Afghanistan
Grenade Explosion at an Islamic Seminary in East Afghanistan Wounds Eight People
It remains to be revealed whether the school is either Sufi or Hazara Shiite, the usual targets for such attacks in recent years, usually at the hands of ISIS.
[KhaamaPress] According to the Taliban

province, in eastern Afghanistan.

The grenade explosion targeted an Islamic religious school called Zunoorain Usman, in Nangarhar province’s Rodat district, about 25 kilometers from Jalalabad city, the scenic provincial capital.

The injured have been sent to the nearby hospital, according to the security officials. One of them reportedly has a critical health condition.

Although no one has been arrested in relation to this attack, according to security officials, investigations have been undertaken to identify those responsible.

No one has grabbed credit for the attack. However,

The attack on the religious school in the eastern region of Afghanistan came at a time when religious scholars from across the country assembled in Kabul for the Taliban’s 3-day grand gathering which concluded today, Saturday, 2nd July.

Protesters rally in Spain, Morocco over migrant deaths
[Dawn] Demonstrators held rallies in several Spanish cities and in Rabat to protest over the deaths of 23 African migrants colonists who died in a crush trying to enter the Spanish enclave of Melilla in northern Morocco.

Thousands of protesters gathered in Barcelona, Malaga, Vigo and San Sebastian and in Melilla itself to denounce migration policies and the "militarisation of borders".

In the Moroccan capital, a few dozen representatives of the Collective of Sub-Saharan Communities in Morocco and associations helping migrants colonists demonstrated in front of parliament calling for Rabat to "stop playing the role of EU policeman".

"We demand an end to the migration policy funded by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, the opening of an independent investigation and the return of the bodies to the families," activist muppet Mamadou Diallo said.

"The Europeans colonised us and took everything from us to develop. Today, if we go to them, it means that we have the right to leave," he said.

Moroccan prosecutors have initiated proceedings against 65 migrants colonists, mostly Sudanese, accused of having taken part in the mass attempt to enter Melilla from Morocco a week ago.

At least 23 migrants colonists died when around 2,000, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa, tried to break through the fence into the Spanish enclave, according to Moroccan authorities, while NGOs say at least 37 bit the dust.

The corpse count was by far the worst recorded in years of attempts by migrants colonists to cross into Spain’s Ceuta and Melilla enclaves, which have the EU’s only land borders with Africa, making them a magnet for those desperate to escape grinding poverty and hunger.

1 migrant killed, 7 injured near Serbia-Hungary border
[AlAhram] A clash between two groups of migrants colonists near the Serbia-Hungary border left one person dead and seven others injured Saturday, Serbia's state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported.

The migrants colonists were stranded in northern Serbia while attempting to cross into the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
when the violence erupted like lava from a volcano. The injured were taken to a local hospital, including a 16-year-old girl who was maimed, Serbian media reports said, quoting doctors.

They said the clash, which included firearms, occurred in a forest near the border with Hungary. Police blocked off the area while conducting the investigation.

The clash also involved migrant smugglers from Afghanistan and Pakistain who take money to get them across the border, according to the media reports, which couldn't be independently verified.

Thousands of migrants colonists fleeing wars and poverty in Africa, Asia and the Middle East are stranded in the Balkans, one of the major European routes for those trying to reach Western Europe.

India-Pakistan
Houses razed as India steps up crackdown to stop unrest
From a month ago — India’s Moslems haven’t just been murdering the occasional uppity Hindu in response to something a politician said.
[Dawn] Authorities in India’s Uttar Pradesh state have demolished the homes of several people accused of involvement in riots last week triggered by derogatory remarks made by ruling party figures about the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), officials said on Sunday.

The offensive remarks have drawn condemnation from the Moslem world. Separately, Pakistain strongly condemned the heavy-handed treatment by the Indian authorities of Moslems who were registering a peaceful protest over the derogatory remarks.
“Mostly peaceful”, anyway.
In India-held Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, police arrested a youth for posting a video threatening to behead the ruling party’s former spokeswoman who had made some of the remarks, officials said. The video, circulated on YouTube, has been withdrawn by authorities.

Moslems have taken to the streets across India in recent weeks to protest against the comments by two members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Clashes have broken out between Moslems and Hindus and in some cases between protesters and police in several areas. Police in Uttar Pradesh arrested more than 300 people in connection with the unrest.

The BJP has suspended its spokeswoman Nupur Sharma and expelled another leader, Naveen Kumar Jindal, for the comments. Police have filed cases against the two and the government has said the comments do not reflect its views. Moslem groups have demanded their arrest, while some hardline Hindu groups label them as brave and nationalist politicians.

Over the weekend the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh state, Yogi Adityanath, ordered officials to demolish any illegal establishments and homes of people accused of involvement in riots there last week, the BJP’s state spokesperson said.

The house of an alleged criminal mastermind of the riots, whose daughter is a female Moslem rights activist muppet, was demolished amid a heavy police presence on Sunday. Properties of two more people accused of throwing stones after Friday prayers were also demolished in the state.

The state government, which named Mohammed Javed as the main suspect in the Friday protests against offensive remarks, razed down his house on Sunday evening. Javed was arrested and booked under the Gangster Act.

On Sunday, Jindal said his family faced continuous threats and some of his followers said a crude bomb was defused near his residence in capital New Delhi.

In the eastern state of West Bengal, authorities enforced an emergency law prohibiting public gatherings in the industrial district of Howrah until June 16. BJP’s West Bengal president on Sunday staged a sit-in protest and accused neighbouring Bangladesh of inciting violence in the state.

Chemist murder case: Mastermind Irfan Khan nabbed; 7 accused arrested, so far
[OneIndia] Maharashtra police have arrested the seventh accused and the criminal mastermind Sheikh Irfan Khan in connection with the murder of chemist Umesh Kolhe, said Nilima Araj, Police Inspector, City Kotwali PS, Amravati.

The accused have been identified as Sheikh Irfan Khan (32), Mudassir Ahmad (age 22), Shah Rukh Pathan (25), Abdul Thoufique (24), Shoaib Khan (22) Atib Rashid (22) and Yusufkan Bahadur Khan (44).

The crime branch of Amravati city police arrested Irfan Khan, a local resident, from Nagpur in the evening. He had allegedly hatched the conspiracy to murder Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe (54), who ran a medical shop in Amravati, and roped in others, said city police commissioner Dr Aarti Singh.

Kolhe was stabbed to death around 10.30 pm on June 21 near Ghantaghar in Shyam chowk area of Amravati. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Sali told news hounds that on the face of it, the killing was linked to certain posts that Kolhe had shared in WhatsApp groups, supporting Sharma who has been suspended by the BJP for making controversial comments about Prophet Mohammad.

Sali said some of the accused had watched Kolhe's movements for three days prior to the killing. Police arrested two of the accused on the basis of CCTV footage and also seized the knife used in the crime.

An NIA team visited Amravati on Saturday for probe. Earlier, the Union Home Ministry spokesperson tweeted that the probe has been handed over to the central probe agency. A team of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of state police from Aurangabad also visited the city, said an official. Kolhe's killing had taken place a week before two men hacked to death a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur before posting videos online saying that they were avenging an insult to Islam.

The NIA is also probing the killing of the Udaipur tailor, Kanhaiya Lal. As per the police, Kolhe was stabbed in the neck by the assailants who rode a cycle of violence when he was returning home on his two-wheeler after closing his medical shop.

Chemist murder: Victim's brother breaks his silence over the incident

[OneIndia] The brother of the chemist who was allegedly killed over social media posts in Maharashtra's Amravati city supporting Nupur Sharma said that the deceased had shared some posts on WhatsApp group related to Nupur Sharma, but wondered whether the murder was committed only for forwarding those messages.

The chemist, Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe, was killed on June 21.

"My brother forwarded some messages about Nupur Sharma in some Whatsapp groups but we're not able to understand why was he killed because of 2-4 forwarded messages? He didn't forward them to anyone individually," news agency ANI quoted Mahesh Kolhe as saying.

Explaining the incident, he said, "On June 21 night, while my brother was enroute to his home after shutting his shop, some people attacked him & he was stabbed with a knife. When I reached there, he was already dead: Mahesh Kolhe, brother of Umesh Kolhe who was murdered in Amravati, Maharashtra."

Mahesh Kolhe said that the deceased never mentioned about death threats. "We're yet to ascertain the reasons behind his murder. He never told us about receiving any threats. He forwarded some messages on Nupur Sharma in some Whatsapp groups, but not to anyone individually: Mahesh Kolhe, brother of Umesh Kolhe who was murdered in Amravati," he added.

Meanwhile, the government on Saturday decided to hand over the probe into the killing of the chemist to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), as the case was suspected to be a terror incident after it appeared that the victim was hacked to death for social media posts in support of Nupur Sharma who was suspended from the BJP following her remarks on Prophet Mohammad.

A Home Ministry spokesperson tweeted that the probe of the case relating to the "barbaric killing" of Kolhe has been handed over to the NIA.

The federal probe agency would thoroughly investigate the conspiracy behind the killing and involvement of organisations and international linkages.

Khole's killing had taken place a week before two men hacked to death Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur, with a cleaver at his shop before posting videos online saying that they were avenging an insult to Islam. That case is also being probed by the NIA.

The Maharashtra Police have so far arrested five people in connection with the Amravati killing and are looking for one Irfan Khan, who runs an NGO and is alleged to be the prime accused in the case.

According to the police, Kolhe had allegedly shared a post on some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma for her comments following which Khan is alleged to have hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him.

The incident occurred between 10 pm and 10.30 pm on June 21 when Kolhe was returning home on a two-wheeler after closing his shop.
A 54-year-old chemist was stabbed to death in Amravati city of Maharashtra, with the police suspecting that the accused committed the offence as the victim had allegedly shared a post on a social messaging platform in support of Nupur Sharma, whose remarks on Prophet Mohammad led to nationwide protests and global condemnation.

The chemist, Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe, was killed on June 21, and five persons have been arrested so far in this connection, an official said.

"Kolhe ran a medical store in Amravati city. He had allegedly shared a post on some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma for her comments. He even mistakenly shared the post in a WhatsApp group in which some Muslims were also members, including his customers," an official of the City Kotwali police station said.
Sent it to a Moslem chat group? That'll certainly get an unwelcoming response.
After that, Irfan Khan hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Kolhe and roped in five persons for it. He promised to give Rs 10,000 to them
...that’s less than $130...
and a safe escape in a car, he said.

Udaipur incident: 4 accused attacked outside court after being sent to 10-day NIA remand
[OneIndia] A court on Saturday sent all the four accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Udaipur to 10-day NIA (National Investigation Agency) remand.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the accused were attacked by an angry crowd of people while being escorted by police outside the premises of NIA court in Jaipur. The incident was caught on camera. As per PTI, a group of lawyers kicked and slapped them while hurling abuses as they were being taken to a prisoner's vehicle after being produced in the court. The clothes of one of the four accused were also torn and the agitated lawyers raised slogans against Pakistain and demanded the capital punishment for them.

There was heavy security deployment on the premises, but as the accused were being taken out of the court, the group of lawyers attacked them before police personnel somehow managed to hustle them into a waiting prisoner transport vehicle.

Hours after they allegedly beheaded the tailor with a cleaver at his shop and shared the clip of the incidents, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad were arrested by cops on Tuesday. In the clip, the accused claimed that they were avenging an insult to Islam as the victim had extended his support to Nupur Sharma through a social media post.

The two others, Mohsin and Asif, were nabbed on Thursday night for being involved in the conspiracy. They were produced before the court here amid tight security arrangements.

"The court ordered police remand till July 12," according to a lawyer.

There were heavy police arrangements on the court premises and several lawyers shouted slogans like "Pakistain Murdabad" and "Kanhaiya ke hatyaron ko fansi do" (give death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
to Kanhaiya's killers).

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) transferred the probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to explore if there is any terror angle.

Udaipur incident: Curfew relaxed for 4 hours, 10-hour relief to be given on Sunday

[OneIndia] The Udaipur district administration on Saturday relaxed the curfew for four hours which is imposed in seven police station areas in the wake of the killing of a tailor, officials said. Mobile internet services, however, remained suspended. With the situation gradually returning to normal, the curfew will be relaxed for 10 hours on Sunday, the officials said.

Two men hacked to death a tailor, Kanhaiya Lal, with a cleaver at his shop in the Dhan Mandi area here on Tuesday to avenge an "insult to Islam". Following the incident, curfew was imposed in areas falling under the limits of seven police stations -- Dhan Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Hathi Pole, Amba Mata, Suraj Pole, Bhupalpura and Savina.

"Curfew in the city was relaxed from 12 pm to 4 pm today. Relaxation from 8 am to 6 am will be given on Sunday," Udaipur Collector Tara Chand Meena said. The decision to relax the curfew was taken after reviewing the situation, official sources said.

With the peaceful conduct of Friday's Jagannath Rath Yatra, in which thousands participated, the administration decided to relax the curfew on Saturday, they said.

The BJP leader said that a financial assistance of Rs 30 lakh will also be given to the family of Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe who was killed in Amravati in Maharashtra.
On Friday, judges from the Supreme Court of India stated Sharma must apologise to the whole nation after the remarks intensified religious fault lines in India, angered Muslim nations and triggered diplomatic strains.

In India, at least two demonstrators were killed in police fire during protests against Sharma's comments.

Police in New Delhi arrested journalist Mohammed Zubair, a vocal critic of the Modi government, who had helped draw attention to Sharma's remarks through his fact-checking website Alt News and on social media.

A senior NIA official in New Delhi said they were questioning Muslims linked with the four suspects in Udaipur to identify whether they had links with militant networks. Muslims living about 3 kilometres from the tailor's shop where the victim was killed said they felt nervous and feared a social and economic boycott by powerful Hindus residing in Udaipur.

"I know what has been done is barbaric but the community should not be held responsible for the deed of two people," said Mohammad Farukh, a medical representative living in a Muslim-dominated area of the city.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board called the incident "highly condemnable", adding that it was against both Indian law and Islamic strictures.

BJP vehemently denies link to Udaipur killer

[OneIndia] The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly denied links to one of the killers in the Udaipur case. The denial came after the Congress took to the social media to draw the connection.

Sadiq Khan, the chief of the BJP's minority wing in the state said at a news conference that the party has no links to either of the accused. He said that the killing was a failure of the Congress government in Rajasthan.

The Congress alleged that one of the main accused in the brutal killing of a Hindu tailor in Udaipur is a BJP member.

"The killer of Kanhaiya Lal, Riyaz Attari is a member of the BJP," senior Congress leader Pawan Khera said while citing a media report.

"I am not surprised that you are peddling #FakeNews. The Udaipur murderers WERN'T members of the BJP. Their attempt to infiltrate was like the LTTE assassin's attempt to enter the Congress to kill Rajiv Gandhi," the BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya said while dubbing it as fake news.

Khera at a news briefing cited pictures and posts linking Akthari to the BJP leaders Irshad Chainwala and Mohammad Tahir.

"It has also come to the fore in the same disclosure that the main accused Riyaz Attari often participated in the programmes of Rajasthan BJP leader and former minister Gulabchand Kataria. Not only this, but pictures of the main accused Riyaz Attari attending the meetings of the BJP's Rajasthan minority unit are also in front of the world," Khera said.

IDF shoots down 3 Hezbollah drones heading for Karish gas field
[IsraelTimes] Military says one UAV downed by F16 fighter jet, the other two by missiles launched from ship; terror group has warned it will attack site; Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
claims field is disputed

The Israel Defenses Forces said Saturday it successfully intercepted three drones flown by the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group that were heading for the Karish gas field off Israel’s Mediterranean coast.

Tensions have risen over the site in recent weeks, after a gas production vessel arrived in Israel to launch extraction operations in the offshore field, drawing condemnation from Lebanon, which had laid claim to parts of it. Israel says Karish is in part of its UN-recognized exclusive economic zone.

One of the Hezbollah aircraft was downed by an F16 fighter jet, and the other two by Barak 8 missiles launched from the Saar 5 Class Corvette INS Eilat, the military said in a statement.

Saturday’s incident marked the first operational drone interception by Barak 8 missiles from a navy ship.

The UAVs were intercepted "at a safe distance from" the drilling platform, according to defense officials.

Hezbollah’s chief His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
recently threatened Israel over plans to extract gas from the contested offshore reserve, saying that his organization is capable of preventing such action, including by force.

But the military said a preliminary investigation showed that the drones did not pose a "real threat" at any point during their flight, indicating they were not armed and instead were used for surveillance purposes or to prove they have the capability.

The terror group later confirmed it launched the three unarmed drones, saying they were intended to carry out a "reconnaissance mission" in the area.

Hezbollah added that the mission was accomplished successfully and " a message was conveyed."

The IDF said the UAVs were "identified at an early stage and monitored throughout their flight by air control units" and "intercepted at the most appropriate operational point."

"You have permission, take the UAV out now," a senior officer is heard saying over the phone at the Navy’s operational headquarters, in a video published by the IDF.

Lebanon and Israel — which have no diplomatic relations and consider each other enemy states — have been holding indirect talks brokered by the US for close to two years to resolve a maritime border dispute.

Talks over the field have been frozen since last year, after Lebanon tried to move its claim further into the zone Israel claims as its own. Last month, the Biden administration (aka the Wilmington comorra)
...the collection of boodlers, grifters, hangers-on, and self-proclaimed experts affiliated with the Biden Crime Family. Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
said recent meetings held between its energy envoy and Israeli and Lebanese officials have resulted in progress.

Israel and Lebanon have no diplomatic relations and are technically in a state of war. They each claim about 860 square kilometers (330 square miles) of the Mediterranean Sea as being within their exclusive economic zones.

Both Israel and Lebanon have economic interests in the territory, which contains lucrative natural gas. Lebanon, which has been facing an economic crisis since late 2019, sees the resources as a potential road out of its current situation.

Also last month, the IDF held a major military exercise in Cyprus, simulating a ground offensive deep inside Lebanon in a potential war against the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The terror group has long been a significant adversary for the IDF, with an estimated arsenal of nearly 150,000 rockets and missiles that can reach anywhere in Israel.

US feds charge pro-Palestinian protester with hate crime for antisemitic attack
[IsraelTimes] Saadah Masoud allegedly beat a Jewish man who was holding an Israeli flag in April, causing a concussion; is also accused of attacking two other Jews last year.

A pro-Paleostinian activist muppet has been charged with a hate crime in US federal court for an antisemitic attack in New York City in April. Investigators said he also attacked two other Jews in separate incidents last year.

Saadah Masoud was charged in the US Southern District of New York last month, according to newly released court documents. The request for an arrest warrant from US Attorney’s Office Sherlocks said Masoud repeatedly punched his victim — who was holding crutches — and dragged him across a sidewalk, causing injuries, including a concussion. He carried out the attack because of the "perceived national origin or religion" of the victim, who was wearing an Israeli flag at the time of the attack, Sherlocks said.

Syria says Israeli jets conduct rare daytime airstrike on southern coast, targetted weapons shipped to Hezbollah or new Iranian air defence system
[IsraelTimes] Two civillians hurt after missiles strike in al-Hamidiyah near Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch...
border, state broadcaster says

Israel carried out a rare daylight Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
along the southern Syrian coast on Saturday morning, Syria’s state-run broadcaster SANA said. injuring two people.

There was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces, in line with its policy of not generally commenting on air raids in the country.

Quoting a military source, SANA said the missiles were launched by Israeli fighter jets over the Mediterranean Sea, west of the north Lebanon city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, at the Syrian town of al-Hamidiyah, south of Tartus.

According to SANA, "poultry farms" were targeted in the airstrike, and two civilians were hurt. Their conditions were not immediately clear. Damage was also caused to the site.

Syria often claims targets of Israeli strikes as being non-military.

Israel has staged hundreds of strikes on targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. It says it targets bases of Iran-allied militias, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah group that has fighters deployed in Syria, as well as arms shipments believed to be bound for various proxies.

While alleged Israeli attacks in Syria typically take place under the cover of darkness, Saturday’s strike was allegedly conducted at around 6:30 a.m. while the sun was out, according to SANA.

Israeli strikes have continued in Syrian airspace, which is largely controlled by Russia, even as ties with Moscow have deteriorated in recent months. Israel has found itself at odds with Russia as it has increasingly supported Ukraine while seeking to maintain freedom of movement in Syria’s skies.

Saturday’s strike marked the first such raid attributed to Israel under Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who entered the role on Friday morning.

The last strike in Syria attributed to Israel was on June 10, when the Damascus International Airport was targeted in a major attack and forced to be shuttered for two weeks, following accusations by Israel that Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
had been smuggling weaponry to the Lebanese Hezbollah terror group, via civilian flights to Syria.

More from The Times of Israel:
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based opposition group of unclear funding, said Saturday’s strike targeted weapons en route to the Hezbollah. The claim was not confirmed by any other organizations.

While alleged Israeli attacks in Syria typically take place under the cover of darkness, Saturday’s alleged strike was conducted at around 6:30 a.m., during daylight hours.

Video footage broadcast by SANA showed rubble at what it said was the site of the targeted facility.
An Nahar adds:
An Israeli airstrike targeted suspected Hezbollah posts in Syria's coastal Tartus province on Saturday morning, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Observatory said the facility that was struck, near Lebanon's border, had formerly been used to keep farm animals but was now being used by Lebanon's Hezbollah for military and commercial purposes.

"The Israeli enemy carried out an air strike" at about 6:30 am near the town of al-Hamidiyah, the ministry said in a statement, identifying the locations hit as poultry farms, without elaborating.

The strike "led to the injury of two civilians, including a woman," the ministry said in a statement.

Al-Hamidiyah is located south of Tartus, a bastion of the Syrian government and home to a naval port used by Russia, whose armed forces have backed the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the airstrike on Saturday targeted "warehouses formerly used to raise animals, and which the Lebanese Hezbollah group was using to transport weapons."

Syrian air defense systems do not appear to have been deployed, said the British-based monitor, which has a wide network of sources inside Syria.

Alleged Israeli strike in Syria targeted ‘game changing’ Iranian air defenses — TV

[IsraelTimes] After airstrike Saturday morning, unsourced report names IRGC commander allegedly leading ‘new effort’ to deploy Iranian systems in Syria

An airstrike Saturday in Syria that was attributed to Israel targeted Iranian attempts to bring “game changing” air defense systems to Syria, Israeli television reported.

According to Channel 12 news, the location of the morning strike, which hit the Syrian town of al-Hamidiyah near the port city of Tartus, “implies that it [targeted] a weapon transported by sea, possibly using Iranian ships that docked at the port last week.”

The report added that the strike came amid “a new move by the Iranians in Syria to bring in air defense system to protect their military interests.”

The network provided no source for the assessment.

Military officials have said in the past that Syria has improved its air defense capabilities with upgraded Iranian-made components. In a 2018 strike, Israel reportedly targeted a soon-to-be-deployed Iranian advanced air defense system.

Channel 12 said Saturday that this “new effort” was being led by a senior commander in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in cooperation with the Syrian army, with the aim of enabling Tehran to operate its own air defense systems in Syria.

The network named the IRGC officer as Farid Mahmads Sakai, saying “it’s no coincidence his name is being published now.” No details were provided on where the officer’s name was published nor any further information on his rank and position.

Israel has staged hundreds of strikes on targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations. It says it targets bases of Iran and allied militias, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah group that has fighters deployed in Syria, as well as arms shipments believed to be bound for various proxies.

In another unsourced report, Channel 12 said two explosions occurred at an IRGC base southeast of Tehran, causing “extensive damage” on Friday night.

There has been no official comment on the incident, which was widely circulated on social media and picked up by the opposition supporting Iran International, which is based in London.
