Officers astonished by the amount of contraband one inmate was able to smuggle into jail
WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — Police in Wenatchee are surprised at the amount of contraband an inmate was able to smuggle into the jail rectally. The Wenatchee World said the man internally carried a cigarette lighter, rolling papers, a baggie of tobacco the size of a golf ball, a smaller baggie of marijuana, a 1-inch smoking pipe, a bottle of tattoo ink and eight tattoo needles.

Sgt. John Kruse said the volume of contraband left officers wondering.

Chelan County Regional Justice Center administrator Phil Stanley said the man was booked into jail Wednesday night to serve a disorderly conduct sentence.

Nothing was found in a strip search. A jailer later found a plastic bag and duct tape in the toilet. After questioning the inmate surrendered the contraband.

Home Front: Culture Wars
America's Other John Paul Jones - John Barry, Naval Hero
Typical of Barry's indomitable spirit and ability to inspire his officers and men was a bloody, four-hour Atlantic action fought in May 1781, one that nearly ended in defeat and almost cost him his life. Barry's already damaged, undermanned frigate, the Alliance, was becalmed, a sitting duck for two smaller but more mobile British sloops of war.

As they raked the stranded Alliance with continuous fire, Barry was struck in the shoulder by a heavy piece of iron grapeshot and had to be taken below for emergency surgery.

He was still being bandaged when his rattled lieutenant came down, suggesting surrender. "No!" Barry roared. "If the ship can't be fought without me, I will be carried on deck."

#1  There have been four US Navy ships named after Commodore Barry. One, DD-933, is a museum ship. The current USS Barry, DDG-52, is an Arleigh Burke class missile cruiser. Her commissioning commanding officer was Captain (now Admiral) Gary Roughead, the current Chief of Naval Operations.
