Russian oligarch's story could spell trouble for Team Mueller (Opens to Video)
[The Hill] Sometimes it is the quiet, elusive ones who come back to haunt you. And for ex-special prosecutor Robert Mueller, one of those might be a Russian billionaire named Oleg Deripaska.

The oligarch who once controlled Russia’s largest aluminum empire has been an international man of intrigue in the now-completed and disproven Trump collusion investigation.

Deripaska was a disaffected former business client of Donald Trump’s fallen campaign chairman Paul Manafort. He also was a legal research client of Trump-hating, Clinton-aiding British spy Christopher Steele. In his spare time, he was an occasional friendly cooperator with the FBI and its fired deputy director, Andrew McCabe.

And, at the height of the Russia collusion hysteria, Deripaska was sanctioned by the Trump administration to financially punish Russian President Vladimir Putin for his meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

With the Russia case, in which he had so many connections, now completed, Deripaska is breaking his silence. And what he has to say could impact Mueller’s July 17 testimony before Congress.

In a wide-ranging interview with me, Deripaska confirmed a story told to me more than a year ago by law enforcement sources: He was indeed interviewed by FBI agents in September 2016 during the early Russia probe, and he told them he strongly doubted the bureau’s theory that the Trump campaign, through Manafort, was colluding with Moscow to hijack the 2016 election.

"I told them straightforward, ’Look, I am not a friend with him [Manafort]. Apparently not, because I started a court case [against him] six or nine months before ... . But since I’m Russian I would be very surprised that anyone from Russia would try to approach him for any reason, and wouldn’t come and ask me my opinion,' " he said, recounting exactly what he says he told the FBI agents that day.

"I told them straightforward, I just don’t believe that he would represent any Russian interest. And knowing what he’s doing on Ukraine for the last, what, seven or eight years."

OK, so why should you care if a Russian denied Trump campaign collusion with Russia during the election?

Britain
Secret cables to London from UK ambassador in Washington describe Trump as 'inept' and 'incompetent'
I stopped reading when I got to "Darroch, a former British ambassador to the European Union."
[Washington Examiner] Leaked secret cables reveal messages from the United Kingdom's ambassador to the United States making disparaging comments about President Trump.

Sir Kim Darroch, one of the U.K.'s most senior diplomats, referred to the president with several unflattering adjectives, including "inept" and "incompetent," according to cables published by the Daily Mail. "For a man who has risen to the highest office on the planet, President Trump radiates insecurity," Darroch also said.

In other messages from the ambassador meant to be seen only by the British government, Darroch, 65, was deeply critical of Trump's administration and legacy. In one missive, Darroch said, "We don't really believe this Administration is going to become substantially more normal; less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept."

Darroch, a former British ambassador to the European Union who was his country's national security adviser before being sent to Washington, has been in post since January 2016. He was expected to leave Washington and retire at the end of this year ‐ though that may now be brought forward.

After he was elected president, Trump made clear he would like to see Brexit leader Nigel Farage take Darroch's place. The timing of the leak is particularly unfortunate for Darroch because Boris Johnson, who has made plain his admiration for Trump, is poised to become British prime minister this summer.

Many of the messages, which span the entirety of Trump's presidency thus far, suggest trouble in the White House and specifically related to infighting between members of the administration. Darroch said Trump's entire life had been "mired in scandal." He also suggested to those who might deal with the president "you need to make your points simple, even blunt."

Although Darroch expressed was highly of Trump, he urged British leaders "not write him off," saying "that it was still possible that Trump would "emerge from the flames, battered but intact, like [Arnold] Schwarzenegger in the final scenes of The Terminator." Darroch also suggested that Trump had a "credible path" to being reelected in 2020.

After Trump's recent visit to the U.K., Darroch cautioned London that they might be "flavour of the month" for the president and "This is still the land of America First."

The ambassador additionally criticized Trump's ability to follow through on promises made during his presidential campaign. "Of the main campaign promises, not an inch of the Wall has been built; the executive orders on travel bans from Muslim countries have been blocked by the state courts; tax reform and the infrastructure package have been pushed into the middle distance; and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare is on a knife edge," he said.

Darroch skewered Trump's response to the attacks against two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and the shooting-down of a U.S. Navy drone, for which the U.S. has blamed Iran. "Its unlikely that US policy on Iran is going to become more coherent any time soon. This is a divided Administration," the diplomat said. He also said of Trump's 11th-hour decision not to carry out a retaliatory strike against Iran, "It's more likely that he was never fully on board and that he was worried about how this apparent reversal of his 2016 campaign promises would look come 2020."

Of the allegations that Trump could have colluded with the Russian government to get elected, Darroch said before the Mueller investigation concluded that "the worst cannot be ruled out" and that Trump's White House has been "dogged from day one by stories of vicious infighting and chaos inside the White House, and swamped by scandals ‐ all, one way or another, linked to Russia."

Unusually, the British Foreign Office distanced itself from Darroch in a statement, indicating that his judgments of Trump, which are widely shared at the top of the British government, were his own. "The British public would expect our Ambassadors to provide Ministers with an honest, unvarnished assessment of the politics in their country," a statement said.

China-Japan-Koreas
Goodbye, Hong Kong
[American Thinker] The demonstrations in Hong Kong to protest the proposed extradition law have turned violent. This past week, a group of hardcore protesters laid siege to Hong Kong's legislature, trashed the place, and said they were willing to die for their cause. And what is their cause? It is basically to maintain the One State, Two System relationship that was established between Hong Kong and the mainland from the time Great Britain turned its colony over the China in 1997 to the present.

And why have the protests turned violent? Have some anarchists come to town to stir up trouble? Doubtful. Or perhaps it was a false flag operation perpetrated by Beijing to justify a crackdown? That's more likely. But the most likely explanation is that a segment of Hong Kong's young people are desperate and are venting their frustration as Red China tightens its grip on the city.

Whatever is behind the protests ‐ and more have been promised ‐ it will not end well for Hong Kong. Yes, Hong Kong might win a skirmish here and there, but in the long run, it loses.

China simply cannot allow Hong Kong to have the degree of independence the former British colony wants. Hong Kong's economic importance to the mainland was once critical, but as China proper has grown, Hong Kong's value has diminished in relative terms. The problem with Hong Kong is not a matter of money for China. Rather it's that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has two imperatives. One is to keep its grip on power, and the other is to hold China together as a unified nation. A relatively independent Hong Kong is an affront to both.

As for holding China together, this is not a given. Peter Zeihan writes, "Chinese history is a tale of warlords and collapse imperial systems that just couldn't make it stick." Zeihan blames this on China's geography.

De Blasio (mis)plays the Dante card
[NYPOST] It was inevitable that Mayor Bill de Blasio
...cryptocommie mayor of New York and for some reason a Dem candidate for president in 2020. Corrupt and incompetent, his qualifications for office seem to consist of being married to a black woman, with whom he honeymooned in Cuba. He has a preppy-looking son named Dante, whose Divine Comedy involved getting his back hair up when a police car drove past him slowly...
would play the Dante card in his White House bid, but the clumsy way he’s done it helps explain why his 2020 hopes are so ... hopeless.

To be fair, the mayor got a slight bump in the polls after the first debate, where he bragged of being the only candidate who’s been "raising a black son." And, since he no longer much cares about leading the city he’s supposed to govern, it didn’t matter that, by repeating his talk about having "the talk" with young Dante, he once again all but called city cops a bunch of racists.

De Blasio’s campaign then tried to hit the point harder, by placing a Dante op-ed in USA Today ‐ a piece defending his dad’s comments about teaching his son to avoid confrontations with the police.

But then the mayor himself revealed offhandedly at a stop in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
that Dante had written the piece years ago. Which makes its publication now just another political gimmick.

Just like the mayor’s hokey tweets around the debate, sharing his debate-prep texts with his "champion debater" son.

It’s widely agreed that a television ad featuring then-15-year-old Dante was crucial to de Blasio winning the Democratic primary for mayor back in 2013. Yet it’s beyond telling that he’s already relying on the same gimmick ‐ rather than his record in office ‐ to get him out of the 1 percent doldrums in the 2020 campaign.

It’s not helping: De Blasio’s still far behind the mayor of tiny South Bend, Ind. ‐ and still oversleeping TV interviews. Maybe he should ask what alarm clock Pete Buttigieg
...mayor of South Bend, Indiana, since 2012. Buttigieg graduated from Harvard College and, on a Rhodes Scholarship, from Pembroke College, Oxford. From 2007 to 2010, he worked at McKinsey and Company, a consulting firm. From 2009 to 2017 Buttigieg served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve, attaining the rank of lieutenant and deploying to Afghanistan in 2014. Buttigieg was first elected mayor of South Bend in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. During his second term, he announced he was gay. Buttigieg also campaigned for Indiana state treasurer in 2010 and for chair of the Democratic National Committee in 2017, losing both elections. He is running for the Dem nomination in 2020 on the theory that being mayor of a nondescript medium sized city is qualification to run the country...
uses.

#3  I was told the other evening that the millionaire and billionaire sections of New York are doing well. Little or no crime and pleasant living (private security). Reminds me of Teflon Don in Pittsburgh. The areas he controlled people loved him. No crime and good place to live. Must be where Blasio lives removed from the troubles he has created. Perhaps this is the way in other Democrat hold areas.

It’s time for a federal civil rights intervention in Portland
[NYPOST] The savage beating of journalist Andy Ngo in Portland by far-left Antifa
...the armed wing of the Democratic Party...
rioters last Saturday shocked everyone. Well, conservatives anyway, plus a few honorable liberals. As the police stood by watching at a distance, masked thugs hit him, stole his camera and threw milkshake, rocks and eggs at him. He ended up in the hospital with a brain hemorrhage.

Criminal laws are supposed to deter criminal behavior. But that only works when the criminal gets caught and punished, and when people are permitted to hide their identities behind a mask, as antifa thugs are, no one gets caught.

Portland’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, has vowed to hold the offenders accountable. Let us know who the perpetrators are, he asked, and the city would hold them accountable ‐ a supremely useless plea when dealing with a largely masked and anonymous group.

The antifa slogan in Portland is "we own the streets." And they do. The city has let it happen. Last October, they blocked a street and threatened drivers and passers-by who wanted to get through. A few months before that, they beat up a Bernie Sanders

...The only first openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords. He ran for the 2016 nomination for president, to be cheated out of it by Hillary Clinton, then went back to being a socialist...

supporter who was carrying an American flag.

And it isn’t just Portland. We saw similar brutality in Washington, during President Trump’s Inauguration. Hundreds of rioting antifa members took over downtown DC. They marched in black bloc fashion, five abreast, their faces wholly covered, smashing windows and pushing people off the sidewalk. The police arrested 234 people, but not one of them was found guilty.

It’s the masks that save them. They’re a get-out-of-jail-free card. Deterrence doesn’t work when you can hide your identity. That’s a lesson we should have learned from the Ku Klux Klan.

Thanks to the masks, antifa won’t pay a cost. Instead, they will luxuriate in their sense of justified political hatred. They will also have the backing of prominent apologists in the liberal establishment, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who endorsed the antifa handbook, and CNN’s Don Lemon, who said in defense of the group that "no organization is perfect."

Best of all for antifa, their actions have an effect. They are letting conservatives and even dissident liberals like Ngo know that they aren’t safe in Portland.

Mind you, that only works if the state is complicit. And when the city abandons its duty to protect its citizens, its inaction amounts to permission.

Mayor Wheeler is picky about the people he will protect. When a federal immigration building was surrounded by protesters last summer, its workers feared for their safety. But the mayor supported the protesters, and, following his orders, the local police refused to take sides.

#3  Fuck the fêds !

You don't need their protection. People who love their countries shouldn't need protection from these punks. The feds will only protect them from you. The antifa is fighting with little more than spit and brickbats right now. But that can change. When that changes, the Purge will be on.

Before that happens, Americans must take matters into their own hands. Sure, you'll be on the wrong side of the democrat deepstate administration, and sacrifices will have to be made - careers, bones, friends... but this is no way to live, man. Watching your country taken over by gangs like mussolini's thugs or hitler's brown shirts, knowing where it leads and groaning before switching the channel to Discovery.

From academics to journalists and then police, everyone will fear these anonymous bastards one day. They will come to control legislation and local businesses, censorship and thought. All through mob violence. You have so much history and recent events in other countries to learn from. Doing this in a blue state was the best first run for the operation, because they're counting on armed conservative defenders not showing up from other states to Portland.

Somebody has to say this to able-bodied citizens, vets, conservative youth; if you want to wait and watch, you will simply wait for your own eventual silencing. You will rue these days when you still could have done something but didn't. Your children will live in fear because their fathers chose to comment on twitter and opine instead of picking up a steel bat. It is the birth of domestic terrorism in America's metros, favored and supported by mostly foreign origin politicians.

It needs a reply from brass dusters and folding truncheons, it needs a reply from CO2 powered ball bearings from rooftops and molotovs from passing motorcycles, it needs tailing home and visits in the night, it needs you .

I know one may think this is just rousing the rabble, but the rabble that cannot be roused against this, is only fit for cages.

One may also think this would further vilify the right, but nothing you do will make them accept you anyway. A number of you will say "This is not how we do things in America." Well, that is exactly what the democrats want you to think like. While doing you exactly this way !

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The Palestinians’ eternal ‘no’
[NYPOST] Thirty uniformed men surrounded Ashraf Ghanem’s home in Hebron, the West Bank, last weekend. He managed somehow to escape and, now in hiding, tell The Jerusalem Post he’s afraid for his life.

Sounds like a scene from Fauda, the spectacularly popular Israeli series on Netflix depicting the realities of terror-ridden life in the Paleostinian territories. But what happened to Ghanem was all too real.

The men who arrested Ghanem, an owner of a Hebron furniture company, were members of the Paleostinian Authority’s security forces. His "crime"? Ghanem was part of a 13-member Paleostinian delegation to last week’s economic workshop in Bahrain aimed at creating jobs and opportunity for Paleostinians.

Cockroaches Becoming ‘Almost Impossible' to Kill With Pesticides Alone
[US News] IF IT FEELS AS IF attempts to fix a cockroach infestation by spraying pesticides are futile, there may be a reason for that.

Researchers warn that pesticides are failing to work on the most common type of cockroach in the world, the German cockroach.

The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, found that the insects are developing a resistance to the insecticides on which exterminators rely.

"This is a previously unrealized challenge in cockroaches," said Michael Scharf, an author of the study and a professor at Purdue University. "Cockroaches developing resistance to multiple classes of insecticides at once will make controlling these pests almost impossible with chemicals alone."

Over the span of six months, Scharf and his fellow researchers used pesticide combinations in Indiana buildings containing cockroaches. One treatment involved a rotation of three different insecticides. Another used a mixture of two insecticides, and the last one used insecticides to which the cockroaches seemed to not be immune.

#2  They recommend desiccant dust for bedbugs — would that work for cockroaches as well? From an article on bedbugs:

Desiccant dusts. Two low toxicity dusts with good effectiveness include silica aerogel and diatomaceous earth (DE). Both of these dusts are low risk to humans, and work by desiccating, or drying out, bed bugs that come in contact with it. Silica aerogel is, in some studies, superior for this purpose. It is sold under various trade names including Tri-Die™ and CimeXa™. Diatomaceous earth can also be effective. Look for DE for insect control–it is not the same product as diatomaceous earth used in swimming pool filters, which is dangerous to breath. Some pest control companies now use desiccant dusts extensively in bed bug control. These relatively inexpensive dust can be purchased online or in garden centers or hardware stores. Look for products labeled for indoor use and lightly dust all accessible crack, crevices and voids.
