Reagan's longtime secretary of state George P. Shultz dies
WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Secretary of State George P. Shultz, a titan of American academia, business and diplomacy who spent most of the 1980s trying to improve Cold War relations with the Soviet Union and forging a course for peace in the Middle East, has died. He was 100.

Shultz died Saturday at his home on the campus of Stanford University, where he was a distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution, a think tank, and professor emeritus at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

The Hoover Institution announced Shultz’s death on Sunday. A cause of death was not provided.

A lifelong Republican, Shultz held three major Cabinet positions in GOP administrations during a lengthy career of public service.

He was labor secretary, treasury secretary and director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Richard M. Nixon before spending more than six years as President Ronald Reagan’s secretary of state.

Shultz was the longest serving secretary of state since World War II and had been the oldest surviving former Cabinet member of any administration.

Condoleezza Rice, also a former secretary of state and current director of the Hoover Institution, said in a statement that Shultz "will be remembered in history as a man who made the world a better place."

Kroger will pay employees $100 after getting the COVID-19 vaccine
[The Raw Story] Kroger is paying its employees to stay healthy after working on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grocery store will give a $100 one-time payment to employees who get vaccinated, Kroger announced Friday, joining other chains like Aldi and Trader Joe’s.

"We know that the most effective defense against this pandemic comes in the form of the COVID-19 vaccine and the continuation of the rigorous safety precautions we’ve established across our stores, manufacturing facilities and supply chain," Dr. Marc Watkins, Kroger’s chief medical officer, said in a statement.

"We are strongly encouraging all customers and associates to receive the vaccine to curb the spread of COVID-19, and we’ll do all we can to ensure they have access as soon as it’s available."

The company also said it would spend an additional $50 million to thank and reward its associates, including a $100 store credit and 1,000 fuel points to its hourly front line grocery, supply chain, manufacturing, pharmacy and call center associates.

The lump sum bonus comes just days after Kroger said it would close two stores in Long Beach, California, to avoid a local ordinance that would require them to pay certain grocery employees extra for working during the pandemic.

Britain
UK academics investigated over China-linked research: Report
[Aljazeera] The Times newspaper says the British government suspects group may have unwittingly helped China build weapons of mass destruction.

Nearly 200 British academics at more than 12 universities in the United Kingdom are being investigated on suspicion of unwittingly helping the Chinese government build weapons of mass destruction, The Times newspaper reported on Monday.

The scholars are suspected of unknowingly breaching export laws designed to prevent intellectual property in highly sensitive subjects from being handed to hostile states, the newspaper said, citing an unnamed source.

The Times said that the government was preparing to send enforcement notices to the academics who are suspected of transferring research in advanced military technology such as aircraft, missile designs and cyberweapons to China.

The individuals could face a maximum of 10 years in prison if found in breach of the Export Control Order 2008.

Security services are concerned that the research could help Beijing develop weapons of mass destruction and be used in the repression of political dissidents and minorities including the Uighurs.

2 riot kops charged with murder in Dagestan
[REGNUM] The riot policemen suspected of murder by prior conspiracy emptied two clips of Yarygin's service pistols against their victim, the ex-head of the Novokuli village of the Novolaksky district. This was reported by the Baza Telegram channel.

We will remind, in Makhachkala on the evening of February 6, there was a murder. The former head of the village of Novokuli, 34-year-old Abakar Kaplanov, was shot dead right in the office of the head of the criminal investigation department of the Sovetskiy ROVD of Makhachkala .

Previously, the reason for the murder in the TFR was the personal dislike of the riot police officers - the Kurbanov brothers. The second cousin of the deceased, Ramzan Sultanov, told reporters that a statement was written against the murdered man about the alleged illegal allocation of a land plot. A relative of Kaplanov also confirmed information about more than 30 bullets fired at his brother and said that the suspects were fellow countrymen from the same village.

Cyber
Swedish Populists Call for Poland-Style Guarantee of Free Speech on Social Media
[Breitbart] The populist Sweden Democrats have demanded the government draft legislation to ensure freedom of speech on the internet and fight big tech censorship.

Four members of the party, including its leader Jimmie Åkesson, called on the government to convene with other parties in the Swedish parliament to create a committee to draft legislation to guarantee free speech online.

"Only illegal content should be deleted from social media. Illegal threats, for example, are just as illegal if they occur on the internet or on the street. Suspensions or removal of content with reference to crime should be subject to review by a Swedish court," the party said in a debate article for Dagens Nyheter.

"Legal content must be protected. In the same way that platforms are required to delete illegal content, they should have an obligation to preserve content that remains within the framework of the law and not discriminate content based on subjective values," the party added.

The authors went on to reject the notion that opponents of big tech censorship can simply build their own platforms, saying: "Old-fashioned labour movements probably did not want to hear ’build your own square’ when they campaigned for workers’ conditions or universal and equal suffrage. Democracy risks being eroded when American companies reject certain individuals’ opinions."

The party also argued that tech companies should not be allowed to introduce algorithms that discriminate against certain political positions. Companies that violate rules of neutrality or delete legal speech should be subjected to government fines.

The letter comes just days after Polish government minister Sebastian Kaleta told Breitbart News that Poland was also looking at enacting laws to hand down multi-million dollar fines against tech companies that deleted legal speech and refused to restore posts or accounts.

Poland’s ally Hungary has also spoken out about tech censorship, and the Hungarian government confirmed last week that it would be introducing similar legislation.

"Digital damage inflicted deliberately out of political or ideological interests can also not occur without repercussions in Hungary anymore!" Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga said.

#3  Re #1: yes, Anti-Globalists, unite!
Poland Hungary Sweden France England Italy Austria Russia
Also Brazil, India, Australia, Japan.

Those countries make up about 1/3 of the world's population.

Even if you persuade only 30-40% of their populations, that's still more than a billion people worldwide. That's significant. Real strength and influence.

#4  https://newdiscourses.com/2021/02/repressive-tolerance-left-good-right-bad-what-could-go-wrong/

In this third part of James Lindsay’s lecture series on Herbert Marcuse’s “Repressive Tolerance,” we see how the essay takes a particularly dark turn. Having set up the framing of the essay in the first part and explaining the condition of the “administered society” in the second, Marcuse now turns to answering the question of what a Repressive Tolerance should look like, including what it must suppress and what it must tolerate, including the sorts of violence and extralegal behaviors it must tolerate. The statement, which we arrive at near the end of this part, is simple, in Marcuse’s own words: “Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right and toleration of movements from the Left.” In this part of the lecture series, Lindsay walks the listener through the darker part of Marcuse’s argument to show how he arrives at this blatantly biased and ridiculous conclusion that has set the stage for the totalitarianism we see today in Wokeness and from Big Tech.

Trump impeachment defense attorney says defense will include video of comments made by Democrats
[Just The News] Attorney Bruce Castor during an interview on Friday with Fox News Channel host Laura Ingraham said that former President Trump's impeachment defense will include video footage of comments made by Democrats.

"And there's an awful lot of tape of cities burning and courthouses being attacked and federal agents being assaulted by rioters in the street cheered on by Democrats throughout the country and many of them in Washington using really the most inflammatory rhetoric that's possible to use," Castor said, remarking that "certainly there would be no suggestion that they did anything to incite any of the actions. Certainly there wasn't any, anyhow."

"Will you have dueling video?" Ingraham asked Castor. "Will you then respond with the Maxine Waters, with a number of other Democrat officials not speaking out against the Antifa and other extremist rallies over last summer?"

"I think you can count on that," Castor responded. "If my eyes look a little red to the viewers it's because I've been looking at a lot of video the last several days...."

Biden foresees ‘extreme competition’ with China, not ‘conflict’
That’s what he says in English for public consumption. What does he say in private in his native tongue?
[IsraelTimes] US President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Candidate for president in 2020. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass....
anticipates the country’s rivalry with China will take the form of "extreme competition" rather than conflict between the two world powers.

Biden says in a CBS interview that he has not spoken with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping since he became president.

"He’s very tough. He doesn’t have — and I don’t mean it as a criticism, just the reality — he doesn’t have a democratic, small D, bone in his body," Biden says.

Defiant Cardboard Attendees Remain Seated at Super WOKE Bowl 55
[Breitbart] Super Bowl 55 kicked off Sunday with recording artist Alicia Keys singing the so-called black national anthem, "Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing," along with a poem.

Hitmaker Alicia Keys was tasked with a virtual performance of the 121-year-old spiritual song that has come to be known alternately as the "black national anthem" after being introduced in 1899 for Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. The poem read in 1899 was set to music in 1900.

Keys sang the song to kick off the season, as well.

Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs took the field during Keys’ performance on the jumbotron, but the teams returned to the locker room immediately afterward.

The league chose the "black national anthem" for both Opening Day for the 2020 season and the Super Bowl as part of a national reckoning over race in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who died in the custody of the Minneapolis police.

The NFL did not post a video of Keys’ performance to its Twitter account, but the league did post its rendition of the national anthem and "America the Beautiful" to its feed.

Also of note, when singers Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church sang the national anthem, both teams remained standing.

#7  I like Patrick Mahomes as a player.
But when Patrick was interviewed by Jim Gray, author of "Talking to GOAT's" on westwoodonesports.com pregame radio show he bemoaned all the "social injustice".
That really pissed me off so I prayed Tom Brady would figuratively kick the arse of this young man during the football game.
And so I cheered every Tampa Bay Buccaneer great play against the Kansas City Chiefs.
And it was a rout!
I want to like the guy, but there is going to need to be some intervention in regards to the truth from the viewpoint of God.
Right now I am fine with the unwoke, generic white Tom Brady.
