Viktor Chernomyrdin, Fmr. Prime Minister, the 'Yogi Berra' of Russia
Viktor Chernomyrdin was founder and the first chairman of Gazprom company, the longest serving Prime Minister of Russia (1992–1998) and Acting President of Russia for a day in 1996.

He was a key figure in Russian politics in the 1990s, and a great contributor to the Russian transition from a planned to a market economy. From 2001 to 2009, he was Russia's ambassador to Ukraine.

Chernomyrdin is known in Russia and Russian-speaking countries for his unique language style, containing numerous malapropisms and syntactically incorrect speech. Many of his sayings became aphorisms and idioms in Russian language, the most famous being his expression

"We wanted the best, but it turned out as always".

Some of his other greatest hits:

Better than vodka there is nothing worse.

From the very beginning there was nothing like that, and now there it is again.

Better to be the head of a fly than the buttocks of an elephant.

Always we in Russia have something standing that we don't need.

There is still time to save the face. Later we will be forced to save some other parts of a body.

Wine we need for health, and the health we need to drink vodka.

Accuse of what? Of corruption? Whom? Me? Who? USA? What, did they, there, just wake up?

My life has passed in the atmosphere of oil and gas.

Snark of the Day 2: Electric Boogaloo
From an NRCC e-mail reacting to the news that San Fran Nan will be running for House Minority Leader in January:

Snark of the Day
Randall Hoven @ American Thinker

We are hearing that either President Obama is either misunderstood or we are unwashed hillbillies who don't get it....

President Obama explained us to us as follows:

And so part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now, and facts and science and argument does [sic] not seem to be winning the day all the time, is because we're hard-wired not to always think clearly when we're scared. And the country is scared, and they [sic] have good reason to be.

(Just my unwashed observation: We have a president who knows what our brains are hardwired to do and can describe the emotional state of an entire country, but he can't get subject and verb to agree and pronoun and antecedent to agree in just two sentences not read from a teleprompter. Good thing he didn't say "refudiate.")...

#5  It means he's scared.

It's an interesting theory.

You have to wonder: How does it feel if you are the President of the United States and the American people have just told you that you have screwed up.

#6  They had these plans lined up and ready to go like airplanes since before the democrat primary. The House democrats knew they would take some losses - even said so if in not words they did in early retirement announcements - whoever the president would be would need to sell their agenda to minimize that damage. They selected Obama, the democrat party got trounced by three parties of their own creation: the anticipated Republicans, Tea Party, and own democrats.

Obama may or should be nervous, knowing that now the plan B is to push for his replacement and shoot the moon with a possible 12 year democrat presidency; more than enough time for people to get tit addicted. Maybe it is Hillary! or bring someone up from AAA early. If Obama wants to keep his job, ensuring his place in history as his ego would appreciate he now must campaign against dems for the next 2 years as well as Republicans and/or Tea Party. That there is even talk about democrat primaries shows where that is at, and to be replaced in the primary caucus bs democrat whatever process would ensure his place in history as well, but as a goat.

But for a swing to the center, well, there is too much out there slamming the non-believers even days before the elections. Take a person at his first word. That is either who that person is or, if they change, they will always be suspected of putting on a front.

My opinion only, add or subtractions welcome.

Pelosi: Just like in "Fatal Attraction", she isn't dead yet
In the wake of Tuesday's shellacking, outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, has been widely expected to step down as the Democratic leader and leave Congress.

Not so fast.

High-level Democratic sources in the House tell ABC News Pelosi is seriously considering staying in Congress and running for the position of minority leader.
Please stay, your Minority Leader Press conferences will be a great source of material for the 2012 Republican Campaign Ads.
Yesssss, what would we do without San Fran Nan ...
Pelosi is methodically calling every Democratic House member who won on Tuesday, as well as many who lost, sources tell ABC News. In the process, she is weighing her options and gauging her support.

Some of Pelosi's closest allies are encouraging her to stay and to lead the Democratic effort to win back their majority. Those encouraging her are arguing, in part, that she can unify the progressives in the caucus, and more importantly, that nobody in the House can raise money for the next campaign better than Pelosi.

India-Pakistan
Falling coconut threat to Obama neutralised
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] The municipal authorities in Mumbai have removed coconuts from trees around the city's Gandhi museum in case any of them fall on US President Barack B.O. Obama when he visits, an official said today.

"The coconuts were falling off, so we requested the local authorities here to remove the remainder," the executive secretary of Mani Bhavan, Meghshyam Ajgaonkar, told AFP.

Mani Bhavan, where the father of the Indian independence movement Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his visits to the city between 1917 and 1934, is in south Mumbai on Laburnum Grove, which is lined with coconut trees.

Mr Ajgaonkar said the precaution was taken as local and US officials undertook security sweeps of the museum and library before Mr Obama's visit. Mr Obama, smarting from an election defeat at home, starts a four-nation Asian tour on Saturday in India, whose relations with the United States have rapidly warmed in the past decade.

Mr Obama has often cited Gandhi as a major inspiration. He name-checked him in his Nobel peace prize speech and had a portrait of him in his US Senate office.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
President B.O. will be looking for a way to prove his love for India during the visit, as he tries to end suspicions in the world's largest democracy that his interest lies elsewhere.

Obama has described India as one of the few global partners for the United States and last year honoured Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the pomp of Obama's first White House state dinner.

But many Indians have been uneasy about Obama's early efforts to build bridges with fellow Asian giant China and to assist India's historic rival Pakistain. Mr Obama got off on the wrong foot with New Delhi before his inauguration by musing about mediating over divided Kashmire.

However,
The infamous However...
US presidents have proven they can quickly break the ice in India. Bill Clinton is remembered fondly there for his amiable visit in 2000, just two years after sharp exchanges over New Delhi's nuclear tests.

Mr Obama may use a speech before parliament to pledge support for one of India's top goals -- a permanent seat on UN Security Council.
The whole trip to India, with the indulgences, extravagance and over the top expense, is perhaps the saddest thing Bambi has yet done ...

#15  Dear Obama,

#16  Thank, God.

I was worried about that.
Posted by: Kelly || 11/05/2010 13:31 Comments || Top||

#17  Of course, this is the result of a misunderstanding. An Indian official overheard a Democrat ranting about Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley, and confused the Democrat's racial slur against them with an expression of concern for falling fruit.

#18  I thought that was what the Medici tunnel was for? Besides that term is racist - perhaps herbiscus airial appendage?

Really what is the point of this trip? Besides finding the origins of shellack that is. I'm sure this will make many friends turning Mumbai into a 10 day LA tour.
Posted by: swksvolFF || 11/05/2010 14:38 Comments || Top||

#19  Damn! Another opportunity to "send a message" lost. "President" O'Bumble just doesn't get it, and it's getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that he doesn't get it. IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU, IDIOT, IT'S ABOUT "WE THE PEOPLE". Take a deep breath, learn a little humility, and grow up. Otherwise, in 2012 you're going to be so despondent we'll have to initiate a "suicide watch". We probably have a few blind folk that will volunteer for that...
