UAE Airstrikes Target ISIS Bases in Somalia’s Puntland
[Garowe] The United Arab Emirates (UAE) struct several bases controlled by the ISIS snuffies in Somalia, uplifting the spirits of the local forces, who have religiously fought the group, whose expansion of territory was a reality a few months ago.

The ISIS turbans, mostly foreigners, had established more permanent bases in Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
state, with the ultimate goal being destabilization of the northern state of Somalia — the most stable federal state of the five regions.

According to the Puntland counterterrorism command center, the Monday night Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s targeted the bases deep in the caves of Cal-Miskaad mountains where the group has lost large swathes of territories in recent weeks.

"An airstrike has just taken place in the Miiraale Valley, within the Calmiskaad mountain range, targeting fleeing ISIS Death Eaters who were regrouping. The strike was carried out by Puntland’s allies from UAE," the command said.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the command center, which has been giving regular updates on Operation Lightning, did not mention if there were any casualties. The strike came barely a day after the Puntland forces seized a sniper training camp used by ISIS in the Dibi-Ganuun area of al-Miskad.

Several ISIS snuffies have been killed in the last two months with dozens getting arrested by the local forces as the operation nears the end. Already, the Puntland forces have destroyed some of the hideouts believed to have been hosting Abdulkadir Mumin, the global leader of the group.

"As long as a foreign invader lives on our land, we must be ready to sacrifice our lives to defend our country. We carry weapons and fight to eliminate the foreign Death Eaters who have invaded," said Second Lieutenant Jaamac Cumar, an officer with the Puntland forces.

The entry of the UAE airwing is expected to boost the Puntland command and deal a further blow to the ISIS terrorist organization. Also in the aerial surveillance team are the US Africa Command forces, who work jointly with the Puntland forces.

At least 7 killed in Al-Shabaab Siege on Beledweyne Hotel plus 2 Shaboobs
I think this is more on this story from yesterday.
[ShabelleMedia] Al-Shabaab
... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
holy warriors stormed a hotel in central Somalia’s Beledweyne on Tuesday, killing at least seven people, including local elders and officials, in a deadly siege that underscored the persistent threat of the al-Qaeda-linked group.

The attack on the Qahira Hotel began early Tuesday with an explosives-laden vehicle detonating outside the building, followed by button men who entered the premises, according to police and witnesses. The hotel was hosting a meeting of local elders and government officials discussing strategies to counter the Islamist insurgency when the assault occurred.

Dahir Amin Jesow, a federal politician said that security forces engaged the attackers in a prolonged firefight, eventually killing the holy warriors and ending the siege. Among the dead were two prominent elders, Aden Ali and Mohammed Osman, and Major Aden Mohamud, a military officer, local authorities confirmed.

Al-Shabaab grabbed credit for the attack, asserting in a statement that it had killed more than 10 people. The group frequently targets government officials and civilians in its campaign to overthrow Somalia’s central government.

"Hours after the initial assault, government forces were still flushing out fighters from nearby alleys," Jesow said, noting that some holy warriors had been killed outside the hotel. The exact number of attackers remained unclear, though estimates ranged from six to seven button men.

Beledweyne, located about 208 miles north of the capital, Mogadishu, is a strategic hub in the ongoing conflict with al-Shabaab. The attack follows a pattern of brazen assaults by the group, including a suicide kaboom last year at a Mogadishu beach hotel that killed 37 people.

Somalia: Security forces neutralise Al-Shabaab fighters behind hotel attack

[Garowe] Somalia's security forces neutralized 3 Al-Shabaab attackers who initiated the attack within Qahira Hotel in the city of Beledweyne, multiple sources confirmed, but the exact number of the masterminds killed in the operation was not immediately revealed.

Sources said the security teams overpowered the militants who had caused massive losses on the premises, killing them after a lengthy exchange of fire between the two groups. The militants are said to have targeted a meeting seeking solutions to eliminating them.

Government officials said at least eleven people were killed including two elders and a man who had been blinded in a previous al-Shabaab attack in Beledweyne three years ago, this month — given their dedication in the fight against the group.

Somalia’s minister of health Ali Haji Adam condemned the “cowardly” Al-Shabaab attack in Beledweyne, confirming that two prominent elders — Adan Raaxa Jecel and Mohamed Osman Farah are among the 7 dead.

The elders are said to have attended a meeting seeking solutions to eliminating the group from the Hiiraan region, which has been the face of the Al-Shabaab crackdown across the country — it is in this region that the first phase of Al-Shabaab crackdown was launched in 2022.

Al-Shabaab militants launched the complex attack on the hotel in the central Somalia town of Beledweyne at the time security forces have intensified operations against the group in central and southern regions in the country where the influence of the group cannot be underestimated.

The militants detonated an explosion followed by gunmen who stormed the hotel where elders and activists were meeting to discuss anti-al-Shabaab mobilizations in western parts of the Hiran region, sources said.

NISA: 16 Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Lower Shabelle Airstrikes
[ShabelleMedia] The Somali government reported on Sunday that 16 al-Shabaab

s in the vicinity of Basra, in the Lower Shabelle region, late on Saturday night.

Basra, a strategic farming area located between Bal’ad and Afgoye, has been a hotspot for al-Shabaab activity despite repeated airstrikes and ground operations targeting the group in the past.

The latest airstrikes are part of ongoing efforts by Somali forces to weaken the murderous Moslem group’s foothold in the region.

The Somali military confirmed that the airstrikes had successfully hit al-Shabaab targets, resulting in significant casualties.

The attack is seen as part of the government’s intensified campaign to eliminate al-Shabaab’s presence in key areas of southern Somalia.

Al-Shabaab has maintained a stronghold in Lower Shabelle, using its terrain for logistical and operational purposes.

The Somali government continues to prioritize the region in its ongoing battle to counter the group’s influence and restore security to the area.

SDF reports 'unprecedented' escalation with Turkey in northern Syria
[Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday reported "intensified attacks" with Syrian National Army (SNA) Death Eaters in northern Syria near the key Tishreen Dam and Qere Qozaq bridge.

"The Ottoman Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have intensified their brutal attacks on northern and eastern Syria, committing a massacre yesterday in the countryside of Sarrin, which resulted in casualties of three children," the SDF said in a statement.

The SDF has blamed The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and Ottoman Turkish-backed Death Eaters for a spate of attacks on Tishreen Dam and Qere Qozaq bridge since December, when a coalition of rebels led by the Islamist Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

’s regime after taking Damascus.

The dam's strategic location is critical for Turkey and the SNA, as its capture could pave the way for an advance into other parts of northeast Syria (Rojava).

The attacks came after HTS leader and Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF chief Mazloum Abdi put pen to paper on a landmark deal that would see the SDF integrated into the Syrian security apparatus.

Included in the agreement is a ceasefire across the country.

According to the SDF, Ottoman Turkish drones were also spotted in the skies above the symbolic Kurdish city of Kobane and Ain Issa.

On Monday, a suspected Ottoman Turkish dronezap on Sarrin town south of Kobane killed one child and injured two more people.

Rojava authorities have expressed grave concerns about attacks on the Tishreen Dam, warning that the constant attacks could lead to its collapse and a potential human catastrophe.

Freed hostage Omer Wenkert says he always knew when truce talks failed because captors would take it out on him
[IsraelTimes] Released hostage Omer Wenkert tells Channel 12 that although he was cut off from the outside world throughout his 505 days in captivity in Gaza, he always knew when talks for a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas had fallen through or when a senior Hamas operative was killed, because his terrorist captors would take it out on him.

“Every deal that fell through would bring up a lot of frustration, rage and anger,” Wenkert says of his captors. “Not to mention when one of their fathers was killed, or their families, or when their senior officials were assassinated. You feel it. You know exactly what happened.”

He says that in those instances, his captors would beat him, spit on him, and force him to do strenuous physical exercise.

“I was very weak physically,” he says, adding that his captors’ goal was “humiliation.”

During his interview with Channel 12, Wenkert gives a blow-by-blow account of his time in captivity, starting with the night of October 7, 2023, when he drove down to the Nova music festival with his best friend Kim Damti.

Damti was killed in the same bomb shelter Wenkert was taken from, although he didn’t discover her fate until his return to Israel.

US resumes military aid to Ukraine as Kyiv says open to 30-day ceasefire with Russia
[IsraelTimes] The Trump administration says it will immediately lift its suspension of military aid to Ukraine and its intelligence sharing with Kyiv, more than a week after imposing the measures to push Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to enter talks to end the war with invading Russian forces.

The announcement came at talks between Ukraine and the United States in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine also says it is open to a 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia, subject to Kremlin agreement.

Admittedly, this is not the best of deals, but it is a step up from the previous Ukrainian position that Russia must surrender before there can be talks. This is progress!

Atop Mt. Hermon, Katz says Syrian leader will see indefinite IDF deployment
[IsraelTimes] ToI tours IDF’s highest army post in Syria, overlooking Damascus and Hezbollah’s Beqaa Valley stronghold in Lebanon; Syrian Druze to enter Israel for work starting next week

After an hour-long flight from the relative warmth of central Israel, freezing air rushed into an Israeli Air Force helicopter as Defense Minister Israel Katz, deputy military chief Maj. Gen. Tamir Yadai and a group of journalists landed on Tuesday morning at one of Mount Hermon’s snowy summits on the Syrian side of the border.

Due to the harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain, the Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion — known in Israel as the Yasur — helicopter that took us to Syria from an IAF airbase could not land at the strategic peak of Mount Hermon, located 2,814 meters (9,232 foot) above sea level, and 14.5 kilometers (9 miles) from Israel’s border.

To reach the peak, where the Israeli military has established a post at the site of a former Syrian army position, we needed to travel another hour in cramped snowcats with almost no room to move in.

The fully treaded snowcats made light work of the icy mud and thick snow covering the route to the top of Mount Hermon.

Along the way, an Israeli military truck used to transport ammunition was seen embedded in ice. It had broken down during a snowstorm. Army officials said that they would wait until the summer to extract it, once the ice had melted, indicating that Israel intends to stay inside Syria for the foreseeable future.

Once the news hounds arrived at the Israeli army post and a nearby lookout position, it was clear why the military captured the area back in December.

The Israel Defense Forces took the Syrian side of the strategic Mount Hermon, along with a buffer zone that has existed between the countries since the 1970s, following the fall of the Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
regime.

Since then, the IDF has established nine military posts inside Syrian territory, including two atop Mount Hermon. Three IDF brigades, under the 210th Bashan Regional Division, are deployed to the area.

The highest IDF position, close to the peak of Mount Hermon, was constructed using a building belonging to the former regime in Syria. The military hooked it up with generators for electricity and fixed it up to make it habitable for troops, who are expected to stay there for the foreseeable future.

The post has a clear view of Leb
...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel...
’s Beqaa Valley, a Hezbollah stronghold on the border with Syria, through which the terror group smuggles arms. Though smuggling attempts have slowed down in recent weeks due to the snow, they are expected to resume in the summer, IDF officials said.

Syria’s capital, Damascus, less than 40 kilometers (24 miles) can also be seen from the IDF post on a clear day.

Katz and military officials said that the IDF’s deployment to the post and the other eight in the area was geared to ensure that the troops could better defend Israeli border communities in the Golan Heights.

"Every morning when [Syrian leader] al-Jolani (Ahmed al-Sharaa) opens his eyes at the presidential palace in Damascus, he will see the IDF watching him from the peak of the Hermon, and remember that we are here and in the entire security area of southern Syria, to protect the Golan and Galilee residents against any of his threats and those of his jihadist friends," Katz said.

"The IDF is prepared to stay in Syria for an unlimited amount of time. We will hold the security area in Hermon and make sure that all the security zone in southern Syria is demilitarized and clear of weapons and threats," he said.

The "security zone," according to Katz, is split into two areas in southern Syria.

The first, the buffer zone, is located up to around five kilometers from Israel’s border. Within the buffer zone and areas adjacent to it, there are some 40,000 Syrian residents, many of them Druze. It is within this area that the IDF established its nine posts.

Katz vowed that Israel "will protect the Druze" in southern Syria, and, starting from March 16, allow the first Syrian Druze to enter Israel for work in the Golan Heights. The plan is being led by Maj. Gen. Ghassan Alian, who heads the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories and is Druze himself.

Katz also said that Israel was "tightening its relationship with the locals." The IDF in recent weeks has assisted civilians in repairing broken water and electricity lines, and in a handful of cases also provided medical attention.

The second zone is an area up to 15 kilometers deep into Syria, where the IDF has carried out dozens of raids, capturing weapons Israel seeks to prevent from falling into the hands of hostile forces.

There is also a third zone in southern Syria described by defense officials as "an area of influence." It is located up to 80 kilometers from Israel’s border, reaching the outskirts of Damascus and the Druze-majority city of Suwayda.

Israeli officials have said that they seek to completely demilitarize the southern Syria area, and not allow any gangs to enter it and gain a foothold, including those of the new Syrian government.

Syrian government control is relatively weak in the region, and Israel has threatened to target interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa’s forces if they deploy there.

Another major threat seen by Israel in Syria is the Paleostinian terror groups Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
and Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
. Many members of the groups were locked up in Assad’s prisons, and with their release in December, the defense establishment fears they could carry out attacks on Israel from Syria.

Therefore, dozens of Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s have been carried out in recent weeks, including a large wave late Monday, targeting military sites and equipment belonging to the former regime, to prevent the weapons from reaching hostile forces. Some of the recent strikes have destroyed tanks and artillery systems left behind by the Assad regime.

"Last night we acted forcefully against military targets. We attacked over 40 targets in southern Syria to implement the policy we announced and warned about — to thwart any threat to the State of Israel," Katz added.

Back aboard the snowcats, news hounds, the defense minister, and the deputy IDF chief of staff were taken back to the makeshift helipad located lower down on the mountain. An hour later, we landed back at the airbase.

My passport was not stamped.

Syrian government said to reach deal to fully integrate southern Druze province
Lots of taqqiya and special pleading, and a careful avoidance of mentioning that the only law they recognize is Shariah law, under which unbelievers and the Peoples of the Book are at best second class citizens, and at worst horribly dead, a fact understood by all in the organization without the need for direct orders aye or nay..
[IsraelTimes] Sweida’s security services reportedly to come under Interior Ministry, with residents able to join civil service; separately, interim president says trying to be patient with Israel

Syria’s interim government has reached an agreement to integrate the Druze-majority southern province of Sweida into state institutions, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

According to the terms of the reported deal, Druze security groups in the area will be under the control of the Syrian Interior Ministry and a police force will be drawn from the local population.

There will also be a governor and police chief appointed for the province, who will not necessarily be from the area.
Making suppression of the natives easier
The deal, which is expected to be signed in the coming days, was reported by al-Jazeera, al-Arabiya, and the al-Hadath outlets.

It came a day after the Syrian government announced that it had signed a similar deal with Kurdish authorities.

Syria’s new government under interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has sought to disband gangs and establish government control over the entirety of the country since ousting long-time leader Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

in December, after more than 13 years of civil war.

Sweida borders Jordan but not Israel. Many of its residents who protested against the Assad regime in recent years have also protested against Israel’s Arclight airstrike

s and military push into the country since the fall of the government to Sharaa’s rebel forces.

The deal would grant Druze residents of Sweida the right to serve in state civil institutions. In addition, Syria’s security services will be permitted to operate in all areas of the region and take over cop shoppes and other security centers, al-Arabiya and al-Hadath reported.

On Monday, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement with the head of the Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to integrate the institutions of the autonomous Kurdish administration in the northeast into the national government.

Since the downfall of Assad, Israel has pushed its forces into southern Syria, taking over a buffer zone that had previously been controlled by the UN and establishing at least nine military posts to be held indefinitely, demanding southern Syria’s "full demilitarization."

It has also carried out wide-ranging strikes to destroy Syrian military equipment, saying the measure is geared to prevent the weapons from falling into the hands of hostile elements. Another series of airstrikes was carried out Monday.

There are Druze communities in the buffer zone. Since the zone’s establishment, Israel has made overtures to the Druze and is preparing to initiate a scheme for Druze residents of southern Syria to enter its borders for work on the Golan Heights.

Israeli leaders have also publicly warned Syria’s government not to harm the Druze in southwestern Syria and have regularly spoken with foreign leaders about the importance of protecting them, along with Syria’s Kurds. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the Israel Defense Forces to "prepare to defend" the Druze-majority city of Jaramana on the outskirts of the capital Damascus after reports that authorities from the new Syrian government have been clashing with local Druze button men during a security campaign.

Interim president Sharaa said Tuesday he’s trying to respond to Israeli moves in Syria with "patience and wisdom."

Speaking to Rooters, Sharaa rejected Israeli accusations that his new government poses a threat to the Jewish state. Israeli leaders have kept up a strident verbal campaign against Sharaa, calling him an "al-Qaeda terrorist."

"We are trying to use patience and wisdom as much as possible. If there are fears, we have announced from the first moments that Syria will not pose a threat to any state in the region or the world. And if there are expansionist motives, the entire world agreed with Syria to condemn Israel’s steps in advancing on Syrian territory," he said.

In response to Israeli accusations that his forces could carry out a cross-border attack into Israel, Sharaa said: "I mean, a delusional person can say whatever they want. Every person can imagine that he is suffering from some danger and carry out a preemptive strike and kill. But that is not justifiable."

Sharaa also addressed other issues, including violence in coastal areas where there are Alawite sects who were loyal to Assad. Fighting that erupted there last week is said to have killed over 1,000 people, mostly civilians. Syria’s Islamist-led government on Monday said it had completed a military operation against a nascent insurgency.

"Many of the parties that lost in the battle of Syria and benefited from the old state in Syria worked on plans to return to Syria by inciting sectarian strife and conflicts," Sharaa told Rooters.

He said that members of the former regime "carried out a large military attack in the coastal region."

"This led to the killing of many security forces and some civilians, including Alawites," he said.

"We confirm that Syria is a state of law," Sharaa continued. "The law will take its course on all. We fought to defend the oppressed, and we won’t accept that any blood be shed unjustly, or goes without punishment or accountability, even among those closest to us."

Asked if groups from his defense ministry were involved in the violence, he said: "We need an investigation. There are many ideas, but I do not have specifics or solid proof."

Sharaa asserted that there are "some regional countries that want to destabilize the situation in Syria," an apparent reference to at least Iran, which was tightly allied with Assad’s Syria and has a powerful Lebanese proxy, the Hezbollah terror group.

"We have seen their presence in more than one state, focusing on sectarian strife, spreading captagon, and political corruption," he said. "These are three components that are present in any country they enter. But we do not yet have clear evidence on which to build conclusions or practical steps."

Bannu attackers identified
[GEO.TV] Separately, investigation sources have said that two terrorists, out of the 16 who attacked the Bannu Cantonment on March 4, have been identified as Abdul Hadi alias Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
Mohajir and Shamsullah.

Both the snuffies hail from Afghanistan's eastern Paktika
...which coincidentally borders North Wazoo and Kurram Agency...
province, the sources said, adding that details were being gathered about other terrorists.

They also said the incident involved security forces' successful thwarting of a cowardly terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, killing all 16 snuffies who attempted to intrude into the facility.

The attackers, in their desperation, rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into the perimeter wall.

However,

in the exchange of fire, five soldiers were martyred. Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
multiple suicide kabooms resulted in the partial collapse of the perimeter wall, causing damage to the adjacent infrastructure.

Tragically, a mosque and a civilian residential building in close proximity also suffered severe destruction, leading to the martyrdom of thirteen civilians and injuries to 32

Inflation Lower than expected for February 2025
[Bureau of Labor Statistics] The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.2 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in February, after rising 0.5 percent in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.8 percent before seasonal adjustment.
When the government spends less, inflation falls — a shocking concept.

OMG video: State Farm boss secretly filmed making bombshell comments about [CA] wildfire victims
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A top State Farm executive has been fired after being caught on hidden camera making stunning and callous remarks about LA wildfire victims while revealing explosive claims about secret corporate maneuvers to raise rates on vulnerable policyholders.

Haden Kirkpatrick, State Farm's Vice President for Innovation and Venture Capital, was secretly recorded admitting the company 'kind of' orchestrated a massive rate hike for California homeowners reeling from the devastation of January's deadly fires.

The undercover video - published by O'Keefe Media Group - sees Kirkpatrick making cynical and cold-hearted statements about victims of the recent infernos that killed 29 people, destroyed over 12,000 homes, and scorched 57,000 acres in Los Angeles County alone.

In the bombshell footage, Kirkpatrick dismissed the suffering of victims and criticized Californians for building homes in fire-prone regions.

'People want to build in areas where they want to have, like, natural areas around them for their ego. But it's also a f***ing desert. And so, it dries out as a tinderbox.

'Areas like where the Palisades are, there should never be houses built in the first place,' Kirkpatrick added without an ounce of sympathy for the thousands who lost everything.

But the footage went further still as Kirkpatrick admitted that wildfires such as those which tore through Pacific Palisades and Altadena, are entirely predictable to insiders and that State Farm is actively maneuvering to escape financial exposure to such disasters.

'Climate change is pushing these seasons. If you're an insurance professional, it's predictable,' he said.
Video of the conversation at the link.

Yes. California Insurance is big money or big bust, so no matter their personal feelings those risk assessors knew that response systems were compromised and leadership turned into a glee club.

Not defending Big Insurance or poo poo O'Keefe, but the problem starts in Sacramento and filters through LA, and then risk evaluations can happen, which makes me think DM here is running cover for Newsom as they usually bury O'keefe investigations.

#3  As I understand, insurers in Cali are either trying to raise rates or get out of home insurance entirely due to a massive exposure to... wait for it...losses from wild fires.

As ed says in #1, they are cynically and heartlessly telling the truth, because arithmetic wins in the end.

ICE, DEA arrest criminal illegal aliens on idyllic Nantucket island
[NY Post] Oh noes! Now who will nanny the kids and cut the lawns?
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents in New England executed a joint operation on Nantucket, Massachusetts, to arrest “illegal criminal aliens” on Tuesday.

In a post on X, the DEA New England division said its agents assisted ICE and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston with the arrests on the idyllic and posh summer vacation destination island situated 30 miles south of Cape Cod.

The Nantucket Current reported that the DEA confirmed it had arrested a man previously charged with kidnapping and domestic assault and battery, as well as a woman.

Authorities did not identify the suspects’ names or countries of origin.

How to Deal with Activist Judges
[TennesseeStar] ‘We’ve Got to Stop This Judicial Resistance’: Craig Huey Offers Solution for Congress to Block Activist Judges from Shutting Down Trump’s Executive Actions

Craig Huey, California refugee and marketing expert, offered a solution that Congress could pursue to bar activist leftist judges from issuing rulings designed to block executive actions made by President Donald Trump.

Since Trump assumed office, many of his executive orders have been blocked from taking effect by rulings issued by district court judges.

For example, Trump’s executive order pausing funding of foreign aid assistance programs was struck down by a single judge, U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali, last month.

In another example, Trump’s executive order directing the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take down webpages promoting gender ideology was also struck down by a single judge, U.S. District Judge John Bates.

Huey said the conduct by the judges ruling to block Trump’s executive actions is “judicial resistance.”

“These judges at a district level are trying to impose their own political ideology on the entire nation,” Huey explained on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

“They are legislating from the bench with their own political ideology. They do not look at the Constitution. They do what they interpret to be the right thing to do in their political, ideological eyes,” Huey added.

Huey said the transformation of the judiciary began under the Obama administration and ramped up during the Biden administration.

“What has happened is that the judiciary has been transformed by Obama, by Biden, where they have cherry picked ideologues. Now, that’s contrary to what Trump has done in appointing strict constructionists who look at the Constitution, look at the law, and whether they agree with it or not, they interpret it. That’s what you want,” Huey said.

“These judicial activists are part of the judicial resistance to stop anything that Trump is doing,” Huey added.

Huey said there are two ways to stop activist judges from overriding executive actions – impeachment and congressional action on restructuring the district court process.

“We’ve got to be able to hold these judges accountable. Again, these are people who are Democrat donors, they go to political rallies. They’re activists in a black suit, and they got a gavel. This is a battle for the soul of America with these judges. So Andy Ogles and several other congressmen are willing to impeach some of these activist judges, and I think that is an incredible spotlight on what is going on in the abuse of the judiciary. That is one thing that can be done,” Huey explained.

“The second thing, we have to take a look at how to restructure this. One district court cannot make a decision for the whole United States. That’s what’s happening. So Congress can reconfigure so that you have, say, three district court judges who have to be in agreement, and then you’d have a fast track way to the Supreme Court,” Huey added.

Huey said he believes restructuring the district courts so that a majority of three district judges must be in agreement to block an executive action is “the most logical way to be able to ensure a judiciary does not abuse its own power.”

#3  "congressional action on restructuring the district court process." There needs to be a GREAT DEAL more discussion of this in public forums. In 1863 Congress simply abolished the entire DC federal court system and immediately created a substitute federal court system. New federal judges were then appointed to the exclusion of one particularly troublesome one surnamed Merrick. No one was impeached in this action, but it amounted to getting rid of just a single federal judge.
Congress is also able to adjust what kind of cases the lower federal courts can take vs. what must be taken up by the USSC. Again, there's been virtually no public discussion of Congressional powers to change all federal courts below the level of the Supreme Court.

[TennesseeConservativeNews] Homeschooling Bill Killed In House Subcommittee Over Concerns That Parents Might Abuse Their Children

A pro-homeschooling bill that was endorsed by both state and national homeschooling advocates died in the House Education Administration Subcommittee on Tuesday over concerns that parents might abuse their children without any state oversight.
The answer is to write a stronger bill that addresses those concerns. Politics is about horsetrading.
Had it passed, the FREE Act would have made Tennessee the 14th state to enact such legislation as Wyoming passed a similar bill this year, becoming the most recent of 13 states to do so.

House Bill 0552 (HB0552), sponsored by Representative Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill-District 92), would not have repealed any current regulations regarding homeschooling in Tennessee.

Instead, the “Family Right to Educational Emancipation Act” or FREE Act” would have created a new independent category for homeschooling that would have been exempt from compulsory school attendance while also keeping homeschool families who might have chosen the new option free of any data collection, reporting, or assessment requirements.

According to Warner, this new option would have kept homeschool families from participating in any state program like a future expansion of school vouchers that would include homeschool families or the current TSSAA rules that allow homeschool students to participate in sports at their local public schools.

Following testimony on the bill, Committee Chair William Slater (R-Gallatin-District 35) read a few lines from a letter that he received from the Sumner County Juvenile Court Judge in Slater’s district.

“It could potentially create a loophole for some rather unscrupulous parents to abuse Tennessee’s educational system,” Slater read. “And our greatest fear is unscrupulous parents when threatened with the notions of mandatory referrals for abuse would remove a child from school and place them under the umbrella of this bill so as to avoid detection.”

Slater said that while he understood “the importance of the freedom to homeschool” he nevertheless was inclined to side with the judge’s opinion which sounded strikingly similar to a Stewart County Juvenile Court Judge’s letter shared by Free YOUR Children whose founder wrote the FREE Act.

The public school where she grew up was not prepared for her; unfortunately, her mother also was not prepared for all that while home schooling, thinking the child lazy rather than learning disabled. Coupled with severe health issues, final daughter never got past eighth grade in terms of formal education.

Warning to millions over common drug that causes deviant sexual behavior... including pedophilic urges
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Doctors have warned that a common drug used for involuntary movement disorders suffered by millions could cause 'deviant' sexual behavior. Patients taking the drugs, used to treat restless legs syndrome and Parkinson's, have developed strange urges and problematic habits.
Good to know.
Some became addicted to flashing their nudity in public, others with cheating on their spouses or watching pornography.

In even more disturbing cases, patients ended up collecting child pornography and sexually assaulting minors.

The drugs belong to a class of medication known as dopamine agonists, which work by 'tricking' the brain into thinking it is receiving dopamine.

This helps treat conditions that cause involuntary movements that are linked to low dopamine, but the hormone also plays a crucial role in reward and pleasure.

The most common form in the US is ropinirole, sold under the brand name Requip and prescribed to 3million Americans every year.

Israel agrees to talks on Lebanon border, frees five Lebanese
[GEO.TV] Israel said on Tuesday it had agreed to hold talks to demarcate its border with Leb
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, adding it would release five Lebanese held by the Israeli military in what it called a "gesture to the Lebanese president".

A statement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Israel had agreed with Lebanon, the U.S. and La Belle France to establish working groups to discuss the demarcation line between the two countries.

Lebanon said it had received the four Lebanese hostages from Israel, with a fifth to be handed over on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Lebanese president's office on X.

Lebanese media including the state news agency NNA reported that the released Lebanese hostages had arrived in a hospital in southern Lebanon's Tyre.

In a statement on X the same day, US Deputy Presidential Special Envoy Morgan Ortagus said: "Today, the United States announced we are bringing together Lebanon and Israel for talks aimed at diplomatically resolving several outstanding issues between the two countries."

She added that all those involved remained committed to maintaining the ceasefire.

Only a functioning Palestinian state could replace UNRWA: agency chief
[GEO.TV] The head of the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees on Monday rejected Israel's assertion that other organizations could replace it in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, insisting that only a Paleostinian state "institution" could take over.

Israel has banned UNRWA from operating in Gaza and agency chief Philippe Lazzarini hit back after Israel's ambassador Daniel Meron told news hounds that his country was "working to find substitutes to the work of UNRWA inside Gaza".

Israel was actively "encouraging UN agencies and NGOs to take over," he said.

Lazzarini told news hounds that UNRWA was still "it can't be an NGO, it can't be another UN agency".

"The only viable alternative are capable Paleostinian institutions ... in a Paleostinian state."

TTP becoming umbrella organisation for regional terror groups: Pakistan warns UNSC
[GEO.TV] As Pakistain continues to reel from the increased terror attacks in recent months, the country has warned the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Security Council (UNSC) that the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP) is emerging as an umbrella organization for regional terror groups.

The warning was highlighted by Pakistain's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram during a UNSC meeting on Tuesday concerning the situation in Afghanistan wherein the envoy accentuated that the greatest threat to security and stability to the region arose from more than 20 terrorist organizations present in the neighbouring country.

Envoy Akram's remarks come against the backdrop of Pakistain's ongoing efforts to curb the menace of terrorism as the country, as per a Global Terrorism Index 2025 report, has emerged as the second-most terrorism-affected nation in the world.

Placed at the second spot from its previously fourth position — witnessed an alarming 45% increase in terrorism-related deaths with the total rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024 — one of the steepest surges globally.

The number of terror attacks more than doubled from 517 in 2023 to 1,099 in 2024, which also marked the first year that attacks exceeded the 1,000 mark since the inception of the Index.

The increase in terrorist attacks, as per the report, coincides with the rise of the Afghan Taliban to power in Kabul.

Undeterred, the country's security forces continue to take significant action against snuffies and even arrested Mohammad Sharifullah alias Jafar — a ISIS-Khorasan operative — on intelligence provided by America's Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and handed him over to the United States.

The terrorist's arrest holds significance due to his status as the main suspect in the attack on the Abbey Gate suicide kaboom at the Kabul Airport in Afghanistan in 2021 which resulted in the deaths of at least 170 Afghans as well as 13 US troops.

Scientists have recorded a solar flare of the second-to-last powerful M-class
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Scientists have recorded a solar flare of the penultimate M class in terms of power. This was reported on the website of the Fyodorov Institute of Applied Geophysics.

“On March 11 at 15:04 Moscow time, a flare M1.1 (N05W46) lasting 3 minutes was registered in the X-ray range,” the report says.

Solar flares are divided into five classes depending on the power of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M and X. When moving to the next letter, the power increases by 10 times. Solar activity can also lead to magnetic storms on Earth, the last time it was recorded was on March 4. The phenomenon was observed for two days.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 5, scientists from the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG) recorded a powerful M-class solar flare that lasted for nine minutes. It was noted that the solar activity was assessed by scientists as moderate.

Earlier, on February 28, the Sun ejected its largest plasma cloud since the beginning of the year. It occurred on the side opposite to Earth, and therefore did not pose a threat to the planet.

Department of Education will begin sweeping layoffs tonight with about half of its 4,400 employees expected to be let go
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] A solid start.

The US Education Department announced that it is cutting nearly 50% of its workforce, according to senior agency officials, as President Donald Trump has proposed eliminated the agency altogether.

Hundreds will be laid off starting this evening in addition to those who took voluntary “buyouts.” The department employs around 4,400 workers.

The layoffs will take effect in 90 days. Those fired will begin teleworking starting Wednesday and go on paid administrative leave starting March 21, according to the officials, who added that the employees will receive severance pay.

The cuts are in addition to the 63 probationary employees who were fired as part of a White House directive last month, the officials added. More than 300 employees also took an up to $25,000 voluntary separation incentives.

“Today’s reduction in force reflects the Department of Education’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are directed where they matter most: to students, parents, and teachers,” said Education Secretary Linda McMahon.
Some background: Trump has been mulling over an executive order to eliminate the department altogether, which was expected to be signed last week but was never announced.
Courtesy of Skidmark, Fox News adds:
Secretary of Education Linda McMahon said the roughly 2,000 remaining staff members will make sure outward-facing programs like grants and appropriations from Congress are being met and handled appropriately.

"None of that’s going to fall through the cracks," she vowed.

Education Department starts massive layoffs for half of ALL staff
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The Department of Education temporarily closed all its offices in the Washington, D.C., area for 'security' reasons amid reports it is slashing half its workforce in cuts driven by Elon Musk's DOGE.

Offices closed at 6PM on Tuesday, according to a notice to employees sent by James Hairfield, from the office of security, facilities and logistics at the department.

The email notified all workers to bring their work laptops from the office and work from home starting Wednesday, March 12.

'Employees will not be permitted in any ED facility on Wednesday, March 12 for any reason,' the email read.

A Department of Education spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

McMahon was asked about the buildings closing in an interview with Laura Ingraham Tuesday night.

'We didn't want part of people being permanently let go and those remaining to all - some of them to show up work tomorrow morning,' she said.

Both McMahon and Ingraham noted that this was 'standard corporate practice.'

'We lock the doors and said for those that are coming back we'll know that they will be coming back on Thursday morning.'

There will be a chance for those let go to come back and take personal affects, as well as 'say goodbye' to one another.

The Department of Education currently employs over 4,000 employees and has a budget of $80 billion. The most significant function handled by the department is student loans, which could be shifted to the Treasury Department.

On Friday, McMahon also said she would continue to work with Congress to make sure students would still receive student loan assistance.

'This is not a turn off the lights and walk out of the department,' she told NewsNation in an interview.

'It's in close consultation with Congress and looking at how the needs of students can best be serviced.'

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., made the joint request to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant seeking access to the SARs, which are required by federal law when banks suspect money laundering or other suspicious activity.

The committees first sought the reports last fall, and Comer has said government officials told them there are hundreds of such reports.

In their new letter, the chairmen revealed the Biden Treasury Department only let Congress see some of the reports.

“Although the Biden Administration initially stalled the Committees’ requests in its entirety for months, on January 2, 2025, Treasury allowed the Committees to review only limited documents,” they wrote Bessant. “We write to request Treasury, in its commitment to transparency and cooperation, provide both Committees with the remaining records relevant to our investigations.”

Congress along with numerous state attorneys generals began investigating ActBlue last election, citing concerns the massive fundraising online platform, which claims to have raised $2 billion for Democrats and liberal causes over the last two decades, had not until recently used security tools like the CVV number on the back of credit cards to ensure donor identities.

The lawmakers told Bessant they were concerned that loose security might have led to abuses on the platform, including the flow of prohibited foreign monies into U.S. elections.

“Our Committees are concerned that the failure to properly vet contributions made through online platforms may allow bad actors, including foreign nationals not lawfully admitted for permanent residence or individuals attempting to evade individual contribution limits, to more easily commit fraud to illegally exploit and violate federal campaign finance laws,” they wrote.

For emphasis, they added the committees want to “guard against illicit foreign influence or other illegal activities in U.S. elections.”

In a recent interview with the Just the News, No Noise television show, Comer indicated the “small fraction” of documents the committees was shown by the Biden Treasury Department only heightened lawmakers’ concerns and determination to get access to all records.

“I think you are going to have a lot to report on ActBlue in the coming weeks,“ Comer said. Asked whether there is a foreign trail of money, he responded: “Absolutely.”

Back in December, Steil told the Just the News, No Noise television show that Congress likely will refer ActBlue to the Trump Justice Department for possible investigation.

“Once Pam Bondi comes in as attorney general under the Trump administration, we then have a partner at the United States Department of Justice to look at this, to do the investigation into bad actors, and to hold anyone who is engaged in this activity accountable,” he said.

In October, Steil and Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, a fellow Republican, wrote to then-Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, then-FBI Director Christopher Wray and then-Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines about concerns that four U.S. adversaries may have donated through the platform.

“We write to you to raise an urgent concern regarding potential illicit election funding by foreign actors,” the lawmakers wrote. “CHA has been investigating claims that foreign actors, primarily from Iran, Russia, Venezuela, and China, may be using ActBlue to launder illicit money into U.S. political campaigns.”

#3  DOGE is shutting down dozens of questionable Biden Administration projects (contracts). "Shutting down" is good, but where is the contract and Contracting Officer's Representative that awarded these efforts ?

* Were the contracts running in previous years ?
* Where is the statement of work ?

* To whom was the contract awarded ?

Shutting down is fine, but there's likely more to the story.....unless the awards were bogus and the money was going elsewhere.

Moscow comes under 'massive' drone attack
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Russia has been bombarded in the biggest Ukrainian drone attack of the war, Moscow officials have said, on the same day as crunch talks are set to be held between Kyiv and the United States.

The Russian Defence Ministry said air defences shot down 337 Ukrainian drones over 10 Russian regions overnight, a record high, as Ukraine hit back at a series of brutal recent attacks launched by Moscow.

At least one Russian civilian has been killed and several injured, with dramatic footage showing fires raging from the exploding drones including in high rise residential buildings near Moscow.

The attack came as a Ukrainian delegation was set to meet with America's top diplomat Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia about ending the three-year war with Russia.

Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in Jeddah for talks with the Saudi Crown Prince yesterday, will not stay for today's meeting, which marks a new diplomatic push after the Ukrainian President's explosive row with Donald Trump last week.

There has been no immediate comment from Kyiv on the strikes which shook Moscow and other Russian regions overnight.

The most drones - 126 - were shot down over Kursk across the border from Ukraine, parts of which Kyiv's forces control, while 91 were shot down over the Moscow region.

Other areas impacted by the strikes included Belgorod, Bryansk and Voronezh on the border with Ukraine and those deeper inside Russia, such as Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol and Ryazan.

Earlier, Ukraine made a rare deployment of US-supplied HIMARS missiles against Russian territory at Dobrynya shopping centre in Belaya Sloboda, Kursk region, where four people were reported killed and 10 injured, including several teenagers.

One drone exploded in Kurchatov, a town close to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, seen on footage and leading to a small fire.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said over 70 drones targeted the Russian capital and were shot down as they were flying toward it.

Drones were shot down in the Ramensky and Domodedovo districts of the Moscow region surrounding the Russian capital, he said on the messaging app Telegram.

Twenty people - including two children - were injured during the attack by drones flying to Moscow, in Vidnoye, Ramenskoye and Domodedovo, said reports.

Hundreds of people were also forced to evacuate their homes as the drones rained down.

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, said one person was killed and three more wounded as a result of the drone attack.

The attack damaged seven apartments in a residential building in the Ramensky district, he said.

It also set cars on fire in a parking lot in the Domodedovo district, according to Russian state news agencies RIA Novosti and Tass.

Mash news outlet said Ukraine had used AN-196 Liutyi domestically-made drones as the mainstay of the overnight strikes.

A resident on Domodedovskaya Street in Moscow said she heard the drone - 'the sound of a moped - and it crashes into the house, there's an orange flash and that's it'.

A key focus of the Ukrainian strikes was Kursk region, where thousands of Kyiv's troops risk being surrounded by Russian forces backed by North Korean fighters.

Other regions hit in the concerted Ukrainian offensive included Lipetsk and Tula.

Zakharova: Ukrainian UAV attack shows terrorist nature of Kyiv

The attack of Ukrainian drones on Russian regions demonstrates the terrorist nature of Kiev. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"By an unfortunate coincidence, which has become a regular occurrence, [OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu] came under attack - not physically, but while in a geographical location - by Kiev-regime VAS drones, which are directed, among other things, at the capital when a high-ranking international delegation is there. <…> Apparently, so that they would learn about the terrorist nature of the Kiev regime not from papers, but in practice," TASS quotes Zakharova as saying.

Zakharova noted that the OSCE delegation headed by Sinirlioglu will be taken to the crash site of the Ukrainian UAV in Moscow so that the Secretary General of the organization “will learn about a non-existent reality not from his own reports, which are given to him, among other things, by those who sponsor the Kiev regime, but so that he will learn about the reality that actually exists.”

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the night of March 11, air defense systems shot down over 330 Ukrainian drones over the territory of ten Russian regions. 91 UAVs were intercepted over the Moscow region. The Kursk region was subjected to the most massive raid - 126 drones were shot down there.

Another 38 drones were shot down over the Bryansk region, 25 over Belgorod, 22 over Ryazan, ten over Kaluga, eight over Lipetsk and Oryol regions. Six UAVs were neutralized over the Voronezh region, and three more over Nizhny Novgorod.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
New York fires more than 2,000 prison guards for refusing to return to work after illegal strike
[FoxNews] 'After 22 days of an illegal strike, the governor and I are happy to report it is now ended,' Corrections Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said

New York officials fired more than 2,000 prison guards on Monday for not returning to work after a weekslong strike.

Enough correctional officers had returned to work for the state to declare an end to the wildcat strike, a labor action that violated a state law prohibiting strikes by most public employees.

"After 22 days of an illegal strike, the governor and I are happy to report it is now ended," Corrections Commissioner Daniel Martuscello said during a virtual press briefing.

The state and the guards’ union, the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, reached a new deal to end the strike over the weekend, but it was contingent on at least 85% of staff returning to work by Monday morning. While the 85% goal was not met, Martuscello said the state would honor some of the agreement's provisions, including on overtime work.

Martuscello said the National Guard would remain in place at prisons to support staff while the department pursues an aggressive recruiting campaign to bring in additional employees. Gov. Kathy Hochul had deployed the National Guard to some prisons to fill in for striking workers.

About 10,000 security staff are available to work in prisons across the state, down from about 13,500 before the wildcat strike, the commissioner said.

"Termination letters have been sent to over 2,000 officers who remained on strike. Officers and sergeants who did not have preapproved medical leave and didn’t return by this morning, 6:45 a.m. deadline, have been terminated effective immediately," Martuscello said.

Guards frustrated over working conditions began walking off the job on Feb. 17 at many state prisons. Inmates have complained about deteriorating conditions behind bars since the walkout.

A special prosecutor is also probing the March 1 death of an inmate, 22-year-old Messiah Nantwi, at Mid-State Correctional Facility. Other inmates said Nantwi was brutally beaten by correctional officers, and 15 staffers have been placed on administrative leave after the inmate's death.

According to a court filing by the state attorney general's office, there is "probable cause to believe" that as many as nine correctional officers either caused or could be implicated in Nantwi's death.

Mid-State is across the street from the Marcy Correctional Facility, where six guards have been charged with murder in the December beating death of Robert Brooks.

Another inmate, 61-year-old Jonathon Grant, was pronounced dead last month after he was found unresponsive in his cell at the Auburn Correctional Facility amid the ongoing labor strike, although it is unclear if prison staffing played a role in his death.

The strike was not sanctioned by the officers' union.

Two previous deals that sought to end the strike failed to bring back enough guards to declare an end to the labor action.

As was included in the previous agreements, the deal reached over the weekend addresses a key complaint of the guards by issuing a 90-day suspension of a provision of a state law that limits the use of solitary confinement. During the pause, the state will evaluate if reinstating the law would create an unreasonable risk to staff and inmate safety.

Guards will also work 12-hour shifts and the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision will not discipline officers who participated in the strike if they returned by the Monday deadline.

Europe
Germany plans to 'defy EU laws' with mass rejection of asylum seekers at its borders following spate of terror attacks
First stop the flood, then drain the pond.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Germany's new government is planning to turn away asylum seekers from its borders en masse regardless of agreement from its neighbours, a member of the incoming coalition has claimed.

Jens Spahn, a Christian Democratic Union (CDU) politician and former minister under Angela Merkel, revealed the new policy direction following talks with the Social Democrats (SPD) over the weekend.

Mr Spahn told the Table.Briefings podcast that Germany's neighbours would be informed and possibly coordinated with - apparently contradicting claims made on Saturday that Germany would only turn back asylum seekers in conjunction with its partners.

'We are not making ourselves dependent on the consent of the other countries,' deputy leader of Germany's conservative CDU/CSU parliamentary group said on Sunday.

He noted that the existing agreement on migration 'doesn't say agree but in coordination', and that 'we see all the legal bases there to enforce it either way'.

But critics have already suggested it would be a breach of EU migration law and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) if adopted. Mr Spahn has previously suggested Germany could leave the ECHR to overcome legal obstacles.

The announcement comes after Austria, to the south, rejected Germany's idea of turning back asylum seekers at the border, insisting it would not accept them either.

The harder line on migration comes in the wake of a spate of terror attacks across Germany in recent months and a shift to the right among voters, with burgeoning support for the far-right Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party pressing centrist parties to change course.

Germany's conservatives under future chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Saturday that his CDU party had come to an agreement in principle with the centre-left SPD to form a coalition government.

He said both sides had agreed on tough new steps to limit irregular immigration, including refusing all undocumented migrants at the borders, including asylum seekers. Merz has stressed the need to win back votes from from the AfD, which secured more than 20 per cent of votes in the election.

Spahn said the SPD has been cooperative on the issue: 'We have a common interest in limiting migration.'

The rejection of asylum seekers at the borders was at the centre of the CDU's campaign in an effort to hold on to voters unsettled by recent attacks on German soil.

Merz has repeatedly pledged not to work with the far-right anti-immigrant AfD party despite their second-place finish, upholding a longstanding 'firewall' not to work with the party.

Outgoing chancellor Olaf Scholz last month extended strict border controls brought in to tackle migration and Islamist terrorism, ahead of the February 23 election.

But the tightening of borders has not been without backlash. The move, which saw 640 people turned back and 17 extremists identified by police in just the first five days, was met with condemnation from several European partners.

Scholz at the time cited figures showing asylum applications had fallen by a third last year from 2023 and that 1,900 people smugglers had been arrested.

Amid a shift in European policy towards migration, the EU is expected today to open the way for member states to set up migrant return centres outside the bloc following pressure from governments to facilitate deportations.

The European Commission is to unveil a controversial planned reform of the EU's return system, which critics say is inadequate in its present form.

Data shows that less than 20 percent of irregular migrants who are ordered to leave Europe currently do so.

'We want to put in place a truly European system for returns, preventing absconding, and facilitating the return of third-country nationals with no right to stay,' commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said Sunday.

A souring of public opinion on migration has fuelled hard-right electoral gains in several EU countries, upping pressure on governments to harden their stance.

Led by immigration hawks including Sweden, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands, EU leaders called in October for urgent new legislation to increase and speed up returns and for the commission to assess 'innovative' ways to counter irregular migration.

Most controversial among them is the creation of 'return hubs' outside the European Union where failed asylum seekers could be sent pending transfer back home.

This is not possible at present as under EU rules migrants can be transferred only to their country of origin or a country they transited from, unless they agree otherwise.

Magnus Brunner, the commissioner for migration, is expected to propose to the European Parliament in Strasbourg legal changes allowing EU countries to strike deals with other nations to set up such centres, according to people familiar with the matter.

An expansion of the conditions under which irregular migrants can be detained is also likely to be featured in the proposal, which will need backing from parliament and member states to become law.

Fraught with legal and ethical concerns, some experts say return hubs are an expensive and impractical idea that is unlikely to see large-scale uptake any time soon in spite of the commission's proposal.

For Jacob Kirkegaard of Bruegel, a think tank, the amendments reflect a 'path of least resistance' chosen by von der Leyen when dealing with divisive issues that are no longer a priority given the fraught international environment.

Brussels is currently busy dealing with US tariff threats, an aggressive Russia and the prospect of a collapse in transatlantic relations.

'This is simply about political bandwidth,' Kirkegaard said. 'She's going to get out of the way' and let member states do what they want, he said of von der Leyen.

The changes are likely to upset rights groups, some of which have already voiced concerns.

'This new proposal will be harmful and confirms the EU's obsession with deportations,' said Silvia Carta of the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM).

'We can likely expect more people being locked up in immigration detention centres across Europe, families separated, and people sent to countries they don't even know,' she said.

Britain recently abandoned a similar scheme to deport illegal migrants to Rwanda, and Italian-run facilities to process migrants in Albania, coming with an estimated cost of 160 million euros ($175 million) a year, are bogged down in the courts.

Return hubs will conceivably face a similar slew of legal challenges if they are set up, said Olivia Sundberg Diez of Amnesty International.

'We can expect drawn-out litigation, probably costly centres sitting empty and lives in limbo in the meantime,' she said.

Yet proponents say there are few viable alternatives.

'If we are not going to do the return hubs, what will we do instead is my question? We have tried other systems for many years, it doesn't work,' Johan Forssell, Sweden's migration minister, told AFP.

Irregular border crossings detected into the European Union were down 38 percent to 239,000 last year after an almost 10-year peak in 2023, according to EU border agency Frontex.

PA forces kill fighter in Jenin, IDF kills 3 armed Paleos, arrest 10 in Jenin raid
[GEO.TV] Palestinian Authority security forces have shot and killed a fighter involved in armed resistance against Israel in the occupied West Bank, reported Al Jazeera, citing sources.

The report identified the slain fighter as Abdul-Rahman Abu Muna.

Four Palestinians reported killed in West Bank anti-terror raids

[IsraelTimes] IDF says three armed Palestinians shot during Jenin clash amid ‘Iron Wall’ operation; PA forces said to take out senior terror operative Abdel Rahman Abu Muna, angering Hamas

Israeli troops killed three armed bandidos murderous Moslems and arrested 10 terror suspects in the northern West Bank amid ongoing counterterror operations there, authorities said Tuesday.

Paleostinian Authority security forces also killed a senior terror operative in Jenin on Monday night, according to Paleostinian media.

Soldiers working together with police special forces and Shin Bet agents "encountered a number of armed bandidos murderous Moslems who had barricaded themselves in a building in Jenin, and after an exchange of fire, they killed two of the bandidos murderous Moslems and maimed another terrorist," according to a joint statement from the Israel Defense Forces, the Shin Bet and police.

In a separate incident, also in Jenin, troops from the Duvdevan unit killed a gunman who opened fire on them.

The Paleostinian Health Ministry said it had been informed by Israeli authorities "about the martyrdom of two citizens" who were rubbed out on Tuesday morning.

The ministry said Fayza Ibrahim Abu Ghali, 58, was "martyred due to the occupation’s aggression on Jenin." It did not offer further details on how she was killed. When AFP contacted the military about her death, it did not offer an immediate response.

The ministry also said Ahmad Fathi Ahmad Salah, 32, was killed "when he was run over by an occupation vehicle in Jenin."

Israel said it also arrested terror suspects, among them Liwa Jaz, whom it described as a senior terror operative in the Jenin area.

In addition, troops located two vehicles in Jenin that contained weapons and were intended to be used to carry out attacks and destroyed them, authorities said.

There were no injuries to Israeli forces.

The raid came amid a weeks-long Israeli operation in the West Bank dubbed Iron Wall. The effort, which began in late January, started in Jenin and has since expanded to refugee camps near Jenin, Tulkarem and Tubas where Israel says the PA has failed to crack down on terror.

PA FORCES SAID TO KILL SENIOR TERRORIST IN JENIN
According to Paleostinian media, PA forces stationed in Jenin killed Abdel Rahman Abu Muna, a senior member of the local Jenin Battalion group, Monday night.

Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
condemned the liquidation Tuesday, calling it a "dangerous escalation" by the Ramallah-based PA.

Hebrew media cited a PA front man who claimed that Abu Muna reportedly opened fire on Paleostinian security forces, who returned fire and killed him.

In December, PA forces launched a military operation against the Jenin Battalion — a local militia linked to the Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terror groups. Ramallah has struggled to exert control over the northern West Bank, particularly in refugee camps in and around Jenin, Nablus and Tulkarem.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: March 11, 2025
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22.41 Russian war criminals launched another missile attack on the Odessa seaport on Tuesday, March 11. According to preliminary information, four crew members of the MJ Pinar were killed and one sailor was injured.

22.27 Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in the event of mutual consent from the Russian Federation. However, this is by no means a frozen conflict. This was stated on Facebook by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, who took part in the negotiations in Saudi Arabia.

20:59 The United States has proposed establishing a 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during his evening address.

According to him, the key task for the United States will be convincing Russia to support this decision.

20.23 Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal to immediately introduce a temporary, 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, with the simultaneous acceptance and implementation by the Russian Federation. The US will inform Russia that reciprocity on the part of Russia is the key to achieving peace.

19.33 An explosion was heard near the railway station in Ivano-Frankivsk. All relevant services are working at the scene. This was reported by the press service of UZ. According to the preliminary version, it could have been a terrorist attack.

18:44 Ukrainian military are using a unique carrier drone at the front, which carries up to six FPV drones and also serves as a repeater. This was announced by Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, March 11.

17:20 Luhansk OTG fighters stopped a massive enemy assault with a column of armored vehicles in the Seversky direction. The video, filmed by the military, was published in the Telegram channel of Ukrainian journalist Andrey Tsaplienko. In total, 14 armored fighting vehicles (16 damaged), one tank (two damaged), three LATs, three buggies, two ATVs were destroyed. The enemy's manpower losses are 159 killed and wounded.

16:57 Chinese journalists have filmed a story from the Ukrainian Armed Forces positions for the first time since February 24, 2022. The Chinese also "participated" in the shelling of Russian positions. Ukrainian war correspondent Andrey Tsaplienko reported this on his Telegram channel and posted a corresponding excerpt from the Chinese TV channel's story.

16:44 Participants of the resistance movement who were held captive now have the right to receive the status of a participant in military operations. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense, amended the relevant Procedure. This was reported by the press service of the department on Tuesday, March 11.

16:06 The court sentenced informant Igor Kastyukevich, one of the Moscow "curators" of the temporarily occupied Kherson region, to 11 years in prison. This was reported by the SBU press service on Tuesday, March 11.

15:58 Russian propaganda has once again begun to spread fakes about Ukraine's so-called preparation of a "provocation at the Kursk NPP." This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on Telegram.

14:54 The head of the Sumy OVA Artyukh stated that there are no Russian troops left on the territory of Sumy region and that all attempts by sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) to break through from Kursk region have been eliminated by Ukrainian forces. He pointed this out on air during the telethon on Tuesday, March 11.

13:39 The French government refuses to demilitarize the Ukrainian army because it is the main guarantee of Ukraine's security. This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu.

13:26 In the city of Seversk, Russian invaders dropped an aerial bomb on a multi-story building. One person was killed and four others were injured, said Vadim Filashkin, head of the Donetsk OVA.

13:05 Due to Russian aggression against Ukraine, Europe can no longer take peace for granted. It has gotten rid of illusions about both the possibility of integration with Russia and the existence of permanent protection from the United States. Train Hijacked in Terror attack in Balochistan
[NYT] Separatist militants hijacked a train carrying more than 400 people in an isolated mountainous area of southwestern Pakistan on Tuesday. The fate of the passengers, dozens of whom the militants said they were holding hostage, was not immediately clear.

The militants, Baloch ethnic fighters, forced the train to stop in the Bolan district of Balochistan Province after opening fire on it, according to railway and police officials. The train was traveling from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. It was to pass through several cities, including Lahore and Rawalpindi, near Islamabad.
Courtesy of Skidmark, more from the Daily Mail:
Armed militants have taken 450 passengers hostage and wounded the train driver during a 'terrorist attack' in Pakistan's volatile southwestern Balochistan province, officials said.

The separatist Baloch Liberation Army has threatened to execute all the hostages it has in its custody if the Pakistani authorities attempt to intervene.

'Over 450 passengers onboard are being held hostage by gunmen,' Muhammad Kashif, a senior railway government official in Quetta, the capital of the province, told reporters.

The train was trapped inside a tunnel after the attack, during which it came under fire and the driver was wounded, police and railway officials said.

In a statement, the BLA claimed responsibility for the hijacking and said six military personnel had been killed in the gunfight.

The group said they had taken hostages from the train, including security forces, with the exact number in their custody unclear.

'During this operation, BLA fighters have released women, children, and Baloch passengers, ensuring that all remaining hostages are serving personnel of the occupying forces,' the group said in a statement.

No contact has been established with the 450 passengers and staff aboard the nine-coach train, railway officials told local media.

The Jaffar Express had been on its way from Quetta in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when it was fired on, officials said.

A decades-old insurgency in Balochistan by separatist militant groups has led to frequent attacks against the government, army and Chinese interests in the region, pressing demands for a share in its resources.

The oil- and mineral-rich Balochistan is Pakistan's largest but also least populated province.

It is a hub for the country's ethnic Baloch minority whose members say they face discrimination and exploitation by the central government.

The BLA seeks independence for Balochistan. It is the biggest of several ethnic insurgent groups that have battled the South Asian nation's government for decades, saying it unfairly exploits Balochistan's rich gas and mineral resources.
Frank G gives us the report from the NY Post:
Pakistani insurgents took over a passenger train carrying an estimated 500 people on Tuesday, with the separatists threatening to kill some 182 hostages if their demands were not met.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) blew up the tracks for the Jaffar Express train traveling through a tunnel in southwest Balochistan, killing at least 20 people in a subsequent shootout before hijacking the locomotive, local officials said.

The BLA claimed it freed all civilians on board the train, keeping about 182 alleged military and police personnel as hostages to exchange for the release of prisoners belonging to the separatist group.

The BLA, who has engaged in “intense” shootouts with responding forces, warned the Pakistani military not to interfere in the intense confrontation or else “all hostages will be executed.”

Balochistan officials have denied that there are any military officers on the train, slamming the attack as “an act of terrorism” threatening the lives of innocent civilians.

Imran Hayat, a senior official for Pakistan Railways, also refuted the BLA’s claim that it only killed Pakistani soldiers, noting that the train conductor was also killed in the assault, CNN reports.

Mahmud Bassal, front man for the Gaza Strip's civil defence agency, told AFP that the Israeli strike "on a group of citizens in the Netzarim area in south Gaza City" resulted in "four deaders including two brothers", all men in their 20s.

The Israeli military said that its air forces had struck "several murderous Moslems engaged in suspicious activity posing a threat to IDF troops".

Israel has carried out near-daily air strikes in Gaza since early March, often targeting what the military said were bandidos holy warriors planting bombs.

Iran’s Pezeshkian rejects Trump’s offer of nuke talks: ‘Do whatever the hell you want’
[IsraelTimes] Pezeshkian doubles down as Iran conducts joint naval drills with China and Russia amid US threats over nuclear program

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that his country would not negotiate with the United States over its rogue nuclear program while being threatened, telling President Donald Trump
...The Hero of Butler, Pennsylvania...
to "do whatever the hell you want,"
…to be fair, Iran also was uninterested in negotiating when America wasn’t threatening them…
as Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
held joint drills with Russia and China in an effort to demonstrate power.

"It is unacceptable for us that they [the US] give orders and make threats. I won’t even negotiate with you. Do whatever the hell you want," Iranian state media quoted Pezeshkian as saying.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...>
said on Saturday that Tehran would not be bullied into negotiations, a day after Trump said he had sent a letter to him seeking a new nuclear deal with Tehran. Iran says it hasn’t received any letter, but still issued a flurry of pronouncements over it.

While expressing openness to a deal with Tehran, Trump has reinstated the "maximum pressure" campaign he applied in his first term as president to isolate Iran from the global economy and drive its oil exports down toward zero, as the regime builds up stockpiles of uranium enriched to higher levels that needed for any civilian use.

Trump sought to ratchet up pressure Monday by ending a sanctions waiver that had allowed Iraq to buy electricity from its Shiite neighbor.

#1  I could go on and write a long explanation why tariffs are stupid and tariffs on steel are even more stupid. But as long as Trump loves tariffs, there really is no point. He'll learn it the hard way (no pun intended).

Btw in 2018 there was an overproduction of steel which led to unfair practices. But Europe and Canada weren't the culprits, that was China.

The situation has changed. Europe now needs all the steel it can produce, so YOU will swallow the higher prices.

And I will have to drink more Scotch instead of Bourbon.

#8  fwiw, the Canadian and US economies are pretty closely linked,

the US exports steel to Canada and imports steel from Canada - this is because there are different production/demand situations in different regions and also steel comes in different forms and different strength

I'm not sure, but I think that, at least one time, Canada subsidized its exports to the US by govt mandated favorable loan structures, tax management and other means

not sure if they still do this

I agree w Euro Conserve that free & fair trade between both countries would benefit both countries. However, getting to 'free&fair' and keeping it that way is a major problem. Perhaps getting to free&Fair requires Trumpian conflict.

#9  "Fair is in the eye of the beholder. Compared to China, trade between the US and Europe is quite fair, and TTIP would have eliminated most trade barriers.

I don't agree with Trump's vision (as emphasized in "Art of the Deal") that there are always "winners" and "losers" in a deal. It doesn't have to be that way, and I don't run my business with that vision.

There are many reasons for a trade deficit between two countries, and it doesn't have to mean that one side is "ripping off" the other. The U.S. has a huge trade surplus with the Netherlands, but that doesn't mean the U.S. is "ripping off" the poor Dutch.

Germany (still) has a strong manufacturing industry with products that the U.S. wants. OTOH, the U.S. has many services that Germany wants and needs (Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Hollywood).

A trade war will hurt both sides. Blanket tariffs are more likely to hurt the country that imposes them, because the other country will retaliate with very targeted tariffs to minimize the damage. But in the end, no one wins. Tariffs always have unintended consequences, especially when economies are closely linked. Tariffs don't make you rich, the consumer always pays the price.

#12  Everyone agrees that tariffs are bad.

But Free Trade only happens with products coming into America.

We were sold on the idea of Free Trade would make up for itself in that our exports would increase as our trade partners dropped that tariffs in relation to ours. But what happened is that we dropped our tariffs on them and they never dropped theirs tariffs on us. Tariffs are bad. Especially the tariffs Canada, Brazil, China, and the EU impose on the Unites States.

The first 200 years of America's Existence, we had no income tax and we had tariffs. We became the richest country in the world. 18th-19th Century, America was the jewel of the world.

#13  The EU's unweighted average tariff is 5.2%, that of the USA 3.5%, with 5,018 6-digit products recorded in the IFO customs database forming the basis of the calculation. These averages conceal high tariff peaks in many important sectors. So when Trump complains about "massive tariffs", he is not wrong, at least in some areas. At the same time, this complaint also applies - albeit to a lesser extent - to the US barriers. It would be time to think about a general reduction in the remaining tariffs worldwide. A downward adjustment
would be much better than an upward tariff increase.

#17  It takes two to tango.
From the IFO study (2018)

Situation for EU exporters
Let's select products only for which the EU (US) import tariff is at least 5% and the total exports of the US (EU) amount to more than half a million US dollars.
The unweighted average US import tariff on these goods is 12.2%; the median tariff is 6.9% and the import-weighted average import tariff is 8.5%.

This means that (i) a few very high tariffs drive the average up from the median value and that (ii) weighting with import figures drives the average tariff down significantly because little trade takes place in products with high tariffs. For these products, the US share of total EU exports is around 13%; across all products, the US accounts for 21% of EU exports. So it is quite clear that high tariffs are hindering EU exports.
Dairy products are particularly affected by US tariffs; these average 20.3% for the six products recorded. For small trucks, the US import duty is on average 22%. High customs duties are also due on EU exports to the USA of handbags, jewelry and shoes. But tobacco products (48.7%), baby food (22.9%) and chocolate (9%) are subject to high tariffs on the one hand; on the other hand, European companies have relatively high sales on the world markets and are obviously competitive.

Situation for US exporters
This mainly concerns passenger cars, to which a 10% tariff is applied. Various foodstuffs are also heavily taxed. The situation is particularly extreme for beef, where import duties of almost 70% are payable. For pork, the figure is 26.4%, for apples 17.3% and for grapes 20.2%. The US is competitive in all these areas, but can only sell small quantities in Europe.
Relatively high tariffs are also due in the EU on small trucks (15%), motorcycles (6%), buses (13%) and tractor units (16%). In some of these areas, US exports are de facto zero, although the US supplies significant quantities of these products to other countries (which typically have lower tariff barriers).

TTIP wanted to solve these problems.
Posted by: European Conservative || 03/12/2025 18:30 Comments || Top||

#18  we should also keep in mind that there are a lot of trade barriers and costs that are not tariffs. The include various licensing fees, certification requirements and all sorts of other things. I'm not at all sure we know the full extent of these.

As an example, at the Amsterdam Airport, compare the cost of a bottle or Coke and a bottle of Heineken.

I once said the USA has to overcome a sneakinss gap.

Trump admin cuts funding to Maine universities as state defies order to ban trans athletes from women's sports
[FoxNews] The U.S. Department of Agriculture is pausing funding to the University of Maine System (UMS), a network of eight public colleges in the state, according to UMS officials. The pause is in response to the state's recent refusal to comply with President Donald Trump's executive order to keep transgender athletes out of women's sports.

The pause in funding comes as the USDA reviews potential Title IX and Title VI violations by the universities, amid the state's recent refusal to comply with Trump's executive order to keep transgender athletes out of women's sports. Trump reaffirmed his intent to punish states that continue to allow trans athletes to compete with girls during his March 4 address to a joint session of Congress.

Trump's administration has now acted on that promise.

A UMS spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital on Tuesday it has been notified its funding will be paused.

Maine lawmaker says women should have a ‘fair and level’ playing field in sports after recent transgender athlete controversies Video

"An email forwarded to the University of Maine that appears to have originated from the USDA’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer directs the department’s 'awarding agencies and staff offices to temporarily no longer issue any payments or authorize any other releases of funding to Columbia University or the University of Maine System,'" the spokesperson said.

"The message goes on to state, 'This pause is temporary in nature while USDA evaluates if it should take any follow-on actions related to prospective Title VI or Title IX violations. Please take any necessary actions to effectuate this direction from leadership. This pause will remain in effect until further notice.'"

The UMS spokesperson says the system told the USDA the universities "were in compliance with relevant state and federal laws and that UMS universities are members of the NCAA," adding the system is "unaware" of any Title VI violations.

However, UMS says it will provide further clarity on the situation after "further analysis is completed."

In fiscal year 2024 alone, the USDA awarded $29.78 million in funding to UMS for research, the system said. The USDA claims it has provided over $100 million to the UMS in recent years in a letter addressed to the system.

Knocking the Chair Out from Under Erdogan: Why the Kurds Signed an 'Eternal Peace' with Damascus
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] On March 10, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi and the head of the transitional government of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa, who a month ago considered each other rivals and potential adversaries, signed an agreement on the integration of the SDF into the institutions of the transitional government of Syria.

The tactical alliance, which came as a surprise even to a part of the Syrian elite, opened up great opportunities for a “new Syria.” However, it also complicated the already tense relations within yesterday’s “armed opposition.”

"FULL OF OPTIMISM"
The document, which the parties refer to as nothing less than a “historic agreement” (and which the Arab press has even managed to pretentiously dub “eternal peace”), sets out a course for establishing a ceasefire throughout the entire country.

The Syrian Kurds have been promised full respect for their constitutional rights and freedoms, including access for members of parliament from the autonomous region to the legislative process, something the SDF has long fought for.

In response, Kurdish leaders pledged to abandon armed confrontation with Damascus, integrating their units into the national army, and transferring oil and gas fields to the control of the new authorities.

The parties are full of optimism and believe that the signing of the agreement was a major step towards a political solution to the Syrian conflict and overcoming the civil strife inherited from the previous government.

At the same time, the project of a “Syrian Kurdistan” on the Iraqi model, which implies broad autonomy for Kurdish communities, is wisely not being put on the agenda yet – representatives of the SDF understand perfectly well that the new authorities are not ready for such broad gestures, and therefore are defending their rights gradually.

BIG BROTHERS
Shortly before the signing of the agreement between the SDF and the “new Damascus,” Abdi additionally “synchronized watches” with the commander of the US Central Command, Michael Kurilla, receiving his “go-ahead” to form an alliance.

The US, as a long-standing ally (and one of the key sponsors) of the SDF in Syria, has only benefited from this turn of events. Pentagon analysts reasonably assume that the rapprochement of the two major factions will force Turkey to abandon the military operation against Arab-Kurdish forces that it has been threatening for the past months.

Moreover, Ankara will not turn its weapons against its ally in the form of official Damascus, which will allow the Americans to reduce their direct presence on Syrian territory and shift responsibility for stability in the oil-producing regions to the al-Sharaa cabinet.

The Americans are also convinced that the Syrian Kurds have a unique opportunity to exit the conflict with Turkey by demonstrating that there is no threat to Ankara's security. And it must be used as soon as possible.

Moreover, after the “peace appeal” of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and one of the ideological inspirers of modern Syrian Kurdistan, from a Turkish prison, the prospect of reconciliation between the two long-standing opponents became more real.

PKK supporters are gradually joining this trend, announcing the imminent holding of a general congress, at which the issue of the organization's self-dissolution and the end of armed struggle against Turkey and its allies will be raised.

And although the Kurdish leaders insist that they will make a decision on self-dissolution only on condition of Ocalan’s personal participation, the Syrian branch of the PKK preferred not to wait for the outcome and approached yesterday’s opponents on terms favorable to itself.

THE CIRCLE OF THE DISSATISFIED
The “eternal peace” between the Syrian Kurds and al-Sharaa’s cabinet undoubtedly strengthens the position of the new authorities and somewhat softens the claims of ethno-religious minorities, emphasizing the ability to seek compromises in difficult conditions. And here, al-Sharaa and his supporters are the clear winners of the situation, for whom this is the first major diplomatic victory within the country.

However, even in this interpretation, the new tactical alliance has its critics.

As expected, the pro-Turkish groups that see Abdi's fighters as future enemies were the ones most outraged by Damascus's decision to get closer to the SDF. In particular, the lack of a clause in the agreement on disarming the Kurdish militias caused a storm of criticism.

The commanders of the pro-Turkish groups do not hide the fact that such “frivolity” could “cost dearly” al-Sharaa and the Kurds will sooner or later have to be expelled from strategically important areas by force of arms

Pro-Turkish militants also fear that the "Kurdish sword" will be turned against them by Damascus - as part of a purge of those who disagree with the policies of the new authorities. And a precedent for this has already been partially created.

Al-Sharaa is trying with all its might to shift responsibility for the pogroms in the coastal regions of Syria to “gray” groups (including, for example, the “Al-Sultan Murad Division,” whose commanders are trying to challenge and sabotage any decisions of the Syrian cabinet), as well as to involve SDF commanders in the “search and detention of those responsible” for the massacre in Tartus and Latakia.

It is possible that at some point the command staff of the Division will also be among those guilty.

As for the Kurds themselves, it seems they have not yet fully decided on their position regarding the agreement with the new authorities in Damascus.

The enthusiastic assessments of the Kurdish elites that have filled the airwaves drown out the fears of ordinary residents, but do not dispel them completely. The latter are convinced that the promises made by the Syrian authorities are too shaky and no one guarantees that the next punitive action of the al-Sharaa cabinet will not be directed against Kurdish communities.

But Abdi’s entourage reacts to such pessimistic assessments briefly and extremely transparently: only time will tell how strong the “eternal peace” is.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Demonstration and deception: for what purpose did Zelensky launch 350 drones against Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Gevorg Mirzayan

[REGNUM] On the night of March 10-11, 2025, the Kiev regime organized the largest raid on Russian territory. Almost 350 drones took off from Ukrainian territory in the direction of Moscow and other cities in Western Russia. As a result, these drones killed three people, almost two dozen were injured. The facades of several residential buildings were also damaged, and several dozen cars were burned.

From a military point of view, this raid can be considered a failure.

" Our air defense systems worked very well - in the end, out of 350 drones, only a few were able to cause damage. Three dead, of course, is an irreparable loss for us, but this is not at all the effect that the Kiev regime initially counted on. In Kiev, they hoped that at least two hundred drones would fly to Moscow and cause a series of explosions in the center of the Russian capital," Andrey Klintsevich, head of the Center for the Study of Military and Political Conflicts, explains to Regnum.

However, on the other hand, even such a modest result will be used by the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, to achieve his two goals and objectives.

NEITHER RUSSIA NOR AMERICA NEEDS THE UKRAINIAN MISSILE
First, to threaten Moscow with escalation. “The strike… was a reminder that, despite the constant attacks on it and the colossal losses, Ukraine can still fight back,” writes the American The New York Times.

This means that it is too early for the Americans to write it off.

Moreover, Washington should have understood this precisely on March 11, when the American delegation, consisting of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump adviser Steven Witkoff, went to the Middle East to meet with Zelensky’s head of the administration Andriy Yermak, and the ministers of foreign affairs and defense Andriy Sybiha and Rustem Umerov.

"Zelensky decided to demonstrate strength before the start of negotiations with the Americans in Saudi Arabia. His goal was to show that Ukrainians are ready to fight. That Ukrainians have the strength and capabilities for this. And this coincides with the recent wave of publications in Western media about the Russian army experiencing difficulties at the front. Zelensky wanted the Americans not to put too much pressure on him regarding concessions to Moscow," RIAC expert Alexey Naumov explains to Regnum.

In the end, the goal was not achieved. At the time of submitting the article, the official results of the Ukrainian-American summit were not known, but, if we are to believe the publications of the Western media, Washington insisted that Zelensky's envoys (who came to the meeting in suits) accept almost all of Russia's demands.

However, this does not mean that the Kiev regime will not make new approaches to the demonstration projectile, especially since it has potential.

"Ukraine has the ability to carry out long-range strikes, and also to increase their number. Now we have seen 350 drones - and before there were 150, 200. Next time there may be 500. And an increase in the salvo will lead to the fact that a greater number of drones will be able to get through to Moscow," Klintsevich notes.

Yes, assembling drones requires money, and a lot of it, and from the point of view of the result, these investments seem illogical.

However, Ukraine can launch more than just drones.

"Using the developments of the Soviet era, they are developing a medium-range ballistic missile. This means that the weight of the warhead will no longer be 20 kilograms, but 500," the expert explains. Another thing is that neither Moscow nor Washington, which knows about Ukraine's readiness to sell weapons and technology to various terrorists, needs the Kiev regime to have such a missile.

SEDUCTION FOR A TRUCE
Zelensky's second goal was to drive Russia into a diplomatic trap.

To achieve this, a two-step plan was implemented: first, a large-scale air strike, and then a public call for the implementation of the British armistice formula - in the air, on the ground and at energy facilities.

“This is an additional signal to Putin that he should also be interested in a ceasefire in the air,” the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council said.

Zelensky's administration believes that it will succeed with any version of the Russian response. If Moscow agrees to such a truce, the Ukrainian army will breathe a sigh of relief - after all, Russia dominates the air and simply demolishes the fortified areas of the Kyiv regime's troops with the same KABs.

If Moscow refuses, and even delivers a powerful blow of retaliation, then it will be possible to tell the Americans that it is the Kremlin, not Kyiv, that is holding up the peace process. And at the very least, to get Washington to unblock military and economic aid, which the Americans do not formally provide because the head of the Kyiv regime does not demonstrate a desire for peace.

True, here too Ukraine will most likely face embarrassment.

Partly because Moscow is reading Kiev's game and is not going to fall for the Ukrainian bait. "Russia will not react in any sharp or unpredictable way. It will only act as it has been acting all this time," says Alexey Naumov.

Partly because Trump will not react to it either. The American president needs the conflict to end as soon as possible, and at the same time, he is indifferent to Ukrainian interests. Especially in a situation where Zelensky has personally insulted him. Therefore, he is unlikely to play formal games with Kiev.

Well, and of course, Kyiv is in for an embarrassment because with this blow it shot itself in the foot in terms of image.

"This raid is being used by the Russian side precisely to demonstrate the inconsistency of the Ukrainian positions. After all, instead of demonstrating an offensive on the front, which could demonstrate the strength of the Ukrainian army, Kiev is engaged in attacks on urban residential infrastructure that has no military value," Naumov is sure.

In other words, Kyiv is engaged in terrorism and simply seeks to kill as many civilians as possible. That is why the drones carried a new warhead - shrapnel, when steel balls fly apart at the speed of a bullet during an explosion.

This is why the Russian authorities brought OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu, who was visiting Moscow, to the site where one of the drones hit a residential building.

"They showed him the consequences of the attack, and most importantly, they showed him where the Kiev regime was hitting. It is important to understand that we are talking about residential buildings," said the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.

Yes, he called for not exaggerating expectations that the OSCE will change its position on the Ukrainian conflict after this. However, on the other hand, the water of facts wears away the ideological stone.

Especially after this stone has become very soft under the new White House administration.

#3  These Regnum folks must be paid by the word.

They are journalists, bless their hearts. 350 drones is a big strike. They must have been saving up. I wonder how many actually made it to their targets.

As a result, these drones killed three people, almost two dozen were injured. The facades of several residential buildings were also damaged, and several dozen cars were burned.

That sounds rather like collateral damage from air defense intercepts. Do we know what the Ukies were shooting at?

#8  The German army had a special name for this brutal hand to hand combat in the streets of
Stalingrad, they called it Rattenkrieg; "the war of the rats." German soldiers thought the name was quite
fitting, as the Red Army developed devastating tactics utilizing Stalingrad's sewer system. The Soviets
would send assault squads of about half a dozen men through the sewers behind German lines, peak up
through a manhole and wait for a German column to pass. Then they would open fire with machineguns,
and by the time German soldiers could react, the Soviets hid back in the sewers.8

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
'They Kill Everyone': How Central Asian Militants Carried Out Massacre in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Sergey Adamov

[REGNUM] The past few days in Syria have seen an unprecedented surge in violence against local religious minorities: Alawite Muslims and Christians. Social media has been rocked by hundreds of videos in which militants proudly documented their crimes, including mass murders of unarmed people and public torture.

Throughout the conflict, Regnum correspondents were in contact with residents of the Syrian coast, thanks to which they were able to collect dozens of testimonies from civilians about crimes committed by militants.

Eyewitnesses note that militants of foreign origin, natives of Central Asia and the Caucasus, who are noticeably different from Arabs in appearance and stand out against their background, showed particular cruelty in reprisals against the civilian population.
A longstanding problem in the region.
A Red Crescent volunteer, who witnessed mass executions, spoke about the atrocities of foreigners. "The murders are happening for no reason, it is not the military or soldiers who are doing this. These are foreigners - Afghans, Uzbeks, Uighurs," said the author of the video, published on social networks.

Now the new Syrian authorities are arresting civilians for communicating with the media (primarily with the Russian media), so all reports from sources are published anonymously. However, oral testimonies can only serve as confirmation of the crimes in which natives of the Caucasus and Central Asia took part, who do not hide their goals: to create a monolithic society in Syria, united by a radical ideology, in order to carry this ideology further.

GUESTS FROM THE EAST
Militants of foreign origin first appeared in Syria during the first stage of the civil war in 2011–2012. The leadership of the Al-Qaeda* movement called on Central Asians to participate in military operations in the Middle East.

Terrorists from Uzbekistan (Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, IMU), Tajikistan and the Caucasus (Anjad-Kavkaz*)
…or Ajnad al-Kavkaz, Chechen group that split off from Caucasus Emirate
were able to penetrate through Turkey into the northern regions of Syria, where they came into direct contact with the local branch of Al-Qaeda*, the Jabhat al-Nusra* group (later Hayat Tahrir al-Sham*).

Later, militants from among ethnic Uyghurs, representatives of the so-called “East Turkestan Islamic Movement” (ETIM)*, appeared on the territory of Syria.

The formed "terrorist international" took part in battles against government troops and by 2015 was able to establish control over the province of Idlib. A number of groups received their "allotments", for example, the Uyghurs settled in the area of the city of Jisr al-Shughur, and the Caucasians - the outskirts of Idlib.

The region has become a “promised land” for terrorists from all over the world, who have found in Idlib a safe haven and a springboard for planning attacks around the world. In the fall of 2024, it was these formations, as the most motivated, that took part in the offensive on Aleppo, which ended with the fall of the city, and subsequently the collapse of the government of Bashar al-Assad.

IN A NEW ROLE
The "revolutionary" government of Syria has praised the role of foreign formations, granting all foreign fighters Syrian citizenship and effectively legalizing their status.

Now the former “exiles” have become full-fledged citizens, and, what’s more, 100% loyal to the new regime.

The exact number of foreign fighters is unknown. According to Tajik authorities in 2024, there were about 400 Tajik citizens in the Syrian province of Idlib. The total number of "insurgents" in the ranks of the new Syrian army, according to various estimates, ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 people.

Former mercenaries received high positions in the new government.

For example, a native of Tajikistan, Saifiddin Tadjiboev, who was wanted in his home country on charges of terrorism and mercenarism, was appointed commander of the operational headquarters in the new government’s Ministry of Defense.

ON THE EVE OF THE MASSACRE
Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government, members of ethnic and religious minorities in Syria have lived in constant fear.

The new authorities in Damascus have officially declared that they will not persecute representatives of any community. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa (aka Mohammed Julani) has demonstratively met with heads of Christian churches, promising protection and patronage.

However, already in the first days of the "new Syria" a wave of attacks on churches and representatives of religious minorities swept across the country. Even then, militants of foreign origin distinguished themselves separately, simply ignoring Damascus' calls for religious tolerance and disarmament.

In the following months, it was these same formations that spread across the entire Syrian coast, viewing the region and its inhabitants as fair game.

After the first open clashes broke out, a total mobilization of radicals and their supporters, a kind of "activists", was declared in the neighboring provinces of Hama and Idlib, who were joined by local residents who wanted to rob their Alawite neighbors. However, the backbone of the "cleansing" forces was made up of armed foreigners.

Footage taken by a militant of Chechen origin, commenting on the events in Syria in Russian, is being published online. "There will be no mercy," the author of the videos says, showing footage of terrorist columns being transferred to Latakia. "We continue to clean up," reads the caption to the video of armored vehicles being deployed on the streets of coastal cities.

Over the following days, Regnum correspondents maintained round-the-clock contact with residents of the Syrian coast, receiving information about what was happening first-hand.

This is how residents of the city of Baniyas describe the first night of the pogroms: “Towards evening, the power went out in our neighborhood. Then groups of pogromists began to enter from different sides, they broke into cars, robbed stores, threw stones at windows. They were followed by armed people who went from house to house. They came to our neighbors’ house with a can of paint, they “marked” people, painted their faces black, insulted them, and then left threats and insults on the walls.”

Among the attackers, local residents particularly noted militants with a characteristic Turkic appearance, often not speaking Arabic. According to eyewitnesses, it was they who showed particular cruelty. An audio recording with instructions calling on local residents "loyal" to the government was distributed, calling on them not to go out into the streets. The voice on the recording says that "Uzbek and Chechen mujahideen" do not differentiate between Sunnis and Shiites and kill everyone.

BLOODY MARCH 8TH
By the morning of the second day of the conflict, the regime had managed to concentrate enough forces on the coast to conduct all-out raids. The Islamists were particularly brutal in the Alawite areas outside the Syrian coast, in the provinces of Hama and Homs.

Tellingly, foreign fighters did not hide their participation in the massacre. In the area of the city of Jabla, a group of Uzbek natives was “spotted”, broadcasting live from the scene and streaming in the Uzbek language. The fighters, belonging to the group “Tawhid wal Jihad”*, told their audience that they had come to Latakia “to punish the infidels” and shared their “political program”.

In particular, they propose that the new Syrian authorities "cleanse" the region and populate it with "faithful Muslims." Syrian Christians are offered either to convert to Islam or to pay "jizya" for life - a tax on non-Muslims in Koranic law.
How traditional.
In fact, we are talking about a doctrine of genocide, which provides for the extermination of the indigenous population, followed by its replacement by “faithful” ones.
Convert, pay jizya, or die. Sometimes only the third is on offer.
In order to more actively populate the coast with "faithful" militants from Central Asia took part in the massacre of Alawites in the village of al-Tuwaim in Hama province. In the "final" round, the radicals beat to death about 15 children aged between one and ten years. Some of the residents of Hama were able to hide in the mountains, but now these people are afraid to return to their homes.

"When we heard about the beginning of the conflict, my relatives were able to leave. There were old people left in the village who asked to leave them. We know that they have been killed now. Somewhere in the houses there are bodies that no one has removed because people are afraid to return for a long time. All the men were killed, some women have disappeared, and no one knows where they are," the source told IA Regnum.

DENOUEMENT
By the morning of March 9, the militants had reached the epicenter of the conflict, the city of Jabla, after which another wave of violence swept through the surrounding villages. In one of the videos made in the vicinity of Jabla, the militants filmed a residential building they had set on fire. "Look, the house of the Alawites is burning!" one of the authors of the video says.

Throughout the day, terrorist gangs continued to repeatedly "cleanse" populated areas, often shooting at everyone they encountered without distinction. At the same time, the heads of Syria's Christian churches issued a joint statement calling for an immediate end to the violence. The "world community" also joined the call, albeit belatedly.

Local residents report that a “clean-up” has begun in the cities of Baniyas, Tartus and Latakia: militants are removing corpses from city streets and even washing blood off the asphalt in preparation for the arrival of foreign journalists.

In a separate statement, Ahmed al-Sharaa said the government would set up a "commission" to investigate "incidents of violence" on the coast, but locals were under no illusions.

"We are still afraid to leave our homes now, no one can assess the damage done. Those who survived were left without all their property, others without their families. We will never forget these two terrible days. Now there is a "roll call" in the chats, we are looking for our own. But we know that there will be no justice for the criminals," the Syrians believe.

Events in Syria have vividly confirmed the worst fears about the prospects for a peaceful settlement in that country. But whatever their consequences, it is absolutely clear that terrorist groups operating in Syria pose a threat far beyond its borders, and that their militants may fall victim to far more than just Syrian ethno-confessional minorities.

People from post-Soviet countries who “distinguished themselves” by committing mass murders probably dream of returning to their native lands and repeating the same thing in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and, of course, in Russia.
Of course.

“Our servicemen found the bodies of elderly residents of Cherkassky Porechny killed by Ukrainian fascists in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross,” the channel’s publication says.

The body of a deceased disabled person, who had been beaten by militants before his death, was also found in the residential building. Information about the discovery of the murdered residents was forwarded to the investigative bodies.

The liberation of Cherkassky Porechny became known on March 9. On the same day, the Russian Armed Forces liberated the settlements of Malaya Loknya, Kositsa and the village of Lebedevka in the Kursk region.

According to the testimony of a resident of the village, the Ukrainian military deliberately launched a drone into the basement where a seven-year-old boy was hiding. As a result, the child died. In addition, civilians were shot with firearms.

On January 19, in the basements of houses in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye, Russian soldiers who liberated this settlement found the remains of seven civilians with their hands tied, bruises and bullet wounds. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of the murder of civilians.

Investigators also established the involvement of five Ukrainian servicemen in the murder of 22 civilians in Russkoye Porechnoye. From September 28 to November 24, 2024, the suspects killed 11 men and three women, and raped and killed eight more women. They then moved the bodies to the basements of private homes.

Accomplice of those killed by security forces in Makhachkala arrested
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A resident of Dagestan has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a terrorist group, of which the investigation believes the four people killed in a shootout with security forces are members.

As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, on the night of March 5, a counter-terrorist operation regime was declared in the Makhachkala village of Semender. Four people were killed in a shootout with security forces, and the Anti-Terrorist Committee declared them militants of the banned terrorist organization "Islamic State." The CTO regime was lifted that morning. All of the dead were residents of Dagestan.

According to the Dagestan operational headquarters, the security forces were checking information about possible preparations for a terrorist attack. During the arrest attempt, several people  opened fire  from automatic weapons at the traffic police officers. They were then blocked in one of the houses.

A criminal case on the creation of a terrorist community and participation in it (parts 1 and 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) is being investigated in Dagestan, the republican department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported today.

"On March 5, 2025, during operational activities during armed resistance, four members of the terrorist community were neutralized. The fifth member was detained and a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for him," the department's Telegram channel said.

According to the investigation, no later than June 2024, two residents of Dagestan united into a terrorist community to prepare to create an armed group. "No later than November 2024, three more residents of the republic joined the said terrorist community," the department stated.

Sumy region cleared of Russian troops - OVA
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] The Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated Russian troops in the Sumy region
Every attempt by the enemy to enter the region’s territory from the Russian side is harshly neutralized using the means of destruction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The head of the Sumy OVA, Artyukh, stated that there were no Russian troops left on the territory of Sumy Oblast and that all attempts by sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) to break through from Kursk Oblast had been eliminated by Ukrainian forces. He pointed this out on air during the telethon on Tuesday, March 11.

Artyukh emphasized that today not a single settlement is under the control of the Russians. Every attempt by the enemy to enter the territory of the region from the Russian side is harshly neutralized with the help of the means of destruction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"Currently, there are no units of Russian troops in any populated area. Those isolated cases and those sabotage and reconnaissance assault groups that are trying to enter the territory of Sumy Oblast from Kursk Oblast are being destroyed by the appropriate means of destruction of our units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Forces," he added.

Let us recall that the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that Russian troops are trying to gain a foothold in the area of the village of Novenkoye in the Sumy region and cut off logistics routes.

According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, a mass breach of the border between Novyi and Zhuravka in the Sumy region has not been recorded at the moment.

Earlier, DeepState analysts showed the village of Novenkoye on the map as a "gray" combat zone.

Fifth Column
A Dozen Arrests Made at the Latest 'Free Khalil' March
[HotAir] College students in New York held various walkouts today so they would be free to spend the day protesting on behalf of pro-Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
organizer Mamoud Khalil. It then became a gathering in Washington Square Park. The NY Post says there were about 350 people.

There were long, screechy speeches.

The group made their way to the NYC DHS building at which point police began to warn them about blocking the streets.

Again, the NYPD warns that protesters need to either keep marching or stay on the sidewalk. "You got two minutes. You gotta start moving again," the officer tells them. Their response is to literally slow-walk as they continue chanting.

Looks like a group of protesters decided to stand in the street holding hands and blocking traffic so police did start making arrests.

Arrests being made and marchers resisting arrest. It's FAFO time.

A dozen were arrested.

About a dozen protesters were cuffed as they clashed with NYPD officers during a demonstration in support of former Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.

Cops swarmed in to make arrests after throngs of protesters blocked a downtown Manhattan street, despite repeated warnings from police to clear the roadway.

The remnants of the group then marched toward Gracie Mansion.

Now it seems Mayor Adams is the focus of their attention.

Police were outnumbered and the mob pushed down the barricade and moved in.

At the last line of police barriers, marchers were told they would be arrested if they crossed.
From Fox News, courtesy of Skidmark:
A senior State Department official told Fox News that Rubio found Khalil's "presence and activities in the U.S. would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States and would compromise a compelling U.S. foreign policy interest, rendering him deportable under Section 237 (a)(4)(C) of the INA [Immigration & Nationality Act]."

The official said Section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act broadly contains grounds for which an alien who is in the U.S. after having been admitted or having had his or her status adjusted to that of lawful permanent resident may be removed.

Fox News is told that Section 237 (a)(4)(C) is a rarely used provision of the law that gives the secretary of state the power to seek to deport "[a]n alien whose presence or activities in the United States the Secretary of State has reasonable ground to believe would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States…"

The senior State Department official stressed this is about national security, not free speech.
It’s a bipartisan position, according to PJ Media:
In a statement on Monday, Trump reiterated that “pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity” will not be tolerated, noting that many protesters on campuses are “paid agitators.” (The Department of Homeland Security and the White House declined to comment on further actions at any other schools or how many arrests may be made in the coming weeks.)

Trump is right about "paid agitators." On July 9, Joe Biden's Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been funding some of the pro-Hamas demonstrations. Haines said that the Iranian regime has “become increasingly aggressive in their foreign influence efforts” and has “sought to opportunistically take advantage of ongoing protests regarding the war in Gaza.”
Skidmark gives us the Daily Mail’s take on the day here, with lots of photos, adding:
Dozens were arrested in New York City after swarming the streets to protest the arrest of 'pro-Hamas' rioter Mahmoud Khalil.

Student activists staged a sit-in at Columbia University on Tuesday, before hundreds of protestors descended on Washington Square Park, reported CBS News.

The group moved from the park, and marched through Lower Manhattan. Some protesters were arrested at City Hall, although police have not provided a total number of arrests as yet.
And from the NY Post:
Columbia University protest ringleader Mahmoud Khalil was being investigated as a potential national security threat, a source said Monday — as President Trump warned that the anti-Israel agitator’s bust will be the “first arrest of many.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio was “presented with intelligence” that determined that Khalil — a Syrian-born Palestinian who received his graduate degree from the elite school in December — was a threat to national security, a White House source said.

It wasn’t immediately known what intelligence Rubio was shown. But the source said the Department of Homeland Security has been “gathering intel” on those “actively engaging in supporting Hamas” — not just everyday protesters — since Trump’s executive order cracking down on anti-Israel demonstrators in the US on green cards.

Khalil, 30, was arrested at his university-owned apartment on Saturday, and is now confined at Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana, according to ICE records and a statement by his attorney, Amy Greer.

“They’re staging this guy for removal, but I don’t know where they’re gonna send him. We don’t have charter flights to send him to Syria,” another source said.

A Manhattan federal judge temporarily halted Khalil’s deportation Monday after the Columbia grad filed a petition with the court alleging that ICE had detained him illegally.
A little more from the Times of Israel Except apparently habeus corpus petitions are supposed to be filed in district court where the prisoner is being held. That is to say, in Louisiana, not the Southern District (Manhattan) of New York. Today’s session in NYC should be interesting.
Khalil, who earned his graduate degree at the School of International and Public Affairs, was the lead negotiator for Columbia United Apartheid Divest — a group that sympathizes with terror organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah and calls for the “end of Western civilization” — during last spring’s anti-Israel protests and student encampment at the university.

Moroccan man handed two-year jail term for praising terror attack in Israel
[IsraelTimes] Member of banned Islamist group denies hailing the stabbing of four people in Tel Aviv as the beginning of a ‘blessed racist campaign’; lawyer says he will appeal ruling

A Moroccan Islamist activist has been sentenced to two years in prison for "incitement to hatred" over social media posts praising a stabbing attack in Israel, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

Redouane El Kastit, a member of the banned but tolerated Al Adl Wal Ihssane movement,
…like the Muslim Brotherhood, they want to move Morocco toward ever greater Islamisation through the seduction of charities and university social groups, the latter because the founder was a n inspector in the education ministry…
was sentenced by a court in Tangier late Monday, his lawyer Mohammed Serroukh told AFP.

El Kastit was arrested on February 5 and charged with "incitement to hatred," "discrimination," and "insulting a public body" after about 15 posts he made on Facebook, his lawyer said.

According to the prosecution, the posts described a late-January stabbing of four people in Tel Aviv as the start of a "blessed racist campaign."

El Kastit denied making the posts on social media, the lawyer added.

He was also accused of posting a photo of the attacker, Abdelaziz Kaddi, and praising his Moroccan identity.

"The court considered this an endorsement of a terrorist act," Serroukh said.

The lawyer said he will appeal the "harsh ruling."

Kaddi, a US green card holder, arrived at Ben Gurion International Airport in late January and was granted entry by border authorities after being questioned by the Shin Bet, despite his profile reportedly raising some suspicions. Days later, he stabbed four people in Tel Aviv, two of whom were hospitalized in moderate condition. He was shot and killed during the attack.

Israel and Morocco normalized diplomatic relations in 2020. Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
war, Moroccans have demonstrated in the tens of thousands against the kingdom’s ties with the Jewish state and in support of Paleostinians.

Europe
Writer who wanted to ‘ram a knife down Jews’ throats’ acquitted by Belgian court
[IsraelTimes] Jewish groups around the world condemn the ruling, which branded the writing legitimate free expression, saying it sets a dangerous precedent for condoning future antisemitism

Belgian author Herman Brusselmans, who wrote last August, "I get so furious that I want to ram a sharp knife through the throat of every Jew I meet," was acquitted Tuesday by the Ghent court in Belgium of charges of Holocaust denial, racism, and incitement to hatred.

Jewish organizations around the world condemned the ruling, which determined that Brusselmans’ column was legitimate free expression. They warned it would set a dangerous precedent that would make it harder to fight antisemitism in Europe.

Last August, Brusselmans, a well-known writer and intellectual who appears regularly on television, sparked turmoil in Europe’s Jewish community when he wrote an ostensibly satirical piece in the Belgian magazine Humo describing his wrath after seeing Paleostinians dying in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
"I see an image of a crying and screaming Paleostinian boy, completely out of his mind, calling for his mother who is lying under the rubble," Brusselmans wrote. "I get so angry that I want to ram a sharp knife through the throat of every Jew I meet."

"Of course, you always have to remember: Not every Jew is a murderous bastard," he added. "I imagine an elderly Jewish man shuffling down my own street, dressed in a washed-out shirt, fake cotton trousers and old sandals, and I feel sorry for him and almost get tears in my eyes, but a moment later I wish him to hell."

Antisemitism has run rampant in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and across the world since Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
launched its war with Israel on October 7, 2023, drawing a military response that has killed more than 48,000 Paleostinians, according to unverified figures from the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza that do not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

Israel says it has killed some 20,000 combatants in battle as of January and another 1,000 hard boyz inside Israel on and just after October 7.

The Belgium court ruled that Brusselmans’ statement was a permissable form of free expression and did not constitute a criminal offense.

"The court recognizes that certain members of the Jewish community could possibly take offense at some sentences in some columns, but emphasizes that the author’s expressions of opinion are protected by the right to free speech," the judge wrote.

Following the ruling, European Jewish Association (EJA) president Rabbi Menachem Margolin called the decision "a deeply alarming message about the state of the fight against antisemitism in Belgium and Europe.’’

"Today, the Belgian justice system has established a grave precedent: hate crime laws are flexible — and when it comes to Jews, they suddenly become malleable,’’ he said.

"By issuing such a verdict, the Belgian judiciary sends a dangerous message: incitement to murder and hatred can be reinterpreted, excused, and ultimately legitimized — at least when the targets are Jews,’’ Margolin added. He called on the Belgian government to make urgent legislative reforms to close the legal loopholes that enable such "morally and legally indefensible rulings.’’

Jewish Information and Documentation Center chairman Michel Kotek also spoke out against the decision.

"This is a disgrace to Belgian jurisprudence. For someone who has been making such statements since 1993, we are no longer talking about an incident," he said. "This is a constant repetition of moves in which anti-Semitic statements predominate."

"We, too, are for freedom of speech," Kotek added. "But where it spills over into hatred and the deprivation of safety, that’s where a government must intervene."

Following the decision, Brusselmans told the Belgian news service VRT that he wasn’t sure if he would make similar statements in the future.

"That is difficult to answer. I do not know what I will write in the future," he said. "I write a column every week. I may adapt, I may not. But I am careful."

Netanyahu sues Ya'alon: 'I received nothing from Qatar, but I will from you'
[IsraelNationalNews] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he is suing former minister Moshe Ya'alon over Ya'alon's claim that he received money from Qatar.

"Nothing will stop me from continuing to make the right decisions for the security of our country. Not the fake campaign, the fake scandals that are constantly on the news. The people yawn because they know that everything is fake and the number of cases being filed is not keeping up with the number of cases being opened," Netanyahu said in a video he posted.

He added, "I have decided not to remain silent any longer. Today I sued 'Bogie' Ya'alon for the despicable lie he spread as if I received something from Qatar. I will tell you: I received nothing from Qatar, but I will receive from Bogie, and this is just the beginning."
