-Lurid Crime Tales-
Five Uvalde officers who were on-site during school shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead are now under investigation - while two more are suspended with pay
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] This would be War on Police if they were unfairly criticized for properly doing their job. Since they’re being fairly criticized for deliberately doing such a bad job that they helped a mass murderer kill, it’s Lurid Crime.
  • Five Department of Public Safety officers in Texas are under formal investigation over their actions on the day of the Robb Elementary School shooting in May

  • In total, 19 children and two teachers were murdered in the shooting

  • Infamously, hundreds of law enforcement officers arrived at the scene of the shooting but waited over an hour before engaging the gunman

  • Two of the five officers have already been suspended without pay as the investigation continues

  • This new investigation comes on the same week that school students in Uvalde are returning to class for the first time since the massacre
This comes on the back of a massive $27 billion class action lawsuit seeking accountability and justice for the families of the victims that will be filed against law enforcement in Texas this month.

Maryland county implements 30-day CURFEW for children under the age of 17 after 'deadliest' month in decades: Cops say 24 people were murdered in August including boy, 15, shot outside 7-Eleven
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Children aged 17 and under must be indoors from 10pm-5am on weeknights and Sundays, and from midnight to 5am on Friday and Saturday

  • The curfew will be in place for 30 days in what Angela Alsobrooks, executive for Prince George's County, termed a 'cooling down' period

  • Alsobrooks noted an 'eye-popping' 430 arrests of juveniles this year so far - nearly double the number last year

  • There have also been 84 arrests of young people for carjackings so far this year - almost the same figure as for the entire 12 months of 2021

  • Parents of young people found out after curfew will be fined and risk having their children taken into care if they do not respond to correspondence
PG County is a mostly Wakandan suburb of DC. I think they had an OK Corral-style shootout there the other night.

-Great Cultural Revolution
Planned Parenthood Isn't On The Way Out, It's Transitioning To Gender-Bending
[ConservativeReview] Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party...
has found something besides abortion to sell. Few people realize that, nationally, "Planned Parenthood is the second largest provider of hormone therapy" for "transgender and gender non-conforming patients," it reports.
Certainly didn't plan on that before I became a parent.
Even in states that have banned all or most abortions, Planned Parenthood affiliates are fighting to stay open under the banner of "gender-affirming care." A term unheard of by most people as recently as a few months ago, "gender-affirming care" has become the umbrella term for addressing gender dysphoria, especially in children and young teens, through surgery, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones. It is better thought of as profitable, appearance-altering, experimental protocols, with very little oversight or regulation, though sometimes it is funded by taxpayers.

Trailing daughter #1 has gender dysphoria in addition to all the other problems that stem from trying to deal with autism and narcolepsy — apparently there is a much higher level of that among those with autism than in the general population. Because of all her problems, she may never be able to live independently, despite an IQ in the genius range and a history of hard work that goes back to age eleven..

Portland OR: Homeless terrifying locals
From the Daily Mail with lots and lots of pictures and interviews with locals which won't make it into American newspapers
‘I'm done with Portland' : Furious residents of the Dem-led city reveal to DailyMail.com why they have no choice but to sell their homes as 'homeless drug addicts' set up camp right outside their front doors.
  • Residents of Portland are selling their homes due to the homeless epidemic that is ravaging the city.

  • Some homeowners say they are 'terrified' to leave the house due to mental illness in homeless communities.

  • The city has set up Safe Rest Villages, a program that shelters homeless people in designated lots.

  • But unauthorized homeless encampments are popping up in many neighborhoods, spreading to the suburbs.

Single-engine Cessna nearly smashes into a Delta Boeing 757 passenger jet in mid-air
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Footage shows the moment a single-engine Cessna nearly crashed into a Delta Boeing 757 passenger jet in midair over Orlando International Airport

  • The near-miss that could have seen mass casualties if the two planes collided - and is currently being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

  • The video, filmed from inside the Cessna, shows the pilot's reaction to the crisis, which saw him take quick, evasive action by ascending over the climbing aircraft

  • The pilot, Malik Clarke, recalled the encounter in a recent interview, detailing how he was forced to take 'evasive action' to avoid the passenger plane

Baltimore officials issue boil water advisory after high levels of E.Coli are detected across several neighborhoods - making Charm City just the latest American municipality this year to grapple with the failure of its water system

  • Baltimore is encouraging its residents to use only bottled water after a boil water advisory was issued earlier this week after the detection of E. coli

#5  "6. The Age of Decadence After a long period of wealth and power, Sir John established that all empires decline in this pattern. “Frivolity, aestheticism, hedonism, cynicism, pessimism, narcissism, consumerism, materialism, nihilism, fatalism, fanatics and other negative behaviors and attitudes suffuse the population. Politics is increasingly corrupt, life increasingly unjust. A cabal of insiders accrues wealth and power at the expense of the citizens, fostering a fatal opposition of interests between haves and have nots. The majority lives for bread and circuses (panem et circusem); they worship celebrities instead of divinities…. throw off social and moral restraints — especially sexuality; shirk duties but insist on entitlements.”

The actual collapse of a civilization is much like the bankruptcy of an organisation. It happens very gradually over a long period of time, and then suddenly, it folds. Eminent historian and anthropologist Sir John Glubb wrote The Fall of Empires in 1976 and said this:

“The life expectation of a great nation, it appears, commences with a violent, and usually unforeseen, outburst of energy, and ends in a lowering of moral standards, cynicism, pessimism and frivolity.”

Sir John Glubb lists the six ages of a civilization's growth and collapse ...most have lasted 10 generations or so, around 250 years.

In ways very prescient as we are in the 246th year of the Republic. While wary of simplified historical analysis, it is interesting nonetheless.

Regions Bank (headquartered there, big buildings) bought up the bonds (pennies on the dollar), and arrainged with the city to take over and run it. Fixed the system (out of bank profits, they gotta protect their investment), set up a corporation to manage things, and spun it off. City input not wanted.
Shareholders said "Attaboy, try not to let this happen again."

#1  PLZ-5s 155mm has range of 40k.
The Taiwan Strait is a 180k.
Perhaps the story is wrong or they have something with a much longer range.
Possibly these are to bombard Kinman or one of the close islands and claim a fairly easy victory to satisfy the Mob.

#3  Arty is the last bit or combat power to come ashore in an amphibious assault. Whether SP or towed - very heavy, not vey mobile, and needy logistics trail w/fuel and ammo. Might be some small stuff in late waves but heavy/big guns come much much later. Taiwan is not an arty fight IMNSHO.

#4  As I recall one of the problems at Omaha Beach was that the artillery was sent ashore long before it could be of any use. Not what the assault troops needed at that point in time.

#5  In the video the arty looks more like self-propelled artillery, like a tank. Would that change the order of landing at all?

'Everything is crashing!' Frustrated parents lash out at Los Angeles school district after massive cyber attack SHUTS DOWN its computer systems and brings classes to a halt
  • LA school districts have shut down computer systems following a cyber attack

  • 540,000 students and 70,000 LA district employees had password changes

Abu U,

Can't rule that cause out, and I'm pretty sure not one of those little snowflakes would know HOW to use a pencil and paper.

Am reminded of an instance in the late 80s where my Air Force base went computerized for all maintenance work orders - and it was going to take us so far into the millennium that we were told to dispose of the paper forms, and to be found in possession of said forms would get your section a write up.

The obvious happened; the new computer system crashed and stayed that way for three months.

With the exception of my Combat Munitions Unit, because I had the good sense to take all those forms and put them in my trunk. We never missed a job.

San Francisco school district asks parents to rent out spare rooms to TEACHERS because they can't afford soaring housing costs: Average price of a one-bedroom apartment soars 11% to $3,000 a month in the world's tech capital
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Milpitas Unified School District near San Jose is home to 941 staff members - and some of the highest rents in the country

  • A one-bedroom apartment is now averaging $3,017 - meaning even the highest-paid teachers on $111,410 could not afford the rent

  • The lowest paid teachers, earning $67,163, could only rent an apartment at a maximum value of $1,679 - impossible in the neighborhood

  • Cheryl Jordan, superintendent of Milpitas Unified School District, said the rental costs were putting off prospective teachers

  • The district has asked parents to rent spare rooms to teachers: so far, 34 families have said they are interested in helping out

Antwerp Mayor Blasts ‘Green Dogmatics’, Admits ‘Bankrupt’ Belgium Is ‘The New Greece’
[ZeroHedge] "In America people are not in this shit," exclaims mayor of Antwerp, Bart De Wever during an interview on Belgian TV.

"They are now exporters of oil and gas, but they certainly weren't twenty years ago. Climate standards are not of much use if all your companies go to America and China to produce, then you are bankrupt and the climate is not yet saved. This is the green dogmatics. People should start realizing this."

The outspoken mayor held nothing back during the Flemish current affairs program De Zevende Dag.

“Oil, gas and coal were no longer allowed. No investments were allowed in reserves. Germany does not have a single LNG terminal (a terminal for liquefied natural gas, ed.). The dumbest countries, Germany and Belgium, have phased out nuclear energy in parallel. We have pushed away all energy sources, making ourselves dependent on Putin. Now we hang on to it.”

The previous government, of which De Wever's party was part, decided that the Belgian nuclear centers Tihange 2 and Doel 3 should close.

“It's a purple-green law. We now have a purple-green government. That is a recipe for catastrophe.”

Prime Minister Alexander De Croo says the country is 'in an economic war situation'.

“Everything has to be on the table.”

According to De Wever, it is time 'for bitter truths'...

“This country is bankrupt.”

Somebody's not going to get invited to Van der Leyen's Christmas party this year...

Ireland fines Instagram 405M euro for failing to protect children's data

[ArsTechnica] Ireland’s data regulator has fined Instagram 405 million euro for violating the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation and failing to safeguard children’s information.

The fine from the Data Protection Commission followed a two-year investigation into the Meta-owned social media platform. The investigation covered complaints that Instagram defaulted the accounts of all users, including those under the age of 18, to public settings. It also related to how the contact information of children using business accounts on the platform was publicly available.

Instagram, which allows users over the age of 13, said the fine related to old settings that were updated more than a year ago. It said it had released features to keep teenagers’ information private, including automatically setting children’s accounts to private when they sign up since July last year.

Teens are now also prompted on business accounts that their contact information will be displayed publicly unless they choose to remove it.

"While we’ve engaged fully with the DPC throughout their inquiry, we disagree with how this fine was calculated and intend to appeal it. We’re continuing to carefully review the rest of the decision," the company said.

The fine is one of the largest under GDPR and the third the Irish regulator has handed to Meta, which also owns Facebook and WhatsApp. Full details of the regulator’s decision on Instagram will be published next week.

Meta was fined 17 million euro in March by the Irish regulator following an investigation into data breach notifications on Facebook. Last year, it was fined 225 million euro for violating privacy laws on WhatsApp.

Meta is appealing against the WhatsApp ruling but has accepted the Facebook decision.

The platform last year paused plans to launch Instagram Kids, a bespoke version of the app for users under the age of 13, in response to global government scrutiny and concerns from child safety campaigners. It is unclear when it will launch, and the company confirmed the project is still paused.

In the UK, changes to social networks were introduced last year to protect children’s privacy when the Children’s Code, or age-appropriate design code, became law.

The regulations, which demand stricter requirements to collect and process children’s data, have inspired other countries, including Ireland, Australia, and Canada, to draw up similar rules.

Last week, California lawmakers in the state senate approved their age-appropriate design code, which could come into force in 2024.

"There is an urgent priority for a universal settlement for children’s privacy so that children across the globe are protected," said Lady Beeban Kidron, who proposed the Children’s Code and is chair of children’s digital rights charity 5Rights.

"No environment is 100 percent safe, but social media companies have been slow to act and cavalier about accepting the negative impacts of their products on children. Safety-by-design is not an aspiration, it is the minimum we should expect," she added.

Texas Urologist uses EV to Conduct Vasectomy
[Free Beacon] The American people got a terrifying glimpse into the tech-driven childless dystopia President Joe Biden and his liberal allies are striving to achieve after a urologist in Texas last week performed what is believed to be the world's first vasectomy powered by an electric vehicle.
Shocking!
Dr. Christopher Yang congratulated himself on Twitter for using his $70,000 Rivian electric truck to power the castration-esque procedure after his clinic in Austin (where else?) suffered a power outage. "Power in clinic went out, patient didn't want to reschedule cause he already had time off," Yang wrote. "Procedure went great!"

Cheaper scallops are on the way: Israeli food-tech strikes again
[Jpost] Scallops: enjoyed by many, dreaded by some, and pretty expensive across the board. Due to overfishing and stagnating fish farm growth, supply of the protein-rich mollusks is far from maintaining an equal stride with its demand – but luckily for seafood lovers with light wallets, the engineers at Jerusalem-based foodtech start-up Mermade Seafoods have developed a way to grow scallops in a much cheaper and more streamlined way.

Earlier this week, following the company’s completion of an oversubscribed $3.3 million seed round, Mermade unveiled a new method for growing cultivated scallops to maximize the use of materials required for production, which it calls “circular cellular agriculture technology.” This new method improves upon those typically employed by meat cultivators by recycling the cultivated cells’ growth medium.

With its innovative and novel technique, Mermade expects that it can streamline the global scallop market and provide a high quality, tasty product at prices far lower than what is currently available.
