Kerry: ‘China Is Doing a Lot More than People Think' on Making Renewables
[Breitbart] During an interview with CNN International aired on Wednesday’s "First Move," Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry stated that while China should do more to move away from coal, "China is doing a lot more than people think in trying to deploy renewables, manufacture the renewables."

Kerry stated, "Well, we should be hopeful, certainly. No, the world cannot get to where we have to get to to avoid the worst consequences of the climate crisis without China being there and being helpful. Now, we’re engaged, again, in conversations with China. I’m encouraged. I think China is doing a lot more than people think in trying to deploy renewables, manufacture the renewables. We’d like to see more in terms of moving away from coal and so forth. But we have to work together. We have to work together with an ability to recognize our common responsibility and to come to the table and help the rest of the world. And if China and the United States can move on some of these things right now in these next months, that will make a gigantic difference. It’s one of the top things that one should try to achieve, because it will accelerate action by everybody else and it will facilitate that transformation. It will also help a lot of people in various parts of the world who are suspicious of what China is doing or not doing to see that China is there, is part of the solution, not the problem and at least addressing the problem in a very serious way. And that would help everybody."

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy officially ends proxy voting
[FoxNews] House Republicans have officially ended the practice of proxy voting, which was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to permit lawmakers to vote without being present in-person.

"No more proxy voting," House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., announced Thursday. "Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count."

Proxy voting was established by former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in May 2020 to allow Congress to operate under COVID-19 pandemic protocols. Instead of showing up for votes, a member of Congress could submit a letter to have a colleague announce their position on bills and amendments and even cast votes in their name.

In 2020, 160 Republicans signed on to a lawsuit brought by McCarthy challenging the practice that was rejected by the Supreme Court. But by the end of 2021, roughly 70% of the original Republican plaintiffs had voted by proxy, according to a study by the Brookings Institute.

While proxy voting was intended as a "public health emergency" policy, lawmakers in both parties have pawned off their votes to attend campaign events and other functions entirely unrelated to their health concerns with voting in-person.

McCarthy had vowed to end the practice if Republicans captured the House majority.

"The Senate has managed to maintain in-person Floor voting for the entirety of the past two years — with a much older population and a 50-50 makeup, no less," he said in December. "From the get-go, we warned that proxy voting would be misused as a means of convenience rather than as a precaution for health — and it has been, by members of both parties."

US Treasury takes unusual steps to avoid looming default
[Dawn] The US Treasury began taking measures on Thursday to prevent a default on government debt, as Congress heads towards a high-stakes clash between Democrats and Republicans over raising the borrowing limit.

Such "extraordinary measures" can help reduce the amount of outstanding debt subject to the limit, currently set at $31.4 trillion, but the Treasury has warned that the tools would only help for a limited time — likely not longer than six months.

"I respectfully urge Congress to act promptly to protect the full faith and credit of the United States," said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen in a letter to Congressional leadership on Thursday. She added that there is "considerable uncertainty" on how long the measures can last before risking default.

"Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the US economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability," Yellen warned last week.

A default would harm US credibility, and JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon also cautioned that "we should never question the creditworthiness of the United States government." "That is sacrosanct. It should never happen," he said in an interview with CNBC.

The world’s biggest economy could face severe disruption with Republicans threatening to refuse the usual annual rubber stamping of a rise in the legal borrowing limit, and this could push the United States into default.

Far-right Republicans, who now hold key power in the party’s narrow majority in the House, want Democratic President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Being a self-defined foreign policy whiz kid means never having to say you're sorry...
to agree to slash government spending.

They argue that radical cuts are needed to reduce borrowing, which Congress has generally agreed to increase each year — raising the so-called debt ceiling.

"Unchecked spending will have dire consequences," said Republican House Boodle Central Chairman Jason Smith in a statement.

"Congress cannot continue mortgaging our children and grandchildren’s futures to borrow from foreign nations like China," Smith added. But the White House has said cuts of the size Republicans demand would have to come from key social security and military spending programmes, or involve major new taxes.

The White House also vowed that Biden would not negotiate with hardline Republicans over their "risky and dangerous" opposition to increasing the limit.

Raising or suspending the debt limit does not authorise new spending or cost taxpayers money, said Yellen last week.

For now, the Treasury Department said it would turn to resources from two funds for retirees as it starts its "extraordinary measures." It will not fully invest a portion of the Civil Service Retirement and Disability Fund (CSRDF), with a "debt issuance suspension period" to last until early June.

Treasury will also halt additional investments of amounts credited to the CSRDF and Postal Service Retiree Health Benefits Fund, Yellen said in announcing the latest actions.

As the debt ceiling is reached, Treasury will start to draw down its cash balances and turn to accounting techniques and tools to allow the government to continue its functions, said Mickey Levy of Berenberg Capital Markets. But he believes the probability of a government default on its debt is close to zero.

House Republican Oversight Chairman James Comer Announces Hearing on ‘Worst Border Crisis in American History'
[Breitbart] House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced Thursday the committee will hold a hearing on the policies that have “ignited” the Biden border crisis.

Comer said in a written statement:

President Biden’s radical open borders agenda has ignited the worst border crisis in American history. The Biden Administration’s deliberate actions are fueling human smuggling, stimulating drug cartel operations, enabling deadly drugs such as fentanyl to flow into American communities, and encouraging illegal immigrants to flout U.S. immigration laws. Republicans will hold the Biden Administration accountable for this ongoing humanitarian, national security, and public health crisis that has turned every town into a border town.

The hearing, which will commence the week of February 6, could include border patrol agents, including:

  • Jason Owens, chief border patrol agent, U.S. Border Patrol

  • Gregory, chief border patrol agent, U.S. Border Patrol

  • Gloria Chavez, chief patrol agent, U.S. Border Patrol

  • Patricia McGurk-Daniel, acting chief patrol agent, U.S. Border Patrol

  • Chairman Comer also requested Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro
Mayorkas to provide documents, communications, and information about DHS’s role in “undermining efforts to secure the southern border.”

Davos - 4 reasons to distrust and resist the 'climate change' elites
[WND] The World Economic Forum insect overlords have convened in Davos, Switzerland, for their annual confab this week, and once again, their focus is "crisis."

Everything is a "crisis" for the WEF and their minions seeded throughout the world's governments and corporate leaders, and those crises are always "unprecedented." But this year, they're trying to foment even more global panic; they've declared 2023 to be the "year of the 'polycrisis.'" In other words, multiple crises at the same time. (Which is the same thing they've been saying for years, but with a new, scary epithet attached to it.)

Also consistent with their previous messaging is that those in power need much "more" to accomplish their goals. More power, more government and corporate control, and much more money. Former Secretary of State John Kerry gave a speech in Davos on Tuesday in which he warned that "saving the planet" will take "money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money."

Where is all this money going to come from? Why, from you, of course — the average citizen — from whom everything will be taken; not only your money but your car, your single-family home and yard, your food and your freedom. But it's fine, because we'll have utopia when the central planners are finished.

Everything about this reeks of fraud, deceit, massive miscalculation and manipulation. And we've seen this movie enough times before to be suspicious of everything we're being told.

#5  There is sufficient evidence that these Global Climate change morons are all wet..
Relentless storms were ravaging California again
As California emerges from a two-week bout of deadly atmospheric rivers, a number of climate researchers say the recent storms appear to be typical of the intense, periodic rains the state has experienced throughout its history and not the result of global warming.

Although scientists are still studying the size and severity of storms that killed 19 people and caused up to $1 billion in damage, initial assessments suggest the destruction had more to do with California's historic drought-to-deluge cycles, mountainous topography and aging flood infrastructure than it did with climate-altering greenhouse gasses.

Although the media and some officials were quick to link a series of powerful storms to climate change, researchers interviewed by The Times said they had yet to see evidence of that connection. Instead, the unexpected onslaught of rain and snow after three years of punishing drought appears akin to other major storms that have struck California every decade or more since experts began keeping records in the 1800s.

“We know from climate models that global warming will boost California storms of the future, but we haven’t made that connection with the latest storm systems,” said Alexander Gershunov, a climate scientist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. “Assuming that these storms were driven by global warming would be like assuming an athlete who breaks a record was on steroids.”

Mike Anderson, official state climatologist for California, suggested that the recent series of atmospheric rivers — long plumes of vapor that can pour over the West Coast — was a grim reminder that in a place so dry, sudden flooding can bring catastrophe.

“Each of the recent atmospheric rivers were within the historical distribution of sizes of atmospheric rivers,” Anderson said, “It will take further study to determine how warming temperatures influenced the sequence or the sudden transition from dry to wet and soon back to dry.”

Kerry needs to go back to his gatherings at his home where he tells stories and shows movies about his Vietnam experience.
