-Short Attention Span Theater-
People's Republic - book review
[Google Books] America's growing political and cultural divisions have finally split the United States apart. Now, as the former blue states begin to collapse under the dead weight of their politically correct tyranny, a lethal operative haunted by his violent past undertakes one last mission to infiltrate and take out his target in the nightmarish city of Los Angeles, deep in the heart of the People's Republic of North America. National Review's Jim Geraghty calls Kurt Schlichter's "People's Republic" "a surreal, fast-paced journey through a dramatically different America but less than a generation away. ... Violent, imaginative, full of mordant humor and dark, gritty details, you won't want to live in this People's Republic...but you'll feel a chill as you wonder how different our real future will be." Author and television host Cam Edwards says "Kurt Schlichter's 'People's Republic' is a roller coaster ride through a post-election Hellscape that will leave you wanting more." Radio host Hugh Hewitt say "Schlichter puts a whole flight of Black Swans in the air --each of them plausible-- and the result is a riveting, page-turner, and a demand from Schlichter for...more." "People's Republic" is the first novel by Kurt Schlichter, a retired Army infantry colonel, a conservative radio and television commentator on the Fox networks and elsewhere, a Senior Columnist at Townhall, com, and a popular and hilarious Twitter raconteur. He's also a trial lawyer, so he has an intimate understanding of evil and deception. Radio host and commentator Ben Shapiro calls "People's Republic "chilling," and author and columnist David Limbaugh calls it "a thought-provoking action thriller set against the backdrop of a shattered America." Fox News contributor and author Katie Pavlich says, "They say conservatives are terrible story tellers, but Kurt Schlichter destroys that stereotype in his new novel People's Republic and issues a dire warning about the future of America." As with his prior book "Conservative Insurgency: The Struggle to Take America Back 2013-2041," "People's Republic" takes today's news and projects the trends out into the future. Funny, frightening and action-packed, "People's Republic" is a thriller that will make you think as well as keep you turning the pages.

About the author: Kurt Schlichter is a trial lawyer, and a retired Army infantry colonel with a degree from the Army War College who writes twice a week as a Senior Columnist for Townhall.com. Kurt was personally recruited by Andrew Breitbart in 2009 to write for Big Hollywood. He is often on the air as a news source, an on-screen commentator, and as a guest on nationally syndicated radio programs discussing political, military and legal issues, including Fox News, HLN, CNN, and the Hugh Hewitt Show, among others. He appears weekly on the Cam and Company Show with his own brand of caring conservative cultural commentary. His previous book "Conservative Insurgency: The Struggle to Take America Back 2009-2041" was released in 2014 from Post Tree PressAs a stand-up comic for several years, he has gathered a large and devoted following in the world of social media for his amusing and often biting conservative commentary. He is an active user of Twitter (@KurtSchlichter) with over 75,000 followers.Kurt is also a successful trial lawyer based in the Los Angeles area representing companies and individuals in matters ranging from routine business cases to confidential Hollywood and entertainment industry disputes and transactions. A member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which recognizes attorneys who have won verdicts in excess of $1 million, his litigation strategy and legal analysis articles regularly run in such legal publications such as California Lawyer. Kurt is a 1994 graduate of Loyola Law School, where he was a law review editor.

He majored in Communications and Political Science as an undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego, where he also edited the conservative student paper California Review while writing a regular column in the student humor paper the Koala. He also drank a lot of Coors. Kurt rose to the rank of Army infantry colonel on active duty and in the California Army National Guard. He wears the silver "jump wings" of a qualified paratrooper and commanded the elite 1st Squadron, 18th Cavalry Regiment. A veteran of both the Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom (Kosovo), as well as the Los Angeles riots, the Northridge earthquake and the 2007 San Diego fires mobilizations, he is a graduate of the Army's Combined Arms Staff Service School, the Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College, where he received a master of Strategic Studies degree.

‘In the Old America, This Would Provoke an Uprising'
[American Thinker] No stranger to hypocrisy, Hillary Clinton set a breathtaking new standard with her denunciation of convicted meme jokester Douglass Mackey. The context was an April 2023 discussion with former House speaker Nancy Pelosi at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, where Hillary is reportedly a professor.

"Democracy requires at least a minimal level of trust," said Hillary with the semblance of a straight face. "So if we are going to turn our politics over to people who — maybe just for the heck of it — are making up stuff to misrepresent leaders, or maybe because they know they can achieve it if they do, then where does this stop?"

Mackey’s crime was to pass along a meme he found online titled, "Save Time, Avoid the Line." This meme, said Hillary, who knows something about election subversion, "went from speech to action meant to subvert the election." Graced with a picture of a smiling Hillary, the meme then directed readers to text their vote to a given number. Try as hard as they might, prosecutors could not find not a single one of the "thousands of people" Hillary claimed to have been affected by this transparent joke.

"He was one of the main people running memes against me in 2016," said Hillary. Mackey was no such thing. A 27-year-old Middlebury College grad living in New York City at the time, Mackey was an unconnected and unpaid Trump-supporter. He tweeted under the handle "Ricky Vaughn," the Charlie Sheen "Wild Thing" character in the baseball comedy Major League.

Although Mackey did not take himself seriously, the Biden DOJ obviously did. Seven days after the 2021 inauguration, more than four years after the purported crime, ten law enforcement officers, four of them FBI, made an unannounced 7 A.M. visit at his residence and led Mackey away in handcuffs. It was not until his arraignment that he had the slightest idea what he was being accused of doing.

In March 2023, Mackey was convicted by a federal jury in Brooklyn of the charge of "Conspiracy Against Rights stemming from his scheme to deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote." The DOJ boasted of the conviction and alerted other online comics that Mackey "faces a maximum of 10 years in prison." In October, he was sentenced to a seemingly merciful seven months.

Britain
The Barbarians Are Inside the Gates
[PJ] This weekend marked Armistice Day in Great Britain and Veterans Day in the United States. Both are somber days typically marked by honor and respect for symbols of the country and the men and women who have sacrificed so much for them. Instead, both London and New York City featured terrorist supporters marching en masse through the centers of the West, proclaiming their sovereignty.

Marxist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre once blustered that the West was so guilty for its colonization that the best path would be to be colonized in reverse: "It's our turn to tread the path, step by step, which leads down to native level. But to become natives altogether, our soil must be occupied by a formerly colonized people and we must starve of hunger. This won't happen."

Sartre, obviously, was wrong. He, along with his like-minded and soft-headed colleagues, helped to discredit the West so thoroughly that the West spent decades importing millions of people who despise it.

And so London this weekend saw radical Muslims threatening the open annihilation of Jews. It saw home-grown or imported radicals wearing the headgear of terrorist group Hamas. It saw them attempting to mob the current Secretary of State for Housing Michael Gove. At least 150 people were arrested. But there were 300,000 marching in solidarity with a terrorist group.

#1  Well now, THAT explains it all. Good 'ol JP. They're coming here to colonize! They got their work cut out for them.

The roads are a mess, taxes are crazy-insane, the electric grid is a practical joke, law enforcement is, uh, situational, urban life is short and random, and whatever you do for the love of God...don't go to a MacDonald's in the wrong part of town.

Not entirely certain the 'colonizers' are up to the task. Of course 'ol JP was primarily an idea man. Who can forget him taking notes on his own diatribe during the marathon 8 hour meeting with John Huston about a script for Moby Dick. At least we dodged a cinematic bullet there.

Economy
M2 Money Supply Down Significantly = Capital for Investment Drying Up
[MotlleyFool] U.S. Money Supply Is Doing Something Not Seen Since the Great Depression, and a Big Move in Stocks May Follow

There have only been five notable declines in M2 money supply dating back more than a century. Prior dips have signaled deflationary downturns in the U.S. economy.

#2  Deflation and disinflation are two economic terms that are often used interchangeably, but they have different meanings. Deflation is a general drop in **price levels** in an economy, which means that the **inflation rate falls below zero** and prices generally decline throughout an economy ¹. Disinflation, on the other hand, is a decrease in the **rate of inflation**. It occurs when the **inflation rate falls but remains positive**. In disinflation, prices continue to increase but at a slower rate than before ¹.

To put it simply, deflation is a situation where prices are falling, while disinflation is a situation where prices are still rising, but at a slower pace than before. Deflation can be harmful to an economy because it can cause a spiral of reduced economic activity. Central banks will fight deflation by expanding the monetary base and lowering interest rates ¹. Disinflation, on the other hand, is not harmful to the economy because the inflation rate is reduced marginally over a short-term period ¹.

I hope this helps!

#5  For some of this, it has been baked into the equation for a very long time. The boomers and their 401ks and such were the biggest supply of investment capital. Well, they retired with the largest chunk happening during 2021-2022 and when that happens the investment portfolio is liquidated and turned into bonds and other safe investments for retirement. We are no longer in the era of cheep capital.

What is left is being sucked into the building up of infrastructure for things the US needs as we are decoupling from China and that makes things inflationary.

On top of that, with Biden's horrible mismanagement of the economy and energy has caused more inflation on people that would normally invest and they aren't adding to the money supply in any real meaningful way.

Which means you have the perfect storm of 13% interest rates with 7% inflation and a deflation of your actual wealth for the next decade.

#8  Yes, M2 is going down, and yes, normally this would dry up capital and normally cause a recession.

However, these are not normal times. The decline in M2 should be viewed against the backdrop of the explosion of M2 in 2020, which is still out there.

Europe
The war in Gaza showed the collapse of the structures on which Europe was built
[Regnum, ALEXANDER KARGIN, Google translate]
Almost every day in Europe there are demonstrations in support of Palestine, which attract from several hundred to several hundred thousand people. In this they differ markedly from pro-Israeli rallies, which are less common and, in general, clearly smaller in number.

However, the most interesting thing is who directly flies Palestinian flags in Europe. In general, participants can be divided into two groups.

Firstly, these are people from North Africa and the Middle East, as well as from Muslim countries in general.

For the most part, these are either migrants or descendants of migrants in the first or second generations. These people have not assimilated, European values are alien to them, and some European features cause exceptionally outright rejection. They have demonstrated their dissatisfaction before, but now everything has reached a qualitatively new level.

In this regard, it is important to understand that the story with the Palestinians and Israelis is a pretext, but the essence is the clash of "old" and "new" Europe.

The reason will change, but sooner or later another will arise - and riots will begin again. However, even without a reason, with current trends, Europe is doomed to a large-scale "conflagration" on national and religious grounds.

You may ask a reasonable question: what were the Europeans thinking when they brought in so many people with a fundamentally different socio-cultural background?

The answer is that European politicians often truly believed in the concept of multiculturalism.

...The idea failed, making European leaders hostage to a situation they themselves created.

There is no doubt that most EU politicians would now like to support Israel as much as possible, but the pressure of the "new Europe" prevents them from doing so. At the same time, as I wrote above, in the future Europe will most likely face a full-fledged civil confrontation.

...The second group of participants are various kinds of left-wing activists, including representatives of the LGBT community, feminists, and so on. Their motivation is connected with the modern understanding in the West of the leftist idea: the fight for all the "oppressed" or those who, according to the "manual," are considered oppressed.

At the same time, left-wing figures are actively trying to turn a blind eye to the obvious dissonance.

Thus, gay pride parades are regularly held in Tel Aviv, and in the Palestinian territories people are also regularly killed for homosexuality. For example, just recently in the West Bank, a Palestinian whose relatives found out that he was gay had his head cut off.

A separate problem is that conflicts constantly arise between different groups of "oppressed" people.

You don’t have to look far for examples: at the same demonstrations in support of Palestine, people from the Middle East regularly beat up all kinds of LGBT activists.

...To summarize, we can state that the street reaction of the Old World to the events in the Middle East revealed the complete collapse of the structures on which old Europe was based in recent decades.

We are talking about both the complete failure of migration policy and the approaching bankruptcy of Western left-liberal discourse, which even internally contradicts itself.
Weimar kaput! Oh what, what comes now?

Home Front: WoT
Mutiny on the Biden
How bad is it getting for President Biden? Let's check this out:
Four hundred government officials from 40 departments and agencies within President Biden's administration signed a letter opposing the president's handling of the Israel-Hamas war and demanded a cease-fire.

The Tuesday letter, first reported by the New York Times, includes officials from the State Department, White House, National Security Council and the Justice Department. The signatories of the letter remained anonymous to protect against professional retaliation.

"We call on President Biden to urgently demand a cease-fire; and to call for de-escalation of the current conflict by securing the immediate release of the Israeli hostages and arbitrarily detained Palestinians; the restoration of water, fuel, electricity and other basic services; and the passage of adequate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip," the letter reads, in part.

Talk about an internal problem? And the pretty part of the story is that they remain anonymous so that they can keep their jobs or avoid press questions. Talk about a bunch of weak bureaucrats.

The larger problem is that the Gaza conflict is tearing the Democrat Party apart. This is from Joel Kotkin:

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas Says All The AK-47s Found In Gaza Hospital Were Strictly For Medicinal Use
[Bee] GAZA — As reports began to come out that Israeli Defense Forces had discovered a Hamas weapons depot hidden in a Gaza children's hospital, a spokesman for Hamas was adamant that all of the AK-47s found in the hospital were for medicinal use only.

"These were clearly medical machine guns," said Ali Mohammed Al Mohammed. "By confiscating these weapons, they are depriving sick children of the life-saving medical care that these rifles, rockets, and bombs provide. Only people who are truly heartless would take these weapons away from children who are ill. Death to Israel, thank you."

As Israel continues to receive a mixture of support and criticism for its ongoing offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the discovery of a cache of weapons in a children's hospital was a sobering reminder of what the IDF is up against. When pressed on the matter, the Hamas spokesman refused to admit the weapons stockpile was for use in the war. "Don't be ridiculous," Mohammed said. "The weapons were clearly labeled ‘Surgical AK-47s and Explosives.'"

"Why would we hide our weapons in a building with innocent children? That's ridiculous! We only allow essential, life-saving therapeutic weapons in the children's hospital. We're not monsters. Glory to the blood-soaked martyrs. Thank you."

At publishing time, Hamas had sent a formal request to have all of the weapons returned to them immediately. "We really need them back," Mohammed said. "And by ‘we,' I mean the sick children, of course. Yes, not referring to ourselves, the vengeful mujahideen. Totally the sick children."

During an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a stark message on Monday evening, cautioning Europeans and Americans about the potential consequences if the IDF doesn’t completely eliminate Hamas.

"We have to win not only for our sake but for the sake of the Middle East, for the sake of our Arab neighbors," Netanyahu said. "You know what, for the sake of Gazans who've been held by this dark tyranny that has brutalized and brought them nothing but bloodshed and poverty and misery. We have to win to protect Israel. We have to win to safeguard the Middle East. We have to win for the sake of the civilized world. That's the battle we're fighting, and it's being waged right now. There is no substitute for that victory."

"If we don’t win now, then Europe is next and you’re next," Netanyahu warned. "And we have to win."

"We have to have the forces of civilization beat these barbarians because otherwise this barbarism will spread and will endanger the entire world," Netanyahu said. "Every American, every civilized country will be under peril. We have to win. There is no substitute for victory. Total victory."

According to Netanyahu, the "axis of terror," which consists of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen, and other "minions" of Iran, aims to "bring the Middle East, the world back to the Dark Ages. And on the other side stands Israel, the modern Arab states, of course the United States, all the forces that want to see peace, prosperity for the Middle East and for the world. And that's the battle that is being waged right now."

#1  I would love to see Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned in the future in the same breath as Gen. Sherman.
