#2  An unnamed senior official just recommended we find a "suitable dictator", put him in, and split. I think we should give them the opportunity for freedom, which we have, but if they'd rather have the Taliwackers or a despot, they should get it.
If they'd rather live with a tyrant who keeps them under his boot, what can we do to help them? They seem bitterly opposed to prosperity, and you can't whip it into them with all the rawhide in Texas.

#4  I would love to give them freedom, I just think it's such an uphill battle that America wouldn't be in it for the long haul which is why I suggested one of "our bastards" yesterday.

Another course nobody has talked about is just talking to the neighbors and dividing Afghanistan up by ethnic group. The threat alone, and the destabilizing effect it would have on Iran and Pakistan might get some people to stop the nonsense.

#2  It is one of the more interesting facts about Obama the writer that the father he chooses to represent, and whose legacy he chooses to embrace, is a bona fide monster--a scary polygamist who abused his wives and children and drank away his intellectual promise and his career, then crippled himself in a car accident that left him with iron legs, and finally wrapped his car around a tree in a second accident that luckily proved fatal to no one other than himself.

He calls it "interesting." I call it PATHOLOGICALLY REVEALING!

Bill Ayers wrote Barack Hussein Obama's memoir??
My title is for 2 reasons. 1. After reading Cashill's analysis below, that is my conclusion, and 2. Frustration that Sherrif Mike Scott of Lee County, FL is being investigated for using the chosen one's full name.
I have a request of all Rantburgers: Please use Barack Hussein Obama's full name EVERYTIME he is referred to.

Um, no, I'm not playing that game, thanks.
The censorship telegraphing from the left, the MSM and the Barack Hussein Obama campaign is reaching new levels. 'I' was not born in a socialist dictatorship...

Who Wrote Dreams From My Father?
By Jack Cashill

Prior to 1990, when Barack Obama contracted to write Dreams From My Father, he had written very close to nothing. Then, five years later, this untested 33 year-old produced what Time Magazine has called -- with a straight face -- "the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician."

The public is asked to believe Obama wrote Dreams From My Father on his own, almost as though he were some sort of literary idiot savant. I do not buy this canard for a minute, not at all. Writing is as much a craft as, say, golf. To put this in perspective, imagine if a friend played a few rounds in the high 90s and then a few years later, without further practice, made the PGA Tour. It doesn't happen.

And yet, given the biases of the literary establishment, no reviewer of note has so much as questioned Obama's role in the writing, then or now. As the New York Times gushed, Obama was "that rare politician who can write . . . and write movingly and genuinely about himself." These accolades matter all the more because Obama has built his political persona around his presumably superior intellect, Dreams being exhibit A.

#1  Computerised Determination of
Disputed Authorship:
The Cusum Method
by Tom Ashford

• The Cusum Method
• Authorship Attribution
• Stylometry

#2  Wikipedia on Stylometry

Stylometry is the application of the study of linguistic style, usually to written language. In the last few years it has successfully been applied also to music and to fine-art paintings.

Stylometry is often used to attribute authorship to anonymous or disputed documents. It has legal as well as academic and literary applications, ranging from the question of the authorship of Shakespeare's works to Forensic linguistics.
...
Modern stylometry draws heavily on the aid of computers for statistical analysis, artificial intelligence and access to the growing corpus of texts available via the Internet. Software systems such as Signature (freeware produced by Dr Peter Millican of Oxford University) make its use increasingly practicable, even for the non-expert.

Whereas in the past, stylometry emphasized the rarest or most striking elements of a text, contemporary techniques can isolate identifying patterns even in common parts of speech.

This link leads to a research project with software "JGAAP" funded by the NSF to do authorship studies.

#4  I don't know, I've read Hookwinked. Cashill is a plausable bullshitter, and kind of a crank.

I'd be more inclined to speculate that the common milieu produced two similar memoirs through externalities, and possibly Obama having read Ayers' book. Which of course would mean that Obama's a complete and total liar for the way he's been distancing himself from knowledge of his terrorist buddy, but we know that already, don't we?
Posted by: Mitch H. || 10/09/2008 13:43 Comments || Top||

#5  I'm not saying who wrote the book but I think the premise is based on a misconception. That Obama couldn't write a great memoir out the gate. I believe memoirs are the easiest type of book to write. You just talk into a tape recorder and have it transcribed. If you can orate you can write a memoir and most people agree that Obama can orate.

The best political memoir probably has more to do with the love affair between the media and Obama, as well as the fact that the memoir has to be personal because he has no political experience to talk about. So he's talking about different things than a typical memoir, which makes it unique. Oh,and did I say the media loves him?

#6  According to the post above, "Invisible Man" his mother worked on his unfinished drafts. Who knows she might have had literary talents.
Posted by: tipper || 10/09/2008 14:32 Comments || Top||

#7  I'm a writer, and I agree that it was Ayers. Writing is akin to fingerprints. No two writing styles are identical. Writing also is like a person's voice.

Obama's speaking never matches his "own" writing.

Ayers' speeches are EXACTLY like his own writing and exactly like "Obama's" writing.

Well, it figures, doesn't it.

(And remember, all you people, I was the one who outed the troll anti-war as three men of middle-eastern origin, rather than an Autralian female, as he (they) were pretending to be . . . way back when, BECAUSE of the writer's "voice." Unmistakable.)

So yeah, Ayers helped him write it.

"The public is asked to believe Obama wrote 'Dreams From My Father' on his own, almost as though he were some sort of literary idiot savant."

"Writing is as much a craft as, say, golf. To put this in perspective, imagine if a friend played a few rounds in the high 90s and then a few years later, without further practice, made the PGA Tour. It doesn't happen."

Right. It doesn't.

Just a few more lies from Obama.

I'm sure Ayers is laughing all the way to election booth.

My surprise-o-meter is permanently on the fritz regarding the Dems.

#8  The worst autobiographies are those in which the author is too much in love with his subject.
Posted by: Scott R || 10/09/2008 18:05 Comments || Top||

#9  Is this all possible? Yes. Plausible? Perhaps. Scientifically verifiable under a simpler standard? Probably so - will anyone ask BHO or the publisher to produce the notes, manuscripts, CDs or emails - the timing seems to be right around the widespread use of the internet/AOL/word processing - so there may be a combination of paper and virtual records. All of which could largely and instantly refute the vast bulk of the speculation here.

Or - this is akin to LGF and the CBS forged TANG document all over again.

I suppose stranger things have happened, but it's still a leap from he had a ghost writer, to the ghost was B. Ayers.

Are the Obamessiah's 15 minutes up?

The McCain folks are more helpful and generally friendly. The schedules are printed on actual books you can hold in your hand, read, and then plan accordingly. The press aides are more knowledgeable and useful to us in the news media. The events are designed with a better eye, and for the simple needs of the press corps. When he is available, John McCain is friendly and loquacious. Obama holds news conferences, but seldom banters with the reporters who've been following him for thousands of miles around the country. Go figure.

The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama's, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.

The other day in Albuquerque, N.M., the reporters were given almost no time to file their reports after McCain spoke. It was an important, aggressive speech, lambasting Obama's past associations. When we asked for more time to write up his remarks and prepare our reports, the campaign readily agreed to it. They understood.

Similar requests are often denied or ignored by the Obama campaign aides, apparently terrified that the candidate may have to wait 20 minutes to allow reporters to chronicle what he's just said. It's made all the more maddening when we are rushed to our buses only to sit and wait for 30 minutes or more because nobody seems to know when Obama is actually on the move.

Maybe none of this means much. Maybe a front-running campaign like Obama's that is focused solely on victory doesn't have the time to do the mundane things like print up schedules or attend to the needs of reporters.

But in politics, everything that goes around comes around.

Is that a promise, a threat, or both?

#7  DV, you're right. And lots of the congressional donks from conservative districts will be unwilling to go along with his crazier ideas for fear of another 1994. So there will be a lot of public sulking and passive aggression. He is not a leader once the charisma wears off. And that's already started, but not far enough along to keep him out of the White House. That, and he's using ACORN to game the general election the way he gamed the caucuses. There will be lots of questions about the legitimacy of his election. And I don't think the trunks will be a quiet as they were after 1960 because it will be more blatant, more demonstrable, and the atmosphere will be a lot nastier.

"Flag Officers" are nothing more then CEOs with ribbons on their chest. They support McCain because they want to keep their status.

I still cannot believe that the best this country has to offer is either McCain or Obama. What the hell happened??? This election boils down to a choice of picking the one who sucks the least.

#7  Besoeker,

I think he has a valid point about a lack of a good choice this election (probably could have worded it better). The very postings on this website were dead against McCain during the primaries--he was understandably the least favorite GOP candidate from a conservative point of view. I find it odd that conservatives on this site and elsewhere are rushing to hail McCain when all he has been is a "maverick" against Republican ideology for most of his congressional career.

Voting for him because of an "anybody but Obama" mentality will not yield anything. It didn't work for Kerry (anybody but Bush), and it won't work for McCain.

The fact is that the dems are a lot more enthusiastic about their candidate than the republicans are. And that will show, come election day.

I am sure I am the not the only one not motivated to vote. There were two major mistakes done this year (making McCain the nominee; and McCain picking Palin as his vp candidate), and no good will come of it.
Posted by: Todd || 10/09/2008 14:03 Comments || Top||

#8  I disagree with part of your last sentence, Todd: The McCain campaign couldn't shake money out of me until McCain named Palin as VP, after which I couldn't get my plastic out quick enough. Every time I send money in, I write "GO SARAH!" across the face of the recepit. They're gonna know damn well why and for who I am sending them money.

Everything else goes into the wastebasket.
Posted by: Ptah || 10/09/2008 15:04 Comments || Top||

#9  Voting for him because of an "anybody but Obama" mentality will not yield anything.

Actually, Todd, it will yield not Obama in the White House. But then, unlike Ptah I'm not a Conservative.
Posted by: trailing wife || 10/09/2008 15:15 Comments || Top||

#10  Palin is only good in comparison to McCain. If he had actually gone for someone like Romney--who would have been a great asset in the present economic meltdown--he would have attracted both conservatives and independents who would see that McCain at least had an economy "expert" on his side.

Unfortunately, to take a phrase from the man himself, he went for a tactic, not a strategy. He went for the Hillary vote by picking Palin. What did he lose as a result?

1. The ability to be seen my a majority of Americans as the best person to turn around the economy, and

2. The ability to attack Obama effectively on his lack of experience.

Why are we still cheering Palin on? That's just how desperate we've gotten to have some real conservative leadership. But we all know that maverick McCain listens to no one, let alone his less experienced vp.
Posted by: Todd || 10/09/2008 15:19 Comments || Top||

#11  I see where you are coming from, trailing wife. unfortunatley, that's not motivation enough for me. Unfortunately for McCain, teaching the GOP a lesson is a better motivation for me personally 9and possibly others).
Posted by: Todd || 10/09/2008 15:33 Comments || Top||

#12  If Obama is elected, rest assured the "lesson" taught will be on YOU mate. The presidential election is not about "teaching lessons" to either party, it's about selecting a capable national leader and maintaining our freedom.

You may feel comfortable with handing Nuclear Weapons Release Authority to a Chicago democratic machine community organizer and common race baiting hoodlum. I damn well do NOT!

You know, you could imitate the Buddhist monks of Saigon and immolate yourself in front of the Republican National Headquarters.

It would be just as ineffective as your so-called strategy, but would at least make for great press.

A financial apocalypse isn't nearly as scary as a nuclear one
This one makes my tummy hurt.....

Excerpt: ...Go to the websites of Barack Obama and John McCain and click on the "Issues" buttons. In neither case does the drop-down list include a separate category called "terrorism."

India-Pakistan
Pakistan Shall Plan for the Worst
It is said that one shall hope for the best but plan for the worst. Let's analyze some of the rhetoric coming from top US leadership. Admiral Mike Mullen told the House Armed Services Committee that he thinks that US is loosing in Afghanistan and that a new strategy needs to be formulated to counter the threat of militants in Pakistan. He further emphasized that new military strategy covering both [Afghanistan and Pakistan] sides of the border is essential. US Defense Secretary Robert Gates in an interview with the BBC argued in favor of the American right of striking at miscreants on the Pakistani side of the Afghan border and taking all necessary actions in self defense. In the debate held at Oxford, Democratic Senator Obama, American president hopeful said "If the United States has Al Qaeda, (Osama) bin Laden, top-level lieutenants in our sights, and Pakistan is unwilling or unable to act, then we should take them out". Last but not the least, the New York Times newspaper recently published a report claiming that "President Bush had approved orders in July to allow US Special Operations forces to carry out ground assaults inside Pakistan without Pakistani approval". Having read all these, I still believe that the possibility of American ground forces attack on Pakistan soil are very remote.

Let us try to find an answer to a question,"Can American really endanger its interest in South Asia by indulging in war with its front line ally on war on terror, which has best trained military and missile system capable of taking nuclear arsenals?" An objective and unemotional analysis will make it clear that the US attack on Pakistan is a remote possibility. To see how much odds are against Pakistan , lets see in historical background, how American behaved in different scenarios.

Nearing the end of the World War II , after the fall of Berlin to Russian forces, US dropped the "new weapon" on Hiroshima on 6 August when Russian Army were to enter the pacific war theatre on 8 August. US could have easily waited a few days to see the effect of Russian declaration of war on Japan. But as American had the ultimate weapon and Russians did not; so US ignored Russia all together. A few decades latter, during Kennedy administration, US did not use the nuclear option against Cuba when Russians refused to take away the missile from Cuban Peninsula. Russians this time had the nuclear weapon. Therefore, a deal was struck between the two "nuclear" power in which pledge of dismantling the missile sites from Italy and Turkey were obtained before Russia withdrew her missile from Cuba. Lesson to be learnt is that the only way to avoid US wrath is to negotiate from position of strength.

The US latest targets of aggression i.e. Afghanistan and Iraq have one thing in common and it is that they were both militarily very weak. Despite all the war mongering against North Korea and Iran, US has not dared to violate their sovereignty. Reason is simple and clear, North Korea and Iran can strike back. It shall be clear that the human cost (American) is of utmost importance for American administration before they take decision of going to war. If American perceives that the war is going to cost them heavily in American lives term, they will avoid it by all means.

US will not dare to attack Pakistan till the time Pakistani Government, like Iranian and North Korean government, keeps its military posture strong and show them that it has the capability to strike back at US interests. In Quran it is said that "Make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, to strike terror into the heart of your enemies and enemies of Allah, whom you know not but Allah does know". Quran has given us guidelines here, 1400 years ago, that the only way to ensure peace is to strike terror into the hearts of enemies. The only way to do so is to show them that you can cause them harm if they decided to launch a misadventure.

Our beloved Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is beacon of light for us and we all know that when he died he left behind just a few swords and body armor in his inheritance. This Sunnah put emphasis on every Muslim to be always ready for his defense. Till the time Pakistan act on the Sunnah of always prepared for defense, she has all the chances in this world, not only to survive but to progress and take her right place in the world. In my opinion, the people who argue for the reduction in defense budget are either intentionally or inadvertently donot realize that the day we lower our arm we are destined to doom just like Afghanistan and Iraq. We need to spend our resources for our defense. Once our borders are secured, we can concentrate on other projects of progress. Having said that, I must emphasize that Armed Forces of Pakistan shall concentrate on improving their capabilities and shall not indulge in politics.

In last, I will say it with conviction that if we are ready for the worst, the US will negotiate with us and will accept the sovereignty of Pakistan. Otherwise, if we think we can "seduce them with our charming personality" we have to think again. Once our borders are safe from American incursion, Pakistan Army shall use all its resources to get rid of all Indians sponsored "Pakistan Taliban " from the troubled area and make it peaceful again as it was before 911.

#2  Good, good, keep your "Military Posture" strong. If you don't run out of money in the next 30 days. Then what? Back to cooperation?
I think we should choke these bastards off the teat, and let them swim on their own. They're big boys with a bunch of braggadocio, so lets see what they've got.

#3  Well, i may disagree with the author on the article but i have to comment on the "comments". I could not read the name of India in the article but I could feel some Indians commenting negatively> It is shame.
