China-Japan-Koreas
Pompeo meets top North Korean to plan possible Trump-Kim summit
[IsraelTimes] Talks in New York appear to confirm once canceled sit-down between leaders of US and North Korea getting back on track
If it happens, they’ll be prepared. If Pudgy screws up, it won’t happen. Then other decisions will be executed.
Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s right-hand man began talks with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s top diplomat on Wednesday amid a scramble to organize next month’s historic nuclear summit between the North Korean and US leaders.

Kim Yong Chol, a veteran Pyongyang power player and a member of the young autocrat’s inner circle, flew in on an Air China flight from Beijing, becoming the most senior North Korean official to visit the United States in 18 years.

Dialogue between the two sides began with a dinner meeting held in an apartment building near the UN headquarters at 7 p.m., ahead of further talks Thursday to finalize planning for a June 12 summit designed to end a nuclear standoff that once threatened to plunge Korea back into war.

Pompeo, who arrived at the venue first, was accompanied by Andrew Kim, the head of the Koreas desk at the CIA. Kim Yong Chol arrived minutes later and was also accompanied by an aide.

Neither side spoke to the press ahead of the dinner, but a tweet by Pompeo before the meeting notably described the Trump-Kim meeting as a "potential summit."

"Looking forward to meeting with Kim Yong Chol in New York to discuss @Potus potential summit with Chairman Kim. We are committed to the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," wrote Pompeo.

US and North Korean envoys have also been meeting in Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, and an American "pre-advance" team is in Singapore to make logistical arrangements for the rapidly planned meeting.

"So far the readout from these meetings have been positive and we’ll continue to move forward with them," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said, confirming the plan is still for the leaders to meet in Singapore on June 12.

With 13 days to go, the talks between General Kim and Pompeo, the former CIA chief who pioneered the latest round of face-to-face meetings, appeared to confirm that the process of getting two unpredictable leaders to the table is now on track.

"As the president says, if it happens, we’ll certainly be ready," Sanders said.

#1  Then a "faction" in the CIA leaks a assessment to a reporter that the kim ding Loon people are playing us and have no intention of doing any de-nuclearization.

A "faction" inside the CIA...how encouraging. The same people who would like to undermine the President that got elected. Apparently someone within the CIA wants to cancel millions of American votes. And the CIA apparently has a "faction" that believes the CIA doesn't work for the Executive branch ? Sort of sounds like the ISI in Pakistan, doesn't it? They don't work for the people of Pakistan and democracy doesn't work there either .

Makes you wonder who the CIA works for. Not a nice thought.

#5  No worries, Besoeker -- I've done worse. As I recall, I said something about the latest official inspection of Iran's nuclear refineries reported that they were in full compliance, thus demonstrating what a very bad deal President Barack Obama had negotiated. But as a friend of a friend once mentioned, young Barry Obama had not spent much time on the negotiation section of the Harvard Law curriculum.

Gertz: China in race to overtake the US in AI warfare
Key bits:
[Atimes] Earlier this month Chinese supreme leader Xi Jinping met with senior military scientists as chairman of the all-powerful Central Military Commission.

During the meeting, the Chinese leader was photographed at the PLA Academy of Military Sciences shaking hands with Major General Li Deyi, a leading authority on artificial intelligence, or AI, and a key figure in the Chinese military’s effort to overtake the United States in the emerging field of advanced weapons.

The meeting between Xi and the military experts garnered little public attention.

But within US intelligence agencies closely monitoring rival China, the attention given by Xi to Li was the latest sign of the growing importance Beijing places on rapidly building autonomous weapons ‐ robotic arms capable of thinking and acting at the speed of light.

The Chinese military quest for integrating AI into its tanks, naval forces and aircraft is the part of China’s asymmetric or "assassin’s mace" warfare strategy ‐ building high-technology arms that will enable China’s weaker forces to defeat the more powerful military of the United States in any future conflict.

Two years ago Xi spoke to the Central Military Commission and called on it to move ahead with fusing advanced technologies like big data, cloud computing and AI for the Communist Party’s People’s Liberation Army.

PLA Lieutenant General Liu Guozhi, the director of China’s Science and Technology Commission, has said AI is fundamentally changing how militaries wage war.

Yang Wei, the former chief designer for the Chengdu Aircraft Corp J-20 stealth fighter, said during a speech on future air combat last year that China’s next-generation fighter would utilize AI to achieve air superiority.

"China’s breakthroughs in AI can be expected to enable future unmanned combat aircraft (UCAV) that are more responsive than human-controlled aircraft, better able to counter large formations of enemy UCAVs, as well as enable new energy weapon-equipped space combat platforms that will have to prevail over US and other space combat systems," said Rick Fisher, a China military affairs expert.

"China can also be expected to use AI to enable very deep sea unmanned underwater combat vehicles (UUCVs) able to contest control over the ocean floor, where China will want to defend very large sensor grids of its Underwater Great Wall."

For China’s large and varied missile arsenal, AI has a future as well. Wang Changqing, a Chinese weapons designer, said future cruise missiles "will have a very high level of AI and automation. They will allow commanders to control them in a real-time manner, or to use a fire-and-forget mode, or even to add more tasks to in-flight missiles."

China’s application of AI to its growing cyber warfare capabilities also will increase the danger posed by cyber attacks and espionage.

China plans to attack enemy perceptions, understanding and reasoning by "taking the cognitive initiative and damaging or interfering with the cognition of the enemy based on the speed and quality of the cognitive confrontation."
Continues.

Report: U.S. to slap tariffs soon on steel, aluminum from EU
[Jpost] The United States will soon announce plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum from the European Union, possibly as early as Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The decision would land ahead of a Friday deadline for exemptions to the planned metals tariffs amid stalled trade talks, and is likely to prompt retaliation. President Donald Trump on March 23 imposed a 25 percent tariff on steel imports and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum, but granted temporary exemptions to the EU, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia and Argentina.

#1  LOL Europe is so fucked. Bet they feel like assholes for abusing us for so long. Maybe they shouldn't have free rode off our defense guarantees and laughed all the way to the bank while racking up gargantuan trade surpluses.

Nah I bet they feel they're the victims here. Ungrateful jerks.

CIA Undermines North Korea Summit By Leaking Report To Media Asset
[DisobedientMedia] Just as it was reported that the summit between the United States and North Korea was back on and that Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea was on his way to New York to meet with officials in preparation for the June 12 summit, the CIA leaked an intelligence assessment concluding that "North Korea does not intend to give up its nuclear weapons any time soon." The timing of this leak is striking, as it seems to be an effort to undermine negotiations between the two nations and comes just days after ranking members of the Democratic Party and Republican hardliners attacked President Donald Trump over his efforts to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
CIA intelligence estimates have been known to be wrong from time to time. There was the one they issued about Iran in President George W. Bush’s time, the prediction of Soviet stability in President Reagan’s, the success of the Bay of Pigs adventure... How fortunate that President Trump is fully capable of walking away from negotiations he evaluates as unlikely to succeed.
The identity of the reporter who helped break the story also raises serious questions about whether or not a faction within the CIA deliberately attempted to undermine diplomatic efforts to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula. According to NBC News, the report was leaked to none other than NBC national security reporter Ken Dilanian, known as "The CIA’s Mop-Up Man."

In 2014, The Intercept reported on Ken Dilanian’s correspondence and relationship with the CIA while Dilanian was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times.

According to The Intercept, "Email exchanges between CIA public affairs officers and Ken Dilanian, now an Associated Press intelligence reporter who previously covered the CIA for the Times, show that Dilanian enjoyed a close collaborative relationship with the agency, explicitly promising positive news coverage and sometimes sending the press office entire story drafts for review prior to publication. In at least one instance, the CIA’s reaction appears to have led to significant changes in the story that was eventually published in the Times."

According to the Huffington Post, while writing for the Los Angeles Times, Dilanian also reported a CIA claim as fact by stating that "there was no collateral murder in a 2012 drone strike on Al Qaeda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi." Dilanian’s article was directly disputed in an Amnesty International report.

In the aftermath of the revelations about Dilanian’s ties to the CIA, he was disavowed by the Los Angeles Times. The disclosure of Dilanian’s collaboration with the CIA also led his former employer, David Lauter of the Tribune Washington to believe Dilanian could have violated Tribune news policy. Lauter acknowledged that Tribune policy dictates that reporters "not share copies of stories outside the newsroom." Lauter further stated that he was "disappointed that the emails indicate that Ken may have violated that rule."

Dilanian has not shied away from pushing articles written by former CIA officials who continue to perpetuate the "Trump-Russia" collusion narrative without any regard to facts, such as Steven Hall’s Washington Post article titled: "I was in the CIA. We wouldn’t trust a country whose leader did what Trump did."

Since nukes are on the line here they really should track down who released this with the intent to scuttle negotiations and put them into a cell to think about what they did.

Police: 7 men accused of touching girls at Roseville water park
[KCRA] Seven men were arrested and accused of inappropriately touching several young girls on Memorial Day at Golfland Sunsplash water park in Roseville, police said.

At least one victim was under 14 years old.

Sunsplash officials received reports of several men touching girls on Monday, police said. After children and family reported the inappropriate behavior, Golfland Sunsplash security separated the victims and kept the suspects together in a group before police arrived.

Witness statements, in conjunction with Sunsplash security personnel, led officers to have probable cause to arrest the seven men on multiple charges, Roseville police said.

The suspects have been identified as:

Gursharanpal Banga, 34
Manpreet Singh Dhillon, 26
Lars Lundquist, 30
Lakhveer Singh Gill, 30
Baljinder Singh Khaira, 38
Balwinder Singh Malhi, 32
Caleb Stoltzfus, 18
Dharampal Singh, 21
Harpreet Singh Talwar, 18

"It appears that the individuals worked in a coordinated fashion to get a young victim near them or around them and then they proceeded to inappropriately touch the victim," said Rob Baquera, with the Roseville Police Department. "The kids involved in this situation reported it to on-site security and on-site security immediately reported it to the police department. That’s how we were able to apprehend these individuals."

Steve Rodgers, general manager with Golfland Sunsplash, said the men were doing other abnormal behavior before their arrests.

"These guys were, I think they were, acting up because they were getting saved in all the pools," Rodgers said. "I don't know if they could swim. They acted like they couldn't swim."

Sunsplash officials released the following statement in response to the arrests:

"We at Roseville Golfland Sunsplash take allegations of this nature very seriously. We are committed to providing a safe environment for all of our patrons. We contacted the authorities immediately and will fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies investigating this matter. We are unable to discuss any details involving any ongoing investigations."

Baquera credits the actions of the water park and victims for the arrests.

"It was swift thinking by these young ladies involved in this situation to report it to security," Baquera said. "We always recommend if you see something or something seems inappropriate, make sure you report it to appropriate personnel."

The seven men were booked on charges of committing lewd and lascivious acts with children under the age of 14 and conspiracy to commit a crime, police said.

No additional details have been released.
Nor, I'm sure, shall they be.
