Caribbean-Latin America
Report: Brazil launches war crimes probe into visiting IDF soldier
[IsraelTimes] A Brazilian federal court has ordered police to investigate if an IDF soldier who was traveling in the South American country was responsible for “war crimes” in Gaza, local media report.

The order came after the anti-Israel Hind Rajab Foundation
…named after a six year old child who died in Gaza City, for which the organization blames the IDF. The foundation is a project launched last October by the March 30 Movement, itself named in memory of the Palestinian general strike on that date in 1976 in the West Bank against the Israeli government, since referred to as Land Day. Both groups are lawfare boiler rooms generating endless laswsuits against Israelis and those who support Israel in Western Europe and elsewhere, and between times propagandizing against Israel using the currently fashionable far left shibboleths. March 30 appears to be the hobby of lawyer Haroon Raza, and appeared on the scene at the end of 2023…
filed a complaint against the soldier.

The Belgium-based group has filed similar complaints in other countries, including against Israel’s military attaché in Brussels and a soldier traveling in Sri Lanka.

Brazil’s Metrópoles news site says the Foundation supplied 500 pages of evidence including videos and images showing the soldier planting explosives in November, 2024, used to destroy infrastructure and buildings in Gaza.

The report said the court issued an arrest warrant for the Israeli, but it was unclear if he had been detained.

The Ynet news site later reported that the soldier had managed to leave Brazil.

Last month, the IDF reportedly warned dozens of soldiers against traveling abroad, after some 30 soldiers who fought in Gaza had war crimes complaints filed against them.

Soldiers have been identified from videos and images they posted online that were taken during their service in Gaza, even though from the start of the ground operation in the Strip, the IDF instructed troops not to publish such images amid concerns the material could be used against them in war crimes proceedings.

Anti-Israel activists are carefully monitoring the social media accounts of soldiers who have posted such material in case they also publish images from trips abroad, at which point the activists plan to file local charges against them.

Soldiers who are planning to travel abroad are being advised to not post any images that give away their location.

Houthis claim overnight missile attack targeted power station near Hadera
[IsraelTimes] The Houthis in Yemen take responsibility for last night’s ballistic missile launch at Israel, claiming to have targeted the Orot Rabin power plant near Hadera.

It would mark the deepest claimed strike in Israel by the Houthis. Previous attacks by the Houthis have targeted the Tel Aviv area and southern Israel.

The IDF said the missile was successfully intercepted before crossing the country’s borders.

The Iran-backed terror group claims that “the operation successfully achieved its objectives.”

There were no reports of impacts in Israel.

University Jew-hate follies for the week of 12/22-1/4/2025
UVA alumni group accuses university of ignoring rampant campus antisemitism
[CollegeFix] The University of Virginia “has willfully ignored its longstanding antisemitism problem” and must address it now, according to the Jefferson Council, an alumni network dedicated to preserving Thomas Jefferson’s legacy at the venerable university.

The alumni group recently published a 13-page report authored by council President Joel Gardner that argues antisemitism has been “exponentially exacerbated” on campus over the last year, following the massacre of Israeli citizens by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2024.

A chart in the report details how reported incidents of religious-based bias, discrimination and harassment at UVA over the last eight years is primary against Judaism, far outpacing Islam and Christianity.

‘No probable cause’: Police close investigation into claim Jewish student threatened Muslim roommate with a knife
Isha Hussein said the University of Washington did nothing to help her after her Jewish roommate allegedly threatened her with a knife during an argument about the war in Israel. Actually, the Jewish roommate moved out of the residence hall and Hussein herself declined to have the police investigate further. The Jewish student disputes the allegations.

No records of Hussein being assaulted by another roommate
Isha Hussein made two other claims. One, she claimed another roommate assaulted her in retaliation for reporting the Jewish roommate. No police report exists for this alleged assault. A spokesman to the school, in connection to the various allegations, said that they were “difficult to verify or resolve for all parties.” Hussein also claimed the third and final roommatethreatened her. While this could have happened, the lack of evidence in the first two allegations points to this also not being true, as well as the lack of any other police reports besides the October 2023 one.

George Mason U. must denounce ‘antisemitic, pro-terrorist sentiment’: law professors

The demand from 16 law professors follows three major allegations against students at the public university in Fairfax, Va.

Law enforcement found guns, ammo, and “death to Jews” signs at the home Jena and Nora Chanaa, two Students for Justice in Palestine leaders, as previously reported by The College Fix.

The FBI is also investigating Abdullah Ezzeldin Taha Mohamed Hassan on allegations he plotted a “mass casualty attack” on the Israeli consulate in New York City, as The Fix recently reported.

President Washington reportedly told the professors that the university has denounced antisemitism and that it is waiting for legal guidance from the attorney general and local prosecutor concerning banning face masks.

Israeli woman says she was attacked in Berlin while wearing Israeli-Palestinian coexistence badge
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli woman tells Channel 12 she was attacked by a gang in Berlin on New Year’s Eve, one of whom shouted that “Israel should be erased.”

The woman named only as Soli tells the outlet that she was wearing a coexistence badge depicting the Israeli and Palestinian flags in the shape of a heart. The badges were distributed by the Israeli-Palestinian Kanaan restaurant in the German capital.

Soli, a resident of Berlin, says she was followed by the three men and a young woman when she got off a train and that she took a photo of them after one of them shouted the anti-Israel slogan.

She says the woman then pulled her hair and when she fell to the ground, the men attacked her.

“I walked away and the young Arab woman came, told me to give her the phone, and said something else in Arabic that I didn’t understand,” Soli tells Channel 12. “She pulled my hair. I pulled back and she kicked me. I fell. The other three came and kicked me in the head.”

The outlet does not say if a complaint was filed with police.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
1 Palestinian killed, 9 injured during IDF counterterror raid in northern West Bank
[IsraelTimes] The Paleostinian Authority health ministry says one person was killed and nine injured during an Israel Defense Forces raid on the Balata refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

The IDF says that during the "counterterrorism" operation, "snuffies placed explosives in the area to harm (military) soldiers, hurled explosives, Molotov cocktails and rocks, and shot fireworks at the forces."

"The forces fired toward the snuffies in order to remove the threat. Hits were identified," the IDF statement says.

The PA health ministry says an 18-year-old man, Muhammad Medhat Amin Amer, "was killed by bullets from the occupation in the Balata camp," adding that nine people were maimed, "four of whom are at death's door."

According to the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy, the raid began last night and triggered violent mostly peaceful festivities.

The official Paleostinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli troops entered the camp from the Awarta checkpoint and "deployed snipers on the rooftops of surrounding buildings."

Since October 7, 2023, troops have arrested some 6,000 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,350 affiliated with Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 835 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or snuffies carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 43 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another six members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank.

Blinken: After Oct. 7, I threatened to nix Biden visit if Israel didn’t let aid into Gaza
As the Germans say, Geh mit Gott, aber geh!
[IsraelTimes] Outgoing secretary of state tells NY Times he argued for ‘9 hours’ with Israeli leaders over aid; is ‘astounded’ at lack of world pressure on Hamas to end war, free the hostages

Speaking to The New York Times

...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

in a wide-ranging interview at the end of his tenure, Blinken spoke about the initial siege imposed on Gaza in the wake of the massacre that killed some 1,200 people and saw another 251 taken hostage.

He detailed how during the trip, five days after the attack, he met with Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, "arguing for hours on end about the basic proposition that the humanitarian assistance needed to get to Paleostinians in Gaza."

"And that was an argument that took place because you had in Israel in the days after October 7 a totally traumatized society. This wasn’t just the prime minister or a given leader in Israel. This was an entire society that didn’t want any assistance getting to a single Paleostinian in Gaza. I argued that for nine hours," he said.

Ultimately, he said, he had to threaten that Biden would not come to Israel if aid did not start going in.

"I told the prime minister, I’m going to call the president and tell him not to come if you don’t allow this assistance to start flowing. And I called the president to make sure that he agreed with that, and he fully did. We got the agreement to begin assistance through Rafah, which we [later] expanded to Kerem Shalom and many other places," he said.

In the interview, Blinken reiterated that the US does not believe that Israel is carrying out genocide in Gaza, though he said there were times when Israel was not "doing enough" to allow in humanitarian assistance.

Blinken also denied that Netanyahu was responsible for talks on a ceasefire-hostage deal falling apart in June, saying it has been Hamas that has prevented an agreement.

"What we’ve seen time and again is Hamas not concluding a deal that it should have concluded," Blinken said, adding that he was surprised and dismayed that most global pressure to end the conflict has been on Israel, not Hamas.

"One of the things that I found a little astounding throughout is that for all of the understandable criticism of the way Israel has conducted itself in Gaza, you hear virtually nothing from anyone since October 7 about Hamas," he said.

"Why there hasn’t been a unanimous chorus around the world for Hamas to put down its weapons, to give up the hostages, to surrender — I don’t know what the answer is to that. Israel, on various occasions [prior to the war], has offered safe passage to Hamas’s leadership and fighters out of Gaza. Where is the world? Where is the world saying, Yeah, do that! End this! Stop the suffering of people that you brought on!" he said.

Blinken has made 11 visits to Israel since the war began in October, 7, 2023, and has made dozens of visits to regional countries, including Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
and Egypt, to represent the Biden administration in hostage and ceasefire talks.

He was picked by President Biden to be Secretary of State in 2021 and served in the role for the entirety of Biden’s term in office.

As President-elect Donald Trump
...The Hero of Butler, Pennsylvania...
is set to take office on January 20, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio
...The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida, Secretary of State in the second Trump administration...
is expected to be confirmed as the next secretary of state, US policy toward Israel and the region will change significantly, likely departing from the Biden administration’s demands for greater humanitarian aid access in Gaza.

On Friday, Channel 12 reported that Israel is already considering significantly restricting the amount of aid entering Gaza in anticipation of Trump’s inauguration.

The move is reportedly aimed at dismantling Hamas’s governing capabilities in Gaza, which Jerusalem says the terror group has been able to maintain after nearly 15 months of war by controlling much of the aid that enters the Strip. Hamas fighters have been known to charge fees in exchange for the release of aid convoys upon their entry into Gaza.

Only a limited amount of aid is entering Gaza, and a further siphoning would likely exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Many of those displaced by the war are living in tents and reporting major shortages in food and medical supplies.

Israeli authorities say they have allowed thousands of aid trucks carrying food, water, medical equipment, and shelter supplies into Gaza, with much of it looted by Hamas and armed gangs. International aid agencies say Israeli forces have been hampering aid deliveries, making the situation even worse.

IDF destroys Hamas terror compound overlooking Israel; rocket hits aid crossing
[IsraelTimes] Palestinians report dozens killed in Strip in past day, as Israeli officials at UN defend raid on north Gaza hospital from last week

The Israeli military said Saturday that its troops had in recent days demolished an entire residential complex in northern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. , close to Beit Hanoun, which had been used as a hideout and command center by senior Hamas

commanders.

The military said the "officers’ neighborhood" had high-rise buildings overlooking the Sderot area of southern Israel and served as a "central terror complex" with anti-tank firing positions, booby traps, tunnels and rocket launchers aimed at Israel.

The complex overlooks the Israeli community of Netiv Ha’asara and was considered a threat to the rail line to Sderot, which hasn’t operated since Oct. 7, 2023.

The IDF said combat engineers destroyed the entire complex and the terror infrastructure it housed over the past week.

On Saturday evening a rocket launched from the northern Gaza Strip struck the Erez Border Crossing, the military said. The rocket impact caused damage to the crossing and an area adjacent to an aid truck compound. There were no reports of injuries. It marked the ninth day in a row of rocket fire from Gaza. Sirens had sounded in nearby Netiv Ha’asara during the attack.

The crossing, which in the past facilitated people’s movement between Gaza and Israel, is being used to bring aid into Gaza.

At the same time, Paleostinian medics said over 60 people had been killed in strikes across Gaza over the last day, including 12 in a house in Gaza City early on Saturday. Medics said several children were among those killed.

A recent surge in Israeli operations comes amid a renewed push to reach a ceasefire in the 15-month-old war and bring home Israeli hostages before US President-elect Donald Trump
...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down...

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Reports: IDF may extend south Lebanon presence for 30 more days as Hezbollah regroups
[IsraelTimes] Israel said weighing decision as Lebanese army fails to deploy to area in a timely manner; Hezbollah chief says ‘patience may run out’ even before 60-day window is up

Lebanese army officials have received "serious signals" that Israel could extend its presence in Leb
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. Only one of those statements is an exaggeration....
for an additional 30 days beyond the 60-day withdrawal period stipulated in its ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, a newspaper aligned with the terror group reported on Saturday.

According to the al-Akhbar outlet, US military official Major General Jasper Jeffers, who is tasked with overseeing the ceasefire, recently sent a message to the Lebanese Armed Forces indicating that the Israel Defense Forces will decide whether to request the extension depending on if it can "fulfill its goals of ensuring the end of [Hezbollah’s] ability to carry out a preemptive attack."

As part of the truce agreement signed by Israel and the terror group on November 27, the IDF is required to cede all of its positions in southern Lebanon to the LAF within 60 days. At the same time, Hezbollah is required to retreat north of the Litani River, some 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the border with Israel.

Within the 60-day withdrawal period, however, the IDF has continued to carry out strikes against Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure in south Lebanon. It has denied violating the terms of the agreement, saying that the strikes have targeted Hezbollah’s own violations.

Speaking to The Times of Israel last month, a military source confirmed that the IDF was gearing up for the possibility that troops would stay beyond the 60-day period as the Lebanese army is currently deploying too slowly to the southern Lebanon area, allowing Hezbollah time to regroup.

In addition to slow deployment rates, the Lebanese army is failing to attack Hezbollah targets when the opportunity arises. Nevertheless, the source said that while extending the length of the IDF’s deployment would test the ceasefire agreement, it would not necessarily collapse.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
warned on Saturday that the terror group’s "patience may run out" even before the 60-day window is up.

"There is no timetable that specifies the resistance’s work, and our patience is linked to the appropriate timing to confront the enemy," Qassem said in a speech. "Our patience may run out before or after the 60 days, when we decide to do something that you will see directly."

"In the past, Israel reached Beirut within days, but in the 2024 aggression, it was unable to advance more than a few hundred meters at the front edge. Israel was unable to advance because the resistance fighters stood firm and stood firm in the face of it," he said

Israel did not seek to move beyond the border area in its recent ground campaign, saying it was acting only to eliminate Hezbollah infrastructure threatening communities in northern Israel.

"The enemy was forced to request a ceasefire because of the resistance’s capabilities, and we agreed through the Lebanese state," claimed Qassem.

Israeli forces have so far withdrawn from two towns in southern Lebanon — Khiam and Shamaa, but according to the International Organization for Migration, they remain stationed in some 60 others, and around 160,000 Lebanese remain displaced.

Citing unnamed Israeli officials, the Ynet news outlet reported that although the option has been considered, no decision has been made about extending the IDF’s presence in southern Lebanon.

The decision will be made closer to the 60-day deadline, the report said, and will depend on whether or not the Lebanese army appears able to fulfill its part of the ceasefire agreement and regain full control over southern Lebanon from Hezbollah.

If the Lebanese army cannot meet the terms of the agreement, then Israel does not see a reason to withdraw its troops back across the border and believes that the United States, which brokered the agreement, would understand the need for an extension, the report added.

Fighting came to a halt with the start of the ceasefire agreement on November 27, despite both parties frequently accusing the other of violating its terms.

Lebanon has accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement and last week submitted a complaint to the UN Security Council alleging that Israel launched some 816 "ground and air attacks" between the start of the ceasefire and December 22, 2024.

The complaint said that the attacks have hindered the Lebanese army’s efforts to deploy in the south and uphold its end of the agreement.

Israel has disputed this, and on Thursday said that fighter jets had carried out strikes on rocket launchers in south Lebanon only after its request for the Lebanese military to neutralize the launchers went unanswered.

On Saturday, the international peacekeeping body UNIFIL accused the Israeli military of destroying a blue barrel marking the border between Israel and Lebanon, as well as a Lebanese army observation tower near one of the UN observer force’s positions.

"This morning peacekeepers observed an IDF bulldozer destroying a blue barrel marking the line of withdrawal between Lebanon and Israel in Labbouneh, as well as an observation tower belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces immediately beside a UNIFIL position there," the observer force said.

UNIFIL said the IDF’s "deliberate and direct destruction" of the blue barrel and Lebanese army infrastructure is a "flagrant violation of Resolution 1701 and international law."

"We call on all actors to avoid any actions, including the destruction of civilian property and infrastructure, that could jeopardize the cessation of hostilities," the observer force added.

There was no immediate comment from the IDF on the incident.

In turn, Israel has accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire hundreds of times and has also complained to the UN Security Council. It has accused terror operatives of moving ammunition, attempting to attack Israeli soldiers, and preparing to launch rockets toward northern Israel among other things.

Israel, under the ceasefire agreement, is entitled to act against immediate threats posed by Hezbollah but must forward complaints about longer-term threats to the oversight committee comprised of representatives from the US, La Belle France, Lebanon, and the international peacekeeping force UNIFIL.

With both sides trading accusations, Channel 12 news and the Lebanese ad-Diyar newspaper reported on Friday that the main US negotiator of the deal, Amos Hochstein, will travel to Beirut early next week.

According to Channel 12, Hochstein’s visit is meant to ensure a smooth and timely transition in southern Lebanon as the IDF hands off to the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas releases video of hostage Liri Albag, 19. Parents: ‘This is not the Liri we know’
[IsraelTimes] Family says her ‘difficult mental state is evident’ in the three-and-a-half-minute video, appeals to government to work on hostage deal ‘as if your children were there’

The Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
terror group released a propaganda video on Saturday showing signs of life from 19-year-old hostage Liri Albag, the latest in a series of clips it has released of Israeli captives taken in the October 7, 2023 attack.

The three-and-a-half-minute-long video was not dated, although Albag stated in it that she has been held for over 450 days, indicating that it was filmed recently.

Albag, a surveillance soldier, was stationed at the Nahal Oz military base close to the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. border when thousands of Hamas-led murderous Moslems poured into Israel from the Paleostinian enclave. Fifteen surveillance soldiers were killed in the onslaught, and Albag was kidnapped to Gaza along with six others.

One of the kidnapped surveillance soldiers was later rescued alive, and the body of a second one was recovered after she was murdered in captivity. The other five — Albag, Karina Ariev, Agam Berger, Naama Levy and Daniella Gilboa — are still hostages.

Israel has condemned previous such videos of hostages as psychological warfare by Hamas.

Most Israeli media do not carry video clips published by the terror group unless the family expressly requests so. Albag’s family asked that the media not publish the video, although it permitted outlets to carry still images from the footage.

"The video released today tore our hearts apart," her family said in a short statement on Saturday evening. "This is not the same daughter and sister that we know. She is in bad condition, and her difficult mental state is evident."

"We saw our heroic Liri survive and beg for her life. She is several dozen kilometers from us, and for 456 days we have been unable to bring her home," the family said.

Restive protesters demand Gaza deal, look to Trump after video shows hostage alive
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrators in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem call on incoming US president to ‘end war’ and bring captives home, accusing Biden of dropping ball; at least five arrested.

Thousands of people rallied in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem Saturday night to call for a deal to free hostages held in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. for negotiations aimed at bridging longstanding differences after months of fruitless efforts to reach a deal with the Hamas terror group to free hostages held in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attack.

At least five people were arrested in Tel Aviv as anti-government protests focused on pressing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration to reach a hostage deal turned restless, ending weeks of relative calm between demonstrators and police.

Albag, a surveillance soldier, was kidnapped from the Nahal Oz military base along with six others. She is one of 96 hostages believed to still be in captivity in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 34 confirmed dead by the IDF.

The Hamas propaganda video was not dated, although Albag stated in it that she has been held for over 450 days, indicating that it was filmed recently. Saturday marked the 456th day of the crisis.

Relatives of hostages urged the public to take to the streets en masse at the weekly Saturday night demonstrations following the release of the video, which Albag’s family has asked Israeli news outlets not to air.

"The sign of life from Liri is harsh and undeniable proof of urgency in bringing all the hostages home," the Hostage Families Forum said in a statement. "Every day in Hamas’s hell in Gaza poses an immediate risk of death to the living hostages and endangers the ability to recover the fallen for proper burial."

In Tel Aviv, speakers addressing a crowd of some 1,500 anti-government protesters gathered near military headquarters called on US President-elect Donald Trump
...So far he's been unkillable, and they've tried....
to end the war in Gaza and secure a deal.

Trump has repeatedly threatened harsh action if the hostages remain in captivity once he takes office on January 20, but talks on a deal have remained stuck due to various issues, including Hamas’s demand that any agreement include an end to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

Protesters later hoisted burning torches and lit bonfire on the road, clashing with police who attempted to clear the roadway.

Mounted police were seen charging into crowds and footage showed cops shoving away protesters trying to stop them from carrying people off the road. A policeman also snatched a megaphone from the hands of one protester and tossed it into the ashes of a bonfire the demonstrators had lit.

Police said five people were detained for disturbing public order after "officers were caught in festivities including shoving and attempts to stop them" from deploying.

There had been no arrests at the weekly protests since the beginning of December, when Hamas released a video of hostage Matan Zangauker.

In Jerusalem, four protesters were detained by police outside Netanyahu’s residence, the Walla news site reported.

In Jerusalem, hundreds of demonstrators demanding a hostage deal marched to Netanyahu’s home, carrying a banner that read: "They are all humanitarian," referring to the hostages.

Negotiations for a release deal have focused on an initial stage that would see "humanitarian" cases freed first, but families have demanded that all hostages be let go at once.

Saturday’s protests and the release of Hamas’s latest propaganda clip coincided with ongoing hostage negotiations in Doha, where Qatari mediators met with a mid-level Israeli negotiating team and Hamas representatives for parallel discussions aimed at overcoming ongoing differences between the warring parties.

Talks had stalled for roughly a week and a half after the prime minister called back Israel’s negotiating team from Qatar for internal deliberations on December 25. Since then, optimism about the potential for a deal before Trump’s inauguration waned.

After the talks wrapped up on Friday, a senior Israeli official told Axios that Israel and Hamas remain at an impasse over almost all issues and that the negotiations were advancing very slowly as a result. Nevertheless, the official said it would become clear within a week whether or not a deal could be reached.

IDF says number of troop suicides has risen during war
Israel is accustomed to short, sharp wars. This long war thing is much harder on the soldiers as well as the home front.
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it has seen a rise in the number of suspected suicides in the military amid the war, as it releases statistics of its fatalities from the past two years.

According to the IDF’s data, 38 soldiers are believed to have taken their own lives in 2023 and 2024 — 28 of them after the October 7, 2023, onslaught that started the ongoing war. In 2022, the IDF recorded 14 suicides and in 2021 it recorded 11.

Unsurprisingly due to war in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. Strip and fighting in Leb
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. Only one of those statements is an exaggeration....
and on other fronts, the number of deaths in the IDF in 2023 and 2024 has been the highest in decades.

According to the IDF, 558 soldiers were killed in 2023, including 512 during "operational activity" — apparently including the hundreds who were killed during Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
’s October 7 onslaught — and three in terror attacks.

Sixteen soldiers died in accidents — two in training, four in civilian car crashes, five in military car crashes, one as a result of an accidental weapon discharge, and four in other incidents — and 10 died from illness in 2023.

In 2023, the IDF says that 17 soldiers were believed to have taken their own lives. They include seven conscripts, four career soldiers, and six reservists. Seven of the suspected suicides in 2023 were after the October 7 onslaught.

During the past year, the total number of fatalities in the IDF has decreased compared to 2023, but the number of suicides has risen, according to the IDF’s data.

In 2024, the IDF recorded a total of 363 deaths in the military, including 295 in operational activity amid the war and 11 in terror attacks.

Twenty-three soldiers died in accidents — 17 in civilian car crashes, three in military car crashes, and three in other incidents — and 13 died by illness in 2024.

In 2024, the IDF says at least 21 soldiers died by suspected suicide — including seven conscripts, two career soldiers, and 12 reservists.

The high number of reservist suicides is explained by the IDF calling up nearly 300,000 reservists during the war.

All of the 38 suspected suicides in 2023 and 2024 were male.

The IDF says it is working to prevent suicides in the military, including by opening a 24/7 helpline, which has received over 3,900 calls since it was established in October 2023. The IDF has also called up over 800 reservist mental health officers amid the war.

Since the beginning of the war, the IDF says 891 soldiers have died, not all of them in combat. They include 329 during the October 7 onslaught, at least 390 during fighting in Gaza, 37 in attacks on northern Israel, 50 during fighting inside Lebanon, and 11 in the West Bank.

Afghanistan
Badakhshan Police Chief Denies Reports of Pakistani Troops Entering Wakhan
[ToloNews] Azizullah Omar, the police chief of Badakhshan, has denied reports claiming that Pak soldiers entered the strategic area in the Wakhan district of this province.
Good to know.
According to Omar, Afghan defense and security forces are stationed in the Wakhan corridor, and so far, there has been no movement by Pak forces in the region.

The police chief emphasized that Afghan cops will not allow any country to enter Afghanistan’s territory. He stated: "The reports published in the media are not true. We are in constant communication with our security forces. There is no problem, and no one has the capability to enter Wakhan. Our defense and security forces are fully prepared to counter any attack."

This comes as some Pak media outlets recently claimed that the country’s military had attacked the strategic Wakhan corridor in Badakhshan and seized parts of the area.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
some residents of Badakhshan have called on the caretaker government to pay serious attention to protecting the country’s territory.

Abdul Saboor, a resident of Badakhshan, told TOLOnews: "Pakistain can never invade Wakhan. Previous governments were involved in deals, but the Islamic Emirate will not allow it."

Zalmai, another resident of Badakhshan, added: "Our demand from the Islamic Emirate is to strengthen and protect the borders."

The Wakhan corridor, a strategically significant region located in the Wakhan district of Badakhshan, forms part of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistain. It is also recognized as a border area between China and Tajikistan.

Iran Commander: Afghan Border Closure Plan ‘Progressing Rapidly’
How nice. An actual win for Iran — they haven’t had any in a while.
[ToloNews] Ali Karimi, one of the commanders of Iran's Border Force, stated that all of the country’s eastern borders, including the shared border with Afghanistan, are being managed round-the-clock using smart equipment.

Karimi also mentioned that significant progress has been made in constructing barriers and building walls along the Afghanistan-Iran

border.

The Iranian border commander added, "Despite the harsh climatic conditions of the region, the project to seal the border between the two countries is being carried out rapidly and has made good physical progress."

Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni also announced that the draft law for the country's National Migration Organization has been prepared and sent to the Islamic Consultative Assembly. He emphasized the importance of this law in regulating migration affairs and expressed hope for its approval.

The Interior Minister stated about the draft law: "We had a draft in the previous parliament regarding this matter which did not reach a conclusion. Now, the draft has been prepared by the Ministry of Interior, and we hope the parliament will approve the National Migration Organization's bill."

"In my opinion, this is an important step because, based on this draft, Iran has global responsibilities to respect the rights of Afghan migrants colonists in Iran," Ehsan Ahmadzai, a migrant rights activist, told TOLOnews.

"The movement of Afghans between Afghanistan and Iran will decrease. On the other hand, the accusations made by Iran against Afghanistan will also be addressed. The more the borders are fortified, the more it will benefit both countries," said Jannat Faheem Chakari, a military analyst.

Earlier, a commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces also stated that 35 kilometers of fencing along the eastern borders with Afghanistan have been completed. As a result, Afghan movements along this border strip have decreased by 50%, Iranian officials claimed.

Iran uses electronic equipment to monitor Afghanistan border
January 2, 2025

[KhaamaPress] An Iranian border commander stated that the country’s borders with Afghanistan are being monitored and controlled around the clock using smart electronic equipment. Ali Karimi also mentioned that significant progress has been made in the construction of the border wall between the two countries.

According to IRNA, Ali Karimi, the Iranian commander in Torbat-e Jam, said, “Despite the harsh weather conditions in the region, the plan to close the border strip between the two countries is progressing rapidly and has seen good physical progress.”

Mehdi Shirdel, the governor of Taybad, also reported that the operation to block the 300-kilometer border strip between Iran and Afghanistan in Khorasan Razavi province is ongoing. According to him, this project involves constructing a four-meter-high wall with barbed wire placed on top.

Taybad County shares a 90-kilometer border with Afghanistan, and due to the presence of the Dogharoun border crossing, this area holds special economic significance for Iran.

At the same time, this route has become one of the main pathways for human trafficking into Iran, highlighting the complexities of border security efforts.

The ongoing construction of the border wall and the deployment of high-tech surveillance systems are part of Iran’s broader efforts to control migration and curb illegal activities like human trafficking. However, the complex social, economic, and political factors driving migration must also be addressed to mitigate the flow of people across the border.

While the physical barriers and surveillance measures may reduce illegal crossings, they do not solve the root causes of migration, such as poverty, conflict, and lack of opportunities in Afghanistan. A more comprehensive approach, combining both border control and humanitarian support, is necessary to address the full scope of the issue and ensure that migrants are treated with dignity and respect.

Islamic Emirate, Pakistani Forces Clash in Khost
[ToloNews] Military festivities between the forces of the Islamic Emirate and Pakistain in Khost province

ended this morning (Friday, January 3) after several hours.

According to local residents, the festivities began at 1:30 AM last night and continued until 5:00 AM.

Initially, Pak forces targeted the Alisher district of Khost with rocket attacks, and then the forces of the Islamic Emirate responded to these attacks.

The Islamic Emirate has announced that the festivities caused no casualties.

Some residents of Khost province have also criticized Pakistain’s attack on the Ali Sher district.

"Last night, at 1:30 AM, Pakistain launched rocket attacks, which Afghan forces defended against, and the festivities continued until 5:00 AM," said Hakeemullah, a resident of Khost.

"As a result of these festivities, people face numerous problems. Poor and impoverished individuals cannot afford transportation to the villages," said Dawlat Khan, another resident of Khost.

Verbal tensions and military festivities between Afghanistan and Pakistain are not new and have also occurred in the past.

"Pakistain is a close neighbor of Afghanistan, and it is necessary for this country to understand Afghanistan's current situation. Issues should be resolved through political, economic, and transit avenues via diplomatic channels," said Hadi Quraishi, a military analyst.

ISIS remains a threat after US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Expert says
[KhaamaPress] A senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the editor of The Long War Journal has stated that ISIS remains a threat from Afghanistan.

Bill Roggio, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the editor of The Long War Journal, made these comments on Friday, January 3, during an interview with Fox News.

Bill Roggio pointed out that "the claim of ISIS’s defeat, just like the premature claim of al-Qaeda’s defeat, is inaccurate."

He emphasized that while the group may have suffered setbacks, their presence remains active. This senior fellow also clarified that, besides Afghanistan, ISIS continues to pose a significant threat in Africa, especially in the Sahel and East Africa, as well as in Iraq and Syria.

He argued that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the fall of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
’s regime in Syria have created security vacuums in South Asia and the Middle East.

Roggio’s comments were made in relation to a recent attack in New Orleans on Wednesday, where 15 people were killed and 30 others injured. After the incident, the FBI revealed that an ISIS flag was found in the attacker’s vehicle.

It is also noteworthy that ISIS was responsible for an attack during the August 2021 evacuation operation at Kabul’s airport, which killed 13 U.S. soldiers and over 150 Afghans.

These attacks highlight the continuing global threat posed by ISIS, despite claims of its defeat in certain regions. The persistent instability in areas like Afghanistan and Syria allows bully boy groups to maintain their operations and further destabilize already fragile regions. The international community must continue to address these threats to ensure greater global security.

International organizations and research foundations have revealed that more than 20 terrorist groups, including ISIS, are active in Afghanistan. However,

Europe
EU to set up ‘Return Centers’ to expedite deportations of rejected refugees
[KhaamaPress] On Thursday, Sweden’s Prime Minister announced that the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
will propose the creation of "return centers" in March to expedite the deportation of rejected asylum seekers. If approved, rejected refugees will be sent to centers located outside of Europe.

The increasing support for far-right parties across Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
has pushed the immigration debate to the forefront of European leaders’ agendas. In October, EU leaders revealed they were considering a plan to send rejected asylum seekers to safe centers in countries outside the EU, effectively preventing them from remaining within the Union.

In a meeting with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson outlined a potential timeline for presenting the proposal and urged the EU to intensify efforts to tackle illegal immigration. Kristersson also shared the proposal with Magnus Brunner, the EU’s Commissioner for Migration.

Austrian Chancellor Nehammer praised the EU’s decision to address illegal immigration and highlighted that 18 countries within the Schengen Area, including Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
and Norway, are now supporting efforts to curb illegal migration. This growing coalition demonstrates a shift towards stricter border control measures across Europe.

As the EU works on finalizing this new proposal, it is clear that the conversation around immigration is changing. While it remains a contentious issue, the growing unity among European countries, particularly in the Schengen Area, could lead to more coordinated efforts in addressing illegal migration.

The potential impact of these "return centers" on refugees and the broader geopolitical landscape will likely continue to dominate discussions throughout 2025, raising important questions about human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
, border security, and the future of Europe’s immigration policy.

The Grand Turk
Over 3,000 terrorists killed by Turkish Forces in 2024
[KhaamaPress] The spokesperson for the Ottoman Turkish Ministry of Defense, Zeki AkTurk, announced on Thursday, January 2, that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has killed a total of 3,070 forces of Evil in 2024. He detailed that 1,579 forces of Evil were targeted in northern Syria, while 1,491 were killed in northern Iraq.

According to the Ottoman Turkish Anadolu Agency, AkTurk emphasized that the figures reflect the ongoing efforts of Turkey’s military against terrorist groups in both Syria and Iraq. "Since January 1, 2024, a total of 3,070 forces of Evil have been neutralized," he said during a presser.

Additionally, AkTurk revealed that in the past year, 107 forces of Evil have surrendered to Ottoman Turkish authorities. The ministry also reported significant findings in terrorist hideouts, including a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and other materials discovered in caves during operations in northern Iraq, specifically in the Pence-Kapi area.

"Our fight will continue without interruption until the last terrorist is no longer a threat to our country," AkTurk asserted, reaffirming Turkey’s commitment to counterterrorism operations.

This announcement comes amid Turkey’s ongoing battle against Kurdish bad boy groups like the PKK and other terrorist factions that have targeted the country’s security in recent years.

As Turkey continues its military operations in neighboring countries, the government has emphasized the need for international cooperation to prevent cross-border terrorism. Despite its continued success in eliminating terrorists, Turkey faces complex challenges in maintaining security and combating terrorist networks operating in the region.

These developments highlight the rising tensions in the Middle East and the complex security challenges faced by Turkey in protecting its borders. Given the ongoing instability in neighboring Syria and Iraq, Turkey’s military presence and counterterrorism efforts will remain a critical factor in regional security dynamics.

Europe
Charlie Hebdo to mark 10 years since terror attack with special God-mocking edition
[IsraelTimes] Magazine to feature ‘funniest and meanest’ depictions of God; Macron, Hidalgo to attend memorials at satirical weekly’s then-office, kosher supermarket attacked in related assault

French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo
...Pix/Charliehebdo.jpgA lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
is set to publish a special God-mocking edition next week to mark 10 years since an attack on its offices by jihadist button men left eight staff members dead.

The anniversary of the shocking attack on freedom of expression is being used by the atheist publication to send a message of defiance to the holy warriors who burst into its offices on January 7, 2015, then fled shouting they had "killed Charlie Hebdo."

"They didn’t kill Charlie Hebdo," editor-in-chief Gerard Biard told AFP in a recent interview, adding that "we want it to last for a thousand years."

The attack by two Gay Paree-born brothers was Dire Revenge for Charlie Hebdo’s decision to repeatedly publish caricatures lampooning the Prophet Muhammad, Islam’s most revered figure.

The massacre of some of La Belle France’s most famous cartoonists signaled the start of a gruesome series of al-Qaeda and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
plots that claimed hundreds of lives in La Belle France and Western Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
over the following years.

Two days after the attack, a terrorist killed four French Jews and held 15 people hostage at Gay Paree’s Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket to demand that the Charlie Hebdo perpetrators not be harmed.

Next week’s edition is set to feature the results of a typically provocative competition launched in November to draw the "funniest and meanest" depictions of God. It will be revealed on Sunday evening.

It is intended for "everyone who is fed up with living in a society directed by God and religion. Everyone who is fed up with the so-called good and evil. Everyone who is fed up with religious leaders dictating our lives."

French President Emmanuel Macron and Gay Paree Mayor Anne Hidalgo will attend commemoration events on Tuesday at the location of the attack and at Hyper Cacher.

SOLIDARITY
The Charlie Hebdo killings profoundly shocked La Belle France. The attack fueled an outpouring of sympathy expressed in a wave of "Je Suis Charlie" ("I Am Charlie") solidarity with its lost contributors including famed cartoonists Cabu, Charb, Honore, Tignous and Wolinski.

But it also led to questioning, and in some cases a furious backlash, against Charlie’s deliberately offensive, often crude strain of humor, which is part of a long-standing French tradition of caricaturing.

Since its founding in 1970, the publication has regularly tested the boundaries of French hate-speech laws, which offer protection to minorities but allow for blasphemy
...the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence to a deity, or sacred objects, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable. Some religions consider it to be a crime. In Pakistain you can commit blasphemy by looking cross-eyed at a Koran...
and the mockery of religion.

Free-speech defenders in La Belle France see the ability to criticize and ridicule religion as a fundamental right acquired through centuries of struggle to escape the influence of the Catholic Church.

Critics say the weekly sometimes crosses the line into Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
, pointing to some of the Prophet Muhammad caricatures published in the past that appeared to associate Islam with terrorism.

"The idea is not to publish anything, it’s to publish everything that makes people doubt, brings them to reflect, to ask questions, to not end up closed in by ideology," director Riss, who survived the 2015 attack, told Le Monde in November.

"Basically, not being screwed over by what’s fashionable."

WINDFALL
The attack on Charlie Hebdo brought a mostly marginal publication into the mainstream and propelled it to the attention of hundreds of millions worldwide who often struggled to understand its contents.

More than three million people marched in solidarity in the streets of La Belle France afterward, and around 40 world leaders flew into Gay Paree to make a statement in defense of the free press.

A special post-attack edition of the newspaper sold more than eight million copies and donations poured in, giving the publication a financial windfall at odds with its anarcho-leftist spirit.

Subscriptions ballooned to more than 200,000 but have now fallen back to around 30,000, with another 20,000 copies sold at newsstands and in shops each week, which still exceeds Charlie Hebdo’s sales before the attack.

Thanks to new recruits, around 12 cartoonists are back working on the magazine at a secret, heavily protected office.

Controversy is never far away.

A front-page depiction of the Virgin Mary in August suffering from the mpox virus led to two legal complaints from Catholic organizations in La Belle France.

A cartoon by Riss in 2016 that linked a child refugee found dead on a beach in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
to foreign sexual attackers in Germany caused outrage, as did another the year after poking fun at French First Lady Brigitte Macron’s age by showing her pregnant.

On the first anniversary of the attack in 2015, Charlie Hebdo published a front-page cartoon of a bearded God-like figure carrying a Kalashnikov rifle.

"One year after, the killer is still on the run," read the title.

Late-night Houthi ballistic missile attack thwarted by IDF, muting widespread sirens
[IsraelTimes] No injuries or damage reported; in contrast with other recent attacks warnings sound only in a single town

A ballistic missile fired toward Israel from Yemen

was intercepted early Sunday morning, the military said, with air raid sirens largely remaining silent despite the threat.

rebel group just after midnight was the latest in a series of middle-of-the-night attacks that have sent millions scrambling for shelter, upending daily life in Israel and occasionally causing widespread destruction.

The army said the single ballistic missile "was intercepted prior to crossing into Israeli territory."

Sirens only sounded in the town of Talmei Elazar, an agricultural community near Hadera, in the north of Israel’s heavily populated central coastal region. The military said the warnings were triggered there "according to protocol," without providing details.

In previous attacks, sirens have sounded across wide swaths of the country, seemingly due to fears of falling shrapnel, which can cover a large area due to the speed of the long-range missiles and the height at which they are intercepted.

Loud blasts were reported in several areas around central Israel following the interception, and videos showed flaming pieces of shrapnel streaking toward earth.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

A spokesperson for the Houthis accused Israel of lying about the interception, and said the attacks would continue until Israel’s military campaign against the Hamas

ended, without taking direct responsibility for the launch.

Following the attack, the Houthi’s Saba news agency and al-Masirah TV reported three raids east of the Houthi-controlled city of Saada, in Yemen’s mountainous northwest, attributing the operations to the United States and Britannia.

There was no immediate comment from either military.

While most of the missiles and drones launched from Yemen have been intercepted, one missile maimed 16 people in Tel Aviv in December, according to the military and emergency services.

A number of people have also been injured while rushing for shelter.

Iranian foreign minister warns of ‘large-scale war’ if Israel attacks again
[IsraelTimes] In week-old comments aired Saturday, Araghchi tells Chinese broadcaster that Tehran is prepared for an Israeli strike, says Iran will pursue diplomacy and ‘reason will prevail’

Iran’s top diplomat said Tehran is ready for any future Israeli attacks on the country, warning that such action could spark a wider conflagration, in comments aired Saturday.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s remarks to Chinese state-run media come amid rising concern that Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. Donald Trump’s fault? Was it Donald Trump’s fault that Iran has been pursuing the nuclear bomb since the 1990s, and Donald Trump’s fault Iran signed President Obama’s stupid 2015 deal? Riiiight.

rebels, which receive arms and other support from the Islamic Theocratic Republic"We are fully prepared for the possibility of further Israeli attacks," Araghchi said to China’s state-run CCTV, according to a translation provided by the broadcaster. "I hope Israel will refrain from taking such reckless action, as it could lead to a large-scale war."
Or Israel could play Hamas & Hezbollah all over the former imamate of Iran…
Israel has carried out two direct attacks on Iran over the past year in response to unprecedented drone and missile attacks, including an October 1 barrage of some 200 ballistic missiles, most of which were intercepted.

Israeli warplanes carried out a counterstrike on October 26, hitting military facilities and air defenses protecting other key sites.

In April, Israel hit an air defense battery near a nuclear site in response to a volley of some 300 drones and missiles fired at Israel by Iran.

In contrast to bombastic rhetoric often utilized by Tehran to threaten Israel, however, Araghchi said Iran would pursue a "diplomatic approach" and would consult with allies, including China.
That’s nice. Why China?
"We believe that reason will ultimately prevail and prevent actions that could have serious consequences," Araghchi said.
Do remember those words when the time comes, mkay?
The interview with Araghchi was conducted on December 28, during a two-day state visit by the Iranian diplomat to Beijing last month seeking to cement bilateral ties. It was only aired a week later.

During a meeting on December 28, Araghchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed Iran’s nuclear program, with Araghchi telling a presser following the meeting that "2025 will be an important year regarding Iran’s nuclear issue."

...The turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a relatively large species of flatfish in the family Scophthalmidae. It is highly prized as a food fish. It is a valuable commercial species, acquired through aquaculture and trawling. Turbot are farmed in Bulgaria, Canada, France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Chile, Norway, and China. Turbot has a bright white flesh that retains this appearance when cooked. Like all flatfish, turbot yields four fillets with meatier topside portions that may be baked, poached, steamed, or pan-fried. It has been called The King of the Sea because of its exquisite flavor.

Turbat is a city in Pakistain located in southern Balochistan. It has nothing to do with the fish. Its primary industry appears to be murder. Don't go there, not even to visit

To recap, if it tastes good it's turbot. If you're being shot at, stabbed, choked, strangled, flung off a tall building, or piked it's Turbat, so get the hell out of there if you're not already dead. ...

. The condition of several injured victims has been reported as critical.

This incident comes amid a rise in terrorist attacks in Pakistain, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

According to data from the Pakistain Security Research Center, at least 1,612 people, including security forces and civilians, have been killed in terrorist attacks across the country in the past nine months.

IDF strikes over 100 Hamas terror targets in Gaza Strip over weekend

The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) conducted a series of strikes targeting over 100 terror sites across the Gaza Strip over the weekend, the military announced on Sunday.
And the weekend isn’t yet over. Ready to give up the hostages now, O Hamas?
The announcement came after the Hamas terrorist organization launched multiple projectiles toward Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip over the weekend, prompting a coordinated response.

Based on IDF intelligence, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) conducted precision strikes, neutralizing dozens of Hamas terrorists and dismantling key launch sites from which the attacks originated.

NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS
Prior to the strikes, the IDF implemented precautionary measures to minimize civilian casualties, including aerial surveillance, the deployment of precision-guided munitions, and comprehensive intelligence reviews.

The IDF and Shin Bet reiterated their commitment to protecting Israeli citizens and maintaining security by continuing operations against terrorist factions in the Gaza Strip.

‘Politicized' Science': James Comer Slams Biden Admin Call for Cancer Warning on Alcohol
[Breitbart] House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Saturday said that the Surgeon General’s call to have alcohol labeled with a cancer warning is based on politicized science and cherry-picked data.

Vivek Murthy, Biden’s Surgeon General, said in a report on Friday that alcohol should come with a warning label, as it is allegedly a leading cause of preventable cancer.

Murthy said in a written statement announcing the 22-page report:

Alcohol is a well-established, preventable cause of cancer responsible for about 100,000 cases of cancer and 20,000 cancer deaths annually in the United States — greater than the 13,500 alcohol-associated traffic crash fatalities per year in the U.S. — yet the majority of Americans are unaware of this risk.

The study claimed that seven types of cancer, including breast cancer and colon cancer, are linked to alcohol consumption. To spread awareness of the danger of alcohol, Murthy called for alcohol to have warning labels, similar to how tobacco products have warning labels.

Alcohol breaks down into acetaldehyde, a chemical that reportedly is known to harm DNA and increase the likelihood of cancer.

Comer has strongly condemned the report from the Surgeon General.

“The Surgeon General’s advisory on alcohol consumption politicizes science to achieve a predetermined outcome. The advisory cherry-picks data from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines study – a study that is far more extensive and complete, and does not draw the same drastic conclusions as the Surgeon General,” he explained in a written statement to Breitbart News.

Comer continued:

For nearly a year, the Oversight Committee has demanded transparency from the Biden Administration regarding the formulation of its dietary guidelines, but it continues to obstruct our oversight. The lack of transparency surrounding the Surgeon General’s review process for this advisory is yet another example of the Biden Administration operating behind closed doors rather than providing the American people with full transparency.

As Comer said in his statement, the Kentucky conservative emphasized in a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra that the opaquenss of the of the HHS-funded studies on alcohol consumption “may intend to undermine” Congress’s intention of studying the impacts of alcohol scientifically.

Comer and Oversight Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services Chair Lisa McClaim (R-MI) launched a probe into the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, especially related to alcohol consumption.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 and the National Nutrition Monitoring Act require the dietary guidelines to be based on scientific evidence and adhere to congressional intent.

In September, Comer issued a subpoena for documents and information, to which HHS only provided 18 pages of responsive documents.

Republicans have noted that eight of his office’s 12 policy goals revolve around mental health and the effects of firearm violence.

For instance, Murthy, in a report noting the alleged racial disparities of tobacco use, called tobacco-related illness a “social illness.”

“Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services must release all documents and communications related to the development of this advisory so that the American people can see how this politicized recommendation was created,” Comer concluded in his statement.

FBI, leading New Orleans investigation, has history of having foreknowledge, encouraging terrorist attacks , failing to prevent them
Surprise, surprise, surprise.

NOT!

[LawEnforcementToday] In 2015, roughly ten years before the New Orleans terrorist attack that killed 15 and injured dozens of people, including two city police officers, an FBI agent was befriended by a man, Erick Jamal Hendricks, who connected him to a radical Islamist terrorist, Elton Simpson, The Federalist reports.

The undercover agent, who has never been identified, encouraged Simpson to “tear up Texas” after being made aware of a possible terrorist attack at a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest to be held in Garland. In other words, much as what is alleged to have happened at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, where participants were encouraged by undercover FBI agents and informants to breach the Capitol, also occurred ten years ago.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the contest was to be held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. On May 3, 2015, just before the cartoon contest was to end, Simpson and an accomplice, Madir Hamid Soofi jumped out of a vehicle loaded with multiple rifles and handguns.

The two men started shooting dozens of rounds at the building, however, they were shot and killed by responding police officers and SWAT teams. CBS News reported at the time that local police had “prevented a massacre.”

The FBI agent was present at the attack and later told Hendricks, who was not at the attack site, that he was his “eyes” that day, the Dallas Morning News reported.

According to an AP wire at the time reported by WFAA, the unidentified FBI agent drove by the two men as they opened fire at the Culwell Center.

Court documents alleged that Garland was spoken explicitly about as a potential target in conversations between the FBI agent and Hendricks in Baltimore, Maryland, the day before the attack. Hendricks was arrested over a year after the Garland attack.

An attorney who represented a security guard who was shot in the leg during the attack and Abdul Malik Abdul Kareem, who was convicted on multiple weapons and conspiracy charges in connection with the case, criticized the FBI and believes there is more to the story.

“We are convinced that there is much more to this story than the FBI has admitted,” the attorney, Trenton Roberts, told the FBI.

While the FBI agent's presence was initially reported in August 2016, his proximity was unknown until later.

“A dark sedan in front of the agent made an abrupt stop. As the agent drove around the car, two men with an Islamic State flag, wearing body armor and carrying military-style rifles, got out and opened fire.”

In court, Kareem’s lawyer, Daniel Maynard, said the FBI agent didn’t attempt to stop the terror attack, the AP report read.

“This was not an unbiased investigation by the FBI to determine the truth, but a rush to judgment to get a conviction and to cover up the FBI’s own ineptness and misdeeds,” Maynard wrote.

The FBI is the lead investigative agency probing what led Shansud-Din Jabbar, 42, to carry out the New Orleans attack in the early morning hours on New Year’s Day. Given their history of foreknowledge of such incidents, can they really be counted on to do a fair and impartial investigation? As seems to be the case lately, dead men tell no tales, and just as the man who shot at President-elect Trump was taken out, so too was Jabbar.

Honduras Threatens To Evict US From Key Military Base Over Looming Mass Deportations
[ZERO] Honduran President Xiomara Castro has threatened to evict US military forces from a major base if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his promise to unleash a mass-deportation policy targeting illegal immigrants. An estimated five percent of the Honduras population lives in America.

"Faced with a hostile attitude of mass expulsion of our brothers, we would have to consider a change in our policies of cooperation with the United States, especially in the military arena," Castro said in a New Year's day address. In office since January 2022 and a member of the leftist Liberty and Refoundation (LIBRE) Party, Castro's husband Manuel Zelaya was president from 2006 until he was removed in a 2009 coup.

Castro's remarks were cheered by many, but some Honduran politicians hesitated to endorse the pre-emptive threat on a Trump administration that hasn't even taken power yet, while others condemned it. Among the detractors was likely November 2025 presidential challenger Jorge Calix, who said Castro's heated rhetoric put Honduras "in grave danger." Another potential challenger, Olban Valladares, said "[Castro] knows we don’t have the ability to threaten the United States in any way, that the damages it would cause Honduras would be terrible."
Another charity state.
Like other Latin American countries, Honduras has a huge financial interest in keeping its huge population of illegal emigrants inside the United States -- the money they send back to families inside Honduras accounts for up to 25% of the country's economy, the New York Times reports.

Las Vegas bomber left a 'manifesto' about the East Coast drones, and FBI believes it's real
[WorldNetDaily] A shocking incident unfolded at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day when a cybertruck exploded at the property.

As federal authorities scramble to piece together the details, an alleged email from Master Sgt. Matthew Livelsberger, a U.S. Army Green Beret, has brought the incident into sharper focus.

The email, purportedly sent just days before the explosion, claims to expose hidden military operations and warns of escalating threats to national security.

Livelsberger revealed on the email that the FBI was tracking him for attempting to be a whistleblower.

#7  Gravitic propulsion.

What you humans call "gravity" is simply the curvature of space-time. Distort space-time appropriately and things "fall" in the direction you want them to go. Conceptually, it is quite simple. However, doing so is left as an exercise for the Reader.

#8  re: #3 Gravitic propulsion.

Gravitic propulsion is real easy to achieve. One example of Gravitic propulsion is that of a person standing on top of a high mountain cliff and jumping off it. That person will find him/herself increasing speed until terminal velocity is reached. Landing however still is a problem and work is being tone to improve the ability to land safely. (Parachute, giant inflatable cushions and such.)

An somewhat less radical example is the 'plywood derby' style race cars, often driven by kids in unpowered cars made pf plywood and such which move solely under gravity.

Then there's fixed wings gliders and hang gliders, which use gravity for motion and rising air currents to remain in the air.

Examples abound...

Colorado School Administrator Fired Amid Child Pornography Allegations Found Dead
[Federalist] David Weiss, the fired Colorado school administrator at the center of a criminal investigation kept secret by authorities, was found dead, and the county sheriff’s office finally clarified that he was under investigation for allegedly possessing child pornography materials.

Weiss, the former chief of staff of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), was reported dead by the sheriff’s department in Washington County, Maryland, on Jan. 1. An investigation into the circumstances of his death remains underway. The sheriff’s office said he "was found dead around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning" and his death is believed to be a suicide. At the time of his death, Weiss was reportedly away from his Colorado home visiting family in Maryland.

Weiss was fired last month under unknown circumstances, and parents in the county sought clarification from the school district about why he had suddenly been fired and a criminal investigation opened. The school district refused to answer their questions, with multiple parents telling CBS News that the district terminated Weiss abruptly and without explanation, leading to a "lack of trust" in the school administrators.

Upon Weiss’s death, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department finally disclosed that the investigation was into possession of child pornography material. According to CBS, the criminal investigation is still ongoing, despite Weiss’s death.

The problem with that is all the non-subject matter (white guilt, DEI, etc.) that they're required to teach now. Almost takes more time to teach than the actual course materials.

That and the 'canned' classroom materials that are required by the district (and the unions so that no knowledge of the subjects is actually required), therefore that no actual objective teaching or innovation by the teacher is allowed anymore.

The trailing daughters went to one of the better public school districts in the state of Ohio (also the biggest non-city district, which is why they can afford to offer all sorts of extras that kick up their ranking). The td’s elementary school was one of many in the district that had a Department of Education blue ribbon, with extra awards for the PTA-run science program. But the reason our engineer/scientist/health profession parents got involved was because one of our engineer moms noticed that the top sixth grade teacher was teaching the electricity unit wrong — specifically she was reversing the definitions of direct and indirect current, which meant the experiment meant to show the difference didn’t work. The parents got together and got a grant for lab supplies (Toyota used to have a wonderful science grant program in the 1990s, but surely other companies could be persuaded if they aren’t still doing it), got permission to turn a spare classroom into a dedicated science lab, got agreement on curriculum-appropriate lesson plans for each grade, and took over. We allowed the teachers to keep the kids in order, but we made sure the subject matter was taught truly. ;-)

Mexican President Changes Mind on Receiving Deported Migrants from Other Countries
The unstoppable force meets a moveable object.
[Breitbart] Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum appears to have changed her mind and warmed to the concept of receiving migrants from other countries who are expected to be deported by the Trump administration later this month.

During her daily news conference on Friday, Sheinbaum claimed that Mexico and the U.S. could collaborate on cases where migrants are deported to Mexico instead of being returned to their countries of origin. The Mexican politician said that Mexico could receive migrants from certain countries or ask the U.S. for compensation to return them to their home countries.

During the news conference, Sheinbaum claimed that Mexico has a plan to receive newly deported migrants and hinted that details were still to be worked out with the United States, the AP reported. These new claims directly contradict prior statements from the Mexican president, who had publicly claimed that she would oppose the Trump administration and fight the expected increase in deportations.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump claimed that upon taking office, his government would deport a large number of migrants. As Breitbart Texas reported, Sheinbaum’s government is preparing border cities and states for receiving newly deported Mexican citizens. However, the Mexican president previously claimed that her government would not accept migrants from other countries.

Second Utah DHS Agent Charged in Illegal ‘Bath Salts' Scheme
[Breitbart] Officials arrested a second Department of Homeland Security agent in Salt Lake City, Utah, who is accused in an illicit drug case involving evidence belonging to the department.

The special agent recently arrested was identified as Nicholas Kindle, whose job it was to investigate illegal narcotics trafficking, Fox News reported on Saturday.

Kindle’s arrest came three weeks after Special Agent David Cole was arrested. Cole has been accused of being Kindle’s co-conspirator.

In a statement regarding Cole on December 18, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, who is head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, said, “A drug dealer who carries a badge is still a drug dealer — and one who has violated an oath to uphold the law and protect the public.”

The alleged scheme reportedly brought in upwards of $300,000. The suspects allegedly pushed a confidential informant to be a middleman in the scheme .
“Today’s indictment reflects the department’s commitment to holding accountable law enforcement officers who engage in criminal conduct, because no one is above the law,” she added.

The suspects are charged with felony drug distribution conspiracy. In addition, Kindle “also faces a charge of conspiracy to convert property of the U.S. government for profit,” the Fox article stated. Both men have had their Homeland Security credentials suspended. However, they have not yet been fired from their jobs.

The Fox report continued:

Prosecutors accuse Kindle and Cole of abusing their positions to acquire illegal drugs known as “bath salts” from Homeland Security evidence and from other law enforcement personnel, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, falsely claiming that they would use the drugs for legitimate investigations.

The pair allegedly began stealing drugs from evidence and lying to fellow agents about the reason for gathering them in 2021. Kindle and Cole also allegedly stole thousands of dollars in cash, a diamond ring and a Peruvian antiquity from evidence.

So-called “bath salts” are not heroin, cocaine, or methamphetamine, but the substance is damaging to a person’s health, Criminal Defense Attorney Clayton Simms told Fox 13 in December.

“It’s similar to methamphetamine in terms of effects,” he explained:

“Bath salts” can be sniffed, snorted, used orally, smoked, or injected, according to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The Fox report noted the two men are accused of selling the drugs between 2022 and 2024 to an individual whom they permitted to resell the drugs with no consequences.

The alleged scheme reportedly brought in upwards of $300,000. The suspects allegedly pushed a confidential informant to be a middleman in the scheme and set up meeting locations via an encrypted messaging app.

When the informant’s lawyer alerted the U.S. Attorney in Utah to the situation, the FBI opened an investigation in October, tracking the suspects and recording several instances when drugs were sold to the informant in the case, per the Fox report.

Government Corruption
Coronavirus Timeline ‘Giant Scandal to Subvert' Trump
[Breitbart] Officials knew about the coronavirus breakout in the fall of 2019 — sooner than they claim — and the biotechnology used to create the virus developed in the U.S. and was then exported to China, Dr. Andrew Huff, author of The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History, said on Breitbart News Saturday.

Huff walked through some of the revelations, stating that “when you really boil this down, most of the biotechnology, or the advanced technology that was used to engineer SARS-CoV-2, was developed in the United States – primarily at the University of North Carolina with Dr. Ralph Baric – and illegally exported to the Chinese.”

“So there’s so many different crazy facets of this story … The recent development just two weeks ago, there’s an article published in The Sun which shows that senior intelligence officials had informed senior Pentagon officials that the disease had been spreading in China in early October 2019,” he said, noting that this is not the same timeline the public was offered.

“If you look at what the U.S. government had been told, telling us, what Dr. Anthony Fauci had been telling us, Dr. Birx and all these corrupt individuals, was that this disease started spreading on the planet in December 2019,” he said, explaining that the timeline is simply not true.

Huff said he used to work in the “classified space of developing intelligence tools for infectious diseases, specifically.” If one looks at the proper chain of command and how long it would take that information to work through the proper channels to be validated, “it really looks like the disease started spreading in late August, early September, 2019.”
Kinda the classic 'asian flu' cycle
“So what we really have here is a giant scandal to subvert the President of the United States at the time: Donald Trump,” Huff said.

“So what the heck were all these Pentagon and intelligence officials doing? Why wasn’t the president notified? And really, you know, you step back and said, look at what is this. It’s treason. And I’m really excited for RFK to come to office,” he said, predicting there will be accountability for all of the corrupt health, intelligence, and health security officials that were involved in the giant coverup.

Further, Huff explained that a preemptive pardon of Dr. Anthony Fauci would essentially implicate everyone.

“At best, Dr Fauci is guilty of 25 million counts of negligent criminal homicide. So they knew that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was a leaky lab, but they allowed the research to go on. They illegally exported the technology. They didn’t have the proper safety controls in place from a risk management perspective on the United States side and with the contractors involved with this research,” he said, adding, “And on top of it, you’re giving advanced biotechnology to an enemy of the United States.”

“All of this is illegal. … So in U.S. law, if the president issues a pardon to someone, and the person accepts the pardon, it’s an admission of guilt of the crimes. And if you look at all the individuals involved with the cover up, the export of this technology, that is a violation of the RICO Act. And you can use, you know, basically the same kind of criminal process and prosecution that they use against mobsters to go after someone like Anthony Fauci and all his conspirators,” he continued.

“So even if they pardon Anthony Fauci, if he accepts the pardon, it then incriminates everyone involved in the RICO, and they’re all guilty. So you know, if they go and they pardon Anthony Fauci with a blanket pardon, he accepts it, well, he condemns everyone else in the government who’s, who is involved in this operation,” Huff added.

NASA Discovered Planet Bigger Than Earth With A Gas That Is "Only Produced By Life"
[ZeroHedge] Imagine staring at the night sky, knowing that somewhere out there, a world exists where the air holds the faint whispers of life—a clue so rare and extraordinary that it could rewrite our understanding of the cosmos. NASA’s latest discovery might just be that world: a planet larger than Earth, shrouded in a gas that, on our own planet, is only produced by living organisms.

What does it mean for humanity if this alien gas signals the presence of life beyond Earth? Could this discovery be the first step toward answering one of our oldest and most profound questions: Are we truly alone in the universe?

THE PLANET: BIGGER, MYSTERIOUS, AND FULL OF PROMISE
Orbiting a distant star in a quiet corner of the galaxy, this newly discovered planet captivates astronomers with its sheer scale and unique characteristics. Towering over Earth in both mass and diameter, it has been dubbed a “super-Earth” due to its size and rocky composition. Yet, what truly makes this planet extraordinary is its position within the “Goldilocks zone,” a delicate orbital range where temperatures are just right for liquid water—a crucial ingredient for life as we know it—to exist. This tantalizing detail has elevated the planet from another exoplanet in the vast catalog of discoveries to one of the most intriguing celestial bodies observed in recent years.

Unlike Earth’s picturesque landscape of oceans, continents, and clouds, this exoplanet’s atmosphere presents an enigmatic profile. Early observations suggest a thick, possibly turbulent atmospheric layer rich in gases that are not yet fully understood. Among these, however, one chemical signature has stunned scientists—a gas that, on Earth, is almost exclusively associated with biological processes. Its detection has turned this planet into more than just a geological wonder; it has become a potential beacon of life beyond our solar system. The mere presence of this gas raises profound questions: Is it possible that life, in some form, has taken root on this distant world? Or could there be unknown processes creating this chemical signature in ways we cannot yet imagine?

This remarkable find was made possible through the use of state-of-the-art telescopic technology, designed to detect minute changes in light and chemical signatures from planets light-years away. Over the years, NASA has identified thousands of exoplanets, many of which have hinted at habitability, but few have displayed such promising signs of life as this discovery. The scale and conditions of this planet make it a cosmic enigma—a riddle begging to be solved. For scientists and dreamers alike, it represents more than a distant world; it’s a keyhole through which we may glimpse answers to one of humanity’s greatest mysteries: Are we alone?

Britain
Ignoring Rape-Gangs: The Road To Hell Is Paved With Ass-Covering Cowardice
[ZeroHedge] It can be true.

Many are the kind words that have been spoken at the worst possible time. Many are the charitable causes that have had the opposite effect to that which was intended.
But it can also be too kind. In 2015, the historian Tom Holland, reflecting on the Rotherham grooming gangs, posted:

The true nightmare of #Rotherham is that the motives of those who turned a blind eye, however monstrous the consequences, were indeed noble.

“It wasn’t the indifference that was noble,” he clarified, “But the concern not to demonise a minority. Caring for the weak. The Christian thing.”

Amid renewed interest in the subject of grooming gangs, this week, Mr Holland has received a lot of criticism. He replied:

My position remains:

  • The authorities have a responsibility to preserve good race relations.

  • This is a noble goal.

  • In the context of the grooming gangs, this goal resulted in fatefully wrong decisions being taken.

  • 10 years on, the tragedy of this is even more evident

To be clear, I am a fan of Holland’s, and am quite aware — unlike some of his fiercer critics — that he is not claiming that the failure to stop the rape and abuse was noble but that it sprang from a misplaced noble impulse.

But the fact remains that this is outright wrong.

The officials in Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford and elsewhere did not have a high-minded concern for social cohesion — they had a selfish and small-minded desire not to rock the boat.

In defence of Holland, the author and lecturer Adrian Hilton wrote:

He isn’t speaking about individual motives, but social virtue, and he is absolutely right: the King’s peace—pax regis—is a noble pursuit. You can cavil with his hierarchy of nobleness, but public order is indeed a noble pursuit. And so is child safeguarding.

Obviously, when a concern for “public order” is enabling mass child rape, “public order” is not the virtue that it might have been. If my concern with litter in the park is causing me to hurl abandoned puppies into the bin, that “social virtue” has warped into something perverse. Still, Hilton is hinting towards that with his reference to a “hierarchy of nobleness”, so I’ll ask again — to what extent was that a motivation?

Now, it is true that officials were concerned about public order. Turning to page 112 of the independent inquiry into the grooming gangs in Telford, for example, one finds:

Between 2006 to 2008, senior management within the Council were concerned that allegations about Asian male involvement with CSE in Wellington had the potential to start a “race riot” …

But what else does one find? One finds the fear of “complaints of racism” and of being “politically incorrect”. That doesn’t sound noble to me — it sounds cowardly and self-centred. Indeed, it makes it sound like the concern with public order had less to do with virtuous ideals than with protecting their careers and their institutions. There is a difference between being concerned with peace for its own sake and being concerned with peace because your arse is on the line if there turns out to be violence.

Yet the failure to stop the rapes had many causes — and they don’t get any nobler. In the Jay Report into the grooming gangs in Rotherham, for example, we hear appalling details about the classism and misogyny of police officials. According to one witness, the attitude of some police officers was that the victims were “undesirables” who could not be trusted.

“Police weren’t arsed with us, really,” said one victim who was key to the belated investigations in Rochdale, “They don’t give a fuck when you’re not from a wealthy background.”

Then there is the whiff of outright corruption — the laptops and documents that were stolen in Rotherham, with, in the latter case, “no signs of a forced entry to the key-coded and locked security doors”.

Whatever went missing, one doubts that it was evidence of a sincere concern for the public good.

Again, the desire to explain a sin is not the same as the desire to excuse it. I am not suggesting that Messrs Holland and Hilton are anything but appalled by the failure to stop the rapists. But it is a mistake to ennoble that failure. That failure was not just tragic but actively wicked and it is important to appreciate that if appropriate accountability is going to be achieved.

The road to Hell is not always paved with good intentions. Some of its paving stones are also cowardice, venality and spite.

CA AG moves closer to blocking Huntington Beach's voter ID law ahead of 2026
[JustTheNews] Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill banning voter identification requirements in the state in 2024, but it did not take effect until the beginning of this year.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is one step closer to securing a ban on requiring voter identification to vote after the Orange County Superior Court granted the state’s request for an appealable order.

Huntington Beach amended its city law to include Measure A which requires voter identification to vote at the polls at all municipal elections beginning in 2026. However, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill banning voter identification requirements in the state in 2024, but it did not take effect until the beginning of this year.

After Huntington Beach’s law was passed, Bonta sued the city, but the California Superior Court ruled that it was too soon for a lawsuit.

“The Court finds that this matter is not ripe for adjudication, as [the change to] the City’s Charter is permissive and discretionary in character, and thus currently presents no conflict with state elections law,” ruled California Superior Court Judge Nico Dourbetas.

However, Bonta requested the appeal, saying that it is important the case is settled with plenty of time before the 2026 midterm elections.

“With preparations for the 2026 elections beginning late next year, we want and need a state appellate court to weigh in expeditiously,” Bonta said. “When that happens, we are confident that we will prevail.”

Now that Bonta has been granted the appeal, he will be making the case that Huntington Beach’s voter identification policy is unlawful. In Bonta’s request for entry of judgment, he said that he respectfully disagreed with the earlier order and sought the appealable order as soon as possible in order to resolve the case before the 2026 midterm elections.

“We sought, and have now secured, an appealable order from the Orange County Superior Court,” Bonta said. “We look forward to filing our appeal and making our case before the California Fourth District Court of Appeal that Huntington Beach’s voter ID policy is unlawful.”

Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber found that the appeal was warranted and disagreed with the ruling because there was no evidence cited that fraudulent voting occurs regularly in Huntington Beach or that an election has ever been compromised in the city because of a lack of voter identification. Additionally, Bonta noted that California residents are already required to verify their identity when they register to vote.

“Measure A is a solution in search of a problem,” Weber said. “In California, we champion people’s voices, we do not suppress them. We encourage participation in our democracy, we do not burden it. We will continue to challenge the city's action which violates state law.”

The Orange County Superior Court is now entering an appealable order and Bonta will soon file his appeal.

Yakut fighter who defeated Ukrainian in hand-to-hand combat calls for remaining human
[Regnum] Yakut fighter of the Russian Armed Forces Andrei Grigoriev, who defeated a Ukrainian soldier in hand-to-hand combat in the village of Trudovoye in the DPR, said that in any situation it is necessary to remain human and maintain humanity. His words are quoted by Channel Five.

“We are all people and in any situation we must be people, humanity comes first,” he noted.

Grigoriev specified that he fought to the last, because he clearly understood that only one person would emerge victorious from this fight. At the same time, he said that he won due to better combat training, despite the fact that the Ukrainian outweighed him.

"They say: "Go check!" But no one dared to go in. And this woman says: "He definitely didn't survive without medical help. He somehow got there yesterday, we hit him with drones," the WarGonzo Telegram channel quotes the Yakut attacker as saying.

The Tragedy of One Village. How Destroyed Toshkovka in the LPR Survives
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Mikhail Zakharov

[REGNUM] When Russian troops, liberating the LPR, approached Toshkovka at the end of May 2022, the village was literally packed with VSAS soldiers and Ukrainian fighters of all stripes. Snipers, mortarmen and machine gunners sat in trenches and dugouts, and well-trained barrier detachments stood behind them. At the same time, green foliage hid the VSAS soldiers, who were scanning the plain from drones.

The fighting was very heavy, the embittered Ukrainians did not spare anyone. The village was then squeezed between two heights: on one side - a mountain from the mine, on the other - five-story buildings on a hill. From these heights, local residents were fired at with Czech mortars.

They shot at houses, outbuildings, equipment, and car garages. They destroyed stores, the Community Center, the library, the school, the post office, and the village monument to Soviet soldiers.

"Shells were flying into houses and into cellars. My car was burned, my dacha was destroyed, here a house was destroyed," local resident Eduard told IA Regnum about the horrors of that summer.

During the shelling, 15 civilians were killed.

"They were buried in vegetable gardens, in courtyards. There was no opportunity to bury them in the cemetery under the shelling," Yulia Kozhevnikova, head of the headquarters of the Committee of Families of Warriors of the Fatherland (KSVO) of the LPR, tells IA Regnum about the terrible days for the village. She has been regularly visiting Toshkovka since the summer of 2024.

The capture of the village opened up operational space and allowed the Russian Armed Forces to approach the strategically important Lisichansk from the southeast.

After the liberation of Toshkovka, traces of the war crimes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were visible everywhere. Almost all the houses were damaged or destroyed, NATO shells were sticking out of the ground. Along the forest belt, burnt-out cars lay flattened by heavy equipment. Retreating, Ukrainian militants mined the settlement. In addition, the mine around which the life of the village was built was flooded.

But some locals refused or did not want to leave. They still remain: there are now just over a hundred people in Toshkovka. People survive without electricity and water, and they barely make it along the broken road to the nearest store in the neighboring town. But they do not despair, they support each other with all their might and sincerely hope that their native village will soon be restored.

A POPULOUS, WEALTHY VILLAGE
Toshkovka is an agglomeration of several settlements, where miners lived mainly with their families. In 1935, the Toshkovskaya mine began operating here, becoming one of the underground mines that brought the Donbass fame as an all-Union boiler room.

During the Great Patriotic War, the mine was flooded. Only after the liberation of Ukraine did the mining industry of Luhansk region gradually begin to revive. In 1950, Toshkovskaya resumed operations.

Year after year, the mine produced more and more coal, and Toshkovka grew nearby. The miners received decent wages, the settlement was populous - several thousand people, and quite prosperous. Toshkovka had a kindergarten, a hospital, several stores, and a club.

In 2014, after the creation of the LPR, the village found itself "on the other side" - under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the 2019 census, 4,031 people lived in Toshkovka.

DESIRES AND DREAMS
Since the summer of 2022, the village has been living without water and electricity, heating, pharmacies and shops. Students do not go to the destroyed school, and the local hospital lies in ruins. Of the former population of Toshkovka, only a little more than a hundred people remain in the village, including 11 children. People are trying with all their might to establish their lives among the ruins.

Returning to normal life is not easy for the village, because even getting to Toshkovka is difficult: the road is very damaged, local resident Angela Bakitko tells IA Regnum. The road will most likely be repaired after the fighting is over, the woman believes.

“Our school is in Zolotoe (a city in the LPR. — Ed.), but the school bus doesn’t pick up our children because the road is very bad,” Angela sadly shares.

The villagers are very hopeful that their power supply system will be repaired, and that after the light comes back, there will be work in Toshkovka - at least at the restored substation. After all, the locals, many of whom are already elderly, simply have nothing to go to work in Pervomaysk, says Yulia Kozhevnikova.

The villagers' dream is that the Toshkovskaya mine will start working again. This will allow the locals to earn a decent living, as before.

"Due to the military actions, investors are afraid to come in. If the mine were opened, we would have a lot of jobs," Angela Bakitko is sure.

THERE IS STILL A LOT OF WORK AHEAD
In any case, the locals do not lose their spirit and are glad that Russia has come to them.

“People were waiting for us, helping our soldiers when they came in and liberated Toshkovka, despite how much the village had suffered,” says Yulia Kozhevnikova.

The first request of the locals, she recalls, with which the villagers addressed the public, was to restore the monument to the soldier of the Great Patriotic War. They managed to quickly find patrons who made a new monument.

Volunteers are very helpful. From the first days after the liberation of the village, they have been bringing food and water, medicine, clothing and generators to local residents, which are essential, especially with the onset of cold weather.

“Of course, we try to support the locals, we bring doctors to the village,” Kozhevnikova continues her story. “We are constantly in touch with people.”

Yulia adds that now, in addition to other concerns about the villagers, she has a desire to make a memorial complex in Toshkovka to the soldiers who died a heroic death during the liberation of the settlement. At the same time, the main dream of the public, volunteers and the residents of the village themselves, of course, remains the opportunity to see Toshkovka flourishing and populous again.

"There are people here. There is a great desire to restore everything and not move anywhere. Because many were born here. Their children and grandchildren were born here. And here everything can be different," says the head of the Committee of Families of Warriors of the Fatherland, Yulia Belekhova, who also regularly visits the village.

However, it must be acknowledged that local residents, volunteers and regional authorities still have a lot to do to return the village to a full life.

"People want to come back," says Yulia Kozhevnikova. "Those who left during the evacuation are ready to return, but, unfortunately, today there are no conditions for normal life in the village."

Biden Awards Presidential Freedom Medals to Hillary, Soros and others
More names added to this story from yesterday. The logic of most of these escapes me. Last year President Biden presented one of these to Representative Nancy Pelosi, no longer Speaker of the House. I imagine Dr. Jill regrets that now, on behalf of her husband.
[MSN] WASHINGTON ― President Joe Biden on Saturday named former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and billionaire political activist and philanthropist George Soros recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, part of a group of 19 people selected for the nation's highest civilian honor.

Also, U2 frontman Bono, actor Michael J. Fox, actor Denzel Washington, chef José Andrés and William Sanford Nye, better known as television's "Bill Nye the Science Guy.", soccer player Lionel Messi of Argentina, NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson and a few others.
---------------
In previous years he awarded, among others, Al Gore, former Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, John Kerry, soccer player and activist Megan Rapinoe and UMW President Richard Trumpka.

Biden's handlers, having done so, have just made the Presidential Freedom Medal a low ball political decoration.

It is no longer a medal that just honors those that have done something great and meaningful for the citizens of the United States of America.

Which gets me back to what I suggested yesterday.
Stopping all OUTGOING Presidents who lost their re-election. From flooding their exit with awards, pardons, and agenda driven executive orders to satisfy their political party and certain elites.

Make any president do it before their Nov. re-election, that way we know and vote on his list of deeds or misdeeds.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Man charged with plotting to kill Justice Kavanaugh attempts to have evidence thrown out of court
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Nicholas Roske, the man accused of attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022, is seeking to suppress statements he made to Sherlocks, claiming they were obtained through warrantless searches and seizures that violated his constitutional rights.

On June 8, 2022, Roske contacted 911 near Justice Kavanaugh's Maryland home, stating he was experiencing suicidal and homicidal thoughts and required psychiatric help. His sister, whom he had texted that he loved her, had also urged him to contact law enforcement.

According to court records, when a Maryland police officer arrived, Roske was questioned without being read his Miranda rights. While his rights were later given to him at the cop shoppe, Roske's attorneys claim he was not in the mental state to voluntarily and knowingly waive those rights, per the Washington Times.

''While federal agents advised Mr. Roske of his rights and obtained his signature on a rights-waiver form, this waiver was not made voluntarily and intelligently. At the time, Mr. Roske was acutely suicidal, visibly exhausted, and had repeatedly expressed his need for psychiatric care,'' the filing said.

Roske's legal team also claims that searches of his pockets and belongings violated his Fourth Amendment rights. During the 911 call, the dispatcher advised him to set his bag, which contained a firearm, away from him. He complied, placing the bag roughly 20 yards away and informing officers about its contents. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
Roske contends that subsequent searches of his possessions were conducted without a warrant and are therefore a violation of his rights.

Previously deported illegal immigrant arrested for stabbing 86-year-old man in Oregon grocery store parking lot
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] An undocumented Democrat located in Portland was arrested last month after allegedly stabbing an 86-year-old man during an attempted carjacking at a Fred Meyer grocery store in Clackamas County, Oregon and had previously deported from the US.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jesus Ascencio-Molina, reportedly stabbed the elderly victim multiple times as he unloaded groceries from his vehicle. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the victim told law enforcement that when the suspect failed to carjack him, he bravely ran away on foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

After getting a description of the suspect from nearby witnesses who saw him flee, law enforcement was able to find and arrest Ascencio-Molina at a nearby apartment complex. He has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Ascencio-Molina is an illegal Mexican national who was previously deported from the United States in 2013, according to a 2018 report from the Daily Caller. He also has a lengthy criminal record in Oregon, including a 2018 arrest for an alleged attempted murder involving a nail gun—a case that was ultimately dismissed by a judge. Similarly, a theft charge against him in 2016 was also dismissed.

Despite his immigration history, Oregon's status as a sanctuary state restricts local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confirmed this policy, with a spokesperson explaining, "State law prohibits us from inquiring specifically about place of birth or immigration status.''

"Jesus Ascencio-Molina was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail and is being held without bail on charges of Robbery in the first degree, Assault in the first degree, Unlawful use of a weapon, and Attempted murder in the second degree,'' a release from the police stated.

MSNBC host blames US Armed Forces for 'terrorism in this country'
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell blamed American military personnel for terrorism in the United States over illegal immigrants who have flooded through the southern border in recent years, some of whom have ties to terrorism and violent gangs, per CBP data.

"The simple fact is, this country has suffered more deadly terrorism at the hands of American-born citizens who are veterans of the United States military than people who have crossed into this country at the southern border," O'Donnell said during a segment on Thursday. "It is very clear from the evidence that if you want to worry about terrorism in this country, the United States Army is a much bigger problem than the southern border."

O'Donnell's remarks stem from the New Orleans terrorist attack on New Year's Day, which was carried out by Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a Muslim who authorities say had joined ISIS. Jabbar has been accused of killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 30 others after driving a vehicle into a crowd of revelers.

While US officials have warned of an increase in terror threats as a result of the Biden administration's open border policies, with leaked CBP data revealing that Border Patrol encountered more than 70,000 special interest aliens between 2021 and 2023, O'Donnell argued that American veterans have perpetrated more violence against the homeland than illegal immigrants, citing Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

"Timothy McVeigh parked a truck outside that building loaded with explosives in an act of homegrown American terrorism," O'Donnell said. "Timothy McVeigh's hatred of the American government was not tamed in any way by his service in the American military. So, too, with America's latest terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Eve, with an American military veteran driving a pickup truck through a crowd to murder 14 people."

"But when Donald Trump sees the type of terrorist attack that occurred in New Orleans, he doesn't remember Timothy McVeigh and, instead, he blames the criminals that he imagines are crossing the southern border," he continued.

In the hours immediately following the New Year's Day attack, President-elect Donald Trump reaffirmed his efforts to protect the nation's borders, outlining his concerns about the national security threat posed by unchecked illegal immigration.

'Draw your swords! Attack, march, march!': 105 years ago the 1st Cavalry Army was formed.
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

A useful article about a period of Russian military history that is mostly shrouded in politics.

by Yuri Aquilyanov

[RedStar] In 1919, the Civil War raged throughout the territory of the former Russian Empire. Troops of the Armed Forces of the South of Russia under the command of General A.I. Denikin launched a broad offensive on Moscow. General P.N. Wrangel's combined group captured Tsaritsyn (now Volgograd), and the cavalry corps of Generals K.K. Mamontov and A.G. Shkuro operated in the Voronezh region.

In order to combat the mounted masses of the Red Army, it was necessary to create something new, capable of opposing the professional cavalry, which consisted mainly of experienced cavalrymen of the Don and Kuban-Terek Cossack troops. This new formation was the 1st Cavalry Army - an operational-strategic association of the Red Army, designed to combat the enemy's mounted masses in the steppe expanses of southern Russia.

On November 17, 1919, the Revolutionary Military Council (RVS) of the Republic, at the suggestion of the RVS of the Southern Front, decided to create the 1st Cavalry Army, and already on November 19, the order for the troops of the Southern Front stated: "... the 1st Cavalry Corps of the Southern Front in its current composition is to be renamed the Cavalry Army of the RSFSR." S. M. Budyonny was appointed commander of the Cavalry Army. It included four cavalry divisions, a separate Caucasian special-purpose brigade, an armored motor detachment, four armored trains, and an air group (a total of 16,000–17,000 fighters).

The 1st Cavalry Army played a decisive role in the Donbass offensive operation. At the end of 1919, the Red Army faced a critical task: to liberate the Donetsk coal basin; the republic’s economy was in dire need of coal. On December 12, the Revolutionary Military Council of the Southern Front set the tasks for its troops: the 1st Cavalry Army, which, together with the 9th and 12th rifle divisions attached to it, constituted the front’s strike group, was to advance on the Donbass and cut off the Volunteer Army’s retreat routes to the Don region.

The battle for the Donbass began on December 25, 1919. On the approaches to Donbass, the strike group dealt a stunning blow to Denikin's forces and immediately captured the crossings over the Seversky Donets. The 1st Cavalry Army routed the enemy's cavalry group consisting of the cavalry corps of Mamontov, Shkuro and Ulagay. On January 1, 1920, the troops of Budyonny's strike group and the 13th Army completely cleared Donbass of the enemy. They accomplished their task brilliantly. Soviet Russia received the largest coal and metallurgical base in the country at that time, with a population that overwhelmingly supported the Bolsheviks.

In January 1920, the 1st Cavalry Army, in cooperation with the troops of the 8th Army, liberated Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don. During these battles, the main forces of the White Guard Volunteer Army were routed, the enemy front was split into two parts, which allowed the Kuban and Don lands to be separated.

At the end of January 1920, the 1st Cavalry Army became part of the Caucasian Front. In February, operating in the Tikhoretsk direction, it carried out the Yegorlyk operation together with the 20th, 34th and 50th Rifle divisions of the 10th Army attached to it, during which the 1st Kuban Infantry Corps of the Whites and General Pavlov's cavalry group were routed.

In his book "Whites against the Reds", the white emigration activist Dmitry Lekhovich gave the following assessment of the commander of the 1st Cavalry Army: "He (S.M. Budyonny) turned out to be a resourceful and dashing cavalry commander, who knew how to grasp the main thing. For him, a horse was not so much a means of transportation as a weapon, and when he formed the cavalry corps, which later expanded into the First Cavalry Army, the horses in his units were the best, specially selected from the stud farms of Central Russia."

The 1st Cavalry Army, being a powerful strategic strike maneuver force as part of the Southwestern Front, made a significant contribution to the fight against the Polish intervention

The actions of the 1st Cavalry Army in the war with Poland in 1920 were a classic example of the use of a large cavalry unit for strategic purposes. In connection with the attack by Poland, the 1st Cavalry Army was transferred from the North Caucasus to Ukraine and included in the Southwestern Front. The cavalry made a thousand-kilometer march in mounted formation along the route Maikop - Rostov-on-Don - Yekaterinoslav - Uman. During the march, units of the 1st Cavalry Army routed rebel detachments operating in the rear of the troops of the Southwestern Front.

On May 25, 1920, the Cavalry Army concentrated in the Uman region. By this time, it numbered 16 thousand fighters, 304 machine guns and 48 artillery pieces.

The Front Command decided to break through the Polish front in Ukraine with the 1st Cavalry Army, initially directing the efforts of the Soviet troops of the Southwestern Front against the Kiev and then against the Odessa enemy group.

To accomplish this task, the 1st Cavalry Army was concentrated in a sector 10 kilometers northeast of Novo-Fastiv. Its combat formation was multi-echelon, which ensured the build-up of the force of the attack during the offensive. The 4th Cavalry Division was in the first echelon, with the 14th and 11th Cavalry Divisions positioned in a ledge behind its flanks, and the 6th Cavalry Division and Special Cavalry Brigade in the third echelon.

By the evening of June 3, the 1st Cavalry occupied the starting line for the offensive. It was raining during these days. The Polish command expected that the bad weather would prevent the Soviet troops from starting military operations. Nevertheless, on June 5, the 1st Cavalry Army, with a powerful blow on a narrow front, broke through the enemy's defenses in the Samgorodok-Snezhna sector, and on June 7 captured Zhitomir and Berdichev deep in the enemy's rear, causing a hasty retreat of all forces of the 2nd and 3rd Polish armies.

The Soviet offensive was so rapid that by the evening of the same day, the 1st Cavalry Army broke through north and east of Kazatin and reached the rear of the 3rd Polish Army. By the evening of June 7, the 4th Cavalry Division captured Zhitomir, destroying the Polish garrison and freeing seven thousand Red Army soldiers from captivity, who were returned to duty. On the same day, the 11th Cavalry Division captured Berdichev. In addition, the 1st Cavalry Army defeated the Polish cavalry group under the command of General Savitsky in the Belopolye region, which covered the left flank of the 6th Polish Army.

By June 8, Budyonny's men finally broke the resistance of the enemy troops concentrated in the Kazatin and Berdichev region. The depth of the 1st Cavalry Army's breakthrough into the rear of the Polish troops was 120-140 km. The Polish front in Ukraine was split into two parts. Having lost control of its troops, the Polish headquarters headed by Pilsudski, which was in Zhitomir, hastily redeployed to Novograd-Volynsky.

A participant in the White movement and later an émigré, Roman Gul, described the actions of the 1st Cavalry Army in the war with the Polish gentry in 1920: “This attack by the Scythian cavalry seemed like a catastrophe to Poland. The Budyonny men tore the enemy front with an 80-kilometer gap, and rushed headlong into the Polish rear, smashing and sweeping away everything in their path.”

Perhaps the most vivid picture of the moral impact of the Cavalry Army on the Polish bourgeois state was painted by Marshal Pilsudski himself. “However, these events had the strongest impact,” he wrote, “not on the front itself, but outside it, in the rear. Panic broke out in areas located even hundreds of kilometers from the front, and sometimes even in high headquarters, and spread deeper and deeper into the rear... A new weapon of struggle, which Budyonny's cavalry turned out to be for our troops, who were unprepared for this, became some kind of legendary, invincible force."

The 1st Cavalry Army, being a powerful strategic strike maneuver force as part of the Southwestern Front, made a significant contribution to the fight against the Polish intervention at the decisive stage of military operations, proved the viability of large cavalry units, their ability to solve problems of a strategic scale...

In May 1921, the 1st Cavalry Army was disbanded, but its headquarters remained until October 1923. The experience of the Civil War was further developed in the theory of Soviet military art in the interwar period. In the 1930s, when S.M. Budyonny headed the Red Army Cavalry Inspectorate, where combat regulations and instructions for cavalry actions in modern combat were actively developed.

During exercises in a number of military districts, the possibilities of creating and using cavalry-mechanized groups (KMG) in combat were studied as part of a front-line offensive operation.

The emergence of KMGs was due to the desire to combine the mobility of cavalry with the great striking force and high protection of the emerging tank and mechanized troops. The Red Army command worked out issues of close cooperation between cavalry, tank units, and aviation. KMGs were widely used during the Great Patriotic War. They were used primarily in forested and swampy, mountainous, and mountainous-desert terrain.

New High-Resolution Renderings Of China's 6th-Generation Tactical Fighter Bomber
Real or vapourware? And if real, is it as scary as Zero Hedge believes?
[ZeroHedge] China's ability to leapfrog current 5th-generation military aviation technology, like the West's F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, to 6th-generation fighters and fighter bombers, recently prompted Deutsche Bank analyst Scott Deuschle to issue an alarming note titled, "A Wake-Up Call for Sixth Gen."

On Dec. 26, footage of China's next-generation tactical fighter-bomber, expected to replace the Xi'an JH-7, surfaced on Chinese social media before appearing on X. The diamond-shaped wing design left military observers across the West stunned.

DB's Deuschle characterized China's rapid advancements in sixth-generation combat aircraft as a serious "wake-up call" for the United States Air Force. This development comes amid a race between the US, China, and Russia to produce fifth—and sixth-generation fighters, bombers, and hypersonic weapons.

"China has finished developing all planned 5th gen fighters. Hence, our 6th generation fighter will be moving along according to schedule," Zhao DaShuai, a member of the People's Armed Police Propaganda Bureau, recently noted on X.

In other words, China appears to have leapfrogged 5th-generation technology to 6th-generation technology, while the West sabotages its military capabilities with wokiesm and Marxist diversity and ESG climate change policies. The problem with the West is that Hollywood makes fantasy films about these sixth-generation jets.

China-Japan-Koreas
‘A Deadly Proving Ground’
The Formosa Air Battle was the largest air-sea battle of the Pacific war, marked by both strokes of luck and loss.

By Mike Fink

[USNI] The Battle of Leyte Gulf (23–26 October 1944) casts a long shadow. Considered the largest naval battle in modern history, it marked the end of the Imperial Japanese Navy as an effective fighting force and the beginning of the kamikaze campaign. However, this battle’s notoriety has overshadowed a key event that occurred less than two weeks earlier: the Formosa (present-day Taiwan) Air Battle, fought between 12 and 16 October.

Though still relatively unknown to general audiences of World War II history, the Formosa Air Battle was the single largest air-sea battle of the Pacific war. Japan committed a greater mass of airpower to this battle—1,425 aircraft over the course of one week—than anything the U.S. Navy had faced prior. In fact, the Japanese air force participating in the Formosa Air Battle was multiple times bigger than the carrier air formations encountered during the more well-known Battle of the Philippine Sea.1

For Fighting Squadron (VF) 18, a new squadron operating as part of the U.S. Navy’s Fast Carrier Task Force, Formosa was a deadly proving ground.2 Of its 47 original aviators, fewer than half had seen Japanese planes in the air prior to Formosa. An even smaller number had engaged in air-to-air combat. They did have one thing working in their favor, though: They had undergone extensive training under an instructor whose plane-handling skills were second to none.

His name was Cecil E. Harris. He was a quiet man, a South Dakota farm boy who left the family plot to become a schoolteacher during the prewar years. Though interested in flying from an early age, his mother had disallowed it “because it’s too dangerous.”3 He had to wait until college to enroll in civilian pilot training courses and subsequently undergo naval aviation cadet training. Once in the Naval Reserve, his fitness reports beamed that Harris was “an outstanding young pilot,” had “an exemplary manner,” showed “excellent judgment and initiative,” and was “well liked both by officers and men in the squadron.” He was leadership material through and through.4

The Navy’s second-ranking ace of World War II, Harris used the Hellcat’s ability to outperform Japanese fighters on the vertical plane to maximum effect.

Lieutenant Harris also was the only member of VF-18 who had been in a serious air battle before the squadron’s deployment on board the USS Intrepid (CV-11) in August 1944. He had been credited with destroying two Japanese A6M Zero fighters while stationed on Guadalcanal in the spring of 1943.5 Fortunately for “Fighting 18,” the squadron’s commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Edward “Murf” Murphy, valued experience and talent over considerations of rank. Harris was made flight officer and put in charge of training the squadron despite being outranked by several of his peers. According to Lieutenant (junior grade) Bryant “Wally” Walworth, Harris “worked his very fingers off” getting them up to speed.6

After more than six months of training in Hawaii and a month of combat operations on board the Intrepid, the greenhorns of Fighting 18 were as ready as they could be to undergo their trial by fire. There was a sense of foreboding about the Formosa operation. Lieutenant (junior grade) Charles “Punchy” Mallory wrote in his diary: “We received our briefing on Formosa and we may run into something big there.”7 Lieutenant Harris knew what was coming. It weighed on him. One of his responsibilities as flight officer was to draw up schedules for these operations, assigning men to what could be their last mission. Always leading from the front, Harris made sure to assign his division to the morning fighter sweep that would kick off the Formosa operation.

The Pacific sky was still “as black as the inside of your hat” when flight operations began at 0606 on 12 October.8 That did not seem to impede the Intrepid’s deck crews, who had the 16 F6F Hellcats assigned to the sweep airborne within 10 minutes. After grouping up with 20 additional fighters from nearby carriers in the Intrepid’s Task Group 38.2, the sweep proceeded beyond the destroyer screen out over the empty sea.

Bomb-laden Hellcats quickly made landfall, roaring over Formosa’s heavily forested coastline and mountainous interior. Skipper Murphy led the sweep into the Strait of Formosa before turning around to approach the target, Shinchiku (present-day Hsinchu), from the west. Dawn light twinkled off his Hellcats as they wheeled and turned together in tight formation like a flock of starlings.

Supervisor Matt Dorsey has called for immediate measures to address open-air drug usage, including at least 100 nightly arrests, involuntary holds, and mandatory treatment and detox. Dorsey, a former addict, stated in a letter dated Friday that city public safety agencies had 30 days to develop a plan of action.

The demand follows the ongoing drug-driven criminal activity on the quarter mile stretch of 6th Street in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, which has had high levels of open-air drug use and crime. Authorities estimate at least 200 people are lighting up illicit drugs in the area on any given night.

Dorsey said it is past time to confront the issue head-on, which is why he is advocating for mass arrests of drug users and placing them in "compulsory detox and treatment" to save their lives. He wanted to see no less than 100 arrests per night and accused the city of enabling drug addiction, according to the letter.

"Historically, most of the work that we're doing is focused on drug pushers, and I think that's something that needs to continue, but we also need to be making criminal justice interventions in public drug use," Dorsey told ABC 7 News. "We do need to be making arrests of drug users with an eye toward making sure that any criminal justice intervention we make is a medical and life-saving intervention."

Dorsey stated in the letter that the plan of intent would hold "those estimated to be engaging in drug-related lawlessness criminally accountable."

"As we begin the new year, new approaches are urgently needed to restore order to our streets, to diminish San Francisco's attraction as a destination city for drug use and drug dealing, and to make lifesaving interventions in behavior that's deadlier and more costly than ever before," said Dorsey, who acknowledged his journey recovering from drug addiction.

"I know I'm not alone among recovery community members in believing strongly in the life-changing possibilities of recovery and drug treatment - including court-mandated treatment. Like many other San Franciscans, in long-term recovery and otherwise, I think it's past time for our City to move boldly beyond practices that have amounted to drug enablism and neglectful cruelty," he wrote. Dorsey asked for an approach to "get drug-related offenders off the streets - and optimally into drug treatment - rather than simply moved to different streets."

#2  As much as drug arrests are needed in liberal run Metro's. QUOTA's violate a handful constitutional, civil rights and arrest rules.

Now think about applying it to other situations eg. JAN 6th type protests.

They will receive a citation which goes on their Permanent Record, a free ticket to detox, and then we turn them loose. If we were the Department of Natural Resources, we would call it "catch & release" - bag 'em, tag 'em and them run free.

UN accuses Israel of ceasefire breach; Hezbollah losing patience
[NEWARAB] The UN peacekeeping force in Leb
...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?...
accused Israel Saturday of a "flagrant violation" of the 2006 Security Council resolution that forms the basis of its November ceasefire with Hezbollah.

The statement from the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came as Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
warned the holy warrior group's patience with Israeli violations could run out before the end of the ceasefire's 60-day implementation timeframe.

The fragile truce, which took effect on November 27, has been marked by mutual accusations of violations from both sides.

"This morning, peacekeepers observed an (Israeli military) bulldozer destroying a blue barrel marking the line of withdrawal between Lebanon and Israel in Labbouneh, as well as an observation tower belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces immediately beside a UNIFIL position there," the peacekeeping force said.

"The (military's) deliberate and direct destruction of both clearly identifiable UNIFIL property and infrastructure belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces is a flagrant violation of Resolution 1701 and international law."

The force, which is represented on the panel overseeing the ceasefire's implemenation, called on "all actors to avoid any actions, including the destruction of civilian property and infrastructure, that could jeopardise the cessation of hostilities".

Under the terms of the ceasefire, the Lebanese army is to deploy alongside UN peacekeepers in the south as the Israeli army withdraws over a 60-day period.

Hezbollah is to withdraw its forces north of the Litani River -- some 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the border -- and dismantle any remaining military infrastructure in the south.

In late December, the UN peacekeeping force expressed concern at the "continuing" damage being done by the Israeli military in south Lebanon.

Detailing its latest air strikes in Lebanon on Thursday, the Israeli military said it was acting to remove any threat to Israel "in accordance with the ceasefire understandings".

Qassem said Hezbollah had decided to show patience, but warned that would not last indefintely.

"We have said that we are giving an opportunity to prevent Israeli violations and to implement the agreement, and we will exercise patience," he said, stressing: "This does not mean that we will wait for 60 days.

"The leadership of the resistance determines when to exercise patience, when to take initiative, and when to respond," he said.

Syrian forces detain Sednaya jail official amid Homs operation
[NEWARAB] Syrian forces have detained dozens of wanted figures from the former Assad regime during a security operation in Homs, including an official responsible for the cameras at the notorious Sednaya prison, where thousands of people were detained, tortured, and executed.

Mohmmed Noureddin Shalhoum is believed to have shut down the cameras and stolen documents from the prison before rebels took control of it and freed detainees, during a lightning offensive which saw the ouster of former President Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
on 8 December.

The New Arab's affiliate Syria TV reported that Shalhoum worked under his relative Hassan Shalhoum, the leader of a military formation known as the ''Lions of the Presidential Guard''.

During the rebel offensive they worked to withdraw all the regime checkpoints around Sednaya Prison before the rebels arrived.

They are also accused of firing on relatives of prisoners who arrived at Sednaya to search for their loved ones following the collapse of regime forces.

The security operation in Homs and surrounding areas also saw the arrest of Saher Naddaf, who is accused of taking part in massacres of civilians during the brutal Syrian conflict, which broke out in 2011.

The security forces also reportedly found a secret ammunition depot in the Zahraa area of Homs. Their operation is centred around the Abbasiya, Sabil, Zahraa, and Muhajirin districts of Homs.

The New Arab's sister site al-Araby al-Jadeed reported that around 40 regime officers and officials were detained, including some involved in the Karam al-Zeitoun massacre, which saw dozens of people killed by regime-affiliated Shabeeha thugs in central Homs in 2012.

Other officials arrested included Zakaria Abdul Qader, who worked at the central Deir al-Zour prison in eastern Syria.

In southern Syria, fighters affiliated with the former Assad regime clashed with rebel fighters in the town of Sanamein north of Daraa, Syria TV reported.

Also in Sanamein, local people found a mass grave which was reportedly over 10 years old, containing at least 20 bodies, near a military base belonging to the former regime.

Syrians divided as HTS grants military ranks to foreign fighters
[NEWARAB] The decision by Syria's interim authorities to grant a slew of senior military ranks to leaders of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS) and its allied factions, including non-Syrians, has sparked a wave of criticism and discontent - especially from former Syrian army officers who defected from the now deposed regime's forces during the early years of the Syrian revolution.

Criticism has centred heavily on the granting of military ranks to foreign HTS fighters, with some also questioning HTS-leader-turned de facto ruler of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa's right to unilaterally make the decision.

Concerns have also been raised around the competence of these fighters to hold such senior ranks, as none of them are graduates of recognised state-run institutions. Instead, they gained experience on the battlefield with various factions, where established rules and procedures adhered to by professional armies were never applied.

Action to integrate the factions involved in Syria's revolution is widely regarded as a necessary step to bring the security situation in the country under control and avoid repeating the experience of many Arab countries where cities were transformed into military garrisons and hubs of factional infighting.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
questions have remained as to the nature of the integration, who it will include, and how it will be implemented.

For instance, though many factions fall under the umbrella of the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
member, but not the most reliable...

-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), which was expected to integrate swiftly into a new military establishment built on the remnants of the regime's army, it appears the SNA has been excluded from any communication with the new administration, according to a report on 23 December.
Military titles for HTS leaders

Decision "No.8", published Sunday on the Telegram account of Sharaa's General Command, listed 49 people to be "promoted" to the ranks of Major-General, Brigadier General, and Colonel, as part of "developing and modernising the Syrian army".

Among those listed was the commander of HTS' military wing and recently appointed Minister of Defence in the transitional government, Murhaf Abu Qasra, who received the rank of Major-General.

Three ex-officers who defected from the Syrian army during the war were included in the list, as were multiple HTS commanders and those from other factions.

Non-Syrians awarded military ranks include Abdul Samriz Bashari (Albanian), Alaa Mohammed Abdul Baqi (Egyptian) and Ibnian Ahmed al-Hariri (Jordanian), who were granted the rank of Colonel. Rahman Hussein al-Khatib (Jordanian), Omar Mohammed Jaftchi (Ottoman Turkish) and Abdul Aziz Dawoud Khodabardi (from the Turkistani minority in China) were granted the rank of Brigadier General.

Some Syrian officer defectors who formerly held high ranks and have extensive military experience, and who were expected to be at the core of reorganising a new Syrian army, view the new promotions as a message that the new administration plans to rely on field commanders from the rebel factions to shape a unified national army for the country.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
they say rebuilding the army will need academic expertise which these field commanders lack - most of whom are from civilian backgrounds - despite their military and combat experience during the Syrian war.

'Shadows of October 7': Political calm in Israel threatens Netanyahu with an explosion
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] Israel entered the year 2025 in the conditions of a “besieged fortress” and fighting on several fronts at once.

At the same time, compared to the beginning of the year, the socio-political situation in the country has significantly leveled out. Israeli leaders managed to quell popular discontent with unpopular decisions, preventing a political crisis.

For some politicians – first and foremost for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – the outgoing year has been a triumph in many ways. The country’s position on the international stage has been strengthened, and Israelis intend to continue their “victorious march.”

However, upon closer examination it is clear that strengthening in some areas has provoked distortions in domestic political life. However, the Israeli establishment is trying not to notice them for now.

UNSINKABLE
The person of the Israeli Prime Minister has been the focus of most attention in the past year. By the end of 2024, Netanyahu had significantly strengthened his position - neither numerous spy scandals (in some of which the Prime Minister was involved) nor the break with his former allies - Benny Gantz and Yoav Galant - could "sink" him.

In addition, the prime minister managed to achieve the main thing: torpedo the creation of a commission to investigate the reasons for the successful breakthrough of Hamas into the territory of the Jewish state in October 2023. The investigation promised big problems not only for Netanyahu, but also for a number of his allies, which would have led to the dissolution of the current government.

In an attempt to fight back against the “October 7 theme,” Netanyahu carried out personnel purges in the Defense Ministry and special services (in particular, in military intelligence), and also launched the process of forming his own “personal intelligence,” transferring the Ifcha Mistabra unit to the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to Wikipedia, “The Devil's Advocate Unit" is a small unit in the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate. Its purpose is to evaluate intelligence assumptions and products in a professional and critical manner, including serving as the "Devil's advocate" or the "Ifcha Mistabra" function. This means examining unlikely scenarios and questioning common assumptions of the Research Department as well as proposing adversarial evaluations. The unit works as an independent part of the Research Department.
Thus, he not only prevented a possible consolidation of military officials against himself, but also demonstratively “punished those responsible” for the Hamas attack, thereby somewhat relieving public tension.

It is very difficult, at first glance, to reproach Netanyahu for miscalculations on external borders. The Israeli government considers itself the winner not only in Gaza, but also in Lebanon, where the ceasefire was established essentially on Tel Aviv's terms.

The Israelis' skillful use of the "Syrian turmoil" to expand their zone of control in the Golan Heights is also considered a plus. Tel Aviv makes it clear that it does not plan to simply leave the occupied territories.

Netanyahu also showed great foresight in his timely rapprochement with the Republicans in the United States, which, in light of Donald Trump's election victory, provided Tel Aviv with a vote of confidence from the White House, as well as support for the Israelis' regional ambitions.

Israel hopes that with Trump's support it will be able to inflict a strategic defeat on Iran and also continue to normalize relations with its Arabian partners. Both tasks are likely to become priorities for Tel Aviv in the coming year.

THE FATE OF THE NEGOTIATIONS
At the same time, the external success of the Netanyahu government is quite ephemeral. Beautiful slogans, sounding from the podiums, mask, but do not solve any of the problems that have accumulated in the country.

Israeli society is highly polarized. Living in a besieged fortress does not contribute to the country's economic prosperity, and the ongoing shelling of cities (including the capital's neighborhoods) provokes panic and defeatism, and alienates foreign partners.

Residents of the northern regions of the country are dissatisfied - despite statements about the defeat of Hezbollah, people are in no hurry to return to the border regions. No politician has yet undertaken to guarantee the "inviolability of the northern borders."

And given that a number of areas of the Israeli-Lebanese border are still considered a “zone of special attention” by the Israeli army, the return of internally displaced persons there does not seem possible even in 2025.

The issue of releasing hostages held by Israel's opponents also remains in limbo.

Both Hamas and official Tel Aviv periodically report on achieving a “fundamental breakthrough” in the negotiations, but do not back up these statements with anything.

And given the general unpredictability of Trump (the future main guarantor of the deal), the hostage agreement is hanging by a thread.

Of course, symbolic exchanges could happen at the beginning of the year – as a “gift” for Trump’s inauguration – but even the most optimistic politicians are not talking about a full return of the detainees.

Skeptics also point to Trump's desire to take into account, in addition to Israel, the interests of some of the Arab allies (for example, Saudi Arabia), and also to try to achieve a cautious détente with Iran. And here, Tel Aviv's overly belligerent position risks spoiling Washington's diplomatic game.

Israelis' dissatisfaction with the situation "on the distant frontiers" is compounded by other challenges - growing interethnic tensions and disagreements over economic and political reforms.

The government has so far preferred not to respond to internal problems, shifting the focus of attention to military and diplomatic victories, which is very dangerous.

Given the dynamics of public sentiment, the situation risks escalating to the limit in the first months of the new year, provoking a large-scale domestic political crisis.

FRIENDS AND ENEMIES
Another challenge for Netanyahu and his supporters is the gradual strengthening of the opposition. And this is not only about the “military wing” consisting of high-ranking retirees (including former defense ministers Benny Gantz and Yoav Galant) – the current prime minister is watching it very closely.

A much greater danger is the formation of an “opposition clique” from among the most ardent and irreconcilable Israeli politicians – Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich.

Both hawks advocate a tougher Israeli policy toward the Palestinians and Tel Aviv's "sole control" over the Gaza Strip. Ben-Gvir and Smotrich criticize Netanyahu for his "indecisiveness," viewing his attempts to balance the interests of other beneficiaries of the Gaza reorganization as weakness.

Considering that the parties represented by the hawks act as one of the “props” of Netanyahu’s coalition government, their transition to the opposition could seriously weaken the prime minister’s political stability.

Apparently, in 2025, Netanyahu will have to balance interests not only with opponents, but also with yesterday’s allies and like-minded people.

Otherwise, the triumphal march of the “most right-wing government” in Israel’s history risks ending as disastrously as the rise of its predecessor, the “most inclusive government” in history led by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid.

#1  Germany and Japan were defeated 80 years ago. The U.S. has maintained tens of thousands of military personnel in both countries every day since then. Every day for 80 years. With no end in sight on the horizon.

It seems that if the U.S. calls on Israel to leave areas it now controls, Israel should point at Germany and Japan, and politely reply, “You first.” The only people who could propose such a thing while maintaining a straight face would be pompous fools like tommyboy freidman or others setting around in air conditioned faculty lounges (financed by CCCP and Soros and Qatar) thousands and thousands and thousands of miles away.

Just saying.

The Sun recorded its second highest-class X-ray flare in a day
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Experts have registered the second highest class X flare on the Sun in a day, the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IAP) reported on January 4.

“At 15:48 Moscow time, an X1.8 flare was registered in the X-ray range in the sunspot group 3947 (N11E51),” the institution specified on its website.

The energy release process lasted 22 minutes. On January 4, an X1.1 flare was also recorded on the solar disk, which lasted 24 minutes.

Flares on this celestial body are divided into five classes depending on the power of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M and X. The last level is the strongest.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 3, the IGP reported an X1.2 flare on the Sun. Its duration reached 25 minutes. On the same day, the northern lights were observed in the Irkutsk region. Photos of this phenomenon were distributed by Internet users. It was also seen in Yakutia, Transbaikalia, Buryatia and other regions of the Far East. Experts explained this phenomenon by a powerful magnetic storm that hit the Earth on the night of January 2.

In July 2023, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly Petrukovich warned in a conversation with the Regnum news agency that powerful solar flares would continue until 2025. The expert specified that the star is experiencing a period of high activity, which repeats approximately every 11 years.

Scientists have recorded six powerful M and X class flares on the Sun
Six flares occurred on the Sun, one of which was of the most powerful class X. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).

“On January 4 at 01:41 (Moscow time) in the X-ray range in the sunspot group 3947 (N11E59) a flare X1.1 lasting 24 minutes was registered,” the report states.

The IPG also clarified that five more class M outbreaks were recorded.

Solar flares are divided into five classes depending on the radiation power. Level X is the highest. Class M is the fourth most powerful. Flares usually result in emissions of solar plasma, clouds of which, reaching the Earth, are capable of provoking magnetic storms on the planet.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 3, the IPG recorded the first flare of the highest class X in 2025. The institute noted that the energy release process was observed for 25 minutes.

On the morning of December 30, specialists registered two X-class solar flares. They were recorded in the western part of the solar disk. On the morning of January 1, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, reported that a G1-class magnetic storm ("weak") had begun on Earth. By the evening of that day, it had reached the G3 level, which is classified on a five-point scale as "strong."

Forecaster reports that the magnetic storm on Earth has ceased
The magnetic storm that began on Earth on the morning of Saturday, January 4, has ceased, said Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center.

Forecaster Leus reported that the magnetic storm on Earth has ceased
At the same time, short periods of weak magnetic storms cannot be ruled out in the next 24 hours: the Earth's magnetosphere will change in the range from unstable to slightly disturbed, the forecaster noted in his Telegram channel.

"The weak magnetic storm of class G1 that began on Earth this morning has ceased. The geomagnetic field is currently in a weakly disturbed state," Leus wrote.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, earlier on January 4, the Institute of Applied Geophysics reported that six flares occurred on the Sun, one of which was a powerful X-class flare.

Solar flares are divided into five classes depending on the radiation power. Level X is the highest. Flares usually result in emissions of solar plasma, clouds of which, reaching the Earth, are capable of provoking magnetic storms on the planet.

On January 1, Leus reported that a G1-class magnetic storm (“weak”) had begun on Earth. By the evening of that day, it had reached the G3 level, which is classified as “strong” on a five-point scale.

New Orleans Police will upgrade security for Super Bowl, Mardi Gras
[JustTheNews] In a letter released Friday afternoon, the New Orleans Police Department says there will be increased security presence in concert with other agencies in the French Quarter.

This comes a few days after a deadly terror attack killed 14 people and injured at least 35 on New Year's Day when a truck was driven into a crowd in the city's oldest neighborhood. The driver of the truck was also killed in a shootout with lawmen.

The letter by Officer Reese Harper, the department's director of communications, said Bourbon Street will be closed to vehicles from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. "to ensure the pedestrian mall remains a safe space for everyone." The city reopened Bourbon Street with heavy security on Thursday in time for the Sugar Bowl, which was delayed a day because of the terror attack.

The department also said additional crowd closures of side streets or major routes will be done as needed, depending on crowd size or special events. The letter also says the department will provide "timely updates" on street closures, traffic and other security measures.

One of those special events is the 59th Super Bowl at Caesar's Superdome on Feb. 9. It'll be the eighth time the Superdome has hosted the NFL's premier showcase.

Shamsud-Dim Jabbar, 42, an American citizen and U.S. Army veteran from Houston, rented the F-150 Lightning truck, the FBI said.

The FBI originally said on Wednesday that the agency thought "he wasn't acting alone," but now, officials say Jabbar didn't have any accomplices.

Jabbar drove into a group of revelers at 3:17 a.m. on New Year's Day and exited the truck, exchanging gunfire with New Orleans Police Department officers. He injured two of them, before Jabbar succumbed from his wounds, the FBI and local officials said.

The FBI said Jabbar had both a pistol and an AR-style rifle, both of which were listed as stolen. He also had improvised explosive devices, an Islamic State flag hanging from the tailgate and was equipped with body armor.

Investigative Committee has brought charges against two teenagers who planned a terrorist attack in Yekaterinburg
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Two teenagers who planned to commit a terrorist attack in crowded places in Yekaterinburg have been charged, the Russian Investigative Committee reported on January 4.

“Charges have been brought against a group of people for preparing a terrorist act, illegally manufacturing and carrying explosives and explosive devices, committed by prior conspiracy,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

According to investigators, two minors independently manufactured an explosive device and an electric detonator. One of the accomplices carried them in his backpack until the moment of detention. It is also reported that one of the defendants was involved in the arson of a police service car on December 22, 2024 on Chapaeva Street.

At the moment, investigators are establishing the involvement of the accused in the crimes.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 4, the FSB reported the arrest of four teenagers born in 2007 and 2008 for preparing an explosion in a crowded place in Yekaterinburg. They were found to have components of a homemade explosive device and communications equipment containing instructions for making the device.

A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 (“Preparation for a terrorist act”), Part 3 of Article 222.1 (“Illegal storage of explosives or explosive devices”), Part 2 of Article 223.1 (“Illegal manufacture of explosives or explosive devices”) of the Criminal Code.

Virginia nurse arrested for breaking bones of newborn babies in hospital NICU
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] A nurse in Virginia has been charged with malicious wounding and felony child abuse for allegedly breaking the bones of several premature babies at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond.

Erin Elizabeth Strotman, 26, has been arrested in connection to the abuse of multiple babies who had fractured bones as they were in the NICU of the medical center. The NICU has been forced to close as a result as police have conducted an investigation.

"The Henrico County Police Division is utilizing all available resources to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter," the police department commented on the case. "This involves reviewing dozens of videos from inside the NICU. As previously mentioned, detectives are re-examining the 2023 and 2024 cases as part of this broader investigation."

Strotman graduated as a nurse in 2019 and is originally from Virginia. After being employed at the hospital, police opened an investigation into mysterious fracture injuries of four babies that happened in the summer of 2023. Additionally, three more were hurt this year in the last few months.

One couple, Dominique and Tori Hackey, reached out to Virginia Child Services to inform the organization last year that one of their twin sons had suffered a broken tibia while in the NICU. At first, hospital workers attempted to say it could have been accidental
so they knew
until Child Services finished their investigation and revealed that their son Noah had suffered level 1 physical abuse while in the NICU's care.

A letter from CPS stated, "Following a [thorough] CPS investigation this agency has determined the disposition of this report to be founded level 1 for physical abuse of Noah by an employee by the Henrico Doctor's Hospital NICU." Noah has since fully recovered from his injuries.

In a statement to news hounds, the Virginia Department of Health said, "We are working closely with other state and local partners, including the Henrico Police Department and Virginia State Police."

Feds' disbanded 'censorship nerve center' faces hellish afterlife amid lawsuits, Hill probes UPDATE: not dead, just renamed
[JustTheNews] State ignoring FOIA requests for its communications related to Europe's pro-censorship Digital Services Act, requester says in suit. First Amendment disinformation police boycott suit on hiatus until Feb. 18.

The State Department laid to rest the alleged "censorship nerve center" of the federal government last week after Congress refused to reauthorize the interagency Global Engagement Center, known for teaching youth to distrust populism and allegedly squelching American small businesses online.

While it may have a peaceful afterlife – State plans to "realign" GEC staff with other entities that handle purported "foreign information manipulation and interference activities" – GEC also faces an unquenchable fire and undying worm on multiple fronts.

The Functional Government Initiative (FGI) filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit Monday against State, with nine exhibits, because it "has produced no records and has failed to assert any claims that responsive records are exempt from production" in response to three FOIA requests whose statutory due dates have passed.

Two seek discussions within GEC and State's Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, and their talks with the White House, on the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA), whose stated goal is stopping "illegal and harmful activities online and the spread of disinformation."

The third asks for "internal press guidance" mentioned in a New York Post article Sept. 13 in which State officials mulled how to discredit journalists reporting on GEC's funding of disinformation police NewsGuard and Global Disinformation Index (GDI), and Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., for supporting a ban on "federal funding of anti-free speech groups."

It's not the first FOIA to State for internal press guidance related to GEC's funding. The agency hid the vast majority of emails, and even the names of public officials, in a FOIA production to former Department of Education lawyer Hans Bader in 2023.

Wisconsin GOP Sen. Ron Johnson has also been warning he'll aggressively wield his substantial subpoena powers as chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations and demand transparency from agencies.

He called on President-elect Donald Trump to create something like a "secretary of information extraction" to coordinate with Trump's incoming secretaries on exposing agency records he's seeking, and for binding budget caps based on the last surplus year of 1998 in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

Then-EU Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton repeatedly invoked the DSA to threaten X owner Elon Musk, starting with his purchase of the former Twitter, which also prompted President Biden to float a potential security review.

The EU distanced itself from Breton's final threat, to preempt Musk's planned X interview with then-GOP presidential nominee Trump, which prompted Musk to respond with a meme telling Breton to "literally, f*** your own face!"

The Frenchman resigned a month later, accusing President Ursula von der Leyen of trying to get France to replace him – days after House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, demanded a briefing from Breton on his threats against X, use of EU law to censor American speech and communications with the White House to "bypass the First Amendment."

Breton didn't let his departure stop him from saber-rattling against Musk, demanding Europe enforce the DSA against Musk on Dec. 21 for his "foreign interference" in German elections by endorsing the "far-right" Alternative for Germany party, which favors lower immigration.

"Only the AfD can save Germany," Musk had written, using its German acronym, in response to presumptive German Chancellor Friedrich Merz refusing to cooperate with AfD "no matter how many" seats it won in upcoming elections against his Christian Democratic Union.

All sorts of legal stuff at the link, for those who have the intestinal fortitude to face such things this early in the new year.
Update from American Greatness at 1:00 p.m. ET: It’s not dead, it’s just quietly rebranded:
Funding for the GEC was in the original 1500-page obscenity that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson had the temerity to bring to his colleagues as a “continuing resolution” last month. That monstrosity instantly drew some portion of the contempt and ridicule it deserved, not least from Elon Musk, whose fingers got a workout on the platform formerly known as Twitter. A 120-page, slimmed-down version of the bill was hastily cobbled together minus the GEC funding and other objectionable features (a raise for the legislators, for example). That passed, and so a putative “government shutdown” was avoided.

There was modified joy over this seeming victory. The fact that funding for the GEC was cut was one of the principal goads to celebration. Here at last was proof that a bad government activity could actually be zeroed out. No money, no activity.

But the joy was short-lived. Deploying a pragmatic version of the Juliet Principle (“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”), the deep staters in the State Department just cooked up a new name.

Allow me to introduce you to the “Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference Hub,” a polysyllabic, “rebranded” version of the GEC. Many of the people employed by the GEC are now employed by the new “hub.” They’ll need new business cards, stationery, and signs for their offices. Doubtless, there will be other expenses. But since much of the GEC’s budget has been “realigned” to the new shop, that won’t be a problem.

A rocket factory and a warehouse in the hellhole called Rafah were completely destroyed

The Times of Israel adds:
An underground Hamas weapons manufacturing plant in the central Gaza Strip was recently demolished by troops, the military says.

Members of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit, operating under the 99th Division in central Gaza, located and demolished the tunnel, following “precise intelligence” on the site, the IDF says.

The IDF says that inside the tunnel, troops found several lathes and machines for processing and cutting materials used for the manufacture of weapons.

The military also recovered documents, computers, and portable hard drives from the tunnel.

After the tunnel was mapped out and the findings were seized, combat engineers destroyed it.

The IDF says that the demolition of the tunnel is “another blow to the attempts of the Hamas terror organization to recover.”
