Taliban’s Brutality Unveiled: Farmer Slain in Kabul for Refusing to Pay Tithe
[8am] Local sources in Kabul have reported that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
have slain a farmer in the Char Asyab district due to his failure to pay the tithe, and they injured his brother in the process.

According to sources on Tuesday, June 27th, the farmer was identified as Ajmal.

The incident occurred last night, and in response, local residents of the Kabul-Pashtun-infested Logar highway blocked the road for two hours in protest.

Video footage obtained by Hasht-e Subh depicts the outraged locals demonstrating at the scene.

Sources further indicate that the Taliban executed Ajmal despite his prior compliance with paying the tithe.

The Taliban have not issued any official statements regarding the murder of this farmer.

It is worth noting that since assuming power, the Taliban have been collecting tithes from farmers in various regions of the country.

Tithing refers to a form of religious tax collected by the Taliban without undergoing any formal scrutiny. Considering themselves as the founders of an Islamic government, the Taliban perceive one-tenth of individuals’ income as their rightful share.

Daily Evacuation Brief June 28, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • UN RENEWS CALL FOR A NATIONAL DIALOGUE IN AFGHANISTAN – Markus Potzel, the Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan, made the call in an interview with TOLO News and urged leaders within the Taliban to fulfill pledges made to the international community. He said that the formation of an inclusive government was a paramount precondition for any possibility of international recognition.

  • CITIZENS DEMAND THAT TALIBAN SECURITY FORCES PERSONNEL WEAR UNIFORMS WHEN ON DUTY – Residents in Paktia Province called on the Taliban leadership to force its personnel to wear uniforms when they are performing official duties. Similar calls have been made in other Provinces over the course of the last year as citizens have found themselves targeted by men who claim they are Taliban security personnel and who demand bribes under threat of arrest. Sources in Kabul have long been worried that low-level ‘entrepreneurs’ among the ranks had turned to these money-making schemes to exploit the situation. Other criminal groups have been accused of setting up fake ‘roadblocks’ and accosting travelers and truck drivers to take bribes. The Taliban made a lot of noise over the purchase and distribution of uniforms for both military and police units but it is not currently known if the clothing has been disseminated across the entirety of the security establishment.

  • EUROPEAN INTELLIGENCE REPORT FOUND EVIDENCE THAT IRAN WAS LOOKING FOR WMD TECHNOLOGY IN 2022 – A combined effort among European intelligence agencies resulted in a report that found evidence of a concerted effort on the part of Iran to procure technical expertise and/or equipment for both chemical and nuclear weapons. Dutch intelligence released a redacted version of their findings and claimed to have blocked both Russian and Iranian attempts to access information about nuclear technology in the Netherlands. Swedish, German, and Norwegian intelligence agencies provided additional cases where they had interdicted Iranian efforts to procure both nuclear and chemical weapons knowledge.

  • PAKISTAN’S PURGE OF THE MILITARY CONTINUED – To date, 3 senior military officers have been sacked and administrative action had been taken against 15 other officers (3 major generals and 7 brigadier generals among them) for their perceived roles in the 9 May riots or, for failing to respond to protect soldiers and facilities from the rioters.

NEXT 24 HOURS
EASTERN PROVINCES LIKELY TO RECEIVE MORE RAIN, FLOODING WILL CONTINUE – A new storm system is expected to sweep in from Pakistan along the Eastern border and is expected to bring more rain to the Eastern Provinces. Flooding has killed at least 5 people and injured others in these Provinces from the last system. Pakistan’s Sindh Province is expecting to see significant flooding as well. These storms are precursors to the monsoon season and historically have not posed as significant a threat as they have in 2022 and 2023. At-risk Afghans are advised to avoid travel during the next two to three days.

Over 1,000 Afghan Civilians Killed Since Taliban Took Power, UN Reports
[AlAhram] Shafaq News/ The United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan revealed on Tuesday that more than 1,000 Afghan civilians had been killed in bombings and other acts of violence since the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
assumed control of the country and foreign forces withdrew in 2021.

According to the mission's report covering the period from August 15, 2021, to May 2023, 1,095 civilians bit the dust, and 2,679 others were maimed during this time. These figures underscore the persisting security challenges in the aftermath of the nearly two-decade-long war.

Approximately 700 deaths were attributed to improvised bombs, including suicide kabooms, occurring in public spaces like mosques, educational institutions, and markets.

Although the level of fighting has significantly decreased since the Taliban took power following the collapse of the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
-backed army, security challenges persist, particularly from the presence of ISIS.

The UN mission highlighted that the krazed killer organization is responsible for most attacks and noted that despite a decrease in overall violent mostly peaceful incidents, the frequency of bloody suicide kabooms has escalated.

The report stated, "The figures from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan demonstrate not only the harm inflicted on civilians by such attacks but also the rise in deadly suicide attacks since August 15, 2021, with a smaller number of attacks resulting in a higher number of civilian casualties."

The Taliban has claimed to focus on securing the country and has conducted several operations against ISIS cells in recent months.

According to the United Nations Mission, the bombings claimed by ISIS have killed just over 1,700 people.

In response to the UN report, the Taliban-run Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that Afghanistan faced security challenges during the war before their government assumed power, and they emphasized their commitment to ensuring citizen security and taking immediate action to eliminate terrorist safe havens.

UN Security Council extends authorization for African Union mission in Somalia
[AFRICANEWS] The Security Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution to extend the authorization for the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) for six months, till Dec. 31, 2023.

In April 2022, the Security Council approved the replacement of Amisom (African Union Mission in Somalia), created in 2007, by Atmis (African Transitional Mission in Somalia), also led by the AU but with a reinforced mandate to combat the Shabaab Islamists, until the end of 2024.

On that date, the Atmis contingent, which until then comprised over 19,000 soldiers and coppers, will have to be reduced to zero, gradually transferring its activities to Somali forces.

Under previous Security Council resolutions, Atmis began withdrawing 2,000 soldiers a few days ago, to be completed by the end of June.

This withdrawal is "almost complete", said Deputy Somali Ambassador Mohammed Rabi Yusuf on Tuesday, assuring that his government would undertake the "necessary preparations in coordination with the African Union for phase two and the withdrawal of 3,000 Atmis troops by September".

The resolution adopted unanimously on Tuesday, which authorizes the mission until December 31, 2023, provides for the withdrawal of a further 3,000 personnel by the end of September. The new ceiling will be 14,626 troops from October 1 to December 31.

The Council also says it is "ready to review these figures" in the light of the results of a technical assessment to be provided by Somalia and the AU by September 15, in particular to "evaluate" the first phase of the drawdown and provide "a clear plan and timetable" for the remainder.

The resolution, noting Somalia's "progress" against the Shabaab, nevertheless expresses "great concern" at the "grave threat to peace" that the group, affiliated to al-Qaeda, continues to pose.

"We must not rush to withdraw the African mission," pleaded Deputy Russian Ambassador Anna Evstigneeva. "Creating a security vacuum is not acceptable", she added.

Deputy Foreign Minister: US, Britain and France are dismayed because we halted their plundering of Yemen
That’s certainly one perspective.
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The Deputy Foreign Minister in the Sana’a government, Hussein al-Ezzi, considered that America, Britannia and La Belle France were disturbed because Sana’a prevented the theft of oil and gas wealth from Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
"Sana’a will allow the export of oil as soon as there is a mechanism that guarantees its revenues for the benefit of our dear people," al-Ezzi said, in a tweet on his Twitter account, in response to a joint statement issued by ambassadors of America, Britannia and La Belle France on Tuesday.

The statement accused Sana’a government of undermining the economy in the country because of the ban on exporting oil.

Al-Ezzi noted that the statement only expresses their personal annoyance at "the cessation of their usual share of theft."

Cocaine market is booming as meth trafficking spreads, U.N. report says
[Shafaq News] Cocaine demand and supply are booming worldwide and methamphetamine trafficking is expanding beyond established markets, including in Afghanistan where the drug is now being produced, a United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
report said on Sunday.

Coca bush cultivation and total cocaine production were at record highs in 2021, the most recent year for which data is available, and the global number of cocaine users, estimated at 22 million that same year, is growing steadily, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said in its annual World Drug Report.

Cocaine seizures have, however, grown faster than production, containing the total supply to some extent, the report said. The upper band of the estimated total supply was higher in the mid-2000s than now.

"The world is currently experiencing a prolonged surge in both supply and demand of cocaine, which is now being felt across the globe and is likely to spur the development of new markets beyond the traditional confines," the UNODC report said.

"Although the global cocaine market continues to be concentrated in the Americas and in Western and Central Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
(with very high prevalence also in Australia), in relative terms it appears that the fastest growth, albeit building on very low initial levels, is occurring in developing markets found in Africa, Asia and South-Eastern Europe," it said.

While almost 90% of methamphetamine seized worldwide was in two regions - East and Southeast Asia and North America - seizure data suggests those markets have stabilised at a high level yet trafficking has increased elsewhere, such as the Middle East and West Africa, the report said.

It added that reports and seizures involving methamphetamine produced in Afghanistan suggested the drug economy was changing in that country, where 80% of the world's illicit opium poppy, which is used to make heroin, is produced.

"Questions remain regarding the linkages between illegal manufacture of heroin and of methamphetamine (in Afghanistan) and whether the two markets will develop in parallel or whether one will substitute the other," it added.

Canada refuses to repatriate female ISIS member from NE Syria
[NPASYRIA] Canada’s government is refusing to repatriate a Quebec mother of six currently being held in northeast Syria, her lawyer says.

Canadian authorities gave the woman the option of sending her child to Canada or retaining him at a camp in northeast Syria. Her lawyer says the government denied her repatriation because she "adheres to extreme ideological beliefs" and could pose a security risk. He says the Canadian government is violating its policy.

In March, four Canadian women and their 10 children were flown to Canada following an agreement with the country’s authorities. According to state broadcaster CBC, three of the women were arrested upon arrival in Canada and later released.

Canada has so far repatriated 21 of its nationals from northeast Syrian camps and prisons. Several Canadian remain in the region, including former male ISIS members. In January, Ottawa had pledged to repatriate 23 Canadians.

Roj and Hawl camps, run by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), house around 57,300 ISIS-linked individuals, including nearly 10,000 foreigners.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestine voices frustration at Russia's decision to open diplomatic office in Jerusalem
[AlAhram] Paleostine late on Monday expressed frustration at Russia's recent decision to open a diplomatic office in Jerusalem.
That would be the Palestinian Authority, the false nose and mustache label for the old PLO. This figleaf allows the world to throw money at it without having to admit to funding those who profess to eagerly desiring to finish what the real Nazis started.
"Such a decision could be taken advantage of by other countries waiting for the opportunity to follow," Paleostinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said during a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Paleostine Gocha Boachidze in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, according to a ministry statement.

The decision came without prior coordination with the Paleostinian side or providing explanation afterward, al-Maliki noted.
That’s because it’s none of their business. They’ve got their own ambassador, who no doubt is awfully tired of their posturing.
On June 16, the Russian embassy and the Israeli foreign ministry announced that Russia will open a branch of its consular section in Jerusalem.

A plot of land located on the corner of King George and Ma'alot Streets in Jerusalem could be used to build the branch, according to a statement by the Israeli ministry.

The Paleostinians want to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, while the Israelis consider the whole of Jerusalem as its eternal capital. Jerusalem is one of the final status issues for Paleostinian-Israeli peace talks, which stopped in 2014.
Not one of the final status issues as far as Israel is concerned, clearly. But the Palestinians have been keen on deceiving themselves and others from the beginning.

In first, Israel seizes crypto accounts linked to Iran’s Quds Force, Hezbollah
[IsraelTimes] Defense minister says operation to confiscate digital wallets with millions of dollars came thanks to new tools developed by Israeli security agencies

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday revealed that Israel has seized digital wallets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force and the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group, confiscating millions of dollars in cryptocurrency.

Speaking at a conference hosted by the ministry’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF), Gallant said the operation several days ago was the first of its kind against cryptocurrency assets linked to the IRGC and Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
’s Hezbollah terror group. Israel in the past has seized dozens of digital wallets linked to the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group.

"A few days ago, an extensive and precedent-setting operation — to expose a route for financing terror with digital currencies — was wrapped up. This is the first incident of this magnitude, in which an infrastructure led by Hezbollah and the Iranian Quds Force that transferred millions of dollars to be used by terror elements was thwarted," Gallant said.

He added that since the beginning of the year, members of Hezbollah, the IRGC’s Quds Force, and "Syrian elements" have used cryptocurrency to fund their daily activities. The funding comes from a third party, and is handed over to the terror groups via money exchangers, Gallant said.

"Whoever finances terror, or maintains a financial relationship with terror operatives, must know that he is a target, just like anyone who directs terrorism," he warned, noting Iran’s involvement.

"As you can see, this time too there is a clear line behind the terror [financing] moves that originate in Iran. Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
is the financier, trainer, and spreader of terrorism against Israel and many countries around the world, both directly and through its proxies at the borders," Gallant said.

He said NBCTF had developed new tools with the Mossad spy agency, the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate, the Israel Police, and other bodies, in order to combat financing of terror groups using cryptocurrency.

"I issued an order that allowed the seizure of the funds, their confiscation, and the transfer of the money to the treasury of the State of Israel. In doing so, we have actually cut off the flow of terror funds along this route," Gallant said.

In May it was reported that Israel seized 189 cryptocurrency accounts on the Binance exchange site linked to Paleostinian and Islamist terror groups since 2021.

Cryptocurrencies ostensibly provide a high level of anonymity, making them particularly attractive for financing criminal activity or terrorism. Bitcoin has also faced criticism over the use of the currency on underground websites where people buy drugs and guns.

IDF says it has identified Palestinian behind West Bank rocket launch attempt
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] The military says it knows the identity of a Paleostinian behind an attempt to fire rockets on Israel from the Jenin area in the northern West Bank.

Yesterday, a video was published by a group calling itself the al-Ayyash Battalion, showing two crude rockets being launched. Last month, the same group published a similar clip.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the homemade projectiles did not contain an explosive payload, and they landed within Paleostinian-controlled territory, causing no damage.

Sources in the IDF tell news hounds that the attempt yesterday was largely to garner media attention and present an ostensible new threat against Israel.

The IDF sources say there is a known suspect behind the attempt, and it is not linked to any known terror group.

More here.
