[Tolo News] The Afghan security troops have placed in long-term storage 10 snuffies and thwarted a terrorist attack on parliament, front man of National Directorate of Security (NDS) said on Monday.
"The NDS has placed in long-term storage a 10-member terrorist group and thus foiled the network's conspiracy to target the parliament," NDS Spokesman, Lotfullah Mashal, told news hounds.
Some ammunition including boom jackets have also been recovered from the possession of the placed in long-term storage men, he said.
"Four of the members of the network are Pak nationals and have been placed in long-term storage in Kabul," Mashal added.
The NDS said that the placed in long-term storage men have admitted to their involvement in terrorist activities, having links with the Taliban and receiving training in Pakistain.

[Dawn] A suspected jacket wallah was rubbed out Monday near the site of Afghanistan's loya jirga or traditional meeting which will take place this week, officials said.
"No one was killed but the bomber," said interior ministry front man Sediq Sediqqi.
He added that the man had been carrying explosives in a bag.
Lutfullah Mashal, front man for Afghanistan's intelligence service the National Directorate of Security, said the man's bag blew up as he was shot.
"A suicide bomber who wanted to enter the polytechnic university (where the loya jirga will take place) was identified and rubbed out by security forces," Mashal said.
"He was carrying the explosives in a laptop-type bag. It went kaboom! as he was shot. He's dead and no one else is hurt."
The Taliban claim to have got hold of top secret security plans for the loya jirga, which starts Wednesday and will discuss Afghanistan's long-term relations with the US and peace strategy.
But Afghan and Western officials have dismissed the claims as propaganda.

[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Al-Shabaab strongholds around Mogadishu have been bombed in a surprise missile attack.
At least three huge kabooms rocked regions held by the krazed killer groups on Sunday, witnesses said on Monday.
But it was unclear who had launched the missiles.
It could have been a work accident...Call Mutual of Gaza to investigate -- they know what to look for.
The attacks were reported in Afgoye region, some 30km south of Mogadishu. The area is under the control of the Islamic gunnies who are fighting the Somali Transitional Federal Government.
Two other kabooms were reported on Sunday night in the K50 area, some 50km from Mogadishu, also held by the Al-Qaeda-linked cut-thoats.
"We saw a huge light and a heavy kaboom followed, like a missile striking, but we don't know if there are casualties," said Mr Abdikarin Isa, a resident of Afgoye, a sprawling encampment of displaced people.
Mr Abdullahi Jumale, another witness, said what he believed to be a missile hit near an orphanage.
"I was having dinner when I saw huge light coming from the western side of the town and there was heavy kaboom, it hit near Tadamun orphanage," he said.
Witnesses also said other kabooms were heard near military camps of Al-Shabaab.
"We heard heavy kabooms, something like a missiles, striking several areas in the region including Ambareso and K50 area," said Mr Idiris Moalim, a local elder.
"Some of these kabooms happened at Al-Shabaab military camps and checkpoints but nothing is quite clear so far," he added.
"There was another heavy kaboom near Lantaburo, there was fire and smoke but I cannot say what exactly happened," Mr Mohamed Ali, another witness in K50, told the Nation on telephone.
None of the witnesses reported any aircraft flying overhead, leading to speculation that the missiles were fired from ships in the Indian Ocean.
The attacks came as Kenya secured growing international support for the military operation in Somalia against Al-Shabaab.
On Monday, member states of Indian Ocean Rim that include Australia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, the UAE, and Yemen announced plans for a joint strategy to fight piracy and Al-Shabaab.

November 13, 2011: A large explosion in the town of Afgoye (40 kilometers northwest of Mogadishu) was believed to have been caused by UAVs firing missiles at an al Shabaab base there. There were secondary explosions from what was apparently an ammunition storage site. The town is currently a major al Shabaab base, and locals believed that al Shabaab leaders were holding a meeting when the attack took place. In the aftermath of all the explosions, hundreds of civilians fled the town, fearing more violence.

[An Nahar] Hizbullah on Monday denied as "totally baseless" allegations by Bahraini MPs linking the party to a suspected "terrorist" cell recently busted in Bahrain.
"No one knows if the individuals jugged by the Bahraini authorities were members of a military cell or if the cell had military objectives as claimed, and the whole thing could might be one of the fabrications of the authoritarian al-Khalifa regime," Hizbullah said in a statement.
"It is a failed attempt Curses! Foiled again! by the al-Khalifa regime to divert attention from the civil and peaceful popular revolution of the steadfast and aggrieved Bahraini people, amid the international community's silence and the Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... 's suspicious apathy," the party charged.

Amir Abdolahian, a deputy foreign minister in charge of Arab and African affairs, was quoted as saying that the "baseless allegation is repeating a ridiculous scenario fabricated by the United States."
"Intensifying the security atmosphere in Bahrain and pursuing the ineffective policy of Iranophobia will not lead to solving the problem," the website quoted him as saying.
"It is necessary for the Bahraini officials, instead of deflecting (their problems) and making these baseless allegations, to work on trust-building to solve the chasm created between the regime and the people," Abdolahian added.
In response, Bahrain's foreign ministry said Monday it was "surprised" by the comments that "contradict the principles of diplomacy, good neighborhood, and rules of international conduct," the Bahraini news agency BNA reported.
The foreign ministry said Abdolahian's comments amounted to "blatant interference" in the kingdom's internal affairs.
It said "terrorist organizations linked to Iran are without the least doubt involved in spreading terrorism and undermining security and stability in the region, which threatens world peace and security."
Bahrain's judiciary on Sunday linked the cell to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, a day after announcing the arrest of five Bahrainis planning attacks in the Arab kingdom.
The five men are accused of belonging to a "terrorist group" with ties to the intelligence services of a foreign state, a judiciary front man said, quoted by BNA.
The front man said the five were to be "sent to Iran to receive military training," notably with the elite Revolutionary Guards.
On Saturday, Bahrain's interior ministry said a cell had been broken up that was planning to attack the ministry, the Saudi embassy in Manama and the causeway which links the archipelago state to Soddy Arabia.
Citing alleged confessions from the suspects, the judiciary front man said the cell had been set up by two men living abroad.
"They coordinated with military structures abroad, including the Revolutionary Guards and the Basij (militia) in Iran to train the recruits of the group in handling arms and explosives," he said.
The Sunni-ruled Arab monarchies of the Gulf have repeatedly accused mainly Shiite Iran of meddling and of inciting the Shiite-led protests which rocked Bahrain for a month from mid-February.
The Bahraini government crushed the pro-democracy protest with the help of Gulf Cooperation Council troops, drawing condemnation from Tehran.
Relations between Iran and its Arab neighbors in the Gulf have deteriorated in the past year amid accusations that Tehran is fomenting unrest, engaging in espionage or planning attacks.
The accusations have been vehemently denied by Tehran, which says its neighbors have become Iranophobic.
Soddy Arabia accused Iran in October of being behind the unrest in its northeastern region of the kingdom which has a Shiite population.
It has also said it is "holding Tehran accountable," after the United States said it had uncovered "plot" to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
In July, Bahrain sentenced three people to 10 years in prison after finding them guilty of charges of spying for the Revolutionary Guards.
Iran, meanwhile, on Sunday announced the arrest in the southern city of Abadan of two Kuwaitis it said were spies.
Kuwait denied those jugged are spies, saying they are journalists working for a television channel who had entered Iran on valid visas.

In Sana'a, the capital, tens of thousands of protesters manifested their anger, condemning the ongoing crackdown on the southern city of Taiz, demanding that the president be transferred to the ICC for his crimes.
Across the nation, solidarity marches were staged, as Yemeni decided to stand against tyranny as one, united in their grief and anger.

Sana'a: A female led march began in Sana'a in late afternoon condemning Saleh's crimes in Taiz and demanding the freezing of his assets both inside Yemen and abroad.
Anger is running high since all hope of a political resolution seemed to have gone up in flames with Saleh's latest refusal. So far all is peaceful. Protesters are saying that Saleh is allowing them to demonstrate peacefully because of UN envoy being still in Sana'a.
Taiz: Many protesters have complained over the past few days of a certain political radicalization saying that political elements were trying to gain momentum by using the revolution and people's anger towards the regime to push forward their own agenda. Islamists have been working at appearing to be the better option.
Ibb: Protesters have said they would not allow the government to ferry weapons through the area to hit Taiz. The tribes have actually warn Saleh that severe repercussions would ensue if he did not stop massacring its people.

[Tripoli Post] Al-Qaeda snuffies have freed three French aid workers who were kidnapped in Yemen almost six months ago. The two men and one women worked for the French charity Triangle Génération Humanitaire.
The three workers, who had been seized by suspected al-Qaeda snuffies in the Hadramawt town of Seyun, 600km east of the capital, Sanaa in May are reported to be in good health.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy ...23rd and current President of the French Republic and ex officio Co-Prince of Andorra. Sarkozy is married to singer-songwriter Carla Bruni, who has a really nice birthday suit... confirmed their release last night and thanked the Sultan of Oman for his help in securing their release.
In a statement, Mr Sarkozy's office said: "The President warmly thanks the Sultan of Oman and the Omanese authorities for their crucial help, as well as all those who contributed to this happy resolution."
No details have been released about the circumstances of the release, but the tribal official who led the mediation said Monday a ransom was paid to secure the hostage's release. He did not specify how much was paid, or who made the payment.Earlier reports said the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of $12 million.
The three, among more than 200 foreigners kidnapped over the past 15 years; had appeared in an online video in September, saying the demands of their abductors had not been met. Almost all those released have been unharmed.

An imam's assistant at a local mosque has been gunned down in western Dagestan near the border with Chechnya.
Akhmed Osmanov was said to be an advocate of dialogue with Muslim radicals. He was returning home from the mosque in the village of Matsal-Aul late on November 12 when he was killed.
Osmanov was the seventh member of the Muslim clergy to be gunned down in the Caucasus this year.
Some clergymen have suggested that they be given weapons to protect themselves, but the chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Dagestan, Abdulla-hadji Magomedov, says doing so would only worsen tensions.
A Texas man who had been in contact with Yemeni-based cleric Anwar al-Awlaki about jihad was convicted Monday on terror charges. Barry Walter Bujol Jr. was found guilty of attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and of aggravated identity theft.
Bujol was arrested in May of 2010, after he used a fraudulent identity card to get into the port of Houston to board and stow away on a ship he thought was bound for Algeria. Prosecutors said Bujol intended to travel from there to Yemen to join AQAP.
Bujol had been coordinating his plans with a man he thought was a recruiter for AQAP but who was actually a confidential source for law enforcement.
According to the prosecution, Bujol had been in e-mail communication with al-Awlaki and had asked his advice on how to raise funds for the "mujahideen" without attracting the attention of police, and also asked about his duty as a Muslim to wage "violent jihad." The government said al-Awlaki sent Bujol a document called "42 Ways of Supporting Jihad," which advises firearms training, physical fitness and "violent jihad."
The U.S. attorney's office in the Southern District of Texas says Bujol performed a number of training exercises to prove his value to his AQAP "recruiter," such as surveillance. Bujol also sent the "recruiter" military manuals and articles about unmanned aerial vehicles that he had found online and said would be useful to the them.
Bujol repeatedly told his contact, "AQAP should attack the human beings essential to operate the UAV's instead of attacking the UAV's themselves" and suggested targets including one in Texas.
On the same day Bujol was nabbed, law enforcement agents searched his apartment and found a home-made video on his laptop computer that included images of Bin Laden. In the video, Bujol's voice is heard telling his wife that he had left to pursue jihad and probably would not see her again until the afterlife.
"Be sure to stop by and see the virgins and me, once you get to paradise, dear."
Bujol asked for a bench trial in which the judge would render a decision rather than a jury. He acted as his own attorney but presented neither witnesses nor testimony on his own behalf. Bujol faces a maximum of 20 years in prison when he is sentenced.

A suspected U.S. drone fired missiles at a house in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border early Tuesday morning, killing seven alleged militants, Pakistani intelligence officials said.
The strike occurred in Miran Shah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal area, a key hub for Taliban and al-Qaida militants, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
Elsewhere in the northwest, Pakistani forces pounded militant hideouts, killing 16 suspected insurgents, said government officials.
[Dawn] Four Pak paramilitary soldiers were killed on Monday when Death Eaters attacked their convoy in the northwestern tribal district of Khyber , officials said.
The attackers opened fire on the paramilitary convoy in the Nala area, five kilometres (three miles) west of Bara, the district headquarters of Khyber.
"The Death Eaters shot up the convoy when it passed from the area and killed four security persons," Rehan Gul Khattak, a local administration official told AFP.
"The security forces fired back but the Death Eaters managed to escape," he said.
Some 18,000 people decamped their homes in Khyber last month amid fears of a fresh onslaught of fighting between the army and Islamist Death Eaters tied to the Pak Taliban.

Pakistain's seven tribal districts near the Afghan border are rife with homegrown cut-throats and are strongholds of Taliban and al Qaeda operatives.
"Those who have been placed in durance vilewere maimed during the exchange of fire as the Death Eaters attacked Pakistain forces and they retaliated," said Maqsood Hassan, a local administration official.

[Dawn] The law enforcement agencies locked away eight alleged forces of Evil during a raid at Shindhand camp of Afghan refugees in Kohat district near the tribal area on Sunday.
Police said that they received information that a group of gun-hung tough guys was intimidating tribal families, who were fleeing their homes owing to attacks on their vehicles on Shindhad Road.
The Bilitang police accompanied by commandoes raided the refugees camp in Shindhand. The law enforcers asked eight gunnies, present there, to surrender but they started running and threatened to open firing on the coppers.
After a chase the eight men handed themselves over to police. Police seized six Kalashnikovs and two light machine guns from their possession.
The security forces also came to help police and launched a search operation in the area. The operation was in progress till filing of this report.
In Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central, security forces locked away five suspects and defused two landmines during a search operation in Mamond tehsil on Sunday.
In Kurram Agency ...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora... , bomb disposal squad defused a time bomb planted under a bridge on Sunday and launched a search operation in the area.
Sources said that security forces locked away two suspects with the help of sniffer dogs during the search operation in Mero Kass area after recovery of the bomb.

[Dawn] Unidentified saboteurs blew up three government-run schools in different districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central... by planting bombs at their buildings, officials said.
They said that a primary school for girls was blown up in Razaar tehsil of Swabi district on the night between Saturday and Sunday. Five out of the seven rooms of the primary school for girls No.3 in Shewa were destroyed when two bombs planted in its veranda went off at night. The kabooms were heard in far off villages.
The Kalu Khan cop shoppe officials rushed to the area after the incident and collected evidence. "The building can no longer be used and 226 students of the school will be shifted to nearby education institutions," said an official.
The incident occurred a week after the killing of Awami National Party leader Hanif Gul Jadoon in a suicide kaboom in the district. Three days ago, a CD shop was also blown up in Yar Hussain area of Swabi.
In Nowshera district, a primary school was blown up by unidentified beturbanned goons in Taru Jabba area of Pabbi on Sunday morning.
Police said that the building of government primary school No.1 Taru Jabba was badly damaged when explosives planted there went off at around 5:30 am in the morning. They said that eight kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.
Police said that two classrooms, veranda and boundary wall of the school were completely destroyed in the incident.
The residents of the area said that the blast also caused minor damage to the houses, situated near the school. The Pabbi cop shoppestarted the paperwork but haven't done much else and started investigation.In Bannu district, a government higher secondary school for girls in Ghalla Mandi area of the city was partially damaged when a locally made bomb, planted at the boundary wall of its building, went off at night.
According to the bomb disposal squad, at least eight to 10 kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. The officials said that it was a remote controlled bomb.
The blast was so powerful that it smashed the windowpanes of the nearby buildings, said residents of the area.

[Dawn] LAHORE: The police jugged over 150 people in an extensive search operation in Thokar Niaz Baig, Raiwind and Chuhng areas early on Sunday.
The operation was launched against terror suspects ahead of Muharram and annual congregation of Tableeghi Jamaat in Raiwind.
Sadar Division Operations SP Shoaib Khurram told Dawn that they took 150 people into custody for not having identity documents and obtained surety bonds from 450 others during the operation. He said the sureties had also been taken from owners of hotels, guest houses, inns, seminaries and residential places where terror suspects could stay. The SP said the operation would continue for two more days as a precautionary measure.
The SP said those who had been jugged would be released only after producing guarantors.

France's consul to the Gaza Strip, his wife and 13-year-old daughter were injured during an Israeli air strike on Sunday night, French foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said.
Valero told reporters the three were hit by shrapnel at their residence in Gaza, which is located 200 meters from the site of an Israeli missile attack, he added.
"France condemns the consequences of the raid," he said. "While we are all for Israeli security, France recalls the utmost necessity to avoid civilian harm," Valero said, without specifying the nature of their injuries.

[An Nahar] Jassem Merhi al-Jassem, one of four brothers kidnapped in Leb a few months ago, has been killed in Syrian captivity, reported the daily An Nahar on Monday.
Nabil Halabi, head of the Lebanese Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, revealed that Jassem was kidnapped in Beirut and transported with his three brothers to Syria through a vehicle from the Syrian Embassy.
He stated that he was killed under torture in Syrian jail, adding that the issue is being studied to make a case out of it in order to indict all who kidnapped him before international courts.
"We will not remain silent over his death," he stressed.
Jassem al-Jassem was kidnapped in Beirut in February after being accused of distributing flyers encouraging anti-regime protests in Syria.
He is the most active among his brothers in speaking out against the Syrian regime, said the daily.
The four of them were kidnapped shortly after being released from the Justice Palace in Baabda, it added..
Investigations by Leb's Internal Security Forces revealed that vehicles from the Syrian Embassy in Beirut had been employed in their kidnapping.

[An Nahar] Syrian security forces on Monday rubbed out 33 people, among them 17 in Daraa, the southern cradle of the revolt, and 10 in the flashpoint central city of Homs, the Local Coordination Committees announced, while 19 regime forces were killed in festivities with suspected army deserters, a rights group said.
Five other non-combatants were killed in the northwestern Idlib province and another in the central province of Hama, the LCC, an activist network spurring protests on the ground, added.
For its part the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said security forces rubbed out 16 people in Daraa and that at least 19 soldiers and members of the security forces were killed in festivities with suspected army defectors.
In a statement received by Agence La Belle France Presse, the Observatory said the non-combatants were killed by gunfire from checkpoints across Daraa manned by the security forces.
The Britannia-based group also said the bodies of five soldiers, including a general, were also found in the northwestern Idlib province bordering Turkey.
Almost daily pro-democracy rallies in Syria have been met with violent repression, at a cost of 3,500 lives, mostly civilians, according to the United Nations ...an international organization whose stated aims of facilitating interational security involves making sure that nobody with live ammo is offended unless it's a civilized country... Latest report is 34 regime soldiers dead yesterday.
That number has been moving up for weeks and indicates large numbers of desertions.
One aspect of Syria is how geographically dispersed population centres are. There will be a lot of men and machines moving between the north and south trying to contain flashpoints.
[An Nahar] A heated debate between Baath Party leader Fayez Shukur and Mustaqbal ... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri... Movement official ex-MP Mustafa Alloush erupted into a verbal clash and a fistfight during a live talk show on MTV on Monday. The amusing vid's at the link, but it won't embed for some reason...
As the two were arguing over the Syrian crisis, Shukur repeatedly asked Alloush to refrain from describing Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Lord of the Baath... as a "tyrant", "criminal" and "liar".
Alloush, however, insisted that he had the right to speak his mind.
"You are a liar and your master is a liar," Shukur shouted at the rival Mustaqbal official at that point, which prompted Alloush to hit back with "shut your mouth!" and "eat s***."
An infuriated Shukur retaliated with a tirade of obscenities and cursed Alloush's mother.
He then hit Alloush with a pen and a cup of water and carried a chair to assault the rival politician. The show's host, a shocked Walid Abboud, physically intervened at that point and prevented Shukur from reaching Alloush.
The program then went off air before resuming around 10 minutes later, with the two foes returning to their seats and the episode witnessing no further incidents.

The protest gathering on Monday came shortly after the Jordanian king called on Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Sonny, disguised as Fredo, trying to be Mike... to step down. King Abdullah II is the first Arab leader to call for Assad's resignation.
"I believe, if I were in his shoes, I would step down. I would step down and make sure whoever comes behind me has the ability to change the status quo that we're seeing," King Abdullah told the state-funded BBC on Monday becoming the first Arab leader calling for Assad's resignation.
The gathering was also a response to Jordan's vote for the suspension of Syria from the Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... earlier this week.
Jordan was among the 18 countries in the 22-member AL that voted to suspend Syria on Saturday during an emergency session in Cairo. The League suspended Syria's membership over what it described as the failure of Damascus to implement a peace plan proposed by the AL to end months of unrest in the country.
Shortly after the announcement, thousands of Syrians erupted into the streets of Damascus and staged protest rallies in front of the Qatari, Saudi, Turkish and US Embassies.
Some protesters broke into the Saudi Embassy while some accessed the rooftop of the Qatari Embassy and raised the Syrian national flag.
Syrians have accused the Arab bloc of acting out a plot they say has been hatched by the United States.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem has condemned the AL move as an ''illegitimate and dangerous step''.
Meanwhile, ...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising... hundreds of Paleostinian refugees have held a rally in support of Assad in a refugee camp near Damascus on Monday.

[BBC] Jordan's king has become the first Arab leader to openly say Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad The Scourge of Hama... should stand down.
King Abdullah told the BBC that if he were in Mr Assad's position, he would make sure "whoever comes behind me has the ability to change the status quo".
He urged President Assad to launch dialogue with the opposition to effect an orderly transition.
Arab leaders have increasingly criticised the crackdown in Syria after months of violence.

"If Bashar has the interest of his country, he would step down, but he would also create an ability to reach out and start a new phase of Syrian political life," he said.
"That's the only way I would see it work and I don't think people are asking that question," he added.
King Abdullah warned there would be "more of the same" if whoever replaced President Assad did not change the status quo.
Defiance
Jordan, which borders Syria, has been increasingly critical of the crackdown on anti-government protesters.
Many Western powers have urged President Assad to stand down. Both the EU and the US have said he has lost legitimacy but have ruled out military intervention.
The European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... on Monday tightened sanctions on Syria. EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels added 18 Syrian officials to a list of people affected by a travel ban and asset freeze.
The ministers also approved moves to prevent Syria getting funds from the European Investment Bank.
