The statement further added that the child was apparently killed on charges of bringing food and water to security personnel.

Condemning the killing of child as a grave human rights

Blasts in Kabul hit near ceremony attended by top officials, casualties increase to 35
Uodated numbers for this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] At least two blasts rattled a large ceremony in western Kabul on Thursday, with the event abruptly cancelled and sending attendees fleeing ‐ including chief executive Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
and other leading government officials.

"Stay calm, the area of the blast is far from us," said former lower house speaker Mohammad Younus Qanooni during a live broadcast of the event.

But moments after the announcement, another kaboom could be heard that sent people running for the exit.

A second unidenitifed voice then addressed the screaming crowd, saying: "I request my countrymen to stay calm. The mortar attack is far from the gathering."

The blasts happened during a ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the death of Shiite Hazara
...a grouping of Dari-speaking people of Sino-Tibetan descent inhabiting Afghanistan and Pakistain. They are predominantly Shia Moslems and not particularly warlike, which makes them favored targets...
leader Abdul Ali Mazari that was attended by many of the country's political elite, including Abdullah and former President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani ‐ who was at the scene ‐ later tweeted "gunnies launched rocket attacks on commemoration ceremony", and said he had escaped safely.

There was conflicting information as to the casualty figures in the immediate aftermath of the blasts.

A short while later, Health Ministry official Mohaibullah Zaeer said an initial check of Kabul’s hospitals revealed three people have been killed and 32 maimed in the attack but he said the figures were not final.

US general warns of IS resurgence as 'caliphate' nears collapse
[Digital Journal] A top US commander warned Thursday that the battle against the Islamic State group was "far from over" despite the jihadists' loss of territory, as survivors abandoned the last shred of the group's collapsing "caliphate" in eastern Syria.

A fierce assault by US-backed forces has sparked an exodus of dust-covered children, veiled women dragging suitcases and dishevelled men, many of them wounded, from the village of Baghouz where besieged IS fighters are making a last stand.

But General Joseph Votel, head of the US Central Command, warned that many of those being evacuated are "unrepentant, unbroken and radicalised", calling for a "vigilant offensive" against the group.

The Syrian Democratic Forces are waiting for more survivors to leave before dealing what they hope will be a final blow to jihadists holed up in a makeshift camp along the banks of the Euphrates.

The SDF was not advancing Thursday out of concern for remaining civilians, but its fighters entered the settlement two days earlier and now control a chunk of it, an SDF source told AFP.

Remaining families have been pushed towards the far end of the camp near the river, he said.

Inside Baghouz on Thursday afternoon, an eerie quiet was interrupted by a brief burst of automatic gunfire.

AFP journalists taken into the battered hamlet watched the SDF stage a controlled explosion of a mine found on the side of a road during a sweep of the area.

Shortly after, a convoy of lorries carrying civilians and a handful of white vans carrying the wounded came trundling down the same street and out towards a screening point on the edge of village.

Hundreds of women disembarked at the outpost, where they waited to be processed and searched by the SDF and members of the US-led coalition.

- 'UNREPENTANT, UNBROKEN AND RADICALISED' -
More than 7,000 people have exited the enclave over the past three days, mostly women and children.

The deluge of fire unleashed by SDF artillery and coalition air strikes at the weekend appears to have taken a toll on the diehard jihadists still inside.

#6  The Western political class has decided that any sort of victory over Islamic enemies is undesirable.

The Taliban orchestrated a mass fatality attack on the continental US, and then rejected and ignored an ultimatum issued by the POTUS speaking before Congress.

The Taliban survived and will return to power, this time explicitly supported by the West.

Compared to the Taliban, ISIS is small fry as far as attacks on Western nations are concerned.

There will inevitably be an ISIS resurgence because the Western political class categorically rejects victory.

Dying IS ‘caliphate’ empties itself of last survivors, 500 turbans surrender, bride sez breeding jihadis
[DAWN] BAGHOUZ: Veiled women carrying babies and maimed men on crutches hobbled out of the last bully boy village in eastern Syria on Wednesday after US-backed forces pummelled the besieged enclave.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) leading the assault expected more fighters to surrender with their families in tow before moving deeper in the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group’s last redoubt.

Bandaged and bedraggled, gaggles of suspected holy warriors in long brown robes limped away from the hellscape of Baghouz across fields of yellow flowers to reach an SDF screening centre.

The tiny village on the banks of the River Euphrates where diehard IS fighters have made a bloody last stand has regurgitated unexplained numbers of people.

Kurdish officers in the SDF and aid groups have voiced their surprise that the flow of evacuees never seemed to dry up after weeks of evacuations.

On Tuesday alone, "3,500 people were evacuated from ISIS-held territory", said SDF front man Mustefa Bali, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

Hundreds more filed out of Baghouz on Wednesday, AFP correspondents on the ground reported.

The deluge of fire unleashed by SDF artillery and coalition air strikes at the weekend appears to have broken the determination of some families.

Syrians, Iraqis and holy warriors who travelled to the "caliphate" from France, Finland and other countries turned themselves in to Kurdish troops.

"There are still lots of people inside," said Safia, a 24-year-old Belgian woman who was among those trucked out by the SDF on Tuesday, adding that her French husband was still inside.

Those filing out of Baghouz are often weak, after living for weeks with scarce food and hiding from bombs in underground shelters.

The authorities in Kurdish-run camp of al-Hol and the other camps where evacuees are dispatched are overwhelmed and entire families have had to sleep rough.

"Families arriving in al-Hol camp have been without access to health and other essential services for a long period of time and ... in a fragile state, compounded by the fatigue of the journey to the camp," the UN office for human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
said.

Dozens of children are unaccompanied and the toll of those who died shortly after arriving or en route from Baghouz has risen to 90 since December, according to the UN.

The capture of Baghouz would mark the end of IS territorial control in the region and deal a death blow to the "caliphate", which at its peak more than four years ago was the size of the United Kingdom and ruled millions of people.

Over 500 ISIS fighters surrender to SDF troops in past 24 hours

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) fighters surrendered themselves to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) over the last 24 hours, a new report from eastern Syria read.

According to the report, over 500 Islamic State fighters turned surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces near the Baghouz Camp in eastern Deir Ezzor.

In addition to the ISIS fighters that surrendered, at least 16 civilians were reportedly freed by the SDF on Thursday.

Among the 16 civilians freed by the SDF on Thursday, two were Yazidi women and their four children.

With nowhere to retreat, the remaining Islamic State fighters will either have to fight till the death, attempt to escape, or surrender to the SDF.

Foreign ISIS bride: "We left so we can breed more jihadis"

[TWITTER]
An Nahar adds:
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces are waiting for more survivors to trickle out before dealing what they hope will be a final blow to jihadists holed-up in a makeshift camp along the banks of the Euphrates.

The SDF was not actively advancing Thursday, out of concern for remaining civilians, but its fighters entered the settlement two days earlier and control a chunk of it, an SDF source told AFP.

Remaining families have been pushed towards the far end of the camp near the river, he said.

More than 7,000 people have exited the enclave over the past three days, mostly women and children.

Around a tenth of the nearly 58,000 people who have fled the last IS bastion since December were jihadists trying to slip back into civilian life, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor.

IS fighters had previously managed to secure passage out of their former strongholds before U.S.-backed forces recaptured the territory. Remaining jihadists, however, are now surrounded on all sides, with Syrian government forces and their allies on the west bank of the Euphrates blocking any escape across the river and Iraqi government forces preventing any move downstream.

A senior SDF officer said 400 jihadists were captured on Tuesday night as they attempted to slip out of Baghouz in an escape he said was organized by a network that had planned to smuggle them to remote hideouts.

An AFP correspondent on Thursday saw more than 10 truckloads of people leaving an SDF screening point en route to the camps, a day after hundreds steamed out of Baghouz.

Around 4,000 people arrived from Baghouz to the Al-Hol camp on Wednesday, pushing the camp's population to over 60,000, according to the International Rescue Committee. Many are wounded or in poor physical shape after living for weeks without much food and hiding from bombs in underground shelters.
Another An Nahar article has more heart rending tales of woe at the link, plus these facts:
Jihadists allowed women, children and the wounded to quit the bombed-out bastion in recent weeks, but had prevented men of fighting age from fleeing, according to survivors.

But jihadists are now allowing men to leave as death and destruction take hold.

Fatima Abdul Jasem said conditions inside the jihadist encampment were "catastrophic". But the Iraqi woman waited until jihadists released her 20-year-old son before escaping, with him and her two daughters.

"Men under 40 who wanted to go out were imprisoned in a guarded tent," she said. "But only two days ago they let them go".

US suspected of deploying avenger drones to Syria for mystery missions
[ALMASDARNEWS] Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have hacked into over half a dozen US drones flying over Syria and Iraq in recent years.

"A certain government agency" has been flying missions in Syria using the Q-11, a variant of the General Atomics Avenger drone also known as the Predator C, The Drive has reported, citing statements by the drone’s manufacturer.

"We know for a fact that a handful of Avengers are flying under some classified umbrella for a certain government agency and that they have been active in the Middle East, and Syria, in particular," the outlet alleged.

Syrian Air Force launches heavy attack on jihadist positions in Idlib, Al Nusra vows big retaliation
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) unleashed a heavy assault across the southern and eastern regions of the Idlib Governorate.

According to a military source in nearby Hama, the Syrian Air Force heavily targeted Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
’s positions near Khan Sheikhoun (southern Idlib) and Saraqib (eastern Idlib).

Following their Arclight airstrikes, the Syrian military launched a barrage of missiles towards Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s positions near the southern Idlib towns of Khan Sheikhoun, Ma’arat al-Nu’man, and Deir Sharqi.

Syrian Army artillery units then targeted Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s defenses at the border-town of Bdama near The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

This Syrian military attack was launched in response to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s recent threats to carry out more raids against the military.

Jihadist group vows to launch several big attacks against the Syrian military in Idlib

[ALMASDARNEWS] Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
published a statement on Wednesday in which they vowed to launch more attacks against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their Russian allies in the Idlib and Hama governorates.

According to the jihadist group’s spokesperson Abu Khaled al-Shami, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham will be launching more attacks against the Syrian Arab Army and Russian military in the coming days, adding that these strikes will be conducted in retaliation for the recent Arclight airstrikes on southern Idlib.

Earlier this week, the Syrian and Russian air forces unleashed a heavy barrage of airstrikes over the southern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

In particular, the Syrian and Russian air forces heavily targeted the area around the key town of Khan Sheikhoun; this resulted in the destruction of a Jaish al-Izza military base and the death of several holy warriors.

The Syrian military said these airstrikes were conducted in retaliation for the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham raids on their positions in northern Hama and southern Idlib.

Syrian Air Force responds to jihadist threats with massive assault

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) sent a message to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
this evening after the latter threatened to launch new attacks on the government-held areas in northwestern Syria.

The Syrian Air Force began their assault by heavily bombarding Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s positions near the towns of Saraqib and Khan Sheikhoun in rural Idlib.

Following the attacks on the jihadist positions in the aforementioned towns, the Syrian Air Force shifted their attention to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s defenses near Khan al-Sabil.

These Arclight airstrikes by the Syrian Air Force were conducted in conjunction with the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) heavy shelling on Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s positions in Ma’arat al-Nu’man, Bdama, Khan Sheikhoun, and al-Ta’manah.

On Wednesday, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham threatened to conduct more deadly raids against the Syrian Arab Army in the Idlib, Hama, and Latakia governorates.

A source from the Syrian Arab Army said they will not halt their attacks until Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and their allies withdraw from the demilitarized zone that was established during the September 17th Sochi meeting.

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) commanders in northwest Syria.

According to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s official media wing, their security forces arrested the Islamic State commander Abu Khattab Kafrnaboudeh during a raid on the terrorist group’s sleeper cell in southern Idlib.

The ISIS commander was allegedly arrested inside a hideout that was filled with explosives and assault rifles.

Despite both being anti-government and jihadist groups, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and ISIS are sworn enemies that have engaged in several battles against one another in the Idlib and Hama governorates.

While ISIS does not actually control any territory in Idlib, they do possess many sleeper cells inside the governorate.

These ISIS sleeper cells have wreaked havoc on Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s positions over the last 18 months, prompting the aforementioned jihadist group to carry out security operations to clear several areas.
