four men convicted of planning to join the ranks of jihadists fighting to topple the Syrian regime, the official MAP news agency said Thursday.

The defendants received jail sentences of between three and five years, according to the report.

Morocco has frequently reported the arrest of jihadists and expressed deep concern about the number of its citizens fighting in Syria and Iraq and about those who have returned to prepare attacks.

Last week seven Moroccans, detained for recruiting jihadist fighters, were sentenced to between one and four years in prison.

The Al Massae newspaper reported Thursday that security measures had been reinforced at the airport in Casablanca because authorities believed that 45 IS fighters were planning to enter the country.

According to the government, more than 200 Moroccans who joined the Islamic State

Zintan and Warshefana forces take up positions at Azziziya
[Libya Herald] Zintan and Warshefana forces have taken up positions in Azziziya to the west of Tripoli

as armed festivities continue on the outskirts of the capital.

Wahrshefana military sources told the Libya Herald that the forces from the west of the country were acting on the instructions of the General Chief of Staff Colonel Abdul Razzaq Nazhuri and had retaken Azziziya after regrouping in Ras Al-Fai.

The two local militias are now apparently fortifying their positions in anticipation of an attack by the Misratan-led Libya Dawn

forces.

The road from the west to the capital has remains closed with reports of sporadic fighting all the way to Tunisia. In Janzur, just outside Tripoli, local residents have started cleaning debris from the road, the result of months of festivities.

Warshefana's retaking of Azziziya follows days of fighting in the immediate area which caused dozens of casualties. It has put a huge strain on the local population producing food and medical supply shortages. On top of this the nearby Zahra hospital and other clinics were shelled and struggled to cope with influx of patients.

Azziziya civil society organizations condemned the festivities as "gross violations of human rights

," and listed kidnappings, murder and torture as well as destruction of private property as some of the crimes perpetrated by gangs.

Fighting briefly flares up again in Obari
[Libya Herald] A Tuareg man is reported to have been killed in the southwestern oasis town of Obari late this afternoon in a brief upsurge of fighting between Tebus and the Tuareg group said to be from outside the area. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...

Fighting between the two groups broke out just over a week ago when the Tuareg group, said to be supporters of Libya Dawn

holy warriors in the African country's northeast.

The army said on Wednesday that 135 holy warriors surrendered with their weapons in Borno State on Tuesday, while 133 others surrendered elsewhere in the northeastern part of the country. They are reportedly being interrogated.

The development comes as the Nigerian military has increased its operations against the Takfiri holy warriors in the northeast since they captured several small towns there.

Defense front man Major-General Chris Olukolade, meanwhile, told news hounds in Abuja that the army has killed a man posing as the group's leader in many videos during festivities in the town of Konduga.

The man, identified as Mohammed Bashir, "had been acting or posing in videos as the dear departed Abubakar Shekau, the eccentric character known as leader of the group," he said.

It is the first time the Nigerian military has announced publicly that Shekau is dead. Security sources had previously claimed that he had died in July 2009 festivities. Another allegation about his death was made in late June 2013.

Marilyn Ogar, the spokeswoman for the country's secret police, had noted earlier this year that "the original Shekau is dead" and the person seen in numerous videos is an imposter.

Olukolade further said that that Bashir had several identities, namely "Bashir Mohammed, alias Abubakar Shekau, alias Abacha Abdullahi Geidam, alias Damasak, etc."

Boko Haram has grabbed credit for many deadly shooting attacks and kabooms in various parts of Nigeria since the beginning of its operations in 2009. More than 10,000 people have so far been killed in the attacks.

The group, whose name means "Western education is forbidden," says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.

Drone Strike Kills 4 'Qaida' in Yemen
[AnNahar] A drone strike on a vehicle in southern Yemen Thursday killed four suspected members of Al-Qaeda, a security official said.

The drone struck near Nissab, west of the Shabwa picturesque provincial capital of Ataq, the official said, with a tribal source adding that the charred bodies of four men were seen inside the vehicle.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has been linked to a number of failed terror plots against the United States. Washington operates drones over Yemen, but U.S. officials rarely acknowledge the covert program.

Rights groups have criticized the drone program in Yemen and other countries, repeatedly urging the United States to investigate strikes in which civilians have been killed.

President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi and the U.S. government have defended the use of drones, saying they enable the targeting of jihadists without sending soldiers into lawless areas where the authorities have little or no control.

AQAP, considered by Washington as Al-Qaeda's most dangerous affiliate, is active across several parts of Yemen, taking advantage of a collapse of central authority during a 2011 uprising that ousted veteran president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh

Australian Terror Suspect May Have Planned To Behead Police
[IsraelTimes] There is evidence to indicate that a "known terror suspect" rubbed out by Australian police Tuesday night may have been planning to behead the two officers he stabbed outside a cop shoppe and drape an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. flag over their bodies, according to a report in the Australian media.

In addition to the knife he used to stab the officers, police also found a second larger knife on the suspect as well as an Islamic State flag, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
That certainly is suggestive of bad faith...
Police have yet to officially release the information.

Officials said the suspect was being investigated after allegedly unfurling an Islamic State flag in a local shopping center recently and posting inflammatory remarks on social media.

The 18-year-old, whose passport was canceled a week ago on security grounds,
In retrospect, a good call...
was killed on Tuesday evening, having arrived at a cop shoppe on the outskirts of Melbourne to attend a "routine" interview.

Named by media as Abdul Numan Haider, he was met by two members of the Joint Counter Terrorism Team and greeted them with a handshake before pulling out a knife and attacking both men, with one stabbed in the head, neck and stomach.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said Haider's family was from Afghanistan and he had links with Islamic group Al-Furqan in southeast Melbourne, which was targeted in terrorism raids by police in 2012.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation said Haider's family was from Afghanistan and he had links with Islamic group Al-Furqan in southeast Melbourne, which was targeted in terrorism raids by police in 2012.

The attack came after Islamic State Death Eaters released a statement Monday urging the indiscriminate killing of citizens of countries taking part in the US-led coalition against the group, which has seized swaths of Iraq and Syria and declared an Islamic "caliphate."

Australia was singled out, along with the United States, Canada and La Belle France.

"Obviously, this indicates that there are people in our community who are capable of very extreme acts," Prime Minister Tony Abbott said in a statement.

"It also indicates that the police will be constantly vigilant to protect us against people who would do us harm."

Canberra this month raised its terror threat level and last week carried out large-scale raids in Sydney and Brisbane to disrupt an alleged plot by Islamic State supporters to abduct and behead a member of the public.

The government believes up to 60 Australians are fighting alongside Islamic State jihadists, while 20 have returned home and at least another 100 are actively working to support the movement at home.

The rise of IS and moves by Australia to tighten counter-terrorism laws have raised tensions in the Moslem community, with leaders on Wednesday detailing a backlash, including several mosques being threatened or pelted with eggs.

In one incident a pig's head impaled on a cross was left outside a mosque, while threatening messages had been spray-painted on cars, they said.

Australia has deployed 600 troops to the United Arab Emirates to join the international coalition gearing up for a campaign to eradicate the jihadists. It has also sent eight RAAF F/A18 combat aircraft.

So far Australia has only been involved in dropping humanitarian and military aid to Iraqis under siege and has repeatedly ruled out intervention on the ground.

group, Swiss media reported Wednesday.

The daily newspaper Tages Anzeiger reported that Switzerland's Federal Intelligence Service had been tipped off by a western counterpart which intercepted the men's phone calls.

Switzerland's national prosecutor's office has confirmed the arrest but declined to give further details.

The newspaper said that the Swiss were informed that the three men were believed to have formed a pro-IS cell.

"There were indications that the trio planned an attack in their adopted country," Tages-Anzeiger said, without elaborating.

The men's arrests were revealed Sunday by the weekly newspaper NZZ am Sonntag, which reported that they were suspected of providing IS with logistical and financial support.

They allegedly helped around 40 Swiss or Swiss-resident jihadists travel to the Middle East to join IS.

According to the Tages-Anzeiger, known for its contacts within Swiss officialdom, the three Iraqis aimed to procure explosives and toxic gas for an attack.

It was not clear how far their alleged plans had advanced, the newspaper added.

It said that the men were aged between 28 and 33, and that at least one was an asylum seeker.

Two had lived in the northern Swiss regions of Aargau and Schaffhausen, which border Germany, while the listed address of the third man was in the Syrian capital Damascus, the newspaper said.

Oklahoma Muslim Convert Goes 'Postal', Beheads Woman
FBI officials are reportedly investigating a beheading at an Oklahoma food distribution center after co-workers said the suspect tried to convert them to Islam after his recent conversion.
Beheading...Islam - yes, worth investigating a connection.
The alleged suspect, Alton Nolen, 30, was recently fired from Vaughn Foods in Moore prior to Thursday’s attack. Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told KFOR that Nolen drove to the front of the business and struck a vehicle before walking inside. He then attacked Colleen Hufford, 54, stabbing her several times before severing her head. He also stabbed another woman at the plant, 43-year-old Traci Johnson.

Lewis said Mark Vaughn, the company’s chief operating officer and a reserve county deputy, shot Nolen as he was stabbing Johnson, who remains hospitalized in stable condition Friday.
Fortunately this was not one of those 'no guns allowed' workplaces.

Maybe, but not the most recent stint. According to a USA Today story, the Oklahoma department of corrections says: "Nolen had the words "as-salaamu alaikum," Arabic for "peace be with you," tattooed on his abdomen according to Corrections Department records". That was in 2010.

Now, did the DoC record a tattoo he got while in prison, or did he have it before going in?

In any case, he's not a "recent convert" as some stories are saying.

Bomb attack on police officer kills two, injures six in Karachi
[DAWN] KARACHI: Unknown assailants carried out a kaboom on a police brass hat in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhood on Thursday night, killing two people and injuring at least seven others, DawnNews reported.

The attack targeted a convoy of SSP South Farooq Awan in DHA Phase 4. The blast was heard far and wide and a large plume of smoke was visible as well.

The blast caused a suspension of electricity supply in the vicinity. The vehicle of the senior police officer was completely destroyed in the attack, whereas another police mobile van escorting him was also badly damaged.

"Police has cordoned off the area and is collecting evidence from the blast site," said IG Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali. He said that the attack, in which two people were killed and six others injured, did not appear to have been carried out by a jacket wallah.

The IG added that the bomb appeared to have been planted in a Suzuki pickup van which was remotely detonated.

Seemi Jamali, the spokesperson at Karachi's Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre, confirmed to AFP that two people died in the attack. She added two women were among the injured.

Speaking to the media, Additional IG Sindh Ghulam Qadir Thebo said that the attacker was apparently either riding a cycle of violence or on foot. SSP Farooq Awan also suffered minor wounds in the attack and was shifted to a private hospital.

Blasphemy case: Scot shot in Pakistan jail
[BBC] A 70-year-old Scot sentenced to death in Pakistain over blasphemy charges is in hospital after being shot by a prison guard in jail.
Hoot mon!"
Muhammad "Jock" Asghar, who is from Edinburgh, was tossed in the calaboose
You have the right to remain silent...
in 2010 after writing letters to a number of people claiming to be a prophet.
"Aye, laddie! Many's the time he told me this would happen! 'Tis nae surprise!"
A court in Rawalpindi convicted him of blasphemy earlier this year.

The attack took place at 08:30 local time inside the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, where he was being held.

A Rawalpindi police official told BBC Urdu's Shahzad Malik the gunman who shot the Scot is Mohammad Yousuf, a member of the Elite Force of police commandos.

He said Mr Yousuf walked into Mr Asghar's cell before shooting him.

Prison security, who ran to the scene when they heard the gunshots, were said to have overpowered and disarmed Mr Yousuf.

Mental illness
The extent of Mr Asghar's injuries remain unclear but officials and doctors say he is in a stable condition.

A doctor at the hospital where Mr Asghar was taken told AFP news agency he had "been shot from the back and the bullet has crossed his body affecting his ribs and lungs".

"He is out of danger now," he added.

Another report said at least one bullet had hit Mr Asghar in the arm.

His family and lawyers have said he has a history of mental illness and was sectioned under the mental health act in Edinburgh shortly before travelling to Pakistain.

British politicians and activists have been campaigning for his release, urging the Pak government to intervene in his case so he can be treated.

Solicitor Aamer Anwar called on UK Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...

, for Mr Asghar's release.

Mr Anwar, who is acting on behalf of Mr Asghar's family, said: "It is unacceptable that this poor, old, seriously ill man is sat in a prison - presently in a hospital - and is facing death.

"He needs to come home to his family."

Adiala Jail is notorious for being overcrowded with poor conditions.

It is where Mumtaz Qadri, the "celebrated" police guard who killed Punjab Governor Salman Taseer in 2011 is also in jug. Qadri was sentenced to death after confessing to murdering Mr Taseer because he objected to his calls to amend a controversial blasphemy law.

Iraq
Places of worship blown up in Iraq
[ARABNEWS] The murderous Moslems controlling the Iraqi city of Tikrit have blown up a Moslem shrine and rigged one of the region's oldest churches with explosives, security sources said Thursday.

group (IS), said Al-Arbain mosque was dynamited on Wednesday. The shrine is the reputed burial site of 40 early Moslem figures, including companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

IS advocates a return to the origins of Islam but also considers worshipping at graves to be tantamount to idolatry.

Witnesses told AFP that IS gunnies set up the explosives inside the shrine on Tuesday and detonated them the next day. "Yes, they have blow up this holy site," said Yahya Al-Attawi, the imam of the main mosque in Tikrit, speaking from outside the city.

Elsewhere in the hometown of executed former president Saddam Hussein, IS also rigged the Green Church, a striking structure carved into the rock and first built in the seventh century.

Residents said many streets, homes and public buildings had been booby-trapped by the murderous Moslems who have held the city for more than three months and fought off attempts by government forces to take it back.

Samira Salih Al-Nuaimi was seized from her home on Sept. 17 after allegedly posting messages on Facebook that were critical of the Lion of Islams' destruction of religious sites in Mosul.

According to the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq, Al-Nuaimi was tried in a so-called "Shariah court" for apostasy, after which she was tortured for five days before the murderous Moslems sentenced her to "public execution."

She was killed on Monday. Her Facebook page appears to have been removed since her death.

Female human rights activist killed by ISIS
BAGHDAD – Militants with the Islamic State group tortured and then publicly killed a human rights lawyer in the Iraqi city of Mosul after their self-proclaimed religious court ruled that she had abandoned Islam, the U.N. mission in Iraq said Thursday.
Perhaps Human Rights Watch noticed, perhaps they didn't...
Gunmen with the group's newly declared police force seized Samira Salih al-Nuaimi last week in a northeastern district of the Mosul while she was home with her husband and three children, two people with direct knowledge of the incident told The Associated Press on Thursday. Al-Nuaimi was taken to a secret location. After about five days, the family was called by the morgue to retrieve her corpse, which bore signs of torture, the two people said.

According to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq, her arrest was allegedly connected to Facebook messages she posted that were critical of the militants' destruction of religious sites in Mosul. A statement by the U.N. on Thursday added that al-Nuaimi was tried in a so-called "Sharia court" for apostasy, after which she was tortured for five days before the militants sentenced her to "public execution." Her Facebook page appears to have been removed since her death.

"By torturing and executing a female human rights' lawyer and activist, defending in particular the civil and human rights of her fellow citizens in Mosul, ISIL continues to attest to its infamous nature, combining hatred, nihilism and savagery, as well as its total disregard of human decency," Nickolay Mladenov, the U.N. envoy to Iraq, said in a statement, referring to the group by an acronym. The statement did not say how she was killed.

Al-Nuaimi's death is the latest in a string of attacks by the militant group to silence female activists and politicians. In July in the nearby town of Sderat, militants broke into the house of a female candidate in the last provincial council elections, killed her and abducted her husband, the U.N. said. On the same day, another female politician was abducted from her home in eastern Mosul; she remains missing.

Hanaa Edwer, a prominent Iraqi human rights activist, said at least five female political activists have been killed in recent weeks by the Islamic State group in Mosul, including al-Nuaimi, who Edwer said was also running for a seat on the provincial council.

"But it is not just women being targeted," Edwer said. "They will kill anyone with a voice. It is terrifying."

France launches fresh Iraq strikes as country mourns hostage
France carried out a fresh round of air strikes in Iraq Thursday as it renewed its determination to fight ISIS militants after the beheading of hostage Herve Gourdel.

President Francois Hollande pledged “determination, composure and vigilance” in the face of threats at a cabinet meeting and announced that flags nationwide would be flown at half-mast for three days from Friday to mourn the loss of the 55-year-old mountaineer.

“Faced with this threat, we need national unity,” he told the meeting, according to government spokesman Stephane Le Foll, who also announced France had carried out air strikes in restive Iraq on Thursday morning — the second in the space of a week.

Paris has six Rafale fighter jets and just under 1,000 soldiers and on Friday carried out its first air strike on ISIS targets in Iraq, destroying a logistics depot.

As the cabinet meeting ended, Hollande went straight into crisis defence talks during which, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has said, “everything would be looked at again,” including “what we want to do in Iraq and what will happen in Syria.”

France has vowed to conduct aerial operations against Iraq in support of local forces fighting IS but has stressed it will not deploy ground troops, nor will it expand operations to Syria, as the United States has done.

However, Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian seemed to open the door to possible action in neighbouring Syria, telling French radio on Thursday it was “a question that had to be asked.”

Nevertheless, the minister stressed it was “an opportunity that is not on the table today. We have an important task to carry out in Iraq.”
With six jets, perhaps you could concentrate on one mission at a time...

U.S.-led Raids on Syria Killed 14 Jihadists, 5 Civilians
[AnNahar] A series of strikes in Syria overnight by a U.S.-led coalition killed 14 jihadists from the Islamic State

group and five civilians, a monitoring group said on Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the forces of Evil were killed in strikes in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, and the civilians died in raids in northeastern Hasakeh.

The strikes largely targeted oil facilities captured by the Islamic State group (IS), though Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said at least one IS checkpoint was among the targets hit during the night.

Among the civilians killed in Hasakeh was a child, he added.

On Wednesday, Pentagon officials announced that the U.S. and Arab allies had resumed bombing raids that began a day earlier, hitting oil facilities held by IS.

Pentagon front man Rear Admiral John Kirby told CNN that the raids focused on 12 targets he described as "modular oil refineries".

IS forces of Evil have seized a series of oil facilities and fields and are believed to sell oil on the black market to bring in revenue.

The overnight strikes involved aircraft from Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates, members of the U.S.-led coalition, Pentagon officials said.

#1  Killed 14 Jihadists, 5 Civilians

I've never been to the Middle East, so I am a bit mystified as to how exactly you tell a dead jihadi from a dead civilian. Unlike soldiers, they all seem to wear civilian clothes. Are the inhabitants of the ME bar-coded or tattooed in some way as to identify which category they belong to? Is civilian/jihadi determined by the mean distance from the corpse to the nearest weapon? Or is it just the day's mood at whatever Human Rights org is doing the tabulating?

Jihadist Says Foley, Cantlie Converted to Islam in Captivity
[AnNahar] Western journalists James Foley and John Cantlie converted to Islam while being held hostage in Syria, a Belgian newspaper quoted a jihadist suspect as saying Wednesday, adding that the pair may have been forced to do so.

Foley, an American, was beheaded by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) group last month, while Cantlie, a Briton, is believed to be still in captivity.

IS has been accused of forcing Christians and other minorities to convert to Islam during their sweep across parts of Iraq.

The Phlegmish-language newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws cited testimony from Jejoen Bontinck, a 19-year-old Belgian Islamist convert who was detained in October 2013 upon his return from an eight-month visit to Syria and charged with belonging to a terrorist group.

Bontinck told Belgian interrogators that in August 2013 IS suspected him of spying and put him in a prison in the region of Aleppo where the two Western journalists were being held, according to the newspaper.

"Foley and Cantlie were kidnapped by the Nusra Front," the branch of Al-Qaeda in the country, "outside an Internet cafe," the Belgian former fighter said.

He said the two journalists were moved about on several occasions and "tortured" while "barely getting enough to eat" before they were handed over to IS.

It was around two weeks into their captivity by IS that they told the young Belgian that they had converted to Islam, Bontinck was quoted as saying.

"They told me that they had not always led an exemplary life, that for example they had not shown enough respect for their mothers and that they understood it thanks to their conversion," Bontinck said.

He said nonetheless that his jailers encouraged him to convince his two cellmates to convert to Islam, suggesting that the hostage takers had not taken seriously the two men's prior conversion to Islam, the newspaper said.

The Islamic State broadcast a video of Foley's murder on August 19. Another U.S. journalist, Steven Sotloff, was beheaded two weeks later.

On September 18, the group broadcast a video of Cantlie, who said he had been kidnapped following his arrival in Syria in November 2012.

Kurdish forces push back ISIS in northern Syria
Kurdish forces in northern Syria pushed back an advance by ISIS fighters towards a strategic town on the Turkish border on Thursday and appealed for US-led air strikes to target the insurgents’ tanks and heavy armaments.

ISIS launched a new offensive to try to capture the border town of Kobani more than a week ago, besieging it from three sides. At least 140,000 Kurds have fled the town and surrounding villages since Friday, crossing into Turkey. The UN refugee agency said the first of eight planned aid flights landed in the southern Turkish city of Adana, carrying pre-fabricated warehouses, sleeping mats, plastic sheeting and cooking utensils to help Turkey cope with the influx.

Kurdish and ISIS fighters exchanged artillery and machinegun fire in a cluster of villages about 15 km (9 miles) west of Kobani, where the frontline appeared not to have moved significantly for several days, a Reuters witness said.

Kurdish officials meanwhile said ISIS had concentrated their fighters south of the town late on Wednesday and had pushed towards it, but that the main Kurdish armed group in northern Syria, the YPG, had repelled them overnight.

“The YPG responded and pushed them back to about 10-15 km (6-9 miles) away,” Idris Nassan, deputy minister for foreign affairs in the Kobani canton, told Reuters by telephone.

Syrian Kurdish refugees watching the fighting from a hill on the Turkish side of the border said the ISIS insurgents had not been able to advance from positions they had taken up in olive groves west of Kobani.

Turkish military vehicles patrolled their side of the border, with soldiers occasionally moving people away from the hill overlooking the fighting. Heavy weapons fire could also be heard further away from the border inside Syrian territory.

The town’s location has been blocking the insurgents from consolidating their gains in northern Syria. The group tried to take the town in July but was repulsed by local forces backed by Kurdish fighters from Turkey.

The YPG on Thursday renewed calls for US-led air strikes to hit ISIS positions around Kobani.

“Although all ISIS positions and their heavy armaments, including tanks and armoured vehicles around Kobani, are clear and within view for everyone on the front line, it is worth noting that these targets have not been bombed yet,” YPG spokesman Redur Xelil said.

“We are of the utmost readiness to cooperate with the international coalition forces against terrorism and give it detailed information about the main targets,” he said.

Lebanon Arrests 450 Suspected Militants In Syria Border Crackdown
[Ynet] Leb's army has detained about 450 suspected Islamist holy warriors near its border with Syria, Lebanese security sources said on Thursday, as it steps up efforts to prevent them from using the frontier town of Arsal as a base.

Arsal was the scene of last month of the deadliest spillover of fighting in the three-year civil war in Syria.

During those festivities that killed dozens, holy warriors captured a group of Lebanese soldiers and have since killed at least three of them. They are believed to be holding more than a dozen others.
