Woman accused of killing 21-year-old in Longs is Army specialist with Fort Bragg military police
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) — The woman charged in a deadly Longs shooting is an Army specialist with a military police unit at Fort Bragg, officials said Wednesday.

Yunique Weathers, 22, is accused of shooting De-Erica Fisher in a field near Highway 9 and Pine Needle Drive Sunday afternoon.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office confirmed Fisher, 21, was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Both Weathers and Fisher are from Fayetteville, N.C.

Capt. Matthew Visser, the acting director of public affairs at Fort Bragg, said Weathers is an active duty soldier assigned with the 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade.

"We are working in coordination with law enforcement and the criminal investigation division. An investigation into the incident is ongoing," Visser said.

Horry County police have charged Weathers with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Weathers is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. No bond has been set on her charges.

Feinstein defended China against human rights violations as husband got rich off Chinese companies
More from Schweizer’s Red-Handed.
[FoxNews] A new book reveals that California Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein repeatedly defended the public image of China's ruling Communist Party while her husband reaped major profits from his Chinese business ties.

Over the last three decades, Feinstein has downplayed the human rights violations being perpetuated by the Chinese Communist Party, according to "Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win," a newly released book by Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer.

The book, which was released on Tuesday, says Feinstein's husband, Richard Blum, has simultaneously grown his fortune immensely by doing business with the communist nation, at one point profiting from a company found to be spying on the U.S. military through Chinese products.

"He’s a businessman and he has a right to do business and he’s never done anything wrong," said Feinstein spokesperson Kam Kuwata, according to the new book.

The senator has been a defender of China for decades, becoming the first U.S. mayor to visit the country while running San Francisco. Feinstein supported granting Most Favored Nation (MFN) trade status to China in 2000 – a designation that relaxed restrictions and encouraged a surge in U.S.-China economic cooperation. In 1994, when the U.S. Senate was considering rescinding this trade status with China over human rights violations, Feinstein argued against it, saying it would "inflame Beijing's insecurities."

100+ Study of Wisconsin 2020 election
[WillLaw]
They must have spent 1000+ hours on this. It includes legal, statistical and forensic analysis.

They define 'fraud' as act by a person to intentionally vote illegally and by this definition there was little fraud.

However, they define 'unlawful' vote as an act by a person that contradicts statute and by this definition there was a lot of it.

Especially egregious was the absentee voting which by law is only allowed to people who are truly incapacitated, not who just don't feel like voting at the polls. There was probably over 100k like this (Biden's margin was about 20k). Not fraud because the people voting were eligible to vote.

Several bills have been passed by the Wisc legislature to fix these problems but the Gov (Dem) has vetoed them.

#1  So 100k voters did not follow the law, but would have been otherwise eligible.

So legally, their votes did not count. But there was no 'fraud'.

#2  their votes were counted because of emergency opinion of the att general. The opinion was issued in, I think, late summer 2020. Republicans didn't challenge until Nov 2020.

had they been required to vote in person many, probably most would have voted in person

BREAKING: Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer Announces Retirement
[PJMedia] Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring at 83 years old.

Breyer is expected to leave his position in October, which is when the current term ends, according to NBC News.

He is a liberal justice, which means that President Joe Biden’s first appointment will likely be someone with a similar progressive legal ideology.

According to NBC News, U.S. circuit Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger would be in the running.

SCOTUS News - Breyer To Retire Before Midterms
Now this is an interesting angle for things...
[Zero Hedge] - In a midday headline that rocked Washington, NBC News reports that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, one of the minority of liberal justices on the Court, is planning to retire before the midterms to give President Biden a chance to nominate and install a replacement.

Minutes ago, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted a statement that neither confirmed, nor denied, the NBC News report, but simply said that each justice must make their own decision about when to retire.

DeSantis Blasts FDA Revocation of EUA for Monoclonal Antibodies
[Epoch Times] Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is "hopping mad" over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decision to effectively pull emergency use authorization of monoclonal antibody treatments and has vowed to "fight back."

On Jan. 25, more than 2,000 Floridians woke up to emails and text messages telling them their appointments to receive monoclonal therapies were canceled due to the FDA’s decision, the governor’s office reported.

"Without a shred of clinical data to support this action [President Joe] Biden has forced trained medical professionals to choose between treating their patients or breaking the law," DeSantis said in a press statement.

"There are real world implications to Biden’s medical authoritarianism—American’s access to treatments is now subject to the whims of a failing president."

#4  Biden's denial of this safe, proven, FDA-approved treatment is nothing short of evil.

From Colorado's UC Health website:
Frequently asked questions about monoclonal antibody therapy

Can monoclonal antibodies treat COVID-19?

Increasing data from clinical trials show that when used early in the course of COVID-19, monoclonal antibodies can reduce the need to be admitted to the hospital and decrease the risk of death. For the greatest effect, treatment should be given as soon as possible, ideally within the first week after the start of symptoms.

Under the FDA Emergency Use Authorization, COVID-19 monoclonal antibodies can be used in people who are early in their disease course, not hospitalized for COVID-19, and are at high risk for getting very sick.

How long does it take for monoclonal antibody therapy to work?

Healing from COVID-19 is different for each patient. This is true even for patients who have been given monoclonal antibody therapy. Some symptoms will improve soon after the treatment. The main job of the antibodies is to keep the infection from getting worse. The goal is to avoid the most serious problems. These include being admitted to the hospital and death. If symptoms do get worse after having monoclonal antibody therapy, please get medical help.

For relief of minor symptoms such as a headache or body aches, over-the-counter medicines can be taken (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen).

Will I be protected from getting COVID-19 again after having monoclonal antibody therapy?

The effect of the treatment will last around 90 days. This is based on the normal amount of time that these antibodies stay active in the body. Monoclonal antibody therapy may give you some protection from getting sick again from COVID-19 during those 90 days. However, wearing a mask in public places is still important if you have a weakened immune system or if you are at increased risk for getting very sick.

Are monoclonal antibodies safe?

Monoclonal antibodies have been shown to be safe in clinical trials, with a rate of adverse reactions that was not different from placebo. Allergic reactions are possible but are rare.

Navy Seeks to Recover F-35 Before Chicoms
[Military.com] An F-35C Lightning II fighter suffered "a landing mishap" on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson in the South China Sea on Monday. It left seven sailors injured while the pilot safely ejected and was later recovered, the Navy confirmed, marking the fifth major mishap aboard the deployed carrier since late November.

When asked about the string of mishaps, Navy spokesman Lt. Nicholas Lingo said, "All five incidents remain under investigation, and we cannot speak to any pattern until the investigation concludes."

Lingo said that the F-35, which is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 2, suffered its mishap Monday while the Carl Vinson was conducting routine flight operations in the South China Sea. He added that "additional details and the cause of the in-flight mishap is under investigation."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
The Man Putin Fears
[TIME] On a cold morning in November, the family of Alexei Navalny, the Russian opposition leader, made the trip out to visit him at Penal Colony No. 2. The drive from Moscow took about two hours, though parts of it felt like traveling back in time. Coming off the highway from Russia’s high-tech capital, the roads became rutted. Apartment blocks gave way to wooden huts, and old ladies appeared near the roadside in heavy coats, selling vegetables from their gardens.

At the prison gates, Navalny’s wife and parents carried a few bags of groceries into a waiting room, where an ancient telephone allowed them to announce their visit to the guards. Before long, the inmate was led out to meet them. He looked skinny, his head shorn, a broad smile framed by a prison-issue hat. Ten months had passed since Navalny’s incarceration, and more than a year since he was nearly poisoned to death with a chemical weapon. Its effects on his nervous system no longer showed; his hands had stopped trembling. "He looked good," his wife Yulia Navalnaya later told me. "Unchanged."

It had been Navalny’s decision to be there. Not in this specific prison, with its silent guards and its windows papered over to create the feeling, Navalny says, of living inside a shoebox. But he did make a choice to return to Russia, fully aware of what the state would likely do to him. From his temporary exile, he decided almost exactly a year ago to submit to the custody of the regime that stood accused of trying to murder him. The poison had failed to kill Navalny. It hadn’t even really changed him.

#6  Time specializes in comedy masquerading as news. Putin wants a bigger Russia. The man he fears is the one who would get in the way - Trump. In Syria, for the first time since Wilson sent the Polar Bears into Russia a century ago, Trump took out hundreds of Russian ground troops.

Trump understands the logic of nuclear deterrence. No nuclear power will launch a first strike against another nuclear power in response to conventional attack. The logic is simple - it might lose tens of millions, at worst, in a conventional war. A nuclear exchange means a hundred million dead and, in Russia's case, the annexation of Russia by China. The promise of American air support for Ukraine, much as the Russians provided it for North Korea in 1950, would seriously complicate Putin's plans.

Russia Has Been Warning About Ukraine for Decades. The West Should Have Listened
[TIME] When I was a journalist for The Times (London) in Moscow in December 1992, I saw a print-out of a speech by the then Russian foreign minister, Andrei Kozyrev, warning that if the West continued to attack vital Russian interests and ignore Russian protests, there would one day be a dangerous backlash. A British journalist had scrawled on it a note to an American colleague, "Here are more of Kozyrev’s ravings."

Andrei Kozyrev was the most liberal and pro-Western foreign minister Russia has ever had. As he stated in his speech, his anxiety about Western behavior was rooted in fear that the resulting backlash would destroy liberalism in Russia and Russian co-operation with the West. He was proved right as we see today. Yet when he expressed this fear, in entirely moderate and rational terms, he was instinctively dismissed by western observers as virtually insane.

The point about this history is that the existing crisis with Russia has origins that go far beyond Putin. Russia has a foreign and security blob, just as does the United States, with a set of semi-permanent beliefs about Russian vital interests rooted in national history and culture, which are shared by large parts of the population. These include the exclusion of hostile military alliances from Russia’s neighborhood and the protection of the political position and cultural rights of Russian minorities.

The Yeltsin government protested strongly against the start of NATO expansion in the 1990s and Russia accustomed itself without too much trouble to NATO membership for the former Soviet satellites in Central Europe. But from the very beginning of NATO expansion in the mid-1990s, Russian officials and commentators—including liberal reformists—warned that an offer of NATO membership to Georgia and Ukraine would bring confrontation with the West and an acute danger of war. These warnings were echoed by George Kennan, the original architect of the strategy to contain the USSR and the State Department’s greatest ever Russia expert, as well as by Henry Kissinger and other leading American statesmen.

Healthcare Executives Import 1,000 Nurses a Month for American Jobs
[Breitbart] U.S. hospitals and staffing companies are extracting roughly 1,000 nurses each month from poor countries instead of recruiting and training Americans for the nursing jobs, say media reports.

The New York Times newspaper described the extraction migration process on January 24:

About 1,000 nurses are arriving in the United States each month from African nations, the Philippines and the Caribbean, said Sinead Carbery, president of O’Grady Peyton International, an international recruiting firm. While the United States has long drawn nurses from abroad, she said demand from American health care facilities is the highest she’s seen in three decades. There are an estimated 10,000 foreign nurses with U.S. job offers on waiting lists for interviews at American embassies around the world for the required visas.

This medical migration of nurses and doctors “ultimately is about the money” for the medical sector, said Kevin Lynn, founder of Doctors Without Jobs.

The New York Times article admitted the central role of economics in the healthcare migration with a headline saying: “Rich Countries Lure Health Workers From Low-Income Nations to Fight Shortages.” That’s a sharp break from the newspaper’s usual migration coverage, which overwhelmingly focussed on migrant family dramas rather than economic impacts.
Still, "America evil, selfish, Trumpish"
“The medical establishment, just like any other corporation, is looking for efficiency — faster, cheaper,” said Lynn, who campaigns for American medical graduates who lose vital training slots in government-funded residency programs to imported foreign medical graduates.

The coronavirus crash has highlighted the hidden process of healthcare extraction.

Business groups and their immigration lawyers have long argued for rules that would allow them to import an unlimited number of low-wage healthcare employees. “The [annual] cap [of 85,000 work visas] should be repealed altogether for the healthcare sector, as it is for the university and non-profit sector already,” advocate Daniel Griswold told the House committee on small business in 2019. Griswold is a director at the Koch-funded Mercatus Center in Arlington, VA. The demands got louder during the coronavirus crash but went nowhere while President Donald Trump was in office.

President Joe Biden’s deputies are now opening more doorways for employers to hire foreign white-collar workers — despite rising public concerns about the loss of many Fortune 500 jobs to corporate-recruited H-1B visa workers. Already, roughly 1.5 million U.S. jobs are held by visa workers instead of by Americans, so forcing down wages for many white-collar jobs.

#2  Have seen it 1st hand here in GA.

I hate say this, but they are desperately needed.
The Local area US Nurses burned out from months/years of overwork and trying to handle 2x++ the normal patient load with limited supplies.

GREAT Staff, polite, conversational and extremely good with English and Spanish. The furthest VISA traveling nurse I had was from Pakistan. Along with Brazil, Panama, England and several others.

A few acknowledged despite given the Room & Board issues they are making 3x to 5+x what they would back hone.

Government Corruption
Report: Chuck Schumer Receives Campaign Donations from Russian Pipeline-Linked Affiliates
[Breitbart] Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who helped block sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 project, received campaign donations from corporate PACs affiliated with two of the European companies that helped fund the pipeline, according to a report from the Washington Free Beacon.

The corporate political action committees of ENGIE North America and BASF Corporation, two affiliates of European companies that are associated with the funding for Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline, gave $2,500 campaign contributions to Schumer’s campaign in September, according to records with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the report stated.
Reportedly, the parent company for ENGIE North America and a subsidiary for BASF are part of the group of five businesses that financed the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany.

The Free Beacon wrote:

The contributions to Schumer came amid an aggressive lobbying effort in Washington over sanctions on the 764-mile pipeline. The five European companies that back Nord Stream 2—Wintershall, ENGIE, Uniper, Shell, and OMV—have paid millions of dollars to lobbying firms to block sanctions.

Nord Stream 2 AG, the Swiss company that is building the pipeline, lobbies Congress through Democratic donor Vincent Roberti. Roberti gave maximum donations of $5,800 to Schumer and other Senate Democrats last year, Axios reported. Thomas McLarty, the founder of McLarty Inbound, a firm that lobbies for the five European companies, in April gave $2,500 to Schumer.

ENGIE North America, a subsidiary of the French firm ENGIE, contributed to Schumer’s campaign on Sept. 9. BASF, the parent company of Wintershall, donated to Schumer on Sept. 22. ENGIE also contributed to Schumer’s campaign in 2020, while BASF gave to the Senate leader in 2016, according to FEC records. Each member of the European consortium loaned 1 billion euros to Nord Stream 2 AG in 2017. Nord Stream 2 AG is controlled by Russian state oil company Gazprom. Nord Stream 2 AG’s chief executive officer, Matthias Warnig, is a Putin ally and former officer of the East German secret police.

All of this occurred as Schumer reportedly blocked requests from Senate Republicans for legislation to enforce sanctions on the Russian pipeline project after President Joe Biden waived sanctions last year. At the time, Biden said that the pipeline was almost complete and imposing sanctions would be “counter-productive” for European relations.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) attempted to pass legislation earlier this month but failed after Senate Democrats used the filibuster, which they are busy trying to eliminate, to block his legislation. The bill only had 55 votes, short of the filibuster’s required 60 votes to end debate and move to a final vote.

The Free Beacon noted that neither Schumer’s office nor ENGIE North America returned a comment request. But a spokesman for BASF illuded that its American subsidiary does not lobby members of Congress on the Nord Stream 2 and that Wintershall does not have a presence in the U.S. “Any implied connection between our Employee PAC contributions and Nord Stream 2 is incorrect,” the spokesman said.

Report: Law Firms Donated $15 Million to Democrat Groups After Receiving Government Contracts
[Breitbart] A group of eight law firms donated $15 million to Democrat organizations after receiving funds from government contracts, according to a report by Alliance for Consumers.

Lieff Cabraser, Motley Rice, Baron & Budd, Grant & Eisenhofer, Berger Montague, Cohen Milstein, and Simmons Hanly make up the “shady eight” law firms who donated millions to Democrats. These firms represent local governments in litigation or have statewide contracts “in places like Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico, and New Jersey.”

These “Shady Eight” firms generated at least $15 million in combined political donations from 2017-2020 to committees and candidates in the Federal Election Commission (FEC) tracking system. That is the total given by the firms directly, their 1,300 or so combined lawyers, and other employees and staff.

Of these $15 million in political donations, a massive 99 percent of combined contributions went to Democrat campaigns and allied political committees. For example, a mere $30 was donated to Republican candidates or committees at the law firm Lieff Cabraser during the three-year timeframe.

About 40% of the money (approximately $6 million) went to the political committees that form the professionalized superstructure of the Democratic Party.

Over $4 million of the money generated by the Shady Eight went to the Biden Presidential campaign effort and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Over $4 million flowed into Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) that supports them. And over $2 million went to Democratic candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that bolsters those candidates.

The report also criticized the government contracts the law firms earned for “missing basic protections that should be in all outside-counsel contracts.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Biden Family Planned to Share Office Space with Company Employing ‘F**king Spy Chief of China'
[Breitbart] Hunter Biden planned to share his family’s office space in Washington, DC, with a Chinese intelligence-linked firm that employed a man Hunter described as “the f**king spy chief of China,” according to Peter Schweizer’s new bombshell book Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win.

According to the book, Hunter Biden planned in 2017 to set up an office in Washington that would house his businesses, his father’s Biden Foundation, and a representative of a Chinese global energy company he had cultivated close ties to, CEFC China Energy.

Hunter Biden had developed a close working relationship with CEFC’s Chairman and majority owner Ye Jianming beginning at the end of 2015 after associates put them in touch. Ye had a number of ties to Chinese military intelligence and his company provided energy to China’s People’s Liberation Army.

Despite those alarming links, Hunter became Ye’s personal counsel in the U.S., essentially becoming a representative for “an intelligence- and military-linked Chinese company that was supporting voices calling for an aggressive military posture against the United States and its allies,” according to the book.

Hunter Biden and his family were also involved in CEFC’s plans to invest in U.S. infrastructure through two entities — Hudson West IV and SinoHawk. In fact, Biden made it clear to Tony Bobulinski, a financial planner he brought in to help with the infrastructure efforts, that his family was integral to the effort.

After Hunter was unhappy with the payment package he was going to receive from the venture — an $850,000 salary and 20 percent equity stake, as well as 10 percent of the equity for “the Big Guy [Joe Biden]” — he wrote to Bobulinski that Ye and his company are “both coming to be MY partner and to be partners with the Biden.”

Hunter would then seek to fuse his family and CEFC further with the shared office in Washington.

“In 2017, he made plans to house his businesses, the Biden Foundation, one of his father’s offices, and CEFC together in an office space in Washington,” Schweizer writes, adding:

In an email for signage, Hunter said he had “new office mates: Joe Biden Jill Biden Jim Biden Gongwen Dong (Chairman Ye CEFC emissary),” and that, “I would like the office sign to reflect the following The Biden Foundation Hudson West (CEFC U.S.) The lease will remain under my company’s name Rosemont Seneca.”

Gongwen Dong, like Ye, had “notable ties to those embedded in Chinese intelligence and foreign influence operations,” Schweizer writes.

In addition to being CEFC’s emissary, Dong was also the chief financial officer at the Beijing-based Radiance Property Holdings, a firm controlled and run by Lam Ting Keung, a businessman with deep connections to “united front” groups linked to Chinese intelligence.

United front groups often serve as covers for Chinese intelligence operations, Schweizer notes. According to a 2018 U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission report, China uses the groups work to “co-opt and neutralize source of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party.”

Despite these links, Hunter Biden and Dong on September 8, 2017, were able to apply for secure a line of credit and add James Biden and his wife, Sara Biden, as authorized users for the credit cards on the account. James and Sara Biden then spent $100,000 on luxury items.

In addition to Ye and Dong, CEFC had another Chinese intelligence-linked man in the Bidens’ orbit — Patrick Ho, who Hunter Biden called “the f**king spy chief of China” in a leaked phone call.

Ho was one of Ye’s “top lieutenants” and a senior executive with China Energy Fund Committee, CEFC’s nonprofit think tank. Ho had also once been the home affairs secretary in Hong Kong and was also a “tireless advocate” for Chinese Communist Party Chairman Xi Jinping’s “signature venture” at the United Nations.

Shortly after plans were in place to put Dong in a shared office space with the Biden family, Ho was arrested in New York City on bribery charges by the FBI in November 2017.

Ho had reportedly offered money to African officials as part of an operation involving channelling illicit payments to UN diplomats.

One of Ho’s first phone calls from jail was to James Biden, looking for Hunter Biden. CEFC then hired Hunter Biden to provide legal representation in the case, despite his lack of a background in criminal defense law. CEFC paid a $1 million retainer to Biden’s LLC, Owasco. Ho pleaded guilty and went to jail.

However, before Ho went to jail, Hunter Biden was provided a Chinese assistant named JiaQi Bao. Her master’s degree from China’s Tsinghua University was financed by the Chinese government, and she worked for the Chinese government’s National Development and reform Commission, which is responsible for the management of China’s economy.

According to Schweizer, Bao offered Hunter Biden advice on “everything from energy deals to his father’s presidential campaign.” She also handled a “monthly wire instruction” concerning the transfer of financial payments.

CUNY professors sue faculty union over controversial anti-Israel resolution
[IsraelTimes] Six faculty members, five of whom are Jewish, claim they were subjected to hostile work environment on basis of religion, challenge union’s monopoly to represent them

Calling their faculty union "anti-Semitic, anti-Jewish, and anti-Israel," six professors at the City University of New York have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit challenging what they call the union’s "monopoly" power to represent them.

The suit stems from a June 2021 resolution from the union, known as the Professional Staff Congress, condemning Israel for "the continued subjection of Paleostinians," and a subsequent call by the union for its state chapters to consider supporting the academic boycott of Israel.

The plaintiffs claim that in the wake of the resolution and its follow-up, they were subjected to a hostile work environment on the basis of religion, and had no choice but to resign from the union. The suit asserts that the plaintiffs have a right to fair representation despite no longer being members of the PSC.

Five of the six plaintiffs — Avraham Goldstein, Michael Goldstein, Frimette Kass-Shraibman, Mitchell Langbert, Jeffrey Lax and Maria Pagano — are Jewish.

The suit claims that in the case of Lax, a professor at Kingsborough Community College, "CUNY and PSC leaders discriminated against him, retaliated against him, and subjected him to a hostile work environment on the basis of religion."

Another plaintiff, Michael Goldstein, an administrator and adjunct professor at Kingsborough Community College, has experienced "anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist attacks from members of PSC, including what he sees as bullying, harassment, destruction of property, calls for him to be fired, organization of student attacks against him, and threats against him and his family," according to the suit.

Although spurred by the union’s moves on Israel, the substance of the suit is a challenge to the union’s power to organize and negotiate on the part of public employees. Two organizations that frequently challenge the legal authority given to unions — The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and The Fairness Center — are providing free legal assistance to the plaintiffs. The lawsuit challenges a New York State law that allows unions to minimize the representation of public employees who are not union members.

Goldstein called the faculty union "effectively a state-sanctioned monopoly."

"By forcing these professors into a union collective against their will, the state of New York mandates that they associate with union officials and other union members who take positions that are deeply offensive to these professors’ most fundamental beliefs," said Mark Mix, prescient of the National Right to Work Foundation, in a blurb.

The plaintiffs also named New York State comptroller Thomas DiNapoli as a defendant in the lawsuit because union dues are being taken out of their paycheck even though they resigned the PSC.

In response, Frank Clark, a spokesperson for PSC, called the lawsuit "meritless," and "just another attempt to erode the power of organized labor to fight for better pay and working conditions and a more just society."

In August, CUNY President James Davis called the anti-Israel resolution "problematic," and said that "any position the union develops on Israel and Paleostine should be preceded by a conversation among the members in our chapters."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian rights activist’s husband says she was sentenced to prison, lashes
[IsraelTimes] Narges Mohammadi was arrested in November after she attended memorial for victim of violent mostly peaceful 2019 protests, is accused of spying for Saudis

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
has sentenced a prominent human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
activist to more than eight years in prison, according to her husband.

Gay Paree-based Taghi Rahmani tweeted on Sunday that his wife, Narges Mohammadi, was tried in five minutes and sentenced to prison and 70 lashes. He has said she is prohibited from communicating and has no access to lawyers. Last week, she was sent to Gharchak prison near Tehran.

Authorities arrested Mohammadi in November after she attended a memorial for a victim of violent mostly peaceful 2019 protests. Rahmani said in December his wife stood accused of "spying for Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
Mohammadi has a long history of imprisonment, harsh sentences and international calls for reviews of her case.

In May, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
called on Iran to reconsider her sentence of 30 months in prison and 80 lashes on charges of protesting the killing of protesters during the country’s 2019 unrest.

Mohammadi confirmed her sentence at the time in an Instagram post, saying she does not "accept any of these sentences."

In the post, Mohammadi said one of the charges against her is having a party and dancing in jail.

She was released from jail in October 2020, after serving eight and a half years in prison, after her initial, 10-year sentence was commuted. In that case, she was sentenced in Tehran’s Revolutionary Court on charges including planning crimes to harm the security of Iran, spreading propaganda against the government and forming and managing an illegal group.

Before imprisonment, Mohammadi was vice president of the banned Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran.

Mohammadi has been close to Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi, who founded the center. Ebadi left Iran after the disputed re-election of then-president Mahmoud Short Round Ahmadinejad in 2009, which touched off unprecedented protests and harsh crackdowns by authorities.

In 2018, Mohammadi, an engineer, was awarded the 2018 Andrei Sakharov Prize.

Scores of Germany based Khalistan operatives on NIA’s radar
[OneIndia] With the name of a Khalistani terrorist cropping up in various cases in Punjab, the National Investigation Agency has reached out to its German counterparts for more information.

The NIA is seeking more information on Jaswinder Singh Multan
...Home of the Multan Sultans...
i, a member of the Sikhs for Justice, a proscribed organization in India. The NIA has also announced a Rs 10 lakh reward on Multani after his name cropped up in the Ludhiana blast case.

Multani was detained in Germany following a tip off from New Delhi. He was however released after he provided an affidavit promising to cooperate with the probe.

The NIA has so far booked nine people including Multani on charges of attempting to revive terrorism in Punjab. Several pro-Khalistan elements have been operating from Germany and are aiding the revival of terror in Punjab. Further there are Interpol notices pending against four of the suspects. They are Gurmeet Singh Bagaga,Shamider Singh, Bhupinder Singh Bhinda of the SJF and Babbar Khalsa International operative, Harjot SIngh.

Bhinda had had been sentenced to four years in jail by a court in Frankfurt in 2012 for attempting to kill the Radha Saomi Beas Dera head when he visited Germany in 2010. Bhinda who had entered Germany using a fake passport is a close associate of Pakistain based operative Ranjit Singh Neeta.

Officials say that the Germany module has been instrumental in raising funds. An official tells OneIndia that a German national named Avtar Singh is on their radar for both raising funds and recruitments. He is also accused of sending recruits from Germany to both Italia and Pakistain.

Bagga on the other hand was accused of trying to kill a Dera chief in Vienna. Bagga according to officials is instrumental in smuggling weapons from Pakistain to Punjab. For now the biggest catch for the NIA would be Multani. He is active and continues to play an important role in operations of the Khalsitanis both internationally as well as in India. Apart from the Ludhiana blast, he was also involved in the Grenade attack at Nawanshahr was the handiwork of his team.

Harjot Singh also a key player had moved to Thailand on a fake Nepalese passport. He is a primary fund raiser. Following his escape to Thailand, he moved into Pakistain and then to Germany where he applied for asylum. All these persons have applied for asylum.

Multani at the behest of a Babbar Khalsa terrorist from Pakistain conspired and carried out the attack.

They were also in the process of undertaking more such attacks.

The Intelligence agencies had learnt that a Germany based Khalistan terrorist and another from the Babbar Khalsa in Pakistain had planned this attack after being tasked by the ISI.

The Babbar Khalsa terrorist who is currently in Pakistain has been identified as Harvinder Singh Sandhu, while the Khalistan supporter based in Germany is Jaswinder SIngh Multani.

Both had coordinated with each other and planned the attack. The attack was first of the many other acts of terror they had planned to destabilise Punjab, an Intelligence Bureau official told this correspondent.

Sandhu according to the IB official is also wanted in scores of cases that include cross border smuggling. Sandhu is wanted in 30 different cases that include murder, smuggling of arms and ammunition, drug peddling etc.

Pakistan planning big operation: Keeps 100s of terrorists waiting at border
[OneIndia] While several alerts have been issued ahead of Republic Day, the Border Security Force has said that nearly 100 forces of Evil were present at the launch pads along the India-Pakistain border and are waiting to be launched.

While the situation is under control, the Inspector General of the Border Security Force, Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, Raja Babu Singh said in Srinagar, that there are reports that there are 104 to 135 present at the launch pads waiting to infiltrate.

He also added that a heightened vigil is being maintained after a few local guides crossed the Line of Control. We are maintaining a vigil on them and their families, he also added.

There has been a lot of activity in the border areas. An Intelligence Bureau official tells OneIndia that with the number of forces of Evil in the Valley dropping, Pakistain is on a mission to get more of them to infiltrate and keep Jammu and Kashmir on the boil.

Following the agreement on the cease fire between India and Pakistain, the situation has by and large remained normal.

However there have been several activities such as narcotics and arms smuggling, tunnels being built for infiltration that have been reported. In 2021, the BSG had seized 17 weapons and over 900 rounds of ammunition, 30 bombs and 38 kilograms of narcotics. The BSF had carried out anti-tunnel drives along the International Border. It detected two tunnels as a result of which a huge dent in the infiltration attempts by Pakistain was caused.

As much as 38.160 kg of narcotics, four AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines, 339 rounds of AK ammunition, 13 pistols, 32 pistol magazines, 371 pistol ammunition, 13 grenades, 233 other ammunition, 16 metres of cordtex wire (a kind of detonating wire), a wireless set, six mobile sets, a radio receiver, 13 detonators, 15 detonator fuses and four sticky mobs were among the recoveries made by the BSF along the International Border, the officials said, according to PTI.

The BSF troops also seized about 10.93 kg of narcotics from Akhnoor along with fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 2,75,000, they said.

The troops also neutralised a Pak man who was trying to smuggle a consignment of narcotics from Kathua border. About 27.25 kg of drugs was seized from his possession, they said, the report also said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Islamic Movement elects new spiritual leader seen as close to Ra’am’s MK Abbas
[IsraelTimes] Safwat Freij, a resident of Kafr Qasim, widely seen as agreeing with pragmatic line espoused by coalition party

The Southern Islamic Movement
... the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Israel, based in Kafr Qasim near Tel Aviv. The Northern Branch is the militant wing, based in Umm al Fahm in the Galilee, which coordinates with Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, and Erdogan’s Turkey. An estimated 10% of Israel’s Arabs are connected to either the Northern or Southern Branch, if only through their charities...
has elected a new spiritual leader over the weekend, replacing Sheikh Hamad Abu Daabes, who led the faction for 12 years.

The Islamic Movement said on Saturday night that Sheikh Safwat Freij had been elected to the organization’s top spot. Observers widely saw Freij’s election as good news for Ra’am party leader Mansour Abbas, as the sheikh is considered to be close to Abbas and to share his worldview.

Freij, from the central Arab city of Kafr Qasim, previously served as the Islamic Movement’s deputy chief and ran a charitable organization on the faction’s behalf. Freij’s father was killed during a notorious massacre committed by Israeli police in the city during the Suez Crisis in 1956.

Founded in the 1980s, the Islamic Movement was thrust into the spotlight over the past year when its political branch, the Islamist Ra’am party, joined the coalition government.

The movement is informally divided between its more radical "northern" branch, led by Sheikh Raed Salah, and the "southern" leadership, until recently led by Daabes, which is considered more moderate. Israel banned the northern branch for alleged terror ties in 2015, and Salah recently finished serving over a year in prison for incitement.

In contrast to some of his firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
predecessors, Abbas has adopted a pragmatic approach.

In remarks that stirred controversy among Arab Israelis, Abbas said in late November that Arabs should strategically cease contesting Israel’s Jewish character.

"Israel was born a Jewish state, that was the decision of the people, and the question is not what is the identity of the state — it was born this way and it will remain this way," Abbas said at the time.

Freij defeated his main opponent, Sheikh Mohammad Salameh Hassan, by a vote of 293-214. Hassan was considered to represent a more traditional approach for the Islamic Movement, referring to Israel’s government as an "occupation government" and calling all Israelis "settlers."

Europe
Taliban Delegation Lands in Europe, Immediately Reported to Police for War Crimes
Hattip Gloria Pruitt. Also *snicker*.
[Breitbart] Taliban
...Arabic for students...
member Anas Haqqani, head of the terrorist Haqqani network
...a branch of the Afghan Taliban, based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the later Jalaluddin Haqqani...
, was reported to Norwegian police for war crimes during a Taliban delegation visit to the country.

The police report was filed by Norwegian-Afghan media scientist Zahir Athari, who called for the arrest of Anas Haqqani — whose brother is Afghan interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
— who landed in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
on Satuirday as part of a Taliban delegation visiting Norway for talks with the U.S., UK, EU, and others. Athari said of his reporting one of the members of the delegation: "The Norwegian authorities must stand next to the victims — the Afghan people."

"He and his network have been behind the most deadly attacks against the civilian population in Afghanistan since 2001. It hurts that he comes as a respected guest here in Norway, instead of being handcuffed to the bench in the Human Rights Court in The Hague," Athari told broadcaster NRK.

"Inviting them on a private plane to Norway is nothing more than just a dialogue. The dialogue could have been just as good if it were taking place in Afghanistan or Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries, without giving the Taliban the honour of getting on a private plane to Norway," he added.

Biden says ‘no intention’ of US or NATO forces entering Ukraine

Putin holds all the cards and will come out ahead regardless of what Brandon's masters tell their puppet to do. If the puppet master is truly Ron Klain, aka "the prime minister," then it's highly unlikely the US will end up doing anything at all.

Klain is clearly the force that is driving Brandon to the left. It's Klain who pissed off Joe Manchin and torpedoed Brandon's legislation with his bully-boy tactics.

Klain is an old lefty who works closely with the little Bolshevik rep from WA and other squaddies. After he was chief of staff to VP Al Gore, Klain worked for lefty Wesley Clark and then for Kerry.

Whatever the lefty-Marxist policy is on Ukraine (I doubt these idiots have given the matter more than 2 minutes' thought), count on Ron Klain to advance it with his usual blundering, bullying energy. Heaven help us.

Turkey’s sock puppets shell Kurd villages in Ain Issa

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Tuesday, it had thwarted the attacks of ISIS sleeper cells on al-Sina’a prison in the Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah city, northeast Syria on January 20.

"The ISIS attacks came with the Ottoman Turkish occupation and its affiliated mercenaries launching ground and air attacks on our forces and civilians’ homes in Ain Issa," the center said.

"On January 22, the Ottoman Turkish occupation barbarically shelled the populated villages of Hoshan, al-Khalidiya, al-Mu’allaq, al-Musheirfa, Jahbal, al-Hesha, al-Salihiya, al-Qadiriyah, al-Fatsa, and al-Arisha, resulting in the killing of three civilians and the injury of 11 others," the Media Center added.

On January 23, the Ottoman Turkish forces and their affiliated armed factions attempted to launch a ground attack on the village of Bir Issa.

"The vigilance of our forces, however, thwarted the attack. Strong festivities erupted between our forces and mercenaries, in which 10 members of the factions were killed and two others were maimed, two military vehicles and points of the factions were destroyed."

According to the SDF Media Center, "10 members of the armed factions were killed and two others were maimed. Three civilians bit the dust in the battles and festivities with Ottoman Turkish-backed opposition factions."

Croatian president ready to withdraw all Croatian soldiers from Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Croatia has nothing to do with the crisis in Ukraine, and in the event of an escalation of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, Zagreb will withdraw all Croatian soldiers from Ukrainian territory. This was announced on January 25 by Croatian President Zoran Milanovic .

"I read reports according to which NATO is increasing its presence and sending some reconnaissance vessels. We have nothing in common with this and will not have anything in common, I guarantee you that. We will not send anyone, and if there is an escalation, we will recall everyone to the last Croatian military," the HRT channel reports Milanovic’s words.

According to the Croatian president, the conflict in Ukraine is by no means connected with Russia, but with "the dynamics of American domestic politics and President Biden." He noted that the new US administration is enduring pressure from its own "hawks" and Republicans, who demand that Biden pursue a tough course towards Moscow.

"These events take place in the 'hallway' of the Russian capital – Moscow. A solution that will take into account Russia's security interests must be found. There are methods to preserve Ukraine as an integral state, or at least 99% of its territory, and at the same time provide it with economic assistance," Milanovich believes.

Recall that earlier the leadership of Croatia advised Kiev to resolve the issue with the DPR and LPR, taking into account the Croatian experience in relation to the Republic of Serbian Krajina, which was destroyed in 1995 as a result of Operation Storm.

Croatia is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
How Zelensky's ‘war’ will be similar to Saakashvili's ‘blitzkrieg’
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
By Aleksandr Kots

[KP] Just for fixing. The war in South Ossetia in 2008 began on the opening day of the Beijing Olympics - on the night of August 8th.

Today there is a feeling that the world is again on the verge of war. And on February 4, the Olympics begin again in the capital of China.

Deja vu?

Then, after all, all the power of Western propaganda also convinced that big clubfoot Russia attacked small proud Georgia. So, we spoiled the holiday of sports.

For a whole year, the EU special commission found out who unleashed the conflict in South Ossetia. The answer was unequivocal - Mikheil Saakashvili gave the order to fire "Grads" on the sleeping Tskhinval.

And Russia has already responded. And she answered, according to the EU Commission, "disproportionately tough."

That is, Moscow is still to blame, but at least it is not the aggressor.

And in February 2014, the Olympics were already spoiled by Russia. Against the backdrop of the Games in Sochi, the main topic was the news from the Kiev Maidan. Which again, we did not organize. On the contrary, they even tried to help Yanukovych overcome the crisis.

But it all ended in a massacre under the coordination of the US Embassy and the coming to power of Russophobes. Russia's answer is the departure of Crimea from all this national tent.

It is easy to imagine that this time too, Vladimir Zelensky, with a kick from Washington, will arrange a "war" in the Donbass. Well, the Olympics. Putin will fly to Beijing. How not to seize the moment?

Then it is worth reminding Zelensky that the enforcement of peace in Georgia in 2008 ended not only with the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but also with the restoration of their territories within Soviet borders.

The DPR and LPR today occupy only a "stump" - 1/3 of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Mariupol, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk remained under the control of Kiev. Donbass is waiting for Ukraine to return these lands and cities.

German woman goes on trial in Germany for joining ISIS

A woman who fled Germany as a teenager to join ISIS in Syria goes on trial on Tuesday accused of aiding crimes against humanity. Leonora Messing was just 15 when she fled her home in Sangerhausen, Germany, and became a high-profile jihadi bride.

Messing reached Raqqa, then the so-called at the time ’capital’ of ISIS in Syria in 2015, before wedding fellow German national and krazed killer Martin Lemke, also known as Nihad Abu Yasir.
She was only his third wife, and his second German wife at that.
Her father, Maik Messing, 49, revealed his shock at his radicalised daughter’s decision to join a deadly terror group when he penned the book Leonora in 2019.

He revealed that just days after she vanished he received a text message saying Leonora ’chose Allah and Islam’ and had ’arrived in the caliphate’.

Messing, now aged 21, is in the dock in the eastern German city of Halle on suspicion that she and her ISIS husband
...himself accused of being an early arrival who worked his way up to the Islamic State group's Amniyat intelligence service, he brought both German wives with him when he surrendered to the SDF. The other wife is Sabina, age 37 ...
enslaved a Yezidi woman in Syria in 2015.

The behind-closed-doors trial, scheduled to last until at least mid-May, will also try Messing on charges of membership of a terrorist organization and weapons law violations.

Her high-profile case has dominated conversations across her homeland, with Germans questioning how a teenage girl from a tiny town could fall into the hands of the Islamist cause.

California CBP officers discover 2 women hidden in locked trunk of car crossing US-Mexico border
One to cook and one to clean?
Escaping California ?
[FoxNews] U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers inspecting vehicles crossing the Mexican border into California discovered two illegal immigrant women hidden in a secret compartment of a car.

CBP officers made the discovery on Wednesday at the San Ysidro port of entry, located just south of San Diego. San Ysidro is one of the busiest crossings in the U.S.

Around 5:30 p.m., a CBP officer conducting inspections for entry into the U.S. noticed a "nervous" looking 66-year-old man driving a gray 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, CBP said. The officer took the man aside for further inspection of the vehicle.

A human and drug detector dog alerted officers to the underside of the Hyundai’s trunk. Officers checked the area and discovered a built-in compartment in the rear trunk area and found two women hiding inside.

The officers had to remove the screws and covers for the compartment to help the two individuals get out. CBP said the women were both Mexican citizens, ages 25 and 37, with no legal documentation to enter the U.S.

"It’s incredibly dangerous for people to be placed inside a vehicle compartment they can’t get themselves out of," said Sidney Aki, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. "These two women were lucky that their attempt to try and enter the U.S. illegally this way didn’t end in serious injury or worse."

CBP said the women will be deported to Mexico and the driver will face smuggling charges. No further information was released.

Ukraine arrests saboteurs 'co-ordinated by Russian special services' who were planning 'a series of armed attacks' aimed at destabilising border regions
[Daily Mail UK via InstaPundit] Ukraine says it has arrested Russian-backed saboteurs who were plotting attacks in border regions with the aim of 'destabilising' the country.

The 'criminal' group was preparing a 'series of armed attacks' on city infrastructure 'coordinated by Russian special service', Ukraine's SBU security service said today.

Two men, one of them a Russian citizen, were arrested during raids in Kharkiv, close to the Russian border, and Zhytomyr, in western Ukraine, today.

Agents say the pair had been recruiting other men - mostly Russians with criminal histories - under the guise of a security company to take part in the attacks.

It comes amid a build-up of Russian troops near Ukraine, with the US warning Moscow may launch 'false flag' attacks in border regions to justify an invasion.

Bill Hemmer calls out COVID-19 tests branded 'Made in China'
[FOX] Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer Tuesday said he received his free COVID-19 tests through the mail under President Biden's new testing initiative, but noted the at-home kits were "made in China."

Hemmer, co-host of "America's Newsroom," praised the federal government and the United States Postal Service (USPS) for getting the tests out quickly after he and many other Americans put in the request last week for free tests. But he noted when he turned the test package over the "fine print" revealed the tests were manufactured in China.

"I got mine yesterday," Hemmer said, holding up the orange kit. "All four of them came. Congrats U.S. government. U.S. Postal Service did a great job. Got my four tests. And on the back of the fine print, Dana, it is made in China."

"Of course," replied co-host Dana Perino.

Hope seen overall once the omicron wave increases global immunity
[Dallas Morning News] World health officials are offering hope that the ebbing of the omicron wave could give way to a new, more manageable phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, even as they warn of difficult weeks ahead and the possibility of another, more dangerous variant arising.
Don't say we didn't warn you!
In the U.S., cases have crested and are dropping rapidly, following a pattern seen in Britain and South Africa, with researchers projecting a period of low spread in many countries by the end of March. Though U.S. deaths — now at 2,000 each day — are still rising, new hospital admissions have started to fall, and a drop in deaths is expected to follow.

The encouraging trends after two years of self inflicted coronavirus misery have brought a noticeably hopeful tone from health experts. Rosy predictions have crumbled before, but this time they are backed by what could be called omicron’s silver lining: The highly contagious variant will leave behind extremely high levels of immunity.
Whoa! A new development! Up until now, saying anything about 'natural immunity' could get you de-platformed.
On Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci talked on ABC "This Week" about a "best-case scenario" where COVID-19 would fall to manageable levels so the United States could get "back to a degree of normality."
Like when you weren't on the TV all the time? Normal, like, where nobody knew your name?
And on Monday, the World Health Organization issued a statement anticipating an end to the "emergency phase" of the pandemic this year and saying that the omicron variant "offers plausible hope for stabilization and normalization."
Who's on first?
Both Fauci and the WHO’s Europe regional director, Dr. Hans Kluge, cautioned that new variants are likely to emerge, but with vaccination, new untested, expensivedrug therapies and — during surges — useless, virtuous activities, like testing and masks, the world could reach a less disruptive level of disease in which the virus is, as Fauci put it, "essentially integrated into the general respiratory infections that we have learned to live with."
But can we learn to live without Tony?
I’m certainly willing to try.
Falling, too, are new U.S. hospital admissions of patients with confirmed COVID-19. They are averaging nearly 20,000 per day, down about 7% from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Those numbers include patients who went to the hospital for other reasons and tested false positive. But even after accounting for these incidental infections, the trend is hopeful.

Cotton presses Cardona on teachers union letter urging social media to stifle opposition to CRT
[FoxNews] Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., sent a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding answers on a teachers union letter that followed closely after the National School Boards Association (NSBA) letter comparing concerned parents to domestic terrorists.

Shortly after the infamous NSBA letter – which the NSBA later revoked and for which it apologized – National Education Association (NEA) sent a letter urging social media companies to silence "propaganda" about critical race theory (CRT), which had supposedly stoked "a small but violent group of radicalized parents." Newly revealed documents show that the White House helped draft the NSBA letter and other documents suggest that Cardona solicited the NSBA letter (a claim a Department of Education spokesperson has denied).

"Big Tech’s potential censorship of concerned parents would be a chilling addition to the Biden administration’s efforts to intimidate parents seeking a greater role in their children’s education," Cotton wrote in his Monday letter to Cardona.

NSBA sent its letter on Sept. 29, warning that school boards face "physical threats" due to opposition to COVID-19 policies and critical race theory. After the Department of Justice issued an Oct. 4 memorandum that echoed the letter, NSBA issued an apology for it on Oct. 22. NEA sent its letter on Oct. 8.

Cotton noted that the NEA's Oct. 8 letter came nine days after the NSBA letter and is "remarkably similar" to that notorious missive.

"Specifically, this letter singled out ‘radicalized adults who falsely believe that graduate level courses about racism are being taught in K-12 public schools,'" Cotton wrote. "This statement appears to be a thinly veiled reference to parents who are concerned about critical race theory, a radical ideology that claims America is a fundamentally racist country and attributes moral characteristics to people on the basis of race."

"The letter also decried a ‘small yet vocal group of extremists who are putting the safety of our children, educators, and families at risk over the notion that wearing a mask is in infringement on personal liberty,’" the senator added. "NEA accused groups concerned about curricula based on critical race theory and restrictive mask policies of spreading ‘propaganda’ and ‘lies’ on social media and requested that social-media companies ‘stamp out’ such speech."

Cotton wrote that "the implication of both" the NEA and the NSBA letters "is the same: individuals opposed to critical race theory and mask mandates in schools are potential domestic terrorists. Recent reporting indicates that you asked the NSBA to write its letter to President Biden. Similarities in the timing and content of the NEA letter raise the troubling possibility that you or your staff may have had a hand in that letter, as well."

To break prison siege in Hasakah, ISIS attacks SDF in Deir ez Zor

On Tuesday, ISIS, through media close to it, claimed the responsibility of targeting sites and military patrol of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of Diban, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

The ISIS Amaq News published a statement saying that ISIS members targeted an SDF military point in the town of Diban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor with machine guns and rocket propelled grenades which led to its damage.

"A patrol was providing support to the SDF military point, but ISIS members targeted it with automatic weapons, which led to the injury of a number of them," it added on its website.

The SDF thwarted an ISIS armed attack on a military post and patrol of its forces in al-Latwa neighborhood in the town of Diban, a military source from the SDF told North Press yesterday.

The SDF fighters clashed, for more than half an hour, with the ISIS members and forced them to withdraw and hide among civilians’ homes. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
no SDF casualties were recorded, according to the source.

The attacks in Deir ez-Zor coincide with the ongoing besiege by the SDF of ISIS members in al-Sina’a prison and pursuing its sleeper cells in its vicinity.

Yesterday, ISIS escalated many of its attacks against SDF in areas in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where the organization targeted 5 military checkpoints of the SDF.

[Garowe] The US Africa Command is still training Somalia's Special Forces dubbed Danab, General Stephen Townsend has said, noting that despite the withdrawal of the American forces, Washington is still keen to help Somalia defeat al-Shabaab

Last year, former US President Donald Trump

sanctioned the withdrawal of close to 800 US soldiers from Somalia, who was responsible for training the Danab Special Forces, a contingent of Somali National Army [SNA], besides providing aerial surveillance to allied forces.

The soldiers were repositioned to Kenya and Djibouti by the Department of Defense which has been closely monitoring the situation in the troubled Horn of Africa nation battling with instability for decades.

In an interview with the Voice of America, Townsend, who is the Commander of US Africa Command, said there are still close to 100 soldiers offering training to the Danab Special Forces in Somalia.

"If increased pressure is not applied to al-Shabaab, I'm concerned there's going to be a significant al-Shabaab attack," he told VOA.

In Somalia, where local and international partners are battling the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab, U.S. forces have continued to "commute to work" while leaving fewer than 100 troops in the war-torn country.

Donald Trump ordered most of the 800 U.S. troops out of Somalia in 2020 in one of his last foreign policy moves as American president.

"We are working hard to get our tasks done. I think that there are more effective and efficient ways to do that. We’ve provided those recommendations to the secretary of defense, and we're waiting for decisions there," Townsend said.

Six charged with smuggling weapons, ammo to violent Mexican drug cartel
[FoxNews] Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel, known as CJNG, has made itself known for its brutal and indiscriminate tactics

Six people have been charged in connection with providing one of Mexico's most dangerous and violent drug cartels with high-powered firearms and ammunition, including .50-caliber, armor-piercing bullets, the Justice Department said Monday.

Marco Antonio Santillan Valencia, 51, a Los Angeles-area resident, led the gun- trafficking organization and funded the weapons and ammo purchases for the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel with drug proceeds, authorities said.

A federal indictment named Santillan along with his son, Marco Santillan Jr., 29, of Pahrump, Nevada; Anthony Marmolejo Aguilar, 30; Michael Diaz, 33; Luis De Arcos, 51; and Rafael Magallon Castillo, 34, all California residents.

They are charged with violating export laws by smuggling weapons and attempted smuggling.

"This case alleges a scheme to provide military-grade firepower to a major drug trafficking organization that commits unspeakable acts of violence in Mexico to further its goal of flooding the United States with dangerous and deadly narcotics," U.S. Attorney Tracy Wilkison said in a statement.

Aguilar is in police custody in North Carolina on separate charges and Castillo is believed to be hiding in Mexico. Last week, Santillan, De Arcos and Diaz pleaded not guilty and are expected to stand trial in March. Santillan Jr. is expected to appear for an arraignment in Los Angeles on Feb. 2.

Federal prosecutors allege that the suspects obtained the firearms in Oregon and Nevada and consolidated the shipments before sending them to Mexico. They also allegedly purchased ammunition from various states to be delivered to a stash house in Nevada.

They also allegedly purchased thousands of rounds of .50-caliber, armor-piercing rounds in Arizona. To conceal the purchases, sometimes they anonymously ordered pallets of bullets, authorities said. The scheme began in March 2020 and operated for a year.

"The defendants in this case smuggled sophisticated weaponry out of the United States to one of the most violent cartels in Mexico whose members target not only rival gangs, but innocent Mexican citizens and Mexican law enforcement," said Kristi K. Johnson, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.

On May 26, 2020, Santillan Jr. allegedly informed someone in a Facebook message that members of the "Mencho’s cartel" – referring to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, who leads the feared CJNG cartel – were "buying everything."

Later that day, he sent a video of himself holding a stack of $100 bills and saying the "sale of firearms to the CJNG was profitable.".

During the operation, authorities seized six assault rifles, more than 250,000 rounds of assault rifle ammunition and more than $300,000 in weapon parts and kits to assemble "mini-guns." Those weapons comprised six-barrel rotary machine guns capable of firing up to 6,000 rounds per minute, prosecutors said

Terror Networks
Daesh-stan spawning at the Iraqi-Syrian borders

More than 100 Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters armed with heavy machine guns and vehicles rigged with explosives attacked the gates of Gweiran Prison in the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakeh. The goal of the attack on Thursday was to free the inmates and to raise the morale of ISIS fighters and sympathizers in Syria and in Iraq.

This attack has turned into the fiercest battle between ISIS and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in years, and it involved sleeper cells, suicide holy warriors and riots inside the prison. According to Omar Abu-Layla, an executive director of the DeirEzzor24 research and analysis organization and a former Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
front man, the attack by ISIS cells and the riot within the prison were carefully planned and organized, and the time was chosen based on the weather conditions. In addition, some of the fighters disguised themselves by wearing SDF uniforms.

Gweiran Prison, the largest of about a dozen facilities run by the US-supported Syrian-Kurdish forces, holds a few thousand inmates, among them top ISIS commanders and other holy warrior figures. The fighting there continued for more than three days, with the Kurdish SDF forces fighting supported by US-led coalition Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on ISIS-held positions in Hasakeh. According to a tweet by SDF front man Farhad Shami, 17 Kurdish fighters were killed and 23 were maimed, along with dozens of ISIS fighters. It is unclear how many prison inmates were able to escape. Footage of a few dozen recaptured prisoners showed men dressed in prison uniforms under civilian clothes. ISIS flags and uniforms were discovered in the area where the battles between the ISIS button men and SDF fighters took place.

ISIS operatives grabbed credit for the Gweiran Prison break through its media outlet, Amaq, and announced that it was able to free 800 inmates. An SDF front man rejected this claim, saying that it was impossible for 800 people to leave the area without being seen and followed by SDF fighters. ISIS also took responsibility for an ambush on an Iraqi military post near Baghdad on Friday. Eleven Iraqi soldiers were killed in this incident. Since the attacks, Iraq has tightened security measures on its border with neighboring Syria and President Barham Salih tweeted, "The attempts to revive terrorism in the region cannot be underestimated."

Experts are now wondering whether the battle at the Gweiran Prison is an indication that the dangerous terrorist group, that was able to capture large swaths of land in Syria and Iraq in 2014, is in the process of rehabilitating and will soon pose a serious threat to both countries again.

Abu-Layla believes that, despite the many countries that claimed victory over and the eradication of ISIS, the organization is still strong In Syria and has many sleeper cells placed in the country. "We also must remember that Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
is working to push ISIS to the American-controlled region," Abu-Layla told The Media Line.

According to the SDF front man, in addition to Syrian citizens there also were some foreign nationals among the killed ISIS attackers. Thousands of foreign nationals, including women and kiddies, are held in SDF-controlled prison facilities, and Abu-Layla believes that this situation is a recipe for disaster.

"The issue of ISIS prisoners remains tough and difficult to contain. Also, the Kurdish administration relies on it as a political card to attain global support and establish an international court, which is a tactic that has not always been useful for the administration," he said.

Although the global coalition has provided the SDF with logistics and helicopters to guard the prisons, the shaky structure of the prisons still does not allow for the secure control of such a huge number of dangerous prisoners, he says. According to the expert, five attempted riots and prison breaks occurred during 2021. The current attack on Gweiran Prison was the worst, however.

"Six attempts in less than a year raise the question of the extent of the seriousness of the coalition and SDF to secure the prison well," Abu-Layla said.

"ISIS is a complicated body, serving many masters. It also serves as an excuse for many, such as the Syrian regime that used this card to justify its other actions," according to Assad Hanna, a former White Helmet activist, and currently an international affairs fellow at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

In addition, Hanna told The Media Line, "the local authorities in northeast Syria like PYD (the Kurdish left-wing Democratic Union Party) and SDF accuse all of their Arabic opposition of being ISIS. The reality is that the SDF is not capable of holding them (ISIS prisoners) there for a long time, and the countries where they were citizens should deal with them at a professional level. Holding them in that prison under an annual budget which may get cut at any time (meaning that the guards will no longer be there) is not going to work."

Prof. Uzi Rabi, director of the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies based in Tel Aviv, says that behind the headlines of the more recent ISIS-Kurdish festivities there are also long-term ethnic tensions between the Kurds and the Arabs in northeastern Syria.

"Many of the inmates are ISIS fighters. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
there are also many family members of Arab tribes who were arrested on suspicion of being ISIS sympathizers or anti-Kurdish elements. Also, ISIS cells maintain friendly cross-border ties with many Arab tribes in Syria and Iraq who share an anti-Kurdish agenda. The tension is enormous, and ISIS is gaining power. The situation is far from being similar to the pre-2016-2017 period, and still there any many places where it gets ammunition, intelligence and support. It seems to be enough to turn ISIS into an undeniable fact on the ground," Rabi told The Media Line.

Rabi believes that the situation in Iraq is actually worse than in Syria due to the existence of "Saddam soldiers" — Arab Sunni elements who enjoyed being in power during the Saddam Hussein-era and who are ready to fight against Shia rule in Iraq at any cost, along with ISIS or with anyone else.

Dr. Kamal Sido, a Middle East consultant at the international Society for Threatened Peoples headquartered in Germany, believes that in the absence of firm American support of the Kurds, there might be an increase in the number of Arab tribes in northeastern Syria that will support ISIS.

"They are looking at the stronger actor and trying to make the right choice. If the Americans will continue supporting the Kurds firmly, the Arabs will try to mend ties with the Kurds. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
if they will see a weak and undefined position, they might choose ISIS. I still hope that the Americans will support the Kurds in their fight against ISIS," Sido told The Media Line.

Rabi adds that since the annihilation of the self-proclaimed ISIS caliphate, the group has resorted to a different strategy, waging a guerilla war against the SDF, Syrian and Iraqi military forces, rather than trying to recapture lost territory. He warns, however, that given the weakness of Syria and Iraq, the "ISIS-stan" — ISIS is the Arabic name for ISIS — is thriving in the border area of both countries.

Abu-Layla warns of repeated prison breaks if foreign countries do not repatriate their citizens who fought with ISIS and the maintenance of the prisons does not improve. Many foreign leaders celebrated victory over ISIS a few years ago; however, as often happens, the destructive ideology is still alive, and in volatile northeastern Syria as well as the Sunni provinces of Iraq there is no absence of those who are willing to carry again the black flags of this deadly organization.

Retaliating for Al-Azim Martyrs, Security forces kill seven ISIS members

On Tuesday, security sources said seven ISIS elements were killed during "Dire Revenge for deaders of al-Azim" operations.

A source told Shafaq News Agency," a joint force killed five ISIS elements while trying to escape from their dens in the areas of Hawi al-Azim between Diyala and Saladin."

In the same context, the commander of the Fifth Division in the Federal Police, Maj. Gen. Haider al-Matwari said that the security forces killed an ISIS leader in Wadi Abu Shahma within the al-Rashad district and another element in Wadi al-Shay.

Eleven Iraqi soldiers were killed on Friday when ISIS murderous Moslems attacked their base in Diyala Governorate.

The terrorist organization grabbed credit for the attack in Diyala on its affiliated Telegram channels.

Syrian doctor denies torture charges in German court
[DW] A 36-year-old Syrian doctor has been charged with torture and murder. He testified to witnessing beatings at a military hospital from 2011 to 2012, but not participating in it.

A Syrian doctor on Tuesday denied all charges of crimes against humanity levied against him at the Frankfurt Higher Regional court.

Among a long list of crimes Alaa M.
...more fully Alaa Mousa, or rather Dr. Alaa Mousa, orthopedist, a specialist in bones and joints...
stands accused of gruesome acts, such as dousing the genitals of teenagers with alcohol and setting them on fire, kicking prisoners' broken arms and legs, and administering injections to victims who protested against mistreatment.

The trial began last Wednesday, with some 13 days of hearings scheduled between then and the end of March.

Alaa M. arrived in Germany in 2015 on a skilled worker's visa. He had practiced medicine in Germany until his arrest in 2020.

The 36-year-old now faces 18 counts of torturing detainees in Damascus and the western city of Homs between 2011 and 2012. He also faces one murder count for allegedly administering a lethal injection to a prisoner who resisted being beaten, federal prosecutors said.

The case is among the first of its kind in Germany where atrocities committed by the Syrian regime during the country's civil war are being tried in a court of law.

Earlier this month, a German court sentenced a former Syrian colonel to life in jail for overseeing the murders of 27 people and the torture of 4,000 others at a Damascus detention.

ALAA M. 'FELT SORRY' FOR DETAINEES
The 36-year-old worked at the military hospital in Homs in 2011, after Arab Spring protests against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Light of the Alawites...
's regime led to a brutal crackdown.

He took the stand on Tuesday and told judges that a great number of opposition demonstrators were brought in with injuries and that it was a chaotic scene. He said he had worked in several military medical facilities at the time.

He testified that he "felt sorry" for patients who were beaten and blindfolded, but firmly denied taking part in any violence, saying he did not beat any detainees, and "would never" have operated on a patient without anesthesia, as prosecutors accuse him of doing.

"I saw the military secret service beating injured detainees. I felt sorry for them, but I couldn't say anything, or it would have been me instead of the patient," he told the court. He also said the military police did not permit him to talk about the patients in anything but a medical capacity, saying in most cases he neither knew their names nor knew what eventually became of them.

Asked whether he felt sympathy for the anti-Assad demonstrators, Alaa M. said neither he nor his family were political activists, adding that while protests began peacefully, they quickly turned more "radical."

"I'm against violence on either side," he said.

'Inside San Francisco's open air drug market that proves why city's woke effort to connect homeless addicts to rehab is NOT working - as users shoot up, pass out and scatter their needles
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The new linkage center, aimed at connecting homeless addicts with rehab facilities, opened on January 18

  • The center is located at 1172 Market Street at the United Nations Plaza in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco and is equipped to serve up to 100 people at a time

  • Photos taken by DailyMail.com show an illicit drug consumption site that is now littered with needles and crowded with addicts shooting up in broad daylight

  • San Francisco never approved the creation of a supervised consumption site at the linkage center and the site is in violation of state and federal laws

  • The open air drug market was first reported on by journalist Michael Shellenberger, who said in his Substack blog that he'd witnessed a drug deal and blatant drug use at the site

  • The center is part of Mayor London Breed's Tenderloin Emergency Intervention plan to address public drug use and overdose deaths in the neighborhood

  • Breed generated national news media coverage last December when she announced the crackdown on open air drug use in the downtown Tenderloin neighborhood

  • In addition to helping connect people with service, the center will also help people living on the streets get access to basic things like food, water, bathrooms, showers and laundry

  • The center operates seven seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., with limited staff due to the impact of COVID-19. However, the center will expand to operate 24 hours a day and 7 days a week

#5  Funny you should ask, M.

Early in the scamdemic, curious minds at Stanford and elsewhere noticed that, despite San Francisco being full of Chinese and shuttling thousands of Chinese and others directly from SFO to Wuhan and other Chinese cities each week -- despite this direct exposure to the virus, far from wiping out the homeless, not a single case of COVID among the army of homeless in SF was registered.

Curiouser and curiouser: hardly any of the SF Bay Area's other residents were dying, either. The fatality rate remains one of the lowest of any major city in the advanced world.

From D-Day to VE-Day in a C-47
[Warfare History Network] High over Normandy, France, eight paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division charged out the rear door of their C-47 Skytrain aircraft. They whooped and shouted as antiaircraft explosions rattled the plane.

On the heels of the eighth paratrooper came Technical Sergeant Gerald Griffith. He didn’t jump; strapping himself into the seat by the door, he pulled a T-shaped handle, releasing the cargo strapped under the plane’s fuselage. His task complete, Griffith remained seated while the next eight-man group leaped out the door. From his perch, he had a perfect view of the D-Day airborne assault over Ste. Mère Èglise.

Griffith never forgot what he saw: "Some of the paratroopers jumping out of their planes were hit by the prop wash from the plane in front of them, shooting them into the planes behind them, into their propellers."

Fox News footage shows mass release of single adult migrants into US
[FoxNews] More than 178,840 migrants were encountered in December.

Large numbers of single adult illegal immigrants are being released and transported into the U.S. in Texas via a small, unmarked office in a parking lot, video caught by Fox News on Sunday shows.

Fox News footage shows several federally contracted buses dropping off dozens of mostly male migrants at a parking garage in Brownsville, Texas. Black tarps were set up with a makeshift sign said "Border Patrol drop-off" above it.

Fox witnessed men go into a small, unmarked office, then re-emerge moments later as multiple taxi cabs then showed up to collect the migrants -- who were then shuttled off to nearby Harlingen Airport. There were no children or migrant families among the groups.

Several of the migrants told Fox that they had crossed illegally that morning, paying approximately $2,000 per person to cartel smugglers. They also said they were flying to destinations including Miami, Houston and Atlanta.

Single adults are typically being expelled via Trump-era Title 42 public health protections. The Biden administration kept Title 42 in place but is not applying it to unaccompanied children or most migrant families. However, single adults have long been the easiest category of migrant to deport.

In a statement to Fox News, the city of Brownsville said its Office of Emergency Management, through federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), works to facilitate "the transfer of these migrants to their final destination by allowing them to use services to contact their families, NGOs, or a taxicab."

It confirmed that the parking garage serves as a staging area for migrants to be given travel information to "facilitate their transfer to their final destinations." Migrants can also be given a health screening there, a spokesperson said.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said its agency was not involved in the release. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) source who viewed the footage said they believed it was an ICE release.

The development comes just as CBP officially released its December border numbers -- showing 178,840 encounters in December, a slight increase over November, but significantly higher than the 73,994 encountered in December 2020.

The Biden administration has been struggling with the crisis at the border and is re-establishing the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) in response to a court order that found its dismantling of the program unlawful.

Last week, the program -- which sees migrants returned to Mexico -- was expanded to the Rio Grande Valley sector. The returns are set to take place through the Brownsville port of entry.

Residents in crossfire on 6th day of ISIS, SDF fighting
Yesterday’s events can be seen here.
[Rudaw] The corpse count of the Ghweran prison break has reached 166, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Tuesday, noting that the monitor asserts the toll to be higher.

The SDF on Tuesday said that 550 ISIS fighters had surrendered themselves to the force, noting that they have also controlled a block of buildings inside the Ghweran prison.

Kurdish authorities in Rojava imposed a state of emergency in Hasaka on Sunday after seven non-combatants were killed in the crossfire.

Thousands of people are living in dire conditions and makeshift dormitories after fleeing their homes in northeast Syria (Rojava) due to ongoing festivities between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) as the terror group battles to retake control of a prison housing its members and affiliates in the Hasaka province for the sixth day on Tuesday.

Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes due to the armed conflict in Hasaka’s Ghweran neighborhood since Thursday, where hundreds of ISIS fighters broke into al-Sina’a prison in the area, attempting to free the terror group’s turbans held in the detention center.

The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Sunday said that 45,000 people have been displaced from their homes because of the violence.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the SDF-affiliated Rojava Information Center questioned this figure on Monday, citing information released by the UN Humanitarian Needs Assessment Programme to suggest that the number of those displaced by the fighting in Hasaka was considerably lower, estimating a figure of 6,000.

Rudaw English reached out to the OCHA to clarify the number but has not yet received a response.

"ISIS [Arabic acronym for ISIS] entered our houses at five in the morning. They said "all of you go out." We don’t want anything, we want safety," one of the displaced residents, Shekha Miziyen, told Rudaw’s Barzan Farman from Hasaka on Monday.

Another displaced local described the situation as "really bad."

More than two hundred ISIS fighters broke into al-Sina’a prison, known to locals as Ghweran prison, on Thursday night, while hundreds of fighters inside the detention facility staged a riot, smashing walls and burning oil storage facilities.

The turbans infiltrated the prison from its surrounding areas and later fled to the nearby al-Zuhoor neighborhood where they hid in civilian houses. The SDF on Friday said that ISIS was using civilians in the surrounding area as "human shields."
US-backed Kurdish forces tightened the noose around armed jihadists hunkering down inside a Syrian prison Tuesday, with both sides facing a bloodbath or talks to end the five-day-old standoff.

Around 100 Islamic State fighters attacked Ghwayran prison in the northeastern city of Hasakeh on January 20, in their biggest military operation since their "caliphate" was defeated in 2019.

The ensuing festivities with the Kurdish forces running northeastern Syria have left more than 160 people dead, including 45 in Kurdish ranks, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Some of the estimated 3,500 IS prisoners inside the facility have already been bused out to other detention centres in recent hours but it was unclear how many remained holed up inside Ghwayran.

Some of the hundreds of minors detained in the prison were transferred on Monday, the Observatory said.

"If there is no deal for a swap, there will be a massacre, hundreds of people will be killed," Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, the Kurdish administration's de-facto army, have not confirmed reports that several prison guards were being held by IS fighters.

SDF forces operating with air support from the US-led coalition present in the region have deployed elite units and armoured vehicles in and around the converted school that became one of the world's largest IS prisons.

An assault has looked imminent since early Monday but the Observatory said Kurdish forces were reluctant to move in due to the presence of hostages inside.

The SDF is counting on the besieged jihadist fighters running out of ammunition and supplies, Abdel Rahman said.

He said talks were taking place for some of the Kurdish forces and prison staff trapped inside to be freed in exchange for medical treatment for maimed jihadist fighters.

The Observatory put the number of hostages held inside the prison at 27 with around 40 people whose whereabouts are unknown.

Gunmen Kill Policeman, Abduct Expatriate In Edo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have kidnapped an expatriate working with Hartland Construction Company in Idegun, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

This comes less than one year after another expatriate working for the company was whisked away at Ahor on the Benin Bypass, Tribune reports.

The foreign supervisor of Agbede/Anwain Road, a project of the Edo State Government, was reportedly kidnapped on Monday evening after the mobile policeman assigned to guard him was rubbed out by the heavily armed thugs around the local secondary school.

Recall that during the operation at Ahor in June last year, the driver was killed by the suspected kidnappers while the two armed mobile police guards managed to escape.

An eyewitness said that the incident happened during an inspection of the road by the expatriate when the gunnies numbering about five suddenly appeared from the bush with guns, killed the policeman and snatched the foreigner away.

The source also included that the villagers in partnership with local vigilante groups set out shortly after the incident, combing the bush in a bid to rescue the foreigner.

Oregon lawsuit decries Democrat governor's clemency push as unlawful after nearly 1,000 convicts freed
[FoxNews] Two Oregon district attorneys and the families of three murder victims have filed a lawsuit against Democratic Gov. Kate Brown over her approach to granting clemency – arguing that it’s against the law.

They claim she’s freed almost 1,000 people without properly notifying the victims or their families in advance.

The prosecutors, Lane County’s Patricia Perlow and Linn County’s Doug Marteeny, are also asking the judge to stifle Brown's policy on commutations for people convicted of crimes as minors.

"We are asking that the court compel the governor to follow the laws that are already in place," Monique DeSpain, a lawyer for Perlow, Marteeny and the homicide victims’ relatives, told The Associated Press last week.

In November, Perlow sent out a statement blasting Brown over a clemency order freeing eight suspects from her district.

"Of those convicted, three were convicted of murder, two of sex crimes against children and three of robberies with weapons, including a stabbing and a failed attempt to shoot a customer in a store," she said at the time.

All were under 18 at the time of their crimes, but some details are heinous.

In 2002, Brian Hardegger was convicted for his role in the murder of his own mother, committed at the age of 17.

"Defendant and his father buried the victim, Hardegger’s mother, alive," Perlow said. "When the victim tried to raise her head above the dirt, Hardegger pushed her head down with his foot so that he and his father could finish covering her up. Hardegger dug the hole beforehand."

Perlow also took issue with another case involving a 17-year-old, Connor Allen, who was convicted of first-degree sex abuse after sodomizing a 7-year-old.

"Victims of crime in Oregon have Constitutional and statutory rights that are being ignored by Gov. Brown, the Oregon Department of Corrections and the State Parole Board with a first priority to these offenders of a ‘meaningful opportunity to be released,’" Perlow said in her statement. "Victims of crime deserve the enforcement of their rights they fought so hard to have recognized."
