Buzzfeed Shares Crater: Down 60% As SPAC Bloodbath Worsens
Kick a media company when they're down - it's so much easier!
[Zero Hedge] - As shares of "pre-revenue" companies have been absolutely clobbered during the selloff that has afflicted US stocks since the start of the year, shares of the recently de-SPAC'd Buzzfeed are down 60% from their offering price - the $10/share that's typical of pre-deal SPACs.

Shares of the firm, which now trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker "BZFD", have sunk to a new low below $4 a share during Tuesday's market ructions.
'NASDAQ today, pink sheets tomorrow!'
We have noted many times that BuzzFeed, a languishing darling of the mid-2010s VC love affair with "hip" "progressive" digital-media companies, has never been profitable, and while it's revenues have climbed somewhat in recent years, it remains modestly unprofitable.

Still, with a pesky new union dedicated towards battling with management for higher wages (even while wages at the company remain very attractive compared with the rest of the digital media space), CEO Jonah Peretti has his work cut out for him.

The company's market value has fallen without stopping since its December debut trading under the "BZFD" ticker.
'Fallen' is an interesting word - click on the link to see a chart that looks like a ski run down Tuckerman's Ravine or Cannon Mountain.

Why the Masked and the Unmasked Have Disdain for Each Other
[Townhall] Among the many unbridgeable divides between Americans is a completely antithetical view of mask wearing. On one side are those who wear masks almost everywhere outside their homes and who demand that others do so, including young children in class and on outdoor playgrounds, and 2-year-olds on airplanes.

On the other side are those who only wear a mask where they are punished for not doing so (most obviously, airplanes). They regard masks as essentially pacifiers for adults.

Generally speaking, these two groups have disdain for each other.

Why the pro-mask half of America holds the anti-mask half in contempt needs little explanation. They believe anti-mask Americans are putting others in grave danger. Pro-maskers believe that even children who do not wear masks put their own lives and the lives of other children and teachers at risk.

If the only problem with the pro-mask position were that it negates science, it would only be harmless nonsense.

But while it is nonsense, it is not harmless.

Over 120 Killed After ISIS Mass Prison Break In US-Occupied Northeast Syri, 140+ as of Monday
[ZeroHedge] At least 120 people have been killed in clashes between ISIS and the US-backed Kurdish SDF in northeast Syria, Al Jazeera reported Sunday.

The clashes are still ongoing and were touched off Thursday night by an ISIS attack on a prison in Hasakeh, Syria. The SDF initially said they thwarted the prison break but later said some inmates took over parts of the prison.

The fight for Sina’a Prison continued Monday

[Rudaw] The corpse count since last week’s operation has exceeded 150, including seven civilians as reported by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor which claimed on Monday that 102 ISIS fighters had been killed alongside 45 prison guards, Asayish, and counter-terrorism forces.

The US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday claimed higher figures. Citing the confessions of those re-arrested to claim that "more than 200 suicide terrorists" were involved in the attack, it reported the deaths of over 175 terrorists.

The head of the SDF's media office Farhad Shami said on Monday that operations were underway as planned, and over 300 "terrorist mutineers" who took part in the prison riot have surrendered to the force.

In a separate statement on Monday, the force reported that another fighter was killed in the day’s clash, bringing their total figure of SDF members killed in the response to the attack on the prison, also known as al-Sina’a, to 28. Operations are continuing to comb Ghweran neighbourhood in the pursuit of terrorist cells.
An earlier Rudaw article adds:
The Kurdish administration in northeast Syria (Rojava) has imposed a week-long curfew in Hasaka, starting on Monday, as their forces continue their attempt to quash a riot now into its fifth day inside a detention facility housing hundreds of hardcore Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) bad boys, as well as children claimed to be affiliated with the group. The curfew comes as a new video emerges from inside the detention facility, published on ISIS’ Telegram channel, showing dozens of armed ISIS fighters within the prison pledging to fight to the end.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the SDF General Command regarding the attack on al-Sina’a prison, while the prison "is under our forces’ control," the statement said, the SDF are continuing operations in the surrounding area due to the existence of "two or three terrorist cells" within the Ghweran neighborhood. "Our forces are working to impose their control inside the prison as well," it added.

The Kurdish administration in northeast Syria announced on Sunday that they have imposed a total ban on movement within the Hasaka province following the attack on the prison in the city. The authorities said that the ban did not impact municipality services, bakeries, fuel stations and health centers. Kurdish authorities have also tightened security in other areas, including in the city of Qamishli, to counter any possible attempt by ISIS to cause instability in the area.

Letta Tayler of Human Rights Watch (HRW) shared in a series of tweets on Sunday that the organization had received an audio message from a terrified child inside the al-Sina’a prison, who said the building - and those in it - were "getting hit from every side".

"There’s a lot of people dead, a lot of people injured... please help," the child pleaded.

Desperate requests from these children come as a new video, dated Sunday, depicts what appear to be adult murderous Moslems inside the prison preparing to fight to the end. A man stands in the middle of a packed room as he uses religious language, spoken in Arabic, to encourage those around him to pledge to fight to the end. When he calls on the men, they hold out their hands and chant in unison, "We pledge to die." In the next scene, men are seen breaking down a wall, as they exit the room through the gap. Most are wearing orange bandanas.

ISIS has released a number of videos from inside the prison, including one that showed around two dozen men - mostly Arabs - detained inside the facility. Kurdish authorities have said that those shown were cooks working in the prison kitchen. There appears to have been a backlash against the jihadists amongst the Sunni Arab tribes from the Hasaka and Deir ez-Zor governorates, where many of the men detained come from.

ISIS operatives and supporters said on Monday that the battle inside the prison is intensifying. One member posted a photo on social media saying that the lions of Baghouz will free their brethren in prison.

Baghouz is a reference to the final battle between the Kurdish-led SDF and ISIS in early 2019, where the jihadists were defeated. Most were either killed or captured; some of those detained were taken to al-Sina’a prison where the fighting continues.

A 75-year-old French adventurer has died attempting solo row across the Atlantic ocean
(CNN)Jean-Jacques Savin, a 75-year-old French adventurer, has died while attempting to row across the Atlantic single-handedly, according to a statement from his support team for the endeavor.

"It is with great sadness that we have just learned of the death of our friend Jean-Jacques," his support team said in a post on Facebook. "The body of Jean-Jacques was found lifeless inside the cabin of his canoe l'Audacieux (The Audacious)."

Savin had set off from southwest Portugal on January 1 and was headed toward Ponta Delgada in the Azores islands before losing contact with this team early on January 21.

He activated two distress beacons on Thursday night into Friday to indicate he was experiencing a situation of great difficulty, his team said.

Portugal's maritime authority spotted Savin's boat floating overturned near the Azores on Friday. A diver was able to descend under the waterline to look inside the boat's small cabin and discovered Savin's body inside.

"Unfortunately, this time the ocean was stronger than our friend, who loved sailing and the sea so much," Savin's support team said.

No further information will be released because the team does not want to give details of Savin's death and extended their condolences to his daughter and partner.

Savin was no stranger to bold adventures. He had already crossed the Atlantic in a giant orange barrel on a 2,930-mile journey, coming ashore in May 2019 on the tiny Dutch Caribbean island of St. Eustatius after more than four months at sea.

He previously worked as a military paratrooper and a private pilot, and climbed Mont Blanc in 2015, according to his project's website.

German caution on arms to Ukraine rooted in history, energy
BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s refusal to join other NATO members in providing weapons to Ukraine has annoyed some allies and raised questions about Berlin’s resolve in standing up to Russia.

The issue rose to the fore over the weekend following a report that Berlin had gone so far as to block Estonia from supplying old German howitzers to Kyiv to help defend itself against Russian troops massing near the Ukrainian the border.

Germany’s stance on arms supplies does "not correspond to the level of our relations and the current security situation," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.

Speaking to reporters Monday in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz denied a decision had been made on the howitzers and insisted that his country stands with its NATO and European Union allies in opposing any Russian incursion into Ukraine.

"Should this situation occur, we will jointly act," he told reporters. "There would be a high price."

Still, while Germany would continue to provide help to Ukraine, there would be one exception, he said: "We don’t provide any lethal weapons."
"just non-lethal weapons, like protest signs, but definitely NOT mean tweets"
That stance, criticized in Kyiv and — less loudly — in Washington and London, has caused consternation among some in Germany who worry that their country may not be considered a reliable partner.

#7  The medical and public health professions have beclowned themselves in this fiasco. Their credibility is gone.

This is the first time in modern medical history that known, proven effective treatments for an illness were banned by public health authorities.

The first time that the protective regime deliberately favored infirm elderly patients to the extreme detriment of healthy young people.

The first time that health authorities in advanced nations deliberately and routinely distorted data on testing accuracy, vaccine efficacy, and cause of death.

The first time that health authorities changed the very definition of what a vaccine is and does, so as to obscure the fact that their experimental gene therapy is a colossal failure.

#5  John Podesta was Hillary's campaign manager in 2016. Formerly served as White House Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton from 1998 to 2001 and Counselor to President Barack Obama from 2014 to 2015. I remember when John Podesta got his email hacked during the 2016 campaign because he fell for a phishing scam. That was shockingly stupid for a guy who has held such responsible positions. Then he got all butt hurt, blamed Trump and the Russians. On election night, when Hillary refused to appear for a concession speech, John had to go before the campaign workers and apologize for her. No pride. No principles. Apparently not a whole lot of smarts but at least Tony has enough to be a bag man for a corrupt Chicom corporation. It seems to run in the family.

It's interesting if you search for John Podesta on DuckDuckGo what kind of material shows up.

Alabama's new congressional map blocked by 'Federal' judges
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Federal judges on Monday blocked Alabama from using newly drawn congressional districts in upcoming elections, ruling that the state should have two districts — instead of one — in which Black voters are a sizable portion of the electorate.

"Black voters have less opportunity than other Alabamians to elect candidates of their choice to Congress," the three-judge panel wrote in the 225-page ruling that found plaintiffs are "substantially likely" to prevail on claims that the current districts violate the Voting Rights Act.

"We find that the plaintiffs will suffer an irreparable harm if they must vote in the 2022 congressional elections based on a redistricting plan that violates federal law," the ruling stated.

The judges blocked use of the map and stayed the candidate qualification deadline with political parties from Friday until Feb. 11 to allow the Legislature the opportunity to enact a remedial plan.

Wakandan judges greenlight special grand jury for Trump probe
[AJR] The judges on Fulton County’s Superior Court bench on Monday cleared the way for a special grand jury to be used for District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation of former President Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

Chief Judge Christopher S. Brasher wrote that a majority of the judges had agreed to the request issued by Willis’ office late last week.

The special grand jury will be impaneled May 2 and can continue for a period "not to exceed 12 months," Brasher wrote in an order.

"The special purpose grand jury shall be authorized to investigate any and all facts and circumstances relating directly or indirectly to alleged violations of the laws of the State of Georgia," Brasher wrote.

Ernst Jünger: our prophet of anarchy - the dissident thinker predicted our disordered times
EXCERPT:

[UnHerd] For Junger, prayer is powerful magic, an efficacious antidote to modernity: "It possesses a conductive power." Without prayer, "our freedom of will and powers of resistance diminish; the appeal of demonic powers becomes more compelling, and its imperatives more terrible."

Junger’s reference to demonic power is here entirely literal. As the years pass, he begins to view Hitler — who he codenames "Kniébolo"— not as a malicious charlatan who has perverted his conservative revolution but as a genuinely demonic figure, possessing a "a certain diabolical greatness" that is "elemental, infernal" and who "feeds" on the forces unleashed by modernity in a way the "liberal intelligentsia" are incapable of understanding. "In their innermost inclinations," Junger observes, "minds like Kniébolo’s are bent on the most comprehensive homicide possible. They seem to belong to a world of corpses that they want to populate — they find the stench of the slain pleasant."

At the height of the war, while the Holocaust was a marginal concern of the Allies, Junger would return again and again to "these atrocities perpetrated against the Jews, which enrage the cosmos against us". The Nazi leadership are "demonic powers" channeling occult forces: "these people are probing the planet, and the fact that they choose the Jews as their primary victims cannot be a coincidence," he writes, "Their highest-ranking executioners have a kind of uncanny clairvoyance that is not the product of intelligence but of demonic inspiration. At every crossroads, they will find the direction that leads to greater destruction." Of Hitler, Junger writes that "I sometimes have the impression that the world spirit has chosen him in a subtle way. There are secrets here that other tribes will never comprehend."

#1  Jung wrote that our job when maturing intellectually and psychologically is to acknowledge and integrate the good aspects of archetypal energies that we at first reject automatically.

He noted that those who have some awareness of those archetypes but who do *not* do the hard work of integration are a danger to themselves and others. That's Jünger in a nutshell.

Putin to deliver a limited strike on Ukraine to include Kiev
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

The leaders of the two breakaway republics, Lugansk and Donetsk, as well as Ukrainian politicians used to do this twice a year: that Lugansk and Donetsk forces would launch an offensive to takeover more of Ukraine.

Twice a year. For six years.

This bit of semiannual Kabuki theater was one of the reasons I quit reporting on the civil war there. Stew from the GULAG would be more attractive than the plate of bullshit they were serving.

[Rusvesna] Analysts say Putin will now almost certainly launch a limited strike over the next ten days, which could include an attack on the Ukrainian capital's three million people. The message about the "almost inevitable war" was accompanied by the latest map of the 'Russian attack.'

Voenkor Mikhail Andronik in his Telegram channel "Warrior of the 2nd category" drew attention to a curious detail:

"On the fresh map of the 'attack' on Ukraine, The Sun completely surrendered the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of the LDNR. Like this! And the war hasn't even started yet."

And although part of the territory of the LPR occupied by Kiev in the north was still left unshaded - in blue, the rest of the territory of Ukraine, the territory of the DPR along the borders of the former region is already shown completely non-Ukrainian.

The situation with the Kharkiv region also attracts attention. If you look at the directions of 'attacks,' according to The Sun, from the territory of Crimea, the Republics of Donbass, as well as the Belgorod region to the central regions of Ukraine, then the Kharkiv region stands apart, outside the directions of the “advancement of Russian troops."

From a commenter on V Kontakte: Sanctions will soon be issued for not attacking.

Breast milk is not for men
[UnHerd] The "pumping room" at Ambrosia Labs in Cambodia is an airless and dystopian space. I see 20 or so women packed in, being "milked". Their tops are off and they all have tubes attached to both nipples; their breast milk can be seen flowing through tubes into containers. They would do this for hours at a time, for six days a week. Above the noise of the pumps I could hear the cries of distressed babies and toddlers. They went hungry while the milk meant for them was extracted for export.

Once collected, the milk was transferred into plastic bags which were sealed, labelled and stored in a large freezer, ready to send to other mouths. For this precious liquid, the women were paid 50 cents an ounce, while those running the coercive operation were making a fortune.

Global demand for human breast milk has never been greater. Breast milk banks and peer-to-peer sharing have long existed, for mothers in need, but now it is increasingly being sold for profit. And not just to parents wishing to feed babies. There is a dark side to this trade, as there always is when human body parts and products are brokered.

In the UK, the commercialisation of breast milk is relatively new and was initially philanthropic in intent. Best Milk, one online provider, offered its product to premature, surrogate, adopted or "exceptionally hungry" babies; it asserted that babies fed on breast milk, rather than formula, have an improved IQ, a lower risk of cancer and chronic conditions, and are less likely to develop food intolerances and allergies. The website has now ceased trading.

NeoKare, meanwhile, Europe’s first breast milk processing plant has been going strong in England since March 2020. It offers, according to its website, "safe and screened breast milk products for when a mother’s own milk is not available. Invest in your baby’s future today." However, at £45 for six 50ml bottles, it doesn’t come cheap. At two months of age, a baby should drink 120-150 ml every 3-4 hours, which means feeding will cost £112 per day. And buying breast milk online comes with risks. In the UK and Ireland, the market is unregulated, which leaves parents vulnerable to buying substandard or dangerous milk for their child. One study from 2015 found that 93% of breast milk sold online contains detectable levels of bacteria, because of the use of non-sterile equipment to express or store the milk. Babies who drink it can be exposed to Hepatitis B and C, HIV and syphilis.

Is Russia-Ukraine-USA really just a "Wag the Dog" scenario?
Seriously, are we really in a "Wag the Dog" scenario? Because it seems to have too many benefits for all concerned and no real shooting.

USA - Biden Handlers are getting massive amounts of Media deflection from their Liberal Tinkle-Poor handling of the Economy and Covid-19. A staged face off between Biden-Putin makes both look like stronger world leaders.

Plus, maybe some help with the 2022 midterms, that is looking like a collection of steaming fresh Cow Paddies.

Russia - Putin gets to re-enforce his viral strong imagine. Promote "Russia's Rise in the East". Able to face off, or down the USA as an equal or superior world leader.

Ukraine - As we have read, the Biden Family (and staff) has pocketed over $30M from various Ukraine sources in the last 12+/- years. It likely knows Biden is not about to start a War. But neither do they want political blood to flow either. The current leadership gets to look strong rattling its sword.

All while keeping a USA/EU paths open for many economic ventures.

#1  It's multi-faceted. Of course Biden desperately needs a foreign military adventure to stave off his horribly poor approval ratings. The globalists want to wipe out Russia once and for all, and smash it into small states that will be easily assimilated. The corrupt DC mandarins want to cash in. It's win-win for everyone.

Well, except the American people, of course. We get to pay for it and do all the dying. Not that the DC factions give a shit about us.

#3  If this is they picked a stupid scenario. All this does is remind everybody how inept the withdrawal from Afghanistan was. Much better to come in strong on a drug gang or human trafficking operation to (a) make your open border chaos seem no so bad (b) provide an enemy you can defeat, and if you don't defeat nobody will really know (c) Provide an enemy you can beat with a weekend bombing run without troops on the ground (except maybe guys with laser sites) (d) provide an enemy nobody will support. Just arrange to ensure no media is around to show collateral damage.

If that doesn't work go after Somali pirates so our navy can show off, or even pick a 3rd world nation claiming some bits of international waters and provoke them.

You don't pick the world leader with nukes, a serious military that has some recent experience in the area, and a tactical mind that can run circles around the children helping gramps in the White House. Certainly not while your top Generals are deciding what colors to bedazzle the new non-gender specific uniforms with.

Russia said to be conducting joint patrol of Syrian border airspace
[IsraelTimes] Syria and Russia hold joint military jet patrols of the airspace along Syria’s borders, according to a Russian Defense Ministry statement reported by Interfax and picked up by Rooters.

According to the report, Russia’s Defense Ministry says such joint patrols are expected to be a regular occurrence moving forward.

The news comes amid tensions along the Russia-Ukraine border as Western powers scramble to counter an implied threat by Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Putin is considered one of few allies of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
, and Russia is seen as using its presence in the war-torn country to gain a foothold in the Middle East.

Israel’s close relations with Russia and Putin are often seen as linked to its close military coordination in Syria, in particular when the IDF carries out purported strikes on sites within Syria.

Russia joined Syria’s 10-year conflict in September 2015, when the Syrian military appeared close to collapse, and has since helped in tipping the balance of power in favor of Assad, whose forces now control much of the country. Hundreds of Russian troops are deployed across Syria and they also have a military air base along Syria’s Mediterranean coast.

Terrorists Strike Ondo Community Again, Shoot Two Residents Dead
[SaharaReporters] Terrorists carrying out banditry activities have again attacked Okeluse Community in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing two people.

The forces of Evil were said to have shot at the victims: an owner of a petrol station in the community and his attendant.

According to Punch, the button men stormed the community at about 6pm and opened fire on the dear departed.

Another resident of the community, on condition of anonymity, described the killers as Fulani
... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity...
herdsmen who had allegedly been terrorising the local government.

The attack was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Funmilayo Odunlami adding that she would release the details later as soon as she had them.

SaharaReporters had earlier on Sunday reported how residents of Ondo State in the Housing Estate Igba, Ondo town also endured the activities of herders who wreaked havoc on their land for four years.

This incessant activity has often times led to pockets of festivities between residents of the estate and the herders as well.

It had been reported that the herdsmen and estate residents had clashed multiple times in the past, the result being several meetings of residents with representatives of the herdsmen. But those meetings never worked.

A security source told Shafaq News Agency, "The Iraqi Army aircrafts carried out two Arclight airstrike

s in al- Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad targeting two sites of ISIS hard boys."

He did not give further details.

Earlier today, The Iraqi Army bombed sites of ISIS groups in the north of the Iraqi capital.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that the Iraqi Army targeted the murderous Moslem group's headquarters embedded inside the orchards of al-Tarmiyah.

In a statement, the Security Media Cell reported that the consecutive airstrikes had killed six members of a terrorist cell in the al-Ukaili orchard in the al-Tabi area within the al-Tarmiyah.

Al-Tarmiyah, 50 kilometers to the north of Baghdad, remains a stronghold of the toppled Caliphate state.

Sleeper cells sheltering inside the Sunni-majority district continue to wage attacks against civilians and security forces even though the Iraqi Army and al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces-PMF) launched a large-scale military operation to trace and pursue the remnants of the terrorist organization in July 2021.

Why Accepting Child Transgenderism Will Pave The Way For Accepting Pedophilia
[The Federalist] The last several years can be viewed as a testament to the remarkable strategic power the woke left wields. The speed at which absurd ideas have been thrust into the limelight by vested media and a wide array of well-financed academics and non-profits is both startling and impressive.

Not long ago, it would’ve been unimaginable that a seven-year-old boy’s innocent preference for Polly Pockets over Power Rangers would find its tragic end in puberty blockers, chemical castration, and 15 minutes of fame on Snapchat’s explore page.

Calling this abuse doesn’t encapsulate the full extent of the damage. It is a culturally bolstered, politically incentivized mass grooming campaign with a disturbing history. Even worse, this all may be eclipsed by a much darker future should it continue unabated.

The push for childhood transgenderism is predicated on a perverse and extreme individualistic sentiment, specifically that children’s rights as individuals imply an autonomous ability to make irreversible decisions regarding their health, rather than require protection from parents and a culture that fend off all that endangers the most vulnerable.

The dangerous claim that children can meaningfully consent to puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy, or genital mutilation is, besides itself being deeply harmful, also leading our society down a sinister path towards accepting pedophilia. Here’s how.

Here's a 3-part podcast about the left's obsession with normalizing pedophilia. It's long because it needs a lot of explanation. But when you finish you will be spiritually armed to resist this great evil.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Tearful Hariri Withdraws from Politics Citing 'Iranian Influence' and 'Int'l Confusion'
[AnNahar] al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
Movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri
...Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too....
announced Monday the "suspension" of his role in political life and confirmed that neither him nor his political movement would run in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The 51-year-old, who was propelled into politics by his father Rafik's liquidation in 2005, announced his decision during a presser in Beirut.

"Rafik Hariri's project can be summarized with two ideas -- preventing civil war in Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...a formerly French, now an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. ...
and providing a better life for the Lebanese. I succeeded in the first and didn't achieve enough success in the second," Hariri said.

"Preventing civil war obliged me to engage in settlements, from containing the repercussions of May 7 (festivities) to the Doha Agreement to visiting Damascus, Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
's election and the electoral law," the ex-PM added, noting that these settlements came at his expense.

Noting that "preventing civil war" and "securing a better life for the Lebanese" were behind every step that he took, Hariri pointed out that this approach was the reason behind the loss of his "personal fortune, some foreign friendships, a lot of national alliances and even some comrades and brothers."

"What I cannot bear is that a number of Lebanese now consider me to be one of the members of the ruling class that caused the disaster," Hariri went on to say.

Adding that he is convinced that "there is no hope for any positive chance for Lebanon amid the Iranian influence, international confusion, national divisions, the aggravation of sectarianism and the state’s decay," the ex-PM announced the suspension of his role in political life and called on al-Mustaqbal Movement to take the same step.

"No nominations will be made for the parliamentary elections, neither by al-Mustaqbal Movement nor in the name of the Movement," he confirmed.

Addressing the supporters of political Harirism, the ex-PM said he will "remain in the service of our people and country."

"From our position as citizens, we will continue to cling to Rafik Hariri’s project to prevent civil war and seek a better life for all Lebanese. We will remain in the service of Lebanon and the Lebanese and our houses will remain open," Hariri added.

Senator Ben Sasse: Germany Has ‘De Facto' Exited NATO
[Breitbart] Monday, during Hugh Hewitt’s nationally syndicated radio broadcast, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) reacted to the ongoing heightened situation between Russia and Ukraine, which some are suggesting will end with Russia invading Ukraine.

Hewitt asked the Nebraska lawmaker to react to Germany’s efforts to block aid to Ukraine and asked if that was a sign Germany had left NATO.

"[H]as Germany effectively left NATO?" Hewitt asked. "And I am deadly serious. If they are preventing overflights of British supplies to Ukraine, and they’re refusing to allow the Baltic states to send the mortars that Germany sold them to Ukraine, they are effectively returning to the position of Central Europe arbitrator between Russia and the West. They have left NATO, I believe."

"It certainly feels in a de facto way, maybe not a de jure way, but in a de facto way, it feels like Germany has tried to move to a pre-NATO time in history," Sasse responded. "And obviously, that’s a terrible time. I mean, the American people have not been brought along. It’s a failure of leadership. And we’re, you know, we’re three straight administrations into people undermining NATO. But now, we’re at a place where NATO clearly isn’t what it was and what it should be, and it feels like Germany’s act in the last days and week sure feel like an abandonment of NATO in reality."

Two men take corpse into Irish post office to claim dead man's pension. Spoiler, wasn't Biden
[TheGuardian] Gardaí have launched an investigation after two men carried a dead body into an Irish post office in an apparent attempt to claim his pension.

The deceased pensioner was described in reports as being “propped up” by the men as they walked into the building in County Carlow on Friday morning.

The outlandish series of events began when one of the men entered the post office at about 11.30am on Friday, asking to collect a pension payment for an older man, the Irish Times reported. He was refused, with staff informing him that the pensioner would have to be present in order for the money to be handed over.

The man returned soon after with two other men, one of whom was in his 60s and appeared to be being supported by the two others. The younger men asked to be given his pension payment.

No cash was handed over and the two men fled the scene, abandoning the man's body after a woman who had become suspicious raised the alarm with a staff member. The deceased man is reported to have been well known to the men who had been carrying his body.

Gardaí said they were investigating "all the circumstances surrounding the unexplained death of an elderly male in the Carlow area". A postmortem will be conducted.

A woman living beside the post office said her daughter saw the two men carrying the deceased man into the building. "She was leaving my house at the time and said the man looked unwell as his feet were dragging [along] the ground," the woman, who did not want to be named, told the Irish Independent.

The mayor of Carlow, Fianna Fáil councilor Ken Murnane, said he was "absolutely shocked" to hear the news. "I heard there was a commotion in the post office," he told the newspaper. “I go by there all the time and it's a very busy post office - normally there'd be a queue out the door there.

“I was absolutely shocked to hear about what happened. I can not believe anyone would do something like that. It beggars belief, I'm just shocked. ”

Local Fine Gael councilor Fergal Byrne echoed Murnane's words, saying: "The whole town is in shock." He described the deceased as "a nice man by all accounts and someone who caused no offense to anyone".

Byrne said: “The staff in the shop are very shook up from it. I'd like to offer my sympathies to the man's family too. It's a bizarre and upsetting situation. ”

6 reported killed in stampede at African Cup soccer game
[Independent] At least six people have died in a stampede outside a stadium hosting an African Cup of Nations soccer game in Cameroon, an official said Monday.

Naseri Paul Biya, governor of the central region of Cameroon, said there could be more casualties.

The stampede happened as crowds struggled to get access to Olembe Stadium in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde to watch the host country play Comoros in a last 16 knockout game in Africa's top soccer tournament.

Officials at the nearby Messassi hospital said they had received at least 40 injured people from the stampede.

"Some of the injured are in desperate condition," said Olinga Prudence, a nurse. "We will have to evacuate them to a specialized hospital."

Soccer officials said around 50,000 people had tried to attend the match. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 but it was not meant to be more than 80% full for the game due to restrictions on the size of the crowd because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cameroon won the game 2-1 to reach the quarterfinals.

6 Found Dead At Milwaukee Home Had Been Shot
[News9] Six people were found dead in a Milwaukee home in what police are investigating as multiple homicides, authorities said.
Gun violence™. "The suspect is nickel-plated with an extended magazine and tritium sights"
Milwaukee police responded about 3:45 p.m. Sunday to assist with a welfare check at the residence where four men and one woman were found dead, Milwaukee Assistant Police Chief Paul Formolo said during a Sunday evening news conference.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office tweeted early Monday that the body of an additional person, a man, was recovered from the home. The identities of the dead were pending.

A motive and information about any suspects was not immediately known, Formolo said. Police have not said what caused the deaths, but Formolo said there is no information to suggest that there is a threat to the community.

“It is important not to feel numbed by the ongoing violence in our community. A horrible crime has again occurred,” Acting Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in a statement Sunday night.

Summer of 2022, tests of the UAV Okhotnik will begin
[REGNUM] A new model of the S-70 Okhotnik heavy strike unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a new engine equipped with a flat nozzle will be released for flight tests in the summer of 2022, the Izvestia newspaper reports on January 24, citing sources in the aircraft industry.

According to the source, flight tests of the largest and most powerful Russian UAV should begin in July this year.

Recall that the previous sample of the S-70 Okhotnik UAV in 2019 was first tested in the sky in cooperation with the fifth generation Su-57 fighter.

In December 2021, the Chkalov Novosibirsk Aviation Plant (NAZ) rolled out the first sample of the S-70 Okhotnik with a flat jet engine nozzle, which makes the drone invisible to enemy radars.

According to some reports, the S-70 Okhotnik heavy attack unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may be adopted by the Russian army in 2024.

#1  More vaccine fail. First Israel, then the U.K., now Scotland shows data on negative effectiveness. David Horowitz gathers their charts and analyzes their data.

"...while the overall Omicron wave seems to be receding in Scotland, age-standardized case rates per 100,000 people were the lowest in the unvaccinated cohort every week for the past four weeks.

"Thus, it’s not just the fact that the unvaccinated accounted for only 11.5% of cases the past two weeks, but even adjusted for age-stratified vaccination rates (PHS already does the math for you) the unvaccinated had the lowest infection rate out of the four cohorts – especially during the peak of Omicron. Furthermore, we see that even the triple-vaccinated clearly have no efficacy against infection, although they have some degree less negative efficacy than the double-vaccinated.

Afghanistan
Forget the women - money is the real reason why the Taliban came to Oslo
Of course. That’s what unbelievers are for.
Norway goes full Sweden stupid
[GoogleTranslate] The Taliban does not come to Oslo to discuss women's rights. The Taliban is coming to Oslo to raise money.

Shafiullah Azam, one of the Taliban delegates , told the Associated Press:
- We ask them to release Afghan funds and stop punishing ordinary Afghans for political reasons.
Then kill yourselves, to please allan of course
The Taliban are pushing the people of Afghanistan hostage to put pressure on the United States to release $ 9.5 billion worth of goods frozen by the Americans when the Taliban took Kabul and to take over the Asraf Ghani government's straw in the Norwegian aid fund .

From New York, Støre obscures in a familiar style with an incomprehensible story. He tells VG that "They are here because we have arranged for them to meet Afghans who are in exile, civil society in Afghanistan, the United States, the EU and NATO. (...) Norway can do this because we are recognizable over time "

Does Støre think that the Taliban is coming to Norway to greet Afghans who have fled the Taliban? Or do they come as old friends because they recognize us, and not as enemies for whom we have sacrificed the lives of Norwegian soldiers in a war that lasted almost 20 years and which has cost Norwegian taxpayers many billions of kroner?

While the other Nordic countries chose to safeguard and consolidate their interests in the immediate area, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was reorganized and instead turned its eyes to more distant skies and a form of global philanthropy that was enthusiastically called engagement policy by Stoltenberg and a missionary Bondevik, and since ' Norwegian reputation building' with at least as much glow by Erna Solberg .

In this way, Oslo has gained an international reputation as 'capital of easy money' . In fact, several embassies here have the main task of triggering Norwegian funding for projects in their home country.

And while there are fires on the border with Ukraine and Norwegian electricity customers are forced to pay the highest electricity prices in Europe, Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party) kindly distributes them to the terrorist organization Taliban, while Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (Social Democrats) sits still like a mouse.

Afghanistan
Saw it coming- China Prepares Afghanistan Business Expo to Unleash Taliban's ‘Market Potential'
[Breitbart] A group of Chinese "business representatives" is planning an "expo" event in Kabul, Afghanistan, for April, the Chinese state-run Global Times revealed on Sunday, meant to help China profit off of business under the jihadist Taliban regime.

Taliban officials have repeatedly asserted since taking power in August that they anticipated significant financial backing from the Chinese Communist Party. The Taliban, a jihadist terrorist organization that ruled Afghanistan in the 1990s, took over the country once again last year after President Joe Biden broke an agreement with the group that prompted a national campaign of conquest ending in Kabul. No foreign government has formally recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, but the former president of the country, Ashraf Ghani, fled; the Afghan military collapsed; and no significant challenge to the Taliban’s control of the nation exists.

The Chinese Communist Party has referred to the Taliban as an "interim government" in the recent past, suggesting some degree of acceptance.

The Global Times, a mouthpiece for the communist regime, reported that state-backed Chinese businesses (China is a communist country, so all legal business activity is government-controlled) have increased their communication with Afghan traders seeking to deepen ties with the country.

"China and Afghan business interactions have seen an upward trend in recent days, driven by the unleashing of market potential for Afghan agricultural and other related products in China, its largest neighboring market," the propaganda newspaper reported, citing "business representatives" in China.

#8  This absurd manufactured "crisis" comes down to two things: a desire for autonomy on the part of Russian speakers in the eastern parts Ukraine, and a determination on Putin's part not to let Ukraine join NATO. The first is none of our business and the second should be embraced as a blessing in disguise for us. Neither is a cause for US military action.

#9  this is shaping up to be a humiliating smackdown, or else a historic disaster of NATO.

Yes. Another Suez Crisis 1956. Only this time, it's the end of the American-led order in Europe: the end of NATO. Impotent, indolent, irrelevant.

#10  If Putin invades, it will be Russia's Vietnam. 35 million very pissed Ukrainians, not to mention expats and descendants, with lots of western weapons and sanctuary. No need to mention a ruined Russian economy. If Putin thinks of invading, then he hasn't thought it out.

#11  Vlad will by-pass Ukrainian strong points and make a mad dash for Kiev to install his puppet pro-Russian President. A lot of young men will die on both sides in the process of Vlad realizing his political dream of resurrecting the Former Soviet Union.

Vlad brings the Ukraine back into the Russian fold while breaking the back of NATO. I am sure he sees no downside.

#18  Vlad doesn't need to invade Ukraine to install his own puppet regime in Kiev. He'll bribe or blackmail some of them, intimidate others, rig an election and viola! If Brandon can rig an election, so can Vlad.

But if he does invade, we need to stay out of it. And I'm sick of hearing comparisons between Ukraine and Taiwan. Nobody outside the Beltway cares about Ukraine. Only the Bidens have any real interests there. I bet even a lot of Ukrainians don't really care. Taiwan is a valued trading partner and a thorn in the side of our worst enemy.

IIRC, this whole mess started when John McCain and Baraq Obama engineered a coup in Ukraine to install a government that would be pro-Western. Vlad was infuriated and he has good reason to be paranoid about Western meddling in his front yard. Thanks, John. Thank you very much, Baraq. Well, at least the Biden family got something out of it.

A more practical approach might be to offer Vlad a deal: We (NATO) stay out of Ukraine and he stays out of Ukraine and don't be too sticky about Ukraine's border either.

Univ in England puts Orwell's '1984' on the trigger warning list
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Published in 1949, Orwell’s dystopian story — set in a totalitarian state which persecutes individual thinking — gave the world phrases such as ’Big Brother’, ’Newspeak’ and ’thought police’.

Its plot centers on Winston Smith, a government employee who is arrested and tortured over an illicit love affair, but it also makes powerful points about what can happen to a society that doesn’t cherish academic freedoms or its own history.

Yet it is one of several literary works which have been flagged up to students at Northampton who are studying a module called Identity Under Construction. They are warned that the module ’addresses challenging issues related to violence, gender, sexuality, class, race, abuses, sexual abuse, political ideas and offensive language’.

Australian reportedly killed when explosive vest detonates
[Yahoo] Police said on Tuesday they were investigating the death of a man who was reportedly killed when an explosive vest he was wearing detonated while he was driving his car in a suburban street in the Australian city of Melbourne.

The vest was understood to have been triggered by the car hitting a speed bump on Young Road in the suburb of Hallam on Saturday morning, Seven News reported.

Security camera video showed the flash of the explosion rise about the car's roof and from the driver’s side window. A speed bump wasn't apparent in the video.
but the radio was playing "Highway to Hell"
The car continued to travel a few hundred meters before it hit a parked vehicle near the corner of Young Road and Homewood Boulevard.

Emergency services were called to reports of a minor vehicle collision at the intersection at 11:40 a.m. local time, a police statement said.

A 43-year-old man from the suburb of Dandenong was found dead inside his car, which also contained “explosive items,” police said. Police have not released his name.

“Bomb Response Unit members attended due to explosive items located inside the vehicle and it took a considerable amount of time for the Bomb Response Unit to render these items safe,” police said.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation by the Arson and Explosives Squad and it is not being treated as suspicious,” police said. The term “not suspicious” means police do not consider the man was a victim of a crime.

Police did not say where the man was heading. He had visited the home of his ex-partner immediately before his death, Seven reported.

Witness Ben Augel estimated 15 police cars responded, closing streets as bomb and arson experts worked.

Neighbors said police spent almost 24 hours at the scene, Seven reported.

“I just heard a big, loud bang at 11 a.m. and looked out the window of my house and saw a car had gone through the roundabout and hadn’t braked or anything like that and crashed,” Augel told Seven.

Seven described the driver as a former soldier and a father.

A spray painted tribute on a brick wall near the scene of the tragedy said: ”Dad my soldier 4 ever” with a love heart.

Arabia
UAE destroys missile site in Yemen
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] A Houthi-owned missile launch site in Yemen was destroyed by an attack by UAE troops, Al Arabiya reported on January 24.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Emirates, the object from which the Houthis launched two ballistic missiles at Abu Dhabi was destroyed. It was hit by F-16 fighter jets.

In addition, the UAE military said it was able to intercept two missiles fired by the Houthis over Abu Dhabi on January 24.
Al Ahram adds:
American troops at al-Dhafra Air Base in the capital took shelter in bunkers during the attack and fired back with their own Patriot missiles.

Videos on social media showed the sky over Abu Dhabi light up before dawn Monday, with what appeared to be interceptor missiles racing into the clouds to target the incoming fire.

Two explosions later thundered through the city. The videos corresponded to known features of Abu Dhabi.

The state-run WAM news agency said that missile fragments fell harmlessly over Abu Dhabi.

Navy Capt. Bill Urban, spokesperson for US Central Command, in a statement, acknowledged the assistance of American Patriot missile batteries prevented the Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
missiles from striking targets in Abu Dhabi.

Videos on social media suggested outgoing interceptor fire came from the base.

``The combined efforts successfully prevented both missiles from impacting the base,'' Urban said.

Houthi military front man Yehia Sarei claimed the attack in a televised statement, saying the rebels targeted several sites in the UAE with both Zulfiqar ballistic missiles and drones, including al-Dhafra Air Base. He warned the UAE would continue to be a target ``as long as attacks on the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i people continue.''

``We warn foreign companies and investors to leave the Emirates!'' Sarei shouted from a podium. ``This has become an unsafe country!''

At al-Dhafra, which hosts both American and British forces, US troops took shelter in bunkers during the attack, the US Air Force's Mideast command said. al-Dhafra is home to the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing and has seen armed drones and F-35 stealth fighters stationed there.

The US Embassy in Abu Dhabi later issued a security alert to Americans living in the UAE, warning citizens to ``maintain a high level of security awareness.'' The alert included instructions on how to cope with missile attacks, something unheard of previously in the UAE, a tourist destination home to skyscraper-studded Dubai and its long-haul carrier Emirates.

The Emirati Defense Ministry later tweeted out a black-and-white video that it said showed an F-16 striking the ballistic missile launcher used in the Abu Dhabi attack. The Defense Ministry identified the site as being near al-Jawaf, a Yemeni province around 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) southwest of Abu Dhabi.

The state-linked newspaper The National in Abu Dhabi identified the F-16 as Emirati, raising the question of how directly involved the UAE now is in the fighting after withdrawing most of its ground forces in 2019. The Emiratis continue to back militias on the ground, including the Giants Brigade, which has made advances against the Houthis in recent weeks.

The Zulfiqar ballistic missile, believed to have a range of 1,500 kilometers (930 miles), is modeled after the Iranian Qiam missile, according to a report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
denies directly arming the Houthis, though United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
experts, Western nations and analysts have linked weapons in the rebels' arsenal back to Tehran.

The attack came a week after Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed an attack on the Emirati capital targeting the airport and an Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. fuel depot in the Mussafah neighborhood with drones and cruise missiles. That attack on the fuel depot killed three people and maimed six others.

New, high-resolution satellite photographs obtained by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named from Planet Labs PBC showed repair work still ongoing at the fuel depot Saturday. Emirati officials have not released images of the attacked sites, nor allowed journalists to see them.

Amazon, Facebook Spend Millions Lobbying Congress for More Legal Immigration, Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
[Breitbart] Two of the nation’s largest tech conglomerates, Amazon and Facebook, spent millions last year lobbying members of Congress to back legislation expanding legal immigration levels and amnesty for illegal aliens, records show.

In all of last year, Amazon spent $20.3 million on lobbying lawmakers — including on bills that would have benefited the multinational corporation’s reliance on cheap foreign labor. Facebook, similarly, spent $20.1 million on lobbying lawmakers.

Specifically, lobbying reports show, both Amazon and Facebook lobbied members of Congress to pass a huge green card giveaway scheme that would reward tech corporations for years of outsourcing American jobs to imported foreign visa workers while also allowing Indian and Chinese nationals to monopolize the employment-based green card system for at least a decade.

Amazon and Facebook also lobbied Congress to increase the process known as “chain migration” whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the United States. Already, 7-in-10 legal immigrants arrive via chain migration among the roughly 1.2 million legal immigrants that are rewarded green cards every year.

Most significantly, Washington, D.C. lobbyists for Amazon and Facebook were vital in the push for President Joe Biden’s failed “Build Back Better Act” which would have provided amnesty to most of the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens as well as limitless immigration for corporations.

Tech lobbyists have enjoyed a close financial relationship with elected Republicans and Democrats in recent decades.

For instance, a review of Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show that Amazon’s top lobbyist has recently donated to the Buckeye Victory Fund — which has transferred thousands in donations to the National Republican Congressional Committee — along with Reps. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Liz Cheney (R-WY), and Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).

Other lobbyists for Amazon have recently donated to Reps. Patty Murray (D-WA), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Angie Craig (D-MN), among others.

Meanwhile, lobbyists for Facebook have recently thrown cash at Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), the National Republican Study Committee (NRSC) which is chaired by Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)
