[Breitbart] On Thursday morning, police say 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer shot and killed at least nine people on the Umpqua Community College (UCC) campus before officers shot and killed him.
A new report claims someone appearing to be Mercer wrote longingly of the attention given to Vester Lee Flanagan after he shot a television reporter and cameraman on air in Virginia.
Mercer wounded at least seven people in addition to those he killed on the gun free UCC campus, law enforcement says.
According to CBS News, a blog which appears to be Mercer's "[referenced] multiple shootings," including the shooting carried out by Flanagan on August 26.

The Daily Mail adds more background as of 9:30 a.m. ET, including quotes from neighbours, which are stereotypical:
The Los Angeles Times spoke to former neighbors of Harper-Mercer and his mother Laurel who described the pair as loners.
They also said that Harper-Mercer, who would often wear camouflage pants tucked into black boots, seems to carry around a black case with a gun inside and loved target shooting.
Rosario Lucumi, 51, said that mother Laurel would frequently call her son 'baby' despite the fact that he was an adult, and would get involved in disputes over loud noises and at one point a cockroach infestation she said was keeping her son awake at night.
Lucimi's daughter, Rosario Espinoza, said the young man always appeared 'anxious' and 'nervous.'
'He was a little odd, like sensitive to things,' said Rebecca Miles, who took a theater class with Mercer, while another neighbor, Steven Fisher, described him as 'skittish'.
'His demeanor, the way he moved, always looking around,' Fisher said. 'I got a bad vibe from him.'

Old fashioned men have just as much if not more common sense. Time being money, don't park too far away. Time being money, don't waste a hell of a lot of time driving around looking for a place.
6. Before the modern man heads off to bed, he makes sure his spouse’s phone and his kids’ electronic devices are charging for the night. The old-fashioned man lets the wife and kids check their own daggone chargers because they've run off with all his USB cords and never brought them back, causing him to spend big money over the course of a year to keep the supply replinished. 7. The modern man buys only regular colas, like Coke or Dr Pepper. If you walk into his house looking for a Mountain Dew, he’ll show you the door. In Germany he looks for Thurn und Taxis.
8. The modern man uses the proper names for things. For example, he’ll say “helicopter,” not “chopper” like some gauche simpleton. The old-fashioned man never uses stoopid terminology like "surgical strike." He also watches his language around ladies, which he thinks is more important than being finicky about what to call a heli.
9. Having a daughter makes the modern man more of a complete person. He learns new stuff every day. Having a daughter always makes a decent man's heart go pitty-pat. 11. The modern man has never “pinned” a tweet, and he never will. The old-fashioned man doesn't even know what "pinning a tweet" is. He did once catch a sensitive part of himself in a zipper, so he's pretty careful that way.

The old-fashioned man, having gone through a few hard times, uses the new bar of whatever was on sale at the Dollar Store, then squeezes the old sliver to the new bar, making them one when they dry out. 13. The old-fashioned man once whacked his daughter's butt, then put his hand over her mouth when she went to holler so she'd blow the stone out of her nose. 22. The modern man still ambles half-naked down his driveway each morning to scoop up a crisp newspaper. The old-fashioned man tries not to go out of the house naked by any fraction so as not to frighten people. He doesn't read a paper newspaper anymore and owns no more than a dozen paper books. He keeps several hundred digital books on Dropbox. That actually makes him feel more modern than the modern man.
23. The modern man has all of Michael Mann’s films on Blu-ray (or whatever the highest quality thing is at the time). The old-fashioned man has no idea who Michael Mann is, and seldom has time to watch movies anymore. 24. The modern man doesn’t get hung up on his phone’s battery percentage. If it needs to run flat, so be it. The old-fashioned man says a bad word when his phone dies but doesn't worry about it because no one ever calls him anyway.
25. The modern man has no use for a gun. He doesn’t own one, and he never will. The old-fashioned man has used guns, is a pretty good shot, and at the moment only owns one, a .22 that he hasn't shot in years. If he felt the urge to buy one for home defense he'd do so, .38 caliber or better. The old-fashioned man isn't afraid of guns. His granddaddy and his Dad taught him to shoot and to care for the things. Guns are neither a phobia nor a fetish with him.

Olde Fashioned swksvolFF knows where his food comes from, and the cuts. The filet mignon (cough) has so little fat bacon is wrapped around it. If there is any charring, it is the bacon which is easily unwrapped from the cut.
Fillet is a generic term for a cut of boneless meat. That he? mentions specifically steak, tells me he meant mignon. No restaurant of Modern Man would serve food so poorly cooked, so he must not have the balls or brains to tell his wife and teach her how.

swks's wife got to choose which side of the bed she wanted, and chose the close side on account of being with child and all post-child events like bad cold, first night in a bed. The monthly employer BLS data does not give that information.
The information you want is derived from the household survey and is difficult to understand.
The Center for immigration studies spends a lot of time trying to get a handle on that and, although they have some talented people, I'm not sure they really can estimate that well.

Considering workforce participation has been as bad as it was in 2008 and the only job "growth" has barely kept up with population growth I would say that the economy is still in the same shape, if not worse than 2008.
The problem is now we don't have any "tricks" left to fix it as we used them all. The continuing deterioration of the world economy with China and the EU going down will bring things really crashing down.
It is just a question of how fast it happens. A slow collapse will just bring pain, but hopefully not to much civil unrest. A quick collapse has the potential to cause massive and violent unrest and civil wars.

By museum officials' calculations, the closing of the 138-year-old museum in Springfield and its four satellite facilities will initially save the state less than $400,000, a tiny fraction of Illinois' projected $5 billion budget gap.
The Republican governor targeted the museums and the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in the southern Illinois community of Sparta for closure effective Wednesday. He says it's part of his efforts to manage state finances while a budget deal with Democrats who control the Legislature remains elusive.
Critics say the closings are another sign of how intractable the situation has become, as both sides dig in and the state enters its fourth month without a spending plan.
