[CONSERVATIVETRIBUNE] Two high-profile illegal immigrants colonists who attained a degree of fame through their activism have been detained and/or deported by the Trump administration after receiving repeated stays in the past, The Daily Caller has reported. Oh, come now! If they're "famous" then the law doesn't apply to them does it?
Ravidath Ragbir and Jean Montrevil, both prominent figures within the pro-illegal immigration group New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, were detained and deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement after years of being allowed to stay in the country at the discretion of federal officials ‐ in spite of the fact that both had been convicted of serious crimes. I mean, where would we be if the laws were applied the same way to everybody?
According to the New York Daily News, Ragbir was detained by ICE on Jan. 11 and informed that that his reprieve from deportation would not be extended further.
Ragbir, executive director of New Sanctuary, was checking in at the ICE office in New York City when he was detained. While Ragbir had immigrated to the United States legally back in 1991 from Trinidad and Tobago, he was convicted of wire fraud in 2000, according to The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... Ragbir received a deportation order in 2006, but in 2011 ICE officials in New York City gave him a reprieve of deportation. That reprieve was extended last April, but ICE officials informed Ragbir that reprieve would not be extended further. A judge will now decide his fate.
One week later, Haitian national Jean Montrevil ‐ a co-founder of New Sanctuary ‐ was deported after being taken into custody in early January. Montrevil, who had entered the United States in 1986, had served time on a drug possession charge and was in the process of appealing a deportation order.
According to The Intercept, Montrevil’s lawyer said his client "believed that he had reached an understanding with ICE officials."
The general consensus among members of the activist community was that these arrests were targeted acts.
"It seems really clear to us that this is an escalation of retaliation, not just against individual rights leaders, but against the right of the movement to exist," Mary Small, policy director for immigrant rights activist group Detention Watch Network, told The New York Times.

While it was perhaps a sign that ICE feels emboldened to go after activists as well as everyday illegal immigrants colonists and those with deportation orders, this hardly seems to be "retaliation" or "escalation." If it is, it is only in the sense that the government has refused to enforce deportation orders, which ‐ at least to some activists ‐ ought to be totally meaningless.

[DAWN] A Saudi court on Thursday issued harsh jail terms against two human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... defenders despite reforms touted by the kingdom's crown prince, Amnesia Amnesty International said.
The court in Riyadh sentenced Mohammad al-Otaibi and Abdullah al-Attawi to 14 and seven years imprisonment, respectively, the rights group said.
"The harsh sentencing... confirms our fears that the new leadership of [Crown Prince] Mohammed bin Salman ...Crown Prince of Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. "The crackdown on members of the human rights community has continued unabated, with almost all the country's most prominent human rights defenders now behind bars," she said.
Otaibi and Attawi were charged with participating in setting up an organization and announcing it before securing an authorisation. They were also accused of dividing national unity, spreading chaos and inciting public opinion by publishing statements harmful to the kingdom's image and its judicial and security agencies, Amnesty said.
Otaibi, 49, fled to neighbouring Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... in March last year and was extradited to the kingdom two months later. He co-founded the Union for Human Rights in Riyadh in 2013 and authorities ordered it shut after about one month, but he continued his work.

The cell attacked Barcelona’s La Rambla and a beachside town, killing 16 people in August.
Only flawed bomb construction prevented a deadlier attack. The hideout blew up as the cell was assembling explosives.
According to the report, based on interviews with Sherlocks and court documents, members of the cell traveled to Gay Paree before the attack, for reasons Sherlocks have yet to determine. There, they bought a camera and filmed the Eiffel Tower.

Earlier this week, Brandenburg state police reported that two male Syrian teenagers were nabbed Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw! under the suspicion of injuring a German teenager in the face with a knife.
The 16-year-old sustained non life-threatening injuries in what started as an altercation between Syrian and German school acquaintances near a tram station.
The incident happened just days after a group of three Syrian asylum seekers, aged 14, 15 and 17 years old, attacked a man and his wife outside a shopping centre, according to a police statement. The 15-year-old was handed a "negative residency permit" by authorities, effectively ordering him and his father to leave the city.

The 16-year-old sustained non life-threatening injuries in what started as an altercation between Syrian and German school acquaintances near a tram station.
The Syrian pushed the German student against a standing tram wagon. He sliced the student's cheek the cut being centimeters away fro the carotid artery. In addition to the wound to his face the German sustained a defensive to his and and a stabbing wound to his thigh.
The altercation started when German classmates of a girl who'd been sexually attacked, robbed and threatened with death by one of the Syrians confronted these Syrians.

[AA.TR] Ottoman Turkish Presidential front man Ibrahim Kalin on Thursday asserted that "Moslems are shown as 'the greatest threat' every day."
Kalin's remarks came during a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina's capital Sarajevo, where he gave a lecture entitled "Islam-West Relations in the 21st Century" at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Sarajevo.
Kalin addressed what he saw as the general patterns of perception about Islam and Moslems.
"When a Moslem person produces something beautiful, it must have been taken from another place, and according to their view, Moslems do not have their own intelligence, capacity, and this work has been taken from Christian art, Jewish art, African art or Indian art.
This is a wrong perception and pattern of thinking. The Moslem countries are not the richest countries in the world. These countries do not have the biggest armies in the world. They do not produce weapons of mass destruction. The Moslem countries do not have the most advanced military technology but somehow, Moslems are represented every day as the greatest threat," said Kalin.
Kalin said Western nations were mostly responsible for this characterization.
"They have the largest armies in the world, they control the world economy, there are weapons of mass destruction, atomic bombs and chemical weapons, that is the difference between perspective and reality," said Kalin.

[AA.TR] The United States on Thursday rejected Pakistain’s claim that American forces were behind a reported dronezap in northwestern Kurram agency tribal region near Afghanistan border, which killed two suspected hard boyz on Jan. 24.
The U.S. Embassy Islamabad spokesperson, Rick Sinelsine, told local broadcaster Dawn News: "Pakistain’s claim that the U.S. forces have struck an Afghan refugee camp in Kurram agency is false."
Sinelsine, however, did not elaborate if there was any dronezap in the region on that day.
Pakistain insists the dronezap took place in Kurram agency ‐ one of the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions in Pakistain.
"The dronezap on Jan. 24 in Spintal, Hangu district ... Hangu is famous for its greenery, hills, beauty and water. Most of the people of this area are Bangash & Orakzai Pashtuns. Part of the Bangash are Shia. The Orakzai and the Sunni Bangash are determined to kill them... , was on individual target who had morphed into Afghan refugees and not any organized terrorist sanctuary, which have been eliminated," a statement from the Pak military’s mouthpiece -- Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) -- said on Thursday.
It added that "Pakistain’s brotherly hospitality to peaceful Afghan refugees must not be exploited by the terrorists."
Islamabad already appears to be reluctant to increase the deadline for return of Afghan refugees despite requests from refugees themselves. And rights groups, which view the security situation in the war-ravaged country as non-conducive for the repatriation of over 2.5 million documented and undocumented refugees.

[DAWN] The interior ministry was unable to brief the Senate on Thursday on questions seeking information about the detention and trial of former Tehrik-e-Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Pakistain (TTP) spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan ...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, then the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency... , and the nature of cases against him.
In a written response, following a question raised by PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar asking if "Ehsan was under trial", the ministry said they had no information regarding this.
"Will the case of former TTP spokesperson be sent to a military court," Babar had asked.
The ministry said it had no clue pertaining to Ehsanullah Ehsan's trial, adding that the issue had been taken up with the civil intelligence agencies but they said "they weren't looking into the matter".
The interior ministry, however, said the case of Ehsan, who is reportedly in the custody of security agencies, would be put forward before a special committee as per the recommendations of the home department. "The case will be sent to a military court if the committee gives approval."

According to the local officials, the US unmanned aerial vehicles carried out Arclight airstrikes on a compound of the Haqqani terrorist network in North Waziristan, leaving at least three dead.
The airstrike was reportedly carried out in the vicinity of Speen Thal Dapa Mamozai in Orakzai Agency ... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers... .

[GEO.TV] Pakistain Army Spokesperson Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said on Thursday that the January 24 dronezap near the tribal areas targetted an individual who had mixed with Afghan refugees.
In a tweet, the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations stated that the strike in Spin Thall, Hangu District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was not on any organised terrorists' sanctuary.
"Out of total 54 Afghan Refugees Camps/complexes in Pakistain, 43 are in KP with overlap in FATA," said a blurb shared by ISPR.
It said that the incident validates Pakistain’s stance that the remaining snuffies easily morph into Afghan refugees' camps/complexes.
"Thus their early and dignified return to Afghanistan is essential. Pakistain’s brotherly hospitality to peaceful Afghan Refugees must not be exploited by the terrorists," the blurb stated.
Earlier today, Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that Pakistain sticks to its stance that the recent US dronezap targeted an Afghan refugee camp near Kurram Agency ...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora... He was likely responding to a statement by the US Embassy earlier in the day which denied Pakistain's claim that the dronezap struck an Afghan refugee camp.
According to the embassy's spokesperson, "The claim in an MFA [Ministry of Foreign Affairs] statement yesterday that US forces struck an Afghan refugee camp in Kurram Agency yesterday is false."
Pakistain had on Wednesday condemned the dronezap conducted by coalition forces near Kurram Agency and called the unilateral action detrimental to the spirit of cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism.
The Foreign Ministry had stated that the strike had targeted an Afghan refugee camp.
According to political administration sources in the area, two people including a commander of the Haqqani Network were killed in the dronezap close to the Orakzai and Kurram Agency border.

[IraqiNews] The ceasefire truce agreed between Iraqi forces and Kurdish Peshmerga troops remains prone to collapsing, a senior Peshmerga commander was quoted saying on Thursday.
Sirwan Barzani, a commander of the Makhmur zone in Peshmerga, told London-based Alhayat that "ceasefire truce between Baghdad and Erbil remains fragile, and Peshmerga remain on alert".
Explaining his statement, Barzani said "there are no guarantees from Baghdad or the Popular Mobilization Forces (for sustaining the truce)".
Makhmur, which falls to the west of Erbil, Kurdistan Region’s capital, is a home to an Arab majority and a Kurdish minority. It was the stage of a military standoff between the two sides last October.
Iraqi forces took over Makhmur and other regions disputed with Kurdistan in October in response to a referendum the autonomous region held in September when a majority of citizens voted for independence from Iraq, a step which Baghdad deemed unconstitutional.
Both governments have recently exchanged official visits in order to resolve the crisis that resulted from the referendum, with reports suggesting an approach towards a resolution. Erbil hopes to lift penalties imposed by Baghdad over the referendum, including an embargo on the region’s airports and border crossings.

Several European nations, including Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Slovenia, are reportedly mulling recognizing an independent Palestine in response to Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem. The Slovenian foreign minister has already confirmed his country’s intention.

It covers a lot of the things that were over the years discussed and agreed on... There were never any deals that came close, because Jerusalem, you could never get past Jerusalem. People say I set it back. I didn’t set it back. I helped it. Because by taking it off the table, that was the toughest issue. And Israel will pay for that... They’ll do something that’s going to be a very good thing."
He continues: "But they (the Israelis) want to make peace, and I hope the Paleostinians want to make peace. And if they do, everybody’s going to be very happy in the end."
Asked if he’d heard Abbas’s recent remarks castigating the US, Trump says "I didn’t really read his remarks personally. I’m probably better off not seeing them. But we’ve done a lot for them, and hopefully they’ll going to to make peace for their people.
"It’s many years of killing people. It’s many years of killing each other. They have to be tired and disgusted of it.... I think eventually very sound minds ‐ I hope sounds minds ‐ are going to prevail. And it would be a great achievement of mine. I’ve said it from day one."

About time someone started holding them accountable. Its impossible to negotiate unless there is a will to hold the other party to it, and to credibly threaten them with an appropriate punishment.

Addressing the Security Council, Danny Danon says Iran controls 82,000 fighters in Syria, including 9,000 members of the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, 10,000 Shiite snuffies from Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistain, and another 60,000 Syrians.
"We are releasing this classified information because it is vital for the world to understand that if we turn a blind eye in Syria, the Iranian threat will only grow," he says.
Danon goes on to say the size of the Iranian-backed force in Syria is proof of Tehran’s intentions to sow chaos in the region and threaten Israel.

Yesterday’s report by the official IRNA news agency says the bombs were seized in the eastern part of the country and accused the Saudi intelligence service of bringing them into the country.
A second operation took place against a "separatist group" in the Kurdish town of Marivan near the Iraqi border, where authorities seized grenades and rockets.
In both areas occasional festivities take place between Iranian forces and IS-linked fighters and krazed killer Kurdish separatists.
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly accused rival Iran of sending weapons to Yemen’s Shiite Houthis rebels to fight the Saudi-backed coalition there.
