[Dawn] A manhunt was under way Monday for Talibs who publicly executed a woman accused of adultery, Afghan authorities said, as outrage mounted after a video of the cold-blooded killing surfaced.

The brutal shooting of the lone woman before a cheering mob of men is shown in graphic detail in a video of the event in a village in Parwan province some 100 kilometres north of the capital Kabul.
"We have sent a police force to the area," Parwan provincial governor Basir Salangi told AFP, adding that the government had no permanent presence in the valley.
"They are searching for the Taliban who are responsible but the Taliban, including the killer, have fled to the mountains."
Roshna Khalid, Salangi's spokeswoman, separately told AFP the 22-year-old woman, named as Najiba, was married to a member of the hardline Islamist Taliban and was accused of adultery with a Taliban capo.
"Within one hour they decided that she was guilty and sentenced her to death. They shot her in front of villagers in her village, Qol," she said.
Public executions of alleged adulterers were common when the Taliban regime was in power from 1996 until 2001, when they were ousted by a US-led invasion for harbouring Al Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden ... who walked in the Valley of the Shadow of Death and didn't make it out... after the 9/11 attacks.
The Taliban have since waged an insurgency against the Western-backed government of President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai ... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
"There has been too much progress made by too many brave Afghans, especially on the part of women, for this kind of criminal behaviour to be tolerated," Allen said.
The video also drew international condemnation, with British Foreign Secretary William Hague saying he was "shocked and disgusted" by the execution.
"Such deplorable actions underline the vital need for better protection of the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan," he said.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another William H. Seward ... , before the video surfaced, made a powerful plea Sunday for the rights of women in Afghanistan, amid fears that recent gains for women are under threat as NATO troops prepare to leave in 2014.
Clinton, who was addressing a world conference in Tokyo on Afghanistan's future, said: "The United States believes strongly that no nation can achieve peace, stability and economic growth if half the population is not empowered."
President Hamid Karzai's government condemned the killing as "un-Islamic and inhuman", ordering police to find and bring to justice those responsible.
The video opens with the woman, wrapped in a grey shawl, sitting at the edge of a ditch in a village surrounded by dozens of men, some perched on rooftops for a better view.
As she sits with her back to the crowd a bearded man is seen reading verses from the Koran condemning adultery, before saying: "We cannot forgive her, God tells us to finish her."
The video then shows a man in white being handed an AK-47 rifle.
Some local reports said the shooter was the woman's husband but Khalid, the governor's spokesperson, told AFP that he was a relative of the victim's husband.

[An Nahar] A clash broke out on Monday in the disputed territory of Abyei when South Sudanese celebrated their first independence anniversary, a source familiar with the incident said.
There were no injuries but a shop was burned and United Nations ...an international organization whose stated aims of facilitating interational security involves making sure that nobody with live ammo is offended unless it's a civilized country... peacekeepers had to intervene to stop the unrest in Abyei town between members of the Dinka and Misseriya communities, said the source, who requested anonymity.
"When South Sudanese were celebrating, the Misseriya came," he said.
The nomadic and Arab Misseriya are historically allied to Khartoum.
"It is a small clash between the two communities," the source said.
The status of Abyei was the most sensitive matter left unresolved before South Sudan's independence on July 9 last year.
After fighting along the disputed border between Sudan and South Sudan in March and April this year, the U.N. Security Council ordered a ceasefire and called on the two sides to resume talks on critical issues, including Abyei.
Following the latest round of talks which closed on Saturday in the Æthiopian capital Addis Ababa, chief mediator Thabo Mbeki ...former president of South Africa, succeeding Nelson Mandela. He now pops up periodically as a mediator when something catches fire in Africa... praised the two sides for their renewed commitment to peace.
Under the U.N. resolution both countries also withdrew their armed forces from Abyei.

[Tripoli Post] While Libya celebrates the success of its historic even on Saturday with the first free elections in the country for 60 years, and is eagerly awaiting the outcome of the people's vote, early Monday morning somebody placed a bomb on the tomb of Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi at the Sahaba Mosque in Derna causing what could be irreparable damage to the monument to the seventh century commander who helped bring Islam to the region. No casualites have been reported.
Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi is revered in Libya as he was one of the leaders who helped bring Islam to North Africa. He succeeded Uqbah bin Nafi who was martyred in 63 as he fought in North Africa.
Al Balawi managed to defeat and killed the king of the Berbers, Kaseelah.
Salafists ...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them... have been blamed by angry locals for the bombing which happened about 7 a.m. The bomb destroyed the building over Balawi's grae but the actual grave is reported not to have been damaged.
Nobody has taken responsibility for the kaboom, but fingers of blame are being pointed at a small group of Safalists who are known to be very active in Derba. They refused to pray in the mosque because of Zuhayr Ibn Qais Al-Balawi tomb.
Salafists are also blamed for previous other activity since the end of the Qadaffy regime, that has been of great concern to the Libyan authoritis and people. Since a few months they also attacked a number of Sufi shrines in the country, including that hat of Sidi Abdul-Salam Al-Asmar Al-Fituri in Zliten.

[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Weekend raids by gunmen in a central Nigerian state left more than 100 dead, an official said Monday, as the governor widened a curfew to restore calm in the flashpoint area.
Plateau state falls in Nigeria's so-called "Middle Belt," where the mainly Christian south meets the majority Muslim north, which has been the site of waves of sectarian violence in recent years.
The weekend attacks were blamed on gunmen from the Fulani, a pastoralist, Muslim ethnic group with long-standing land rights grievances and resentment against the state's mostly Christian leaders who control political power.
At least 80 died when Fulani herdsmen raided several villages on Saturday, the spokesman for the state's governor, Pam Ayuba, told AFP.
On Sunday, they stormed a graveyard in Barkin-Ladi, roughly 90 kilometres (56 miles) from the state capital, where some of the victims of the previous day's attack were being buried, Ayuba added.
Among those killed in the graveyard assault were federal senator Gyang Dantong, majority leader of the state's legislature Gyang Fulani, as well as at least 20 others, Ayuba further said.
Both politicians were members of the mostly Christian Birom ethnic group, according to officials and police.
After news spread that the politicians had been killed, mobs set up roadblocks in several areas, prompting Governor Jonah Jang to impose an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew in four districts.
That curfew was extended on Monday, with residents only allowed out between midday and sundown.
"More resources, more personnel and more logistics," have been sent to the area to enforce the curfew and maintain order, national police spokesman Frank Mba told AFP.
Nigeria's police chief also visited on Monday to conduct an assessment. The recent bloodshed in Plateau has been caused by several concurrent conflicts.
Biroms and other mainly Christian ethnic groups are viewed as the indigenes in the region, while Hausa-Fulani Muslims are seen as the more recent "settlers" despite the fact that many have been there for decades.
Biroms fear that Hausas -- a much larger ethnic group throughout Nigeria as a whole -- will eventually be allowed to dominate an area they see as their own.
Fulani have themselves been victims of much of the violence, an official from the Fulani cattle breeders association (MACBAN) told AFP.
"Due to the loss of family members and their cattle, many Fulani lead a useless life, they are just vegetative, and we know the dangers of that," said Saleh Bayeri, the MACBAN national secretary and Jos resident of Fulani origin.
He said it was "possible" that the Fulani who have lost their land, including vital grazing areas, "may have been the ones launching reprisal attacks."
Aside from the Fulani conflict, the divided state has seen sectarian strife between Muslim and Christian groups, much of it concentrated around the capital Jos, with more than 1,000 killed since 2009, according to rights groups.

[Dawn] Two Shiites were killed in overnight festivities with police in the eastern Saudi province of Qatif following the arrest of a prominent Shiite holy man and government critic, activists said on Monday.
Akhbar Shakuri and Mohammed Filfel died and a dozen other protesters were maimed during the festivities that erupted when police opened fire to disperse a demonstration against the arrest of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, said the activists.
The violence occurred in Riyadh Street, the main artery of Qatif city, they said. The reports could not be independently verified.
The interior ministry described Nimr as an "instigator of sedition" as it announced that he was tossed in the slammer Book 'im, Mahmoud! at Al-Awamiya in Eastern Province on Sunday, after being maimed in the leg while putting up resistance.
He was transferred to hospital and was due to be interrogated, ministry front man Mansur Turki said, cited by the official SPA news agency.
The new deaths bring to nine the number of people killed in festivities between Saudi authorities and protesters in the Shiite-populated region.
Nimr is considered one of the main advocates of demonstrations that first took place in February 2011 after an outbreak of violence between Shiite pilgrims and inquisitors religious police in the holy city of Medina.
The protests escalated after the kingdom led a force of Gulf troops into neighbouring Bahrain to help crush a month-long Shiite-led uprising against the country's Sunni monarchy.

[Yemen Post] A tribal mediation managed on Sunday to set free commander of the 62nd Republican Guard Brigade, Brigadier General Murad Al-Awbali, who was kidnapped ten days ago by angry soldiers from Khawlan tribe, local sources affirmed.
The sources made it clear that the mediation pledged to meet the demands of the kidnappers who request to their salaries that were suspended after they declared their support to Yemen's uprising.
Tribal tensions had broke out last week between Khwalan and Sanhan tribes following the abduction of Al-Awbali by soldiers from Khawlan, local sources said. For its side, Sanhan which Al-Awbli releates to kidnapped a number of persons who are from Khwlan in an attempt to put pressures on the kidnappers to release Al-Awbali. Al-Awbali, a loyalist to former president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh ... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it... and his son Ahmed, is accused of committing crimes against protesters in the southern province of Taiz. Taiz protesters demonstrated repeatedly, demanding to hold al-Awbali accountable.
He was appointed Ahmed Saleh as a commander of the 62 brigade by after the protests calling for his arrest and prosecutions increased.
President Abdurabu Mansour Hadi ...the second and possibly the last president of Yemen, successor to former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh... replaced about high-ranking generals of Saleh's relatives and loyalists in a bid to implement reforms in the army, but the well-equipped military units, the Republican Guard, are still run by Saleh's son, Ahmed.
After carrying out reforms in army and security services, the Yemeni army could defeat al-Qaeda in some districts of Abyan ...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues... governorate.

Two villagers from Cheran municipality were kidnapped Sunday as an ongoing conflict in a remote mountain municipality in Michoacan state has heated up again, according to Mexican news accounts.
A news report posted on the website of El Sol de Zacatecas news daily said that Urbano Macias Rafael, 48, and Guadalupe Geronimo Velazquez, 28, had gone to a location north of the plains of Carichero to retrieve cattle when masked armed suspects abducted them.
A telephone call was received by family members that day from individuals claiming to be from El Cerecito claiming responsibility for the abduction.
According to the article, a member of the Cheran municipal council said the reaction of villagers in Cheran was immediate. Trinidad Ninís Pahuamba claimed she and other Cheran municipal officials have been holed up in the town hall, the building cordoned off by local villagers and family members of the kidnap victims, who are refusing to allow them to leave. Michoacan state governor's office and the Michoacan state Secretaria de Gobierno (SEGOB) had been contacted, but no response has yet been received.
Villages in Cheran have fought a variously hot-cold conflict, the issues of which surround charges of illegal logging by the villagers of El Cerecito and a nexus with organized crime, and accusations of criminal conduct by Cheran villagers including illegal road tolls, car theft, carjacking, kidnapping and petty theft.
Last April the conflict went hot as a total of eight individuals were killed, six from El Cerecito and two from Cheran. The state government of Michoacan has intervened several times in the last six months to bring resolution to some of the conflicts.
Both communities are remote mountain indigenous Indian communities. A federal presence exists in the area in the form of Policia Federal road patrols.
Michoacan state is one of the most heavily fortified states in Mexico with a total of 8,000 Mexican Army troops deployed in the state since March, 2012.

A total of seven Sinaloa state police agents and four armed suspects were killed Monday in an ambush in El Fuerte municipality in Sinaloa state, according to Mexican news accounts.
A news item posted on AnimalPolitico.com Monday said that Sinaloa state ministerial police agents exchanged gunfire with armed suspects in an ambush on the Los Mochis to El Fuerte road near the village of Tetamboa in El Fuerte municipality. In addition to the seven ministerial agents killed, four other police agents were wounded in the ambush.
News reports late last week said the Mexican federal security forces had or were planning to redeploy to Choix municipality following gunfights in Choix which killed two and wounded three. Other news reports added that four unidentified individuals were found shot to death near the village of Lorita. Choix has as recently as last May been the scene of some of the bloodiest intergang fighting since the summer of 2010. That fighting involved drug gangs from the Sinaloa Cartel, Juarez Cartel, Beltran-Leyva Cartel and Los Zetas drug gang.
El Fuerte is directly southwest of Choix municipality.
According to the Animal Politico news item, three days before the latest encounter Sinaloa governor Mario Lopez Valdez said state police forces would begin to enter Choix.
According to a news item posted on the website of El Debate news daily, among the four dead armed suspects was John Paul Lizarraga, AKA The Hundred, a local operative with the Beltran-Leyva drug cartel, which operates in the El Fuerte and Choix municipality. Along with the body, police found grenades, one Barrett .50 caliber rifle and two AK-47 rifles.
The El Debate news item also said that 200 effectives including Sinaloa state police agents, Policia Federal and Mexican military were in El Fuerte.

[Dawn] Six gunnies, allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom incidents, were killed in an encounter with the Frontier Corps personnel in Mastung district on Saturday night, officials said.
A Frontier Corps official told Dawn that FC personnel raided hideouts of suspected criminals in Kabo and Sapalanji areas of Mastung district and Pir Ghaib mountainous area of Bolan district.
He said kidnappers, highway robbers and car thieves had been using these areas as their hideouts.
The official said that during the raid in Mastung an exchange of fire took place between gunnies and FC personnel in which six alleged
criminals were killed, adding that a doctor kidnapped from Mastung on July 3 was freed.
He said some suspects were jugged Book 'im, Mahmoud! who were being interrogated and a large quantity of arms and ammunitions was seized from the criminals' camps. The official did not give the number of people rounded up during the gunbattle.
Official sources said gunnies had set up camps in mountainous areas of Bolan and Mastung districts and took refuge there after committing crime and kidnapping people in different parts of Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
"Ringleaders of criminal gangs escaped during the operation. However, alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk... the operation has been extended to other areas to trace and arrest them," the sources said.
They said that law-enforcement agencies personnel continued to comb the mountainous area till the filing of this report on Sunday.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and police in the Arizona city of Tempe have locked away Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! 20 members of a criminal gang linked to Mexico's powerful Sinaloa narco mob, authorities said.
In addition to the arrests, made within the scope of "Operation Nayarit Stampede," authorities also confiscated $2.4 million in cash, an airplane, 10 vehicles, three tons of marijuana and 30 pounds of methamphetamine.
The gang was led by three individuals identified as Leonel Galvez Leal, Norberto Meza Montoya and José Alonzo Rodríguez Rosas, the Tempe Police Department said in a media release Friday.
The investigation began six months ago when police in Tempe, a city in southwestern Arizona, learned of the existence of purported stash houses used to store drugs for eventual delivery to customers in that city, as well as in New York, Alabama, Caliphornia and other states.
The special agent in charge of the DEA field office in Phoenix, Doug Coleman, said the operation dismantled an organization that operated along the U.S.-Mexico border and in the interior of the United States.

Around 15,000 protestors gathered outside the parliament to chant anti-US slogans and wave the banners of the Difa-e-Pakistain Council (DPC), a coalition of right wing and hardline religious groups which organised the protest march from the eastern city of Lahore.
Islamabad agreed to reopen overland routes to NATO convoys last week after a seven-month blockade sparked by a botched US air raid on a border post that killed 24 Pak soldiers.
The DPC has attracted large turnouts at recent rallies across the country, which some see as a build up to the formation of a political party to contest the next general election, widely expected within the next year.
Coalition chairman Maulana Samiul Haq ...leader of his own faction of the JUI. [Dawn] Unidentified armed persons rubbed out an assistant sub-inspector of police on Charsadda Road in the limits of Khazana cop shoppe here on Sunday.
ASI Mir Afzal Khan, posted in Bhana Mari cop shoppe, was travelling in his Suzuki van along with his two children when assailants attacked him. He was killed on the spot after receiving several bullets in different parts of his body. The arm of the driver of the slain police official was also injured in the attack. However, we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by... both of his sons remained unhurt in the incident.

[Dawn] An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement ...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead... was bumped off in Orangi Town on Sunday, police said.
They said that the body of Mohammad Nafees, 28, was found in Islamia Colony within the remit of the Pirabad cop shoppe.
The victim was shot in the head. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The police said that initial information suggested that the victim had gone missing late Saturday night in Qasba Colony and his body was found on Sunday morning.
They said that he was an activist of Orangi Town's unit 164 of the MQM's organizational structure.

Three bodies found
Three bodies were found in Lyari, Nazimabad and Azizabad No 2 on Sunday, police said.
The body of a young man was found in a garbage dump within the remit of the Kalri cop shoppe in the morning. It was shifted to the Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The police said that the body bore torture marks and the victim had also been shot in the head.
Later, the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
The body of another young man was found at a desolate place in Nazimabad on Sunday evening, police said.
They said that the trussed-up body was found near Gujjar Nullah in Nazimabad No 2 within the remit of the Gulbahar cop shoppe. The young man was blindfolded and was shot in the head.
Clad in shalwar-kameez, the man seemed to have hailed from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where it was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
The police said that apparently the culprits had thrown the body from a moving car.
Meanwhile, ...back at the pound, Zebulon finally found just the friend he'd been looking for... the body of an unidentified young man, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found in Azizabad No 2 on Sunday night, police said.
They said that the victim, clad in shalwar-kameez, had been shot in the head.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Later, the body was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification, the police said.
Stray bullet kills boy
A 10-year-old boy was killed after a stray bullet pierced through his body in Jacob Lines on Sunday.
A duty officer at the Brigade cop shoppe said that Mohammad Rizwan had gone out of his house to buy something when he was hit by a stray bullet near Madina Road.
Quoting an eyewitness account, he said that the boy suddenly fell on the road and when people approached him he was bleeding profusely.
He was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead. He's dead, Jim! on arrival.
The little boy had suffered a bullet wound in the chest, the officer said.
The victim's father, Mohammad Aslam, refused to lodge an FIR saying he had no enmity and did want any legal formalities, the duty officer added.
Grenade hurls on trader's house
Unknown men hurled a hand grenade at the residence of a local trader in the Defence Housing Authority on Sunday but the device could not explode.
Police said that it did not explode because the pin of the grenade had not been taken off.
They said that the trader, Abdul Qadir Memon, lived in Khayaban-e-Mujahid and had been receiving calls for Rs30 million as protection money. However, facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... he refused to pay the extortion money and had informed the police about the threats.
Quoting the trader, the police said that on Sunday also he received a call and the caller demanded immediate payment of Rs10 million.
The bomb disposal unit reached the scene and removed the grenade.

[An Nahar] Gunmen opened fire on an army camp near Islamabad on Monday, killing seven security personnel and wounding five others, the military said.
The encampment was attacked from a bridge over the river Chenab, close to the industrial city of Wazirabad, less than 150 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of the capital.
Just hours before the attack, the Defence Council of Pakistain coalition of right-wing and Islamist groups crossed the bridge on a "long march" from Lahore to Islamabad to protest against the reopening of NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions... supply routes to Afghanistan.
Pakistain is battling an Islamist insurgency in its lawless northwest tribal region, but attacks in the area of Monday's incident in the prosperous and generally peaceful province of Punjab are unusual.
"At least seven security personnel including a police official embraced shahadat (martyrdom) and five others were maimed due to firing by unknown assailants near Wazirabad," the military said in a statement.
A rescue party had camped by the Chenab to look for the body of a pilot missing in a helicopter crash in May, the statement said, and the camp came under attack from a bridge.
"The exact number of attackers is not known but they came by cycle of violence and sprayed bullets on the troops from the bridge," a security bigshot told Agence La Belle France Presse on condition of anonymity.
"It is highly likely that the attackers belonged to a banned religious outfit, which is a hand in glove with Taliban."
The official added: "Nobody has so far grabbed credit of the attack but if we follow the pattern of the attack, it looks similar to assaults that these outfits have been carrying out in different cities."

[Al Ahram] Syria's army pounded besieged rebel-held areas of Homs on Monday, monitors said, as troops also shocked Qusayr residents with a morning bombardment and 38 people were killed across the country.
The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said those killed were 21 civilians, 13 regime troops and four rebels.
Qusayr in the central province of Homs near the Lebanese border, pounded continuously for three months in a bid by regime forces to wipe out the revolt there, suffered renewed shelling early on Monday.
"When they attack in the morning their objective is to cause as many casualties as possible, because they know that's when people are on the streets," an activist who identified himself as Hussein told AFP, adding that the army's goal was to "terrorise the town."
"The result is that people hate the regime more, because that's when the children are playing on the streets and the elderly are having tea at the doors of their homes," he said.
An AFP correspondent saw several members of one family being treated for wounds, including a 13-year-old boy, after a shell went kaboom! 10 metres (yards) away from them.
The boy's T-shirt was soaked in blood as his head bled from a deep cut.
"We were on our way to my mother-in-law's house when the bombs began to fall. We tried to run but a bomb went kaboom! right in front of us," said the boy's father, who was also maimed.
Elsewhere, regime forces pressed their campaign against the Khaldiyeh, Jurat al-Shiah and the Old City neighbourhoods of the central city of Homs, said the Observatory.
"Most residents have fled the Old City neighbourhood, and we only get a few hours of electricity a day," an activist who identified himself as Abu Rami told AFP via Skype, adding that the district's infrastructure was "destroyed."
Troops clashed with rebels on the edges of besieged areas, including Sultaniyeh which borders the once rebel-held neighbourhood of Baba Amr, where blasts were also heard.
In the northwestern province of Idlib, regime forces pounded Ariha with shells and heavy machinegun fire, killing at least eight people, the Observatory said.
An amateur video shot in Ariha and distributed by the Observatory showed a man lying in a pool of blood, arms outstretched.
