Billion-dollar supersize prisons are slated to be built across the U.S.
[Newsbreak] Alabama, Nebraska, and Georgia are among states embarking on ambitious plans to construct new, costly prisons in an effort to alleviate issues of overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and inadequate mental health resources in existing facilities. The Alabama Corrections Institution Finance Authority approved a historic $1.08 billion budget for a 4,000-bed prison, while Nebraska is building a $350 million, 1,500-bed facility, and Georgia aims for a $1.69 billion, 4,500-bed replacement for its current jail. Proponents argue these measures will enhance public safety and address urgent concerns within the penal system.

However, critics, including prison reform advocates, argue that constructing new prisons without addressing underlying systemic issues is a short-term solution. They emphasize the need for meaningful rehabilitation and reforms aimed at reducing incarceration for minor infractions and expediting processing times for inmates. These advocates contend that the focus should be on addressing root causes rather than merely expanding bed capacity.

Bianca Tylek, executive director of Worth Rises, highlights the concern that an increase in beds could lead to more individuals being incarcerated, emphasizing that the problem lies within the system itself, not the infrastructure. Critics also express dismay at the high costs and question whether the funds could be better allocated to address pressing issues like poverty and food insecurity, especially in economically disadvantaged regions.

‘Kidnapping!': Video Shows Sergio Brown Apparently Fighting With Police On Airplane
Another in our multi-part series entitled 'Flying While Black'
[Daily Caller] A viral video shows former NFL player Sergio Brown apparently fighting with Mexican officers on an airplane Sunday.

Brown was being extradited back to the United States to face murder charges in connection to the death of his 73-year-old mother Myrdle Brown, according to CBS 8. He was on a flight that was reportedly supposed to take him to Tijuana.

"They’re kidnapping me ... I’m from Chicago," Brown can be heard yelling on the plane. "I should not be going to Tijuana."

Brown appears to be scuffling with Mexican immigration officers in the video, yelling, "Let me go! This is kidnapping!"

Michelle Williams, the person who filmed the incident, explained her confusion with the situation.

"It was crazy just to hear him start yelling that he was being kidnapped, that these men were kidnapping him. And I’m just thinking, what is going on?" Williams said, according to CBS 8. Brown had not been handcuffed, according to Williams.

After about an hour and a half, officers were able to get Brown off the plane, Williams said, per CBS 8.

I Didn't Know it was Loaded

[Bearing Arms]
A carjacker died after he accidentally blasted himself in the chest while trying to smash a window with the butt of his shotgun, an inquest has heard.
DOH!
Officers investigating the death of Reece Ramsey-Johnson said they were satisfied there was ’no third party involvement’ as they closed the probe into his killing.
He's dead, Jim.
Witnesses who saw the 22-year-old dying from gunshot wounds in the street outside a Lloyds bank in Sydenham on Sunday, September 8, said his own gun may have gone off when he used to to hit a car window.
To some people everything is a hammer.
Now, this was a UK carjacker and not the American variety of the breed, but it’s still the feel-good story of the day, that’s for sure.

It also suggests that British gun control laws aren’t nearly as effective as some want to claim them to be. After all, if someone like this snotnosed punk could get a shotgun, they can’t be all that hard to obtain on the black market that I’ve been assured doesn’t really exist in the UK.

To be sure, Ramsey-Johnson got precisely what he deserved, regardless of where he was located. Such criminals should always meet such ends. At least here in the United States, we can arrange for them to meet those ends. In the UK, you have to hope and pray it’s someone of Ramsey-Johnson’s...intellect. That’s what it takes to make sure predatory jackwagons get precisely what they deserve.

Honestly, though, I’m actually a bit baffled at just how stupid you have to be to shoot yourself in the chest while trying to bust a car window. I get that they don’t have the gun culture we do, but it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you don’t point your gun at yourself while you smash the firearm against a window. This is especially true if there’s something like a finger on the trigger.
Dumber than a bucket of hair.
Opening the inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court on Thursday September 26, Dr Andrew Harris confirmed the police investigation had now ended.

He said: ’The investigating officer is satisfied there is no third party involvement.

At this point, Ramsey-Johnson’s death isn’t just a feel-good story, but a prime example of nature adding a little chlorine into the gene pool. My only hope is that this jackwagon hadn’t already reproduced and thus spread his idiocy to a whole new generation.

Private security guards hired to clear large homeless encampment known as 'The Pit' as Portland outlaws camping in public spaces
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A homeless encampment known as 'The Pit' in downtown Portland has been cleared out and private security guards are patrolling the area in the latest push to clean up the poverty-stricken metro.

The tented neighborhood was a longstanding eyesore in the city, where huge crowds of homeless people were set up under the Steel Bridge by the Willamette River.

But locals praised removal crews and biohazard teams that descended on the site this week, forcibly moving 19 people into a mass-sanctioned campsite in the southeast of the city on Monday.

'They finally got their eviction notice, thank God,' said resident Aaliyah Mays, who told KGW she had been reporting the camp to the city for two and a half years.

The latest push to clear the area has seemingly stemmed from a fire that broke out in an under-bridge section of the encampment, with contractors working on the burned area hiring private guards to patrol the area and protect their equipment.

Major Banks Close Over 3,000 Branches Nationwide, With Recent 50+ Closures from Bank of America In Just One Week
[Gateway] Major financial institutions seem to be accelerating a trend that many conservatives find alarming: the closure of physical bank branches.

According to a bulletin published by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on Friday, Bank of America led the way by closing 21 branches in just the first week of October.

Wells Fargo was not far behind with 15 closures, while US Bank and Chase reported closing nine and three branches, respectively, according to the Daily Mail.

In total, some 54 locations had either closed or were scheduled to close between October 1 and October 7. Of the overall closures, three were in Louisville in Kentucky. Eight of the 21 Bank of America closures were in California.

On Friday, major US banks including Wells Fargo and JPMorgan Chase reported their third quarter earnings. Increased revenue thanks to higher interest rates saw both banks’ revenues increase.

This months’ closures come after an exclusive poll by DailyMail.com revealed that 51 percent of consumers said they were very or somewhat concerned about the declining number of bank branches. Only 18 percent said they were not at all concerned.

The survey also found that brick-and-mortar services are less accessible to black Americans. While 14 percent of black Americans said they did not have a local branch, that was only the case for 8 percent of white Americans.

Joe Biden's Latest Speech Is a Buffet of Senility, Jill Biden Has to Come on Stage to Rescue Him
[Red State] Joe Biden provided a reprieve from the news surrounding Israel's fight against Hamas on Saturday evening, as he delivered a buffet of senility during his latest speech.

The president was appearing at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) National Dinner when things went downhill. It's worth noting that the HRC is a rabidly anti-Israel (and anti-conservative) organization that has sought to make excuses for Hamas, but regardless, that's not what this piece is about.

Rather, we are here to discuss how this man is still president.

Judge J.P. Boulee issued the ruling for the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia on Wednesday. According to The Federalist, Judge Boulee said that the Biden administration and other Democratic groups "failed to show a substantial likelihood of success on the merits as to their claims that the provisions intentionally discriminate against black voters in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, Fifteenth Amendment and Section 2 of the [Voting Rights Act]."

...In March 2021, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed Senate Bill 202 into law which aims to protect the sanctity of Georgia elections. The bill, also known as the Election Integrity Act, mandates voter ID for absentee voting, bans ballot harvesting, increases security at ballot drop boxes, tightens the timeframe in which absentee voters can request a ballot, and increases regulations around provisional ballots.
Judge J.P. Boulee is a Trump appointee. Thank you, President Trump
The bill also places restrictions on campaign activities and public opinion polling within the vicinity of a polling place. For example, voters can not receive gifts or money within 150 feet of a polling location.

#1  Pretty designs, though as they point out, most of the houses are merely small rather than actually tiny. My parents reared four children in a 1000 sq.ft. ranch house, and Mr. Wife’s parents reared two in a house of the same size, and none of us had any idea that we were suffering for it.

#2  I've heard it is currently difficult to find a house builder willing to even bid on building a 1000 sq ft house. The expected profit would be too small to warrant their consideration.

#4  In my 'rural' part of the county, there are a lot of prefabs. Of course in New Mexico environment they seem to last a lot longer and don't face the usual threat of tornadoes being the magnets they are elsewhere.

#7  Back in 2015 I was getting quotes of about $125 to $150 sq/ft. for a WNC 1 story 2 bed / 2 bath cottage.
Now its $250 to $275 a sq/ft., all depending on materials and availability.

Jokingly started pricing inter-city houses that were looking at possible condemnation. These slap-board or cinder block 2/2's 1200 sq/ft. type homes, built in the 1950's, were going for $50+k's. Then builders wanted $120+k to renovate to code.

Iranian 'regime change' 1953 - 70 years on, the haunting cockup continues
[MAIL] While revealing new details about the CIA rescue mission that inspired the Ben Affleck film Argo, the agency has for the first time acknowledged that the 1953 coup it backed in Iran was 'undemocratic'.

The admission came in a recent episode of the CIA's podcast, The Langley Files, released about a month before the unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel last weekend.
Wikileaks is so yesterday.
The 1953 coup, backed by US and British intelligence and carried out by Iran's military, saw the overthrow of Iran's elected prime minister and cemented the monarchical rule of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

It comes at a time of soaring tensions between Washington and Tehran, over the Islamic Republic's rapidly advancing nuclear program, its aid to terror groups including Hamas, and its domestic crackdown on dissent.

Other American officials have made similar remarks in the past, but the CIA's acknowledgment in a podcast about the agency's history comes as much of its official history of the coup remains classified 70 years after the putsch.
