-Lurid Crime Tales-
Japan Police Arrest Teens for 'IS-Inspired' Killing
[AnNahar] Japanese police on Friday tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
three teenagers on suspicion of killing a 13-year-old schoolboy, in a chilling murder some local media suggested was inspired by Islamist Death Eater executions.
Try 'em fair, then hang 'em high. This is shameful.
The brutalised and naked body of Ryota Uemura was found in undergrowth near a river last Friday. His neck had been repeatedly hacked at, apparently with a blood-soaked knife that was discovered nearby.

Low-crime Japan has been captivated by the killing, with media reporting every twist and turn in the investigation, including details of how the youngster's mobile phone was used to send a friend request on a messaging app around the time of his death.

Populist weekly Shukan Shincho reported the wounds appeared to indicate that whoever killed Ryota may have been trying to decapitate him.

"Some Sherlocks suspect (the criminals) watched Internet videos showing the execution of hostages by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) fighters and sought to mimic them," the magazine said, quoting an unnamed source close to police.

Kanagawa Police Department on Friday arrested an 18-year-old boy and two 17-year-olds, whose names were withheld because they are legally minors, on suspicion of murder, public broadcaster NHK and other media reported.

While a police front man declined to confirm the reports, Sherlocks also obtained arrest warrants for two other teenagers over the murder in Kawasaki, an industrial city southwest of Tokyo, media said.

Junior high school student Ryota reportedly knew the suspects, and had been attacked by them previously, media said.

Violent crime is exceedingly rare in Japan and becomes very big news when it occurs.
But bullying is much more common, sometimes ending in suicide. The nail that sticks out gets hammered down, after all.

Afghanistan
Afghan military routes Taliban from Sangin. Again.
[USNEWS] Afghan forces on Friday routed the Taliban from a large swath of a key southern province that has long been an important myrmidon stronghold, in their first major solo operation since international combat forces pulled out of the country, an American general and a senior Afghan police officer said.

The operation, which began Feb. 10, succeeded in clearing snuffies out of Sangin district in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, said Maj. Gen. Kurt Fuller, deputy chief of staff for U.S. and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
operations in Afghanistan.

The area has long been an important Taliban stronghold and a major poppy-producing region but on Friday, Afghan forces "secured Sangin and the whole district has been cleared," Fuller told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Fuller said the Afghan forces ran into "four strong points that the Taliban just didn't want to give up and it took them a while" to seize those, including a school that had been booby-trapped with explosives.

The Taliban have had intermittent control of large parts of Helmand and neighboring Kandahar province since they were driven from power in a U.S.-led invasion in 2001, after the Sept. 11, 2001 al-Qaeda attacks on the United States.

The operation that secured Sangin also cleared the snuffies from large parts of the Helmand River valley, which has long supplied most of the world's heroin, through Taliban-financed poppy production.

Much of the Taliban presence in the region is meant to protect supply routes for drugs, which fund the insurgency, and arms. Taliban leaders are believed to be based over the border in Pakistain.

Fuller said that far from a previous reputation as incompetent, the Afghan cops proved able to coordinate across all formats, including police, border police, special forces and intelligence.

Boko Haram Fighters Turn to Cannibalism in Nigerian Forest
[ClarionProject] Members of the violent Nigerian Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, who have been chased into the Magumeri forest have reportedly begun to eat each other after being stranded for days without food or water. Magumeri forest is approximately 150 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Mallam Momodu Bukar, a suspected member of the outlawed sect told reporters in Maiduguri that the group was beginning to slaughter non-combatant members to provide food for the fighters. He fled the forest camp when he realized that he might be next in line. "I thank God that I escaped because I would have been slaughtered by now to provide meals for my colleagues at the camp," Bukar said.

Boko Haram Raid Villages after Chadian Offensive
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters have raided villages in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
on the border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, apparently in reprisal for a Chadian offensive against its hideouts, residents told Agence La Belle France-Presse on Friday.

Scores of heavily armed turbans on Wednesday rampaged through more than a dozen villages in the Kala-Balge district in Borno state, shooting, hacking residents to death and razing homes.

Hundreds of residents fled across the border into Cameroon, prompting Chad -- part of a regional coalition against the Islamists -- to respond by bombarding rebel positions, they said.

"They targeted mainly Shuwa rustics, who are from the same ethnic group as a large number of the Chadian troops," said Adum Walfannea, himself a Shuwa Arab, from Anguduram village.

Kurso Khala, who fled one of the worst-affected villages, Mudu, said the turbans besieged a local market and blocked all but one entrance.

"They would ask if a person is Kanuri or Shuwa before asking him to go," said Khala by telephone from Fotokol, across the border from the Nigerian town of Gamboru in the far north of Cameroon.

"Once a person was identified as Shuwa‎ he would be shot in the back as soon as he stepped out of the market entrance to leave."

Walfannea and Imar Koshnana, from Musiye village, both said the corpse count from the attacks could be high but there was no official confirmation of numbers.

News of the raids come as Nigeria's military trumpets its success in recapturing several towns from Boko Haram and after President Goodluck Jonathan
... 14th President of Nigeria. He was Governor of Bayelsa State from 9 December 2005 to 28 May 2007, and was sworn in as Vice President on 29 May 2007. Jonathan is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). He is a lover of nifty hats, which makes him easily recognizable unless someone else in the room is wearing a neat chapeau...
said the "tide had turned" against the bad boys.

Details were slow to emerge because the holy warriors have destroyed telecom masts since the insurgency began in 2009.

The attacks follow a Chadian ground and aerial offensive against Boko Haram enclaves in the Kala-Balge district that began on February 17 after troops seized the strategic town of Dikwa.

Residents said Boko Haram suffered heavy casualties in the Chadian attacks, which were near the group's Sambisa Forest stronghold, where they have long had camps.

One resident from the herding village of Gonori near Gamboru, Umar Sanda, said troops fought back after Boko Haram stole more than 400 cattle and killed four residents in a pre-dawn raid on Tuesday.

"For more than two hours we kept hearing sounds of gunfire and kabooms," he added. "The Chadian troops killed scores of the Boko Haram gunnies and recovered our cattle."

Bangladesh
Avijit murdered by professional killers
[Dhaka Tribune] The attack on author Avijit Roy and his wife was carried out by professional machete-wielding killers in a premeditated manner, Sherlocks have said, adding that initial leads suggest that fundamentalist Lions of Islam were behind the killing.

"Two persons took part in the killing mission that lasted around two minutes. From the spot [of the killing], we have collected two machetes and a handbag; but both of the machetes' handles were wrapped in paper, so it was not possible to get any fingerprint from it," Shirjaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh cop shoppe, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Quoting witnesses, the OC said the two assailants were aged between 30 and 35 years; one of them was wearing a white shirt and black trouser and the other wearing a grey coat.

"Soon after the incident, they just disappeared. The murder would not have been possible without backup support, and we are suspecting that the killers might have had other associates nearby as they had carried out the killing in a preplanned way," Shirajul said.

Based on previous incidents and analysing the method of the attack, the police was now investigating myrmidon links to the killing, the OC added.

Avijit, 45, was hacked to death and his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonna, 35, was maimed in an attack by person or persons unknown near the TSC roundabout on Thursday night.

Bonna is currently being treated at the capital's Square Hospital. She is reportedly in a stable, but critical condition.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
as per Avijit's wishes, his body will now be handed over to the Dhaka Medical College for medical research, said the slain author's cousin Bishnu Roy.

Family sources said Avijit -- a naturalised US citizen who lived in the US state of Georgia -- came to Bangladesh with his wife on February 15 after two new books by him were published at the Ekushey Book Fair.

Since arriving in Dhaka, the author, who rose to prominence with his Bangla-language blog site Mukto-mona, had been visiting the book fair every day -- reportedly staying there until the end of business hours.

During this period, the perpetrators might have monitored the movement of Avijit to plan the attack, Shahbagh OC Shirajul said. An inquest report has also found that the main target of the culprits was to murder Avijit, he added.

Militant group claims responsibility
Only hours after the death of the author and blogger, the responsibility of the crime was claimed by a Twitter account reportedly belonging to "Ansar Bangla 7" - a group believed to be an Islamist outfit.

"Allahu Akbar..A great success today here in #Bangladesh. Target is Down -:- here in #Dhaka," read the tweet by the group.

"Anti-Islamic blogger US-Bengali citizen Avijit Roy is assassinated in capital Dhaka due to his crime against #Islam," another tweet also followed soon after.

Acknowledging the tweet, Ramna division's Assistant Commissioner of police SM Shibli Noman told the Dhaka Tribune that Sherlocks were considering myrmidon involvement as the prime lead, as the method of attack was almost similar to the previous attacks on another blogger -- Ahmed Rajib Haider -- and author Prof Humayun Azad.

Staines, Surrey man sells everything, joins Christian militia to fight ISIS

[Inquisiter] Tim Locks was once an imposing sight for British drunks, a beast of a man who served as a bouncer for Cheekies nightclub in Surrey who tossed out patrons when they got too unruly.

But now the 38-year-old has decided to take on a much bigger fight, selling his belongings and moving to Iraq to join the fight against ISIS. Locks, who also runs his own construction business, said he was moved when he learned about the plight of the Yazidi people, a small religious group pinned down by ISIS over the summer.

The group was trapped on Mount Sinjar, stuck without adequate food or supplies and subject to attacks meant at wiping them out. ISIS slaughtered scores of civilians and kidnapped women and girls to force them into sex slavery.

Tim Locks, sitting in his beautiful home, knew he had to do something to help.

"Last summer I was at home, watching the news and I saw pictures of Mount Sinjar," he told the Daily Mail. "I just thought I have a great life, job, beautiful house and I thought it is time to help someone else."

Locks said he's not a religious man himself, but he was able to connect with a Christian militia called Dhekh Nawsha, which in Assyrian means "self sacrificers."
He'll discover 'religion' soon enough. Hat tip to him.

Caribbean-Latin America
Mexico Captures Knights Templar Cartel Leader
[AnNahar] Mexican police captured Knights Templar narco mob leader Servando Gomez on Friday, whose gang tormented western Michoacan state, smuggled drugs to the United States and illegally shipped iron ore to China.

One of Mexico's most wanted runaways, the man nicknamed "La Tuta" was detained without a shot fired in Morelia, Michoacan's capital, a National Security Commission official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The 49-year-old former teacher was being transferred to Mexico City, where authorities will hold a presser about the capture, which was the result "of several months of intelligence work by federal police," the official said.

With his arrest, the authorities have now taken down the four top leaders of the cartel, dealing a huge blow to the criminal organization that once dominated the agricultural and mining state through murder, kidnappings and extortion.

The capture is a victory for President Enrique Pena Nieto amid falling approval ratings and public anger over his handling of violence in the neighboring state of Guerrero, where 43 students were allegedly killed by a gang in league with local police.

The government has neutralized some of the country's most wanted kingpins since Pena Nieto took office in December 2012, including the head of the powerful Sinaloa narco mob, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who was detained early last year after a 13-year manhunt.

Gomez is believed to have become the de facto boss after the group's founder, Nazario "El Chayo" Moreno, was killed by marines in March 2014. (Moreno had been wrongly declared dead by officials in 2010).

The cult-like gang's members were made to read a religion-tinged codebook. After Moreno's fake death, statues were built in his honor, wearing medieval armor and holding a sword.

The Knights Templar gang is a spinoff of another gang called La Familia Michoacana.

Unlike the more shadowy bosses of Mexico's numerous narco gangs, Gomez was a talkative former school teacher who appeared in online videos and television interviews.

He nurtured a Robin Hood image in his mountain hometown of Arteaga, where residents told AFP journalists during a visit in May 2014 that Gomez threw parties, sent gifts and gave out cash.

"People are pleased because he helps them," Rosalba Barragan, the caretaker of the Gomez family ranch, told AFP at the time.

In videos and interviews, he always wore a baseball cap, jeans and a gun holstered to his belt.

Some of his videos ensnared local politicians caught sharing beers or casually chatting with him around a table. A former interim governor was tossed in the slammer
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
after he appeared in one tape.

Appearing in front of cows or surrounded by masked gunnies, he used videos to rail against his rivals, but claimed that his gang wanted "peace and calm" in Michoacan.

At the height of its power, the cartel imported drug precursors from Asia to manufacture crystal meth before exporting the potent drug to the United States.

But the organization diversified its business, tapping iron ore mines and exporting the mineral to China via the Pacific port of Lazaro Cardenas.

The military took over the port in 2013, shutting down iron ore shipments, which are due to resume this year after authorities tightened regulations.

Civilians formed vigilante forces in February 2013 to expel the cartel from their towns, accusing local police of either turning a blind eye or colluding with the gang.

The federal government backed the civilian militias and deputized them in May 2014. But infighting led to deadly festivities between two rival vigilante groups in December.

The government said the "rural force" would be disbanded, but that its members could apply to join a unified state command.

Europe
Norway Arrests Radical Preacher who Praised Charlie Hebdo Killers
In which Mullah Krekar once again attracts negative attention from the no-longer tolerant authorities.
[AnNahar] A radical Islamic preacher has been locked away
You have the right to remain silent...
in Norway after praising last month's deadly attack on the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
satirical weekly in Gay Paree, police said Friday.

The Iraqi Kurd preacher known as Mullah Krekar said in a television interview broadcast on Wednesday that "those who draw caricatures of Mohammed must die".

Krekar, who was only freed from prison late last month, was locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
Thursday night on accusations of inciting crime, police said.

"I am obviously happy with what happened in Gay Paree," the 58-year-old said in the interview with Norwegian channel NRK.

Krekar also responded "yes" when asked if he believed those who carried out the attack were heroes.

When a cartoonist "tramples on our dignity, our principles and our faith, he must die," he said.

"Those who do not respect 30 percent of the Earth's population do not deserve to live."
Skinless people in a sandpaper world.
Jihadist gunnies killed 12 people, including some of La Belle France's best-known cartoonists, in the January 7 attack on Charlie Hebdo's Gay Paree office.

Another five people were killed in the three-day spree, including four Jews bumped off at a kosher supermarket and a policewoman.

Krekar was released from prison at the end of January after serving a two-year, 10-month sentence for making threats against Prime Minister Erna Solberg before she came to office and three Kurds.

Krekar, whose real name is Najmeddine Faraj Ahmad, has been living in Norway since 1991.

He has been at risk of deportation since 2003 after Norwegian authorities ordered him to be expelled as a threat to national security.

While courts have upheld the ruling, Norwegian law bars him from being deported to Iraq, where he risks the death penalty.
So selfish. Why should Norway exclusively enjoy the pleasure of his company, when the folks back home miss him so?
Krekar also founded the radical Islamist group Ansar al-Islam, but insists he has not led it since 2002.

The preacher and Ansar al-Islam figure on U.N. and U.S. lists of terrorist groups or individuals.

Man pretending to carry bomb detained outside US consulate
[Hurriyet Daily News] Istanbul police have detained a man in front of the US consulate in Istanbul, after he threatened to detonate a bomb he said he was carrying.

Turkish police sealed off a street outside the consulate after the suspect was detained.

According to initial reports, the man, who is thought to have mental problems, was not carrying a bomb.

A U.S. diplomat told Rooters that the consulate had taken precautionary measures following a security alert.

Istanbul has been on high security alert since January, when a jacket wallah blew herself up at a cop shoppe in the historic Sultanahmet neighborhood, killing one officer and wounding another.

Mustapha Fawaz, Fouzi Fawaz, and Abdallah Tahini were sanctioned for acting for or on behalf of Hizbullah in Nigeria, the Treasury said in a statement.

"Amigo Supermarket Limited, Wonderland Amusement Park and Resort Ltd, and Kafak Enterprises Limited have also been designated ... for being owned or controlled by Mustapha and Fouzi Fawaz," it said.

"Any property or interests in property these individuals or entities may have within U.S. jurisdiction are frozen and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from dealing with them," the statement added.

Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam J. Szubin said the U.S. "will track Hizbullah's illicit activities to all corners of the earth."

"Together with our international partners, we are tirelessly working to dismantle Hizbullah's financial apparatus. Wherever this terrorist group may seek to raise funds, we will target and expose its activity," he added.

According to the Treasury, Mustapha Fawaz has been "a significant donor" to Hizbullah. He was detained in mid-May 2013 by Nigerian authorities.

Since the 1990s, he has been involved in activities related to communications, surveillance, and reporting for Hizbullah, it said.

His brother Fouzi was also an official with Hizbullah's foreign relations department, it said, adding Nigerian authorities issued an arrest warrant for him in 2013.

Together, the Fawaz brothers co-own a 70% share of Amigo Supermarket, as well as 100% of the shares of Wonderland Amusement Park & Resort Ltd. in Abuja and Kafak Enterprises Ltd., a holding company, the Treasury said.

Southeast Asia
Three Jemaah Islamiyah bombers seen in Sulu
[ABS-CBN News] Three alleged bomb experts from the Jemaah Islamiyah terror group have been seen in the province of Sulu. According to Ensign Ian Chester Ramos, spokesperson for Joint Task Force Zambasulta, the foreign terrorists were seen with the Abu Sayyaf in a gun battle that broke out last Wednesday.

Two Philippine soldiers were killed in the clash and 16 others were wounded. Ramos said 14 Abu Sayyaf militants also died in the fierce battle, which lasted for several hours. A number of Abu Sayyaf members were also wounded, including Hatib Sawadjaan, one of the leaders of the rebel group in Sulu.

The Western Mindanao Command has said five JI bomb experts have been conducting bomb-making training with members of the Abu Sayyaf Group and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. JI members are also targets in the current Philippine offensive against the BIFF in Central Mindanao.

The five foreign terrorists, who came from Malaysia, have been supporting the Islamic State, recruiting local rebels in Mindanao to forge an alliance with the IS.

Heavy clashes with BIFF forces in Maguindanao
[Gulf Today] Philippine security forces and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters engaged in heavy clashes in Maguindanao province the military reported on Friday. Captain Jo-Ann Petinglay said the running battles centered on several villages in the towns of Datu Saudi Ampatuan and Datu Unsay.

The fighting resulted in the closure of a major highway linking Maguindanao to other areas in Mindanao and caused the evacuation of thousands of residents. Petinglay noted the evacuation started as early as Friday morning when local residents noticed the presence of heavily-armed BIFF militants in the area.

Chief MILF peace negotiator Mohagher Iqbal said that they had ordered all its field commanders to avoid the fighting. He said, "The directive is clear for our men to step aside and give way to the military operation. Our only concern and appeal is for the military to ensure the safety of the civilians (in the fighting)."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian regime expels three U.N. aid workers
[ARA] The Syrian regime has reportedly expelled three U.N. aid workers, officials said on Friday.

The U.N. reports emphasize that expelling its workers will prevent aid delivery to affected civilians in war-torn areas of Syria.

Expelling the three aid workers comes one day before the U.N. special envoy Steffan de Mistura arrives in Damascus to discuss his peace plan with Syrian regimes officials.

De Mistura's proposal is supposed to start with creating a so-called "freeze-zone" above the war-torn city of Aleppo in order to suspend the fighting between the conflicting parties and the shelling against civilians for a minimum period of six weeks.

"We are extremely concerned that two OCHA staff, doing essential work with opposition parties on the ground to secure access for the delivery of urgently-needed humanitarian supplies, have been asked to leave the country without any reason given," said Jens Laerke, front man of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Laerke refried to the two OCHA aid workers as essential field officers.

Te third aid worker expelled from Syria was a senior UNICEF staff who used to work in Aleppo on the delivery of humanitarian aid to children.

"This news is of great concern, given the extremely difficult situation for children in Aleppo amid the continuing violence there," said Simon Ingram, a front man of the U.N. Children's Fund.

and IS.

The main Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) said its fighters had liberated Tal Hamis and surrounding communities at the request of residents "who wanted to get rid of these turbans and mercenaries."

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said "the jihadists retreated without much resistance after Kurdish forces, backed by Arab fighters, returned to Tal Hamis."

The Kurds now occupy a strip of land linking the Hasakeh provincial town, which has been under IS control for more than a year, with the Iraqi border.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said it was "one of the most important strongholds" of the group in the region.

The Kurdish advance comes after days of fighting in which YPG forces have taken some 103 villages and hamlets.

Since the festivities began last Saturday, at least 175 IS fighters have been killed by the Kurds and in air strikes by a U.S.-led coalition.

Additionally, 30 fighters from the YPG and Arab units fighting alongside them have been killed. Among the dead was an Australian, the first Westerner to die in a Kurdish unit in Syria.

The Pentagon said the coalition had carried out several air strikes in Hasakeh province on Thursday, including three near Tal Hamis.

The fighting came as Kurdish forces continued to battle IS after an offensive elsewhere in the province in which the jihadists kidnapped at least 220 Assyrian Christians.

- Mass exodus -
The offensive, during which IS also seized 10 villages, has prompted a mass exodus of an estimated 5,000 people to the cities of Qamishli and Hasakeh.

Jean Tolo, an official with the Assyrian Organization for Relief and Development in Qamishli, said the pace of arrivals had slowed by Friday.

"We are offering the displaced food and everything they need," he told Agence La Belle France-Presse by telephone.

"There are doctors working for free ready to deal with any emergency," he added.

Assyrians number about 30,000 among Syria's 1.2 million Christians and mostly live along the Khabur River in Hasakeh.

More than 210,00 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
Britannia and La Belle France said Assad cannot credibly be part of any future government combating the IS threat.

"We need a partner in Syria to work with against the snuffies and this means a political settlement agreed between the Syrian parties leading to a unity government in Syria," British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius write in a joint editorial in Le Monde and Al-Hayat newspapers.

"It is clear to us that Assad could not credibly be part of any such administration.

Army's Operation in Ras Baalbek Continues for Second Day in a Row
[AnNahar] The army continued to target on Friday bully boy posts on the outskirts of the northeastern border village of Ras Baalbek in the Bekaa, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The sounds of kabooms were heard in nearby villages in the Bekaa.

The Lebanese army helicopters accompanied troops on the field along Leb's Eastern Mountain Range.

Army Commander Gen. Jean Qahwaji and Defense Minister Samir Moqbel also toured the outskirts of Ras Baalbek to inspect the progress of the military operation.

The Lebanese army seized on Thursday two hilltop positions on the outskirts of Ras Baalbek.

Moqbel hailed thecapabilities of the Lebanese troops who defeated the holy warriors and took full control of the two strategic posts.

"The army's accomplishments confirm that it has a solid national conviction," the defense minister said.

For his part, Qahwaji stressed that the continuous sacrifices made by soldiers deployed along Leb's eastern border are aimed at safeguarding the nearby villages and block infiltration attempts by terrorist organizations.

"The unique military operation reflects the army's strict decision to combat terrorism and protect citizens."

The army command said in a communique that the operation was in line with efforts to secure villages near the eastern border with neighboring Syria.

Three soldiers were maimed in the operation, during which bully boy positions were shelled with artillery and heavy weaponry, it added.

The statement did not name the bully boys, but most are believed to be from the Islamic State
