Afghanistan
Foreign tourists attacked in West of Afghanistan, 4 wounded
On a charted "Sh*tholes of the World" tour package
A group of foreign tourists were attacked in the western Herat province of Afghanistan earlier today with preliminary reports suggesting at least four of them were wounded.

There are no reports regarding the identity of the foreigners who were on a tour in Herat province.

An official in the Ministry of Interior (MoI) confirmed that the incident took place Chesht-e-Sharif district of Herat province earlier today.

The official further added that the tourists were on their way to Herat from the central Bamyan province when their vehicle was ambushed by unknown gunmen.

However an official in the 207th Corps of the Afghan National Army said at least six people were wounded in the attack.

No group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The Taliban militants and insurgents belonging to the other militant groups are actively operating in a number of the remote districts of Herat province, including Chesht-e-Sharif district.

Both Bamyan and the western Herat province are hosting scores of foreign tourists as the two provinces are among the historical sites of the country.

The Bamyan province is home to some of the oldest sites including the world’s largest Buddha statue which was destroyed by the Taliban in early 2001 while Herat is home to the oldest structures and monuments of the world.

20 Afghan soldiers surrender to Taliban
In a video released on Thursday by the Taliban, the insurgent group claim that at least 20 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers surrendered to them in the Nad Ali district of the southern province of Helmand.

This comes amid ongoing heavy clashes between security forces and the Taliban in the area.

However, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rejected these claims.

The news of the soldiers surrendering to the Taliban has meanwhile drawn strong reaction from Helmand MPs - with some blasting government for the poor leadership of the war against the militants and its failure to tackle the problem.

In the video one of the soldiers appears to be wouded. He has his head bandaged and is on a drip.

"When you are at war, or you get wounded or killed or taken captive, this is totally different from surrendering, we reject it," MoD spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

This latest development comes at a time that embattled Afghan security forces continue their military campaign against the Taliban on multiple fronts in Helmand, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Nangarhar, Kunar, Ghazni and Zabul provinces.

"Both the US and our own leaders including the Resolute Support mission have failed to deliver on their promises, therefore Afghanistan is at war and the enemy has infiltrated in all regions of the country," said military expert Atiqullah Amarkhail.

The scale of violence and the Taliban insurgency increased dramatically in Afghanistan over the past two years.

"They (soldiers) were not delivered equipment and weapons and reinforcements on time, some of the soldiers were forced to surrender including their weapons," said senator Hashim Akokozai.

"The war has dramatically increased over the past two years since the national unity government was formed, we have contacts in Helmand and soldiers were saying we are fighting, but weapons were not sent to them," said MP Ghulam Hussain Nasiri.

It is said that the Taliban currently control ten districts across the nation with another 116 districts under serious threat - while 91 district are under what is considered medium threat.

Tripoli clashes over black flag: report
[Libya Herald] The appearance of a black Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) flag on a housing block on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
’s Airport Road resulted in shooting this afternoon between supporters of the Benghazi Defence Brigades (BDB/Benghazi Saraya) and forces under the control of Abu Sleem warlord Abdul Ghani Kikli (better known as Ghneiwa), according to security sources in the city.

Some of the unfinished housing blocks along the road near Abu Sleem had been taken over by refugees from Kikla. These were more recently joined by families of fighters belonging to the Benghazi Revolutionary Shoura Council who had fled the city for Tripoli. They now support the BDB. Earlier today, some put up the black flag used by both IS and Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
on one of the buildings. It resulted in Ghneiwa’s fighters then shooting at it. The residents of the building managed to escape and there have been no injuries, the Libya Herald was told.

Formerly a supporter of Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
but now allegedly willing to support anyone who will pay him, Ghneiwa runs the area as a personal fiefdom. He currently is seen as deeply opposed to Misratan forces in the city. Yesterday, his forces joined in festivities at the Waha Bank in Ghut Shaal, an area he is trying to extend his influence over.

Dignity Operation warplanes bomb Derna leaving injuries and destruction
[Libya Observer] Two civilians were maimed and two houses were destroyed due to Arclight airstrikes carried out by the warplanes of Dignity Operation militias led by Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
on the western entrance of Derna.

Sources said a young man and a six-year old were maimed and sent to Al-Harish Hospital due to the bombing in Sayda Khadija neighborhood, where two houses were considerable damaged along with the houses next to them, while other sources said one house was completely destroyed, let alone the damage done to the nearby mosque.

Derna has been suffering from a crippling siege by Haftar’s militias coupled with the undivided bombing since the revolutionaries freed the city from IS Death Eaters, knowing that most of the targets of the Dignity warplanes are usually civilian locations and people.

Sholakia suspect among two killed in ‘gunfight’
[Dhaka Tribune] Two suspected bad boys, including one of the Sholakia attackers, were shot and killed in an alleged shootout on Thursday when other holy warriors reportedly tried to snatch them away from RAB custody in Mymensingh’s Nandail.

One of the holy warriors killed was Shafiul Islam Sohan alias Abu Muktadil, the Sholakia suspect, Nandail Model cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge Ataur Rahman confirmed to our Mymensingh Correspondent Ashrafuddin Seizel.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the OC could not name the other bad boy who was killed.

Three members of Rapid Action Battalion 14 were also shot and maimed during the shootout, said RAB legal and media wing Deputy Director Raisul Azam Moni.

The Nandail OC told the Dhaka Tribune that Shafiul was being transferred from the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital to the custody of Kishoreganj police when other holy warriors suddenly attacked the law enforcers near a place called Dangri.

A shootout ensued, leading to the death of the two bad boys.

From the scene of the shootout, RAB found and seized two cycle of violences, explosives, arms and ammunition. The elite force was carrying out a drive in the nearby areas when the report was filed at midnight.

Shafiul Islam Sohan alias Abu Muktadil was one of the suspects who attacked coppers near the Sholakia Eid congregation last month. He was also an accused in four murders including the killing of two Hindu community members in Gaibandha and Panchagarh.

Europe
Eastern Europe Sells Weapons to 'Syrian Mercenaries', But Says No to Refugees
[Sputnik] Eastern and Central European states have sold weapons worth $1.3 million to the Middle East, with some arms shipments ending in the hands of "Syrian mercenaries," including al-Nusra Front and Daesh, but these countries have refused to welcome refugees fleeing violence that they have helped to fuel, Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (DWN) asserted.
$ 1.3 Million? Amateurs! I've seen higher valued private collections
According to a report unveiled last week, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia and Romania sold weapons primarily to Saudi Arabia, but also to Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey. Some of these armaments were then transferred to armed opposition and Islamist groups fighting in Syria and Yemen, two countries that have been ravaged by foreign-sponsored wars.

The research was conducted by the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Their findings cover shipments made since 2012.

This business is so lucrative that Eastern and Central European states approved arms export licenses "despite ample evidence that weapons are being diverted to Syrian and other armed groups accused of widespread human rights abuses and atrocities," researchers observed. These licenses are supposed to guarantee where weapons end up and do not allow arms re-transfer to third parties. Yet this is exactly what has happened.
Were funding transfers conducted via unmarked aircraft in the middle of the night ?
The arms shipments from Eastern and Central European countries to Syria rebels have only made matters worse in the country plagued by five and a half years of violence. They have "greatly contributed" to hundreds of thousands dying and millions fleeing to neighboring countries and Europe, DWN noted.

#2  No mention by Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten of German firms selling equipment to Iran's government that could be used to refine uranium and make nuclear weapons, oddly enough. But those weren't passed on to terrorist groups, to whom Iran only gives conventional missiles and such.

But anyway, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, and Turkey are considerd legitimate countries, the kind that are entitled to buy weaponry. If the article's targets were selling to international arms dealers or to agents of various terror groups that would be different.

Teenage Munich Killer 'Went On A Weapons Training Holiday To Iran With His Father'
Munich killer Ali David Sonboly went on a weapons training holiday to Iran with his father before embarking on his killing spree, it is claimed today.

A fortnight after the 18-year-old lured young people to a McDonald's restaurant in Munich and killed nine of them before taking his own life it has emerged that the German-Iranian youth travelled with his father Masoud to Iran in December last year.

The news magazine Focus said that he underwent 'weapons training' while there which included firing guns, although it was not specified where.

Sonboly, who was obsessed by violent computer games and mass school shootings in both Germany and America, bought a 9mm Glock handgun from the 'dark web' for £80 to commit the murders.

The Munich prosecutor's office refused to comment on the report saying: 'We cannot make any comment on this aspect of the case due to the ongoing enquiry.'

His father Masoud did not mention the Iranian trip, or gun firing while there, in an interview last weekend with the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Cyprus to deport Austrian with 'terror' links

[Ynet] Cyprus will deport a "radicalised" Austrian man suspected of being a security risk by Interpol, authorities said on Thursday. The 28-year-old man was detained on Wednesday at a checkpoint in the capital Nicosia in an area straddling a ceasefire line dividing the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.

The man, whom police sources said was travelling alone, was crossing from the Turkish to the Greek side when he was stopped by Greek Cypriot police for a routine passport check.

Paris police on alert for refugee who may be planning attack

[Ynet] Security agencies in Paris have circulated a photo of an Afghan asylum seeker on suspicion that he might be plotting an attack on the capital, a police source said on Thursday. Police did not have a name for the Afghan, the source said, and no active manhunt was underway. Metronews reported that the man had been in France for the past two months.

'Terror Threats' against Austrian Police Stations
Jihad on the cheap.
[AnNahar] Austrian authorities said they carried out searches at several police stations and other locations on Thursday after receiving emailed "terror threats" but found nothing. The interior ministry said that the anonymous email, in bad English, was sent to several police stations on Thursday morning and mentioned Islamic extremism. Security measures were increased and searches conducted at the police stations and at Vienna's airport and main train station but "nothing untoward" was found, the ministry said later.

The email came from an encrypted email address that has been used "several times in the past" for previous threats but this time mentioned specific places and times on Thursday morning. Interior Ministry spokesman Karl-Heinz Grundboeck said that the additional security measures were "gradually" being wound down. Investigations into who sent the email were continuing.

The Trinidad and Tobago Guardian said in an article published Wednesday that Attorney General Faris al-Rawi told it that the nine will be under surveillance and could face criminal charges for involvement with a terrorist group.

"At the end of the day, anybody in an alleged circumstance of terrorism has to face the courts. There is due process and it must be done fairly but at the same time you have to take an intelligence-based approach to this," al-Rawi was quoted as telling the newspaper.

National Security Minister Edmund Dillon said the Trinidad government was in touch with Turkey through diplomatic offices in London and Caracas, Venezuela, but had not yet confirmed whether any citizens were tossed into the calaboose or the circumstances.

"As to whether the individuals, if proven to be nationals and are deported back to Trinidad, will face charges on arrival, we shall have to examine all of the circumstances," Dillon told AP.

#2  Skidmark Hendricks affidavit included some curious information.

-Days before an ISIS sympathizer attacked a cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, he received a text from an undercover FBI agent.
“Tear up Texas,” the agent messaged Elton Simpson days before he opened fire at the Draw Muhammad event, according to an affidavit (pdf) filed in federal court Thursday.

“U know what happened in Paris,” Simpson responded. “So that goes without saying… No need to be direct.”

WTF...is the FBI doing? They knew about the Tsarnevs...Mateen...the Youtube video guy (Benghazi)...Simpson... They are as useless as the CIA...just collect actionable info, don't act on it, and then tsk, tsk that they knew it was gonna happen...and in this case actually encourage it with a "tear up Texas" text.

Afghan American police sergeant hailed as ‘Hero’ in New York
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An Afghan American police sergeant has been hailed as a ’Hero’ for his bravery by taking a suspicious device out of a crowded area in the city by putting his life on risk together with another fellow cop.

The incident took place on 20th July when police sergeant Hameed Armani was on duty together with Officer Peter Cybulski.

The suspicious device was tossed into the van by a man in a sport utility vehicle in Times Square.

Recalling the suspicious move by the man, Armani told Voice of America "I looked at Cybulski and at the device. The lights started flashing, and it started to make noise."

"Cybulski goes, ’Boss this is a bomb.’ I looked around. The first thing I saw was two little kids right in front of my van and looked to my left. The area was packed with people."

Armani decided to take the device and go as far as possible from the crowd. He said Cybulski was on board with the decision.

Cybulski held the device as Armani drove to a more deserted location on Sixth Avenue. They put the device on the ground and called the bomb squad.

The experts determined the object was a dud, but the heroism of the police was real.

New York City Police Commissioner at the time Bill Bratton said the two officers were NYPD heroes and the heroes of New York City.

Amani is the second Afghan man hailed for his bravery to save thousands of people from a possible attack.

A young Afghan refugee was also hailed as a ’champion’ following the Munich shooting that left at least 9 people dead, an attack that was carried out by a German-Iranian.

The 20-year-old Amir Najazada was hailed for saving nearly 200 people by shifting them to the underground of a shopping mall last month.

Najafzada was reportedly working as a security guard in the shopping mall and helped to shift around 200 people to the underground of the mall after hearing the gunshots that sparked panic among the people.

"All of a sudden around 150 to 200 people entered the mall as they were frightened," he told an online newspaper in Germany, adding that three kids aged beetween 9 to 12 years of age were also among them.

Najafzada further added "I took the children and all other people into the underground and gave them water."

He came out of the underground of the mall to inform the police regarding the incident and helped two injured people who were lying outside the mall by giving them water.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Raids of Hamas prison cells in Israel fruitful
[Ynet] The Israel Prison Service raided cells of Hamas members on Thursday and found messages related to planned attacks along with other contraband; the raids were precipitated by increased prisoner insubordination.

Israel Prison Service officers raided prison cells holding Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, prisoners Thursday morning, and found messages and orders for Hamas attacks outside of the prison, along with a lot of other intelligence information.

Cell phones and sim cards were also found in the raid.

The Israel Prison Service said that "following intelligence received, and insubordinate behavior by the security prisoner in the Nafha Prison and Eshel Prison, IPS officers raided the cells."

The raids took place in Hamas sections of the prison. In Nafha prison there was an increase in the insubordination of the prisoners including not standing in line, not agreeing to leave the prison yard and return to their cells. Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter wished he had a cup of coffee. Even instant would do...
there was intelligence that the prisoners had forbidden items in their cells.

The IPS therefore decided to carry out raids on the Hamas prisoners' cells. The Hamas prisoners in Eshel Prison were temporarily moved to Ohalei Kider prison, while the IPS officers carried out a thorough inspection of the cells. The officers found orders and plans for Hamas attacks outside of the prison. The Hamas commanders who were sent to be with their subordinates in the wing have since been moved to different areas of the prison.

Meanwhile,

two hunger strikes have been started over the last several days amongst the Paleostinian prisoners in Israel. The first hunger strike was started by only a few dozen prisoners who are expressing solidarity with Bilal Kaid of Nablus who is hunger striking to protest his administrative detention. One of the leaders of the strike is Ahmed Sa'adat, the head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP) terror group. Kaid himself is a member of the PFLP.

The second one was started by Hamas in the Nafha and Eshel prisons to protest their conditions including the fact that they are separated from the rest of the prison population, amongst other reasons. It started as a direct response to several Hamas members being sent to other prisons. There is no connection between the PFLP hunger strike and the Hamas hunger strike.

Jordan sentences gunman to death for lethal attack
AMMAN, Jordan — An assailant who killed five people in a June shooting attack on a branch of Jordan’s intelligence agency was sentenced to death Thursday, a defense lawyer said.

Amman’s state security court “sentenced the criminal Mahmud Masharfeh, 22, to death by hanging for his terrorist act against the intelligence agency,” Jordan’s Petra news agency said.

Masharfeh, a Jordanian national, was arrested hours after the June 6 attack in the Baqaa camp north of the capital.

The attack took place on the first day of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. It targeted a local intelligence agency branch near the Palestinian refugee camp of Baqaa, close to the capital of Amman.

The assailant walked into the building, opened fire and killed five staff members, including guards. He fled, but was arrested several hours later at a mosque in a different town.

No group claimed responsibility for the Baqaa shooting, which authorities said was “an individual and isolated act.”

Charity funds diverted to arm Hamas terrorists
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] One of the world’s largest humanitarian charities has been duped for years into funding the Hamas, , well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror organization, the Shin Bet security agency revealed on Thursday.

The World Vision group, a multi-billion dollar Christian charity with more than 45,000 employees, unknowingly funded the Hamas terror group in Gazoo for roughly a decade after a member of Hamas, Muhammad Halabi, infiltrated World Vision in 2005.

According to the Shin Bet’s report Thursday, Halabi funneled millions of dollars intended for humanitarian use towards the terrorist group.

By 2010, Halabi had reached a senior position within World Vision, leading its Gazoo branch, enabling him to divert more than $7 million annually from civilian needs to Hamas coffers.

In a joint operation of the Shin Bet, the IDF, and Israeli police, Halabi was apprehended for his work with the terror organization.

During interrogation, Halabi admitted he had worked within World Vision on behalf of Hamas’ military wing, and that he channeled funds and other resources towards the terror group.

The Shin Bet reported that the 38-year old civil engineer was captured in June while entering Israel at the Erez crossing along the Gazoo border.

During his tenure as local director, some 60% of the budget given to World Vision’s Gazoo branch was given over to Hamas’ military wing, enabling the group to build a base, expand its terror tunnel network, pay salaries to terrorists, and even purchase weapons.

Eight injured by motorcycle bomb in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] Eight people, including two senior officials, were wounded when a motorcycle bomb went off as their vehicle went passed on a local road in Narathiwat province around noon on Wednesday. The attack occurred on the road where Si Sa Khon district's defense volunteer outpost at Sakor village is located.

The armored pickup truck was carrying the district chief Kotchakorn Raksasorn, his assistant and five defense volunteers to the district office when a bomb, hidden in a motorcycle parked on the side of the road, exploded. The blast damaged the armored vehicle and a passing motorcycle. Mr Kotchakorn and the six others in the vehicle and a local resident were injured.

Officials blamed insurgents for the attack, which they believe was intended to cause disruption ahead of Sunday's referendum on the draft charter.

Hezbollah sez Israeli warplanes struck its arms convoy in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Lebanese media reports 4 trucks hit, no injuries in attack near Maarba north of Damascus; IDF declines to comment

The Shiite terror group Hezbollah said Israeli Air Force warplanes struck a convoy of four trucks carrying weapons near Maarba, north of Damascus, the Lebanese website Mulhak reported Thursday.

No one was killed in the Wednesday night air strike, according to the report.

An IDF spokesperson said Thursday night that the army "will not comment" on the reports of a strike in Syria.

Syrian opposition websites said that the IAF "the Israeli air force carried out a number of strikes against Hezbollah positions close to the Syria-Leb border," Israel National News reported.

"According to reports from the field, the air strike was carried out as a Hezbollah convoy departed from the area, apparently [further] into Leb," INN quoted the opposition as saying.

Since the start of the Syrian civil war five years ago, a number of Arclight airstrikes in Syria or close to the border with Leb have been attributed to Israel.

Syrian rebel forces continue advance
[ARA News] ALEPPO – The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) made more advances against ISIS extremist group in the Syrian border city of Manbij, and now control over 80 per cent of the city.

“The Syrian Democratic Forces made progress in Manbij over the last several days, seeing gains toward the center of the city on the eastern and southern flanks,” spokesman of the US-led coalition Colonel Christopher Garver said. “More than half [of Manbij] has been recovered.”

“We’ve also seen several hundred civilians fleeing Manbij make it safely out of the city,” the spokesman said. “This remains a very tough and deliberate fight, as the SDF clears the city house by house and room by room, while working to avoid civilian casualties.”

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was able to liberate the al-Hal market and the Sinaa district in the city on Thursday, and moved towards the al-Thor school and al-Tal district–which were taken from ISIS after heavy clashes.

The al-Thor school was previously used by the SDF senior commander Faysal Abu Layla who was killed in the beginning of June in the fighting against ISIS. Also, the house of the SDF spokesman Sharvan Darwish in al Tal district in Manbij was recaptured from ISIS militants on Thursday.

Furthermore, the SDF-led Manbij Military Council was able to free nearly 1,500 civilians from ISIS.

“I left Manbij together with my children, my father and my brothers and headed to Kobane three years ago, escaping oppression of terrorism,” said Sharvan Darwish. “Ethnic cleansing and forced displacement was imposed on us.”

“The memories of my neighborhood and house, where I spent my life, resisting tyranny and terrorism, have never left me,” he said. “But we did not lose our spirit to return victorious over evil,” he said. Abu Layla Faysal, who was killed in June, told Darwish that one day they would return to Manbij with their children. “Building a nation ensuring our children’s safety and peace was our biggest dream, and finally we were able to see my house and neighbourhood again.”

In the meanwhile, heavy fighting is continuing inside the city of Manbij.

“Daesh has mounted several localized counter attacks both in the city fighting outward, and outside the [SDF] forces isolating Manbij fighting inward,” Garver said, using another acronym for ISIS.

“Those attacks have been repeatedly blunted by the SDF forces. We also continue to see Daesh’s tactics of snipers in the Minarets of mosques, machine guns and IEDs used as counter-mobility mines,” the US spokesman said.

The US-led coalition has carried out a total of 602 airstrikes in support of the Manbij operation. “We will continue to do what we can to maintain that momentum,” Garver said.

US says German rapper who joined IS not killed after all

[IsraelTimes] A German rapper who became an Islamic State jihadist apparently survived an October airstrike in Syria that the US military previously claimed had killed him, the Pentagon acknowledges. Denis Cuspert, also known by his artist name Deso Dogg, used to rap in Berlin and became one of the most famous Western fighters for the IS extremist group. He appeared in numerous IS propaganda videos, including one that US officials said pictured him showing a man’s severed head.

The Pentagon last year declared Cuspert dead following an October 16 strike near the jihadists’ stronghold of Raqa.

“At the time, our assessment was the strike was successful. It now appears that assessment was incorrect and Denis Cuspert survived the airstrike,” Pentagon spokesman Major Adrian Rankine-Galloway says in a statement sent to AFP on Thursday.

SDF control majority of Manbij and much of route across N.Syria
[RUDAW.NET] Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have made significant advances as Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
defences in Manbij "degrade" in the face of the Kurdish-led SDF’s steady progress.

On Wednesday, Brett McGurk tweeted, "Significant #SDF advances towards city center in #Manbij today as #ISIS defenses degrade in what had been a citadel for foreign terrorists."

Islamic State gunnies have been pushed and split into three areas in the city centre and the SDF are in control of a major road through the city.

After seizing the road through Manbij, the SDF now control about 350 kilometres of a main route stretching across northern Syria, from the Syria-Iraq border in the al-Hasakah countryside to al-Arima village, 18 kilometres west of Manbij, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

In an emotional victory, SDF forces retook the Manbij home of their official spokesperson Shervan Derwish.

In a rare personal post on his Facebook page, Derwish shared his thoughts on the war and the liberation of his home, which he and his family fled three years ago.

"I will never forget what my hometown and my home were like before the terrorists," he said. "So I will always fight terrorists."

"I cannot talk about my childhood dreams, but I pledge to build a country where children can live in peace and reach their dreams," he continued.

"But I want to say that I am a fighter. I am not looking for any position. All I want to be is a fighter and fight oppression."

The SDF have had the city encircled for months after beginning their offensive against ISIS gunnies in that region in late May. Seizing Manbij from ISIS will further isolate the group’s main stronghold in Syria, the city of Raqqa.

Assad forces bomb six Aleppo hospitals
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Syrian government forces launched air strikes against six hospitals in the Aleppo area within a week in attacks that amounted to war crimes, a US-based rights group said on Wednesday.

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) said it was the worst week for attacks on medical facilities in the Aleppo region since the beginning of Syria's five-year conflict, which has killed more than 250,000 people.

The medical facilities were hit between July 23 and 31, the New York-based group said.

The city and province of Aleppo have been among the areas hardest hit by intensifying violence as peace efforts earlier this year failed and a fragile ceasefire crumbled.

Head of Isis in Egypt killed by security forces
[Guardian] An Egyptian airstrike has killed the head of the Islamic State affiliate behind scores of deadly attacks on security forces and the suspected of downing a Russian airliner, the army has said.

A posting on the Facebook page of the Egyptian military's chief spokesman, Brigadier General Mohammed Samir, said Abu Duaa al-Ansari was killed in an operation south of the Egyptian coastal city of el-Arish.

Several senior aides and at least 45 other militants were killed in an operation carried out jointly by the air force and the anti-terrorism squad, according to Samir’s statement.

Since Egypt’s military overthrew the country’s Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi, in 2013, jihadis have led an insurgency against the army and police involving daily attacks in north Sinai.

Most of the attacks, which have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers, have been claimed by "Sinai Province", the Egyptian branch of Isis. A military source said that Ansari was the group’s "number one" leader.

The name of Abu Duaa al-Ansari is not widely known and had not been previously mentioned as that of the leader of the Sunni militant group, which was known as Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, or Soldiers of Jerusalem, before it swore allegiance to the Isis group fighting in Syria and Iraq.
