during an ambush of the Afghan cops in northern Baghlan province.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a statement said the group’s shadow district chief for Khost Farang was arrested during the ambush of the Afghan national police forces earlier this morning.

The anti-government armed Death Eater groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the shadow governor of the group was arrested during a similar operation in Dand-e-Ghori district of Baghlan nearly two months ago.

Kenya foils terror attack planned by Somali militants
[SHABELLENEWS] Kenya has seized six men suspected of planning an attack sponsored by the al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
bully boy group from neighboring Somalia, the head of Kenyan police said late on Sunday.

In recent weeks, the East African nation has lost 20 officers in various attacks, mostly on deserted roads in the vast northern region bordering Somalia, in which the turbans used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Joseph Boinnet, the inspector general of the police, said in a statement that two of the suspects were Kenyans and the others were Somali nationals. Police also seized assembled explosives, four boom jackets and bomb-making materials such as TNT.

"The six had been dispatched from Burhanche in Somalia by their commanders to launch attacks in Kenya," Boinnet said.

Kenyan security forces worked with their counterparts in Somalia to foil the attack and to capture the suspects. The captured men were being interrogated to establish the extent of the entire network, Boinnet said.

Kenya has faced a constant security challenge from across the border ever since it sent its troops into Somalia in late 2011, to help defeat the al-Shabaab turbans and restore order.

’s Shia-dominated Eastern Province, the Interior Ministry says.

According to a statement released by Saudi Interior Ministry, a bomb, believed to be an improvised bomb, exploded beside a police patrol car as it was inspecting the old quarter of Awamiyah Village, known as al-Mosara, at 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday.

The kaboom, which occurred in the restive Qatif region, killed "Major Tariq bin Abdullatif al-A'laqi" and inflicted injuries on two coppers "whose health conditions are stable," further said the ministry, which described the blast as a "terrorist incident."

No individual or group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

On May 16, a Saudi soldier was also killed and five others were maimed when gunnies fired a rocket-propelled grenade at their patrol car in Awamiyah.

ISIS turbans have killed more than 40 Shia Moslems since the terror group began a campaign of bombings and shootings in Eastern Province in 2014.

Furthermore, the Shia-populated Eastern Province, particularly the Qatif region, has been the scene of peaceful demonstrations since February 2011. Protesters, complaining of marginalization in the Sunni-ruled kingdom, have been demanding reforms, freedom of expression, the release of political prisoners, and an end to economic and religious discrimination against the oil-rich region.

Bangladesh
10 suspected militants arrested in Bangladesh amid crackdown
[Iran Press TV] Police in Bangladesh have made 10 fresh arrests as a crackdown on members of an outlawed turban group widens across the country.

Security officials said on Monday that six young men, aged between 19 and 23, had been tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
overnight in a raid on their hideouts in the capital Dhaka.

Police counter-terrorism chief Monirul Islam said the six had been plotting to kill a top Islamic scholar during the current holy month of Ramadan. He said the outspoken holy man, whose name was not disclosed, was known for his criticism of Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
ideologies.

Islam said the suspected Death Eaters had been closely watching the scholar’s house and the plan to kill him was going ahead. He added that all those arrested were members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s which remains obscure even today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB), a banned group which is routinely blamed by the government for attacks on bloggers, publishers, writers, members of minority groups and foreigners.

Later reports said the suspects would be kept in jug for interrogation as police received authorization from a judge in Dhaka.

Police also carried out a raid on a turban hideout in a northwestern district of Dhaka on Monday. Three people were arrested in the raid while police seized explosives and guns. Also a writer, whose works are believed to have inspired young people to join turban groups, was arrested earlier in the day.

Bangladesh insists that the JMB was behind a deadly siege on a restaurant in Dhaka's diplomatic zone last July. Twenty people, including 17 foreigners, were killed in the attack claimed by the ISIS terrorist group. The Takfiri group, which is mainly operating in the Middle East, has vowed to carry out other attacks in Bangladesh.

Some 60 suspected Death Eaters have been killed across Bangladesh in the crackdown launched since the hostage-taking in the restaurant. The government has vowed to continue the crackdown until it crushes militancy in the South Asian country.

4 Syrians face terrorism charges in Germany
12 June
[Ynet] German authorities say they've arrested four Syrians on terrorism charges for allegedly fighting for an extremist group in their homeland.

Mustafa K., 41, Abdullah K., 39, Sultan K., 44, and Ahmed K., 51, whose last names weren't released according to privacy regulations, are accused of membership in a terrorist organization for fighting for the Nusra Front in the northern Syrian city Ras al-Ayn starting in late 2012. Federal prosecutors said in a statement Monday they were allegedly involved in the group's fight against Syrian government troops and Kurdish defense forces.

Germany arrests alleged darknet purveyor of weapons, drugs
12 June
[DW] German authorities arrested the suspected administrator of a darknet platform that sold illegal weapons and drugs, federal prosecutors announced on Monday. The site, which had some 20,000 members, is reportedly responsible for selling weapons to the teenager who killed 10 people including himself at a shooting in Munich last year.

The 30-year-old, whose name was not released, was arrested on Thursday after a months-long investigation into his business. Police suspect that he has run the darknet site since 2013, trafficking not only in drugs and weapons but also in credit card numbers and account passwords.

The July 22, 2016 shooting in Munich shocked Germany, a place where such occurrences are rare for a country that allows (under certain restricted circumstances) private gun ownership. The 18-year-old perpetrator killed 9 people and injured 36 more after he opened fire at a McDonald's franchise near a shopping mall.

Two men charged over refugee home blast 'received military training in Russia'
9 June
[TheLocal.se] The three men were charged on Friday in connection with a series of bomb incidents in the western city of Gothenburg last winter. One man is accused of having constructed all three bombs, another of providing the explosives and a third of placing the bomb on the campsite, Sweden's prosecutorial authority said on Friday.

All three men have been linked to the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement; however, the attacks are not believed to be directly connected to the organization.

"Rather, there are indications that they were dissatisfied with the leadership within the Nordic Resistance Movement for not wanting to use violence to the same extent as they wanted to," said Ljungqvist. "We can also see that two of the suspects shortly before the attacks received military training in Russia."

Geneva airport staff receive training to spot signs of radicalization
7 June
[TheLocal.ch] Security personnel at Geneva airport have been taking a new course to help them spot the signs of radicalization among their colleagues, according to media reports.

Indeed, at the end of 2015 over 30 baggage handlers had their security passes revoked after it came to light that two of them, both French citizens, were on the radar of the French security services who believed them to have been radicalized. The incident led to a spat between the French and Swiss authorities, with the French refusing to give Switzerland information vital for security checks on 200 French workers hired by the airport.

Currently, baggage handlers are not receiving the new training, which applies to some 370 airport workers and 450 personnel from private security companies. However the course may be extended to other pass-holders once it has been evaluated, said Le Temps.

Isis uses Nutella jars and cat GIFs to lure Westerners: study
7 June
[TheLocal.se] Isis uses Western imagery, Nutella jars and cat GIFs to tempt young people in the West to join its caliphate, a new Swedish study found.

Imagery of violence and weapons alone are not the way to go if you want to attract young Westerners to join Isis. Instead, the violent extremist group pushes its 'Jihadi Cool' subculture to draw in people from the West, according to a group of Swedish researchers who have studied Isis propaganda

The study, titled The Digital Caliphate: A study of propaganda from the Islamic State, was carried out by the Swedish Defence Research Agency (Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut, FOI).

Italian police bust migrant trafficking ring in Sicily
6 June
[TheLocal.it] The Italian police said on Tuesday that they had broken a smuggling ring between Tunisia and Sicily which was preparing to bring migrants with suspected jihadist links to Europe. The "Scorpionfish" operation had been shadowing the group since January, targeting 15 Italian or Tunisian citizens sought by arrest warrants.

The traffickers carried about 15 migrants paying 2,000 to 3,000 euros each and dozens of kilos of cigarettes, with each crossing generating around 40,000 euros ($45,000).

With summer approaching they were preparing to increase the number of trips to two a week, using speedboats to cross from northeast Tunisia to the Trapani region in western Sicily in about four hours.

The group was apparently willing to bring over people sought by Tunisian authorities for serious crimes or possible links with jihadists, but the police broke up the network before a trip carrying these suspects could be made.

The Tunisian coast guard has struggled to keep up with smuggling gangs using high-performance vessels to ferry people across the Strait of Sicily.

Man who murdered young child in refugee home was ex-convict
6 June
[TheLocal.de] Prosecutors in Regensburg revealed on Monday that an Afghan asylum seeker who stabbed a five-year-old boy to death on Saturday was wearing an ankle monitor at the time.

The man had been convicted of arson by a Munich court in 2009 and sentenced to five years and ten months in jail, the prosecutors revealed. Since then he had been wearing an electronic ankle monitor, which was intended to prevent him leaving the refugee camp in Arnschwang, near the Czech border, where the crime took place.

Munich tried to have the man deported in 2014, but he fought a successful legal case against the expulsion, claiming that he had converted to Christianity and that his life would be in danger in Afghanistan as a result.
Clearly he doesn't understand what being a Christian entails.

Austrian court jails parents who took kids to live under IS
3 June
[TheLocal.at] An Austrian court on Friday sentenced to up to 10 years in jail two couples who took their children to live in an IS-controlled part of Syria and showed them execution videos. The two men and their wives travelled to Syria with their eight children -- the youngest of whom was two years old -- in December 2014, the trial in the southern city Graz heard.

Defendant Hasan O., 49, denied in court being a member of IS and said that he worked as a masseur treating injured fighters.

"I heard in the mosque (in Graz) that you can live according to Islam there, with freedom for the women and children," he told the trial.

The dream soon went sour, however, and the families fled Syria in April 2016. Turkey then extradited them to Austria and the children were taken into care. All four -- Hasan O. and his wife Kata O., Enes S. and his wife Michaela S. -- were convicted of belonging to a terrorist organisation and of mistreating and neglecting children. All except Austrian-born Muslim convert Michaela S. were from Bosnia but all had Austrian citizenship.

German parliament passes law ending child marriage
2 June
[TheLocal.de] The German parliament passed a law ending child marriage late on Thursday night, officially raising the marriageable age to 18.

The new law officially makes 18 the minimum age for marriage. Previously, 16-year-olds were allowed to marry adults in certain cases with court permission.

The legislation also nullifies any existing marriages in which at least one spouse was under the age of 16 at the time of the wedding. This is particularly aimed at marriages done outside of Germany.

Courts will also be able to nullify marriages where a spouse was 16 or 17 years old.

Iraq
Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces continue advance into old Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces advanced further Monday in a neighborhood near the Old City in western Mosul as operations continue towards the Islamic State’s last bastion in the city.

Maj. Ali al-Yasseri, from the Federal Police service, told Shafaaq News that the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response forces advanced at al-Boursa (stock market) neighborhood south of Zanjili, a major IS entrenchment north of the Old City which Iraqi forces said they recaptured on Saturday.

Though the Joint Operations Command said Sunday it totally liberated Zanjili’s southern section, it seems some confrontations continue there at al-Boursa, where, Yasseri said, forces also managed to evacuate 67 civilian families from the front line.

On Sunday, Ojeil Mohamed al-Khaffaf, a captain in the Rapid Response forces, said 13 militants were killed in intense confrontations at al-Boursa.

The JOC said its forces invaded the Old City from Bab Sinjar, a northern entrance, after recapturing Zanjili. The Old City was the birthplace of the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed “caliphate” when supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made a sermon with the announcement.

14 die in Mosul fighting

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Several Iraqi soldiers, Islamic State militants were killed in fierce confrontations that took place in the vicinity of Madinat al-Tib (medical city), in western Mosul, an informed security source said.

“Three soldiers and eleven militants were killed during confrontations that occurred on Monday at the areas surrounding Madinet al-Tib, in al-Shifa district, northwest of Mosul,” the source told Shafaaq News.

Security troops, according to the source, cordoned off the medical city and now besiege the militants inside. He expected it to be fully liberated within the coming few hours.

Earlier on Saturday, the Iraqi government forces recaptured Zanjili district in western Mosul, leaving only one district of al-Shifa in Islamic State’ grip before reaching its strategic stronghold in the Old City neighborhood, which is home to the Grand Nuri Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader proclaimed the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

Less than 1000 fighters remaining in the Old City, according to commanders from the Iraqi leadership and the allied U.S.-led coalition.

44 ISIS Bad Guys pining for the Fjords in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces made incursions on Monday into western Mosul’s Old City district, Islamic State’s last bastion in the city, an officer has said.

Cap. Adel Haider, from Nineveh police service, told BasNews that Federal Police forces invaded Bab Sinjar popular market, engaging in violent encounters with IS militants who included suicide bombers.

“Security forces are putting the market under a full siege…..and killed nearly 23 militants, including suicide attackers,” Haider said, adding that army warplanes backed the offensive.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said Sunday its forces invaded the Old City from Bab Sinjar, a northern entrance, after recapturing Zanjili district. The Old City, currently IS’s last hideout in western Mosul, was the birthplace of the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed “caliphate” when supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made a sermon with the announcement in 2014.

Also on Monday, DPA quoted Iraqi security sources saying that field hospitals had received the dead bodies of 21 IS militants from several areas retaken from the extremist group. The corpses, which bore gunshot marks in the head, had been strewn at streets, the source said, adding they had probably been executed by unknown individuals.

Iraqi forces capture 5 villages near western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The War Media Cell has announced liberating five villages in Mahalabiya, a region which Iraqi forces and PMUs had previously isolated from Mosul.

In a statement on Monday, Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, head of Nineveh Operations Command, said, troops liberated villages of Sheikh Qurret al-Sufla,Tishet al-Atshana, al-Shuhadaa, al-Aziziya and al-Mawali, west of Atshana mountains, in east of Mahlabiya, located west of Mosul.

Troops advanced further on Monday in a neighborhood near the Old City in western Mosul .

On Sunday, the Joint Operations Command said it totally liberated Zanjili’s southern section and invaded the Old City from Bab Sinjar, a northern entrance, after recapturing Zanjili.

Earlier on Saturday, the Iraqi government forces recaptured Zanjili district in western Mosul, leaving only one district of al-Shifa in Islamic State’ grip before reaching its strategic stronghold in the Old City neighborhood, which is home to the Grand Nuri Mosque, the place where IS supreme leader proclaimed the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

terrorist group last month, the Shin Bet security service announced on Monday.

Over the past few months, the suspects swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, after they "were exposed to radical media content connected to the ISIS organization," the Shin Bet said, using the terror group’s Arabic nickname. The agency said they had collected evidence showing all three had communicated with Islamic State operatives abroad.

The three suspects were also found to have created an improvised bomb, the security service said. One of the suspects discussed with IS operatives the possibility of traveling abroad in order to fight in the terror group’s ranks, the Shin Bet said.

The teenage suspects are all from the town of Barta’a, in northern Israel. Two of them are 17 years old, while the third is now 18 years old, though he is suspected of committing the crimes he’s accused of while still a minor, the Shin Bet said. Their identities were not released due to their ages.

It was not immediately clear when the suspects will be indicted.

"The Shin Bet security service sees in Israeli supporters of ISIS, who make contact with operatives of the organization and go fight in its ranks, to be a grave security threat," the agency said.

Therefore, it said, it would "use the necessary enforcement measures in order to prevent the distribution of ISIS’s ideology to Israel."

The Islamic State does not have widespread support in Israel, and the Shin Bet estimates that approximately 50 Arab citizens of Israel have traveled to Syria or Iraq to join the group in recent years -- far fewer than in some European countries with comparable Moslem populations.

Fatah official rips Israel’s bid to slash PA funding over terrorist payments
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian Prisoner Club chairman Qadura Fares vows stipends will continue despite Israeli ’piracy’.

The chairman of the Paleostinian Prisoners Club on Sunday slammed a proposed Israeli law that would slash funds to the Paleostinian Authority over salaries paid out by Ramallah to convicted forces of Evil and their families, and vowed the Paleostinians will continue the payments.
I don't know why he is fussing -- the PA has already cut payments to Israel for Gaza's electricity and to PA empolyees in Gaza who haven't done any work since 2097, so they must be rolling in dough just now.
The bill, approved earlier in the day by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation, "is a process of legitimizing the piracy of the Paleostinian people’s money," said Qadura Fares, whose organization is non-governmental but influential.

The bill would see Israel cut around NIS 1 billion ($285 million) from the annual tax revenues it collects for the Paleostinians and hands over to them -- equivalent to the amount that Ramallah pays to forces of Evil and their families -- a practice Israel and the international community have been attempting to end.

The bill is expected be brought to a preliminary vote in the plenum on Wednesday.

Fares, who is a former PA minister without a portfolio and a member of Fatah, branded the bill an attempt "to stigmatize the Paleostinian struggle with terrorism and to conflate the issues of the so-called war on terror with the Paleostinian deaders and prisoners who fought for freedom."

He said the bill "strongly contradicts international law."

He noted that they payments can be traced back to measures enacted by the Paleostinian Liberation Organization in 1966, and vowed they "will not stop."

Israel transfers about NIS 460 million ($125 million) a month, or NIS 5.4 billion ($1.5 billion) a year, to the Paleostinian Authority in tax and customs duties levied on goods destined for Paleostinian markets that transit through Israeli ports. The transfers are a key revenue source for the cash-strapped Paleostinian government. Israel has withheld payment in the past over political disputes.

The proposed legislation says that in 2016, the Paleostinian Authority paid out some NIS 1.1 billion ($303 million) in stipends and other benefits to the families of so-called "deaders" who bit the dust during attacks against Israelis and to Paleostinian prisoners serving time in Israeli jails for security offenses.

According to PA law, Paleostinian security prisoners serving time in Israeli jails and families of assailants killed while carrying attacks against Israelis are eligible to receive stipends and other benefits.

The Middle East Media Research Institute estimates that the allowances range from $364 (NIS 1,500) a month for a term of up to three years, to $3,120 (NIS 13,000) for a term of 30 years and more. There is also a monthly $78 supplement for forces of Evil from Jerusalem and a $130 supplement for Arab Israeli terrorists.

Stern’s bill represents the first time the issue has been tackled through Israeli legislation, and follows similar efforts to limit US funding to the PA.

Israel has long argued that the PA’s payments glorify terrorism, part of what it sees as a broader trend of "incitement" blamed for fueling a surge of violence last year.

The issue of PA payments to forces of Evil received heightened media coverage during US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s visit to Israel last month, during which he met with Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
The PA has paid out some NIS 4 billion -- or $1.12 billion -- over the past four years to forces of Evil and their families, a former director general of the Ministry of Strategic Affairs and ex-head of the army’s intelligence and research division told a top Knesset panel late last month.

2 more Abu Sayyaf surrender in Basilan
[SUNSTAR.PH] TWO more members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) voluntarily surrendered to the government troops in Basilan province, the military reported on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Bacala, Army’s 4th Special Forces Battalion commander, identified them as Sarid Nisal, 25, and Mohammad Nisal 23. Bacala said the two bandits surrendered on Monday, June 12.

They are followers of Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf leader Nurhasan Jamiri. He said they yielded an M-16 Armalite rifle with attached M-203 granade launcher and a Garand Rifle with ammunition.

The bandits surrendered four days after three of their companions surrendered to the troops in Basilan. Bacala identified the three as Adulla Kalitut, 35, Natim Alamin, 25, and Adzmil Alamin, 20. They surrendered on Thursday, June 8. The surrender of the Nisals on Monday have brought to 73 the total number of Abu Sayyaf bandits who surrendered in Basilan province.

Singapore Mother Arrested for Offering to Marry IS Fighter
[AnNahar] A 22-year-old Singaporean woman who was planning to go to Syria with her child and marry an Islamic State

fighter has been detained without trial, the city-state's interior ministry said Monday.

Syaikhah Izzah Zahrah Al Ansari, who worked at a community nursery, was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

"Izzah was intent on joining ISIS and was actively planning to make her way to Syria, with her young child," the ministry said in a statement, using another name for the Islamic State group.

"She supported ISIS' use of violence to establish and defend its self-declared 'caliphate', and aspired to live in it."

Izzah became radicalized from 18 after watching propaganda videos from the turban group, and had formed an extensive network of foreign contacts, including IS Death Eaters and supporters, the MHA said, some of whom had been killed in Syria or placed in durance vile

for terror-related activities.

The daughter of Koranic teachers, she believed that having a husband who died in battle would give her "elevated status" and she could easily remarry in Syria, the MHA added. Her family tried to talk her out of it but to no avail.

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore said the incident demonstrated the threat of self-radicalization is "very real".

"An individual may fall prey to false narratives and teachings on the internet and social media, such that even a real life support structure may not be able to counter them," the council said in a statement.

Singapore considers itself a prime target for bandidos bully boyz because of the anti-terror role it plays and the interior ministry has warned that the terrorism threat was at its highest in recent years.

Since 2015, 14 Singaporeans have been detained under the ISA for radicalization, which allows for detention without trial for up to two years.

The region has been on high alert in recent weeks following a takeover of Marawi in the southern Philippines by Islamist Death Eaters flying the black flags of IS.

Philippine troops raise flag as bombs fall on Islamist-held city
[DAWN] Embattled Philippine troops struggling to force out Islamist gunnies from a southern city raised the national flag for Independence Day on Monday, in a tearful ceremony dedicated to the scores killed during the conflict.

Thousands of Philippine soldiers, advised by US Special Forces, are locked in fierce combat with hundreds of Death Eaters who overran Marawi city on May 23, flying black flags of the hard boy Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) group and using up to 2,000 civilians as human shields.

As gunfire rang out and planes flew bombing raids to pummel districts of the largely-abandoned city, a crowd of soldiers and officials gathered outside a nearby government building to raise the Philippine flag.

"This is dedicated to soldiers who offered their lives to implement our mission in Marawi city," said Colonel Jose Maria Cuerpo, commander of a Philippine Army brigade fighting in Marawi.

The annual ceremony marks the anniversary of an armed revolt against Spanish colonial rule.

Fighting in the city has left 58 soldiers and police and more than 20 civilians dead, the military said, estimating that almost 200 gunnies have been killed in the festivities.

Tens of thousands have fled Marawi, which is the Catholic country's most important Moslem city, since troops unexpectedly interrupted plans by the fighters to take over Marawi in a spectacular event to show that IS had arrived in the Philippines.

President Rodrigo Duterte has said the hard boy attack was part of a wider plot by IS to establish a base in the southern region of Mindanao, and declared martial law there to quell the threat.

But the military has struggled to defeat the heavily-armed gunnies, who have used hostages and pre-existing bomb-proof tunnels to entrench their positions.

#1  When they say "Syrian Army" what they mean is "Russian and Iran army".
What is happenning under Trump's nose is that Putin and the Ayatollas are establishing their control on the Iraq/Syria border. In other words, free and convenient land bridge enabling Iran's militias and even army to freely move into Syria and to supply Hizballa with heavy weapons and position Israel into a pincers situation where Hizballa controls the Israel/Lebanon border, Iran controls the syrian side of the Golan heights and Hamas/Iran are on the southern border (classical three front situation).
If Trump does not stop the Moscow/Tehran Axis from completing this maneuver, sooner or later the IDF will have to take the initiative and initiate a preemptive strike on at least one of the fronts (my guess would be Hizballa first but could also be Hamas).
This is a critical strategic issue to Israel, which if ignored could become explosive and because of the involvement of the Russians may trigger a big conflagration in the ME dragging the US into this willy nilly.
OTOH, if this happens, it may be a great opportunity for Israel to strike strategic targets in Iran/Lebanon.
Prepare the popcorn.

Syrian rebels capture university building in Raqqa
[ARA News] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Monday made new gains in Raqqa city, amidst intensifying clashes with Islamic State’s (ISIS) extremists.

The Kurdish-led SDF seized control of the Science Collage building of Raqqa University.

“The building had been used by ISIS as a security centre. The SDF soldiers were able to expel ISIS militants from the building and seized a large deal of ammunition there,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News on Monday.

“The progress came after heavy clashes with ISIS terrorists,” he said, adding that dozens of ISIS militants were killed in the clashes.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS) activist group told ARA News that ISIS has buried many of its militants in the backyard of the Old Mosque in Raqqa city, “for being unable to reach the main cemetery due to the SDF bombardment.”

Also on Monday, clashes broke out in the neighbourhoods of Hatin in western Raqqa and Sinaa east of the city, amid attempts by the SDF to liberate both areas from ISIS.

The Kurdish-led forces have already captured three neighbourhoods in the city of Raqqa since the launch of a major operation to liberate the city a few days ago.

On Sunday, the SDF liberated the al-Romaniya neighbourhood after clashes with ISIS.

On Friday, the US-backed SDF units took control of the Sabahiya district in the western part of Raqqa city. Also on Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces imposed a siege on the ISIS-held Raqqa Grain Silos in the northern part of the city, amidst ongoing clashes.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces expelled ISIS from the Mashlab neighbourhood in the eastern part of Raqqa.

This comes after the US-backed SDF troops launched a major operation to liberate the city of Raqqa from ISIS radicals. On Tuesday, the SDF announced the official start of the operation to capture Raqqa.

Raqqa has been known as a de facto capital for the ISIS self-proclaimed Caliphate since the summer of 2014.

The Kurdish-Arab-Christian alliance of SDF has been isolating Raqqa since November 2016, when the US-backed alliance launched the so-called Euphrates Wrath Operation.

On 13 April, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched the fourth phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation against Islamic State’s extremists to clear out the northern countryside of Raqqa.

During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, which began on November 6, 2016, the SDF liberated roughly 560 km² in Northern Raqqa.

On 10 December, 2016, the SDF launched the second phase of the Euphrates Wrath, during which it captured over 2500 km² in Western Raqqa.

On 4 February, 2017, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched the third phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation, and liberated dozens of villages in Eastern Raqqa from ISIS jihadists.

The campaign is ultimately aimed at liberating the city of Raqqa from ISIS extremists.

The SDF has captured the north west corner of Raqqa and crushed the ISIS attempt to recapture the 17th division army base in the north.

The SDF has captured the Internet hacking building in the north.

The SDF drive from the east has captured 2 neighborhoods (al-Sinaa and Bitani) and has reached the edge of the old city.

Syrian regulars, Iranian militia hammer rebel positions in Daraa city
(Reuters) The Syrian army and Iran-backed militia forces have escalated attacks against a rebel-held part of the southern city of Deraa, a possible prelude to a large-scale campaign to wrest full control of the city, rebels and residents said on Monday.

The intensive raids and bombing strikes mainly pounded the southern part of Deraa, strategically located on the border with Jordan and where the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad erupted six years ago.

The Syrian army has recently intensified dropping barrel bombs, drums or cylinders packed with shrapnel, and has fired hundreds of so-called elephant rockets on Deraa’s old quarter and a former refugee camp nearby, rebels and residents said.

The army has not commented on its troop build-up in Deraa or the escalating aerial bombing. State media has long branded the rebels as foreign-backed “terrorists”.

More reinforcements from the army and its allies, the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah and Shi’ite Muslim Iraqi militias, are also being rushed to the city from several locations near the capital, Damascus.

Troops were using the Damascus-Deraa highway, a major supply route where well-fortified trenches on both sides of the road have made it more difficult for rebels to mount attacks.

“The regime has brought large columns of troops from the elite 4th Armoured Division, and also Hezbollah forces,” said Major Issam al Rayes, spokesman of the so-called Southern Front grouping of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels, who are supported by an Arab-Western coalition.

The troops being sent as reinforcements are considered to be the Syrian army’s elite division, which has the best training and equipment.

Rebels say the troop build-up and relentless aerial bombing in recent weeks pointed to a major campaign for what the FSA rebels see as a decisive battle.

“Everything indicates the regime is preparing for a large-scale military campaign in Deraa in which they plan to encircle the city and reach the Jordanian border,” Rayes said.

Adham al-Karad, the commander of the missile brigade in the FSA’s Southern Front, said: “Our surveillance shows troop carriers and heavy armor … if it continues at this same level of reinforcements, this will be very large.”

The army had stepped up its campaign to regain the Manshiya neighborhood, a strategic district that almost completely fell into rebel hands after four months of street battles.

Rebels stormed Manshiya, the last army foothold in Deraa’s rebel-held old quarter, in February to ward off any army attempt to capture a strategic crossing with Jordan.

The army’s control of the crossing, a once-thriving passenger and commercial gateway with Jordan, would sever the rebel link between the eastern and western parts of the province they control, dealing a major blow to their cause in the south.

The Syrian government’s strategic goal is to open a direct route from Damascus to the Jordanian border.

Azizollah Maleki, the police chief in Hormozgan Province, where the bad boyz were potted during a firefight with security forces, made the remarks to news hounds on Monday.

"Intelligence work and the monitoring of current news about movements by a group of armed forces of Evil in the east of Hormozgan had the issue placed on the police’s special agenda," he said.

Police forces took further operational and intelligence measures, tracking the group’s movements and identifying the places frequented by them.

They confronted the foursome in a mountainous terrain near the province’s Roudan County, Maleki said, adding that an armed conflict ensued, which resulted in the deaths of the terrorists.

The forces of Evil had four military weapons, 112 live bullets, some explosives, and a ISIS flag in their possession.

ISIS Turban dies in shooting in Hawija, Kirkuk

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) A member of the Islamic State with an Arab nationality was mysteriously assassinated at the group’s Kirkuk stronghold of Hawija, while the group expelled dozens of civilians local sources said Monday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that the militant was killed on the town’s outskirts, but did not explain how the assassination was carried out. He added that the assassination stoked already heating tensions among members in Hawija, with Arab members accusing local comrades of masterminding the killing.

Meanwhile, another source said the group seized the homes of 60 families in Hawija and forced them to move to farmlands on the town’s outskirts. The source said the militants accused the families of “disloyalty” to the group. He explained that most of the families expelled had some members executed by the Islamic State for various reasons.

“Daesh (Islamic State) is seeking to empty Hawija of families who it suspects of opposing it,” said the source.

Hawija and other neighboring areas in southwest Kirkuk have been under Islamic State control since 2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. The group executed dozens of civilians and security members there, forcing thousands to flee homes.

Three weeks ago, Alsumaria News quoted sources saying that IS had opened alternative headquarters for its so-called “Nineveh State, “Dijlah State”, “Salahuddin State” and “Diyala State” in Hawija. He said senior leaders had entered the town in armored vehicles after having fled battles with security forces in Nineveh.

2 Kaliphate Kidz die in work accident al-Mutaibija

Mutaibija (IraqiNews.com) Two members of the Islamic State’s so-called “Cubs of the Caliphate” were killed as a booby-trapped cooking pot exploded in al-Mutaibija region, on borders between Salahuddin and Diyala provinces, a local source said.

Speaking to AlSumaria News on Monday, the source said, “two members of the so-called ‘Cubs of the Caliphate’ were killed as a booby-trapped cooking pot exploded while being transferred from one of the group’s rest houses in Mutaibija to be placed on a road.”

“Several IS cubs were recently transferred from Hawija to Mutaibija to boost the group’s capabilities,” the source, who preferred anonymity said. The group, according to the source, “now depends on different methods to manufacture bombs using pots and plastic bottles in different sizes.”
