NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman Targets Popular Herbal Supplements
[NBCNEWYORK] An ongoing investigation of popular herbal supplements subjected to DNA testing has found numerous store brand supplements aren't what their labels claim to be, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Tuesday.

Schneiderman's office has sent letters to GNC, Target, Wal-Mart and Walgreen Co. concerning supplements that either couldn't be verified to contain the labeled substance or that contained ingredients not listed on the label. The products include Echinacea, ginseng, St. John's wort, garlic, ginkgo biloba and saw palmetto.

Overall, just 21 percent of the test results from store brand herbal supplements verified DNA from the plants listed on the labels. The retailer with the poorest showing was Wal-Mart. Only 4 percent of the Wal-Mart products tested showed DNA from the plants listed on the labels.

"This investigation makes one thing abundantly clear: The old adage 'buyer beware' may be especially true for consumers of herbal supplements," Schneiderman said.

Wasserman Schultz In Damage Control Mode After Attacking Jewish '€˜Intermarriage'
[Daily Caller] '€œWe have the problem of assimilation. We have the problem of intermarriage,'€ the Democratic National Committee chairwoman said at the Jan. 16 event for a south Florida branch of the Jewish Federation. '€œWe have the problem that too many generations of Jews don'€™t realize the importance of our institutions strengthening our community '€“ particularly with the rise of anti-Semitism and global intolerance, which obviously we saw in horrific technicolor in just the last week in Paris.'€

#2  This has been a matter of concern in the Jewish community since the end of the Second World War and the revelation of the Holocaust. The Conservative and Reform sections of it, anyway -- the Modern Orthodox and Ultra-orthodox have merrily been fruitful and multiplied the entire time, changing the ratios within Judaism, which is of equal concern to the Jewish Federation types.

It's never been about the gentiles as such, but about the Nazis finally winning. And very definitely for internal consumption -- I suspect someone doesn't like the honourable Congresswoman (or Senator -- I can't remember this early in the morning).

Rival rips crown off beauty queen

[OMANTRIBUNE] “And the winner is...” Miss Amazon 2015 in Brazil ended in acrimony and accusations of cheating when a runner-up tore the sash and crown from the winning contestant.
"Gimme dat crown!"
Smiling and holding hands, the two finalists waited for the announcement of the result of the competition on Friday night in the Amazonas state in northern Brazil.
"I'm da fairest of them all!"
"No, you ain't! I am!"

Carolina Toledo had just a moment to celebrate her victory before furious rival Sheislane Hayalla sneaked up from behind and yanked off her crown and sash, according to video of the event posted online.
"Mine! You can't have 'em!"
The rude departure from pageant politesse was greeted with both cheers and screams from the exasperated crowd.
"They don't usually do that, do they, Margaret?"
Video of Hayalla’s reaction went viral on social networks.
"Fritz! Kommst du und lookit dat!"
“In Manaus money is the boss and I’m showing the people of Amazonas that money is not in charge here, she did not deserve it,” said Hayalla in reference to the state’s capital.
"Yeah! The ugly thing! She's wearin'falsies, too!"
The winner of Miss Amazon competes in Miss Brazil in September.

'Dead' man returns to life at own funeral
[Emirates 24/7] A 45-year-old man in the eastern Chinese province of Hubei, who doctors thought had died after falling over while smoking a cigarette, allegedly came back to life and cried at his own funeral.

Guo Liu who went through two packs of cigarettes a day, collapsed three months ago while out with friends.

He was taken to hospital where doctors said he was suffering from severe cerebral haemorrhaging.

Pal Bo Ko, 40, said: “We had been having a few drinks and of course Liu was smoking when he dropped one of the cigarettes on the ground.

“But when he bent down to pick it up he suddenly fell over unconscious.

“At first we thought he was fooling around as he can be a bit of a joker. But then we realised he wasn't breathing and phoned an ambulance.”

He said Guo's chances of survival were less than five per cent.

After three months Guo's wife Qing Mai, 40, got a call from the hospital saying he had died.

They were preparing to bury him when stunned family and friends heard him wheezing and then saw tears in his eyes.

He was rushed back to hospital where stunned staff took him into intensive care.

A hospital spokesman said: “I have never seen anything like this before.

“He will now be kept under constant observation until he recovers fully and we will then be able to assess just how bad the brain damage is.

“It is likely that his speech, memories and mobility will be severely affected though.”

Population Explosion of Pink Sea Slugs attributable to Global Warming
[PRIMENEWS.BD] Rapid rise in population of pink slugs in the waters of Central and Northern Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, is a direct result of global warming, said researchers.

A surge in temperatures of the ocean waters has been witnessed around the world, badly affecting a lot of marine creatures. But not all the marine species are troubled by the warming in water temperatures and one of them is the rare pink sea slug, called Hopkins' Rose nudibranch.

The Hopkins' Rose nudibranch (Okenia rosacea) is commonly found in Southern California, but their population is not consistent in Central California and rare in north of the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
According to Academy of Sciences, large numbers of these sea slugs are present in tide pools from San Luis Obispo to Humboldt counties. The numbers have reached the peak since the strong El Ninos of 1998 and 1983.

The northern coast of California has become a perfect breeding ground for a massive population kaboom for a particular species of rosy red sea snails because of the flooding of warmer water in Northern California.

Appearing very similar to a big pink underwater flower, this creature is actually a sea slug. Southern California usually houses the rosy pink sea snails due to presence of warmer waters.

"While we are thrilled to see this beautiful bloom of normally-rare nudibranchs, we are concerned about the long term consequences of our changing coastal environment", said Dr. Terry Gosliner, Academy Curator of Invertebrate Zoology and Geology, and the lead author of the study.

While some of the slugs are flourishing because of the current climate conditions, warming sea is also posing threat of food scarcity for sea birds and adverse impacts on all marine ecosystems.

Putin funding environmental groups to block U.S. oil and gas production
[JEWISHWORLDREVIEW] Which country has the biggest interest in stopping the expansion of the oil and gas industry in Europe and North America? Answer: the Russian Federation is highly dependent - to the tune of several hundred billion dollars - on the export of these commodities, particularly to Europe.

It is rational for the Russians to spend upward of a few hundred million dollars to influence politicians to stop gas and oil projects in those countries, with the goal of limiting supply, and thus protecting the Russian revenue stream. It has been well documented and well reported over the past year (The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
has published in-depth articles) that Russian interests have used bribes, coercion and disinformation to get European politicians to prohibit or severely restrict gas and oil fracking in Europe.

There have been allegations and suspicions that the Russians were also putting major money into American environmental organizations to assist them in their efforts to stop the expansion of U.S. gas and oil production, but not much hard evidence - until now. Researchers at the Environmental Policy Alliance, however, have just produced a very solid, well-documented report, which shows how tens of millions of dollars from Russian interests apparently flowed from a dark company in Bermuda through opaque environmental bundlers, including the Sea Change Foundation, into major environmental lobbying organizations, including the Sierra Club, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the League of Conservation Voters. There have been a number of press stories during the past week on Russian support of American environmental groups, including a very detailed description of the money flows, by Lachlan Markay of the Washington Free Beacon.

Man charged over killing of Turkish-German heroine
[Hurriyet Daily News] German prosecutors charged an 18-year-old man on Tuesday over the death of a young German-Turkish woman who has become a symbol of civic courage for giving her life trying to protect two teenage girls.

The suspect faces a charge of assault leading to death in the case in which student teacher Tugçe Albayrak, 23, received a blow to the head in a car park outside a McDonald's restaurant on November 15.

Albayrak, who had confronted a group of men for harassing two maidens of tender years, hit the ground and went into a coma in the attack that was captured in a surveillance video later broadcast on national media.

Days later her family switched off her life support system on her 23rd birthday, sparking a wave of sympathy in Germany amid widespread revulsion over the attack.

On Tuesday prosecutors in the western city of Offenbach, where the attack took place, said they had laid charges against the suspect before a juvenile district court in the nearby city of Darmstadt.

In keeping with strict privacy rules in German court cases, they did not release the defendant's name or any other case details.

German newspaper Bild reported on Tuesday that fellow inmates in the detention centre where the suspect is being held had assaulted him this week, breaking his nose.

About 1,000 mourners attended Albayrak's funeral and a mass online petition has called for her to be posthumously awarded the Federal Order of Merit for her bravery.

Missing Belgian trawler found sunk in Channel
[The Peninsula] -The wreck of a Belgian trawler missing for almost a week has been found in the English Channel and navy divers will start to search for bodies, a Dutch official said on Tuesday.

"The wreck was discovered overnight Monday almost in the same place where it disappeared from radar," said Simone Mahn, spokeswoman for the northern Dutch fishing town of Urk, where two of the four fishermen lived.

The trawler was found using sonar, Mahn added.

Dutch navy divers aided by a robot submarine will on Wednesday start searching the wreck for two bodies still missing, Mahn said.

They are a 48-year-old Portuguese man and a 28-year-old Dutch fisherman from Urk, she added.

Belgian trawler "Z85 Morgenster" disappeared from radar last Wednesday while off the English coast near the southeastern town of Hastings.

An extensive international search-and-rescue operation was launched and two bodies, that of a Belgian sailor, 64 and a 45-year-old Dutchman from Urk, were found near the French fishing port of Boulogne-sur-Mer on Thursday.

Lieutenant Alexis Edme, French front man for the Channel and North Sea prefecture said it is believed the Z85 Morgenster sank after its net snagged the bottom of the Channel.

Turkey revokes passport of bitter Erdogan rival Gulen
As the first neo-Ottoman Sultan, Tayyip I further consolidates his rule...
[Ynet] The Turkish government has cancelled the passport of ally-turned-foe Fethullah Gulen, local media reported on Tuesday, the latest salvo in a bitter feud between the US-based Moslem holy man and President Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan and his ruling AK Party accuse Gulen and his supporters of seeking to establish a "parallel state" in Turkey and of orchestrating a corruption investigation in 2013 which briefly threatened to engulf the government.

Gulen, who denies the accusations, stepped up his own criticism of Erdogan, saying he was leading Turkey "toward totalitarianism".
Of course. As would Mr. Gulen, possibly more subtley.

Prisoner snatched from police killed in 'encounter'
[DAWN] GUJAR KHAN: An under-trial prisoner was killed in what the police claimed an encounter on Tuesday. Two police officials were also injured in the incident.

District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum Sarfraz Virk told local mediapersons that Ghulam Bashir alias Bashira was being taken in a prisoner van from the district jail to the civil courts in Pind Dadan Khan for the hearing of different cases registered against him. When the van reached the Moriaal area of Pind Dadan Khan, four gunnies riding a car opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle and forced it to stop.

Two coppers guarding the van were maimed in the firing. The gunnies forced the door of the van opened and took away the prisoner, he said. In the meantime, the cop shoppes of Jhelum Saddar, Jalalpur Sharif, Chotala and Pind Dadan Khan were alerted to chase the criminals. The DPO said the car was later spotted in the hilly area between Chakrai and Mianmda where an encounter took place between the police and the gunnies.

The DPO claimed that Bashira was injured by the firing of the gunnies. He said the gunnies beat feet from the scene leaving the injured prisoner behind. "The police rescued him (Bashira) but he succumbed to the injuries," the DPO said.

He said Bashira was tossed in the slammer

...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, her autopsy report revealed on Tuesday.

The minor's body was recovered from Nazimabad's Jalalabad area within the remits of the Rizviya Police Station, however, it is not yet clear where the rape and murder took place.

Speaking to Dawn, Additional Police Surgeon Dr Rubina Hasan, who conducted the minor's autopsy, said she was subjected to sodomy.

Liaquatabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Noorani said the family members of the victim claim that her body was found in a street outside her home. The police later recovered the body from her residence.

Further investigation into the matter is under way, with authorities on the hunt to nab the perpetrator.

Last year in November, a six-year-old girl was strangled and dumped near a garbage heap in Quetta after being subjected to rape attempts.
