Afghanistan
6 Nato Troops Gunned Down In Afghanistan Were Americans
An Afghan border police officer opened fire on NATO troops during a training mission in the east of the country Monday, killing six NATO service members before he was shot dead, NATO and Afghan officials said.

A U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity told AFP that the victims were Americans. The official did not provide additional details.

The shooting -- the highest toll for NATO forces since nine Americans died in a Sept. 21 helicopter crash -- was the latest in a series of shootouts in which Afghan security forces have turned on their NATO partners.

The attack also highlights the potential hazards of a push to speedily expand Afghanistan's army and police forces in the next few years. The goal is to turn over the responsibility for nationwide security to Afghan forces by 2014 so that NATO troops can go home.

The shooter was wearing an Afghan border police uniform, NATO said, but did not provide additional details on how the shooting happened or his identity. A spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, Zemeri Bashary, confirmed that the gunman was a border police officer, rather than an insurgent who had donned the uniform to infiltrate government forces.

Suicide bomber Killed in Western Afghanistan
[Tolo News] A jacket wallah attempting to target security forces in western Ghor province was killed on Sunday, provincial officials said

The incident happened in Cheghcheran city of Ghor province in the morning while a man who had tied explosives on him attempted to target Afghan forces, but after being surrounded by Afghan forces, he blew himself up, Mohammad Iqbal Munib, the provincial governor told TOLOnews news hound.

The official said, the bomber was killed in the kaboom and there is no civilian or military casualties.

Talibs have intensified their activities recently.

On Saturday two jacket wallahs blew themselves up at an Afghan police headquarters, killing 12 officers and wounding 11 others in Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province.

Afghan official assassinated
[Iran Press TV] A senior member of a provincial council has been killed in an attack by gunnies in eastern Afghanistan amid the worsening security situation in the war-ravaged country.

The ambush targeted Abdullah Ahmadzai while he was traveling in a car in Pashtun-infested Logar Province on Sunday.

Ahmadzai's brother and cousin were also killed and a bodyguard was injured in the fatal attack.

Police have blamed Talibs for the attack.

This comes one day after an attack on a police headquarters in eastern Afghanistan left 15 officers dead in Sharan, the capital of Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
Province. At least 12 others were maimed in the attack, including the provincial police chief.

The developments come as a leading international think tank says NATO's strategy to break the Taliban in Afghanistan is failing.

The International Crisis Group (ICG)
a certified Left fascist group
says there is little evidence that US-led operations have disrupted the Taliban's momentum. ICG says beturbanned goons are more active than ever.

As Western and Afghan public opinion is growing increasingly weary of the prolonged war and mounting casualties, bigwigs in Washington confirmed that American troops would remain in Afghanistan for at least four more years.

Sudan Pulls Out of Africa-EU Summit in Row over Bashir
[An Nahar] Sudanese President Omar Bashir, wanted by an international court for suspected war crimes in Darfur, will not attend an Africa-EU summit in Libya which Sudan will boycott, his foreign minister said on Sunday.

"Mr Bashir will not attend" the two-day summit that starts on Monday, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Ahmad Karti said in the Libyan capital.

"We are therefore pulling out and will not be represented at any level," he added after a meeting of African foreign ministers ahead of the summit.

Karti, who walked out of the closed-door meeting after announcing Khartoum's decision, added that Bashir's no-show "is to avoid embarrassment to Libya," which is hosting the November 29-30 summit gathering of 80 nations.

The minister said the decision was taken "under pressure from Europe."

EU diplomats told AFP in the weeks running up to the summit that they had asked for assurances that Bashir would not attend. But reports on Saturday that he was flying to Tripoli caused a diplomatic flurry on both continents.

In Khartoum, South Africa's former president Thabo Mbeki had said Bashir "has to go there for that summit which will be followed immediately by the summit meeting of the peace and security council of the African Union."

Mbeki spoke after talks with Bashir.

Bashir was indicted in March 2009 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity, and in July 2010 on charges of genocide, relating to alleged atrocities committed by Khartoum's forces in Darfur.

Nigeria charges arms traffickers
[Al Jazeera] A member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and three Nigerians have been charged in court for illegal arms trafficking.

The Nigerian court charged the four men on Thursday over a shipment of mortars and rockets seized in the port of Lagos in October.

Nigeria reported the seizure of the arms shipment, which had been hidden in containers of building materials, to the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society Security Council this month for an apparent breach of UN sanctions on Iran.

Azim Adhajani, identified in court documents as a Tehran-based businessman and member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, was charged with the importation of prohibited firearms, as was an alleged Nigerian accomplice.

The two men and two more Nigerian suspects were also charged with conspiring to re-export the illegal shipment to Banjul, Gambia. The three Nigerians, Ali Usman Abbas Jega, Ali Oroji Wamako and Mohammed Tukur, pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
but only one was represented in court.

"This is a matter of great national importance, and if I may add, it has international implications," Matthew Idakwo, the prosecutor, said. "These arms were imported from Iran to our country. It is of great interest to the world. In fact, the United Nations has interest in this matter."

Hafsat Soso, the judge, said the four men would remain in the custody of Nigeria's state security service as investigations continued.

Second shipment intercepted

Another illegal arms shipment was intercepted this week whilst transiting at the Lagos port, a spokesperson of the Nigerian navy said on Thursday.

"I can confirm to you that the origin of the impounded consignment of arms, military equipment and vehicles is Belgium," Captain Kabir Aliyu told the AFP press agency.

The latest shipment - including pistols, ammunition, bulletproof jackets and other items banned in Nigeria - came from Belgium via Germany.

The spokesperson said those jugged over the illegal shipment were Nigerians, but refused to give details because of an investigation.

"They are eight heavy duty trucks painted in [military] camouflage with [the] UK flag on them," Aliyu said. "Some of them [trucks] are suspected to be carrying communication gadgets. They were alleged to be purchased from Belgium and shipped from Antwerp ... to Nigeria."

He did not give details on the identity of the ship involved or its owner.

Officials at the Belgian embassy in Nigeria were not immediately available for comments on the shipment.

Qaida Claims Deadly Attack on Shiites in Yemen
[An Nahar] Al-Qaeda has said it carried out a suicide kaboom which killed 23 people at a procession of supporters of Iranian catspaws in north Yemen last week, the SITE Internet monitoring service reported on Sunday.

It was the first time Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which is virulently anti-Shiite, has claimed an attack against Zaidis, also known as Huthis, who are engaged in an on-off rebellion against the Sanaa regime.
In a statement dated November 25 and posted online on Sunday on jihadist websites, AQAP called the Houthis "legitimate targets," and said "new attacks are being prepared" against them, SITE reported.

A suicide car boomer targeted Wednesday's religious procession in a deadly attack which a tribal chief charged was an attempt bid by Al-Qaeda to fan sectarian tensions in the already restive country.

Tribal leaders said the dead were all supporters or fighters of the Zaidi Iranian catspaws who have been observing an uneasy truce with the government since February.

Bangladesh
6 Jammat leaders make bail
[Bangla Daily Star] The High Court (HC) yesterday granted ad interim bail to six top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders including its chief and secretary general in four separate cases.

But the Jamaat leaders would not get released from jail following the HC orders, as they are accused in other cases.

The six leaders are Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid, Nayeb-e-Ameer Delawar Hossain Sayedee, Senior Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, leader Abdul Kader Molla and its Dhaka city unit chief Rafiqul Islam Khan.

The bench came up with the orders and rules following separate bail petitions filed by the six Jamaat leaders, who were nabbed in June and July this year in connection with cases filed on charge of hurting religious sentiment of Mohammedan.

Nizami, Mujahid and Sayedee got bail in the cases filed on June 20 with Paltan cop shoppe.

Kamaruzzaman and Qader Molla got bail in the case filed on February 12 with Paltan cop shoppe and Rafiqul Islam Khan got bail in two cases filed on June 26 and 27 with New Market and Ramna cop shoppes. The case filed with Ramna cop shoppe against Rafiqul was on charge of vandalising cars.

'Shootout' kills 1
[Bangla Daily Star] An alleged criminal was killed in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the capital's Gulshan area early yesterday.
I think the capital of Bangladesh can be found on the regular map, not Old Patriot's favourite 1:15 version that covers four football fields and can only be unfolded when the weather is clear and windless.
Rab men recovered one pistol, three bullets and two mobile sets from the spot.

The identity of the dead, aged about 30, could not be known immediately.
He'd left his wallet in his other pants.
Captain SM Shafiqur Rahman said a patrol team of Rab signalled two youths on a cycle of violence to halt at a check post near Gulshan Shooting Club around 1:20am yesterday.
An Rab checkpoint in the middle of the night? Isn't that a bit unusual?
Defying the signal,
Officer in uniform advances to the middle of the road. Standing with feet shoulder width apart, raise white-gloved left hand straight forward to shoulder height, hand at right angle to forearm. Right hand should be prepared to draw weapon if necessary. Shout "Halt!" loudly and clearly.
the youths opened fire on the Rab men, compelling them (Rab) to retaliate with bullets that left the co-rider bullet injured, he said.
How fortunate that the signalling officer had his right hand free to draw his weapon.
The other youth, however, decamped the scene on his cycle of violence, he added.

The injured youth was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead around 2:30pm, said the captain.
Bled out, did he?
His body was later shifted to DMCH morgue for his appointment with Doctor Quincy. Morgue sources said the body bore two bullet injuries at its head.

China-Japan-Koreas
China calls for talks with N Korea
[Al Jazeera] China has called emergency talks with North Korea, in a bid to diffuse tensions as United States and South Korea begin joint military exercises in waters west of the Korean Peninsula.

China suggested talks between the six governments involved in stalled negotiations aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear programme.

South Korea responded that it will consider the resumption of international talks "very carefully".

The military exercises, which began on Sunday, came less than a week after North Korean shells rained down on the tiny island near the disputed maritime boundary and killed four people.

An official from US forces-Korea said that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington had joined the four-day exercises.

North Korea responded by placing surface-to-surface missiles on launch pads in the Yellow Sea, the Yonhap news agency reported. It said the state had moved surface-to-air missiles near frontline areas.

North Korea has promised a "merciless military counterattack" against any intrusion into its territorial waters, the country's official news agency reported.

Leonid Petrov, a lecturer in Korean Studies at the University of Sydney, told Al Jazeera that the military drill was "a rather risky undertaking," given the unresolved dispute over the waters. Politicians should be placing more emphasis on dialogue to cool the tensions, he argued.

"Of course rather than talking, negotiating, giving diplomats an opportunity to discuss the future development of co-operation and exchange, we see that the military is given the full reign in sorting out the issue," Petrov said.

Artillery fire?
South Korea's military later said that explosions - possibly the sound of artillery fire - were heard on Yeonpyeong Island on Sunday.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that what is believed to have been a round of artillery was heard on Sunday from a North Korean military base north of the sea border dividing the two Koreas. It was not immediately clear where the alleged round landed.

Residents of the island were ordered to take shelter in underground bunkers, but that order was later withdrawn, according to Yonhap, a South Korean news agency.

Dozens of reporters, along with soldiers and police and a few residents, headed for the bunkers, where they remained for 40 minutes.

"The order was lifted when no more sounds were heard," a spokesperson for the South Korean defence ministry said.

Al Jazeera's Marga Ortigas, reporting from the South Korean capital, Seoul, said that military leaders had said that the military exercises were taking place "nowhere near the contested area" between North and South Korea in the Yellow Sea.

Games go south
Officials say the drill is now being held 120km south of the contested border. There is no explanation about the change in location.

"We don't know if this was some intentional change of location in some way to try to not send out signals of provocation to North Korea or if indeed they might say it was exactly where it was meant to be in the first place," she said.

Lee Myung-bak, the South Korean president, warned ministers and aides to be ready for further "provocation" by North Korea during the drill.

"There is the possibility that North Korea may do some unexpected action, so please perfectly prepare against it through cooperation with the Korea-US joint force," Lee was quoted by a spokesman as saying.

Nerves are also high on the South Korean mainland, where the population is being advised to seek shelter in the subway in the event of open conflict.

"The population of South Korea understands that things are getting tense," Petrov said.

'Ensuing consequences'
China has warned South Korea and the US that it "could not be responsible for what North Korea might do" if they went ahead with the military exercise, according to Al Jazeera's correspondent.

"The Chinese have made it very very clear that they didn't want these drills to occur at all," Ortigas said.

China sent senior officials including Dai Bingguo, the state councillor, to a meeting in Seoul on Sunday.

South Korea's Lee told the visiting officials that China must take a "more fair position" on the Korean Peninsula.

The Chinese delegation agreed with South Korea that the situation was "worrisome" and that it would try to stop it deteriorating, according to Chinese media.

The US military said the exercises, planned long before Tuesday's attack, were designed to deter North Korea and were not aimed at China.

"We've routinely operated in waters off the Korean peninsula for years," Darryn James, a Pentagon spokesman, said.

"These latest provocations have been by the North and they need to take ownership of those, not us."

But Petrov told Al Jazeera that attempting influence China to change its stance on its ally is a dangerous game to play.

"It is pointless to pressure China to put more pressure on North Korea," Petrov said.

"The decision of the United States to send the [USS] George Washington nuclear carrier might really thwart the opportunity for President Hu Jintao to visit Washington in January and that would be a really bad development."

He said that Washington and Beijing were in a position to find a solution to the issue, if a more co-operative and less interventionist approach was taken.

"Wouldn't it be better to give the opportunity to the Korean Peninsula to stay nonaligned, independent, nuclear free?" he asked.

A top North Korean official is scheduled to visit China on Tuesday, the Xinhua news agency reported.

Choe Thae-Bok, the chairman of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly and a close confidant of Kim Jong-il, the country's leader, was invited by Wu Bangguo, China's second most powerful official, the report said.

#2  China needs to militarily enter Nork, secure its nukes, hang its leaders, then set up a puppet government. At that point, there can be lots of talk, smiles all around, and a huge amount of foreign aid flooding into Nork while they restructure their economy along the Chinese model.

And, once those ogres have been deposed, the Chinese will be glad to see a flood of Koreans leaving China and going home.

#4  China doesn't "NEED" to do jack shit,

There is that. Given that China intends to replace the U.S. as hegemon, anything that causes the U.S. to lose face and perceived power is desirable. Since just about everything North Korea does provides another opportunity for the U.S. to demonstrate that it won't actually do anything, why would China step in? This is not a situation they wish solved.

The North Koreans in China are mostly female, as far as I can gather, providing useful services of one sort or another to China's excess of young men. And the rest are providing just about slave labour, which situation historically has pleased everyone except the slaves and a few idealists; the unskilled labourers replaced by slaves have never been listened to anyway. I see no reason why China should want them to go home.

2 Arrested – SUV Searched For Explosives Near Hawaii Military Housing
Honolulu police have shut down the Ala Kapuna off-ramp along Moanalua Freeway Honolulu-bound for about two hours while investigating a suspicious vehicle that may possibly contain explosives.

An Army spokesman states that two men had been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the article, Col. Mike Donnelly, chief of public affairs for U.S. Army Pacific, would not elaborate, but said the men had apparently tried to get into the Aliamanu Military Reservation housing area. They earlier tried to get onto other military installations on Oahu, he said.

Targets survive US missile in N Waziristan
[Pak Daily Times] The targets of a suspected US missile strike in Pakistain's northwestern terrorist strongholds appeared to have survived on Sunday by quickly abandoning their vehicle after an unmanned aircraft missed its first shot, local officials said.

It was one of the few reports of anyone surviving one of the escalating barrages of missiles fired by remotely piloted aircrafts, which have become a key weapon in the wider US-led war against bully boyz in Afghanistan.

A local news channel initially reported four people killed in the latest US attack in North Wazoo, where the Taliban and al Qaeda-allied fighters control safe havens outside the central government's control.

However,
The infamous However...
two Pak intelligence officials who were investigating the incident told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that no bodies were found and all their sources indicated the occupants of the car survived the attack near Hassan Khel village.

They said a US drone fired one of its missiles, but missed the speeding vehicle, and its occupants quickly bailed out before the second missile hit and destroyed it. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on record.

Sunday's missile strike was the 13th this month. The US has sharply ramped up its unacknowledged search-and-destroy programme this year, launching more than 110 this year in hopes of killing terrorists' leaders who run terrorist training camps and plot attacks on US and NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan.

US drone attack kills four militants in Pakistan: officials
[Dawn] A US dronezap targeting a vehicle travelling in Pakistain's lawless northwestern tribal belt near the Afghan border killed four gunnies on Sunday, local security officials said.

The unmanned aircraft targeted the vehicle in Hasan Khel village, around 30 kilometres east of Miranshah, the main town in North Wazoo tribal district, and a known hub of Islamic beturbanned goons.

"US drone fired two missiles, the vehicle is still on fire, we have reports that three gunnies were killed in this attack," a local security official in Miranshah told AFP.

A security official in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar also confirmed the incident and the toll.

Another security official in Miranshah said that identities of those killed in the strike were not immediately known.

A covert US drone campaign in Pakistain has been stepped up over the last few months with strikes in the tribal belt, which Washington considers as the most dangerous place on earth, taking place with increasing frequency.

More than 250 people have been killed in 47 strikes since September 3, heightening tensions with Islamabad over reported US criticism of Pakistain's failure so far to launch a ground offensive in North Wazoo.

The United States does not as a rule confirm dronezaps, but its military and the Central Intelligence Agency operating in Afghanistan are the only forces that deploy the aircraft in the region.

Officials in Washington say drone strikes are highly effective in the war against Al-Qaeda and its allies, killing a number of high-value targets, including the Pak Taliban's founding father Baitullah Mehsud.

The leadership of the Haqqani network, which is linked to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, is also based in North Wazoo.

It has been accused of plotting some of the deadliest attacks on US troops in Afghanistan, including a suicide kaboom that killed seven CIA operatives at a US base in Khost last December.

Pakistain's foreign ministry said recently it would reject any overtures seeking to allow the drone campaign to be expanded outside the tribal areas, amid US press reports that Washington was seeking to expand the areas inside Pakistain where the pilot less aircraft could operate.

The Pak Taliban have grabbed credit for a number of arson and gun attacks on Nato supply convoys destined for Afghanistan, saying they are in Dire Revenge™ for the drone war.

Washington has attempted to soothe anti-Americanism that is rife throughout Pakistain with increased civilian aid to help the country overcome devastating summer floods, balancing that with its huge military donations.

2 militants killed in Pakistan clashes
[Iran Press TV] At least two Orcs and similar vermin have been killed in festivities with Pak security forces in the Swat Valley region northwest of the country.

Officials told Press TV that some of the nabbed Orcs and similar vermin tried to snatch arms from security forces, but the officers opened fire and killed two Orcs and similar vermin in Sher Plum Camp in Matta Sunday morning.

In another development, police jugged a top Taliban capo, identified as Sher Ali, during a search operation in Matta area on Saturday.

The Taliban capo was providing arms and weapons to the bad turbans.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
at least three coppers were maimed in a kaboom in the outskirts of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar city in northwest Pakistain.

Police officials told Press TV that a police van was on a routine patrol when it was struck by a bomb planted under a bridge in Baghnawan area near Armoor on Sunday morning, injuring three coppers.

Security forces cordoned off the area and transferred the injured officers to a hospital.

The Mighty Pak Army has launched several operations in the restive northwest in order to flush the Orcs and similar vermin out of its tribal areas.

Over the past three years, nearly 4,000 people have been killed in attacks and bombings across the country.

Iraq
12 caught over Baghdad church siege
[Iran Press TV] Twelve suspected snuffies have been jugged in connection with a deadly attack on a Christian cathedral in Storied Baghdad last month, Iraq's interior minister says.

Among those nabbed are Huthaifa al-Batawi, the Storied Baghdad chief of the Islamic State of Iraq and the movement's leader Ammar al-Najadi
Jawad Bolani told al-Iraqiya state television on Saturday that the arrests were made in raids over recent days and described them as a blow to al-Qaeda.

The October 31 attack on the Sayidat al-Nejat Cathedral, or Our Lady of Salvation Church, left 52 people dead and 60 others maimed.

The gunnies seized the church during Sunday mass, demanding the release of al-Qaeda prisoners. The incident lasted nearly four hours until the police intervened.

The Islamic State of Iraq, a Sunni bully boy umbrella group with ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq, grabbed credit for the Storied Baghdad church siege.

Iraqi security forces made the 12 arrests in raids in the capital's western and eastern suburbs.

Among those nabbed are Huthaifa al-Batawi, the Storied Baghdad chief of the Islamic State of Iraq and the movement's leader Ammar al-Najadi, AFP said.

According to Iraq's Interior Ministry, al-Batawi has confessed to his role in the church siege.

It is also believed that members of the bully boy group had entered the heart of the Iraqi capital from Soddy Arabia.

Although Iraqi churches have faced a number of attacks in recent years, the incident was the first that involved a prolonged hostage situation.

Persian nuclear scientsts targets of car kabooms
Two separate kabooms killed a nuclear alchemist and injured another in the Iranian capital Monday morning, official news outlets reported.

Their bescarfed female spouses and a driver were also injured in the attacks, according to the news agencies. The slain scientist, Majid Shahriari, was a member of the nuclear engineering team at the Shahid Behesti university in Tehran.

No one claimed responsibility for the aggressions against the Iranian nuclear ingroup and no arrests have been made, Persian officials said. But they prompted a stern warning by the normally phlegmatic head of Iran's atomic energy agency, Ali Akbar Salehi, who described Shahriari as a former student.

"Do not play with fire," he said, according to IRNA. "There is a limit to the Iranian nation's patience and if we run out of patience the enemy will suffer adverse consequences. Of course we still maintain our patience."
Of course. Although I'm not sure the attackers were exactly playing with fire.

Iranian government minister blames CIA, Mossad for scientist killing
IRAN'S interior government minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar tonight accused the US and Israeli intelligence services - the CIA and Mossad - of killing a prominent nuclear scientist.

"Mossad and the CIA are the enemies of Iranians and always seek to hurt this nation. They particularly want to stop our scientific progress," he said, after state media reported one Iranian nuclear scientist was killed and another wounded in separate attacks in the capital.

"The desperate terrorist act against the two academics shows their weakness and inferiority," he said of today's attacks, in which assailants on motorbikes reportedly attached bombs to the scientists' cars on their way to work.

Iran was quick to blame Israel following the twin blasts.

"In a criminal terrorist act, the agents of the Zionist regime attacked two prominent university professors who were on their way to work," the website of Iran's state television network reported earlier Monday, referring to arch-foe Israel.

"Dr Majid Shahriari was killed and his wife was injured. Dr Fereydoon Abbasi and his wife were injured," the report said.

Fars news agency said the scientists were targeted in two different locations by men on motorcycles who approached their vehicles and attached bombs to their cars.

Shahriari was a member of the nuclear engineering department of Shahid Beheshti University in northern Tehran, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Abbasi held a PhD in nuclear physics and did nuclear research at the defense ministry, the hardline news website Mashreghnews said.

The website said Abbasi, 52, was "one of the few specialists who can separate isotopes" and was a "member of the Revolutionary Guards since the revolution" in 1979.

The reported attacks came a day after the top US military officer said the United States, which is suspicious of Iran's nuclear drive, was weighing military options in the face of Tehran's announcement it had a nuclear power plant up and running.
