Afghanistan
Stoltenberg Outlines NATO’s Future Support to Afghanistan
[ToloNews] NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Gay Paree on Friday said as the alliance’s military presence is ending in Afghanistan, but added that NATO is opening a new chapter in the country and that its future support "will have three main pillars."

According to a statement by NATO, the two leaders also discussed the fight against terrorism in Iraq, the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
, and Afghanistan.

Stoltenberg said that "first, we plan to provide advice and capacity-building support to Afghan security institutions." This will also include "continued financial support to the Afghan cops," he said.

Second, Stoltenberg said, NATO is "planning to provide military education and training outside Afghanistan, focusing on Special Operations Forces."

And third, he said, they are "planning to fund the provision of services, including support for the functioning of Kabul airport."

He said that all this will enable NATO allies and the broader international community to continue to help the Afghan people and contribute to the peace efforts."

Egypt's humanitarian aid to Gaza reaches Rafah
[AlAhram] Egypt's humanitarian aid, that was sent for the Paleostinian people, reached Rafah early Friday to help the Paleostinians following the Israeli attacks.

Food and medical supplies were included as well as other kinds of humanitarian aid. This comes on behalf of the Egyptian people to the Paleostinian people, said a group of Egyptian Parties in a statement issued about the aid.

The parties participating in the aid are Mostaqbal Watan (Future of the Homeland) party, Guardians of the Nation, People’s Republican and The Egyptian Coordination’s Committee of Parties' Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP).

Headed by 27 MPs and the Leader of the Mostaqbal Watan party MP Ashraf Rashad, the aid includes 80 trucks.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi already announced on Tuesday the allocation of $500 million as part of an Egyptian initiative for the reconstruction of the Gazoo

Egypt has also opened the Rafah crossing to receive injured cases from Gaza and to treat them in North Sinai’s hospitals.

Africa Subsaharan
Nigeria's military investigates reports of Boko Haram leader's death
[REUTERS] Nigeria's military is investigating reports that the leader of turban Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
may have been killed or seriously injured following festivities with rival jihadists, an army front man said on Friday.

Abubakar Shekau
...the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down. Last seen in 2017, sneaking into Cameroon while wearing a burka...
has been the figurehead of an Islamist insurgency that has since 2009 killed more than 30,000 people, forced around 2 million people to flee their homes and spawned one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

A number of reports published on Thursday in Nigeria media, citing intelligence sources, said Shekau was seriously hurt or killed after his Lions of Islam clashed with members of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in West Africa Province (ISWAP), which broke away from his group in 2016.

Rooters has been unable to independently verify the claims.

A Nigerian Army front man, Mohammed Yerima, said the military were investigating.

"It's a rumour. We are investigating it. We can only say something if we confirm it," said the front man.

Shekau was said to have been killed on several occasions over the last 12 years, including in announcements by the military, only to later appear in a video post.

ISWAP was previously part of Shekau's turban Islamist group before its split five years ago, pledging allegiance to Islamic State. The schism was due to religious ideological disagreements over the killing of civilians by Boko Haram, to which ISWAP objected.

Shekau's death, if confirmed, could potentially end of fighting between the two groups, enabling either to absorb the others' fighters and consolidate its hold on northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...

Masked people attack Nawaz Sharif in London
[DAILYTIMES.PK] Unidentified masked people tried to attack former prime minister Nawaz Sharif
...served two three non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf, then by the courts...
in London on Friday, according to social media reports.

People wearing masks people tried to break into Hassan Nawaz’s office where former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was present inside the office. Hassan Nawaz was threatened on the steps of the office. London police started an investigation.

Reports say Abid Sher Ali and Nawaz Sharif’s guards averted the attack and forced the attackers to flee. The police were called to the scene which launched an investigation into the matter.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said in a tweet that Nawaz Sharif was the voice of the people of Pakistain
...not if he wasn’t reelected — that’s the whole point of elections, donchaknow....
and he would not be silenced.

"Nawaz Sharif is competing with the thinking that tried to take pictures of my sick mother, broke down the door of my hotel room and tried to attack Nawaz Sharif again today. May God not give anyone a lowly and cowardly enemy", she said.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif demanded that the London police and relevant officials conduct a full investigation into the incident and called the intrusion into Hassan Nawaz’s office reprehensible.

Iraq
Iran Grows New Loyalist Iraqi Militias
[ENGLISH.AAWSAT] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has hand picked hundreds of trusted fighters from among the cadres of its most powerful militia allies in Iraq, forming smaller, elite and fiercely loyal factions in a shift away from relying on large groups with which it once exerted influence, reported Rooters in an exclusive report.

The new covert groups were trained last year in drone warfare, surveillance and online propaganda and answer directly to officers in Iran’s Quds Force, the arm of its Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) that controls its allied militia abroad.

Gaza's war in numbers
[alAhram] The war between Israel and Paleostinian group Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, has killed hundreds, displaced thousands from their homes and ravaged key infrastructure.

Here is a recap in numbers.

GAZOO
243 Paleostinians including 66 children killed in Israeli air strikes in the besieged coastal enclave since May 10, the health ministry says.

Two doctors were among those killed, including the head of internal medicine at the Shifa hospital, the main one in the Gaza Strip.

More than 1,900 people including 560 children maimed in that same period, according to the same source.

91,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, the UN humanitarian agency says.

1,447 homes -- houses or flats -- hit, according to the Hamas group running the enclave.

205 residential blocks completely destroyed, Hamas says.

75 governmental and public facilities damaged, it says.

14 kilometres of water pipes, 50 water wells, and 17 kilometres of sewage pipes have been affected, Hamas says.

31 electrical substations and 79 kilometres of cables affected, nine main lines cut off, it estimates.

454 cars or means of transport destroyed or badly damaged, according to the same source.

Three mosques completely destroyed, 40 mosques and one church damaged, according to Hamas.

ISRAEL
12 killed in Israel, including one Israeli child, one Arab Israeli teenager and her father, one Indian, and two Thai nationals, Israeli medics say.

357 people have been maimed by rockets.

Of 4,070 rockets fired by Paleostinian gangs towards Israel, around 90 percent were intercepted by Israel's air defence system, the military says.

2,061 claims received for homes hit by rockets and 1,367 more for cars in southern and central Israel, according to the Israel Tax Authority, which deals with compensations.

WEST BANK
25 Paleostinians killed by Israeli forces since the outbreak of hostilities in the occupied territory, Paleostinian health authorities say.

The Israeli army says at least five of them had attempted to ram or stab Israeli forces at checkpoints.
The Times of Israel adds:
The Israel Defense Forces says it destroyed more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) of defensive tunnels in the Gaza Strip during the past 11 days of fighting and killed some 225 Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad members, including 25 senior commanders.

In a quantitative review of the campaign, dubbed Operation Guardian of the Walls, the military says it also destroyed hundreds of rocket launchers and related infrastructure and struck a “serious blow” to Hamas and the Islamic Jihad’s rocket production capabilities.

According to the IDF, the military also destroyed dozens of facilities used by Hamas’s military wing, nine of them high-rise towers, including one used by the Associated Press, Al-Jazeera and other international media outlets, as well as a number of buildings used by the terror group in its day-to-day governing of the Gaza Strip.

This included 10 government offices, 11 interior ministry branches and five banks, “which managed terrorist money,” the IDF says.

On the defensive side, the military says it thwarted a number of attempted raids, destroyed dozens of anti-tank guided missile teams, and intercepted seven drone attacks and two naval attacks.

The IDF says the Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted some 90 percent of the incoming rockets that it was meant to.
Update from the Times of Israel at 12:30 p.m. ET
Roughly 4,360 rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israel during the operation, about 3,400 of which crossed into Israel.

Pakistan played leading role to end Israeli atrocities against Palestinians: Fawad
Yes, you did, you clever, clever boy! Here, have two teething biscuits as a reward, one for each hand!
[DAILYTIMES.PK] Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Friday said Pakistain played a leading role in efforts to end Israeli atrocities against innocent and unarmed people of Paleostine, who had braved unabated bombardment and shelling from occupation forces for over two weeks.

Interacting with foreign media here on the occasion of Paleostine Solidarity Day observed across the country on the call of Prime Minister Imran Khan

#3  It’s not peace, jpal — it’s only a hudna until the tunnels are rebuilt and Iran can restock the rocket stashes.

Egypt has been sounding pretty bloodthirsty, too, which makes me wonder how hard they’ve actually been working to embargo the smugglers despite making a big deal about closing down the tunnels on their part of the Gaza border.

Israeli military video shows scope of airstrikes against Hamas tunnels
[NYPOST] Israel has so far destroyed more than 62 miles of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, tunnels, including 7.5 miles targeted in its latest aerial assault — and a new military video shows the effects of the operation on the so-called "Metro" complex.

"The Hamas terror organization invested the majority of its finances and efforts over the last decade in digging out a complex tunnel system across the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. Strip," the Israel Defense Forces says in the clip.

"The terror Metro began with individual shafts dug deep underground, used as hiding places for Hamas terror operatives after launching rockets," the IDF statement continues.

"The system enabled military training, mobility, the capacity to carry out and manage military operations without exposing themselves, storage for weaponry, and more," it adds.

The video also shows the various rounds of air force strikes against the tunnels during Operation Guardian of the Walls.

"The massive system of tunnels under Gaza represents one of Hamas’s most strategic projects, created over the course of years and dug under the people of Gaza near homes, schools and mosques," IDF reserves Capt. Libby Weiss told The Post in a message.

"Hamas relied on this system to transport and store arms and equipment, and move about within the Gaza Strip as well as to carry out rocket attacks," Weiss continued.

"As a result of IDF activity, more than 62 miles of this network have been destroyed — that’s the equivalent of almost a quarter of the NYC subway system," the spokeswoman said. "Rather than investing in the economic development of the Gaza Strip, Hamas sunk tens of millions of dollars in this system."

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, another IDF spokesperson, said the military was focused on destroying the tunnels where the turbans hide, move between locations and resupply launchers with rockets to fire at Israel.

The tunnels run under civilian neighborhoods, and the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s have been trying to target roads above them to minimize damage to buildings, Conricus said.

One weekend airstrike that the IDF said targeted a tunnel caused several buildings to collapse and killed 42 people in the deadliest single attack of the conflict.

The attacks on the tunnels continue, "and the assessment is that that effort will be expanded to areas that we so far have not conducted this effort in, and that is to be expected over the coming days," Conricus said.

Hamas leaders have described the tunnels as an "innovation," but insisted they are mostly defensive, the Washington Post reported.

The IDF has taken journalists on tours of tunnels it has captured, showing them to be sophisticated structures with concrete walls, electricity and carts, according to the newspaper.

Tunnels first appeared in the enclave in response to an Israeli blockade imposed after Hamas took power. At first, they were used to smuggle goods but were soon used for other purposes.

In 2006, Hamas used a tunnel to capture Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was held captive for five years before being released in 2011 as part of a prisoner exchange deal, the outlet reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invoked fears that the tunnels would also be used to kidnap Israeli civilians.

Gerard De Groot, a professor of history at the University of St. Andrews, once described tunnels as being able to "evoke a peculiar horror — as though the devil himself were emerging from hell to spread torment on Earth," the Washington Post reported.

Protests continue against Turkish-backed government in Syria's Sere Kaniye
[NPASYRIA] On Friday, hundreds of settlers in the Ottoman Turkish-occupied Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) demonstrated for the third time in three days, denouncing the living and service conditions there.

Sere Kaniye has been under the control of Ottoman Turkish forces and their affiliated gangs since late 2019, when the groups attacked the region and caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of native residents, which were then replaced by fighters from the Ottoman Turkish-backed groups and their families and supporters.

The settlers called for an improvement in the living conditions and services, amid an absence of job opportunities, widespread unemployment, and infighting among the gangs over stolen loot which occasionally escalates to armed festivities.

The demonstrators raised banners accusing the local Ottoman Turkish-backed councils of corruption and calling on them to resign. Despite today’s protest being the third demonstration of its kind in ten days, they have received no response to their demands.

On May 6, doctors and staff at Medina Hospital in Sere Kaniye went on strike after not receiving their salaries for months, and accused the Ottoman Turkish-backed groups of stealing their financial allocations.

In mid-April the city witnessed another protest in front of the local council against the backdrop of deteriorating economic and living conditions.
