Efforts to Release Taliban Guantanamo Prisoners Amid Rise in Violence
[Tolo News] Afghan High Peace Council has recently made efforts to get some Taliban figures released from Guantanamo Bay detention facility amid a surge in Taliban attacks in the country.
Doesn't that reward the Taliban for misbehaving?
Some Afghan experts, criticising this move of the peace council, said efforts by the council could not result in peace and stability.
Clever experts.
The Taliban have doubled their attacks to impose their demands over the government, experts believe.

"The Council hopes that the ground is prepared for the release of those leaders playing a crucial role in peace in Afghanistan," said Deputy Head of High Peace Council, Mawlawi Attaullah Ludin.

A significant rise in the Taliban-led violence has caused widespread concerns among politicians.

"The Peace Council should have gone to Quetta instead of the US. The trips would not bring any outcome except a waste of time and unnecessary spending," said Sayed Ishaq Gilani, an Afghan MP.

Experts accused high-profile government officials of providing support to the Taliban.

While declining to provide names of the officials, they said the pro-Taliban support within the government system has caused the government to have a weak stance toward its neighbours and the Taliban.

But Karzai's Office denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!

Karzai Urges Death Sentence for Jalalabad Assailant
[Tolo News] President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai Wednesday called for execution of the attacker who shot to death scores of civilians trapped in a private bank in Jalalabad city on Saturday.

President Karzai's Spokesperson, Wahid Omar, called the raid in Jalalabad city "inhuman, un-Islamic and shocking".
I'd call it inhuman, typically Islamic, and shocking.
I'm not sure what's shocking about it, given the parties involved...
At a presser, Mr Omar said faceless myrmidons should not be fought in Afghanistan, emphasising that the international community should attack Death Eaters' safe havens and sanctuaries outside Afghan borders.

The statement by President's Office is made after TOLO and TOLOnews TV channels aired the footage of civilian killings by an assailant in Jalalabad branch of Kabul Bank.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior has said the assailant is a Pak citizen from Miranshah in North Wazoo. The captured bad boy said "It was enjoyable to shoot people."

The Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack.
The footage showed a thug dressed in police uniform shooting people who are stuck in the bank.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior has said the assailant is a Pak citizen from Miranshah in North Wazoo.

The captured thug said "It was enjoyable to shoot people."

The Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack.

"On behalf of, and in defence of the Afghan people, President Karzai today instructed head of the Supreme Court to sentence this criminal and terrorist to capital punishment," said Mr Omar.

Without pointing out to any specific country, Mr Omar highlighted that hard boyz should be fought outside Afghan borders.

"To fight faceless myrmidons in Kabul Bank in Jalalabad and shopping malls in Kabul no longer makes any sense until their safe havens are not rooted out," said Mr Omar.

There are powers in the region that see their interests in Afghanistan's instability.

Nearly 40 non-combatants were killed and another 80 were maimed in the recent attack in Jalalabad.

Taliban Mount Civilian Attacks
[Tolo News] Taliban have recently targeted public buildings killing scores of civilians in different cities of Afghanistan.
Making friends and influencing people in that inimitable jihadi way.
The recent attacks carried out by the Taliban claimed lives of 120 Afghan civilians including women and kiddies.

At least 40 people were killed by an assailant who raided Kabul Bank branch in eastern Jalalabad city on Saturday.

The Taliban grabbed credit for the attack in Jalalabad.

A videotape obtained by TOLOnews from the Kabul Bank surveillance camera shows that an attacker in Afghan police uniform armed with AK-47 shoots to death civilians stuck in the building.

In a recent suicide kaboom in northern Kunduz province on Monday, at least 32 non-combatants were killed.

How a Pilot Risked His Life To Spy On Libya
In April 1986, following an attack on American soldiers in a Berlin disco, President Reagan ordered the bombing of Muammar Qaddafi's terrorist camps in Libya. My duty was to fly over Libya and take photos recording the damage our F-111's had inflicted. Qaddafi had established a 'line of death,' a territorial marking across the Gulf of Sidra , swearing to shoot down any intruder that crossed the boundary. On the morning of April 15, I rocketed past the line at 2,125 mph.
Note: this is about the bombing and BDA over Libya under President Reagan's command in 1986. I am very proud of what we did back then, although if he had not picked that specific time to step out of his tent, we would not be seeing Libya tormented as it is today. Go read the whole thing at the link, now that we can finally talk (mostly) openly about such things.

#2  From the article:

I estimated that we could beat the rocket-powered missiles to the turn and stayed our course, betting our lives on the plane's performance. After several agonizingly long seconds, we made the turn and blasted toward the Mediterranean 'You might want to pull it back,' Walter suggested. It was then that I noticed I still had the throttles full forward. The plane was flying a mile every 1.6 seconds, well above our Mach 3.2 limit. ... I pulled the throttles to idle just south of Sicily , but we still overran the refueling tanker awaiting us over Gibraltar.

Thats 5760 mph - Mach 8.73. Whoa.

#3  That's 1.6 s/mi, not 1.6 mi/s. :-)

In any case, there is a story I read about Kelly Johnson being interviewed and he was asked if it could really go mach 3.5. His answer was along the lines of "Yeah, and a $hitload more."

I don't believe anyone ever really tried to get it up to full speed. The probably would have run out of room.

Those engines were the closest thing we had to a ramjet until a few years ago.

Not bad for '50s technology, eh?

Given their drive, common sense, breadth of understanding, and ability to absorb information and take it to the next level, I wonder what those engineers could do with today's technology.

#6  From the article:

One day, high above Arizona...

Har! I heard that story told in legend form. In that case, the Cessna pilot was an instructor showing his student that he could request his airspeed from ATC.

Another good one, shorn of real pilot lingo, 'cause I don't know it:

Pilot: Requesting clearance to 100,000ft.
ATC: *snort* OK, if you can get there, it's all yours.
Pilot: Roger, descending to 100,000...

Gaddafi: Barakeh Obama is friend
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi considers the US president a blessing to the Muslim world. In a speech published in London-based al-Hayat newspaper on Saturday,
It's actually dated a year ago...
Gaddafi praised Barack Obama, called him a "friend" and said there is no longer any dispute between his country and the US.
Even a broken clock is right once a day ....
... or once a year...
Speaking in the Libyan city of Sirt at an event marking the 24th anniversary of an American attack on Libya, he said, "At the time, we were the target of the American cannon, the American navy challenged us in the gulf of Sirt and attacked us all along Libya's shores. America tested Libya, and the Libyan people resisted the large country, but today, thank God, the difference is great."
What Reagan couldn't accomplish the Libyan people are trying to accomplish...
He said, "Now, ruling America is a black man from our continent, an African from Arab descent, from Muslim descent, and this is something we never imagined -- that from Reagan we would get to Barakeh Obama."
Hmm, Obean must one of those 12-hour clocks.
Gaddafi stressed that Obama's presidency is "a major historical gain" and said, "He is someone I consider a friend. He knows he is a son of Africa. Regardless of his African belonging, he is of Arab Sudanese descent, or of Muslim descent. He is a man whose policy should be supported, and he should be assisted in implementing it in any way possible, since he is now leaning towards peace."
I believe he's now timidly leaning toward Libya with no Qadaffy's in it.
He continued, "I urge all peoples to give him this chance and to support this policy, because America is a country that, when its policy is bad -- harms the world, and when it is good -- it helps the world."

The Libyan leader also expressed hopes that, "the dream that Obama has for a world free of nuclear weapons will come true. This is something that no previous American president has proposed. Obama is a man who opposes wars that previous American presidents were entangled in; he has declared that he will withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq -- something which has never been proposed before."

Despite the warm sentiments towards the American leader, he stressed, "The Arabs hate America, there is no doubt. There is not an Arab that loves America, and even the leaders who the United States considers allies or friends -- hate it. The external love is merely hypocrisy or pragmatism. The reason for this is clear -- Palestine."

In this context he said, "The Palestinians today are like the Jews of the past -- dispersed in exile and persecuted. Now the Palestinians are at a point where they deserve to have the United States on their side and not on the side of the Israelis."

He reiterated his demand to allow the millions of Palestinian refugees around the world to return to the land where, according to his vision, a nuke-free democratic state by the name of Isratine should be established.
How about Paleohell?

#1  Back in 2008 when Obama got elected, Gaddafi referred to Obama as his "brother" in the Whitehouse. He also said Obama's campaign had received financing from the Mideast muslim world. As usual, the MSM could not be bothered with any of this. He also hoped the U.S. would go from "evil to good" under Barack Hussein Obama. Clearly Gaddafi viewed BHO as a muslim. Meanwhile the islamists continued to attempt to kill Americans and other people from allied nations and anyone else who offended them while the MSM remained silent. The MSM has aided and abetted this disaster of a Presidency.

#2  How much did Gaddafi contribute to Obama's 2008 campaign?

0% can be ruled out as an answer.

Some elements of the Gaddafi regime might have information that could embarrass Obama considerably.

The US + POTUS BAMMER is truly caught in a quandry, as between fear that Radical Islam will usurp the legitimate pro-democracy issues of the "Jasmine" Protesters + politically takeover the Govts. of "Moderate" Regional Muslim States e.g. Hezbollah in Lebanon; versus the USA appearing to fail to directly support either a dedicated andor nominal? US = US-NATO/Western Ally [Mubarak + now Gaddafi] in their time of crisis. NEWS REPORTS THAT THE US MAY BE PREPARING POSSIBLE MILITARY OPTIONS FOR LIBYA MAY WORSEN US CREDIBILITY.

THE SUM OF ALL FEARS.

The Obama Administration's spineless response to Colonel Gaddafi's reign of terror
President Obama is already being outflanked by Nicolas Sarkozy, who has taken a far tougher line on Libya than his US counterpart. It is hugely embarrassing when even the French are doing more to confront a murderous dictator than the traditional leader of the free world. Frankly, President Obama makes Jimmy Carter look like General MacArthur by comparison. The US administration needs to wake up from its slumber and start showing some real leadership on the world stage in place of its existing milquetoast foreign policy.
President Sarkozy has outflanked President Obama since the day Iran's President Ahmadinejad spoke at the U.N., shortly after Obama was inaugurated. S has despised O since that day, as well.

#2  Sorry about this but I hit the send key before I finished my rant.

WHY did Obama call for Mubarak, who may be our only true ally other than Israel, to step down when he is sitting by tut tutting a similar situation with a known terrorist sponsor and international thug who spews anti american gibberish and sends millions in "aid" to the PLFP and other friends of terrorism?

It seems very conflicted to tell an ally to step down and then stand by with your thumb up your butt when the same phenomenon occurs with a known enemy.

Revolution protection council stirs debate in Tunisia
[Maghrebia] A heated debate is raging in Tunisia over the creation of a special body to monitor the current government.

A group of 28 parties and organisations of various political hues on February 15th called for the establishment of the National Council for the Protection of the Revolution, "in dedication to the principles of the revolution, so as to counter all attempts to abort the revolution and shove the country into a state of vacuum".

The proposed body seeks to "honour those who bit the dust" and "uphold the aspirations" of the Tunisian people. Among the main pillars of the body are the Ennahda Movement, the January 14th Front and the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT).

It will "give the new government its legitimacy", said Democratic Forum for Labour and Liberties (FDTL) member Khalil Zaouia.

"At present, the government is weak and its legitimacy is fragile," added Zaouia, whose group signed the Council founding statement. "We need to set up some supervising council to monitor decrees issued by the government, decrees that can affect democracy in the future."

The interim government has been accused of trying to undermine the revolution by appointing officials from the former Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD) in decision-making positions, delaying constitutional reform, refraining from terminating the state security body and failing to abolish freedom-curbing laws.

In his February 17th televised address, Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi maintained that "among the most important tasks of the transitional government is arranging free, transparent elections with credibility to be conducted under international supervision".

"Laws must be amended in a manner that agrees with the necessities and requirements of building democracy," he said.

The watchdog body plans on submitting a request to interim president Foued Mebazaa to issue a decree to endorse its establishment.

In his turn, National Development Minister Ahmed Najib Chebbi on February 15th expressed his astonishment at a council that refuses to recognise the present government as legitimate and yet asks the president to endorse its existence.

"Who granted that council legitimacy to appoint itself as a guardian of the revolution?" he wondered.

"Legitimising that council through a presidential decree will only create duality of authority that can lead up to a political crisis which might hinder democratic transition," Higher Education Minister and Ettajdid Movement leader Ahmed Brahim concurred.

Based on its statement, the institution aims to have decision-making powers, the capacity to formulate and approve the legislations related to the transitional government, annul laws contrary to freedoms and monitor the performance of the caretaker government. It would also select officials for superior posts and reconsider the committees formed in terms of their powers and make-up. Any committee propositions would be automatically referred to the Council for approval.

The initiative touched off strong reactions among policy-makers and ordinary citizens alike.

Obama faces pressure to intervene in Libya
[Ennahar] Pressure mounted on the White House on Tuesday to intervene to stop Muammar Qadaffy's bloody crackdown on democracy protests as a politician close to President Barack B.O. Obama urged oil firms to halt work in Libya.

The United States faced calls to impose sanctions but also to take direct action such as bombing Libyan airfields and imposing no-fly zones -- military steps that most analysts consider unlikely. Some critics questioned Obama's silence on the violence in which hundreds of Libyans have died.

U.S. officials called for an end to the violence but seemed to rule out any unilateral action, stressing the United States was working with other countries on a way forward.

Senator John I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
... the Senate's current foreign policy expert, filling the empty wingtips of Joe Biden...
, the influential chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, urged the White House to consider reimposing tough sanctions on Libya.

"World leaders must together put Colonel Qadaffy on notice that his cowardly actions will have consequences," Kerry said.

The White House said it was studying Kerry's proposal to reimpose sanctions that were lifted by the Bush administration but, for now, was focused on ending the bloodshed, which sent U.S. oil prices to near 2-1/2-year highs.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Kerry's Republican counterpart in the House of Representatives, said the United States and others "should impose economic sanctions, including freezing assets of the regime and imposing a ban on travel."

Obama did not mention Libya when he spoke about small business at a university in Ohio -- in contrast to his German counterpart Angela Merkel, who said she would back sanctions if Qadaffy did not halt the violence.

Obama's administration has been struggling to keep up with the wave of popular uprisings unfolding across the Middle East and North Africa. Each country has presented its own challenges for Washington, which has seen its decades-old Middle East policy upended in a matter of weeks.

Obama spoke out about violence against protesters in Tunisia, Egypt and Bahrain but some analysts saw his silence on Libya as a deliberate tactic.

"Getting into a spitting match with Qadaffy would not be such a smart idea," said Daniel Serwer of Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. "This guy obviously enjoys the attention so ignoring him may have some virtue."

LIMITED OPTIONS
U.S. options to influence events in Libya are limited, unlike in Egypt and Bahrain where Washington was able to bring pressure to bear as a long-time ally and benefactor. U.S. foreign aid to Libya was less than $1 million in 2010.

Military action does not appear to be on the table, although the United States has not shied from the use of force against Qadaffy in the past. It bombed Tripoli and Libya's second city, Benghazi, in 1986 in retaliation for an attack on a West Berlin disco used by U.S. military personnel.

"There is absolutely no talk of military intervention," said Daniel Byman of the Brookings Institution in Washington. "We don't know the opposition and it is not clear that they would be on our side.

#5  The ship sailed on doing anything about Qadaffi a long time ago.

Perhaps Reagan and Bush43 knew something when they didn't take Qadaffi out when they had the chance.

I think Qadaffi is a dangerous megomaniac of the worst and most toxic narcissistic forms but like Tito he's kept a lid on some really nasty irrational groups lurking about. When a strong man leaves, the groups come out of their burrows and the resulting settling of old feuds leads to vast amounts of blood shed. We are still trying to sort out the power vacuum that Tito left behind in the dear departed Yugoslavia.
I'm afraid that if this revolt takes hold in China and KSA, all hell will break loose economically.
Not to sound like an alarmist but we could be fighting at the gates of Vienna again very soon. It's time for us to develop some spine and some cajones on terrorism.
The leftists in the Democratic party fought Bush43 to a standstill on the GWOT and now its become an act of faith to treat terrorism as a non issue compared to gay rights, union pensions and government worker unions.

Arabia
The return of the reformist King
[Asharq al-Aswat] King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz issued a series of royal decrees on Wednesday which aim to improve the social welfare of Saudi citizens, estimated to be worth around 127 billion Saudi Riyals [SR] or 34 billion dollars, upon his return to Soddy Arabia after three months abroad for medical treatment.

The action plan, which includes funding to offset high inflation, to help young unemployed people and support families to obtain affordable housing, was made as popular protests over poverty, corruption and repression hit many Arab countries.

The Saudi monarch pledged to provide an additional 40 billion SR to the Soddy Arabian Real Estate Development Fund, to enable it to meet greater demands for housing loans. He also promised to increase the capital of the Saudi Credit and Saving Bank by 20 billion SR, from 10 billion SR to 30 billion SR, which would allow this bank greater credit to provide Saudi citizens with loans.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz also allocated an additional 1.2 billion SR to provide social care and development to Saudi citizens, as well as allocating 1 billion SR to increase the number of family members benefiting from social insurance from 8 to 15 family members.

The Saudi monarch also increased the country's annual charitable donations by 50 percent to 450 million SR per year as well as allocating 15 billion SR to support the General Housing Authority, in addition to 3.5 billion SR to help the poor repair their houses and pay utilities.

In addition to this, King Abdullah also pledged to allocate 1.2 billion SR for vocational training courses for women,
Teach them to repair air conditioners, and your unemployment problems will be solved.
as well as 476 million SR to support poor students. The King of the Arabians also urged universities to allocate a percentage of seats to students from poorer backgrounds, and also announced the extension of the King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship Program for an additional five years, asserting that Saudi students currently studying abroad would be eligible for this, based upon certain conditions.

As part of efforts to combat unemployment, King Abdullah also set-up a high level ministerial committee to find solutions with regards to employing the growing number of graduates in the public and private sector. This committee is set to reveal its findings within four months. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques also pledged to allocate a portion of the financial resources of the Human Resource Development Fund to provide assistance to unemployed youth.

The Saudi monarch also ordered the expansion of a number of governmental departments, including the creation of an additional 300 jobs for the General Auditing bureau, an additional 300 jobs for the Control and Investigation Board, an additional 300 jobs for the Saudi Commission for Investigation and Prosecution, and the creational of an additional 300 jobs for the Royal Court and the Special Secretariat of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

The Saudi monarch also decreed a 15 percent pay-rise of all Saudi civil servants, and the Supreme Economic Council has been asked to take the necessary step to ensure payment within three months.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz issued this wide-ranging set of royal decrees upon his return to Soddy Arabia after three months abroad. The King's airplane was met by hundreds of men in white robes who performed a traditional Bedouin sword dance on special carpets laid out at Riyadh airport.

State television presenters wore scarves in the colours of the Saudi flag in coverage termed "the joy of a nation" to mark the king's return, and Saturday has been declared a public holiday to mark the King's safe return home.

King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz travelled to the United States in November for surgery on a herniated disk which caused blood accumulation around the spine. He has been recuperating in Morocco for the past four weeks.

Soddy Arabia, a member of the G20, outlined spending of 580 billion riyals for 2011, its third straight record budget and the king said last month expenditures are going to rise in the coming years.

Spain to ask Venezuela to extradite two ETA suspects
[El Universal] The Spanish Judiciary is to prosecute José Lorenzo Ayestaran and José Ignacio Olaskoaga, two members of the Basque separatist group ETA, and will ask for their extradition from France and Venezuela, after several former guerrilla members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) said that they trained them in the use of explosives, in the Venezuelan forest.

Legal sources reported that Judge Eloy Velasco, of the Spanish National Court, who investigates an alleged alliance between the Basque armed group ETA and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), plans to prosecute in March the two terrorists and request their arrest and handover, Efe reported.

Velasco will urge Venezuelan authorities to arrest and extradite ETA suspect José Ignacio Olaskoaga.

Russia warns fanatics may rule Arab world
[The Nation (Nairobi)] Russia on Tuesday sounded the alarm over the unrest sweeping the Middle East, saying the revolts risked bringing Islamist fanatics to power and breaking up Arab states into "little pieces".

Striking a strong note of discord with Western sympathy for the protestors demonstrating against dictatorial regimes across the Arab world, President Dmitry Medvedev warned that the events could also impact Russia itself.

When the French are out there making pronouncements about the threat present in the Middle East and then you have the real tough guys with some of the best intell in the world saying that this current wave of demonstrations is a clear threat to western civilization, it is time to sit up and listen.

So Barack ole buddy, its time to put down the law suits on gays in the military and stop ramble rousing with the lefties in Wisconsin and FREAKING DO SOMETHING about terrorism.

Memo to DOJ: get out of the terrorism business, it is not a law enforcement issue and you don't seem to have the stomach for the kinds of dirty work necessary to keep a lid on that kind of behavior. I am afraid the US stance on all of these riots etc., inspite of how much I loathe and dispise Saleh and Qadaffi, are symptomatic of a nasty strain of fanaticism, has let the djinni out of the bottle on this current wave of protest.

China-Japan-Koreas
'US, S Korea war games provoke war'
North Korea has strongly criticized an upcoming military drill by the United States and South Korea, saying the 'mad' move increased the likelihood that the Norks will froth at the mouth and utter blood-curdling threats, perhaps doing something really stoopid but stopping short of instigating an actual war which would result in abrupt termination of the Kim dynasty followed by the South's reunification with its poor relatives..

The exercises "prove South Korean warmongers are going crazier in provoking a war regardless of the people's desire for dialogue and peace," Pyongyang's government newspaper Minju Joson said on Wednesday.

"With South Korean warmongers' reckless war provocations, the inter-Korean relationship is worsening and the danger of war is increasing day by day," it said.

The newspaper added that the US-South Korea next joint military drill is due to take place despite Pyongyang's calls for dialogue.

The annual Key Resolve/Foal Eagle drill, starting next Monday and ending on March 10, will take place as tensions are still high in the Korean Peninsula after last year's deadly clash between the South and North Korean forces along the Koreas' disputed sea borders.

The fighting left four South Koreans, including two civilians, dead. Each side blames the other for initiating the clash.

Last year, the United States and South Korea conducted several massive joint sea and air drills in waters east of the peninsula.

Inter-Korean military talks aimed at easing tensions broke down this month.

Europe
Libya violence must be punished: EU president
[Bangla Daily Star] European Union President Herman Van Rompuy yesterday condemned the 'horrible' violence by Libyan forces against protestors, insisting the crimes could "not to remain without consequences."
Whoa! Strong letter to follow, eh?
"I particularly abhor the violence that is being committed against people who stand for freedom and justice in Libya," he said during a visit to Prague. "I have seen horrible crimes that are unacceptable and must not remain without consequences. I condemn the violence, aggression and intimidation against demonstrators in Libya, and call for an immediate end to the use of force," he added.
"What the consequences might be will of course remain open. We wouldn't want to commit ourselves..."
Libya's government has said 300 people including 111 soldiers have been killed in protests against Moamer Qadaffy's rule, which erupted on February 15 after similar uprisings toppled the rulers of neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt.
"We are indignant today. Six months from now we will be mildly irked. A year from now we'll be back to arguing over the quality of figs."
Earlier yesterday, French President Nicolas Sarkozy called for the EU to adopt "swift and concrete sanctions" and suspend economic and financial relations with Libya, echoing proposals from other EU countries earlier this week.
Ah, yes. Sanctions. That way the kiddies can come out in the streets to protest against them.
Van Rompuy said decisions on the future of the countries experiencing the Arab revolts must be made by their citizens, but added the EU's responsibility was "to help" in what he termed a "historic change."

TSA unwelcome at SeaTac restaurant
Fed up with what he views as crappy treatment from the TSA, the owner of a restaurant near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has decided to put all TSA agents on his No-Eat List.

"We have posted signs on our doors basically saying that they aren't allowed to come into our business," one employee tells travel journalist Christopher Elliott. "We have the right to refuse service to anyone."

She says that whenever a TSA agent attempts to dine at the restaurant, "we turn our backs and completely ignore them, and tell them to leave... Their kind aren't welcomed in our establishment."

The restaurant claims that 90% of its patrons are in agreement with their stance and that the local police have actually helped escort TSA workers of the premises.

"Until TSA agents start treating us with the respect and dignity that we deserve, then things will change for them in the private sector," says the employee.

India-Pakistan
AP:Pakistan's intelligence ready to split with CIA
Pakistan's intelligence ready to split with CIA
That's the real headline. One wonders where they found Pakistan's intelligence. I Had never seen any evidence that it had any.
By KATHY GANNON and ADAM GOLDMAN, Associated Press
Credit where credit is due. These are the geniuses behind this story.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan's ISI spy agency is ready to split with the CIA because of frustration over what it calls heavy-handed pressure and its anger over what it believes is a covert U.S. operation involving hundreds of contract spies, according to an internal document obtained by The Associated Press and interviews with U.S. and Pakistani officials.
The heavy handed CIA? Perhaps the offending officers should be sent to the State Department Charm Class for Cookie Pushing and Pouring Tea.
Such a move could seriously damage the U.S war effort in Afghanistan, limit a program targeting al-Qaida insurgents along the Pakistan frontier, and restrict Washington's access to information in the nuclear-armed country.
How could it damage the war effort as the ISI has been actively abetting the Taliban, it's own spawn.
According to a statement drafted by the ISI, supported by interviews with officials, an already-fragile relationship between the two agencies collapsed following the shooting death of two Pakistanis by Raymond Davis, a U.S. contracted spy who is in jail in Pakistan facing possible multiple murder charges.
rtwt for more revelations like:
The statement accused the CIA of using pressure tactics to free Davis.

NATO and U.S. operations in Afghanistan could be adversely effected by a split between the ISI and the CIA.
It's time for Barry to follow through on his threat to invade Pakistan.

Fatah calls for boycott of US after UNSC veto
[Jerusalem Post Front Page] The Paleostinians on Wednesday stepped up their protest against the US following last Friday's veto against an anti-settleemnt resolution at the UN Security Council by calling for a boycott of the US.

At the request of Fatah, several Paleostinian local councils in the Jerusalem area announced that they would boycott the US in protest against the veto.

The boycott includes US government officials and American journalists.

Paleostinian Authority and Fatah officials have also called for a "day of rage™" against the US and President Barack B.O. Obama on Friday.

On Tuesday, Fatah supporters staged a demonstration in east Jerusalem in protest against the US veto. Similar demonstrations have also taken place in a number of Paleostinians cities, where Fatah supporters rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud denouncing Obama as a "despicable" man.

The local councils said that they would boycott American US aid groups and the US Consulate-General in Jerusalem.

Hatem Abdel Kader, a senior Fatah official and former PA Minister for Jerusalem Affairs, told The Jerusalem Post that he has called on Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and other Paleostinian factions to join the anti-US boycott.

Abdel Kader said that the protests would continue until the US Administration changes its position regarding the Paleostinians. He also demanded that Obama publicly apologize to the Paleostinians for voting against the anti-settlement resolution.

PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad announced that he would be prepared to give up US aid that is dependent on political conditions.
Heh. Of course he will...
He said that in 2010, the US gave the PA $223 million in financial aid to cover its deficit of $1.145 billion.

He said that this did not include US aid to UNRWA.
Ah...the loophole.

Southeast Asia
Thailand's forgotten war
It was five years before Thailand admitted it had a separatist movement on its hands—a well-structured organization consisting of five related groups operating across four provinces. Identifying the leaders proved tricky, although the National Revolutionary Front-Coordinate (BRN-C) can be traced back to the 1960s, and has held the highest profile among southern separatist movements.

There has also been evidence of links with al-Qaeda and regional terrorist outfits like Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) (although this group is currently in decline). As an example, a series of interviews thought to have been granted by the self-described head of al-Qaeda in Southeast Asia, ‘Abu Ubaidah’, talkative until last year but who has since gone quiet.

‘What’s happening in Pattani isn’t an internal conflict, some (fighters) come from the neighbouring country, some come from far away, many thousands of miles,’ he stated, while encouraging Muslims in Malaysia and Indonesia to join his jihad.

He also said, through a series of Malaysia-based blogs, that the conflict has changed since 2004, when the struggle was based more on nationalistic assertions. Killings that year at the Kerisik Mosque, where over 100 died, and at Tak Bai where at least 85 were killed, had transformed the rebellion.

‘Now they fight fully and only for Allah,’ Abu said.

Officials say the first of the five groups under the BRN-C consists of Islamic leaders and teachers. The second group works at the grassroots by occupying administrative positions. A third group is responsible for funding and has found allies among influential local business leaders, according to assistant national police chief Abdul Saengsingkaew.

The Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK), a small guerrilla combat unit, makes up the fourth group. There are an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 RKK troops in the south.

Finally, there is the Permudor, a fifth column of young sympathizers who watch official movements, obstruct police wherever possible, and support RKK fighters. This rabble of teenagers is meant to graduate into the ranks of the RKK over the coming years.

In opposition, the Thai Army has an ambitious plan aimed at recruiting heavily from the southern provincial troops, with these forces expected eventually to be used to quell dissent and resolve issues among the predominantly Malay Muslims.

They are backed by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who has promised to find a solution by establishing a permanent administrative office, a special economic development zone, and through co-operation with Muslim countries.

Thai army won't raise southern insurgency with OIC
Thailand's army will not allow southern jihadis insurgents to pressure it into raising the issue of the southern jihad unrest with the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha on Wednesday.
"If we acknowledge the terrorists, they've won." Way to outsmart them, General.
"We all know that there have been many violent incidents [in the far south], but we will not fall into the trap of dealing with reality by discussing the southern security issue at the next OIC meeting.

"The army will do its best to address the problem by using the country's own laws," Gen Prayuth said before heading to restive southern Thailand.

He said he will instruct security forces to be more stringent, use more proactive measures and get more cooperation from the public.
You're a regular P.C. Clausewitz, aren't you, General?
More than 90 per cent of the people in the south have been cooperating with authorities, but the rest were still afraid, Prayuth said.

"There is no one clear group [responsible for the violence] but there are many groups of people breaking the law, especially drug problems," he said.

Gen Prayuth said police had arrested a group of people suspected of involvement in the bombing in Yala on Monday, Feb 21, which killed a woman and injured 17 other people, thanks to footage from a security camera.

Authorities still want to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.

"I would like the responsible ministry to install more CCTVs in the area," he said further.

Assad: Arab leaders must tune in to peoples wants
[Ma'an] Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad told a delegation of visiting US senators on Tuesday that Arab leaders should tune in to their people's needs, state-run SANA news agency reported.

As anti-regime revolts rock several Arab nations, Assad said it is necessary "to better understand the will of the people and to carry out policies that reflect" their demands, SANA reported.

In a meeting with a delegation of Republican senators led by Richard Shelby, Assad also called on the United States to "review its role in the grinding of the peace processor through serious action for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East."

Robert Ford, the new US ambassador to Damascus who arrived in Syria mid-January, also attended the meeting, the agency said.

Ford's appointment came almost six years after Washington withdrew ambassador Margaret Scobey from Damascus in the wake of the February 2005 liquidation of Lebanese ex-premier Rafiq Hariri in Beirut.

The attack was widely blamed on Syria but Damascus has always denied the allegations.

#1  Note the difference between "needs" in the quote and "wants" in the headline.

Food is a need and the Koran allows that. Freedom is a want and that is definitely verboten.

Ahmadinejad slams Qaddafi, sees Mideast unrest engulfing world
[Arab News] Iran's president on Wednesday denounced Libya's use of violence against demonstrators and said he is certain the wave of unrest in the Middle East will spread worldwide, bringing an end to governments he accused of oppressing and humiliating people.
But he doesn't think they're coming to the land of the Medes & the Persians...
Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad, whose own country resorted to violence to disperse an opposition rally earlier this month, said Libyan ruler Muammar Qadaffy's use of force against protesters is "grotesque." Iran's hard-line leaders have sought to claim some credit for the uprisings in Arab nations, saying it is evidence that its 1979 Islamic theocracy, which ousted the US-backed shah, is being replayed.

The embattled movement calling for social and political reforms in Iran has labeled that view hypocritical -- and to prove it they tried to stage their own rallies in solidarity with the anti-government protests in Egypt last week. Clashes between security forces and demonstrators left at least two people dead and dozens injured.

"The world is on the verge of big developments. Changes will be forthcoming and will engulf the whole world from Asia to Africa and from Europe to North America," Ahmadinejad told a news conference Wednesday.

Ahmadinejad said the world was in need of a just system of rule that "puts an end to oppression, occupation and humiliation of people." "It's a wave that's coming," he said.

Even while denying his own opponents the right to demonstrate, the president urged Qadaffy to heed his peoples' demands. He sharply criticized Libya's leaders for their use of force.

"This is very grotesque. It is unimaginable that there is someone who kills and bombards his own people. I strongly advise them to let nations have their say and meet their nations' demands if they claim to be the officials of those nations," Ahmadinejad said.

"Of course anyone who does not heed the demands of his own nation will have a clear fate," he added.

Iranian police and paramilitary groups brutally put down protests on their own streets after Ahmadinejad's disputed re-election in 2009. The opposition claims the vote was rigged and hundreds of thousands of protesters poured into the streets, posing the most serious challenge to Iran's ruling system since the 1979 revolution.

The opposition says more than 80 demonstrators were killed in the crackdown. The government puts the number of confirmed deaths at 30.

The opposition has compared the uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and elsewhere to its own campaign for change.

Mir Hossein Mousavi, who claims to have been the real victor in the 2009 vote, said last month that Iran's protest movement was the starting point and that all popular protests in the Middle East aimed at ending the "oppression of the rulers." Mousavi and Iran's other senior opposition leader, Mahdi Karroubi, have been under house arrest since earlier this month after they called their supporters to attend the Feb. 14 rally.

Security forces also raided Karroubi's house, locking him and his wife in separate rooms and confiscating books and documents, according to Karroubi's website.

Orange County Muslims sue FBI for violating First Amendment
Civil rights activists on Wednesday said they have sued the FBI for allegedly violating the First Amendment by spying on Orange County Muslims inside mosques. The case focuses on the activities of a paid informant.

26-year-old Ali Malek is a plaintiff in the lawsuit. He recalled his first encounter with Craig Monteilh.

"I first met Monteilh when he testified to his faith in front of roughly 1,000 people at the mosque in Irvine," Malek said. "It was a ceremony in which you become a Muslim."

Malek said his imam asked him to teach Monteilh about Islam, but he said Monteilh had other interests.

"Constantly he would ask me about jihad and what I thought about it," Malek said. "My reaction initially was, he is a new Muslim, he just became Muslim, perhaps has some misconstrued ideas and perceptions of the religion and I was more than happy to clarify those misconceptions."

Monteilh continued his questions about jihad and started showing up at Malek's gym.

"I thought he was weird and so I just wanted to keep my distance," Malek said. "And I wanted to give it some time to see how the situation developed. And then when the case came out, all the pieces of the puzzle came together."

It turned out that Monteilh was working for the FBI. He had spied on Orange County mosques for the FBI over a year from 2006 to 2007, recording conversations with a device on his key ring and a camera hidden within a shirt button.

"I can not conceive of any, any legitimate purpose the government would have to send an informant into our mosques, to gather indiscriminately information, destroying the sanctity of our sacred space," said CAIR spokesman Ameena Mirza Qazi.

In their class action lawsuit, CAIR and the ACLU accuse the FBI of targeting Muslims based on their religion.

Peter Bibring, of the ACLU, said the FBI is retreating from restrictions Congress placed on it in the 1970s.

"Over the past 10 years, we've seen the FBI steadily rolling back those protections, increasing their ability to initiate investigations without any indication of criminal activity," Bibring said. He claims that Muslims are a favorite post-Sept. 11 target.

Imam Yassir Fazaga is with a therapist associated with the Orange County Islamic Foundation. He has seen his clients become increasingly paranoid about personal conversations with him at a mosque.

"I can no longer discuss this with them at the mosque," Fazaga said. "From now on I have to meet my clients in the park. I have to meet with them somewhere else where they would feel more comfortable than at the mosque."

Malik, now an administrator for a San Francisco non-profit organization, said he has become more suspicious as well.

"I feel that at times I am being followed. I definitely feel that all my phone calls are tapped. I feel that my emails are filtered and tapped. I feel like I can't have a loving conversation with my wife.

"My wife and I both feel that way. We feel like we can't even keep the phone in the room on and have a loving conversation without assuming the FBI is monitoring that conversation. I feel like there's probably FBI in this room right now.", he said.

The class-action suit seeks to prevent the FBI from indiscriminately targeting Muslims and to make the agency to destroy all evidence collected that way. The three plaintiffs named seek damages for emotional duress as well.

A short, simple question for these people: What are you hiding?

#2  It seems like you ought to at least believe in the First Amendment in order to bring a First Amendment lawsuit to the courts. Tell em to take their complaint to a Sharia court in some third world dictator run $hit hole.
