Pakistan Resumes Cross-Durand Line Shelling: Residents
[ToloNews] Some residents of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
on Sunday claimed that the rocket shelling by Pakistain’s military still continues sporadically despite repeated calls by local officials to stop the "aggression".

According to a letter sent to the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
by the Afghan government on February 23, the cross-Durand Line violations date back to 2012 but have increased in frequency since 2017.

During the 2012 to 2017 period, 28,849 artillery shells were fired into Afghanistan by Pakistain resulting in the death of at least 82 people and injuring 187 others, the letter reads.

Since 1st January 2018, the number of violations by Pakistain in Afghanistan stands at 161 which include firing 6,025 artillery shells into Afghan territory.

The Nangarhar residents said many villages in Goshta and Lal Pur districts have been hit by rockets from the other side of the Durand Line.

Nazar Jan, a resident of Lal Pur district, said he moved his family to a safer place as according to him, the rocket shelling from Pakistain are threatening their lives.

"They (Pak military) came to us from Pakistain and asked almost 3,000 to 4,000 families to leave the area. They (Pak military) said they are taking the area. They made the remarks and then started shelling on us," said Nazar Jan.

"There is no place for people to live in the area as all houses have been destroyed by the shelling. The rocket shelling (by Pak military) continues every day," said Dost Mohammad Mohmand, a resident of Lal Pur district said.

Lal Pur’s District Governor Nematullah Nawrozi confirmed the rockets shelling on the bordering areas in the province and said it is a clear violation of Afghanistan’s illusory sovereignty.

"This is a clear violation of international laws. Pakistain has done this violation in the past and is still doing it," Nawrozi said.

In the letter to the UN Security Council, the Afghan government raised the issue of "consistent violations of Afghanistan’s territory" by Pak forces and has called on the UN to initiate "necessary measures to address the matter at hand in an effective manner".

Sudan opposition leader sentenced to jail for protest
[PULSE.NG] A Sudanese emergency court Sunday sentenced an opposition leader to a week in jail as police detained several people intent on marching on parliament to protest a state of emergency.

Mariam al-Mahdi -- daughter of opposition Umma Party chief and ex-prime minister Sadiq al-Mahdi - was sentenced to a week in prison by an emergency court, Mohammed al-Mahdi, another of the party's leaders, told AFP.

Mariam al-Mahdi and her sister Rabah were among those locked away

earlier on Sunday.

Protest organisers had called for a march to challenge the state of emergency, imposed nationwide by President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
on February 22.

Bashir's move came after an initial crackdown on demonstrations that have taken place against his iron-fisted rule since December failed to rein in the protest movement.

The president has ordered a slew of tough measures to quell the demonstrations, including banning all unauthorised rallies and setting up special emergency courts to probe transgressions.

Sunday's procession was to start at the Umma Party's offices in the capital's twin city of Omdurman.

"As some of our leaders came out of the party office to lead the march, security agents arrested them," said Mohammed al-Mahdi, who is not connected to the former premier's family.

Many of those flooding out of IS territory are imported muscle and their families -- including some Moroccan women, according to AFP journalists on the ground.

The SDF wants imported muscle and their families to be repatriated by their countries of origin.

Sunday's operation had a "humanitarian character" and allowed the Moroccans to return to their home country safely, the ministry added.

In 2015, the number of Moroccans in jihadist ranks in Iraq and Syria was estimated at more than 1,600.

Those who return are arrested and receive sentences of 10 to 15 years in prison.

Syria's multi-fronted war has killed more than 360,000 and displaced millions since it erupted in the wake of the government's bloody repression of street protests in 2011.

Clashes break out in Yemen’s key port city after cease-fire
[AlAhram] Fighting erupted in Yemen’s key port city of Hodeida on Sunday, the first significant festivities since warring sides agreed to a UN-brokered cease-fire deal in December, security officials and eyewitnesses said.

Fires burned on the main front lines in the city’s east and south, while exchanges of artillery fire shook buildings in combat that broke out overnight, they said.

Both the Shia Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels who hold the city and the government-backed troops who oppose them have been seen erecting barricades and digging defensive trenches.

"All night long, we hear the loud roar of machine guns and artillery, which had been silent for the past two weeks," said resident Ahmed Nasser, adding that he was worried for relatives who had returned to the July 7 neighborhood on the city’s eastern front.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they weren’t authorized to brief journalists, while witnesses did so for fear of their safety. Ambulances were heard in the city after shelling hit residential neighborhoods, but it was unclear what casualties had resulted.

The fighting comes days after the internationally recognized Yemeni government, along with allies Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates, accused the Houthi rebel foes of breaking the cease-fire and refusing to withdraw their forces from the city in line with the December agreement.

Under the agreement, local authorities and police were to run the city and its three ports under UN supervision, after all sides pulled out their fighters. Both sides also agreed on a prisoner exchange, but neither of the deals have yet to be implemented.

Yemen’s government has been battling the rebels since 2014, when the Houthis swept down from the north and seized the capital, Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition entered the war on the side of the government in March 2015.

The stalemated conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and raised fears of famine.

Despite the Hodeida accord, which was signed in Sweden, fighting has also continued in other parts of the country. That too seemed to pick up on Sunday, with officials reporting fierce fighting between the rebels and pro-government rustics in the in the Kasher area of Hajjah province, where the Houthis took control of the town of Abaysa sending hundreds of civilians fleeing in panic.

Former provincial governor Fahd Dahshush in a statement accused the Houthis of detaining dozens of rustics and killing several prisoners, including one local politician by shooting him in front of his family.

Airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition opposing the rebels have killed dozens of their forces in the past days, the officials added, while trying to supply the rustics with food, medicine, arms and ammunition.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Suspected Palestinian burglar shot dead trying to run checkpoint
[IsraelTimes] Police said to find burglary tools, stolen goods in vehicle in Jordan Valley north of Jericho; two passengers leap from vehicle and escape.

A suspected Paleostinian burglar was shot to death by an Israeli policeman while attempting to run a checkpoint in the West Bank early Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred at a makeshift checkpoint set up at around 1 a.m. on Highway 90 in the Jordan Valley, just north of the Paleostinian city of Jericho, in response to reports of a suspicious vehicle on the road.

While a car was being inspected by officers, another vehicle in line behind it pulled out of the lane and rushed at the checkpoint in an apparent bid to escape inspection. The driver was wearing a face mask, police said.

One of the officers was in the path of the accelerating vehicle and reportedly believed he would be hit by the car. He called for the driver to stop and when he did not comply opened fire, police said in a statement. The gunfire mortally maimed the driver and caused the car to screech to a halt.

Two passengers then leaped from the car and escaped on foot.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by rescuers. The driver was identified as a resident of a nearby Paleostinian village. Police said they found burglary tools and suspected stolen goods inside the vehicle.

"Police troops and Sherlocks are working in the area to collect evidence and open an investigation," police said.

Highway 90 runs the length of the West Bank along the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea.
An Nahar adds:
The Paleostinian health ministry identified the man as Salamah al-Kaabneh, 22.

SDF resume offensive against ISIS in Baghouz, US Coalition airstrikes ISIS ammo dump

(ISIS) holy warriors corralled into a tent camp on the banks of the Euphrates River, the last corner of territory controlled by the group.

"Airplanes have targeted weapons depots of terrorists," SDF media officer Mustafa Bali announced on Twitter Sunday evening. There is "direct fierce fighting on the outskirts of the camp."

The offensive began at 6pm local time, he said. Two hours earlier, he had warned ISIS that time was up.

"The timeline that we [gave to] ISIS to surrender themselves is over," he had tweeted. "Our force is now ready to start and finish what is left in ISIS hands."

What remains of the so-called ISIS caliphate is a 500 square metre scrap of land covered in makeshift tents near the eastern Syrian village of Baghouz, a few kilometres from the border with Iraq. The holy warriors are besieged with Kurdish-led SDF on three sides and on the fourth the Euphrates River with regime forces beyond.

Tens of thousands of civilians ‐ including Yezidis and others who had been held captive by the jihadists for years ‐ and ISIS family members have evacuated the Baghouz area, nearly 20,000 in the past two and a half weeks alone. Hundreds of ISIS fighters have also surrendered.

But the number of people prepared to leave tent city before it becomes a battle zone has dwindled.

On Saturday, "only about 100 people left, including three Chinese Uighurs and three Moroccan women," Bali told AFP earlier in the day.

The SDF had paused operations and opened up an escape corridor to allow the civilians to get to safety. The force does not know how many fighters remain.

"Actually we don’t know how many ISIS fighters are in Baghouz, but we do know that the remaining ones are those who really want to fight. They are those who have come from abroad such as Europe, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
, Iraq and Asia," SDF spokesperson Adnan Afrin told Rudaw TV Saturday evening, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.
Also known as cannon fodder...
The SDF is backed by jets of the US-led coalition.

Afrin estimated that the holy warriors remaining are "not few."

Though the area of territory is small, it is difficult to estimate how many people are in the tent camp because the group is using tunnels.
A three minute long video filmed watching the camp before the offensive restarted can be seen here. English subtitles and stirring music available gratis.
The Times of Israel adds:
Around sunset, sniper fire was seen coming from IS positions, as the SDF pounded the area held by the extremists. An SDF commander who identified himself as Bilal said Sunday’s fighting “was the heaviest clashes he’d seen since then.”

The fighting came a day after an SDF official said they could soon resume the offensive against IS, adding that the battle could last three days. SDF official Aras Orkesh said on Saturday that about 2,500 fighters are ready for the battle in and around the eastern village of Baghouz, where IS fighters still have a presence.
And these happy details from Al Masdar:
ISIS was given until noon on Saturday to surrender their last positions, but the terrorist group refused to give up their small enclave in the Baghouz area of Deir Ezzor.

In response to the Islamic State’s obstinacy in surrendering their last positions, the U.S. Coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have resumed their assault against the terrorist group.

According to reports from the Deir Ezzor front, the U.S. Coalition has already conducted a number of Arclight airstrikes over the Baghouz Camp, resulting in several powerful kabooms that could be heard throughout the eastern region of the Euphrates.

Perhaps the most powerful kaboom reported from this front occurred this evening when the U.S. Coalition struck a weapons depot belonging to the Islamic State.

Intense firefights between the Islamic State and Syrian Democratic Forces are now ongoing at the Baghouz Camp axis, with heavy artillery and airstrikes still being provided by the U.S. Coalition.
Everyone has something to say. Herewith from Deutsche Welle:
It is still not known how many fighters, or civilians, are still in Baghouz. Some estimates suggest 500 fighters and up to 4,000 women and children could still be there.

Despite the assault on Baghouz, IS maintains a presence in Syria's vast Badia desert and has claimed a series of deadly attacks in SDF-held territory.

German-national IS fighters have a fundamental right to return to Germany, a spokesman for the interior ministry said last month. An estimated 1,050 German nationals have traveled to Syria and Iraq since 2013. About a third have already returned to Germany, according to authorities.

Turkish-backed rebel group’s attack ends in disaster as commander is killed by Syrian Army

... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in northwestern Hama on Saturday morning.

According to a military communique from the town of al-Suqaylabiyeh, Jaish al-Ahrar stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s 7th Checkpoint (Hajez al-Sabaa) on Saturday morning in order to inflict heavy casualties within the ranks of the government forces.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
the Jaish al-Ahrar attack would take a disastrous turn once they reached the checkpoint and found the Syrian Army positioned to defend the bully boy assault.

A fierce battle would ensue between the two sides at the 7th Checkpoint, resulting in at least five casualties for the Syrian Arab Army and many more for Jaish al-Ahrar.

Among the casualties for Jaish al-Ahrar was their commander, Abu Yusha Wastani (AKA Mohammad Hammoud al-Mahmoud), who was bumped off by the Syrian Arab Army during the battle.

After the loss of Abu Yusha Wastani, Jaish al-Ahrar abandoned their objective and retreated back to their lines in northwestern Hama.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Guards at the al-Hol refugee camp in northern Syria were left with no other choice but to resort to gunfire in order to pacify ISIS brides, who attempted to attack other women.

Foreign ISIS* women have tried to assault other female refugees, calling them "infidels" for not complying with the laws of the self-proclaimed caliphate at the displacement camp in northeast Syria.

"They yell at us that we are infidels for showing our faces. They tried to hit us. The foreigners throw stones", a Syria woman at the al-Hol camp told the Daily Mail.

A security official said that women and their children, who are still loyal to ISIS, have made threats towards other detainees and camp personnel forcing guards to fire in the air to stop a few fights. They also once used a taser to appease a foreign female jihadist, another Syrian woman claimed.

As a result, the Syrian Kurdish authorities who control the al-Hol camp, have made a decision to cordon off the foreign women to prevent any further festivities and protect Syrian and Iraqi refugees living among them.

"We put them in a section alone to avoid them making problems with the displaced. There are some who are more bully boy who don’t accept others. This is happening just among themselves because they are separated from the Syrians and Iraqis. The situation is under control", a camp official said.

The ISIS brides were reportedly transferred to the camp after the US-led offensive on one of the terrorist group’s last strongholds in Baghouz.

Before the final assault on Baghouz, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said it had captured over 800 foreign ISIS fighter and 2,000 of their wives and kids.

#2  Yes, and aim at full auto. A Pakistani once told me they will attack "Professionals" with women and children in their ranks to get close, they count on Pro's to hesitate to fire on women and children. The women and kids will full on with this tactic so you might as well kill them as they will die sooner or later anyway.

#3  Shortly after 9-11, some AQbigwig said "there are no civilians." We have been very stupid to ignore that truth...

Turkish-backed rebels attack strategic city in western Syria for first time this year
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels launched their first attack of the year on the key city of Masyaf in western Hama, a military source in nearby al-Suqaylabiyeh told al-Masdar on Sunday.

According to the military source, the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels fired Grad missiles and artillery shells towards Masyaf on Sunday afternoon, resulting in a number of kabooms that could be heard throughout the city.

In response to this attack on Masyaf by the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebel forces, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unleashed a heavy assault on the northern countryside of Hama.

The Syrian Arab Army reportedly launched a large number of artillery shells and missiles towards the Jaish al-Izza strongholds of Kafr Zita, Arba’een, and al-Latamnah.

These back-and-forth attacks between the Syrian Arab Army and Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels have been going on for several weeks now, despite attempts by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and Russia to put an end to these hostilities.

Both sides have accused one another of inflaming the situation inside the demilitarized zone that was agreed upon during the Sochi meeting on September 17th.
