Venezuela hopes to tackle the world's worst inflation by deleting zeros from its currency
Genius, Nick! It's JUST that easy!
[WashingtonPost] Economic pledges may be par for the course in election campaigns, but in hyperinflationary Venezuela, the candidates' dueling promises are going further, with the incumbent vowing to lop a few zeros off the currency, while his main challenger calls for the adoption of the U.S. dollar.

President Nicolás Maduro late Thursday briefly outlined his monetary rescue plan. In a country where a dozen eggs can cost 250,000 bolivars ($5) amid worsening inflation, he would chop three zeros off the currency ‐ arguably bringing the price for those eggs down to 250.
"It's 1000 times less. Instantly! Surely this is a miracle!"
"I ask you all for your prayers and support for the success of the monetary reconversion," Maduro said in a televised event Thursday night.

The move came as Henri Falcon ‐ a former governor running against Maduro in elections set for May ‐ is proposing a far more radical fix. He wants to follow the path of countries such as Ecuador and Panama by dollarizing the Venezuelan economy. Doing so, he says, would prevent the printing of new bills - instantly constraining inflation.

Socialist Venezuela is going through a crisis that has left people struggling to pay for food and find medicines. Prices are being influenced by a black-market exchange rate that rises by the day and is currently five times the nearly inaccessible official rate.

Customers are standing in hours-long lines at banks to take out a daily limit, set so low that it barely covers the price of a cup of coffee. Larger transactions are done by bank card or transfer - although some vendors are charging double for electronic payments.

Maduro's redenomination plan was met with serious skepticism by critics and analysts, who say that the impact on hyperinflation would be minimal ‐ and that the plan would be confusing. By June 2, under Maduro's plan, new bolivars with lower denominations would be circulated ‐ but old ones, with denominations as high as 100,000, would remain valid. It would leave vendors charging two prices - one for old bills, the other for the redenominated bolivar.

Salaries too would be redenominated - so little would change in terms of buying power.

Perfect! Before, non-existing eggs cost 250,000, now they cost 250!

All you need now is a 5 dollar note and the eggs will magically appear.

Exactly! And at the root of it all is a government that borrows yuge sums of money driving savings interest below annual inflation rates, and even lower. Banks don't need or want our deposits, they get their money at nearly no cost from the government.

Climate Change Could Make The Opioid Crisis Worse

March 24th, 2018

By Marlene Cimons

America’s opioid epidemic has dominated the news media in recent years, as drug overdose deaths have escalated, decimating lives and families. And while climate change may not be top of mind in discussions about how to effectively deal with this crisis, it’s a factor that shouldn’t be ignored. Global warming spawns extreme weather, which begets destruction and despair, a dangerous scenario for people looking for a way to numb their emotional pain.
I'm sure that's more than enough for a lot of you; masochists and people who need a good laugh can read on.

UK 'Scientists' Predict Mass Extinction Event - We're All Gonna Die!
Here's your daily dose of over the top, very thinly sourced reasons we're all gonna die - not enough 'diversity' for species of shrimp?
[Indy 100] - Humans are sleepwalking into a mass extinction of species not seen since the demise of the dinosaurs, British scientists warned.

Man-made global change is threatening the diversity of different creatures that have taken millennia to evolve to live in niche habitats.

Creatures that have moved into delicate ecosystems such as coral reefs often live in symbiosis with others and are the slowest to recover their diversity if damaged.

But global warming and rising sea levels threatened to wipe out many species that cannot adapt to change quickly enough "in a blink of an eye."

In particular freshwater habitats are teeming with diverse birds and mammals but they are often form isolated pockets which are vulnerable to sudden change.

PA School Solves School Shooting Problem With Buckets Of Rocks
I think this one proves a theorem - if you're really stupid, do you know you're really stupid? These people don't.
[WNEP] - SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. -- There’s a rocky controversy when it comes to school safety in Schuylkill County.

The superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District is in the spotlight after telling lawmakers in Harrisburg his students protect themselves against potential school shooters with rocks.

"Every classroom has been equipped with a five-gallon bucket of river stone. If an armed intruder attempts to gain entrance into any of our classrooms, they will face a classroom full students armed with rocks and they will be stoned," said Dr. David Helsel.

That was Dr. Helsel testifying to the House Education Committee last week in Harrisburg.

The superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District was explaining his unconventional form of protecting the students in their schools in the event of an active shooter situation: give them rocks.

"At one time I just had the idea of river stone, they`re the right size for hands, you can throw them very hard and they will create or cause pain, which can distract," said Helsel.

Helsel says teachers, staff and students were given active shooter training through a program known as ALICE which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate and they routinely hold evacuation drills for active shooter simulations.

But if a teacher decides to lockdown a classroom, there are rocks in a five-gallon bucket kept in every classroom closet that students could throw if shooters get inside.

Still, Helsel says the rocks are seen as a last resort.

"We have devices installed in our doors that help to secure them, to make it very difficult to break through," said Helsel. "We also have, we train kids and talk about barricading the doors."

A teenager who is a senior a Blue Mountain High School and says he and other students like that plan.

"It matters because it will help protect the schools, anything helps, rocks are better than books and pencils."

Parents do as well.

"At this point, we have to get creative, we have to protect our kids first and foremost, throwing rocks, it's an option," said Dori Bornstein.

But not everyone thinks this is a practical line of defense.

"I think that's rather comical," said one college student in Schuylkill Haven.

"It's absurd, arm the teachers," said a parent in Schuylkill Haven.

#8  I think it is a brilliant idea. I remember discussions here at Rantburg about throwing everything at hand at a gunman or hijacker to confuse him and put him on the defensive —it is hard to aim a gun or cut someone when in the midst of flying bread rolls, for instance — and allows the children to take ownership of their own protection instead of worrying that someone else will get to the best hiding place first. Finally, while flying anything provides cover for someone(s) to tackle the bad guy and take away his weapons, rocks are actual weapons in the hands of someone who knows how to throw, not merely a distraction.

I’ve also read that the janitor carries a gun, with authorization to shoot in case of a situation.

John Bolton will finally let Donald Trump be Donald Trump on foreign policy
h/t Instapundit
Will newly appointed National Security Adviser John Bolton help feed Donald Trump’s foreign policy instincts? Let’s hope so.

The established narrative from the president’s critics has been that President Trump lacks the knowledge, experience and temperament to successfully manage America’s national security affairs. By this reasoning he had to be surrounded by an "axis of adults" to restrain his impulsiveness, lest the U.S. blunder into global conflict based on a stray Tweet or sudden tantrum.

...But the Trump administration’s foreign policy has been successful because of the president, not despite him. His "blunt, hard edge" style is better suited for the dangerous world we live in than the cool detachment of Obama-era "leading from behind." And if President Trump has disrupted the old way of doing things, it is only because the status quo was failing. He is winning in ways the old model would never have predicted.

...With respect to North Korea, critics feared that President Trump’s tough, almost contemptuous exchanges with "Rocket Man" Kim Jong Un, and veiled threats of preemptive military strikes might lead to devastating conflict. John Bolton and Mike Pompeo have taken similarly hawkish stances on dealing with Pyongyang. Yet instead of going to war, Kim reached out to the president, saying he is "committed to denuclearization."

...Previous presidents kept the China trade and North Korean issues separated, but trade is Washington’s primary point of leverage in the Sino-American relationship. If the president can get a better trade deal for American workers while also encouraging Beijing to make Pyongyang see reason and abandon its nuclear weapons, he could be in the running for a Nobel Peace Prize. And Bolton and Pompeo are likely to help him get there.

#6  The Japanese and the Chinese are notorious for tilting the field.

Shipping a US made car to Japan costs three times as much as shipping a Japanese made car to the US. Plus they have these myriad inspections and requirements that compliance must be verified on each auto creating months of delays.

Try shipping a Whirlpool refrigerator to China and see what happens.

What Trump is doing is forcing FAIR TRADE on the Chinese and Japanese and making the rules the same. Both countries hide tariffs and embargoes inside rules, regulations, and endless fees.

#7  China is making a fucking mint from mercantilism right now.

Japan's troubles stemmed from the fact that their economy was built on a ponzi-like scheme called 'credit ordering', not on the fact that they made a mint by exporting while not allowing imports.

Everyone screams "but it's going to hurt the global system of trade!" Yeah, that's right. The only beneficiaries will be the American people. Exactly who globalists despise the most.
Posted by: Herb McCoy7309 || 03/24/2018 10:38 Comments || Top||

#8  Many US trading items, the Chinese never buy in the first place. Pirated Silly-con Valley software, pirated Hollyweird "content." The Chinese were never going to buy it, so considering it "lost trade income" is absurd. On the other side, nobody in the US is in a position to steal Chinese make tires or car batteries or furniture or electronics or on and on. Unless we revert to making physical stuff that they would rather buy than make for themselves, the problem has no fix to speak of.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 03/24/2018 12:03 Comments || Top||

#9  Look, the whole trade deficit thing came about after WWII when the USA said, "OK we're going to bribe you to stay on our side and not go Communist, so we'll open our markets wide open to your goods. But feel free to keep our goods out to benefit your own people."

The problem is, after the Cold War ended, nobody bothered to change this. The globalists loved having influence and happily traded prosperity for American workers for it. NAFTA was the beginning of the end for the American working class. Then they had the bright idea of admitting China to the WTO, thinking for some bizarre reason that China would just break out in democracy, a system that China has never had. Surprise, that didn't happen and today China is experiencing unprecedented success with their "sell to America, keep our internal markets closed off" plan. We have the privilege of paying $375 billion every single year to trade with China. Europe, we pay $150 billion. We're getting royally fucked and the globalists don't care because do they give a shit about us deplorables? We can go die in a fire for all they care.

With tariffs, everyone loses but the American worker. It's about time we re-adjusted our economy to reflect the fact that we don't have to bribe Cold War allies any more. It's been a long free ride for everyone on our backs and now it's coming to an end.
Posted by: Herb McCoy7309 || 03/24/2018 12:20 Comments || Top||

#10  I agree, "trade deficit" is a slippery thing to use as a basis for any economic planning. In the sense that steel tariffs, for example, are supposed to support our "strategic industrial base," I'd say if that strategic base needs artificial support, we have a bigger problem. In the sense that tariffs are a sop to unions, well, unions were another of those bribes to stave off communism.

#11  And if "we all die in a fire," where will China and Europe get that $525 billion a year from? At some level, kill-the-host comes into play.

#16  With Trump signing the latest budget...

Let's suppose Trump did veto the bill:
Congress can override a veto with a 2/3rds majority in both houses. The Senate was 81-14 in favor. The House was 256-167. Wouldn't take a big swing to get to 2/3rds in the House given that "avoiding a shutdown" and/or "spiting Trump" provides cover. I'm not sure the bad PR would be worth it.

#17  I'm starting to think Trump should have brought in a bunch of WWF wrestlers and put them in top jobs with orders to clean house. Make everyone defend their job and then laugh as they quit rather than be subjected to being judged by someone they felt was beneath them.

Sure they might have had one or two body-slam incidents and lawsuits but it'd be worth it.

Then after a year you could put Bolton and others into position to rebuild the various departments.

#18  The tariff club was made for the one way street trading nations and their exclusionary import rules. But I believe the main reason for the putting the threat of tariffs out there was due to China. They have talked a nice game but they still continue their predatory behavior, and they don't do sh*t about the Norks. Just talk and circumvention of sanctions.

It is about time we weaned ourselves from the Chicoms. They need us more than we need them.

#19  Between 1950 and 1979. The US didn't produce anything in China, buy anything from China or sell anything in China. They were still the #1 economy in the world during that time. How was China doing during that same time period? All this noise about how the US "needs" China is only spoken by those without a basic knowledge of recent world history. All the US gets from China now is cheaper labor and sometimes/maybe access to the Chinese market for some of its companies. What China does for the US can be replaced. Perhaps not easily but it can be done. Where will China replace the massive US market? China perhaps has never learned the old saying, "don't bite the hand that feeds you."

China already bans facebook/youtube/twitter/google and a whole bunch of others. No loss there.

Is California Governor Jerry Brown Mentally Ill?
h/t Instapundit
Leftists are relentlessly selling their bogus narrative that Trump is insane. Here are samples of leftists' headlines: "Lawmakers Met With Psychiatrist About Trump's Mental Health," "President Trump's Mental State An 'Enormous Present Danger,'" "The Awkward Debate Around Trump's Mental Fitness," "The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists Assess."

So what has Trump done to convince leftists that he must be crazy? Unlike Republicans, Trump fearlessly confronts fake news media, calling them out when they lie. Unlike Obama's punish-evil-America-first presidency, Trump has America's best interest at heart. Unlike leftists seeking to dissolve our borders, Trump plans to build a wall to protect our people and our economy. Insanely, leftists cheered when Obama allowed Ebola into America, claiming it was racist and unfair for Americans not to be subjected to the disease. Unlike Obama, Hillary, Democrats, and fake news media's war on Christianity (forcing a 100-year-old order of Catholic nuns to fund contraception and forcing Christian businesses to service same-sex ceremonies), Trump vows to defend religious liberty.

So I guess, according to leftists' perverse way of thinking, that Trump must be crazy, along with the 63 million Americans who voted for him.

Meanwhile, leftists are ignoring glaring reasons to question the sanity of California's governor, Jerry Brown. The entire country is talking about the collapse of California due to decades of insane liberal policies. And what is Governor Brown's response? He implemented hundreds more destructive liberal rules, regulations, and giveaways to illegals. An article listing the top ten stupidest new California laws includes "Single-User Restrooms," "Controlling Cow Flatulence," "Legalizing Child Prostitution," and "Felons Voting."

UN rights council passes 5 anti-Israel resolutions
The United Nations Human Rights Council ended its first and longest session of the year Friday by adopting five resolutions critical of Israel's behavior toward the Palestinians or throwing support behind their long, fruitless cause for statehood.

Another two "country-specific" resolutions focused on Syria, where hundreds of thousands have died in a seven-year civil war. South Sudan, Myanmar, Iran and North Korea garnered one each.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
A SpaceX mission last year punched a hole in the ionosphere for a few hours.
[ArsTechnica] Contrary to popular belief, most of the time when a rocket launches, it does not go straight up into outer space. Rather, shortly after launch, most rockets will begin to pitch over into the downrange direction, limiting gravity drag and stress on the vehicle. Often, by 80 or 100km, a rocket is traveling nearly parallel to the Earth's surface before releasing its payload into orbit.

However, in August of last year, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch from California did not make such a pitch over maneuver. Rather, the Formosat-5 mission launched vertically and stayed that way for most of its ascent into space. The rocket could do this because the Taiwanese payload was light for the Falcon 9 rocket, weighing only 475kg and bound for an orbit 720km above the Earth's surface.

As a result of this launch profile, the rocket maintained a nearly vertical trajectory all the way through much of the Earth's ionosphere, which ranges from about 60km above the planet to 1,000km up. In doing so, the Falcon 9 booster and its second stage created unique, circular shockwaves. The rocket launch also punched a temporary, 900-km-wide hole into the plasma of the ionosphere.
Whoops!
Oh, yeah. I remember now. That was when all the air started rushing out of the atmosphere and they couldn't find Bruce Willis and millions of people died.
In the past, scientists have observed numerous examples of V-shaped shockwaves in the ionosphere, as rockets have flown through the upper atmosphere along nearly horizontal trajectories. These have come from Chinese rockets, North Korean missile launches, and some of SpaceX's other, more conventional Falcon 9 launches.

In the case of Formosat-5 mission, the rocket reached an altitude of 300km after about 5 minutes, and because of its vertical motion, it created not a V-shaped wave but rather giant, circular shock waves, according to a new paper in Space Weather. These circular waves extended over 1.8 million square km, or about four times the area of California, over the western United States and Pacific Ocean region. The scientists say these are the largest circular shockwaves known to have been induced by a rocket launch.

A few minutes later, an "ionosphere hole," which appeared 13 minutes after launch, was potentially of more consequence for GPS systems. This occurred when exhaust plumes from the Falcon 9 rocket's second stage depleted plasma levels across a 900-km wide area, which the scientists say probably caused about a 1-meter error in GPS navigation programs.

The lead author of the new study, Charles C.H. Lin of the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, said a rocket launch acts somewhat like a small volcano eruption, dumping energy into the middle and upper atmosphere. In the case of this Falcon 9 launch, it induced a plasma hole that lasted for two to three hours, which a magnitude comparable to a magnetic storm. The magnetic storm effect is global, however, whereas the rocket effect is regional.

Suu Kyi ally looks set for Myanmar presidency
[DAWN] A close ally of Myanmar's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi took a step closer to becoming the country's new president after the lower house overwhelmingly voted for Win Myint as its candidate on Friday.

The 66-year-old was the overriding favourite to take over the role when he resigned from his position as lower house speaker shortly after president Htin Kyaw abruptly stepped down on Wednesday.

-Land of the Free
This Week in Guns, March 24th, 2018

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

The anti gun people are not letting up. In all their complaints a clear picture is forming of the strategy of groups such as Everytown, a subsidiary of Bloomberg.

Reading an article which featured comments from surviving students of last month's Parkland, Florida massacre, it is clear the students are being fed their lines by Everytown, because every one of their demands is included in Bloomberg's shopping list. All are laws that have already been passed at the local level in a few states, laws such as universal background checks and bans on assault rifles.

Those infringements are being allowed by the courts to go unchallenged because, I believe, the federal courts will let every infringing law be implemented just as long as money passes hands from the individual to the government. Courts don't, apparently, strike down laws that can affect government revenues.

Unstated in the proposals as well, but every bit the truth, is that most of those proposals are unworkable by the federal government because of jurisdictional problems, not to mention Constitutional problems. The federal government cannot prosecute laws that have not taken place on physical territory of the federal government unless either the states have laws that allow the states themselves to prosecute those laws, or that allow federal police to make arrests.

But jurisdictional problems still exist, so the government gets around that by psyching out their detainees so much, the detainee confesses to the "crime."

In the money part of the current infringements taking place, we now learn that Youtube has changed their terms of service for use of their space to demonetize videos which instruct viewers in such subjects as how to build an AR. Early on, I heard that Youtube was removing videos as well. Youtube doesn't usually explain why.

As a result, some gun channels are planning to move their channels to Porn Hub. Porn Hub features nekkid wimmin shooting guns, so that could satisfy (pun intended) some segments of the gun community Another channel dedicated to firearms is Full 30. Dunno much about the provenance of Full 30, so we all get to wait and see how everything shakes out.

So much of these actions are based on the repeal of the net neutrality standard, which previously forced all carriers to let in any content on their pages and over their networks. Now with the new policy, in which carriers can pick and choose their customers, I think the Big Dawgs at Google decided to run off their gun communities.

I think in the long run, it is a good, good thing that gun communities are being forced to go to friendlier environs. The complaints of demonetization are dishonest, with the only cost to them up to this moment being the cost of making their videos. Now a shakeout can take place, and concomitantly quality will rise. I think, ultimately, Youtube is doing gun channels a solid favor.

Finally, Citibank, a bank with its hands in everyone's pockets, wants to run off their firearms customers. I guess the public accommodation laws don't count when your best supplier is planning to disarm their customers.

Loads.

Gentlemen, I question the need. The use case for the .577 Tyrannosaur is obvious as a general purpose round for hunting large theropods, but who needs a .444 for shooting fish? Although, if you are hunting fish, doing it with a lever-action rifle has a certain panache.

Egyptian security arrested over 19,000 terrorist elements in past 4 years: Interior minister
[AlAhram] In his first interview with the press, Egyptian Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel-Ghafar announced that that from 2014 to 2017 Egyptian security forces tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
19,108 terrorist elements with huge quantities of weapons and ammunitions.

In the interview with weekly al-Ahram al-Arabi magazine, Abdel-Ghafar also revealed that terrorist attacks notably reduced from 481 in 2014 to only 22 in 2017 in Egypt.

He also added that in the previous four years, the Egyptian security forces, in cooperation with other security services both domestic and abroad, managed to conduct preemptive security strikes that enabled them to destroy 992 terrorist hideouts and to confiscate 2322 different weapons as well hundreds of thousands of pieces of munitions.

The minister also added that the security forces were able to confiscate 1511 boom belts and bombs.

"We cannot depend solely on the security confrontation to terrorism, the responsibility goes to the state's institutions to raise the awareness of the citizens especially the youth to protect them from radicalism," the minister said in the interview.

Abdel-Ghafar also stressed that the ministry has not taken any exceptional procedures during the fight against terrorism.

"All procedures are done in accordance with the constitution and law as well human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
principles," he asserted.

Concerning undocumented immigration, Minister Abdel-Ghafer announced that a new department has been founded to fight human trafficking.

He also stated that from 2017 till today, 103 cases of undocumented immigration were foiled in Egypt as well 361 cases of illegal crossing of Egyptian borders, and 4419 non-legal migrants colonists have been arrested from different nationalities.

He also added the phenomenon of undocumented migration by sea from Egyptian shores has stopped thanks to a 2016 law that criminalized such activities with penalties ranging from a fine of EGP 200 all the way up to life imprisonment.

Afghanistan
Blast outside sports stadium packed with onlookers kills at least 14 Afghans
[ARABNEWS] A major kaboom at an entrance of a sports stadium, packed with hundreds of Afghans, killed 14 people on Friday in the southern city of Lashkargah, officials said.

They could not immediately say what caused the blast, some suspected it was triggered by a boom-mobile.

Hundreds of locals had gathered to watch a wrestling match when the kaboom went off in the evening local time, officials and locals said.

A front man for Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
’s governor, Omar Zwak said 14 people had bit the dust and over 40 were maimed.

"It was a heart-wrenching event, with people shouting and yelling as it took a while for the ambulance to arrive to the scene," Ahmad Shah an eyewitness said by phone from Lashkargah, the bustling provincial capital of Helmand, which is part of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’s stronghold.

Images on several TV stations showed a giant flame and plume of smoke rising from outside the stadium where some local officials were amongst the onlookers, residents said.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack which came a day after the killing of 33 civilians in a suicide kaboom in Kabul where people celebrated Naw Rouz, the first day of the country’s new year.

Most of the victims in Kabul’s attack, claimed by ISIS, were Shias.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
in a statement condemned the attack, adding "terrorists" can deter Afghans from marking their religious and national events.

The attack in Lashkargah came just as Afghans elsewhere celebrated a rare historical flash news over the country’s cricket players winning a game abroad, allowing them to contest for the first time in an international cricket match set for next year.

"The violence is non-stop here. We can not even enjoy our victories and events," Fazl Ahmad a Kabul resident told the Arab News.

"How long do we have to suffer like this? What is the responsibility of the government and the foreign troops here?" he asked.

Anti-Islam Protest with Funeral Candles at Merkel's Office
[AnNahar] Anti-Islam protesters placed funeral candles outside German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
's electoral office together with photos of young women who have been stabbed to death, some by asylum seekers, police said Friday.

The protest -- with the message "Islam is part of Germany?" written in yellow chalk on the pavement -- bore the logo of the far-right Identitarian Movement, which is under surveillance by Germany's domestic security service.

The pictures, candles and red roses were put there Thursday, hours after a German court placed in durance vile
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
for life Hussein Khavari, an asylum seeker claiming to be from Afghanistan, for the 2016 rape and murder of a medical student.

An image of his victim, Maria Ladenburger, 19, was among those of four young women placed in picture frames on the pavement, together with 14 candles and the flowers, outside Merkel's office in the Baltic Sea town of Stralsund.

Merkel has faced a harsh backlash against her decision in 2015 to open German borders to a mass influx of mostly Moslem asylum seekers.

It has sparked the rise of the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, the anti-Islam Pegida street movement, and the white pride Identitarian Movement.

Merkel this week further angered the extreme right by reiterating that, although Germany is historically mainly shaped by its Christian-Judaic tradition, today, with four million Moslems in the country, "Islam has become part of Germany."

Police told AFP they had removed the objects and were investigating whether a criminal offense had been committed.

The other photos were marked with the names Mia, Mireille and Keira.

A girl publicly identified only as Mia, 15, from the town of Kandel was stabbed to death in December in a supermarket by her former boyfriend, a refugee from Afghanistan believed to be around 20 years old.

Mireille, 17, was stabbed to death in March in Flensburg, and police have placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
as the chief suspect an 18-year-old Afghan asylum seeker.

And Keira, 14, was killed in a knife attack in early March in Berlin. Initially false reports spread online pointing to an Afghan attacker, before a 15-year-old German fellow student confessed to the killing, police said.

Lone Nigerian schoolgirl still held captive refused to convert for Boko Haram

captivity after the bully boyz released 104 classmates said Thursday her daughter was blocked from boarding the vehicle to freedom and told to convert to Islam. Fifteen-year-old Leah refused, Rebecca Sharibu told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

"She was about to board the vehicle that was to bring them back. Then Boko Haram said she should convert," the mother said.

"Her friends said they tried to convince her but she said she will not convert to Islam. Boko Haram said since she will not convert to Islam she should remain behind. That was how they left her. She is alone."

Leah Sharibu asked her departing Moslem classmates to pray for her.

CBS News' Debora Patta said similar cases have been seen before. In the kidnapping of the Chibok girls several years ago, "some of them did refuse to renounce their Christianity, they refused to wear Moslem attire, to chant Moslem prayers, as was shown over and over again in those 'proof of life' videos," Patta said.

President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed that Sharibu was the only schoolgirl still held by Boko Haram after the extraordinary release of the girls on Wednesday and vowed that she "will not be abandoned."

Buhari, himself a Moslem, said "true followers of Islam all over the world respect the injunction that there is no compulsion in religion."
E pur si muove.
He added that he looked forward to meeting with the girls who were freed.

The president's statement had no word on the five girls still unaccounted for.

Also Thursday, the father of one of the five girls said he has been told his daughter and the others are dead.
... thereby contradicting the previous paragraph.
Inuwa Garba told the AP that friends of his daughter who were freed told him the 16-year-old died from injuries in the frightened stampede that occurred during the mass abduction in Dapchi a month ago.

Former Bay Area resident killed in fiery crash at Travis AFB's main gate identified
More information about this story from yesterday.
[ABC7news] Officials said a 51-year-old former Bay Area resident who drove a flaming minivan loaded with propane tanks and gasoline cans through the main gate at Travis AFB has been identified.

Authorities extracted a video from his cell phone and are analyzing it to try and see if it could help point to a motive. Sources wouldn't offer any details about the video.

During a presser Friday, officials said the driver had no known links to terrorism.

FBI agent Sean Ragan said Hafiz Kazi was found dead inside the Kia minivan Wednesday evening shortly after rolling slowly through the main gate of Travis Air Force Base and crashing.

Ragan said five propane tanks, three one-gallon size gas cans and several lighters were found in the van along with three phones and a gym bag with "personal effects."

Ragan said "we don't have any nexus to terrorism at this point," but Sherlocks haven't determined a motive.

"Why did this individual end up at the front gate of Travis Air Force Base on fire, that's something we want to know, and the public wants to know," Ragan said.

Ragan said Kazi lived throughout the the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
Bay Area and has lived in the United States since 1993. He said Kazi is a native of India who was a permanent legal resident of the United States.

Ragan said they have been unable to find any of Kazi's family living in the United States. A family member in India has been notified of Kazi's death, Ragan said. He said Kazi appeared to work as a cab driver in the past, but that Sherlocks haven't determined if he was currently employed.

"There is no evidence of religious affiliation," Ragan said. "As of right now, we know of no other associates."

Putin thanks nation for re-election, promises ‘breakthrough’
[ARABNEWS] President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
thanked Russians on Friday for his landslide re-election to another six-year term, pledging to lead the country to an economic "breakthrough."

Putin’s live televised statement came shortly after the Central Election Commission officially declared him the winner of Sunday’s election with nearly 77 percent of the vote, putting him on track to become the nation’s longest-serving leader since Josef Stalin.

"Such a powerful civic activity, your responsibility and consolidation are extremely important now when we face serious domestic and external challenges," Putin said.

The massive victory ‐ Putin’s best-ever electoral showing ‐ will strengthen the president’s hand as he ponders his choices for shaping Russia’s political future beyond 2024: Groom a dependable successor, scrap term limits or create a new position of power to keep ruling the country after his fourth term ends.

India-Pakistan
Mystery surrounds Rao Anwar’s case
[DAWN] A WANTED man is now in official police custody and justice may yet be done.

The adamant pressure applied by Chief Justice of Pakistain Saqib Nisar finally delivered Rao Anwar, the disgraced Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police officer who is suspected of involvement in the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud, to Courtroom No 1 in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Mr Anwar was transferred to Karachi the same evening on the chief justice’s orders, and yesterday, the police officer was produced before an anti-terrorism judge in the picturesque provincial capital.

Arguably, without Chief Justice Nisar’s personal oversight of the search for the missing policeman, who was in hiding for two months, seemingly out of the collective reach of the country’s entire security apparatus ‐ civilian and military ‐ Mr Anwar would either be still on the lam or have found a way to escape abroad.

Interventions by the superior judiciary to protect the rights of the defenceless or punish the powerful who prey on the weak are occasionally justifiable and uncontroversial. The arrest of Rao Anwar is one of those positive instances.

Yet, the manner in which Mr Anwar appeared in the Supreme Court has raised a number of questions.

Clearly escorted by the Islamabad police and the anti-terrorism police, there has been no explanation offered for where he arrived from and how he came to be in the presence of a significant law-enforcement detail.

Mr Anwar’s mysterious disappearance is no ordinary matter. He is the prime suspect in a murder that has captured the nation’s attention and spawned an unprecedented protest movement.

No less a figure than the chief justice ordered his arrest, but for two months no intelligence, security or law-enforcement agency in the country was able to inform the Supreme Court of Mr Anwar’s whereabouts.

Yet, the runaway policeman was able to have letters delivered to the Supreme Court, and frequently communicated with the media. If it was not complicity on the part of some state elements, then it was gross incompetence by the security and intelligence apparatus that allowed Mr Anwar to evade official arrest for two months. The public deserves to know more.

If Mr Anwar’s trial is to become a watershed in our criminal justice and policing systems, sweeping reforms will have to be enacted.

A path-breaking report in this newspaper has documented Mr Anwar’s enormous criminal empire in Karachi and how a willingness to work for some powerful state elements and the political set-up shielded him from action.

His reign of terror in Karachi, however, was surely not the only one of its kind in the country. Criminal enterprises hiding in the folds of the state must be found and removed everywhere.

Bangladesh
First ever ostrich farm set up in Dinajpur
[Dhaka Tribune] An ostrich farm in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur, owned by Malaysian resident, Arjuman Ara Begum, has created quite a hype. It is likely the first ever farm in Bangladesh established for trade purposes.

She brought ostriches all the way from South Africa and eventually built an ostrich farm which draws in a great many exuberant visitors from all over the country every day.

Arjuman’s Eco Agro Farm in Malipara village is on one hectare of land belonging to her paternal family. The ostrich farm stretches across almost half of that area. There are a total of 15 ostriches on this farm aged five months, their weights ranging from 50kg to 60kg.

In 2014, Arjuman of Tarpanghat village in Dinajpur, settled in Malaysia with her entire family. When she visited Nepal she saw an ostrich farm there and grew a fascination towards it, intending to built one of her own someday.

"I returned home and started researching on the Internet regarding ostrich farms. Eventually, I managed to procure 20 ostrich chicks via a Bangladeshi importer from South Africa.

"After returning to Bangladesh, I built an ostrich farm in Malipara village in October 2016. Two of the ostrich chicks died on the farm but the rest survived, and now there are 15 on my farm," she added.

Speaking of her experience so far, Arjuman added: "I have crossed the hurdles of the initial stages of building the farm and now I am doing quite well. A month back, a team from South Africa visited my farm and they encouraged me on my venture, saying that the conditions in Bangladesh are favourable for raising ostriches."

The caretakers of the farm and local sources said this is the first ever venture of its kind in Nawabganj.

"Ostriches are gentle-natured birds that are fully mature at two years of age. They live on simple vegetation such as spinach and feed. They need to be showered and walked once in a while," local sources said.

Ostriches tend to lay 60 to 70 eggs in a year and grow up to weigh as much as 150 to 200kg. If ostriches are nurtured properly, the demand for beef will significantly reduce in the country. Similarly, the inflow of foreign currency will rise when ostrich feather, meat, and bones are exported.
They say ostrich meat tastes like beef. One egg is equivalent to 15-20 hen's eggs.
Livestock Officer Dr Nasirul Islam said: "I am not aware of any other ostrich farm in Bangladesh. But she [Arjuman] has built a private ostrich farm and brought in ostrich chicks.

"With adequate care, these ostriches will bring in tremendous success. We, at the upazila livestock department, are aiding her in any way possible. We hope this farm can remain prosperous" he added.

France hostage-taker Redouane Lakdim was killed, Interior Minister
A summary of yesterday’s events.
[ARABNEWS] La Belle France’s interior minister confirmed the death of the hostage taker at the supermarket in Carcassonne. The man who killed at least three people in attacks in southern La Belle France was a 26-year old known for petty crimes and possession of drugs, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told news hounds, adding that he acted alone.

Collomb named the attacker as Redouane Lakdim and said he was from nearby Carcassonne, where the attacks started.

"He was known for petty crimes. We had monitored him and thought there was no radicalisation," Collomb said.

Emanuel Macron on a trip to Brussels said that his country is still facing high levels of terror threat. Macron confirmed that the terror attack has killed 3 and injured 16.

Police have jugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a woman connected to Lakdim, a French prosecutor said.

Earlier the police launched a raid on a supermarket in southern La Belle France after two people were killed in the attack and three were maimed by a gunman who was screaming "Allahu Akbar". The gunman then fired shots at the police and took hostages in a supermarket in southwestern La Belle France.

A source at the Interior Ministry said three had died. "It is a temporary assessment as it could unfortunately get worse. Three people are maimed, including one of them seriously," the source said.

The station reported that the hostage-taker has claimed allegiance to ISIS and that he has demanded the release of Salah Abdeslam - the prime surviving suspect in the ISIS attacks that killed 130 people in Gay Paree in 2015.

More than 240 people have been killed in La Belle France in attacks since 2015 by assailants who pledged allegiance to, or were inspired by, ISIS.

The man first shot at four coppers in the historic town of Carcassonne before barricading himself in the Super-U supermarket in Trebes, about 8 km (5 miles) to the east.

A police union official said the attacker had killed one person with bullet in the head in Carcassonne before the hostage-taking.

The French policeman shot by Redouane Lakdim after swapping himself for a hostage in the siege at a supermarket in southwest La Belle France is "fighting for his life," President Emmanuel Macron said.

"He saved lives and honored his colleagues and his country," Macron said in a televised address, adding that the officer was "very seriously maimed."

Arnaud Beltrame, 45, was among a group of officers who rushed to the scene in the town of Trebes after the attacker, who claimed allegiance to the ISIS group, stormed the store and fired on shoppers and staff before taking them hostage.

"He is currently fighting for his life and all our thoughts go out to him and his family," Macron said.

Mugabe fights farm eviction
[HERALD.CO.ZW] Former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
, who was kicked-out of a mineral rich farm in Mazowe early this year, is not letting go and is fighting to regain the farm after the High Court granted him an order for his case to be heard on an urgent basis.

Mr Mugabe, claims proprietorship of the expansive Smithfield Farm through his Gushungo Holdings (Private) Limited.
He was evicted from the property in January this year to give unimpeded access to small-scale gold miners‐Shepherd Nyazvigo, Bright Mawonga and Mohammed Rezwan Khan, who claim to be the rightful owners of the same property.

The former president, who is now being represented by Advocate Thabani Mpofu from The Chambers‐Advocates of Zim-bob-we, last week successfully applied for the matter to be heard on an urgent basis.

In opposing the confirmation of the interim order, Gushungo Holdings’ security officer Mkhululi Nyoni, who deposed to an affidavit argues that the gold miners have no right to mine claims, which are subject to a subsisting Special Grant.
The court is being asked to determine whether gold miners have any rights to the mining claims in question.

It is argued that none of the miners is the holder of mining rights as alleged. "Mining rights are not conveyed by the Inspection Certificates, which are attached to the founding affidavit and on which applicants (Nyazvigo, Mawonga and Khan) place reliance," he argues.

He said there was a Special Grant, which is current and whose effect is to pour cold water on the claims made by the miners.
It is that Special Grant, he argues, which is the operative document and on the basis upon which mining rights to the piece of land involved are to be related.

The miners, Mr Nyoni said, should explain why they do not have the kind of authority, which is recognised by law and by the authority concerned.

"I reiterate that applicants do not own any mining claims," said Mr Nyoni. The miners, he said were not entitled to be on the farm concerned.

"In fact their presence constitutes a threat to the lawful farming activities presently being undertaken at the farm," he said. "In all circumstances, the application is without merit and ought to be dismissed with costs on the higher scale."

High Court judge Happias Zhou ruled in January that the Zim-bob-we Republic Police and Gushungo Holdings, through their personnel, should not interfere with the work of the gold miners pending determination of the matter.
The matter is yet to be set for hearing.

Turkey targets 155 suspected Gulenists in new operations, police, media say
[ARABNEWS] Ottoman Turkish authorities began rounding up 155 suspected followers of the holy man Fethullah Gülen

on Friday, police and media said.

Ankara accuses Gulen, who lives in the United States, of criminal masterminding a failed coup in July 2016, a claim he denies. Since the coup attempt, the authorities have placed in durance vile

thousands of his suspected followers and fired thousands more.

Friday’s roundup included warrants for 55 employees in 13 provinces of Isik Publications, a publishing company that printed Gulen’s books, Istanbul police said.

Warrants were also issued for 38 former coppers in six provinces who were accused of being members of Gulen’s purported network, the state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
Anadolu reported. Twenty-four were tossed into the calaboose, it said.

In addition, police targeted 62 executives of five labor unions in a third operation spread across seven provinces, Anadolu said. Thirty-eight were tossed into the calaboose, it said.

The labor unions were part of Aksiyon Is Confederation, an association of unions that was shut down over suspected links to the Gulen network.

In the 18 months through December 2017, nearly 160,000 people have been arrested and 152,000 civil servants sacked as part of a post-coup crackdown, according to a report published by the United Nations

on Tuesday.

The UN urged The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

to end its state of emergency, which was declared after the coup and has been extended six times. It accused Ankara of mass arrests, arbitrary sackings, collective punishment and torturing detainees.

Turkey’s foreign ministry said the report was filled with unfounded allegations and compared the criticism to propaganda from Death Eater groups.

The crackdown has also been criticized by Turkey’s Western allies, who accuse President Tayyip Erdogan of using the failed putsch as a pretext to quash dissent. Turkey says the measures are necessary to combat threats to national security.

Afghanistan
Cross-border shelling continues in Kunar province of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The local officials in eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
are saying that the cross-border shelling from the other side of Durand Line continue on this province as dozens of artillery shells landed in two district over a period of 24 hours.

Provincial police front man Faridullah Dehqan confirmed that more than 80 rounds of artillery shells landed on Nari and Dangam districts during the latest incursions that started on Tuesday.

He said the shelling did not result into the loss of lives but a house was damaged besides inflicting losses to the other properties.

The Ministry of Defense and the central government officials have not commented in this regard so far.

This comes as the Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
on Saturday shared the issue of cross-border artillery shelling on eastern provinces of Afghanistan during his meeting with Pakistain’s National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua.

In his meeting with Janjua, Abdullah said new opportunities are also available for the betterment of relations between Afghanistan and Pakistain, emphasizing that the Pak government should take necessary steps to establish an environment of trust between the two nations.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan officials had said the border forces have been granted permission to respond to the artillery shelling from the other side of the Durand Line.

A front man for the Ministry of Defense (MoD) Gen. Dawlat Waziri has told RFE’s Afghanistan service that the border forces do not need a permission to respond to the incursions.

He said they (bordre forces) have already been granted persmission to act and respond to the artilley shelling in a similar manner.

The Grand Turk
Scimitar-wielding Turkish governor vows to conquer Jerusalem
Very dramatic. Do have fun trying.
[TIMESOFISRAEL] A Ottoman Turkish regional governor last weekend declared while wielding a double-bladed scimitar above his head that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
’s forces would soon march into Jerusalem and other cities in the Middle East.

Necati Senturk, the government-appointed governor of the Kirsehir province, raised eyebrows with a speech from the balcony of the governor’s office as Ottoman Turkish troops were poised to take the Syrian city of Afrin from Kurdish militia.

"God willing, we will take Afrin. We will take Manbij," he said in videos posted on Ottoman Turkish news websites, referring to another Kurdish-held city in Syria.

Waving a sword known locally as a zulfiqar above his head with one hand and holding a megaphone in another, he added: "We will also go to djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, and we will go to Jerusalem!... God is Greatest!"

The Ottoman Turkish sultans controlled both the Iraqi city of Mosul and the holy city of Jerusalem for long periods during the Ottoman Empire.

'Dozens burned to death' in Syria attacks on East Ghouta
[Al Jazeera] Dozens of people, mostly women and kiddies, have been killed and 80 others injured after Syrian government forces bombed an underground shelter in Eastern Ghouta, according to rescuers and activists on the ground.

Sources on the ground and rescuers from the Syrian Civil Defence, a volunteer rescue group also known as the White Helmets, said on Friday that at least 37 victims burned to death after air raids carrying napalm gas hit the shelter in the town of Irbin.

"An air strike targeted one of the underground cellars in Irbin last night where between 117 to 125 people, mostly women and kiddies, were hiding," Izzet Moslemani, an activist in Eastern Ghouta, told Al Jazeera.

Abul Yusr, an activist and citizen journalist in Irbin told Al Jazeera that the corpse count was 45, and that the air raid had hit two shelters connected to one another by a corridor, leading to one becoming completely destroyed.

"The air strike entered through one shelter, where it went kaboom! and killed everyone in it. The fires spread through to the second shelter, which soon became totally engulfed in flames," Abul Yusr told Aljazeera.

"Some people managed to escape the fire in the second shelter, but their injuries are quite severe."

Nearly 170,000 Flee Violence in Syria's Afrin
[AnNahar] Nearly 170,000 people have fled after a Ottoman Turkish-led assault on the Kurdish-majority Syrian city of Afrin, the U.N. said Friday, pointing to the harrowing conditions faced by those displaced.

"The estimate now is 167,000 people have been displaced by hostilities in Afrin district," Jens Laerke, front man for the U.N. humanitarian agency, told news hounds in Geneva.

He said most of those who had left had gone to nearby Tal Rifaat.

The World Health Organization (WHO) meanwhile said it had deployed mobile medical clinics and health supplies to areas hosting those displaced from Afrin, warning that health services inside the city were also lacking.

"Children, women, and men have undertaken harrowing journeys to flee Afrin and need urgent health assistance. Our staff have met civilians who reported walking for 36 hours to reach safer areas," WHO's representative in Syria Elizabeth Hoff said in a statement.

Marixie Mercado, a spokeswoman for the U.N. children's agency, also said displaced people arriving at collective shelters in Nubul had described "running in the face of shelling, sleeping in the open, being separated from their families."

Ottoman Turkish troops and allied Syrian rebels seized control of Afrin city from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia on Sunday.

Ankara began its offensive in January against the YPG, which it says is allied with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) waging an insurgency against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
since 1984.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has put the number who have fled Afrin at 250,000, and says dozens of civilians have been killed in the fighting, in addition to around 1,500 Kurdish fighters.

According to Laerke, between 50,000 and 70,000 civilians are estimated to remain inside the city.

The health situation there is also difficult, the WHO said, pointing out that only one of four hospitals was currently functioning.

US charges 9 Iranians in massive hacking scheme
[IsraelTimes] Revolutionary Guard-linked hackers accused of stealing sensitive information from hundreds of American universities, private companies and government agencies

The Justice Department on Friday announced charges against 9 Iranians in a government-sponsored hacking scheme that pilfered sensitive information from hundreds of universities, private companies and government agencies.

The Iranian defendants are accused of working at the behest of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to steal large quantities of academic data from hundreds of universities in the United States and abroad as well as email accounts belonging to employees of government agencies and private companies.

Prosecutors say the defendants were affiliated with the Mabna Institute, an Iranian company that since at least 2013 has contracted with the Iranian government to conduct hacking.

The defendants are unlikely to ever be prosecuted in an American courtroom since there’s no extradition treaty with Iran. But the case is part of the government’s "name and shame" strategy to publicly identify foreign hackers and put their countries on notice.
It’s something, however symbolic. It also puts academics and others on notice that they ought to think about installing effective security measures.
Also Friday, the Treasury Department designated the Mabna Institute and the nine Iranians for sanctions.

"Today, not only are we publicly identifying the foreign hackers who committed these malicious cyber intrusions, but we are also sending a powerful message to their backers, the Government of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran: your acts do not go unnoticed," FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement.

"We will protect our innovation, ideas and information, and we will use every tool in our toolbox to expose those who commit these cybercrimes. Our memory is long; we will hold them accountable under the law, no matter where they attempt to hid," he added.

Man killed, cop injured in Karachi shootout
[DAWN] A suspected robber was killed and a police officer injured in an exchange of fire between law enforcers and two assailants on a cycle of violence in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's Dalmia area on Friday.

The incident took place when two suspicious individuals on a cycle of violence were asked by police to stop near Water Tank, Superintendent Police (SP) Gulshan Murtaza Bhutto told DawnNewsTV.

They, however, refused to stop and instead began firing at police and attempted to flee, the SP said. A police officer identified as Rana Arshad was injured in the firing and taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

When police returned fire, one of the assailants, Salman, was injured and succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital, the SP said. A 30-bore pistol and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, along with the cycle of violence.

The other assailant, identified as Riaz, was tossed in the clink
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
by police. He has 'confessed' to his involvement in the killing of a student, Asad, in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 1 on March 14, SP Bhutto said.

The official said Riaz had also confessed to his involvement in various incidents of street crime and robbery.

Police are searching for a third suspect, Nadeem, the official said. The three suspects are believed to have been part of a group of robbers that police had been attempting to track down since the murder of Asad last week.

Arabia
UAE-backed militia deports Yemenis from southern Yemen
[Al Jazeera] Nearly two dozen Yemenis have said they were beaten, tortured and arbitrarily held by militias affiliated with the United Arab Emirates in southern Yemen, then dumped hundreds of kilometres away in areas rife with violence and warned to never return.

In a series of videos and documents sent to Al Jazeera, the civilians said they were rounded up and driven from the port city of Aden by the UAE-created Security Belt - a force set up in 2016 to police southern areas in the war-ravaged country - to active front lines in the provinces of Taiz and Sanaa.

One resident who was recently deported said the Security Belt harassed "northern" women and the elderly.

"We were attacked in our hotels [by the Security Belt] and they kicked us out. We couldn't find anywhere to stay," he said.

"There were a large number of us and we had a lot of money [invested in Aden], but they harassed us, and told us this is not your country.

"They forced us out and even took our medication."

Shops, restaurants and homes were all raided by the Security Belt, others reported, with hundreds of people tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
and their assets seized.

"They gave us 24 hours to leave and said if we don't, we'll open fire at you," another man said. "They even killed one person in al-Mansoura [a district of Aden]."

Men who can’t handle it when the law gives women rights
[ARABNEWS] Over the past few weeks, threats have been made on social media against Syrian refugee women in Germany, especially those filing for divorce. These campaigns have escalated following the actions of a Syrian known as Abu Marwan, who murdered his ex-wife and broadcast a live video on Facebook moments after committing the crime.

I have watched part of the video posted by this person, but could not stare into the murderer’s face; instead my attention was fully drawn to the boy standing in the corner while his father explained his crime, argued for it, and justified it. The little boy stood listening to his father as he threatened Syrian women, who have found in asylum in Western countries the legal support that might rid them of domestic violence. Marwan announced very openly that his crime was a lesson for all women who want to get rid of their husbands, and warned that they would face a similar end.

There are many details surrounding the crime, starting with fleeing Syria, seeking asylum, integration difficulties, and later on legal separation under German civil law and the consequent financial blackmail that the husband used against his ex-wife ‐ according to their neighbors ‐ while she sought child custody.

Southeast Asia
Another Bangkok bomb plot suspect arrested
[Bangkok Post] Police arrested a 21-year-old man from Hat Yai district in Pattani province for allegedly plotting bombings with four others in Bangkok in October 2016.

Police arrested Muhammad Sakariya Damung on a train at Hat Yai train station on Monday morning. He was heading for Pattani from Bangkok, CSD superintendent Pol Col Sompong Suwannawong said. Mr Muhammad Sakariya is believed to have been involved in bomb plots in Bangkok and nearby provinces on Oct 25-30, 2016. He was the bomb maker. Police also suspected him of involvement in many bombings in the southern border of Narathiwat.

Authorities foiled the conspirators by raiding their rooms in Bang Kapi district of Bangkok and Bang Sao Thong district of Samut Prakan.

Mr Muhammad Sakariya was charged with collaborating to posses illegal explosives and with illegal association.

Deputy police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said the arrest came after police caught Mubariah Kana and three others for their alleged involvement in the plot earlier. Police later sought arrest warrants for 14 more suspects.

At present, there are 17 suspects in this case, 14 of whom are already in custody. The three at large are Usman Jaengor, the leader, Wae-arong Jaeuma and Abdulnase Awae.

#13  Gentlemen, when in doubt it always helps to go to the posted article. In this case, all of your objections are addressed in the first few lines, exactly as Seeking cure described, to whit:

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has declared a ruling on a white-hot issue, announcing that hot dogs are indeed sandwiches.

The octogenarian made her decision on the “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on March 21.

“I was told not to ask her about any pending cases before the court, but I just had to ask her about one of the most divisive issues facing our country,” Stephen Colbert quipped, but he evidently couldn’t resist.

“Is a hot dog a sandwich?” he asked the long serving Justice Ginsburg in a one-on-one interview. “You tell me what a sandwich is and then I’ll tell you if a hot dog is a sandwich,” she tactfully replied.

Normally y’all are much more insightful than this — perhaps a cup of coffee would help?

Zimbabwe: Give Mnangagwa Enough Time to Deliver, Says Outgoing U.S. Envoy
[All Africa] The out-going US Ambassador to Zim-bob-we Harry K. Thomas Jr says President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government needs enough time to deal with political and socio-economic challenges affecting the country.

Thomas Jr leaves Harare for USA this weekend as he retires from the diplomatic service.

Speaking to journalists in Harare on Thursday, the ambassador said he was happy with the positive stance that has been taken by the new leader to turn around the economy and work towards achieving a free and fair 2018 election.

According to Thomas, Mnangagwa's period in office so far cannot be used to judge his strengths and weaknesses.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
he stated that much has to be done by the government to make sure the country returns to civilian rule.

"Let us give Mnangagwa enough time to turn around the country's economy and making sure that the elections are held peacefully in a fair and free environment.

"There has been a positive development compared to six months ago before he came into power. He has allowed the international community like the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU), the US and others to come and observe elections after some years.

Iraq
Iraq arrests Hamas-linked chemist wanted by Israel
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi authorities have tossed in the clink
Please don't kill me!
a chemist linked with Paleostinian faction Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", on his way back from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
, a website close to the Paleostinian gang reported quoting his relatives.

Taha al-Jubouri was arrested upon his arrival to Baghdad International Airport, after he was surprisingly deported from Turkey, Quds Press reported.

According to the website, Iraqi intelligence agents interrogated Jubouri at a nearby prison facility.

Jubouri, 64, an Iraqi, was apprehended in Philippines’ capital Manila for entry documentation issues, after which he left to Istanbul in January, where he resided legally with his wife.

Iraqi authorities have yet to confirm the arrest.

In January, Philippines authorities said they arrested Jubouri who appeared to have been involved in the manufacturing of rockets fired by Hamas on Israel. The authorities said, however, his deportation was purely for visa issues.

Israel has regularly launched Arclight airstrikes on Hamas-controlled Gazoo Strip. Tel Aviv has accused Hamas of firing rockets targeting its settlements.

Boko Haram big turban surrenders
[DAILYPOST.NG] A top leader of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
sect has surrendered to Nigerian troops in the ongoing military operation in North east.

Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

He said that the person who gave up is one of the Shekau’s Amirs in Malumri village under Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

"Mallam Ramat Alamin aged 47 and Shuwa by tribe was intercepted by troops of 22 Brigade Garrison deployed along road Dikwa ‐ Gulumba Gana", the statement read.

"Mallam Ramat said he came to Dikwa to surrender himself to the troops due to the fact that Boko Haram Terrorists group could no longer hold itself and they are presently in disarray with little or no logistics to carry out their nefarious attacks.
Oh? What was that little kidnap-and-return of the schoolgirls the other day, then? And why did they keep Leah, the only Christian, if they lack logistics?
"He disclosed that his personal weapon AK 47 rifle with Registration No: H3 2538, four AK 47 empty magazines and one cycle of violence were hidden behind Government Teachers College Dikwa while trying to enter the town to surrender.

"He also said that, many of the Death Eaters are willing to surrender due to hunger and lack of basic logistics but are scared of the consequences.

"It is good and courageous for him to surrendered and would be recommended for Government de-radicalization programme.

"He gave out some information and encouraged other Death Eaters to take a cue from him and surrender in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

"It obvious that the fight against the snuffies is a decisive engagement as the Nigerian military is fully committed to the battle.

"This is paying great dividends as the snuffies could no longer take the heat.

"Operation Deep Punch 2 and other Operations have decimated and uprooted Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) from their stronghold in Sambisa forest," he added.

No place for 'judicial martial law' in Constitution, says CJP
[DAWN] Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday dismissed rumours of the possibility of "judicial martial law" being imposed in the country, saying that there was no Constitutional provision for such a move.

He also stated unequivocally that autocratic rule would not flourish in Pakistain as long as he is chief justice.

Addressing a congregation of students at Lahore's Cathedral Church on Pakistain Day, the CJP said, "The kind of things that are being said about a judicial martial law ‐ the Constitution does not allow any such thing."

The CJP asserted that he had "taken an oath to protect the Constitution".

"Any deviation from the Constitution will not be tolerated," he declared, vowing that he would not allow "democracy to be derailed in the country".

He said he hoped the upcoming elections would be independent and the next government would be formed in accordance with the Constitution.

He insisted that it was the duty of a judge to treat everyone, be it a ruler or a citizen, equally.

On the occasion, the CJP declared that the minorities of Pakistain were "very dear to the judiciary", recalling that Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had said on numerous occasions that non-Moslem communities in Pakistain would have the same rights as the Moslem majority.

Bomb blast misses Egypt's Alexandria security director; one policeman killed
The article fails to note that the Rafah border crossing into Gaza was opened yesterday. Nor does it note whether the gate was closed prematurely in response to this attack. Perhaps there is no connection this time.
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Alexandria security director survived an liquidation attempt on Saturday that killed one policeman and injured four others in a bombing in central Alexandria that targeted the security director’s convoy, state TV reported.

The interior ministry said in a statement that an improvised bomb placed under a car detonated as the security director’s convoy was passing in El-Moaskar El-Romany Street.

Egypt’s prosecutor-general Nabil Sadek has ordered that the High State Security and Sidi Gaber prosecution inspect the scene and take statements from the injured.

The attack comes days before Egypt is set to hold the 2018 presidential elections, which will take place from Monday to Wednesday.

Egypt's interior ministry and army have been beefing up security nationwide ahead of the elections, where incumbent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is facing the head of the Ghad Party Moussa Moustafa Moussa.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the Alexandria attack.

Saturday’s liquidation attempt is the first against a security official since end of 2016, which witnessed a number of attacks that included a failed liquidation attempt on a senior judicial official in September 2016, and the October 2016 liquidation of an army brigadier general who had previously served in North Sinai, where the army’s war against terrorism is concentrated.

It is also the first major attack in the Mediterranean city since the April 2017 bombing of St Mark's Cathedral, which killed 18 people during Palm Sunday celebrations.

Roseanne Barr Warns Kimmel: ‘You Want Pence For President? Then Zip That F**kin Lip!’
[Mediaite] Roseanne Barr and John Goodman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote the reboot of their classic sitcom Roseanne.

Part of the hype of the show’s return is that Barr’s character Roseanne Conner is a Trump supporter and that different members of the family have different political beliefs.

After discussing her brief stint in politics, Barr explained like in the show, there were some people in her family were pro-Hillary and others like herself who were pro-Trump and that there was "a lot of fighting."

"Weren’t you a friend, like a good friend, of Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
’s at one point?" Kimmel asked.

"Yeah, I was," Barr responded. "I had some disagreement with her foreign policy."

Kimmel said he was "shocked" that for someone as socially liberal as herself would support Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"I’m still the same! You all moved," Barr shot back. "You all went so f‐kin far out, you lost everything. I mean seriously, a lot of your audience, including me... a lot of us, no matter who we voted for, we don’t want to see our president fail, you know? Because we don’t want Pence."

She then pressed Kimmel about whether he wanted the vice president as our president.

"You want Pence for the frickin president?" Bar asked.

"Oh, no," Kimmel responded.

"Then you zip that f**kin lip!" Barr demanded.
How shocking — common sense on late night television!
"This is kinda what the show is like, by the way," Kimmel chuckled.

Barr told Kimmel that one of her daughters was "weeping" after the election and she told her to "just chill!"

"Try to think positive for like why people wanted a change," Barr elaborated. "It’s up to the people, here’s my two cents damn it, it’s up to us to make this government work, no matter who’s president. It’s up to us to do our jobs as citizens and if we don’t like something, you know, let them know you don’t like it and then you’ve got another election in two years. Get out there and vote. Change it if you don’t like it."

Two Abu Sayyaf rebels wanted in Malaysian mass abduction arrested
[BenarNews] Philippine soldiers have captured two Abu Sayyaf rebels who were a part of a faction involved in a bold cross-border abduction of foreign tourists from a Malaysian resort 18 years ago. The suspects, identified as Dani Suraidi and Amdak Jumah, went with troops willingly when they were picked up near the southern city of Zamboanga on Tuesday, regional police director Billy Beltran said.

Suraidi had a standing arrest warrant for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom in connection with an Abu Sayyaf raid in 2000 on Sipadan, an island resort in Sabah, a state in eastern Malaysia. Beltran said, "We have been looking for him for so long. Suraidi belongs to the group of slain Abu Sayyaf senior leader Albader Parad who then led the abduction."

Beltran said Suraidi was a man trusted by another Abu Sayyaf leader, Alhabsy Misaya, who was killed by troops in a clash last year in Parang town on Jolo island.

Last week, another Abu Sayyaf militant allegedly involved in the Sipadan hostage crisis was killed during a police operation in Tabuan Lasa town, in nearby Basilan province. Mobin Kulin, alias Mulawin, was being arrested by authorities but violently resisted, provincial police commander Nickson Muksan said.

Rebels cornered as Syria and Russia pummel Ghouta
[ARABNEWS] Eastern Ghouta’s six-year rebel rule was in its dying moments Friday as fighters evacuated one of the Syrian enclave’s three remaining pockets and a deal was reached for another.

A blistering regime assault since February 18 on the last opposition bastion outside Damascus has splintered remaining rebel territory into three shrinking pockets, each held by different factions.

Damascus and its ally Moscow have implemented a "leave or die" strategy with deadly air strikes on the enclave.

The law enforcement agency reiterated its call Thursday for help in finding a wanted man with that word prominently tattooed across his neck.
He's a criminal masterneck.
Shawn Frederick Peckerhead Weatherhead, described as being a hobo transient with ties to Eugene, Oregon and Reno, Nevada, is accused of babbling making violent threats against law enforcement agencies and should be considered a lunatic armed and dangerous, the FBI said.
And he's one helluva dancer.
He is also accused of allegedly contacting the FBI’s public access line and offices around 1,000 times since December 2015, and in at least three of the calls, making threats to kill people.

Indian court jails 11 men for life over ‘beef’ murder
[DAWN] An Indian court has sentenced 11 men to life in prison for killing a Moslem meat trader they suspected of transporting beef, in the first convictions over so-called "cow vigilantism".

The men, including a worker from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party, were found guilty of killing Alimuddin Ansari in the eastern state of Jharkhand in June 2017.

It was one of a series of attacks related to cows, which are considered sacred by Hindus.

The men were charged with murder and rioting, among other offences, under India’s penal code and a court in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district delivered its verdict on Wednesday.

"The fast-track court handed them the life sentence yesterday," Rajesh Kumar, a police brass hat in Ramgarh told this news agency by phone on Thursday.

"It is the first case in which a court has convicted and punished (perpetrators) for cow vigilantism." The police officer said a dozen men were locked away

over the murder but the court deferred its decision on the twelfth accused who is said to be a minor.

India has witnessed a wave of rising tensions over the killing and smuggling of cows in the Hindu-majority country, where their slaughter is a punishable offence in many states, including Jharkhand.

Jewish candidate for Muslim party breaks barriers in Tunisia
[ARABNEWS] Simon Slama and his family are the only Jews left in the Tunisian city of Monastir, once home to a thriving Jewish community. But instead of joining the exodus, he is running for office ‐ as a candidate of Tunisia's Islamist party.

Slama's candidacy with the Ennahdha party in May municipal elections is causing a sensation in this overwhelmingly Moslem country, and some controversy.

Critics see it as a calculated tactic by Ennahdha to regain power and to restore its reputation among Western allies like the United States. Others however see it as an example of Tunisia's long-standing traditions of tolerance.

A sewing machine salesman and repairman, 56-year-old Slama says he just wants to serve his country and the city where he was born, suffering from economic difficulties and social tensions.

"I chose Ennahdha because I found that because of the crisis the country is going through, everyone is turning toward this party," he told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named in his workshop.

"I see no difference between the Islamic and Judaic religions. We are all one family and we are all Tunisian citizens and we should go hand in hand to build the Tunisia of tomorrow," he said.

Slama returned to Monastir, on the Mediterranean coast about 170 kilometers (105 miles) south of the capital, Tunis, after studying in the French city of Strasbourg even as other Jewish families left because "we love the city and it has the spirit of my ancestors."

Tunisia is home to an estimated 1,500 Jews nationwide. Monastir "used to have 520 Jewish families. Today mine is the only one left," Slama said.

He wants to enter public service because he sees towns and cities "as essential in the evolution of society."

Tunisia is holding its first municipal elections since the 2011 revolution that overthrew a long-time autocrat and unleashed uprisings across the Arab world. Tunisia is the only country to emerge with a new and carefully constructed democracy, though the going has been rough.

Mnangagwa 'Shocked' As 112 Political Parties Register With Electoral Body ZEC
[All Africa] President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reportedly questioned the authenticity of the number of new political parties that have been formed in the past few months to contest this year's elections.

According to NewsDay, Mnangagwa said that he was shocked by reports that at least 112 political parties had registered with the Zim-bob-we Electoral Commission (ZEC) to contest the elections.

He said he would soon "order an investigation to find if the political parties were genuine".

New Zim-bob-we.com reported in October last year that there were at least 75 political parties that intended to contest the 2018 polls.

The report said at the time that the number of parties to contest the polls had jumped from 35 to 75 with many more expected to join the hotly contested race.

Zim-bob-we was set to go to the polls by the end of August, when Mnangagwa will face his first major test after taking over from long-time strongman Bob Muggsy Mugabe

Iran said to be building military facilities in Syria near to Russian positions
[IsraelTimes] Tehran's gambit is apparently based on assessment that Israel wouldn't dare strike for fear of tangling with Moscow

As it works intensively to deepen its military presence in Syria, Iran is building military facilities very close to Russian forces there, The Times of Israel has learned.

The construction of these facilities is being carried out secretively, and in some cases it has begun under the guise of residential building for civilians, and only later revealed as facilities for accommodating Shi’ite fighters deployed by Iran, well-placed sources told The Times of Israel, insisting on anonymity.

Denver Tries Uzbek Refugee on Charges of Wiring Money to ‘Islamic Jihad Union’
Justice delayed... One wonders why it took so long to go to trial.
[Breitbart] The trial for a refugee from Uzbekistan charged with providing material support to a terrorist organization by wiring money to the "Islamic Jihad Union" (IJU)
...on the American list of terror groups hosted by Pakistan for use in Afghanistan and elsewhere...
began in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday.

Prosecutors claim Bahktiyor Jumaev developed a closeness with fellow Uzbek Jamshid Muhtorov when the pair shared an apartment and that the two men discussed joining the IJU through phone calls and emails by using code words such as "wedding" to describe jihad.

"It’s a crime to send money or property to a terrorist organization," said prosecutor Gregory Holloway at a courthouse in Denver. "That’s why we’re here."

In 2011, prosecutors say Jumaev sent $300 to Jamshid Muhtorov and later admitted to FBI agents that he knew it was going towards the IJU.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
Jumaev’s attorney David Barry Savitz argued that the FBI illegally extracted a false confession from him by arresting him after a night’s work and interrogating him for three hours.

He went on to claim that his client merely intended to pay back Muhtorov for a $500 bond required to get Jumaev out of jail and was not related to the IJU.

"He considered himself trapped. He was scared. He was exhausted," Savitz said in his opening statement. "It was strictly intended to pay his debt and has nothing to do with the IJU."

The FBI’s tough questioning allegedly reminded Jumaev of an experience he had in 1999 where Uzbekistan National Security agents questioned him before severely beating him.

In January, Jumaev’s lawyers asked a judge not to allow the prosecution to show jurors a video showing the beheading of FBI agents found on Muhtorov’s computer.

"There is no evidence that Mr. Jumaev viewed any or most of the Muhtorov electronic evidence, particularly the most violent ones," the motion read.

Muhtorov was first locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
before boarding a flight in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
back in 2012 and is currently being tried separately. He has already served five years in jail without trial, and a decision last year to release him on bail was eventually reversed by a federal judge.

The men are two of a number Uzbek migrants colonists charged with terrorism-related offenses in the past year. Last August, 22-year-old Uzbek-American Abror Habibo pled guilty to charges of agreeing to fund terrorist activity, after buying another man a plane ticket to Syria in order to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Uzbek migrant Sayfullo Saipov also faces charges of terrorist after carrying out a truck attack that killed eight people and injured at least a dozen others in the city’s deadliest attack since 9/11.

The Ministry of Interior says at least 26 people have been killed and at least 18 others have been maimed after a jacket wallah detonated his explosives not far from Sakhi shrine in West of Kabul.

The incident took place at around noon time as scores of people had gathered in Sakhi shrine to mark the start of the new solar year.

Iraq
PKK withdraws from Shingal, says Iraq will secure Yezidi area
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region ‐ The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has announced the withdrawal of its fighters from Shingal, saying that the Yezidi population no longer faces a security threat and the Iraqi government is capable of providing security to the area.

The announcement follows on the heels of Ottoman Turkish threats to carry out a military operation against the PKK in Shingal and the group’s headquarters in the Qandil mountains of the Kurdistan Region.
The PKK deployed forces to Shingal in 2014 to help defend the Yezidis against the genocidal campaign of ISIS.

Since Yezidis have organized and can now run their own affairs and the Iraqi state has accepted the democratic wishes of the Yezidi people and is prepared to protect their security, "we took the decision to withdraw our guerrilla forces from Shingal," Kurdistan Communities Union, the PKK umbrella group, said in a statement on Friday.

The move has been welcomed by one of the largest Yezidi advocacy groups, Yazda.

"We express our gratitude to the Kurdish Force who volunteered to open a safe passage to rescue Yazidis in 2014 and held security for the past three years with great courage and dignity," stated Murad Ismael, executive director of Yazda, welcoming the withdrawal decision.

The next step is for the Iraq government to "recruit a sizable force from the locals, provide training and equipment, to deal with the challenging security situation in Sinjar," he said, using an alternative name for Shingal.

Baghdad, the international community, and aid agencies must all come together to support restoration of essential services, stability, and economic growth, he added, estimating that billions of dollars will be needed to revitalize the region.

Earlier this month, the Nineveh Provincial Council called on all gangs, including the PKK and the Hashd al-Shaabi, to withdraw from Shingal, stating that civilians had requested the administration return and resume services.

The PKK had refused repeated calls made by the Kurdistan Regional Government to withdraw from Shingal.

Yezidis have already begun fleeing Shingal, fearing an imminent Ottoman Turkish offensive, according to Vian Dakhil, the only Yezidi member of the Iraqi parliament. She called on the legislature to "commit" Baghdad to preventing such an operation.
Iraqi Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that they strongly reject any Ottoman Turkish attacks within its borders after he met with a delegation from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
Ankara has said they want to coordinate with Baghdad against the PKK in Iraq.

ISIS captured Shingal on August 3, 2014, committing genocide against the Yezidi population. The town was liberated in November 2015 by a coalition of Kurdish forces, including KRG Peshmerga and PKK fighters.

The Peshmerga withdrew from Shingal, a disputed area claimed by both Erbil and Baghdad, last October after military confrontations between the two sides following the Kurdish vote for independence.
