Reports indicate that during the sixth night of protests, Ottoman Turkish police used tear gas, plastic bullets, and water cannons to disperse the crowds. Images from major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir show intense confrontations between protesters and security forces.
Turkey’s Interior Minister confirmed that over 1,133 people have been arrested across the country, with the number increasing since the protests began on March 19. Among those detained are at least 10 journalists who were covering the events.
The level of violence has been described by eyewitnesses as shocking, with police allegedly using excessive force against peaceful demonstrators. The protests began after Ekrem Imamoglu’s arrest on March 19, charged with "financial corruption" and "ties to terrorist organizations." Opposition groups view the arrest as a political maneuver to eliminate Imamoglu, a major rival to President Erdogan in the upcoming elections.
What started as protests in Istanbul quickly spread to over 55 provinces out of 81 in Turkey. Slogans such as "Erdogan Resign" and "Justice for Imamoglu" echoed through the streets.
In response to the protests, the Ottoman Turkish government has implemented strict measures, including banning public gatherings in major cities and limiting access to social media platforms like X, YouTube, and Instagram, in an attempt to control the situation. The European Commission, along with countries like Germany and La Belle France, has criticized the actions, seeing them as a regression of democracy in Turkey. At least four people have been killed and several others injured in an Israeli shelling on Syria’s southwestern Daraa province on Tuesday, according to local reports.
The province’s official channel on Telegram reported that four people were killed and several others injured, including a woman, in an "Israeli shelling” that occurred during “an incursion" by Israeli forces into the town of Koya, west of Daraa.
The Israeli bombardment “was followed by tank shelling, which instigated panic among locals. A reconnaissance aircraft was also flying over the area," the report added.
Later in the day, the channel reported "a large wave of displacement from Koya, west of Daraa, amid the fear from the new incursion of the Israeli occupation army into the town."
Other Syrian media reports raised the number of fatalities to six.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday confirmed that they had launched airstrikes on two military bases in Syria’s central Homs province, to destroy "military capabilities" in the area.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Israel has scrambled to destroy Syria’s military stockpiles. It also sent troops across the border into a buffer zone east of the annexed Golan Heights, justifying the move as a precaution against political instability in Syria.
Throughout the Syrian civil war, Israel carried out hundreds of strikes, often claiming to target pro-Iran armed groups, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, that supported Assad at the time.
In a series of attacks, Israeli occupation forces carried out airstrikes in southern and central Syria, leaving at least seven people dead, according to Syrian state media.
The strikes began with an assault on the town of Koya, west of Daraa, where tank shells killed seven people and injured several others, Syrian sources reported.
Residents were forced to flee the area as the shelling continued. The Israeli occupation military later conducted raids targeting Palmyra Airport and the T-4 military base in the eastern countryside of Homs province. The enemy army claimed it had “bombed Syrian military targets” in these strikes.
[IsraelTimes] The Jerusalem District Court issues a first-of-its-kind order to freeze NIS 50 million ($13.7 million) worth of Palestinian Authority funds, the Ynet news site reports.
The move comes after Rabbi Leo Dee, whose wife and two daughters were murdered by Palestinian terrorists in April 2023, initiated a lawsuit against the PA’s Prisoners Club and Martyrs Fund over stipends known as the “pay for slay” policy, which provides monthly payments to the families of Palestinian assailants killed or imprisoned for attacking Israelis.
“PA resources should not support terrorism,” Rabbi Dee says. “I urge other terror victims in Israel to pursue similar action. Together, we can strip the enemy of their assets.”
The order aims to compensate the families of terror victims by withholding funds diverted to terror salaries, the plaintiff’s legal team says, according to Ynet.
In February, PA President Mahmoud Abbas signed a decree canceling legislation.
Dee’s legal action follows the Knesset’s approval last year of the Compensation of Victims of Terrorism Bill, which enabled victims of terrorism and their families to file damages-seeking lawsuits against parties offering financial support or compensation for committing acts of terrorism.

That's not to say the DoD is giving up on modernizing its civilian HR systems - the memo noted that the Pentagon still wants a new solution, with Hegseth directing officials to develop a fresh plan within 60 days to achieve the project's original goals.
While the headline item in the memo is the cancellation of DCHRMS, Hegseth ordered cuts to additional programs, contracts, and grants too.
The memo mentioned the cancellation of more than $360 million in grant programs "in areas of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and related social programs, climate change, social science, COVID-19 pandemic response" and the like, stating these efforts were not aligned with the DoD's current priorities.
We've reached out to the Defense Department to get a more complete list of the programs being terminated, but Hegseth did single out a couple in the video. In particular, he pointed to a $6 million grant for decarbonizing the emissions from US Navy ships and a $9 million university grant to develop "equitable AI and machine learning models."
"I need lethal machine learning models," Hegseth said. "Not equitable machine learning models."
The memo also directed the cancellation of $30 million in contracts with Gartner and McKinsey for analysis products and what Hegseth described as "unused licenses" from "external consulting services." The move echoes the ongoing scrutiny of federal consulting contracts, such as reviews of deals involving Accenture, IBM, and Deloitte.
In total, the memo states DoD is eliminating $580 million of government spending, though only $170 million will be able to be reallocated.
Hegseth credited Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency for its ability to root out the canceled programs, which, in addition to the cuts announced at the end of last week, now totals $800 million "in wasteful spending canceled over the first few weeks" of the Pentagon's DOGE review - but it won't be the last.
"Stay tuned," Hegseth said. "We have a lot more coming."

Los Angeles faces a $1 billion deficit due to spending vastly outpacing revenues — issues that predated the fire and which City Controller Kenneth Mejia has long said are making the city go “broke.”
Much of that funding is set to go toward existing city issues, such as ballooning liability payouts, with $38 million requested to cover revenue lost from the fires.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s order granting extensions for mandatory ethics disclosures of behested payments or conflicts of interest for government officials in Los Angeles County means it could be easier for corruption to go undetected amid an influx of cash.
The area’s state legislators sent a joint letter to Assembly Budget Chair Jesse Gabriel, D-Encino, outlining their funding request.

The legislators are looking for $15 million for emergency housing vouchers for displaced residents and $75.5 million for the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to “expedite CalOES processing of FEMA Public Assistance from previous emergencies, particularly COVID-19.”
The last request suggests CalOES has significant unspent funding due to its inability to process paperwork and that the $75.5 million may be required to be spent on processing labor to unlock already allocated, but paperwork-protected funds.
“These amounts reflect the City’s ongoing need for support in the areas of site cleanup, housing assistance, public safety, infrastructure restoration and economic support for impacted communities,” concluded the legislators. “These investments are essential not only for immediate relief but also for fostering the City’s long-term stability and preparedness.”
With the state’s revenue highly reliant on capital gains from the stock market, ongoing market volatility could threaten the state’s proposed $322 billion budget, which includes a $7 billion reserve withdrawal. This revenue volatility could spell trouble for the state’s ability to bail out Los Angeles, as broad budget cuts may be necessary.
"It's rare that states do that because they're usually like 'gimme, gimme, gimme,' but the reality is we all have a role in trying to change the fiscal trajectory of this country," DeSantis said. "The reality is what we're doing is unsustainable."

The Department of Defense on Tuesday announced that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered troops at the U.S. southern border to begin conducting patrols to dissuade people considering entering the country illegally.
The directive, which was given last week, is a change after the troops were largely static in Texas and Arizona. There are currently 9,000 active troops along the southern border, who have largely carried out logistics and back-end work, per Politico.
Defense officials said that the troops will still not be used for law enforcement activities, which is prohibited by federal law, but will report all illegal crossings to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
"Conducting patrols, either on foot or mounted, creates a more proactive and adaptable posture compared to static posts," Army Maj. Jennifer L. Staton, a Defense Department spokesperson, said in a statement. "The dynamic approach of patrolling allows service members to cover a larger area of the border, affording them dynamic observation across multiple angles and distances."
Service members assigned to the Joint Task Force Southern Border can now move either on foot or onboard Stryker armored vehicles.
The troops will be armed and are allowed to protect themselves if necessary, Army Maj. Jared Stefani said last week.

After John-John’s death, Hillary Clinton was elected to that same Senate seat in NY. Remember when she suddenly moved there? Lots of us still do.

Haney, 66, was found on the ground with a single gunshot wound, according to two news releases from the Amador County Sheriff’s Office.
[BBC] "It must be a policy of the United States," President Harry Truman announced, "to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressure."
It was the start of what became known as the Truman Doctrine. At its heart was the idea that helping to defend democracy abroad was vital to the United States' national interests.
There followed two major US initiatives: the Marshall Plan, a massive package of assistance to rebuild the shattered economies of Europe, and the creation of Nato in 1949, which was designed to defend democracies from a Soviet Union that had now extended its control over the eastern part of Europe.
It is easy to see this as the moment that leadership of the western world passed from Britain to the United States. More accurately it is the moment that revealed that it already had.
The United States, traditionally isolationist and safely sheltered by two vast oceans, had emerged from World War Two as the leader of the free world. As America projected its power around the globe, it spent the post-war decades remaking much of the world in its own image.
Yet the fundamental assumptions on which the United States has based its geostrategic ambitions now look set to change.
Donald Trump is the first US President since World War Two to challenge the role that his country set for itself many decades ago. And he is doing this in such a way that, to many, the old world order appears to be over - and the new world order has yet to take shape.
A CHALLENGE TO THE TRUMAN LEGACY
President Trump's critique of the post-1945 international order dates back decades. Nearly 40 years ago he took out full-page advertisements in three US newspapers to criticise the United States' commitment to the defence of the world's democracies.
"For decades, Japan and other nations have been taking advantage of the United States," he wrote in 1987. "Why are these nations not paying the United States for the human lives and billions of dollars we are losing to protect their interests?
"The world is laughing at America's politicians as we protect ships we don't own, carrying oil we don't need, destined for allies who won't help."
It's a position he has repeated since his second inauguration.
And the fury felt by some in his administration for what they perceive as European reliance on the United States was apparently shown in the leaked messages about air strikes on Houthis in Yemen that emerged this week.
Trump's own position appears to go beyond criticising those he says are taking advantage of the United State's generosity. At the start of his second presidency, he seemed to embrace Russian President Vladimir Putin, telling Russia that Ukraine would not be granted Nato membership and that it should not expect to get back the territory it has lost to Russia.
Many saw this as giving away two major bargaining chips before talks had even started. He apparently asked Russia for nothing in return.
The United States' foreign policy is now driven, in part at least, by the imperatives of its culture wars. The security of Europe has become entangled in the battle between two polarised and mutually antagonistic visions of what the United States stands for.
Some think the division is about more than Trump's particular views and that Europe can not just sit tight waiting for his term in office to end.
"The US is becoming divorced from European values," argues Ed Arnold, senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London.
I would argue, rather, that it is Europe and Britain that have abandoned European (and English) values, and not merely turned their backs on America but repeatedly given us the cut direct — with mockery appended.
"That's difficult [for Europeans] to swallow because it means that it's structural, cultural and potentially long-term. "
"I think the current trajectory of the US will outlast Trump, as a person. I think Trumpism will outlast his presidency."
NATO ARTICLE 5 'IS ON LIFE SUPPORT'
The Trump White House has said it will no longer be the primary guarantor of European security, and that European nations should be responsible for their own defence and pay for it.
"If [Nato countries] don't pay, I'm not going to defend them. No, I'm not going to defend them," the president said earlier this month.
For almost 80 years, the cornerstone of European security has been embedded in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which states that an attack on one member state of the alliance is an attack on all.
In Downing Street last month, just before his visit to the White House, the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer told me during an interview that he was satisfied that the United States remained the leading member of Nato and that Trump personally remained committed to Article 5.
Others are less sure.
Ben Wallace, who was defence secretary in the last Conservative government, told me earlier this month: "I think Article 5 is on life support.
"If Europe, including the United Kingdom, doesn't step up to the plate, invest a lot on defence and take it seriously, it's potentially the end of the Nato that we know and it'll be the end of Article 5.
Precisely.
"Right now, I wouldn't bet my house that Article 5 would be able to be triggered in the event of a Russian attack… I certainly wouldn't take for granted that the United States would ride to the rescue."
If you are not for yourselves, who should be?
According to polling by the French company Institut Elabe, nearly three quarters of French people now think that the United States is not an ally of France. A majority in Britain and a very large majority in Denmark, both historically pro-American countries, now have unfavourable views of the United States as well.
And yet Trump is by no means the first US president to tell Europe to get its defence spending in order. In 2016 Barack Obama urged Nato allies to increase theirs, saying: "Europe has sometimes been complacent about its own defence."
Nor was President Obama the first Democratic president to say so. The malfeasance and mockery — and promises that soon they’ll start to fulfill long-signed treaty commitments — are practically ancient.
HAS A 'FRAGMENTATION OF THE WEST' BEGUN?
All of this is great news for Putin. "The entire system of Euro-Atlantic security is crumbling before our eyes," he said last year. "Europe is being marginalised in global economic development, plunged into the chaos of challenges such as migration, and losing international agency and cultural identity."
In early March, three days after Volodymyr Zelensky's disastrous meeting with Trump and Vance in the White House, a Kremlin spokesman declared "the fragmentation of the West has begun".
'WE FORGOT THE LESSONS OF OUR HISTORY'
Of history, period. And mocked those who remember.
One of the great challenges Europe, in particular, faces from here is the question of how to arm itself adequately. Eighty years of reliance on the might of the United States has left many European democracies exposed.
Britain, for example, has cut military spending by nearly 70% since the height of the Cold War. (At the end of the Cold War, in the early 1990s, Europe allowed itself a peace dividend and began a decades-long process of reducing defence spending.)
"We had a big budget [during the Cold War] and we took a peace dividend," says Wallace. "Now, you could argue that that was warranted.
"The problem is we went from a peace dividend to corporate raiding. [Defence] just became the go-to department to take money from. And that is where we just forgot the lessons of our history."
The prime minister told parliament last month that Britain would increase defence spending from 2.3% of GDP to 2.5% by 2027. But is that enough?
"It isn't enough just to stand still," argues Wallace. "It wouldn't be enough to fix the things we need to make ourselves more deployable, and to plug the gaps if the Americans left."
Then there is the wider question of military recruitment. "The West is in freefall in its military recruiting, it's not just Britain," argues Wallace.
"At the moment, young people aren't joining the military. And that's a problem."
Y’all not only mock America, but you mock your own militaries. Why would your young people put their lives on the line for those who abuse them?
But Germany's new Chancellor-in-waiting, Friedrich Merz, has said Europe must make itself independent of the United States. And "Europeanising" NATO will require the build up of an indigenous European military-industrial complex capable of delivering capabilities that currently only the United States has.
Others share the view that Europe must become more self reliant militarily - but some are concerned that not all of Europe is on board with this.
"Where we are at the moment is that the East Europeans by and large, don't need to get the memo," says Ian Bond, deputy director, Centre for European Reform. "The further west you go, the more problematic it becomes until you get to Spain and Italy."

[Breitbart] Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) said a Government Accountability Institute (GAO) report found lax oversight by the SBA over hundreds of billions of dollars in coronavirus aid loans and grants doled out during the Biden-administration was either “jaw-dropping incompetence or willful negligence.” Ernst cannot decide which is worse.
The GAO, a nonpartisan watchdog, released a study on the SBA’s four-step antifraud process as the SBA distributed over $1 trillion in loans and grants to over ten million small businesses during the 2020-2022 coronavirus pandemic.
The four-step process consisted of screening, data analytics, human-led reviews, and referrals of likely fraudulent applications to the SBA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG).
Even though the process and various steps were introduced at different times for the COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (COVID-19 EIDL) and the Paycheck Protection Plan (PPP), the “SBA did not implement the process until more than half of the programs’ funding had been approved, thus limiting its impact in preventing fraud,” the GAO wrote.
“Specifically, for COVID-EIDL, over $210 billion of an eventual $385 billion (or about 55 percent) had already been disbursed before the full process was implemented. For the PPP, over $525 billion of an eventual $800 billion (or about 66 percent) had already been approved,” the watchdog group continued.
The GAO recommended that SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler “should collaborate with the SBA’s OIG to develop an effective plan, including the data elements to be provided and the process to be used, for referrals of potential or likely COVID-19 EIDL fraud cases.”
Caitlin O’Dea, a spokesperson for Administrator Loeffler, told Breitbart News that the SBA is working around the clock to hold those who committed fraud accountable. She said in a statement:
The SBA fully supports all efforts to crack down on fraud within its loan programs – in stark contrast to the last Administration, which failed to investigate or address more than $200B in estimated pandemic-era fraud. Under Administrator Loeffler, the SBA has already taken action to enhance fraud prevention and will continue working to hold pandemic-era fraudsters accountable in partnership with law enforcement.
The SBA will not be alone in these efforts.
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), the chair of the Senate Small Business Committee and the chair of the Senate Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, said that she remains committed to working with the SBA to find the coronavirus pandemic-era fraud, recouping the funds, and holding the criminals accountable.
“The Biden SBA was completely asleep at the wheel pursuing fraud in pandemic relief programs,” Ernst said in a statement to Breitbart News. The agency’s shortcomings prevented millions of investigations from occurring and allowed potential criminals to get away. This report exposes either jaw-dropping incompetence or willful negligence by the bureaucrats overseeing these programs.”
DOGE recently revealed that $312 million in coronavirus aid fraud went to children under 11 years-old; Ernst said that this fraud was just the “tip of the iceberg.”
Ernst’s office has catalogued many of the ways that coronavirus aid has been abused:
While SBA ran the relief programs on a “first come, first serve” basis, the money ran out quickly, and many qualifying businesses were turned away as felons, gang members, and drug traffickers raked in cash. Some swindlers uploaded pictures of Barbie dolls as photo identification on SBA loan applications that were approved.
One alleged fraudster took home $8 million while nearly 2,000 struggling restaurants in Iowa were left empty-handed. Ernst detailed this in her report titled Small Business COVID-19 Fraud: Three Years Later State of Play – where she outlined the Biden SBA’s effort to discount the full extent of fraud and cast doubt on the legitimate estimates made by expert investigators.
An 2023 Ernst and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) investigation found that there was $5.4 billion in total loans to fraudulent Social Security numbers.

The growing measles outbreak in the US has infected over 300 people, mostly in West Texas, which is more than the number of total cases in the country last year.
It comes at a time of falling vaccination rates and low trust in public health institutions.
[DM] Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has delivered a pointed warning to judges nationwide as local courts have slowed the rollout of Donald Trump's political agenda.
'We do have authority over the federal courts,' Johnson shared at a press conference Tuesday. 'We can eliminate an entire district court,' he noted.
'We do have power over funding over the courts and all these other things. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and Congress is going to act.'
His statement appeared to be a veiled reminder, if not threat, that Congress has their eyes on district judges that have issued injunctions and rulings against Trump's policies.
Though the Supreme Court is the highest judicial body in the country, district courts, which have been issuing nationwide rulings foiling White House executive decisions, are overseen by Congress.
The White House has been frustrated with injunctions impeding Trump's immigration, DOGE and other top priorities, prompting the 78-year-old to call for judges standing in his way to get removed.
The president has called for D.C. district court judge James Boasberg to be impeached for issuing an injunction on the administration's deportations of Venezuelans under the Alien Enemies Act.
Trump has also railed against district judge John James McConnell Jr. after he sided with 22 states and the District of Columbia to reinstate the flow of federal grants and loans that the White House froze as DOGE sifted through spending.
Republican lawmakers have already introduced articles of impeachment against McConnell and another Maryland based district judge, Theodore Chuang, who recently ruled that dismantling USAID is unconstitutional.
However, impeachment is unlikely as the maneuver would require Democratic support.
The 2/3rds to win requirement makes Senator Chuck Schumer very happy. Find another way.
Though the speaker later clarified that he was not planning on destroying any court, he did say he wanted to remind people of Congress's many authorities.
Article III of the Constitution states its up to Congress to 'ordain and establish' courts beneath the Supreme Court, meaning lawmakers fund and organize the lower court structure.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is currently looking into ways where Congress can reign in district judges.
Next week the committee is holding a hearing to examine Boasberg and other judge's recent rulings.
Jordan spoke with Trump about the upcoming hearing while the pair were watching the NCAA wrestling championships in Ohio over the weekend.
Eliminating lower courts and redistributing judges to other posts has been ordered by Congress before, but the practice is uncommon.
Judges playing nasty little games at the executive branch is unheard of, but here we are. Spank ‘em good, Mikey!
The issue may come to a head during the upcoming appropriations and government funding process, during which lawmakers may or may not push to defund or reorganize some lower courts.

This headline stinks to high heavens. How about

This is not a "nuke option" This is not impeachment. This is not a "chilling new threat". This may be "uncommon" but is no ways illegal. Abolition of the DC District Court actually happened in 1863 and it was no big deal at the time. Chief Justice Roberts recent BS pronouncement "For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision." was an inappropriate response to the spate of insane federal judicial decisions and the spinelessness of the Supremes. Congress and only Congress has the authority & responsibility to impeach federal judges. A Supreme Court justice has no standing on the issue of impeachment, except perhaps to preside over an impeachment trial. It will be interesting to read what crap Roberts will come up with in response to this CHILLING NEW THREAT /S.

Judges serve for LIFE.
If people are pushed hard enough, or get angry enough, they can do "unusual" things. People have been getting angrier and angrier for more than a decade now. That pressure requires an outlet. Civil war, rioting, open rebellion, are only a few of the choices that MIGHT be made. Someone needs to remind people to "stay in their own lane" or those choices WILL be made. That's human nature, as history records time and time again.

"Judges serve for LIFE" Not in the following case:
William Matthew S. Merrick (1818-1899) was appointed federal associate justice of the United States Circuit Court of the District of Columbia by President Franklin Pierce. Merrick served in that court until its abolition by act of Congress. On March 3, 1863, Congress abolished the federal Circuit Court, district court, and criminal court of the District of Columbia, and replaced them with the "Supreme Court of the District of Columbia". This resulted in the removal of judges from the bench (including Judge Merrick) who had ruled against the US in United States ex rel. Murphy v. Porter. Merrick returned to Maryland and resumed the practice of law. He lived another 36 years after losing his position on the abolished federal DC court. He was not impeached. He may have been a federal judge for life, but the court he served on had been legally abolished, so that his "service" for life had become moot.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Donald Trump said he wants to set up a 'compensation fund' for the people who were imprisoned for their roles in the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol, two months after he pardoned them.
On his first day back in the White House, Trump said he was pardoning about 1,500 defendants and issuing six commutations, calling them 'hostages.'
He also directed the attorney general to seek dismissal of about 450 pending criminal cases against Jan. 6 defendants.
The controversial decision fulfilled Trump's promise to release supporters who tried to help him overturn his election defeat four years ago.
Speaking Tuesday, Trump said that he's now looking to find a way to help them out after being suggested that he start up a 'compensation fund.'
'There's a lot of talk about that,' he said about the fund. 'A lot of the people that are in government now talk about it because a lot of the people in government really like that group of people.'
Trump reiterated that he felt that those imprisoned were 'patriots' and added that Joe Biden had treated them 'very unfairly.'
'A group of people went down there, peacefully and patriotically, remember that,' Trump added.
In reaction, liberals melted down over the plan as writer Ron Filipkowski among several others labeled the plan: 'Reparations'
Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz, however, added: 'We should vote on this. They should demand a vote on this.'
Newsmax host Greg Kelly also asked Trump about Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot by a police officer as she attempted to break through a door while in the Capitol building.
The Department of Justice is still fighting a lawsuit filed by her family and Kelly asked: 'Shouldn’t that be something that can just be settled at this point?'
Trump said that Babbitt 'was a really good person' and said that he would 'look into that.'
The president's controversial decision to pardon those involved in the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 was made with an expletive at the last minute.
As his team wrestled with the top issues to tackle on Inauguration Day, during their first hours in office, Trump weighed in, saying: 'F **k it: Release 'em all,' a source told Axios.
His decision to sign a blanket pardon for at least 1,500 people charged over the riot in Washington D.C. rankled many on his team and some officials in the Republican Party.
While Trump had talked about pardons for some of the rioters, the blanket dispensation - including those who used violence and attacked police officers - came as a surprise to many.
The former leaders of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, who were convicted of seditious conspiracy, were both released from prison hours after Trump signed the clemency order.
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes, of Granbury, Texas, was serving an 18-year prison sentence.
Enrique Tarrio, of Miami, the former Proud Boys leader, was serving a 22-year sentence.
Trump supporters, meanwhile, shrugged off his decision to pardon all those involved.
'He is who he is,' a Trump official told NBC News. 'Expectations are sometimes set as best as can be expected, and sometimes they change quickly.'
With a simple swipe of his pen, Trump released from prison his followers who were caught on camera breaking into the Capitol and fighting with police as they attempted to overthrow Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.

Some critics pounced on Trump's decision.
More than 150 police officers were injured on the day of insurrection and many blasted Trump for issuing the blanket get-out-jail-free card to his supporters.
But the president defended his decision.
He called the prosecutions 'ridiculous and excessive.'
Trump said he issued the pardons because in many cases, 'these people have already served a long period of time, and I made a decision to give a pardon.'
On the campaign trail, Trump repeatedly vowed to pardon those in the Capitol that day.
But he also indicated he'd look at cases individually.
'I'm going to do case-by-case, and if they were non-violent, I think they've been greatly punished,' he told Time magazine during the campaign.
'And the answer is, I will be doing that, yeah, I'm going to look if there's some that really were out of control.'
How many of those who were out of control will turn out to be Antifa and/or paid Biden-Harris administration Justice Department instigators? If so, there will be a trail to other things for which they can be prosecuted.

An illegal immigrant living in a Texas border city was hired to purchase thousands of rounds of ammunition for the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) in Mexico, the Justice Department said Tuesday.
Charbel Garza Macias pleaded guilty on Oct. 8, 2024, to illegally possessing ammunition after he was found with 4,800 rounds during a traffic stop.
He was sentenced in federal court to more than five years in prison. He is expected to be deported upon serving his time, authorities said.
"This defendant’s goal was to get this ammunition to Mexico and, if he had succeeded, would have contributed to the cartels’ ongoing campaign of brutality," said U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. "Those who work to arm, supply, fund or otherwise aid these organizations take notice; you are going to be found and prosecuted."
On July 16, 2024, Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Laredo Police Department and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, set up surveillance in a Laredo parking lot, which sits across from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Macias attempted to elude law enforcement as they followed him after departing the parking lot, federal prosecutors said.
During a traffic stop, authorities found 4,800 rounds of .223/5.56 caliber ammunition in the vehicle. At the time, Macias admitted that he was hired by the CDN to buy 20,000 rounds to be smuggled into Mexico.
Authorities noted that he didn't have a license to export ammunition or firearms

Two illegal immigrants from Mexico were arrested and charged Friday for allegedly molesting a minor on a Royal Caribbean cruise off the coast of Miami.
Jose Prudencio Diaz, 36, and Ricardo Daniel Mondragon Leal, 37, are charged with child molestation and exhibition on a child in connection with an incident that occurred on an Independence of the Seas cruise.
Additionally, Diaz is charged with having sex with another person without disclosing his HIV infection, and Leal is charged with sexual battery of a minor, according to arrest records.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted about the incident on X Tuesday.
"One of them has HIV. Both have ICE detainers on them. We WILL get these sickos out of our country," Noem wrote.
The defendants were detained without incident, police said. No further information was available at the time of publication.

In addition to CAIR, the nonprofit known as MAPS touts the U.S. Council of Muslim Organizations as one of its partners and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) and Helping Hand for Relief and Development as two of its sponsors. MAPS has worked with CAIR to host events that bring together MAPS members "across all levels and branches of government." And while it does not disclose its donors, it says it receives "sizable in-kind donations" from its partners, as well as funding from "federal agencies," nonprofits, and state commissions.
Perhaps it’s time to cut them off from federal agencies — turn DOGE loose on them to figure out donation flows, and maybe member connections if they have a little spare time and bandwidth in the midst of all else that they’ve got going.
MAPS’s affiliation with those groups—all of which have praised or been linked to terrorist organizations—could raise concerns about its efforts to place employees inside the federal bureaucracy. While it's unlikely MAPS will have success placing political appointees in the Trump administration, which has opposed affinity groups that support DEI initiatives in federal agencies and is staunchly at odds with MAPS's criticism of Israel, the group's top members include some career officials entrenched in the federal government.

Formed in 2021, MAPS is led by a board of current and former career federal employees, according to the group’s website and their LinkedIn profiles. Ahmad Maaty, the founding chairman of MAPS, is a senior economist at the Department of Justice. Other board members include Veterans Affairs official Hasan Shanawani, Office of Management and Budget examiner Farrah Pappa, United Nations mission adviser Mariya Ilyas, and White House policy analyst Ameer Abdulrahman, a former official for Democratic Senate candidate Morgan Harper.
While MAPS largely focuses on job-related issues that impact its members, it has weighed in on some political issues. The group criticized the Biden administration over its support for Israel in the war against Hamas, saying that it "disagrees with many of the policy positions taken by the current Administration." It also condemned the 2023 censure of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) over her statements calling for the eradication of Israel and denounced the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee over anti-Semitic remarks.
Since then, MAPS has hosted panels and networking events thanks to support from its terror-tied partners.
Earlier this month, for example, MAPS hosted an event that ICNA and Helping Hand cosponsored. One of its featured speakers, Nicole Fauster-Bradford, is the community advocacy director at CAIR. She spoke alongside Sarah Khasawinah, a senior policy adviser in the Senate.
Former ICNA president Mohsin Ansari has spread anti-Semitic tropes about the "liberal anti Muslim media headed by Jews," according to reports. He has also praised Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, a Bangladeshi cleric convicted of war crimes against Hindus, as a "very, very, very special person." Congress has investigated both ICNA and Helping Hand over their alleged links to Jamaat-e-Islami ...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... , a Pakistani terrorist group.
CAIR, for its part, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal Hamas financing case in 2008. The Biden White House distanced itself from the group after its executive director stated he was "happy" about the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023.
In addition to the March event, MAPS held an annual networking event in January that ICNA and Helping Hand cosponsored. It featured Ansari as a speaker.
In a statement sent to the Washington Free Beacon, MAPS said it "engages independent organizations with various audiences," like CAIR, ICNA, and Helping Hand, "to increase its civic engagement and reach those with a desire to serve the public." It did not answer questions on CAIR's Oct. 7 rhetoric and the groups' ties to terror organizations.

The United States has imposed sanctions on three Iranian intelligence officers for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of former FBI Special Agent Robert Levinson, the US Treasury and State departments said in blurbs on Tuesday.

As a result of the sanctions, any property of the men under US jurisdiction must be blocked, and Americans are generally barred from dealing with them. Foreign persons also risk blacklisting for dealing with them.
"Iran’s treatment of Mr. Levinson remains a blight on Iran’s already grim record of human rights ...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless... abuse," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. "The Department of the Treasury will continue to work with US government partners to identify those responsible and shine a light on their abhorrent behavior."
Levinson, who was working as a private investigator, disappeared in March 2007 after traveling to an island controlled by Iran for a meeting seeking information on alleged corruption, but the Washington Post reported in 2013 that Levinson, who had retired from the FBI, was working for the CIA and had gone on a rogue mission aimed at gathering intelligence on Iran.
The three sanctioned individuals all played a role in Levinson’s abduction, detention, and probable death, as well as efforts to cover up Iran’s responsibility, the Treasury Department said.

Syrian officials reported that at least five people were killed in the incident that took place near the village of Kuwaya in the Daraa Governorate in south Syria, not far from the Israeli border. There were also reports of ground forces operating in the area.
Residents of the village had fled the Israeli fire, authorities added.
Israeli troops have been stationed inside the buffer zone along the Israel-Syria border since the fall of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad Lord of the Baath... ’s regime in December 2024.
The IDF has described its presence in the buffer zone, which was manned by UN peacekeepers until the Assad regime’s ouster, as a temporary and defensive measure, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that troops would remain there for "an unlimited period of time" to maintain Israel’s security. Defense Minister Israel Katz has said that troops will remain deployed to nine army posts in the area "indefinitely."
Netanyahu has also said that Israel demands the "full demilitarization of southern Syria from troops of the new Syrian regime in the Quneitra, Daraa and Suweyda provinces."
On Tuesday, the military announced that over the past few weeks, the Paratroopers Brigade and the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit carried out several raids in southern Syria, following intelligence on weapons storage sites. The troops seized and destroyed numerous weapons in the raids, including bombs, ammunition, mortars, and other military equipment, the IDF added.
Earlier on Tuesday, the IDF announced that it had struck targets at two airbases in Syria, the latest strikes targeting military sites linked to the former Assad regime. The strikes were carried out at the Palmyra and T-4 airbases in the province of Homs, which has repeatedly been hit because of its role in regional weapon smuggling. In a statement, the military said that it targeted "remaining military capabilities" at the airfields, after hitting them both with an initial round of bombings days earlier.
"The IDF will continue to act to remove any threat to Israeli citizens," it added.
The initial strikes, carried out overnight on March 21, were described by military sources as "extensive," and were said to have taken out capabilities that would ensure the preservation of Israel’s aerial superiority in the region.

"Military actions must be proportionate, and Israeli strikes into Syria and Lebanon risk further escalation," Kallas said at a joint news conference with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
"We feel that these things are unnecessary because Syria is right now not attacking Israel, and that feeds more radicalization that is also against Israel," Kallas told journalists.
While Assad’s fall brought an end to the country’s more than decade-long civil war, a renewed wave of sectarian violence sparked fears that the new government would not be able to effectively keep the peace in Syria.
Israeli leaders have consistently stated that they do not trust Sharaa.

Lebanon’s health ministry said the dronezap on a vehicle late Monday in the village of Qaaqaait al-Jisr, near Nabatieh, killed one person.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, the strike targeted and killed Hassan Kamal Halawi, the chief of Hezbollah’s anti-tank missile unit in southern Lebanon.
"During the war, Halawi was responsible for numerous terror attacks against Israel. He facilitated the movement of operatives and the supply of weapons into southern Lebanon. In recent months, Halawi continued to engage in terrorist activity against Israeli civilians," the army said in a statement.
The IDF added that he was targeted because he posed a threat to the country.
Footage published by Lebanese media purported to show the aftermath of the strike.
On Sunday, the IDF said it killed another Hezbollah operative in a dronezap in southern Lebanon.
Saturday saw the most intense escalation since a November ceasefire halted the war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, after six rockets were fired from Lebanon at the northern Israeli community of Metula.
Hezbollah denied any involvement in the Saturday rocket attack on Metula and called Israel’s accusations "pretexts for its continued attacks on Lebanon."
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it foiled an attempt to smuggle 50 kilograms of drugs into Israel from Egypt earlier today, using a drone.
The drone had been identified crossing the border from Egypt into Israel by troops of the Home Front Command’s 991st Reserve Battalion, before it was downed.
The drugs and the drone were handed over to police for further investigation.
In recent months there have been frequent attempts to bring weapons and drugs over the Egypt border using drones. There have also been attempts to smuggle similar contraband from Israel into Gaza using drones.

Given that she was arrested, it seems safe to assume that the police finally winkled her out of her hiding place, wherever that was.
''I don't think there is any evidence in the record that she would be a danger to the community,'' Buchwald said in court before issuing the ruling.
''The notion of putting this 21-year-old, who nothing in the record suggests is a danger — into ICE detention — is not a particularly appealing result,'' the judge said.
The feds have not claimed, for instance, that Chung had illegally possessed weapons or communicated with a foreign terrorist group, Buchwald noted.

[IsraelTime] The United Nations is cutting its international staff in Gaza by around a third, a UN spokesperson said on Tuesday, citing safety concerns.
“We are trying to reduce the number of international staff by about one-third and this is really because the Secretary-General (Antonio Guterres) doesn’t have the power of guaranteeing the safety of UN staff,” UN spokesperson Alessandra Vellucci tells a Geneva press briefing, saying that this meant around 30 of 100 international staff.

A statement posted to the PA’s official Wafa news site said that in such an event, Fattouh would serve as interim president for no more than 90 days, during which presidential elections would be held. But if it were not possible to hold elections, the Paleostinian Central Council could grant a one-time extension to the interim president’s term.
Another reform announced by Abbas in February — which was aggressively pushed by Western countries — saw the cancellation of legislation that conditioned welfare payments to Paleostinian security prisoners on the length of their sentence in Israeli jails.

In one of the lawsuits on Tuesday, the American Association of University Professors and the American Federation accused the Trump administration of trying to force the university’s hand by canceling $400 million in federal funding and threatening to withhold billions more in the future.
The university is not entitled to billions of dollars of government money, after all.
The plaintiffs said the lawsuit "challenges the Trump administration’s unlawful and unprecedented effort to overpower a university’s academic autonomy and control the thought, association, scholarship, and expression of its faculty and students."
"The Trump administration is coercing Columbia University to do its bidding and regulate speech and expression on campus by holding hostage billions of dollars in congressionally authorized federal funding — funding that is responsible for positioning the American university system as a global leader in scientific, medical, and technological research and is crucial to ensuring it remains so," they said.
The Trump administration hasn’t got as far as forcing anything. This is just to get the university’s attention to get them to the table. Forcing will put several billion dollars of federal funding at risk. The university has something like a $15 billion endowment, so in theory they could walk away, getting by on their savings — and no doubt there are plenty of Progressive donors who would do their bit to make up the shortfall — but apparently the university is not keen to give up what has up to now been easy money.

The Trump administration has accused the university of having antisemitic harassment on campus and demanded that it place one specific department — Middle East, South Asia, and Africa Studies — into academic receivership, an unusual move where university administrators take control away from the faculty at a department that has been deemed dysfunctional. The Trump administration declined to specify evidence of its claims.

The actions against Columbia have created a "pervasive climate of fear and self-censorship" not only at its New York City campus but at universities around the country fearing retaliation from the administration, the lawsuit said, adding the actions chilled speech, threatened academic freedom and that students from all backgrounds should be protected from harassment.

The lawsuit said the arrest of Khalil and Trump’s threat of further arrests had "created a climate of repression and fear on university campuses."
Khalil, who was born and raised in a refugee camp in Syria, entered the US on a student visa in 2022 and became a legal permanent resident in 2024. A federal judge last week ruled that he must remain in the United States for now.
Khalil was a leading member of Columbia University Apartheid Divest, which has endorsed "armed resistance" against Israel and called "for the total eradication of Western civilization."

The Trump administration claimed after Khalil’s arrest that he had withheld his previous work for UNRWA, the United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... agency for Paleostinian refugees, in his visa application, saying that was grounds for his deportation.
Lying or incomplete information on the application is longstanding grounds for deportation.
UNRWA has said Khalil was briefly an unpaid intern. Israel has accused the aid agency of serving as a front for Hamas, and at least one Israeli hostage has reported having been held in an UNWRA facility in Gaza.
Both Columbia faculty lawsuits accuse the Trump administration of trampling on the right to free speech under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
Constitutional free speech does not encompass activism for listed terror groups or overthrowing the government of the United States or organizing riots.
For its part, the US Justice Department said it "makes no apologies for its efforts to defend President Trump’s agenda in court and protect Jewish Americans from vile antisemitism." Columbia, which is not a party in either lawsuit, did not respond to a request for comment.
ANTI-ISRAEL PROTESTERS ACCUSED OF ACTING AS ’PR FIRM’ FOR HAMAS
In a lawsuit filed Monday, people behind the anti-Israel demonstrations at Columbia were accused of having coordinated their efforts with Hamas to further its attacks since 2023.
Besides Khalil, the defendants include Within Our Lifetime-United for Paleostine, Columbia Students for Justice in Paleostine ("CSJP"), Columbia-Barnard Jewish Voice for Peace, and some of the groups’ leaders.
The civil lawsuit accuses the defendants of violating US antiterrorism legislation and the law of nations and seeks unspecified compensatory, punitive and triple damages.
"It would be illegal for Hamas to directly retain a public relations firm in the United States or hire enforcers to impose their will on American cities." the complaint said. "Yet those are precisely the services that the [defendant groups] knowingly provide to Hamas."
The plaintiffs also accused some group defendants "on information and belief" of having prior knowledge of the Hamas attack. They cited the timing and substance of statements made shortly before, during and after the atrocities occurred, including a CSJP post on Instagram three minutes before the attack that said "We are back!!"
The defendants or lawyers who have represented them in Columbia-related litigation did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Mark Goldfeder, a lawyer at the National Jewish Advocacy Center representing the plaintiffs, said in an email that the defendants’ coordinating activities with Hamas were known because they have said so repeatedly.
"There is nothing wrong with being pro-Paleostinian, and pro-Hamas speech is still protected speech in most contexts," he said. "The issue here is the material support of and coordination with a designated foreign terrorist organization."

The Group inflicted fire damage on two mechanised brigades, one assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and two territorial defence brigades near Malaya Shapkovka, Kamenka, Krasnoye Pervoye, Grigorovka, Tishchenkovka, Kondrashovka (Kharkov region), Torskoye, Novoye, and Yampol (Donetsk People's Republic).
The AFU lost more than 250 troops, one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles. Four artillery guns, including two Western-made ones, were neutralised.
The Yug Group of Forces took more advantageous lines and positions. They inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of two mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one territorial defence brigade, and two national guard brigades near Tikhonovka, Katerinovka, Dyleyevka, Novomarkovo, Chasov Yar, Verkhnekamenskoye, Kurdyumovka, and Tarasovka (Donetsk People's Republic).
The enemy sustained losses of up to 200 troops, one tank, three armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M-113 armoured personnel carrier, one U.S.-made HMMWV armoured vehicle, one Croatian-made Heron MLRS launcher, and three pickup trucks. Two field artillery guns and three ammunition depots were neutralised.
Elements of the Tsentr Group of Forces improved the tactical situation. They hit two mechanised brigades, two assault brigades, one UAV brigade, one assault regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, one naval infantry brigade, and one national guard brigade near Alekseyevka, Yelizavetovka, Kotlino, Dimitrov, Zverevo, Krasnoarmeysk, Novotoretskoye, and Novosergeyevka (Donetsk People's Republic).
Ukrainian armed formations lost up to 430 troops, five armoured fighting vehicles, including one U.S.-made M-113 armoured personnel carrier, 12 motor vehicles, and one Polish-made 155mm Krab self-propelled artillery system.
The Vostok Group of Forces continued advancing into the depth of enemy defences. They inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of one mountain assault brigade, one airmobile brigade of the AFU, and one naval infantry brigade near Veseloye, Razliv, Volnoye Pole, and Novopol (Donetsk People's Republic).

With intensive and resolute operations, elements of the Dnepr Group of Forces liberated Malye Shcherbaki (Zaporozhye region).
The Group engaged units of one mechanised brigade, two coastal defence brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a territorial defence brigade near Pridneprovskoye, Sadovoye, Berislav, Antonovka (Kherson region), Novodanilovka, and Novopokrovka (Zaporozhye region).
Over 70 troops, two U.S.-made M-113 armoured personnel carriers, two motor vehicles, and three artillery guns of the enemy have been neutralised.
