I can already visualize the Farmer's insurance guy walking through a devastated area and calmly saying: " And yeah, we covered that...."
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russian authorities said late on Sunday that 41 people died when a Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash-landed at Moscow Sheremetyevo airport.
"There were 78 people on board, including crew members," the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement on its website.
"According to updated information, 37 out of them survived."
Earlier on Sunday, the Sherlocks said 13 people had been killed in the plane crash.
Television footage showed the Sukhoi Superjet-100 making an emergency landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport with much of the rear part of the plane engulfed in flames.
Many passengers then escaped via the plane’s emergency slides that inflated after the hard landing.
Russian news agencies said the plane had been flying from Moscow to the northern Russian city of Murmansk before turning back.
Russian Sherlocks said they had opened an investigation and were looking into whether the pilots had breached air safety rules.

[DAWN] More than 1,000 people have now died of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo ...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material... , authorities said, as aid workers warned that the highly contagious virus combined with insecurity in the restive region was creating a "deeply worrying situation".
The current outbreak is the second deadliest on record, after an epidemic killed more than 11,300 people in West Africa in 2014-2016.
Efforts to roll back the outbreak of the haemorrhagic fever have been hampered by fighting but also by resistance within communities to preventative measures, care facilities and safe burials. "In total, there have been 1,008 deaths (942 confirmed and 66 probable)," the health ministry said in a daily update late on Friday.
The central African country declared a 10th outbreak of Ebola in 40 years last August centred in the city of Beni in North Kivu province before the virus spread into the neighbouring Ituri region.
The World Health Organisation had initially voiced hope it would be able to contain the outbreak, thanks in part to a new vaccine. But in recent weeks senior WHO officials have conceded that insecurity, scarce financial resources and local politicians turning people against health workers had seriously undermined the containment effort.

[Breitbart] The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, has said that the return of ’stop and search’ has helped cut crime dramatically in London.
Speaking of the statistics, Ms Dick said that the murder rate had fallen by a quarter over the past year with a 15 per cent reduction in the number of under 25s being stabbed, in comments reported by The Times.
The Commissioner said that "having officers in an area where there is intelligence is a very important tactic and has absolutely led to a fall in violence. My key metric has always been injury to under-25s, especially on the street, and we have 15 per cent less, 311 less (sic) young people stabbed".
She went on to describe the tactic of stop and search ‐ which is used by police if they have ’reasonable grounds’ to suspect a person is carrying drugs, stolen property, or a weapon ‐ as being "very effective" and said it was "suppressing the violence", the tactic not only taking drugs and knives off the streets but acting as a deterrent to carrying weapons, as well.
(CNN)A Venezuelan military helicopter crashed on Saturday in Hatillo, a municipality near Caracas, killing all seven on board, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense.
Embattled Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro acknowledged the lives lost in the crash in a message posted on Twitter, and sent his condolences to the victims' relatives and friends on Saturday night.

Larkana Commissioner Saleem Raza Khuhro and Deputy Commissioner Noman Siddik, speaking to the media at the local press club said very soon action against quacks, illegal blood banks and laboratories would be initiated.
The intensity of action would be felt throughout the province, the commissioner claimed. The official number of quacks, according to district health managers, was around 270 but other sources put it at around 1,100, he said.
The commissioner apprehended that the number could be much higher, and said: "According to my estimates, it may run into around 4,000 to 5,000."

[DAWN] Chairman Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman has announced that the moon for the month of Ramazan was not sighted on Sunday, and that the holy month will begin from Tuesday.
"No acceptable and Shariah-compliant testimonies of moon sighting were received from any part of Pakistan," said Rehman. "Therefore, it was decided that moon was not sighted today and first Ramazan will be on Tuesday, May 7."
Muslims in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, and much of the Middle East, including Egypt, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, will fast on Monday for the start of the month of Ramadan.
Millions more, however, in India, Pakistan and Iran, will likely be marking the start of the lunar month on Tuesday based on moon sightings there.

It starts shortly before Ramadan, then continues until afterward. I seem to recall there are extra Paradise points for martyrdom during the holy month.
Though of course no true Muslim would fight during the holy month, and therefore non-Muslims are especially forbidden to raise a hand to attack them, even if that “attack” would be judged by an unbiased eye to be self defense.
[BBC] Would you consider preserving the tattoo of a loved one who has died? It's becoming an increasingly common request from people in their final weeks.
If I were to do such a thing, I would be content with professional quality photos, if only because there’d be no chance of mold growth later.

"He loved seeing the ink on people's skin, fell in love with it," says his wife Cheryl, who now runs the tattoo studio with a business partner.
Chris died last October of heart failure, after struggling for years with ulcerative colitis, leaving her and the couple's five sons behind. He was 41.

A dear friend died of the cancer that resulted — as predicted — from ulcerative colitis. Sad as it was, it was a relief from decades of debilitating pain. As is typical of the disease, each of the prescribed medications worked for a while before the effect stopped; eventually the doctor ran out of medications.
