The decisive word in this matter belongs to the German authorities, who, according to Der Spiegel, also intend to join the supply after lengthy disputes in the country's government. According to the publication, one company (14 vehicles) of Leopard 2A6 tanks will be transferred as part of the first batch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Scholz decided to send a company of Leopard 2A6 tanks (14 pieces) to Kiev.
The Fritz raised their heads again, nothing changes. Not surprising. In Ukraine, the Anglo-Saxons are playing all-in and will raise the stakes to the last Ukrainian, Pole, German, until the war affects the territory of the United States and Britain.
Our guys will burn their tanks, shoot videos and distribute them to the whole world. Very good advertisement. The Americans will not deliver their Abrams. They promise, but find a reason not to deliver.

[ColonelCassad] The United States officially announced the delivery of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, as well as 8 recovery vehicles. All this will be formed into a tank battalion and they plan to use the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the counteroffensive during the spring-summer campaign. Among the declared goals is the capture of the Crimea.
Somewhat earlier, the German Foreign Minister stated that Europe is at war with Russia.
The probability that there will be no new wave of mobilization in the country is somewhere around zero. The stakes continue to rise, and the likelihood of an expected remake of the Caribbean Crisis increases.
Against this background, good news comes from the front - our marines have broken through the front near Ugledar and are already fighting in the city itself. The 72nd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could not withstand the blow and rolled.

So basically
WE THE US Taxpayers are funding the Ukraine war and selling them the US Military Industrial Complex weaponry,
Which they are buying using US TAXPAYER $$$$$.
Doesn't this sound like a $$$$ laundering scheme?
Where, certain people are becoming $$$$ rich filling their pockets by shuffling $$$$ around, as the USA goes deeper & deeper in debt ?

The Abrams will come out of mothball storage and will most likely be the M1A1 or the M1A2. The US still lists part of it as Top Secret, so parts will have to be stripped off and sanitized for export. On top of that headache, they will have to build out infrastructure for the repair of the tanks in Ukraine as the turbine engine is so different than the diesel the Leopard and Russian tanks use. On top of that Ukrainian mechanics will need to be trained to service the tank as well as new tankers will be trained on a tank that is so much different than their old Soviet ones it will be like a fighter pilot learning to fly a UFO.
So at the earliest we could see Abrams at the front in fall. Leopards will be there sooner as the support and supply network is already in place in Poland and is easy to build slightly forward to Ukraine.
M-60s have the 105mm main gun and can't upgrade as the turret is too small. In addition to that its armor isn't up to going toe to toe with more modern tanks. Really isn't worth the effort. Especially with nearly 3,000 Abrams in storage for the US. Cheaper for us to do some PMS, strip off the stuff we don't want falling into the wrong hands and sending them overseas rather than scrapping them.

Just seem to remember them holding their own in Desert Storm. Latest Iraqi armor at the time IIRC was T-72?
That was a while back though; upgrades since then probably greater than upgrades to the 60.
For the record, I think this is all a bad idea, but I agree just getting Abrams within shooting distance is going to be a nightmare. Was thinking of something closer to the locals' experience and maybe easier to maintain than the specialized parts of an Abrams.
Obviously Ukraine is not desert, and does nobody good if a 60 is easily whallopped by current weapons and platforms. Not happy about the Bradleys either as it seems IFVs on both sides are really taking it and has similar logistic/training bottlenecks.
Problem is decisions being made by people who think farming is making a little hole, putting a seed in it, and adding some water from time to time.

Not so sure DU armor is not exportable. The M1A2 SEPv3 the Poles ordered look like they have DU armor an well as getting the latest version of the M829 DU ammunition.
Either way, I hope the transferred M1s will have ERA added on (TUSK kit). This war isn't Iraq firing steel penetrators and crappy Saggers
Dunno if it is DU, but the Chobham armor is still very top secret. The export version of the M1 is rolled composite steel. The Saudi version isn't as good as the American one armor wise. Ukraine will get the real fucking deal from our mothballed stock.
The T-72 Iraqi version was definitely a downgrade like the Abrams to Saudi. The full M1 ran ramped over that version. Kinda like the T-90 in Syria got rolled by 2nd generation western anti-tank weapons.

[ZERO] German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock bluntly stated in fresh remarks that Western allies are fighting a war against Russia. The remarks came during a debate at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Tuesday amid discussions over sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
While Baerbock's words were largely ignored in mainstream media, a number of pundits on social media noted with alarm that the German foreign minister just essentially declared war on Russia.
Ironically other German officials have long sought to emphasize their country is not a party to the conflict, fearing uncontrollable escalation.
Contradicting this official stance, Baerbock said the quiet part out loud, and introduced the comments with: "And therefore I’ve said already in the last days — yes, we have to do more to defend Ukraine. Yes, we have to do more also on tanks."
And that's when she asserted: "But the most important and the crucial part is that we do it together and that we do not do the blame game in Europe, because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other."
Interestingly, both Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his former defense minister who recently resigned, Christine Lambrecht, have been seen as weak on arming Ukraine - repeatedly declaring an unwillingness to get pulled deeper into the proxy war aspect to the conflict. But now it seems the more hawkish Baerbock is willing to at this point be much more open with the reality of what's happening.
