Devin Nunes accuses Fusion GPS of racketeering in federal lawsuit
[Washington Examiner] Congressman Devin Nunes filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against opposition research firm Fusion GPS, its founder Glenn Simpson, and left-leaning watchdog group Campaign for Accountability, accusing them of "racketeering" and interfering with his congressional Trump-Russia investigation.

Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee until Democrats won the majority in 2018, claimed that Simpson, Fusion GPS, and the Campaign for Accountability illegally conspired to "harass" him in an attempt to "hinder, delay, prevent, or dissuade" him from looking into issues surrounding the federal investigation into the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and to scare him off from investigating possible wrongdoing by Simpson and Fusion GPS.

The California Republican is asking the judge to award him $9.9 million in damages.

The 35-page complaint Nunes filed in the Eastern District of Virginia today pointed to a Daily Caller article from early August that revealed the Campaign for Accountability hired Fusion GPS as an "independent contractor" in 2018 and paid the firm close to $140,000 for research. And the Nunes lawsuit alleged the watchdog group and the opposition research firm then colluded to target him and stymie his efforts, pointing to three ethics complaints filed by the Campaign for Accountability allegedly "in concert with" Fusion GPS in an effort to "chill reporting of Fusion GPS and Simpson’s wrongdoing" and to dissuade Nunes from making criminal referrals to the Justice Department.

Nunes described Fusion GPS as "a political war room for hire that specializes in dirty tricks and smears" and the Campaign for Accountability as a "dark money, partisan, left-wing" nonprofit that he said targets mainly conservatives.

Obamas accused of ‘deplorable behavior' amid trademark dispute: 'Not consistent with the values they preach'
[Fox News] Barack and Michelle Obama have been accused of "deplorable behavior" by a Los Angeles entertainment attorney for filing a "meritless petition" amid a trademark dispute over the name of their company, Higher Ground Productions.

The legal team representing the Obamas filed a petition to cancel the trademark of an e-book publishing company called Higher Ground Enterprises, much to the chagrin of the publishing company.

"This is really deplorable behavior. I hope that the Obamas realize that these actions are not consistent with the values they preach and that they instruct their attorneys to immediately dismiss the petition," attorney Larry Zerner told Fox News in a statement that was first given to The Hollywood Reporter.

Zerner told Fox News that the "Obamas have known for almost a year" that their Higher Ground Productions trademark application was rejected by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office because it was too similar to his client’s Higher Ground Enterprises.

"Instead of simply picking another name, the Obamas' lawyers have now filed a meritless petition to cancel my client's trademark so they can take it for themselves," Zerner said.

Zerner told Fox News that his client’s motive is "not political" and Higher Ground Enterprises simply wants to keep its name and avoid confusion.

#1  This is entirely consistent with Obama's values. This is how you treat the deplorables. You don't choose another name, you don't buy it from them, you seize it from them with force, in court.

To debate or argue is impossible just as a 15th century Christian wouldn’t debate with a Jew. You don’t debate with a group that is subhuman and evil; you simply attack.

Back to School Day in Arlington, VA Includes Gender-Neutral Sports Uniforms, Preferred Pronouns
[BREITBART] Children heading back to school in grades K through 12 in northern Virginia on Tuesday will now fall under sweeping transgender and “gender-nonconforming” policies pushed and put in place by groups such as the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and the Arlington Gender Identity Allies (AGIA).

The University of Michigan reported on Arlington Public Schools’ new policy implementation procedure (PIP), which includes using “preferred pronouns” and gender-neutral sports uniforms.

“The PIP affirming transgender and gender non-conforming students is essential for the safety and privacy of students,” Emily Vincent, a parent who likes the new policy, said in the Spartan Newsroom report. “Their gender identity does not pose a risk or danger to other students.”

“A year in the making, the PIP was introduced by Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tara Nattrass,” the Spartan Newsroom reported. “The PIP will include updates to facilities including gender-neutral bathrooms and locker rooms as well as a non-gender-specific dress code and preferred pronoun additions to student files.”

Trump administration rolls back Obama-era lightbulb rules
[THEHILL] The Department of Energy (DOE) finalized a controversial rule Tuesday that would erase Obama-era efficiency standards for lightbulbs.

The regulation eliminates efficiency standards for about half the bulbs on the market. It leaves in place rules for standard pear-shaped bulbs, while removing such requirements for recessed lighting, chandeliers and other shapes of bulbs.

When first proposed, the rule was supported by lightbulb manufacturers, but consumer groups estimate continuing to use less-efficient bulbs will cost the average household more than $100 a year and create more pollution as utilities produce energy that otherwise would not be needed.

"The Energy Department flat out got it wrong today. Instead of moving us forward, this rule will keep more energy-wasting bulbs on store shelves," Jason Hartke, president of the Alliance to Save Energy, said in a statement. "If you wanted folks to pay a lot more than they should on electric bills, this rollback would be a pretty good way of doing it."

The rule will increase U.S. electricity use by 80 billion kilowatt hours over the course of a year, roughly the amount of electricity needed to power all households in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, according to an analysis by the Appliance Standards Awareness Project.

DOE argued its rule will have little impact given the increasing demand for LED bulbs, which use less electricity than many other types.

#1  LED lights are better and not much more expensive than incandescents. High use lights should all be LEDs. When low usage incandescents burn out replace them w/ LEDs.

#2  So did the journolist narrativing that "article" bother to find anyone supporting this "it's for your own good" regulation?
Posted by: Bright Pebbles || 09/05/2019 5:36 Comments || Top||

#3  I have been patiently awaiting such a rollback on laws against traditional incandescent light bulbs.
(Just as I have been longing for the days when we will resort back to the traditional values that made our country great in the past.)
I remember the days I used to buy four high quality GE light bulbs in a pack for just 99 cents at the grocery store a decade or two ago.
Because of the forced switch to LED GE closed down their great light bulb factory which made good quality bulbs by the millions.
Now I have to buy cheap bulbs at the 99 cent store.
The only brands available now like "Sunbeam" are imported from China because the GE plant was closed down.
I have to check every bulb in the store before I buy it to make sure the filament is not already broken (just like I check all of my eggs at the grocery store).
Some bulbs are OK, but many others may only last few switches or less than an hour.
I guess because the tungsten filament is not pure enough or the shielding gas is not good enough in the bulb they just do not last.

I use a special parabolic light bulb as a spot light called the PAR20.
The PAR20 at high wattage makes a great work light to see deep into the engine compartment for inspection.
In order to work for inspection the bulb must be of high wattage.
I prefer 75 watts to penetrate deep into confined spaces.
But now only low wattage PAR20 bulbs can be found, around 45 watts.
PAR20's are now expensive, $5 ea at Home Depot.
During work the bulb may break from rough service.
So my price is one dollar for a bulb.

I used to buy nice high lumenosity fluorescent tubes at Grainger for $10.
But now due to the ban on high mercury content in bulbs in California I can no longer get these nice bright fluorescent tubes.
Daguerre accidentally discovered mercury increases sensitivity to light if that is related.
Mercury vapor lights are very bright.
The only fluorescent tubes one can buy now are low mercury and low lumenosity yet they are still very expensive.

The price of fluorescent bulbs is probably so high now because of a California hazardous waste disposal fee hidden in the price.
My fluorescent light tubes last a long time, 15 years, because they are only needed at night for short times.
I think the fluorescent tubes die from age, not from hours of use.
So a fluorescent tube is a financial and a hazardous waste when a 25 cent light bulb would last just a long since they are only used for a few hours a week.

I might be interested in LED bulbs if I could get higher wattages.
I suspect wattage is limited in LED's because of problems with heat dissipation.
The cooling fins on high wattage LED's make them look ugly.
LED's are designed for low wattage.
To increase watts the number of chips are increased, which is why the chips come in linear strips.
Strips work great under cabinets where they are not seen, but are not appealing on ceilings where they can be seen.

Environmentalists can not understand my needs for incandescent light bulb because they do not do the work that I do.
The environmentalists would force us all to use underpowered lights so they can feel good about themselves believing they are helping to save the environment.
Democratic constituents are not great achievers so of course they are unable to be responsible for their own environmental decisions.

I know what lights work best for me in my situation so I have wasted hundreds of hours of Internet research
trying to find something that may no longer be available because it is not considered to be efficient enough and so has been banned.

#8  LEDS flicker which can lead to health problems. The high amount of blue light can impact your sleep, and in real world use they don't last very long. I have incandescents that still work fine many years later, and brand name LEDs which have failed after just a few months. So let the market decide.

Brexit: Jo Johnson, Brother Of Boris Johnson, To Stand Down
The PM's brother cites 'unresolvable tension' between 'family loyalty and the national interest' as he announces resignation as MP and minister.

'It's been an honour to represent Orpington for 9 years & to serve as a minister under three PMs. In recent weeks I've been torn between family loyalty and the national interest - it's an unresolvable tension & time for others to take on my roles as MP & Minister. #overandout'

Johnson has been MP for Orpington since 2010. He also attends cabinet as universities minister. He got promoted even though he voted remain in 2010 and he is much more pro-European than his brother. It is hard to believe that he is comfortable about the idea of a no-deal Brexit, although he has not questioned his brother's strategy in public.

This tweet implies that he is standing down as an MP at the forthcoming election, and leaving the government then, rather than that he is resigning as a minister today, but it is not entirely clear.

Bernie: ‘Yes' I'm Courageous Enough to Talk About Population Control
[Breitbart] (I-VT) told CNN’s climate change town hall attendees Wednesday night that he is willing to talk about population control, suggesting that abortion is key to addressing the climate crisis.

"Human population growth has more than doubled in the last 50 years," an attendee told Sanders, adding that the planet cannot sustain such growth.

"I realize this is a poisonous topic for politicians but it’s crucial to face. Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact," the attendee continued.

"Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?" she asked.

"The answer is yes," Sanders said, arguing that population control ‐ in the form of abortion and birth control, specifically ‐ is something he "very, very strongly" supports.

"The answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies and make reproductive decisions," Sanders said.
