Supreme Political Council of Yemen lays out clear demands for peace negotiations
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The Supreme Political Council in Sana’a has on Monday warned of the dangers of the continuation of the “state of no peace and no war,” which the Saudi-led coalition aims to keep the Republic of Yemen in.

The Council, in its meeting chaired by President Mahdi Al-Mashat, confirmed that “Yemen will take the necessary measures when the time is right in order to prevent the coalition’s plan to trap Yemen in this trap.”

In the meeting, focus was laid on the existing contacts between Yemen and the coalition regarding talks related to the end of the war and lifting of the blockade.

The Council’s members reaffirmed Yemen’s firm stance towards an honourable peace that protects the sovereignty and independence of Yemen and preserves its unity, welcoming all serious steps in this context.

They pointed out that “keenness to achieve peace in Yemen should be embodied by responding to the rights of citizens, foremost of which is the payment of salaries to all state employees and the opening of all Yemeni airports and ports.”

The Council stressed the need to separate the humanitarian file from the political and military one, and said that “progress in this file is an indicator of credibility in the success of any mediations, contacts or talks.”

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Colleagues of Hajiyev speak about the attempts of the security forces to disrupt pickets
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Police officers tried to cover the posters from passers-by and distracted the picketers, said Novoye Delo journalist Idris Yusupov. The attention of the security forces to the pickets in support of Gadzhiev is caused by the desire of the authorities to stop these actions, Magdi Kamalov, the founder of Chernovik, suggested.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that colleagues of the editor of the "Chernovik" newspaper Abdulmumin Gadzhiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold actions in the center of Makhachkala in support of him. Today, Dagestan journalists demanded that the criminal prosecution of Chernovik editor Abdulmumin Gadzhiev and historian Khadzhimurad Donoy be stopped.

Gadzhiev's colleagues usually hold pickets in his support at the intersection of Dakhadaev Street and Gamzatov Avenue, not far from the buildings of the republican Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB.

Magomed Magomedov, Magdi Kamalov and Idris Yusupov, deputy editor-in-chief of Chernovik, regularly take part in single-person pickets. Weekly pickets of Hajiyev's colleagues  attract less and less attention of passers-by, this is due to the fact that the inhabitants of the republic are more forced to think about their own material and domestic difficulties, said Magdi Kamalov.

A large number of law enforcers were present at the site of single pickets in Makhachkala today, in addition to journalists from regional media, relatives of Abdulmumin Hajiyev, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported from the scene.

The editorial board of "Chernovik" remains in its position and considers the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Hajiyev illegal, and the journalist himself innocent, Magdi Kamalov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent . The founder of "Chernovik" called the desire of law enforcement agencies and the leadership of the republic to stop weekly pickets in support of the journalist as a possible reason for today's heightened attention from law enforcement officials.

"The security forces, at the suggestion of the regional authorities, will use legal and not quite legal methods to stop the weekly picket in support of our colleague Abdulmumin Hajiyev and other single actions," Kamalov suggested.

The initiator of a single picket in support of the Dagestan historian Khadzhimurad Donogo, a specialist in the period of the "Caucasian War," journalist Idris Yusupov said that the security forces were trying to disrupt today's single pickets.

"The police officers actually prevented the holding of single pickets. Standing right in front of the posters, they blocked them. They also distracted them from holding pickets. They very insistently demanded that they go with them to the police department to draw up explanations," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Among the possible reasons for the attention of the security forces to the action, Yusupov called the support of Khadzhimurad Donogo.

Hadji-Murad Donogo is a Caucasian scholar, doctor of historical sciences, former deputy director of the National Museum of Dagestan, professor, author of many dozens of books and monographs, including about the Caucasian War and Imam Shamil.

On December 2, Donogo stated that on November 30, the security forces searched his house and seized books, flash drives, a telephone and a computer with valuable historical materials. After the search, the security forces were interested in his participation in scientific conferences in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey and asked questions about his contacts there, Donogo told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 3. The search could have been carried out by the security forces after the denunciation because of his publications, the scientist suggested.

Yusupov said that in addition to two police officers and a district police officer, four police officers in civilian clothes approached him. "After the end of the single pickets, instead of taking explanations and releasing people, they very persistently tried to deliver everyone to the department (the police - note of the "Caucasian Knot"), under various pretexts," Yusupov said. However, after a long conversation with law enforcement officers, everyone dispersed, taking written explanations from Anna Bokler on the spot. The security forces took written explanations from Kamalov and Yusupov during solitary actions, the journalist added.

The initiator of the third solo picket, journalist Anna Bokler, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in 2021 she also went to a similar action with the same demands.

According to her, the demand for "Freedom of Journalism" concerns both individual journalists and the journalistic profession as a whole. The activist mentioned that the holding by Hajiyev's colleagues of single actions in support of him for three years is an important and rare event. However, the persecution of Abdulmumin Hajiyev and the developments around his criminal case do not often go beyond the regional news agenda, she said. Bockler stressed that the demand for "freedom of journalism" against the backdrop of the "collapsing" profession of a journalist is of particular relevance.

Passers-by and car drivers expressed their support for the initiators of the single actions, despite the fact that the security forces who came to the place where the single pickets were held tried to cover up the posters, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

Recall that Abdulmumin Hajiyev, as well as the head of the Ansar charity fund Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, were accused of financing terrorism. Investigators believe that they collected 68 million rubles and 200 thousand dollars for the terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. The investigation connects the defendants with Israil Akhmednabiev, a Dagestan preacher and founder of the Mukhadzhirun Islamic Foundation,
... Mukhadzhirun apparently means ‘Living Heart’, for what that’s worth. Apparently the foundation and Mr. Akhmednabiev have been connected to fundraising for ISIS...
known as Abu Umar Sasitlinsky, who has been put on the wanted list in a terrorism case. The defendants pleaded not guilty.

Details of Gadzhiev's case can be found in the material of the "Caucasian Knot" "Golunov number two:" the main thing about the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev."

On December 8, the court  finished interrogating the defendants  and agreed to add to the materials the testimony of Abu Umar Sasitlinsky, in which he refuted the version of the investigation about the involvement of Abubakar Rizvanov in the financing of terrorism.

Journalists supported Gadzhiev and Donogo with pickets

[KavkazUzel] Solitary pickets in the center of Makhachkala were held today by Dagestan journalists, demanding that the criminal prosecution of Chernovik editor Abdulmumin Gadzhiev and historian Khadzhimurad Donoy be stopped.

The second single picket was held by Idris Yusupov. He spoke in support of Khadzhimurad Donoi, calling for an end to the persecution of the historian.

Another one-man picket demanding "freedom of journalism" was held by a Moscow activist. All three pickets were held under the supervision of security forces. They approached each of the picketers to verify their identities and also demanded written explanations.

Later, other law enforcement officers in uniform and civilian clothes approached the place where the pickets were being held and talked to each of the picketers.

Recall that Abdulmumin Hajiyev, as well as the head of the Ansar charity fund Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev, were accused of financing terrorism. [REGNUM] Russian low-cost airline returns to Turkey. Erdogan scares the Greeks, but they are not afraid. Turkish press reports from December 12-18, 2022.

According to the Cumhuriyet newspaper , Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, who took part in political consultations between Russian-Turkish delegations in Istanbul, made press statements on the Syrian issue. He noted that he supports the normalization of the situation in Syria, and stressed that he considers it necessary to restore the territorial integrity of this country.

Vershinin recalled that Moscow is in favor of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus. The Russian diplomat said that during the talks in Istanbul, the situation in Afghanistan, Libya, Palestine and the Middle East was discussed, and discussions are ongoing on all these issues. Russia also informed Turkey in as much detail as possible about the "situation on the ground" during the special military operation in Ukraine. Vershinin, recalling that the last round of negotiations between the delegations of Moscow and Kyiv took place in Istanbul, said that Istanbul is a suitable platform for this.

TURKEY'S UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE BECOMES THE LARGEST IN EUROPE
According to Aktif Haber , Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made statements regarding the expansion of underground gas storage facilities in Istanbul's Silivri district. “The Silivri facility has become the largest underground gas storage facility in Europe. Today, Turkey is the country with the 17th largest gas reserves in the world, with the energy services it offers to its citizens and industry,” the Turkish leader said. The storage capacity at Silivri has been increased to 4 billion 600 million cubic meters, making it the largest gas storage facility in Europe. The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that an electronic trading platform would appear in the coming months, and the gas price for Europe could be determined in Turkey.

EU THREATENED TURKEY
The Karar newspaper writes about the statements of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Relations and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, who called on Ankara to change its policy towards Russia and comply with EU sanctions. Brussels thus made it clear that he does not like close relations between Turkey and Russia. The head of European diplomacy demanded that Ankara change its policy towards Moscow and adhere to Western anti-Russian sanctions. Borrell's statement to the European Parliament was published by a newspaper belonging to the German media group Funke Media Group. "Turkey's policy of not participating in EU restrictive measures against Russia is a growing concern," Borrell said in a statement.

FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH THE PASSAGE OF OIL TANKERS THROUGH THE STRAITS
Turkish news channel NTV Haber reported on the solution of the problem with the provision of "insurance guarantees" for tankers transporting oil through the Black Sea straits. The latter were asked to issue letters confirming the validity of the P&I insurance. According to the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs of Turkey, eight out of 24 tankers with oil, which since December 1 wanted to cross the Bosporus and Dardanelles from the Black Sea, provided such letters, after which they were able to continue moving.

VOLODIN MET WITH ERDOGAN IN ANKARA
According to the newspaper Sözcü , Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin, who is in Ankara, met with President Erdogan. The details of the meeting were not disclosed. Later, he met with the chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Mustafa Sentop. Expressing the importance for Russia and Turkey of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and observance of national interests, Volodin announced plans to host the second conference on combating terrorism and cooperation, which had previously been held in Turkey. The event is scheduled to take place in the first half of next year. Volodin also visited Anitkabir for the first time, the mausoleum of the founder and first president of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

THE SCANDALOUS DECISION OF THE AMERICANS
According to the portal Sondakika.com, while the Turkish armed forces promise to conduct a ground operation in Syria, Washington made a scandalous decision. It is alleged that the United States sent two military convoys with radar systems and weapons to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the backbone of which is the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) recognized in Turkey as a terrorist and the People's Self-Defense Forces (YPG). The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement that the convoy, divided into two convoys of 40 and 90 vehicles, contains radar systems and weapons for air defense systems. In addition, US Department of Defense spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder announced that the US military,

MITSOTAKIS: "IT'S ERDOGAN WHO DOESN'T WANT TO MEET WITH ME"
According to a report by Aktif Haber , Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a "signal" to Turkey in an interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Mitsotakis commented on Erdogan's words to Greece that "we can suddenly swoop in one night." He called them a threat. “Threats like this need to be taken very seriously. I made it clear that I always keep the door open for dialogue. It was Erdogan who said he didn’t want to meet with me,” Mitsotakis said. The Greek prime minister also commented on the situation in the Aegean Sea. “Erdogan questions the sovereignty of the Greek islands. If Turkey wants to put everything on the table and negotiate on issues that were resolved 100 years ago, I'm sorry, I do not intend to conduct a dialogue on these issues," Mitsotakis stressed.

ERDOGAN SPOKE ABOUT THE OPERATION IN SYRIA
The newspaper Sözcü writes about the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Samsun. At this event, he raised the issue of the operation in Syria. “The United States is moving weapons and ammunition to northern Syria in 4,000 to 5,000 trucks. I told them many times that this is unacceptable for us. But they don't care. Then we ourselves will get rid of the umbilical cord,” he said. The Turkish President also raised the issue of the Greek islands in the Aegean in his speech. “Now we have started to produce our own rockets. This, of course, scares the Greeks. They know about our Tayfun rockets, and every time they hear about them, the Greek winces. They say that we will release them in Athens. What should we do if you don't calm down? Erdogan threatened.

RUSSIA'S NEW STATEMENT ON GAS CENTER IN TURKEY
Internet edition T24reported on the statement of Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko regarding the creation of a gas center in Turkey and the start of negotiations between Ankara and Moscow on this issue. Grushko noted that the gas hub is an absolutely open idea. “We hope that it will be implemented. And, by the way, this will be in the interests of everyone, both gas producers - producing countries, and consumers.

Again, if there is a rational behavior of those who are really interested in gas,” Grushko said. He recalled that the United States and Western countries are talking about the so-called green transition, but "it is obvious to everyone that this transition cannot be carried out at the same speed and in such volumes as it was intended by the "dreamers" of a carbon-free world." All rationally thinking economists understand that that gas as the cleanest carbon fuel for many years, even though it may be transitional, will remain the main source of energy.

“Therefore, we need to think about the things that we have been doing for many years: these are the stability of supplies, the stability of demand, the stability of transit, the stability of the legal climate in which transactions are felt, and the predictability of energy strategies,” Grushko concluded.

TURKMEN GAS SUMMIT
According to Samanyolu Haber, a summit was held in Ashgabat with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Turkey, at which the priority issue was the transportation of Turkmen gas to the West. Agreements were signed in the areas of trade, science, education, culture, customs, energy and transport at the ceremony at the Avaza conference center in Ashgabat.

The meeting also discussed the situation in Ukraine, assessed the situation, discussed the prospects for negotiations and a ceasefire. The leaders of the three countries said that the road to peace could be opened if the opportunity was given to diplomacy, as was the case with the grain agreement and the exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Kyiv. The leaders of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan have said that the ongoing conflicts have disrupted the security, food supply and energy pillars of the global system. They emphasized

MAYOR OF ISTANBUL SENTENCED TO PRISON
According to the newspaper Milliyet, a hearing was held in a case in which the mayor of Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, Ekrem Imamoglu, was tried for allegedly insulting members of the Turkish High Electoral Commission. In relation to Imamoglu, up to four years and one month of imprisonment and a ban on political activity were requested. The court decided to sentence Imamoglu to two years, seven months and 15 days in prison.

In addition to the prison term, the court decided to apply article 53 of the Turkish Constitution, which means a ban on political activity for the mayor of Istanbul. With this decision, the authorities are trying to end the political career of Imamoglu, who, as they say, could become a presidential candidate from the Turkish opposition. Lawyers for the mayor intend to appeal the decision of the court in higher instances. Until the final decision, the mayor of Istanbul will be at large and carry out his duties.

ERDOGAN INVITES PUTIN TO HOLD TRILATERAL SUMMIT WITH ASSAD
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed holding a trilateral meeting of the leaders of Russia and Syria in Turkey. According to the newspaper Sözcü , in a conversation with journalists after returning from Turkmenistan, the Turkish leader said that he had proposed to Putin to meet in a trilateral format. Erdogan stressed that prior to such a meeting, preliminary talks should be held between the heads of the special services, ministries of defense and foreign affairs of the three countries.

BRIEF ABOUT IMPORTANT
The Russian low-cost airline resumes flights to Turkey, which it stopped after the imposition of sanctions. It will start flights to Istanbul Airport on December 21, to Antalya on December 23 and to Gazipasa-Alanya Airport on December 24.

The Turkish National Intelligence Agency and the police conducted an operation against 44 "private detectives" who allegedly pursued the Palestinians and reported this to the Israeli intelligence service "Mossad". Among the detainees was the founding president of the Association of Private Detectives of Turkey.

The 92-year-old lawsuit ended with the return of the Sansaryan Khan business center to the Armenian Foundation. The Turkish Constitutional Court canceled the nationalization in 1930 of the Sansaryan-khan business center, transferred by the state to the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, on the basis of “interference with property rights”.

#1  Note P & I insurance above: P&I Insurance is liability insurance for practically all marine liability risks associated with the operation of a vessel...; also referred to as, Protection & Indemnity Insurance.
There is no standard P&I insurance form. Each P&I insurance policy is created with specific terms and conditions for each insured tailored by underwriters based on the nature of the risk and the character and amount of insurance desired by the insured. Additionally note that since P&I insurance policies are essentially a contract of indemnity, the insurer is not obligated to pay unless the insured must actually pay the claim.

Iran says regional summit off Dead Sea coast a good opportunity to revive nuke talks
[IsraelTimes] Jordan set to host ’Baghdad II’ conference, bringing together Iraq, La Belle France and main players in Mideast, including rivals Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
and Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
, in effort to defuse tensions

Iran’s foreign minister said Monday that a summit to take place this week in Jordan is a "good opportunity" for negotiations aimed at restoring the 2015 nuclear accord.

On-off talks to revive the deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), started in April last year between Iran and La Belle France, Germany, Britannia, Russia, and China directly, and the United States indirectly.

But the indirect talks between the US and Iran, mediated by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, have stalled for several months with the Islamic Theocratic Republic facing protests over the death in jug of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian of Kurdish origin.

The Jordan summit "is a good opportunity for us to complete these discussions," Iran’s top diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told news hounds in Tehran.

His comment came a day before Jordan on Tuesday hosts the "Baghdad II" conference, bringing together Iraq, La Belle France, and the main players in the Middle East, including rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia, to defuse regional tensions through dialogue.

Amir-Abdollahian and European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell will be among the officials at the meeting along the Dead Sea.

"I hope that according to the approach of the Americans in the last three months, we will see a change of approach and the American side will behave realistically," Amir-Abdollahian stressed.

"I clearly say to the Americans that they must choose between hypocrisy and the request to reach an agreement and the US return to the JCPOA," he added.

The 2015 agreement gave Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program to guarantee that Tehran could not develop a nuclear weapon — something it has always denied wanting to do.

But the US unilateral withdrawal from the accord in 2018 under then-president Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons......
and the re-imposition of biting economic sanctions prompted Iran to begin rolling back on its own commitments.

Palestinian to be charged with terror over Tel Aviv ramming of motorcyclist
[IsraelTimes] Police, Shin Bet say Ali Hamad confessed to December 8 attack, in which he moderately maimed an Israeli man; said he was avenging cousin’s death

Police prosecutors on Monday said they plan to file terror charges against a Paleostinian man who rammed a vehicle into a motorcyclist in Tel Aviv earlier this month, after an investigation found the motive for the incident was nationalistic.

Police and the Shin Bet security agency said in a joint statement that Ali Hamad, 31, who had entered Israel illegally, confessed to the attack on December 8, saying he had committed it as Dire Revenge after his cousin was killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops in the West Bank a day before the attack.

Hamad’s cousin, Mojahed al-Najjar, shot up an Israeli military post near the settlement of Ofra before being chased and rubbed out by troops.

Hamad committed the attack with a car that had been taken off the road by police order due to damage from a crash, and was then illegally put back in use. According to the Kan public broadcaster, he managed to drive into Israel from the West Bank with the unauthorized car, which had Israeli license plates.

Police said prosecutors would file an indictment against Hamad in the next few days.

Hamad was arrested shortly after the incident, and police initially described it as a traffic accident. But several days later, the Shin Bet said it suspected the ramming was intentional.

The Israeli man on the cycle of violence, Gilad Tanami, was moderately hurt, according to medical officials.

Last week, from his hospital bed, Tanami told the Kan public broadcaster he "knew it was a terror attack."

"I looked up and saw a car accelerating in my direction," he told the network, describing how he was thrown up into the air.

"He continued driving with my cycle of violence under the vehicle for about 40 meters and then got stuck on a pole," he added.

Iran said Saturday that its uranium enrichment capacity has increased to record levels, a day before UN nuclear monitors are set to visit the country.

"Currently, the enrichment capacity of the country has reached more than twice the entire history of this industry," Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.

"Nuclear energy and atomic power production have great economic savings for the country and are effective in reducing fossil and non-renewable fuel consumption and environmental problems," he added.

The ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency said last month that according to its assessment, as of October 22, Iran has an estimated 62.3 kilograms (137.3 pounds) of uranium enriched to up to 60% fissile purity. That amounts to an increase of 6.7 kilograms since the IAEA’s last report in September.

That enrichment to 60% purity is one short, technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90%. Nonproliferation experts have warned in recent months that Iran now has enough 60%-enriched uranium to reprocess into fuel for at least one nuclear bomb.

The IAEA report, which was seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, also estimated that as of October 22, Iran’s stockpile of all enriched uranium was at 3673.7 kilograms — a decrease of 267.2 kilograms since the last quarterly report in September.

The Vienna-based IAEA said it was unable to verify the exact size of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium due to limitations that Tehran imposed on UN inspectors last year and the removal of the agency’s monitoring and surveillance equipment in June at sites in Iran.

The IAEA said Wednesday that a technical team will visit Iran on Sunday to try to resolve a deadlock over the detection of traces of radioactive material at sites not declared as having hosted nuclear activities.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi is not expected to be part of the delegation.

The UN nuclear watchdog has long called on Iran to explain the presence of man-made uranium found at three undeclared sites, requesting "access to locations and materials" as well as the collection of samples.

Eslami said on December 9 that the material detected at the three sites had been brought into Iran from abroad.

The issue has seriously hindered efforts to revive a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and major powers, which has hung by a thread since the United States unilaterally withdrew in 2018 under then-president Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
An IAEA delegation had initially planned to travel to Tehran last month, but the visit was postponed as the agency’s board of governors censured Iran for failing to provide "technically credible" answers.

Under the 2015 deal, Iran agreed to restrict its enrichment of uranium to just under four percent, well below the 90 percent level considered necessary for a nuclear warhead.

In return for that and other curbs on its nuclear activities, Iran was promised relief from international sanctions.
