HINGHAM - Police plan to charge the mother of a Hingham High School student with providing alcohol to a group of teens found partying at her home on Beal Street.
Police who answered noise complaints at the home of Robin Chamberlain the night of Nov. 9 said they found 19 teens partying and drinking. As many as 20 others fled when police arrived, said Lt. Michael Peraino.
Police found teenagers standing in the driveway and saw several jumping out of a second-floor window, Peraino said.
He said Chamberlain was not home, and her teenage daughter let police into the house.
Inside, teens were running up and down stairs. There were empty alcohol containers littering the back deck and one youth was running from the house with two cases of beer.
Chamberlain arrived home while police were still there, Peraino said.
Officers were very concerned about her apparent lack of concern over the incident, because she kept telling the kids that they did nothing wrong and their behavior was normal, Peraino said.
While police were there, Chamberlain told teens that the officers didnt know what they were doing. She told her daughter that she was aware of what she was doing and that it was OK and normal, that she had done nothing wrong, and that she was not in any trouble, Peraino said.
He said Chamberlain told the officers that she loved all the children and had no concerns about them being there and having alcohol at the house.
Chamberlain will be summonsed to Hingham District Court where she will be charged with furnishing alcohol to minors and keeping a noisy or disorderly house.
Peraino said police also contacted the Department of Social Services to file a report of suspected child abuse.
Reached by phone yesterday, Chamberlain would not talk about the charges. Theres been enough written about this, she said.

I heard about a witty police chief that made a deal with the local power company. When a party became too loud or unruly, they would shut off the power to that house.
The police would not confront the party-goers directly at any time. Instead, they figured out where all the road exits were and set up small roadblocks with DUI checkpoints. Then they would process out each automobile, to make sure the driver wasn't drunk, and that there were no underage drunks.
The alternative would be to hang out in a quiet, dark, either too hot or too cold house for several hours until the police left.
It took a fraction of the number of cops, nobody got beaten up, pepper sprayed, tasered or shot, and the offending party was definitely over.

Where I went to school (SDSU) they had draconic measures called the College Area Party Plan in which they confiscated stereo or band equipment if they got a number of anonymous complaints. I'm sure it was unconstitutional but most kids kept the volume down lest they end up fighting to get their own property back for the rest of the semester.
Where was the ACLU? Probably fighting for Nambla the bastards.

Where I live, shutting off power to a single house while leaving the rest of the neighborhood powered is not easy. The power meter can be pulled out of its socket, or the meter can be switched off, but someone has to walk up to the house to do that. The supply at the nearest pole has a switch, but it's accessible only by cherry-picker truck. Were it easier to do, shutting off the power to a single house is a great idea for this kind of problem. Maybe electrical systems elsewhere are wired differently.

First Daughter Barbara Bush had her purse and cell phone stolen as she had dinner in a restaurant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, even though she was being guarded by a detail of Secret Service agents, according to law enforcement reports made available to ABC News.
It was not the only mishap on the two-week trip to Argentina by Barbara (right) and her twin sister Jenna (left). A Secret Service agent on the advance detail got into an "altercation" with someone after a night out and was badly beaten, according to the law enforcement reports. The Secret Service said today the incident was an attempted mugging that occurred while the agent was on his own time. The agent is doing fine.
The purse snatching took place on Barbara's first night in town while she was dining in the picturesque San Telmo neighborhood. According to the reports, the Secret Service agents failed to notice the incident.

Not buying that. Those guys (SS) set their watches by each other, they 'handoff' assignments to protect their overlap even during sleep times. The only place they won't go is in the ladies room, unless an agent is female. My guess is, that the mugging happened so quickly, the perpetrators vanished into the crowds. However I am surprised to hear the agent got his ass kicked...I thought they all were proficient in kung-fu, or jujitsu and could hand you your eyeballs?! And what about those uzi submachine guns they all carry??

Lets hope it was just a simple purse snatch. Imagine the numbers and other stuff you could get from her phone and purse. The internal numbers to the white house and everyone of importance on her phone will have to be change, to include any other data that might be there. This was a dumb mistake by some soon to be unemployed secret service agents. If they could have gotten to her purse they certainly could have killed her.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (Reuters) - A fugitive wanted for a double homicide in Arkansas was arrested on the weekend in Wisconsin after he posted his name, picture and address on an online dating Web site, police said on Monday. Calvin A. Bennett, 26, has been charged with two counts of murder in the killings of Pierce Odell, 79, and his wife, Mary, 78, who were found shot to death on October 30 outside their home in Nashville, Arkansas, about 125 miles southwest of the state capital Little Rock.
"He was taken into custody shortly before noon on Sunday, less than 12 hours after his picture was broadcast on (the television show) 'America's Most Wanted,'" said Bill Sadler, a spokesman for the Arkansas State Police. Sadler said that people who had first seen his picture on the dating site had subsequently seen it on the popular television program.
On Monday Bennett was ordered held without bond in Wisconsin pending an extradition hearing on December 19. An affidavit submitted by the authorities said Bennett had confessed to killing the Odells during a botched burglary.
One of the messages on Bennett's Web posting said he "liked to cuddle."

Related online stupid people tricks: Seattle vice police have arrested several men trolling the 'Craigslist' escort section. 'escort' is Craigslist-speak for hookers, and they got popped; obviously a 'botched' pickup.
A vehicle reportedly hit a house in the University Avenue area of the city this morning, trapping a male in the vehicle.
The accident, at 316 Pennsylvania Ave., occurred when the driver, a 29-year-old man, was unable to stop his vehicle and reportedly opened the door of his car to stop it with his foot., said Rural Metro ambulance service spokesman John Halldow.

This is an effort to justify PETAs anti-fishing efforts, because fish are just like people and have hopes and dreams and just want to be left alone to eat each other instead of having evil, cruel, unnatural humans eat them.
Of course, PETA is now trying to figure a way to get all predators, including fish, to just eat tofu, which is better for them.

I raised pheasants once and I can tell you some really opportunistic behavior among the dominant cock birds. We called the dominant male Joe. Joe would stalk us while we were feeding them and changing their water. One time, I captured Joe and hypnotized him like you do a chicken. I released him, and he began to make his way back to his throne area. The lesser terratorial birds began to attack him as he was sneaking along. When he reached his area, his lieutenants drove off the pursuers. As soon as he recovered, he backtracked through the hostile zone trying to act disinterested. Not a one of them got within ten feet of him.

A 92-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday after she fired at three narcotics officers trying to serve a warrant at her house, officials said. Neighbors and relatives said it must have been a case of mistaken identity. Police said they had the right address.
Police said the woman, whose name was not released, was the only person home at the time, and had lived there for about 17 years.
As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., a woman inside started shooting, striking each of them, said Officer Joe Cobb, a police spokesman. One was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder. The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all three were conscious and alert, police said.
Sarah Dozier, identified as a niece of the woman, told WAGA-TV that there were never any drugs at the house. "My aunt was in good health. I'm sure she panicked when they kicked that door down," Dozier said. "There was no reason they had to go in there and shoot her down like a dog." Good shot. The question is the "as ... they approached" vs. "they kicked that door down"... somebody's spinning for dollar$, methinks

She had the right idea, but used the wrong caliber. Being narcos, they probably just came up and started battering the door unannounced. That's why homeowners need a nice pump 12 gauge where they can grab it right quick. Load with 00, go for head shots. I guarantee whoever is coming in will be going back out pronto.

If these Narcotics officers got the wrong house, or faulty intel, they are in serious trouble. Hell, even if they did get the right house they are still in serious trouble if they just started banging the door down. Shooting a 92 year-old woman who probably thought she was enacting self-defense is not the way to keep your job.

More police departments are seriously reviewing their door-smash policies, because cops are so overdoing it that even the general public is starting to get pissed.
Even minor warrants on non-violent offenders are getting door-smash approvals, more out of convenience, than any real need.
One I heard about locally was based on a bench warrant for a few outstanding traffic tickets. The policeman said that the suspect was refusing to answer the door. The suspect was on vacation. After the cop smashed the door, he left, which resulted in the suspects apartment being looted.
When he called the police to report the burglary, they then arrested him. Then they discovered that he was a different guy with the same name as the traffic ticket scofflaw.
Last but not least, that was the second time they had smashed his door. The first time was on a drug raid, which had the wrong apartment number.

In Mississippi you get the death penalty if you kill a narc busting into your house in the middle of the night, even if it's the wrong house. At least/especially if the dead cop is politically connected.

Nope! This crap happens more than people realize, and it is usually kept rather quite. Every year a lot of people get gunned down by LE doing no-knock extreme entries at the wrong place.
LE can be the Feds, State and Local police. And they have been increasing the number of extreme entries over the years. It is a practice that needs to be curtailed, 90% of the time it is not necessary.

Too many ifs, ands or buts in this this story. If the narcs didn't announce, it was a rip gone bad. As for "never any drugs at the house", someone had to swear to the warrant. Also 00 with a 12 guage inside a building, not a good idea. There's a reason for it, they still have killing power after going through walls. No telling if some innocent is on the other side.
GIGO. Garbage In, Garbage Out. Cops routinely use Confidential Informants, and other unsavory types as the basis for swearing out a warrant. And mistakes happen all the time.

I was a cop for ten years. I'm about as pro-law enforcement as you can get. I know what these guys face. Having said that, my opinion is tempered by the fact that many cops have no business wearing a badge.
Case in point: While I was out of town on a Network project in 2004, My wife called me in hysterics. The police had shown up at 2:00 am looking for a person who my wife only KNEW. She said she hadn't seen her in months. The police ordered her to step outside. She refused, being clothed only in her bathrobe, and it being an unlawful and unreasonable order with no legal basis. They GRABBED her arm and forcibly pulled her out of her own house, causing swelling and bruising on her arm.
We filed a complaint with the Internal Affiars division of the Police Dept. It went nowhere. They sent us a nice cute letter telling us that the officers had acted in "good faith" and believed my wife might be a hostage and her life was in danger. Bullshit. These types of abuses are becoming all too common. There's a little thing called the Constitution of the United States. Those who abuse it should go to jail, badge or no badge.

If you read any of the NRA magazines section The Armed Citizen, you'll find that yes, alot of elderly do keep their guns by them wherever they are in their homes because of home invasions. Quite a few perps get a nasty shock when grandma or grandpa pulls out a gun when they come busting through the door.
But I agree, something about this stinks to high heaven. Normally when you see something like this, the police like to point out how many pounds of drugs they found and how many weapons were in the house. Instead there's nothing, which leads me to suspect either they had the wrong place or wrong intel and this old woman died for no reason.

The serving of a "no-knock" warrant is about as routine as an execution by firing squad, especially if you're on the receiving end. Anyone with enough muscle and the right tools can smash a hole into your house and claim they're a police officer. "Routine"?

A Muslim man who was so hungry while fasting during Ramazan that he killed a swan to eat was jailed for two months at a court in Britain on Wednesday.
Shamsu Mian (52) killed the mute swan at a boating pond in Llandudno on September 25 only the second day of fasting in Britain.
All mute swans in Britain belong to the sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, a historical quirk dating from the 12th century.
When challenged by police, Mian said, "I am a Muslim, I am fasting, I needed to eat." Llandudno Magistrates Court heard that Mian had blood on his shirt and white feathers in his beard.
Prosecutor Jim Neary said, "When interviewed he said, 'I was hungry, I had to eat the swan so I killed it, I stabbed it. I did nothing wrong, it was just a bird, I needed to eat'."
"The officers told him the swan was the property of the queen and he replied, 'I hate the queen, I hate this country'."
Judge Andrew Shaw told Mian, "You killed a swan at night. It was a cruel and reprehensible act. I don't know how it died; there seems to be some speculation that you bit it, but I accept you killed it with a knife. It is a taboo act and the only sentence I can pass is one of imprisonment."
Miah had pleaded guilty to intentionally killing a wild bird and possessing a bladed article.

An ombudsman in Russias northern province of Komi is set to sue the pop group T.A.T.U. as he seeks compensation for damage allegedly inflicted on the disabled by the duo who have titled one of their songs Lyudi Invalidy or Invalid People.
According to a report by the KomiOnline web site the move had been initiated by the Disabled People Society from the Komi capital city Syktyvkar. Representatives of the society hold that the song title can be construed as a public insult from both the pop group members and their producer.
The ombudsman said the defendants could also face criminal charges for libel. But even if the court refuses to uphold libel charges against T.A.T.U. the singers will have to compensate society for moral damages, he said.

Leading German lawmakers demanded a crackdown on violent computer and simulated war games on Tuesday over concerns that they may have helped inspire a young man to attack his former school with guns and explosives.
The masked 18-year-old man stormed the Scholl secondary school on Monday in the western German town of Emsdetten, wounding as many as 27 people before committing suicide.
The young man, identified only as Bastian B., was known to authorities and due in court on Tuesday for weapons violations, local police said. According to German media reports, he had a fondness for war simulation and computer games.
Wolfgang Bosbach, the deputy head of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) in parliament, said it was time to consider banning games that simulate wanton killing. "We need effective guidelines to protect children from exposure to different types of media, but we don't need (simulated) killer games that can lead to brutalization," Bosbach was quoted on the Netzeitung news Web site as saying.
Bosbach added that scientific studies have shown violent games have disturbing effects on some children. What kind of studies? Scientific studies. Wow, well okaaay then.
Christa Stewens, family minister for the conservative-led state of Bavaria, called for a nationwide ban on war games like paintball and laser tag, in which players hunt down and pretend to kill each other with guns firing paint balls or laser beams.
"The federal government must finally ban (simulated) killer games... Bavaria has had such a ban in place since 2002," Stewens said in a statement. She added that children should also be prevented from playing violent computer games.
The federal government has so far refused to ban such games.
The opposition Greens warned against banning violent computer and war games. Volker Beck, a leading Greens member of parliament, said it would be better to focus the debate on the proper use of computers and not jump to conclusions before it was clear what motivated Bastian B. In addition to retailers claiming an inordinate number of lottery wins, CBC News has learned that Ontario's lottery corporation has also been battling problems related to instant scratch tickets.
Internal data from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. indicate that at one point retailers and clerks claimed wins on scratch tickets 10 per cent of the time, The Fifth Estate has learned as part of an ongoing probe.
Last month it was revealed that in the past seven years Ontario clerks and retailers have claimed lottery victories nearly 200 times. University of Toronto statistician Jeffery Rosenthal said statistically the number should have been closer to 57, and was a statistical anomaly nearly impossible to achieve.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to remove from the wild an endangered Mexican gray wolf that has killed livestock in southwestern New Mexico. The agency announced Tuesday that it has issued a permanent removal order for the male wolf – identified as M859 lovely name – because it has been involved in three confirmed livestock depredations since June. The order means that wildlife managers will try to either capture the animal or kill it. If the wolf is taken alive, it will be taken by the RAB to recover its cache placed in captivity and will not be released into the wild.
The Fish and Wildlife Service began releasing wolves on the Arizona-New Mexico border in 1998 to re-establish the species in part of its historic range. Many ranchers have been vocal opponents of the effort because of livestock depredation. "While permanent removal orders may be perceived as a step back in reintroduction efforts, removing problem wolves is an integral part of wolf management and actually helps create an environment supporting future wolf releases," Benjamin Tuggle, director of the agency's southwestern region, said in a statement.
The agency has designated the wolves as a "nonessential, experimental population," allowing more flexibility in managing them – including removal by capture or killing if an animal has been involved in at least three livestock deaths in a year. Bummer of an assignment. "Hey, darling, I've been designated as "nonessential" by the government." That won't work as a pick-up line.
A Mississippi mayor has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor weapons charges after carrying a handgun on church and school property, and a gun rights group thinks now would be a good time for him to step down from Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG). Jackson Mayor Frank Melton, a Democrat, pleaded guilty Nov. 15 to the misdemeanors to avoid felony charges that would have cost him his job. Instead of jail time, he was fined $1,500 and put on a year's probation. Lawrence Keane, director of the gun rights lobbying group National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), on Tuesday called Melton a "hypocrite" for violating gun laws while maintaining membership in MAIG.
MAIG is a coalition of American mayors headed by New York Republican-In-Name-Only Michael Bloomberg. On its website, the group says it "respect[s] the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns" and that their "only interest is in fighting crime." The organization supports harsher penalties for criminals who use firearms and seeks to punish gun dealers who knowingly sell guns to so-called "straw purchasers." It also supported the idiotic California (that's redundant, isn't it?) bill for stamping serial numbers on bullets. And it supports civil lawsuits against gun dealers for "causing crime." In a letter to Bloomberg obtained by Cybercast News Service, Keane called for Melton's "immediate resignation" as mayor and urged Bloomberg to "follow the lead of the firearms industry and demand Mayor Melton resign from public office." Keane also urged Bloomberg to bar Melton from participation in MAIG activities, saying that "his criminal conduct stands in stark contrast to the MAIG's purported goal of reducing gun crime in America."
In an e-mail statement, Bloomberg spokeswoman Virginia Lam said that "instead of mounting a public relations campaign to take down a tough opponent of self-defense illegal guns" -- a reference to Melton -- "the NSSF should be working with us to help disarm victims keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals."
Lam told Cybercast News Service that "no one is above the law" but did not comment specifically on Melton's plea or on what, if any, action MAIG will take against him. A spokesman for Melton did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday. Jackson City Council leaders contacted Tuesday were unwilling to talk about Melton's guilty plea. Last week, council President Ben Allen was quoted by Jackson's Clarion-Ledger as saying the city government "will not miss a beat" regardless of the outcome of the case.
According to The Hill newspaper, Melton created a stir in the U.S. Capitol in July when he received credentials that would have allowed him to carry a firearm in the building, a privilege normally reserved only for active-duty police officers. The Hill reported that Melton is known for carrying a firearm with him at all times, including on commercial airline flights and in accompanying Jackson police during crime-fighting efforts.
