11 killed as allied forces clash with Shaboobs in Bakool
HUDUR, Somalia -- At least 11 people died after Somali government forces aided by African Union peacekeepers raided Al Shabaab bases in Bakool region of southern Somalia on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.

Somali National Army (SNA) commander in Bakool Abdirahman Mohamed told the media that fierce fighting in El Bar area left 8 terrorists militants dead and scores wounded.

Meanwhile Al Shabaab operations terrorist spokesman Abdiasis Abu Muscab claimed victory against the allied forces, saying they killed ten soldiers and destroyed several military vehicles.

Mohamed added that only three soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in the battle.

Following severe setback on the frontline in central and southern Somalia, Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group reverted to cowardly hit-and-run attacks.

Egyptian court declares Hamas a 'terrorist organization'
[THEGLOBEANDMAIL] An Egyptian court declared Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, a "terrorist organization" on Saturday, further isolating the rulers of the Gazoo Strip who once found a warm welcome under the country's past Islamist government.
And in Israel there was much rejoicing. Except on the Left, which will worry that Hamas would lose all motivation to negotiate for peace.
Hamas losing all motivation to negotiate for peace? Don't worry, the Iranians will get them back into line at the peace processor...
The ruling by Judge Mohammed el-Sayed of the Court For Urgent Matters described Hamas as targeting both civilians and security forces inside Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula and aiming to harm the country. The Sinai has been under increasing attack by Islamic Death Eaters since the Egyptian military ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013.

"It has been proven without any doubt that the movement has committed acts of sabotage, liquidations and the killing of innocent civilians and members of the armed forces and police in Egypt," the judge's ruling said, according to state news agency MENA.

In Gazoo, Hamas official Mushir al-Masri condemned the decision and urged Egypt to reverse course.

"This ruling serves the Israeli occupation. It's a politicized decision that constitutes the beginning of Egypt evading its role toward the Paleostinian cause," he said. "This is a coup against history and an Egyptian abuse of the Paleostinian cause and resistance, which fights on behalf of the Arab nation. We call on Egypt to reconsider this dangerous decision."

Wataniya TV in Sebha silenced after attack: report
[Libya Herald] The Wataniya TV and Radio stations in Sebha have gone off air today after the building housing them was attacked this morning. It is not clear if the attack was political. As well as smashing up the premises, those responsible are reported to have stolen cables and equipment.
"No more moose and squirrel for you!"
Questions are being asked about the role of police who were supposed to be protecting the building. They are said to have been withdrawn before the attack.

It is that not the first time Wataniya in Sebha has been attacked. Generators have been stolen more than once.

Meanwhile it is reported that a university professor in the town died earlier this week when he was hit by a stray bullet. Mansour al-Sanusi Hammadi is reported to have been killed on Thursday.

Occasional random shootings continue in the town, regarded as the capital of Fezzan. Recently a mortar was reported to have hit a Sebha wedding tent killing three women wounding many more.

Claims and counter claims over crashed aircraft
[Libya Herald] Mystery surrounds reports that a Libyan jet fighter plane was shot down and crashed yesterday just near the border with Tunisia. The Tunisian news agency TAP has quoted an unnamed senior Tunisian security official saying that a plane belonging to Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
crashed just five kilometres inside Libya, adding that it may have been shot down by the Libyan National Army.

Tunisia's Radio Tataouine also reported but it said it had happened 15 kilometres from the border.

For his part, the Libyan National Army's front man, Colonel Ahmed Masmari, has said that a Aero L-39 Albatros trainer aircraft, converted by Libya Dawn to launch missiles, had been shot down as it was trying to attack Wattiya airbase.

In Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, however, Libya Dawn has denied losing any aircraft. Also, a photo purporting to be of the burned-out aircraft does not look like an Aero L-39 Albatros. Indeed, it does not look like any aircraft belonging to Libyan air force.

The head of the air force Saqr Adam Geroushi said that he had not heard about the crash but would check on it.

Rival protests grip Yemen in wake of Shiite rebel power grab as al-Qaida kills 4 soldiers
[YEMENONLINE.INFO] Tens of thousands of Yemenis marched Friday in the capital, Sanaa, in support of Iranian catspaws who captured the city last year. The demonstrators denounced alleged "foreign conspiracies" -- a reference to international backing for Yemen's embattled president, who managed to escape house arrest at the hands of the rebels earlier this month.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hanging, Butch continued with his last words, trying not to repeat himself too often......
rallies against the rebels known as Houthis took place in several other places across the country, including cities of Taiz, Hodida, Bayda and Dhamar.

Drone Raid Kills Three Qaida Militants in Yemen
[AnNahar] A drone strike Saturday killed three al-Qaida militants in Yemen, a tribal source said, in a region where the United States is the only country operating the unmanned aircraft.

The raid "targeted a vehicle in which three members of al-Qaida were riding in the village of Bijan, in Shabwa province," the source said.

All three were killed, and their bodies burnt.

Yemen has descended into chaos since a Shiite militia overran the capital in September.

The Huthi militia effectively placed President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi under house arrest in January but last week he escaped to the southern city of Aden.

Despite the turmoil, President Barack Obama vowed on January 25 not to let up in the U.S. campaign against jihadists in the strife-torn Arabian Peninsula country.

Within a week, a U.S. drone strike killed Harith al-Nadhari, a senior al-Qaida figure, and three other militants in Shabwa province, the jihadist network said on Twitter.

The Yemen-based al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, is seen by the United States as the deadliest branch of the global extremist network.
While Boko Haram and ISIS have become the deadliest jihadi organizations overall.

Militant den busted, arms, explosives seized
[Dhaka Tribune] Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have busted a myrmidons' den in Bashundhara Residential Area of the port city's Halishahar and seized firearms, ammunition, and bomb-making materials.

RAB 7 Commanding Officer Lt Col Mista Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tip-off,

the RAB members raided the first floor of a five-storied building in the residential area,

"We have seized 30 grenades, along with a huge cache of firearms, ammunition and kabooms from their possession. We are estimating that some 300-400 bombs could be made using the explosives."

Europe
German City of Bremen on Heightened Terror Alert
[AnNahar] German police said Sunday they have temporarily detained two people and searched an Islamic cultural center amid a weekend terrorism alert in the northern city of Bremen.

Police stood guard at key locations, including the town hall, main church and a synagogue, for a second day following a federal police warning issued Friday about possible Islamist terrorist activity.

With a Bundesliga football match to be held later Sunday, the city continued to face a "heightened threat level", a police spokeswoman told national news agency DPA, adding that "we have thrown a security cordon over Bremen".

Security will be tightened in and around the more than 42,000-capacity Weserstadion football ground where home team Werder Bremen was to have a Bundesliga clash with second-placed VfL Wolfsburg.

Werder has said there were no plans to postpone the league match, but that the club was in constant contact with the police operations center.

It is Germany's third recent alert after threats of possible attacks led to the cancellation of a march by the anti-Islam movement PEGIDA in Dresden in January and Brunswick city calling off a carnival parade in February.

Police union GdP warned against complacency about the threat of attacks.

"Politicians should stop talking of an abstract terror threat in Germany," said the union's chairman Oliver Malchow. "Germany is undoubtedly a target of terrorists. The terror warnings are becoming more frequent and specific."

Copenhagen Gunman's Third Accomplice Charged
[AnNahar] Danish judicial authorities on Saturday charged a third alleged accomplice in Copenhagen's twin shootings this month, accusing him of helping the attacker obtain a bulletproof vest and a knife, a court front man said.

The defendant, a slender 18-year-old in khakis and a red sports jacket, denied the charges before his custody hearing held behind closed doors, news agency Ritzau reported.

"He is accused of helping the attacker and will be detained for 26 days," Jens Stausboell of Copenhagen district court told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The man was identified Friday by public broadcaster DR as the younger brother of gunman Omar El-Hussein, a Dane of Paleostinian origin who killed two people in the capital this month.

Three accomplices in all have been detained for allegedly helping the gunman, who was rubbed out by police in a pre-dawn shootout following the attacks.

in the immediate aftermath of the February 14-15 shootings -- have been charged with hiding El-Hussein after his first attack and helping him obtain and get rid of weapons, Stausboell said.

Armed with an assault rifle, El-Hussein fired 28 bullets a cultural centre hosting a seminar on free speech and Islam.

He later shot up a synagogue, killing an unarmed Jewish security guard.

Israeli military conducts 'surprise' drill in West Bank
ay-pee. Absolutely NOTHING to do with Bibi's speech on the 3rd. I expect Paleo chatter was abundant
Israel's military has called up thousands of soldiers in a "surprise" training drill in the West Bank.
cue Lindsay Graham Gomer Pyle
The military said Sunday's exercise was to train soldiers in "different scenarios."
as in "shooting the molotov in your hand"
The military declined to elaborate and emphasized that the exercise was planned in advance and was not connected to any current developments or security threat.

Israeli media said the exercise would last at least two days.
which would take it to...hmmm add the one... March 3rd?
About 13,000 reserve soldiers received phone calls telling them to be on alert, though only 3,000 had to report for duty. The military said different units, including infantry, are involved in the drill, which is bigger in scope than regular ones that are carried out periodically.

Dozens Dead as Qaida in Syria Takes Rebel Base
"Weapons transfer to target group achieved, sir."
"Well done, Jones. Well done, indeed," is precisely how I hope the conversation didn't go. But the other possibility isn't much better:
"I don't understand it, sir. Every time we arm and train a group of the good rebels, the bad rebels overrun them and take the weapons."
[AnNahar] Al-Qaeda's Syria affiliate on Saturday drove U.S.-backed rebels out of a strategic northern military base in fierce fighting that left dozens dead, a monitor said.

At least 29 fighters from the Western-armed Hazm movement were killed along with six Al-Nusra
...the current nom de guerre of al-Qaeda in the Levant, which isn't to be confused with al-Qaeda in Iraq and the Levant...
Front jihadists, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It said fierce fighting had broken out on Friday night for Base 46, west of the city of Aleppo.

"Al-Nusra captured Base 46," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britannia-based Observatory.

Base 46 is a sprawling military compound that rebel fighters seized in November 2012 from troops loyal to Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
.

In a statement, residents in the nearby rebel-held village of Atareb criticized the attack on the base and appealed to Al-Nusra to instead fight the "infidel regime and its allies".

The offensive came a month after Al-Nusra -- al-Qaeda's official affiliate in Syria -- expelled Hazm from Regiment 111, another base they had taken from Assad's forces.

Hazm is mainly present in northern Syria. Last year, it was the first to receive U.S.-made anti-tank missiles from its Western backers.

It is one of a number rebel groups that the United States classes as "moderate". They are loosely branded as the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...

The two detainees confessed during investigations of taking part in the fighting in Syria, where they joined the ranks of the Islamic group.

A number of people have in recent months been charged with belonging to ISIL and other turban organizations.

ISIS blows up road to Mosul airport
[RUDAW.NET] A source inside djinn-infested Mosul

said ISIS snuffies have detonated explosives on the road to Mosul International Airport in a bid to prevent coalition forces from using the route.

"Out of fear of an expected massive assault on Mosul against ISIS, the group's snuffies launched a pre-dawn blast on the route to Mosul International Airport in the neighborhood of Zaghlan, south of the city, with the aim of stopping coalition forces that may use the airport to hit ISIS bases inside Mosul," Saaed Mamuzini, a Kurdistan Democratic Party official in Mosul, told Rudaw.

Mamuzini added that following the destruction of the Mosul Museum there is a risk the snuffies would destroy the ancient city of Nimrod, some 30 km south of Mosul.

and inciting violence in the Kurdistan region.

"Three holy mans were arrested in the city of Erbil, and one in the town of Harir in the province of Erbil, another in Bardarash area in the province of Dohuk, and one in Zaryan, Sulaimani province, on charges of encouraging ISIS ideology and inciting violence," sources told Rudaw.

Last November, a Kurdish holy man from Erbil known as Mullah Shwan joined ISIS with his wife and children. Mullah Shwan appeared in a video released by ISIS earlier this month that threatens the Kurdish leaders and vows to take control of the Kurdistan region.

According to the sources, the detainees are still under investigation and have not been convicted for any crimes.

Kamal Moslem, Kurdistan Regional Government's minister of Religious Affairs, was skeptical that such a number of preachers had been arrested.

"This issue has got to do with the security authorities in the Kurdistan Region. They should speak about this matter," said Moslem.

Nearly 500 Kurds joined ISIS last year, but the number has declined dramatically since ISIS attacked areas in the Kurdistan region.

KRG security forces have also taken stricter measures and worked to educate young people about the risks involved with joining the Islamic State.

ISIS leaders killed in Peshmerga victory in Shingal
[RUDAW.NET] Peshmerga forces fought off a fierce four-pronged ISIS assault in Shingal on Friday with the help of coalition Arclight airstrikes.

"The Death Eaters launched the assault at 9:30 last night," Peshmerga commander Hasim Sitai told Rudaw. Sitai said the Peshmerga did not suffer any casualties in the hour-long battle.

Sitai added that two prominent ISIS leaders, Abu Yaqub and Abu Omar, were killed along with several Death Eaters and some of the dead bodies were left behind.

"We are making a solid plan to re-launch an assault on the ISIS in Shingal with the aim of driving them totally out of the area," Sitai said.
