Ethiopia: Al-Shabaab attack on ENDF base in Somalia successfully repelled
More on this story from yesterday.
[Garowe] The Æthiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] manning Dolow base in Western Somalia successfully repelled the al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
attack which would have been otherwise catastrophic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said, noting that the gunnies had tried to use jacket wallahs to initiate the attack.

Dolow town is found in the Gedo region and it is the same border point al-Shabaab tried to use while crossing over to Æthiopia last year, suffering immense losses in the process. Weapons used by the gunnies on Wednesday were completely destroyed by ENDF which responded swiftly, the ministry added.

"The Æthiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] stopped the attackers in their tracks before they could wreak havoc," Æthiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted.

It added: "The ENDF neutralized suicide bombers and destroyed weapons to be used by the terrorist group."

Multiple reports from residents confirmed that the first explosion by the gunnies occurred at a checkpoint outside the highly fortified base while the second explosion was activated several miles from the base. The gunnies have often targeted Æthiopian troops but are yet to have a significant breakthrough.

There are thousands of Æthiopian soldiers in Dolow, some of them not members of the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS] due to security measures that were adopted sometimes back. al-Shabaab gunnies have often tried to use the border to penetrate Æthiopian territory.

In a statement, al-Shabaab grabbed credit for the attack, saying they sent two vehicle-borne improvised bombs driven by suicide bombers. Four soldiers were seriously injured in the process, state media reported.

Osman Nuh Haji, a Somali regional security official, denied the report, telling VOA Somali that there were no casualties among soldiers or civilians and that troops destroyed a vehicle before it reached the base.

"The checkpoint is far from the base. When the car failed to stop, the soldiers fired shots in order to stop it," Haji said. "When that did not succeed and they realized that it was carrying explosives they destroyed it with a missile."

On May 26, al-Shabaab overran Bulo Marer Forward Operating Base in Somalia which is manned by Uganda People's Defense Forces [UPDF], killing 54 soldiers in the process.

The Somali National Army and foreign troops are set to activate the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab in Jubaland and Southwest states.

Massive fire breaks out in south Khartoum after clashes over ammunition factory
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A massive fire erupted at the gas depots in southern Khartoum on Wednesday, following intense battles over the control of the Yarmouk ammunition factory involving the use of heavy weapons and warplanes.

The fighting in the southern outskirts of Khartoum has been concentrated in the areas of Gabra, al-Shajara, and Abu Adam, which have been witnessing skirmishes since the beginning of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF attempted to seize military positions in these areas.

These three neighbourhoods encompass the Yarmouk industrial complex, the largest weapons and ammunition factory in Sudan, significant warehouses for fuel and gas storage, and the management of the armoured corps.

In a statement released Wednesday morning, the Rapid Support Forces declared they had taken control of the Yarmouk munitions factory. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
eyewitnesses reported that the army was able to retake control of the ammunition factory in the afternoon after receiving reinforcements.

Residents from neighbourhoods near the Yarmouk factory also released a video seen by Sudan Tribune showing a sizeable Sudanese army force in the streets, indicating that the troops were leaving after defeating the RSF fighters.

Following hit-and-run battles, Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s were conducted targeting the paramilitary forces south of Khartoum. The objective of the attack was presumed to be clearing the area of remaining RSF elements and preventing future attacks, considering the proximity of the armoured corps.

The Sudanese army did not issue a statement regarding the military operations in the areas south of Khartoum.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa suddenly spied Mr. Bartlett at the checkout counter. He was buying Grecian Formula!...
the flames from the fire engulfing the gas depots in the al-Shajara area were visible from approximately 15 kilometres.

The resistance committee in the Abu Adam area announced that the airstrikes hit gas and fuel depots, resulting in large fires breaking out in the area. The committee had previously confirmed hit-and-run operations between the army forces and the Rapid Support militia in the warehouse area and several squares in Abu Adam.

In a separate development, festivities resumed on Wednesday between the warring parties in Buri and Sharq al-Nil, east of the capital.

Sudanese warplanes bombed positions of the Rapid Support Forces in the al-Muwaileh livestock market, west of Omdurman, on Wednesday morning.

Since Monday, the army has deployed additional troops south of Omdurman and conducted sweeping operations there.

Orphanage in Khartoum evacuated after deaths
[AFRICANEWS] An orphanage in Sudan’s capital has been evacuated following the deaths of more than 70 infants, toddlers and older children from hunger and illness over the past couple of months, the U.N. children’s agency and a local charity said Wednesday.

The tragedy at the al-Mayqoma orphanage made headlines late last month as fighting raged outside between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

The deaths have highlighted the heavy toll inflicted on civilians since mid-April when the festivities erupted between forces loyal to Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan and RSF forces led by Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo.

About 300 children at the al-Mayqoma orphanage in Khartoum were transferred to a "safer location" elsewhere in the north-eastern African nation, said Ricardo Pires, a front man for the U.N. children’s agency, UNICEF.

Sudan’s ministries of social development and health have taken charge of the children, while UNICEF has provided humanitarian support including medical care, food, educational activities and play, Pires said in an email to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

He said the children had received medical checks following their long journey to their new location, adding that "any child requiring hospitalization will have access to healthcare."

The International Committee of The Red Thingy, which helped the evacuation, said 70 caretakers had also been transferred with the children to the new facility.

Anti-Trafficking Operation Takes Place in Libya's Zuwara
[LIBYAREVIEW] In an ongoing effort to control the human trafficking crisis, the Security Directorate of Zuwara announced on Tuesday the detention of over 40 undocumented migrants colonists.

The Directorate disclosed that it received intelligence regarding a group of human traffickers holding a number of migrants colonists inside a house in the city.

The Directorate was able to verify the location, and secured permission from the Public Prosecution to storm the premises. The Investigation and Arrest Committee of the Directorate, alongside members of local police centers, took over the operation.

It reported that the apprehended migrants colonists were of various Arab and African nationalities. It also seized suspects believed to be involved in transporting, and facilitating the migrants colonists’ journeys.

The Directorate noted that official records of the operation have been filed. The suspects have been detained, and referred to the competent Public Prosecution for further legal action.

On Thursday, the Italian Ministry of Interior announced a marked decrease in the arrival rate of unauthorized migrants colonists to Italia via sea routes in May.

The data showed that Libya overtook Tunisia as the primary transit point for these migrants colonists.

According to the ministry’s data, reported by the Italian NOVA agency, a total of 50,405 unauthorized migrants colonists reached Italia’s shores from the start of the year until 01 June. This figure represents a significant increase of 155.97% compared to 19,692 arrivals during the same period in 2022, averaging 334 arrivals per day.

Shocking moment Mexico military soldiers 'execute' five 'cartel members' after they crashed during a high-speed chase: Case is now in the hands of prosecutors with president saying the actions 'cannot be permitted'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Mexican President André Manuel López Obrador has vowed that a group of soldiers who were caught on camera 'executing' five alleged members of a criminal organization will be prosecuted.

The shocking video from May 18 showed the victims' black pickup truck crashing at a high speed into the wall of a store in the border town of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, across from Laredo, Texas. The military truck that was chasing it then crashed into the right side of the truck near the passenger door.

The men were forced out of the pickup, beaten, dragged across the dirt-covered ground, forced to kneel facing the wall and later shot before the soldiers tried to cover-up the scene.

'Apparently this was an execution, and that cannot be permitted,' López Obrador said Wednesday during his daily morning briefing at the National Palace in Mexico City. 'Those responsible are about to be turned over to the appropriate authorities.'

The victims were identified as José Ángel, 27; José Antonio, 32; Edgar Chavarría, 38; José Isabel, 23; and Clinton Alex, 25. The government didn't release their surnames.

The day of the incident leading up to the massacre, multiple shootouts and road blockades were reported to authorities although no injuries or deaths were registered. Nuevo Laredo Mayor Carmen Cantún took to social media to advise residents to shelter at their homes and places of employment until authorities had a better sense of the reported events.

According to the Mexican newspaper Proceso, lieutenant José Nava filed an incident report with the Ministry of National Defense and noted that his infantry had come under fire by purported members of the Cártel del Noreste (Northeast Cartel) while his troops inspected a pickup truck that was carrying the five victims. During the search, Nava said that the suspects tried to recover their weapons and were killed in a crossfire.

Iraq
Turkish Intelligence Neutralizes Senior PKK Leader and Two Members in Kurdistan Region Operation
[Shafaq News/ Ottoman Turkish intelligence neutralized a big shot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and two other members in a targeted operation conducted in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

According to Ottoman Turkish security sources cited by Anadolu Agency, Ottoman Turkish intelligence had been monitoring high-ranking PKK leaders through a local intelligence network in the region, which led them to identify a hidden location used by PKK members.

The operation specifically targeted Fahmi Ogmen, known as Sinan Dijvar, a prominent leader of the PKK. Ogmen, who had been affiliated with the PKK since 1993, was involved in carrying out terrorist activities both within The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and abroad. According to the sources, he was also responsible for overseeing various operations within Turkey.

In addition to Ogmen, two other PKK members were neutralized in operation: Mehmet Salih Cakal, known as Mazlum Kocer, and their driver Ahmed Muhammed Ali, known as Ararat Tolhildan.

The PKK has long been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, and the Ottoman Turkish authorities have been actively working to counter the presence and activities of the group, both domestically and in neighboring regions.

The successful neutralization of big shots and bully boyz within the PKK is seen as a significant achievement for Ottoman Turkish intelligence, as it aims to weaken the organization's operational capabilities and leadership structure.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel demolishes home of Palestinian suspect in Jerusalem attacks
[An Nahar]The Israeli army said on Thursday that it demolished the West Bank home of a Paleostinian involved in twin bombings in Jerusalem that killed two and maimed at least 18 others in November.

Israeli authorities arrested Islam Faroukh
...in the Rantburg archives as Eslam Froukh, an Israel-trained mechanical engineer. Resident in Kafr ‘Aqab in East Jerusalem, which got him an Israeli residence card, he built a bomb lab near Ramallah for the greater glory of ISIS...
in December on suspicion of carrying out the bombings, part of a more than year-long surge in violence in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

The army released video footage showing troops closing off the area and carrying out small controlled explosions, destroying an apartment in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah early on Tuesday.

The army said people threw rocks and fire bombs at troops, who returned fire. The Paleostinian Health Ministry reported one Paleostinian was moderately maimed by Israeli gunfire and treated at a local hospital.

Israel demolishes the homes of attackers in an attempt to deter others, a tactic critics say amounts to collective punishment.

The attack in November came after months of relentless violence in the West Bank, where the Israeli military has been conducting near-nightly raids in response to Paleostinian attacks against Israelis.

Turkish military movements in NW Syria spark speculation
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish forces deployed at more than 60 military posts in areas controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front) in northwestern Syria have, over the past few days, relocated many of their posts near the international Aleppo-Latakia Highway, also known as the M4.

These moves prompted renewed talk of the intention of the guarantor parties (Russia-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
) to reopen the M4 Highway, which connects Syria from west to east and cuts through 70km in Idlib.

Various opposition military sources and HTS-linked sources told North Press that Turkey’s movements in east and south Idlib are not for the purpose of reopening the international highway.

"Currently, it is not in Turkey’s interest, especially since it is in a strong position, unlike Russian forces fighting a fierce war in Ukraine," the sources stressed.

Mustafa Bakour, spokesperson for the ’Army of Glory’ (Jaish al-Izza), which is affiliated with the opposition, told North Press that the Ottoman Turkish forces’ repositioning of many posts to the contact lines with government forces, particularly in eastern Idlib, "is not a lead-up to the reopening of the M4 international route in agreement with Russia and the Syrian regime...It is quite the opposite."

Bakour noted that the purpose is "to take a more effective combat position in anticipation of a possible military action by the regime and Russia in light of Russia’s noncompliance to its agreements with Turkey in Astana."

He stressed that it is highly unlikely that the M4 will be opened in the near future "because Russia’s situation does not qualify it to put more pressure on Turkey, who currently has no interest in reopening and letting the regime benefit from it."

The M4 Highway runs from Latakia to Saraqib, southeast of Idlib. It also connects Ariha and Jisr al-Shughur in the southern and southwestern countryside of Idlib. Its length is 120 km. It arrives until Aleppo, and from there, it has been expanded as a two-lane expressway that continues further east into the Iraqi border, ultimately reaching its destination at djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
.

Bakour noted, regarding the intention of the Syrian government and Russia to launch a new military operation, "since 2020, the two parties have been preparing to control liberated areas, and, at the same time, the military factions in the region also get ready for the coming days."

"A military action against the Syrian regime will begin when the conditions are right, which was confirmed by the leader of the HTS, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, in a speech last week, when he vowed to control Aleppo city," he added.

Abu Muhommad al-Julani said late in May that the map of battles will be changed in Aleppo in the coming two years.

"Aleppo is the gate to Damascus and it will be under focus for one or two years," al-Julani added during the revolutionary conference of IDPs in Aleppo and Idlib.

Abu al-Tahir al-Halabi, a military commander in the Saad Brigade, affiliated with HTS, believes "there is no possibility" for opening the M4 now "because it would increase the legitimacy of the Syrian regime in the global arena."

He noted that "the opposition’s military factions attempt to impose their power on the ground to show they still have the power to return and reclaim what they have lost over the past few years in a short period."

He noted that the possibility of launching a military operation by armed factions in northwest Syria is "bigger than ever because it will enable them to strengthen their position in the international community, particularly the Arab world."

"Actually, if support is provided, it will be easier, especially if it is unconditional," he added.

Turkey military convoys to Syria’s Idlib continue flowing
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish forces sent on Wednesday a military convoy, including logistical and military equipment, to the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria.

Military sources told North Press that the Ottoman Turkish military convoy included more than 15 vehicles loading logistical and military equipment, and they entered Syrian territory through Kafr Losin border crossing with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and headed to Ottoman Turkish posts spread in Zawiya Mountain southern Idlib.

On January 14, Ottoman Turkish forces established its first helipad near its military base in the town of Balyoun in Zawiya Mountain, where around 55 Ottoman Turkish posts are situated.

This is taking place despite efforts paid towards thawing ties between Syria and Turkey following meetings in Moscow Syria, Russia, Iran

and Turkey.

Reports say that about 13,000 Ottoman Turkish soldiers present in northwest Syria in addition to hundreds of military vehicles distributed to more than 60 military posts.

Turkey has been sending further military reinforcements to Idlib since early this year in tandem with simmering military tension between Syrian government forces and Russia on one hand and the Ottoman Turkish-backed factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) on the other.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Ottoman Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment between Syrian government forces and opposition factions accompanied by Russian warplanes’ flight despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.

Adwan is being investigated in La Belle France following complaints by two former embassy employees. He has diplomatic immunity but could face trial if Leb

It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. Lebanon this week sent an investigation team to the embassy in Gay Paree to question the ambassador and hear statements from embassy staff.

Thursday's Foreign Ministry statement said the decision to recall Adwan also came "in light of" the dispatch of that team to La Belle France.

It said a charge d'affaires was appointed as head of mission on Wednesday.

A first former embassy employee, aged 31, had filed a complaint in June 2022 for a rape she says was committed in May 2020 in the ambassador's private apartment, sources close to the investigation told AFP earlier, confirming a report by the Mediapart news site.

According to the complaint, she had a relationship with the ambassador, who carried out "psychological and physical violence with daily humiliations."

The second woman, aged 28, made a complaint last February after what she said was a series of physical attacks after she turned down sexual relations.
