FBI Director Wray Pushed to Withhold Exculpatory Evidence In Michael Flynn Case
[Red State] If current FBI Director Christopher Wray didn’t show himself to be the wrong man for the job with his ridiculous response to the recent FISA abuse revelations, here’s more fuel to throw on that fire.

According to sources, Wray not only knew about the exculpatory evidence now being present by Sydney Powell, lawyer for Michael Flynn, he also fought to keep it hidden. That’s the latest report via The Daily Caller.

Federal Bureau of Investigations Director Christopher Wray fought to prevent exculpatory evidence from surfacing in the case of President Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, a source with direct knowledge of the situation tells Daily Caller.

New court documents were filed in Flynn’s case Friday containing the aforementioned exculpatory evidence, commonly referred to as Brady Material. Flynn’s attorney, Sidney Powell, announced the new filing on Twitter. She has repeatedly accused the FBI and Justice Department of hiding evidence in the case.

Powell gave a statement on the matter today.

"This afternoon, the government produced to Mr. Flynn stunning Brady evidence that proves Mr. Flynn’s allegations of having been deliberately set up and framed by corrupt agents at the top of the FBI," Powell wrote in an additional filing. "The government has deliberately suppressed this evidence from the inception of this prosecution—knowing there was no crime by Mr. Flynn."

If Wray was indeed involved, it wouldn’t be surprising at all. The idea that he wouldn’t know such evidence exists given the high profile nature of the case seems unlikely. Given that, the fact that the FBI had to be drug kicking and screaming to finally produce it is very concerning. As I noted, Wray’s response to the FISA abuse scandal was also incredibly concerning, as he seemingly glossed over the issues in a way that even made the FISA court itself push back.

Jonestown Redux?
[AspenBeat] Over 900 people including 300 children drank cyanide-laced Kool-Aid and died agonizing deaths, some at gunpoint. Jones shot himself in the head.

Fast forward 42 years.

The opiate of the masses is still socialism, along with pot and, of course, opiates. When they’re not physiologically high, they’re emotionally high on promises of "equity" and "social justice," self-medicating themselves into a delirium that sounds good in theory (once you swallow the big bitter pill that people deserve something different than what they earn) but never works in practice.

True scale of North Korea's coronavirus deaths 'very likely exceeds imagination' and is being hidden to avoid embarrassing China, defector warns
[MAIL] North Korea is hiding the true devastation dealt to its people by coronavirus in a bid to spare China embarrassment, a senior defector has revealed.

The regime is also desperate to keep its death toll from the people, he said, and was terrified of the 'shockwaves' that would rock society if the real impact was known.

And the new hospital being built in Pyongyang is all part of the propaganda effort, he told the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK).

Kim Myong, who held a senior government role in North Korea, said it was 'absurd lies' to claim the country had no coronavirus cases and the true number 'very likely... exceeds imagination'.

Myong's insight follows hard upon recent speculation leader Kim Jong-un was himself 'gravely ill' after heart surgery, rumours since dismissed as untrue by officials in South Korea.

Speculation around the North Korean leader's health began when he was absent from a celebration of his grandfather's birthday on April 15, one of the biggest events of the year.

The claim about Kim Jong-un's ill health emerged in a report for a website run by North Korean defectors on April 21.

Economy
The world is far too dependent on China's medical supply chain
[Washington Examiner] Dozens of headlines over the past few weeks have confirmed an alarming fact: China’s medical supplies don’t work. Yet we continue to order them.

Canada’s public health authority is only the latest to announce that nearly one million KN95 respirators China had sent failed to meet health professionals’ standards. Spain’s health ministry had earlier announced that it is seeking compensation for 640,000 defective coronavirus tests that China had delivered. These tests were supposed to replace the old supply that Spain had purchased from China, which had also been defective.

This is the norm, not the exception, for Chinese goods. Australia, Britain, the Czech Republic, Finland, India, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Turkey, and several other countries have all purchased medical equipment from China that turned out to be defective. Yet China remains the world’s top medical supplier.

In the U.S., alone, China supplies more than 90% of our antibiotics and a large percentage of our biologics and FDA-approved medical devices, according to the American Enterprise Institute. Our dependence on China-sourced pharmaceuticals has gotten to the point where we can’t even produce our own penicillin.

China knows that this dependence is one of our greatest weaknesses, and it has already tried to exploit it. Xi Jinping’s regime began hoarding N95 respirators, booties, gloves, and other supplies produced by their factories, according to U.S health officials, and when confronted by the Trump administration, Xi threatened to cut off our supply of drugs and plunge the U.S. into "the mighty sea of the coronavirus."

It’s a shame that it took a global pandemic to expose that China is a manipulative and dishonest competitor that wants nothing more than to build up its position using force and our economic dependence. China's cheaply manufactured medical supplies are putting at risk the lives of doctors, nurses, and patients alike. So not only is this an economic catastrophe, it’s also a health hazard.

Hospitals Are Empty & Going Broke As Normal Healthcare has been Suspended
[ArmstrongEconomics] The lockdown was justified under the theory that Hospitals did not have the capacity to take care of the millions of people who would be struck down by the rapid coronavirus. All of that justification to lock down the nation never materialized. The ramifications have now turned to a denial of healthcare for the regular population and now doctors and medical staff are facing being laid off because normal health services are shut down. I personally could not even see a dentist because they were told to shut down by the American Dental Association.

Ironically, now hospitals are in danger of going bankrupt. We were told that we had to flatten the curve because there were not enough bed spaces. Then they did the subtle switch and the lockdown was justified until COVID-19 was eradicated. The interesting thing is how many institutions are sending us various materials because mainstream media will not cover it when it goes against their position of maintaining this lockdown. They are endangering our lives for political nonsense by refusing to report the truth.

Here is a letter
[in link]
from the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association to Governor Northam asking that these emergency orders preventing healthcare for normal people be terminated. Where the justification was to protect public health, this lockdown is now threatening public health and the leftist media refuses to report the truth.

#2  Sorry to hear, Glenmore. Know that you're not alone, and that -- unbelievable as it sounds -- it's even worse for thousands in NY, CA and many other states.

Cancer patients have had essential surgeries put off because they're not deemed "urgent." Others have died needless deaths because care and resources were diverted to try to prolong the lives of nonagenarians by a few months. Probably as many of the latter have actually been killed by the practice of stuffing ventilator tubes down their throats as have seen their lives briefly prolonged.

An age of madness, hysteria, unreason. Hang in there and hope with the rest of us that reason will prevail soon.

#3  JERUSALEM’S HERZOG Medical Center has joined other Israeli hospitals in converting some of their units into special inpatient divisions for cases of COVID 19. According to HMC spokeswoman Ayelet Mishor, the 160-bed underground section of HMC will be reserved for coronavirus patients. This total separation from the rest of the hospital will protect other patients and will enable HMC to easily absorb coronavirus patients from Beilinson, Sheba and Rambam Medical Centers.

CNN Moves Headquarters Underground After Trump Says The Sun Is Good
[Babylon Bee] Moments after Trump touted the benefits of sunlight at last night's press conference, CNN announced the news organization would be moving to an underground bunker.

The news company purchased a decommissioned Cold War bunker nearby. Frantic anchors and hosts scrambled to get underground as quickly as possible, not wanting to be associated with anything Trump said was good.

"If Trump says the sun is good, we're locking ourselves deep underground," said Brian Stelter, wiping tears from his eyes while saying goodbye to the world on the surface. "We urge all Americans to do the same. Sun bad! Sun bad!"

Don Lemon was the first to arrive, shoving several interns out of the way as he dove for the doors of the fallout shelter. "I hate Trump more than all of you! Ha!" he cried.

CNN has threatened not to come out until Trump is voted out of office, so we shouldn't see them for another 20-30 years. Luckily, the 100 feet of concrete above them prevents them from getting any news broadcasts out.

Trump Says To Drink Lots Of Water, Media Reports He Told Everyone To Drown Themselves
[Babylon Bee] At his press conference last night, President Trump told everyone to stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

"Water's tremendous, very powerful stuff," he said. "You won't believe the things they can do with water. Water balloons. Water slides. Water beds. It's amazing. You can freeze it and make ice, I'm told. Ice is great for lots of things. Ice cream. Ice cubes. Igloos."

"Anyway, drink water."

Horrified journalists scrambled to warn Americans not to drown themselves in their pools and bathtubs.

"Trump says water is good -- but this is very misleading," said Rachel Maddow. "Did you know that water kills many people every year? These dangerous, unhinged remarks from the president could cause many to drown themselves. Plus, do you know what's hidden in water? Sharks. This president wants you to die from a shark attack!"

Representatives for various bottled water companies quickly released a statement distancing themselves from the president's remarks and warning everyone not to submerge themselves in the ocean for minutes at a time.

For the curious, the Dihydrogen Monoxide FAQ can be found here, which includes a link to the Material Safety Data Sheet for the stuff.

Coronavirus Antibody Tests: Can You Trust the Results?
h/t Hot Air
[NYT] - A team of scientists worked around the clock to evaluate 14 antibody tests. A few worked as advertised. Most did not.
Surprise! Surprise! "act in haste, repent at leisure"
They set up lines of laboratory volunteers: medical residents, postdoctoral students, even experienced veterans of science, each handling a specific task. They checked and rechecked their data, as if the world were depending on it. Because in some ways, it is.

For the past few weeks, more than 50 scientists have been working diligently to do something that the Food and Drug Administration mostly has not: Verifying that 14 coronavirus antibody tests now on the market actually deliver accurate results.

These tests are crucial to reopening the economy, but public health experts have raised urgent concerns about their quality. The new research, completed just days ago and posted online Friday, confirmed some of those fears: Of the 14 tests, only three delivered consistently reliable results. Even the best had some flaws.

The research has not been peer-reviewed and is subject to revision. But the results are already raising difficult questions about the course of the epidemic.

Surveys of residents in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and New York this week found that substantial percentages tested positive for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the official name of the new coronavirus. In New York City, the figure was said to be as high as 21 percent. Elsewhere, it was closer to 3 percent.
Even 21% is not even close to "herd immunity"
The idea that many residents in some parts of the country have already been exposed to the virus has wide implications. At the least, the finding could greatly complicate plans to reopen the economy.

Already Americans are scrambling to take antibody tests to see if they might escape lockdowns. Public health experts are wondering if those with positive results might be allowed to return to work.

But these tactics mean nothing if the test results can’t be trusted.

In the new research, researchers found that only one of the tests never delivered a so-called false positive — that is, it never mistakenly signaled antibodies in people who did not have them.

Two other tests did not deliver false-positive results 99 percent of the time.

But the converse was not true. Even these three tests detected antibodies in infected people only 90 percent of the time, at best.

The false-positive metric is particularly important. The result may lead people to believe themselves immune to the virus when they are not, and to put themselves in danger by abandoning social distancing and other protective measures.

...Other scientists were less sanguine than Dr. Marson. Four of the tests produced false-positive rates ranging from 11 percent to 16 percent; many of the rest hovered around 5 percent.
There's a link in NYT that can be followed to the actual preprint. We don't know which particular tests were used in NYC and San Diego. But, 5% give 18% true positive in NYC and 0% true positive in San Diego (should've gotten at least 5% positive in San Diego)

#2  Actually, NYC probably used Chines made tests.

#3  These numbers don't seem all that surprising. The better tests sound kind of encouraging. Nothing is 100%, and you have to factor in lab handling errors too.

The scab & the wound beneath by Victor Davis Hanson
[The New Criterion] An overriding theme of the historian Thucydides’ monumental history of the Peloponnesian War (431–404 B.C.) is the fragility of civilization. In extremis, when both the elites and masses lose their thin veneer of culture, society can turn feral quickly. During a horrific war, plague, or revolution, even a wealthy and sophisticated civilization such as that of the classical Greek city-states regresses in a second to its innate state. And what follows from these natural and man-made disasters is not pretty. Still, these calamities can be tragically instructional. Hypocrisies arise. Pretexts vanish. Fundamental but forgotten truths, easily masked in times of calm, reemerge. From Thucydides’ warnings, we can glean that even suburban elites in Range Rovers can in a day be reduced to tugging over toilet paper rolls at Whole Foods.

During the twenty-seven-year-long Peloponnesian War, Athens, the most liberal and confident of some 1,500 Greek city-states, proved the readiest to butcher prisoners and civilians. And it did so en masse at Mytilene, Scione, and Melos. Thucydides noted that during the plague of 430–29, the most virtuous of Athenians (“especially the case with such as made any pretensions to goodness”) perished along with the selfish. Indeed, their courage in abandoning social distancing to aid the infectious sealed their doom (“honor made them unsparing of themselves in their attendance in their friends’ houses”).

Throughout the savage revolution on the island of Corcyra (Corfu), honesty of language and moderation in politics were among the first casualties. And once the violence and body count mounted, extremism in thought and action followed:
