Jeremy Levin, acting head of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), reportedly instructed employees in an internal letter to revive these programs. The aid includes U.S. support for the World Food Program in Lebanon, Syria, Somalia, Jordan, Iraq, and Ecuador.
While the World Food Program had previously warned about the consequences of the U.S. suspension of aid to Afghanistan, the sources did not specify whether assistance to Afghanistan would resume.

This decision was announced on Sunday, April 6, and was communicated to students via email. The program was ended “due to a review and misalignment with current agency priorities.”
The scholarship program, initially launched in 2018 with a $50 million investment from USAID, was managed by the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF). It covered tuition and living expenses for Afghan women studying in Afghanistan, Qatar, and Oman in fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The condition of the woman is unclear. There are no other injuries as a result of the incident.

The Lod District Court on Tuesday sentenced two perpetrators of a 2024 car-ramming and stabbing attack, in which they killed an elderly woman, to life imprisonment plus 60 additional years.
Cousins Ahmed Zidat, 25, and Mahmoud Zidat, 44, were convicted of repeatedly ramming vehicles into pedestrians across several locations throughout Ra’anana on January 15, 2024. The terror attack killed 79-year-old Edna Bluestein and injured at least 17 others.
The perpetrators, from the southern West Bank town of Bani Naim, had been working in the Ra’anana industrial zone without proper documentation. The two pleaded guilty and were convicted in July 2024 on terror charges including aggravated murder, attempted murder, causing injury and other offenses.
According to an indictment filed by prosecutors in February 2024, both identified with the Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... terror group and had planned other terror attacks in the past. They carried out their rampage using three cars in separate parts of the city.
Ahmed rammed into one pedestrian at high speed, exited his wrecked vehicle, then hijacked another car to run into two other pedestrians. He again got out of the car and began stabbing one of his victims.
Mahmoud, meanwhile, spotted a crowded bus stop and rammed his car into those waiting there, running over 18 people, including Bluestein.

Four killed in US attacks on Yemen's Hodeidah
[HodhodYemenNews] At least four civilians were killed, and 16 others have been injured, in a preliminary toll of the US aggression targeting the city of Amin Muqbil in the Al-Hawak District, Hodeidah Province, Western Yemen, the Health Ministry reported on Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry condemned the continued targeting of civilians and civilian objects by the US enemy, calling it “a full-fledged war crime that violates all international norms and laws.”
It added that that Civil Defense teams are continuing their search for victims trapped under the rubble.
US strikes pound Yemen overnight
[IsraelTimes] Several US airstrikes targeted Houthi positions throughout rebel-held Yemen on Monday night.
Unnamed sources told the Al Hadath network two airstrikes hit Houthi weapons stores on Kamaran Island in Hodeidah as well as an ammunition depot in the al-Juba area of the Marib governate.
Five other strikes targeted the Al Jumaimah area in the Sanaa governorate, Al Hadath reported.
Al Hadath also said that the Houthis carried out a campaign of arrests following the strikes. Among those said to be detained was the deputy head of the Houthi intelligence service over suspicions that he leaked coordinates for targets.
An intense campaign of airstrikes in Yemen under US President Donald Trump targeting the rebels since March has killed at least 70 people, according to casualty figures released by the Houthis.
Suspected US airstrikes pounded the area around Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeida on Tuesday night, killing at least two people and wounding 13 others, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels say.
The strikes hit around Hodeida’s al-Hawak District, the rebels say. The area is home to the city’s airport, which the rebels have used in the past to target shipping in the Red Sea.

The agency said it was in contact with the Trump administration "to urge for continued support" for lifesaving programs and thanked the United States and other donors for past contributions.

PROGRAMS TARGETED BY TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

About 60 letters canceling contracts were sent over the past week. An official with the United Nations in the Middle East said all U.S. aid to WFP food programs across Yemen, another war-divided country that is facing one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters, has been stopped, apparently including food that already had arrived in distribution centers.
WFP also received termination letters for U.S.-funded programs in Leb ...home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade.... and Jordan, where Syrian refugees would be hit hardest, the U.N. official said.
Some of the last remaining U.S. funding for key programs in Somalia, Afghanistan and the southern African nation of Zim-bob-we also was affected, including for those providing food, water, medical care and shelter for people displaced by war, one of the U.S. officials said.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.
Current and former USAID experts and partners said some $560 million in humanitarian aid was cut to Afghanistan, including for emergency food assistance, the treatment of severely malnourished babies, lifesaving medical care, safe drinking water, and emergency mental health treatment for survivors of sexual and physical violence.
Another of the notices, sent Friday, abruptly pulled U.S. funding for a program with strong support in Congress that had sent young Afghan women overseas for schooling because of Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... prohibitions on women's education, said an administrator for that project, which is run by Texas A&M University.
The young women would now face return to Afghanistan, where their lives would be in danger, according to that administrator, who was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
LARGER IMPACT OF CUTTING AID
The abrupt end of WFP programs threatens some of the world's most vulnerable populations, many of which depend on such food aid, according to humanitarian groups. The U.S. and other donors long have seen efforts to ease humanitarian crises as being in their strategic interest by stemming mass migration, conflicts and extremism, which struggles for resources can bring.
WFP chief Cindy McCain said in a posting on social media that the cuts "undermine global stability."
Rubio had notified Congress and courts last month that USAID contract cuts were over, with about 1,000 programs spared worldwide and more than 5,000 others eliminated. That added to the shock of the new cuts.
The Trump administration has accused USAID of wastefulness and advancing liberal causes.
Trump's freeze on all foreign assistance through USAID and the State Department led to a brief shutdown of services at the al-Hol camp, where tens of thousands of alleged Islamic State fighters and their families are kept under guard.
That shutdown raised fears of an uprising or breakout at the camp. U.S. officials quickly intervened to restore services.
The State Department document obtained by the AP identifies two newly terminated contracts, run by Save the Children and the U.N. Population Fund, which provided mental health services and other care to women and kiddies at al-Hol. It was not immediately clear if any other services were affected at the camp.
The U.S. had been the major funder of the WFP, providing $4.5 billion of the $9.8 billion in donations to the food agency last year.

Officials say the men purchased the material through ads on TikTok and that the ringleader is believed to be in Turkey.
One undercover agent working the case was able to purchase 6.7 terabytes of child pornography, comprising roughly 1.2 million videos and pictures, according to Special Agent in Charge Mark Brutnell.
"It’s disgusting that child sexual abuse material is advertised in plain view on apps such as TikTok, and we will continue fighting to get these major social media companies to do their part in shutting down the spread of this material. I’m grateful for our FDLE partners who uncovered this deviant network and highlighted their sickening actions. Our Statewide Prosecutors will ensure these disgusting criminals face justice," said Attorney General James Uthmeier.
The alleged ringleader is in Turkey, according to Florida’s attorney general. A warrant is out for his arrest, and investigators are working to extradite him to Florida.
"The arrests of these predators are just the beginning. Every image of child abuse leaves a lasting scar on an innocent life, and we will aggressively prosecute these heinous crimes," said Uthmeier.
The investigation started in July 2024 after an FDLE agent doing a proactive criminal review of a website known to advertise child sexual abuse discovered someone selling content.
Upon identifying the user, the detectives initiated a full investigation and uncovered multiple listings from the same seller. They were able to have the website down within a week.
The suspect, Krunalkumar Modi, 39, of New Jersey, was arrested on July 31, and charged with 100 counts of promotion of sexual performance by a child, five counts of out-of-state transmission of child sexual abuse material, five counts of distribution of obscene material, and two counts of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
The agents were also able to uncover that Modi was part of a larger distribution ring lead by "John De Vil."
"John De Vil" has been officially identified as Mehmet Bozuyuk, who currently resides in Adana, Turkey. Bozuyuk has several stolen identities and has used them in order to sell and distribute CSAM globally through money mules like Modi, and Ximena Maqueda, an Oregon resident, according to a statement released by FDLE.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of seven CSAM ring "customers" residing in Florida. The "customers" are currently charged with conspiracy to commit RICO, purchase of child sexual abuse material and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Arrest warrants are also active for:
Ximena Del Real Maqueda of Portland, Oregon, for conspiracy to commit money laundering.

I know I know, I do so much for the benefit of Rantburg and this required a difficult financial burden, which paled against the common barrage of DEI website programming staff with nose and lips pierced and horribly mangled with lots of tacky baubles, where zee pass off their product to an equally DEI testing staff, and I went ahead and purchased a 1 year subscription for $1, probably about right, but that requires you to provide proof that your liquid with a credit card and all sorts of bugs in entering your credit card into the system. I find I have problems with X and a number of news sites when that’s working, so I have to go to the URL bar, click on the drop-down icon at the left end of it, and click on Turn Off Content Blockers. If it’s not that, I have no idea. But with all the serious computer mavens who hang out here, I’m sure someone will have a useful answer for you.

Thanks TW. I don't know anything about content blockers, but I'll be on the phone tomorrow with one of my best friends, the Lebanese Christian who does all of the hardware and systems work in my place and is the proprietor of a computer repair/towers/laptops, etc. store in Littleton. He's probably 55 and his eyes don't appear to be in the least bit crazy. I would guess that he's been in this country for about 20 years and when I met him about 12 years ago his English was awful but it has much approved. I type this using one of those curved 32" LG monitors at a distance of 2' and the VISIO sound bar is mounted 5' behind me. Of course move back a bit for the Ingraham Angle and the whole thing explodes when you turn off the lights and move the Bushmills and soda out on the balcony where I occasionally have over 100 a smoke with the Bose headphones for movies.

For reference, in my 22 years of commissioned service (starting in the late ’80s), it was virtually impossible to know the political leanings of ANY officer unless they were an extremely close friend. Many officers purposely had no political preferences of any kind. In fact, I knew many officers who refused to even vote because it suggested that they were somehow partisan. This was an ethos that said "We serve under the Constitutional will of the American People; whomever the People select as the Commander-in-Chief is someone to whom I have a duty of absolute loyalty."
I had the exact same experience in my 31 years of service (27 years commissioned service and four years at the U.S. Naval Academy).

This was a sacred bond, and still is supposed to be.
Apparently it no longer is.
This phenomenon suggests a complete breakdown in good order and discipline across our entire military, and throughout world history has been a precursor to rule by military junta. I am not exaggerating this threat. We cannot allow our military’s officer corps to continue down this path unchecked.
There needs to be a complete reversal of this trend before it’s too late. Pete Hegseth and his team need to get on top of this. But here’s the hard part—it’s not enough to just get these officers to shut their mouths. They need to also re-train their brains and their hearts to deeply understand and accept that they have a duty of loyalty both to the Constitution and the lawful orders of the chain of command the People elect under that Constitution, and that their current thoughts and actions are wholly incompatible with that duty.
I served under Bill Clinton. I know it’s possible because I’ve done it. If these officers cannot do this, they need to be separated from service. It’s better to have vacant officer positions than have them filled with people who are disloyal to their Constitutional duties.
Military officers have a solemn duty to the nation. Too many are ignoring this duty. This must change before it is too late.

Michael Tanzi, 48, was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. at Florida State Prison for the April 2000 kidnapping and strangling death of Janet Acosta, a production worker at The Miami Herald.
Tanzi, in his final statement, apologized to Acosta's family and recited a Bible verse, according to a report from The Associated Press. He was dead three minutes later.
Tanzi allegedly beat, robbed and strangled Acosta before leaving her body in the Florida Keys.
Tanzi was sentenced to death after being convicted of murder in the first degree, carjacking, kidnapping and armed robbery.
Appeals filed by his attorneys were denied, with the most recent being an appeal citing Tanzi's "morbidly obese" weight and sciatica, which they alleged could cause "unconstitutional levels of pain," according to the AP.
The court ruled the appeal was not timely because Tanzi's health concerns were known since 2009, noting similar appeals based on weight have been rejected.
Corrections Department spokesman Ted Veerman told the AP Tanzi woke up at 4:45 a.m. and met with a spiritual adviser. He was later served his last meal.

In 2025, it is planned to significantly increase the supply of ground robotic systems to the Russian Armed Forces. "In 2024, industry and volunteer organizations delivered several hundred ground robotic systems to the Russian Armed Forces. This year, we plan to deliver an order of magnitude more," he noted.

[ShabelleMedia] The five Kenyan chiefs who were kidnapped by suspected al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... militia in February while going for a security meeting to plan for President William Ruto’s tour have been released.
The five were released on Sunday evening, after being dropped by unknown men following what local authorities reported were successful negotiations between the elders from the region and the turbans.
The five had been held captive in neighbouring Somalia for the last two months following their abduction while on their way from Wargadud to Elwak Town.
The chiefs were from the administrative units of Wargadud East, Qurahmudow, and Chachabole and were aboard a vehicle at the time of the incident.
At the time of the incident, the vehicle ferrying the chiefs to Elwak was hijacked between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki in Mandera South.
The government has been in active efforts through the local elders to rescue the administrative officers whose abduction became a national security concern following the circumstances under which they were captured.
Following the incident, President Ruto, while on tour in Mandera, issued stern directives to national security agencies to ensure that the five were found.
Speaking at Moi Stadium in Mandera County on February 4 during his work tour, the president also fired a salvo at the al-Shabaab snuffies after they bypassed security checkpoints and gained entrance into the country.
"We will deal with the terrorists, and that is why I have come with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, to say that no matter what happens, that issue must be promptly addressed," Ruto asserted in his address.
According to the head of state, the snuffies chose to abduct the administrators because of the effort that Kenyan multiagency security teams had shown against them in the region.
Kenya is currently on alert following the renewed efforts of the al-Shabaab Death Eaters in neighbouring Somalia and along the borders of Kenya.

The saber-tooth tiger should be brought back. I propose the US reintroduce this creature into Colorado, since their elected reps have such an affinity of wolves.
And lets not limit the joy of seeing these magnificent creatures to just farmers and ranchers. Let's make sure they're released on the outskirts of Denver, Ft. Collins, and Boulder. Every citizen of that state should have the opportunity to encounter one of these magnificent animals.

He was saying that they put cutouts of pikachus and thylacines in the australian outback, and the thylacine cutouts spooked the animals. They suggest that fear of Tasmanian Tiger is passed down via DNA. I think it also suggests they could still be alive to foster that fear...
