Now, tech makes it easy to make incredibly tasteless stuff. It's all about how you disseminate it.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israel's dilemma over Iran is a dispute between Oct. 6 and Oct. 7
It is a simple question — Is Israel returning to its October 6 mindset, or has it embraced a post-October 7 mentality?

This pressing question looms over the government as it grapples with the aftermath of the audacious Iranian assault early Sunday morning when the skies lit up with hundreds of suicide drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles hurtling towards Israel.

The Israel of October 6 would have contained such an attack. Why retaliate after almost all the missiles and drones were intercepted, and except for one girl who was tragically wounded by shrapnel, there were no injuries, deaths or damage to infrastructure?

This policy of containment would have been in line with general Israeli policy at the time. Yes, the IDF occasionally launched an operation over the years to weaken Hamas in Gaza, but it never really went after the root of the problem.

That was all true up until 6:29 am on October 7, when Hamas launched its attack, forcing Israel into a war that shattered the illusion that containment can shield a nation from terror.

People can pretend that fences and missile defense systems provide protection, but in reality the threat only grows until, one day, terrorists infiltrate homes to murder, rape and abduct people.

While Israel’s leaders know this, there are some who are trying to avoid the need to confront Iran, concerned that a retaliatory attack could lead to a wider regional war. Led by the Biden administration, as well as some members of the Israeli government and the IDF, they are trying to portray the successful interception of the drones and missiles as a major victory. Israel, they say, won this round by denying Iran a victory image of a drone hitting an army base or a missile striking Dimona.

To some extent, this is true. Israel’s missile defense architecture - Iron Dome (short range), David’s Sling (medium range) and Arrow 2 & 3 (long range) - performed remarkably Sunday in what can only be described as a testament to Israeli ingenuity as well as the alliance with the US which jointly develops these systems and provides critical funding for them.

The problem is that no matter how good a defense, it is not enough to achieve victory. The reason is because what these systems taught us on October 7 is that while they might protect people from Gaza rockets, they do not really provide security.

Israel cannot let Iran learn a lesson that an attack of hundreds of drones and missiles is tolerated just because they were shot down. Every missile and drone launched at Israel needs to be looked at as if it landed, struck targets, killed people and damaged infrastructure. If not, and nothing is done, it will just be a matter of time until the next attack comes from Iran, and then the next one and the one after that.

People are using gold as an ATM they never had
[Twitter]
At a Brooklyn Pawnshop, Customers Are Flooding In to Sell Gold

"People are using gold as an ATM they never had," said Gene Furman, owner of King Gold & Pawn and Empire Gold Buyers. At Furman’s 5th Avenue store, the number of people coming in selling and pawning gold jewelry is more than three times above normal levels since prices started to rally in late February.

Among them is Branden Sabino, a 30-year-old IT specialist, who sold a gold necklace and a gold ring last week.

"Prices are high, and I need cash," he said, adding that with the cost of rent, groceries and car insurance rising, he doesn’t have any savings.

#4  I understand why Israel released virtually none of the 10/7 footage and other documentation.

There are good arguments to be made for that decision.

But in balance, looking at the developments since 10/7 I think it was a grave mistake not to release all the material to the world public, uncut, unblurred and uncensored.

#6  Plenty of footage was put on the internet by Hamas, et al. And there quickly was a good deal of exploration into why the official Israeli reaction was so slow. See here for what we saw at Rantburg on 10/7.

Reasons like it was a major Jewish holiday and everyone not necessary was on leave, that in their arrogance officers ignored the observations of those watching the border, and that Hamas had encouraged everyone to think that they were being seduced toward responsible governance because previous outbursts had led Israel to bounce rubble. Then there was — what is the term Grom uses? — something about exposure training to accustom the IDF to ignore Hamas preparations as looking threatening but leading nowhere… All last summer the jihadi boys massed in their Hamas-paid mobs, rushing the security fence and setting off fire balloons, but never actually trying to get through.

It must be remembered, though, that while Hamas did not expect Israel to be as unguarded as it was, they also did not expect such a quick and deadly response from the disorganized militia of the citizenry with whatever weapons and IDF troops happened to be about. That one ad hoc patrol of girl soldiers that had essentially cleared one of the kibbutzes, ambushing the invaders one by one before the official defenders arrived.

As for the atrocity stories — to say that Hamas et al did not commit massive and systemic atrocities is to ignore the evidence, of Hamas videos posted on the internet, of community security footage from 10/7 and days following posted on the internet, of eyewitnesses as shared at that time and later, and finally the reports from pathologists released later about the bodies of Israelis, foreigners, and Gazans found at the scene. Perhaps some were indeed exaggerated, but there was enough that a clear pattern is visible.

Mavi Marmara 2: New aid flotilla to sail from Turkey to 'break siege' of Gaza - report
[JPost] The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa, and should leave for Gaza on Monday.

Turkey is set to send a flotilla to Gaza on Monday, bringing 5,500 tons of aid to "break the siege" on the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa.

The organization is backed by Fehmi Bulent Yildirim, a Turkish humanitarian activist and president of the Turkish NGO IHH.
IHH is a charitable branch of the the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey, very close to president Erdogan’s government.
In a press conference, Yildirim said the flotilla will include ships from Turkey, Lebanon, and Libya and will sail to Rafah after first docking at El-Arish in Egypt, Ynet reported.

According to a Globes report, the flotilla will also include Zwelivelile "Mandla" Mandela, the grandson of former South African president Nelson Mandela, and Aleida Guevara, the daughter of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.

Ynet claimed that Turkish authorities would approve the flotilla, and the country's intelligence chief was involved in arranging it.

This would be the latest of many aid flotillas launched by Turkish groups to Gaza. The most notable of these in the past was the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010. At the time, Israeli commandos raided the ship and ended up killing several Turkish civilians who were part of the flotilla. The Mavi Marmara incident was a landmark moment in Israeli-Turkish relations, which became severely strained at the time and have yet to fully recover 14 years later.

That flotilla was also organized by IHH, with Yildirim himself having been on board. He was arrested by the IDF and deported.

In the past, IHH has also been accused of aiding or having links to different extremist groups. This includes multiple accusations of links to al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Thai ex-hostage in Gaza recounts return from dark depths of captivity
[BenarNews] Gong Saelao was one of 23 Thais released from Gaza after being abducted by Hamas militants on Oct. 7.

As the sound of gunfire and explosions grew closer, Thai farm laborer Gong Saelao took refuge in his bedroom at a camp in southern Israel on Oct. 7 last year. Not long after, he recalled, he was detained by a group of gun-wielding men who blindfolded him, chained his wrists and ankles, and dragged him into the Gaza Strip.

So began nearly two months in captivity during which he suffered physical and mental abuse but was also treated to acts of kindness by his captors from the Hamas militant group, he said.

Terror Networks
Iran's proxies target Israel: Here's what to know about them
[Jpost] Iranian pro-government media said in the early hours of April 14 that it had attacked Israel on four fronts. This included attacks by Iran itself using drones and missiles, as well as threats from Iranian-backed groups in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen. Iran has spread its proxies throughout the region. These groups pose an increasing threat to Israel and Israel’s partners and allies. It’s important to understand who these groups are and what their capabilities may be.

HEZBOLLAH
Hezbollah is the largest and oldest of the Iranian partner and proxy groups in the region. Founded in the 1980s, it has played an increasingly influential role in Lebanon, essentially controlling who is elected president and controlling parts of the economy. Hezbollah has stockpiled more than 150,000 rockets over the last thirty years. Some of these are short-range rockets that threaten northern Galilee. Other Hezbollah rockets are long-range and can threaten all of Israel, almost to Eilat. In addition, Hezbollah increasingly has precision-guided munitions, meaning it can target strategic infrastructure with precision. In addition, Hezbollah is now believed to have 2,000 drones, which it has increasingly used against Israel. Hezbollah also has anti-tank missiles and thousands of fighters. Some of its fighters are part of its more elite “Radwan” force. Hezbollah has suffered casualties in its attacks on Israel since October 8. Around 250 of its members have been killed. This is a setback for the group. It has also carried out around 3,100 attacks on Israel.

THE HOUTHIS
The Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen have been increasingly a threat since 2015. Originally a small rebel movement, they burst on the scene in 2015 when they took over a swath of Yemen. They are based in the mountains around Sana’a, but they also threatened the coastal cities of Aden and Hodeidah. This caused Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries to intervene in Yemen in 2015. The Houthis received ballistic missile and drone technology from Iran and built an impressive local industry to create long-range missiles and drones. They also developed cruise missiles. Iran used these weapons to target Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh. After October 7 the Houthis began to target Eilat using drones and cruise missiles and then ballistic missiles. Later, the Houthis began targeting ships. It has carried out dozens of attacks on commercial ships, and it has hijacked one ship. It claims to be targeting Israeli-linked and Western ships. The Houthi capabilities have expanded greatly in the last several years. Beginning in 2020, Iran also based its Shahed 136 drones in Yemen. The Houthis now can strike at southern Israel with their weapons.

THE IRAQI MILITIAS
Iran has been backing militias in Iraq since the 1980s. Key militia leaders such as Hadi al-Amiri, the head of the Badr organization, and the late Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were close to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Abu Mahdi was active in supporting Iran’s terrorist causes in the 1980s, such as targeting Kuwait and other countries and groups. After the US invasion of 2003, the Iranian-backed militias began to increase their power in Iraq, feeding off the power vacuum. Abu Mahdi’s Kataib Hezbollah became the vanguard of these militias. It was joined not only by Badr but also by Asaib Ahl al-Haq, whose leader, Qias Khazali, had once been detained by the Americans in Iraq. Other groups popped up as well, such as Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba. In 2014, after ISIS invaded Iraq, the Iranian-backed militias formed the backbone of a paramilitary army called the Popular Mobilization Forces, which numbered more than 100,000 fighters. After the defeat of ISIS in 2017 in Iraq, the militias became an official government-paid force linked to the Iraqi Interior Ministry. In essence, they became the Iranian IRGC of Iraq. The groups then stockpiled missiles and drones. They began to operate more freely in Syria and to threaten US forces and Israel. They also carried out kidnappings, such as the kidnapping of researcher Elizabeth Tsurkov in 2023. They murdered key Iraqi intellectuals and targeted Kurds. They have targeted Israel since October 7, using long-range drones to target Iraq and other areas.

IRANIAN MILITIAS IN SYRIA
Iran’s IRGC operates in Syria. During the Syrian civil war, Iran recruited many groups to support the Assad regime. These included Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, and also Shi’ites from Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2018, Iran began to build up more bases for these groups, such as the Imam Ali base near Albukamal and also encouraged Hezbollah to open its “Golan file” to threaten Israel from the Golan. Iran also moved drones to Syria and tried to move air defenses to its T-4 base in 2018. The Iranian-backed militias in Syria are disparate and have varying capabilities, but most of them are relatively weak. They have targeted US forces and also Israel. They usually require close IRGC supervision and guidance.

PALESTINIAN ISLAMIC JIHAD
Palestinian Islamic Jihad is an Iranian proxy group that is also a Palestinian group. Unlike Hezbollah or the militias in Iraq, it is not a Shi’ite group. PIJ has terrorists in Gaza and participated in the October 7 attack. It had thousands of rockets and thousands of fighters in Gaza, but it has taken losses over six months of war. In the West Bank, PIJ is active mostly in Jenin, where it also has hundreds of members. It has benefited from the illegal trafficking of rifles in the West Bank and has tried to increase its stockpile of weapons and explosives and move into IED (explosive) production. The group is relatively small but has destabilized the northern West Bank and poses an increasing threat.

IDF jets strike in the Beqaa Valley deep in Lebanon - report
[Jpost] Israeli air force jets struck a Hezbollah weapon manufacturing site in the area of Nabi Chit, in the Beqaa valley, deep in Lebanon, the military confirmed on Sunday.

The IDF noted that the strike had been carried out in response to the overnight launches which had been fired into Israeli territory.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli media reported, citing Lebanese sources, that IDF jets had carried out the attack in the Beqaa Valley deep in Lebanon.

Royal Marines are poised to lead 'Dunkirk-style' evacuation of Britons living in the Middle East after Iran launched massive drone and missile attack against Israel
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Royal Marines are poised to lead a 'Dunkirk-style' evacuation of thousands of UK nationals from the Middle East after Iran launched a huge drone and missile attack against Israel last night.

Commandos have already conducted reconnaissance along the Lebanese coastline ahead of a potential maritime rescue mission.

The daring mission - reminiscent of the huge effort to evacuate 338,000 British troops stranded in France by the Germans during the opening salvo of the Second World War in 1940 - was exclusively revealed by the Mail on Friday.

It came a day before Tehran launched a huge aerial bombardment on Saturday evening, which was in retaliation of a deadly consul blast an an Iranian embassy in Syria that killed 13 people.

The Foreign Office has already advised all UK citizens to leave Lebanon.

The evacuation plans, codenamed Operation Meteoric, will be spearheaded by the UK's 'Green Berets' and supported by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

The Mail has been told a party of Marines from 30 Commando arrived in the region in recent days.

Operation Meteoric has been likened to Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of allied soldiers from Dunkirk in 1940 when they were surrounded by German forces.

The Mail has been told how the preparatory work behind Operation Meteoric was conducted by the Royal Marines' Surveillance and Reconnaissance Squadron (SRS).

They studied stretches of the Lebanese coastline and selected potential locations for such a rescue mission.

Stranded civilians would be ferried from beaches in raiding craft to Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) ships in the eastern Mediterranean.

While it is understood Iran is eager to avoid direct engagement with UK forces, RAF Typhoon jets based in Cyprus could provide 'top cover'.

Yemen-based Houthis have also claimed to have shot 'dozens' of rockets towards an IDF base in the north-east of Israel. it is not currently known if the Houthi attacks are linked to Iran's salvo.

US sends in amphibious warship USS Bataan and support vessels with 2,500 Marines on board into the Eastern Mediterranean and places military bases in Iraq on full alert as Iran attacks Israel
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • US Congressional sources say the amphibious war ship Bataan is leading a US naval task force in the Eastern Mediterranean

  • The Bataan has two support ships and together they have about 2,500 Marines onboard, with guided missile destroyers already in the area

  • The decision comes after Iran unleashed a drone attack on Israel in response to a drone strike that left 12 Iranians dead earlier this month

The US also has several guided missile destroyers including the Carney in the area.

US bases in Iraq have been placed on full alert and will also attempt to shoot down missiles and drones aimed at Israel.

In addition, the US has two destroyers and a Cruiser in the Red Sea that are fully armed with anti-missile weapons and they too are under orders to shoot down any Israeli bound missiles or drones.

I would not have been surprised if Iran had sent a commercial civilian flight along with the drones, hoping for a propaganda coup if the US shot it down.

#3  I heard someone, a talking head, on the teevee last night use the term.... "flood the zone." My fear was the cruise missiles and drones would mask a ballistic missile attack. Thankfully, that did not happen.

There was a comment about the drones having their landing lights turned on. This might have been a good method for Iranian ground observers to observe the drones that managed to evade the AAA.

If the IDF pursues a counter-attack, it will likely come in the hours of darkness. Just my guess.

Our news people are so lame and uniformed. Calling jet powered (visible jet exhaust) cruise missiles, prop driven drones. I would have hoped we could have had better, more enlightened reporting.

I think the Iranians did achieve their goal in at least one location. It appeared to "flood the zone" locally in vic an Israeli Air Base and punched through 6 or 7 hypersonic ballistic missiles.

IMO if the lights were on the drones, it was for terror effect as well as targeting.

Both sides learned last night, as well as us, the Russians, and Chinese.

#10  The Iranians did manage to hit Nevatim air base with 7 ballistics. It's where Israeli F35's fly out of.
They didn't manage to actually hit a target there, though. Base remains at full function. Evidently Iranian ballistics are life lobbing mortar rounds, and they basically have to 'paint' an area.
As far as moving the Bataan in, if you're not going to invade somewhere, why? They're just targets in the current fracas. I can see that they might want the Burke destroyers that are in the group, but the Bataan in the current environment is a tragedy waiting to happen.

IDF: 'We intercepted 99% of Iran's threats'; air base hit by missile is functioning
IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Daniel Hagari said in a special statement Sunday morning that Israel intercepted 99% of the "threats" that Iran sent overnight. "Iran launched dozens of surface-to-surface missiles toward Israeli territory. The vast majority of the missiles were intercepted outside of the State of Israel's borders by our Aerial Defense Array. A few missiles fell within Israeli territory; at this stage, we are aware of one child who was injured, and a hit on an IDF base in the south, where there was only minor damage to infrastructure. I repeat, the damage to the IDF base in the south was minor and to the infrastructure only." The base has been identified as Nevatim air base, which is continuing to function.

[Jpost] The Los Angeles Police Department is also monitoring the developments between Iran and Israel, according to a post on X.

The New York Police Department said it's continuing to monitor "recent events in Israel.

"While there are no credible threats to New York City at this time, NYPD said it will continue to deploy resources to houses of worship and sensitive locations throughout the city.

New York City "unequivocally stands with the State of Israel" in the face of this direct attack and escalation by Iran, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement on Saturday night.

Adams said he's been briefed on the unfolding situation.

NO DIRECT THREAT TO NEW YORK CITY AT THE MOMENT
Adams reiterated there is no direct or imminent threat to New York City at this time.

“As mayor of the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, the significance of this attack for Jewish New Yorkers — many of whom have family in Israel right now — is not lost on me, especially less than 10 days before Passover begins," Adams said.

“Our intelligence and counterterrorism teams will continue to closely monitor the situation," he said.

‘Hands off Iran': Chicago activists applaud Iranian attack on Israel
[Jpost] Pro-Palestinian activists clapped and resolved to prevent the United States from helping Israel after it was announced at a conference in Chicago on Saturday that Iran had launched drones at Israel.

US Palestinian Community Network National Coordinating Committee member Hatem Abudayyeh made a special announcement during the March on the Democratic National Convention 2024 conference to tell the audience, “So it begins.”

“Twelve days ago, Israel brazenly hit an Iranian embassy compound in Syria, violating international law again,” said Abudayyeh, referencing the alleged Israeli April 1 strike that killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds force commander Mohammed Reza Zahedi and six other officers. “Iran has just responded around thirty minutes ago.”

Conference participants cheered and clapped when the announcement was made and renewed celebration when it was reported that Yemeni and Iraqi factions may have also joined in the attack.

“They’ve sent drones and missiles against specific targets in occupied Palestine,” said Abudayyeh. “In addition, there are reports of drones being fired from Yemen and Iraq.”

Abudayyeh said that it was the activists’ duty to prepare protests in response “because the United States is going to ‘defend’ the criminal Israeli state.”

“Shame!” Shouted the crowd.

PROTESTORS CHANT 'HANDS OFF IRAN'
After Abudayyeh finished speaking, protesters began to spontaneously chant “hands off Iran” and what appeared to be a call of “glory to the martyrs.”

After they finished chanting, a conference organizer led them in a chant in Arabic, “From the water to the water, Palestine is Arab.”

She hesitantly translated the slogan into English and explained that it demanded the liberation of the colonized Arab land.

The coalition of far-left activist groups is planning to protest the DNC on August 19, chiefly to demand an end to US aid to Israel.

Other demands include diverting military funding to education, housing, and healthcare, legalizing 12 million illegal immigrants living in the US, and “community control” of law enforcement.

House Speaker Kills Effort To Stop The Feds From Spying On Americans Without A Warrant
[Federalist] On Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans joined enough Democrats to defeat 212-212 a bill amendment requiring the federal government to obtain a warrant before spying on Americans before they’re even accused of a crime.

The GOP-controlled House failed to add an amendment proposed by Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., that would have altered Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to mandate that federal authorities obtain a warrant before surveilling American citizens. Johnson and 85 Republicans joined Democrats in killing Biggs’ proposal through a tied House vote.

#2  Politico - The Biden administration is making a final push to advocate for the reauthorization of government surveillance powers ahead of the final House vote on Friday.

CIA Director Bill Burns, who rarely speaks publicly about how the agency uses the program, told POLITICO in a statement that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act's Section 702 — which has caused long-running GOP infighting that forced House Republicans to punt on reauthorization three times in the past — has been key to its disruption of illegal fentanyl shipments into the U.S.

“The threat to the US posed by fentanyl and other synthetic opioids is real,” Burns said in the statement. “Section 702 is an essential tool in CIA’s mission to protect the American people from a range of threats, including illicit fentanyl trafficking. Without this vital program, CIA simply would not be able to defend our country as effectively in as many dangerous corners of the world.”

Tennessee Tries to Make 1st Cousin Marriage Illegal
[Hot Air] I can't speak for the rest of you, but I know I certainly didn't see this coming. Given the current conditions around the country, legislators have their hands full trying to protect the public from any number of crises. But Republican lawmakers in Tennessee have set aside time in their busy schedules to attempt to put an end to the scourge of... first cousins marrying each other. After considerable debate, the bill, endorsed by Republican representative Gino Bulso, finally passed. What was the impetus driving this effort? Particularly with the aftermath of the gay marriage debate mostly behind us, was this really a pressing item on anyone's agenda? (WSMV News)

A bill passed in the Tennesse House that would make it illegal to marry your first cousin in the state, but it did not pass without argument from one lawmaker who pushed an amendment to make it legal for cousins to marry each other if they first received genetic counseling.

CDC Study Doesn't 'Debunk' Link Between COVID-19 Vaccines & Sudden-Deaths
[ZERO] Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times,

A new U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study does not disprove a link between COVID-19 vaccines and sudden deaths among young people, contrary to claims.

The study, published by the CDC’s quasi-journal on April 11, analyzed death certificates from Oregon for people aged 16 to 30 who died between June 2021 and December 2022.

Among people who died with evidence of vaccination, three died within 100 days of a shot, Drs. Juventila Liko and Paul Cieslak with the Oregon Health Authority found.

None of those three deaths could be attributed to messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccination, or shots from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, according to the doctors. Two of the deaths were attributed to underlying conditions while the cause of death for the third was "undetermined."

"These data do not support an association between receipt of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine and sudden cardiac death among previously healthy young persons," the doctors wrote.

The authors failed to note that a much larger, peer-reviewed study from South Korea confirmed vaccine-induced myocarditis caused eight sudden cardiac deaths (SCDs), all among people younger than 45. Myocarditis is a form of heart inflammation.

#6  So … four waves of 100 Shaheed drones each to identify and deplete the ADA assets. Then 30 cruise missiles and 8 hypersonic timed to arrive with the last wave of (jet powered drones). That suggests at least 438 interceptor rockets used expended to interdict the attack (ballpark 1.2 billion dollars?). How many times can Israel endure such strikes (with the aid of US, UK, Jordan and Egypt helping shoot down incoming) before the cupboard is bare. And now there is even more intense competition between Ukraine and Israel to obtain the limited number of ADA missiles in the pipeline.

Algeria (237 TEUs and $10M worth of goods)
Belgium (409 TEUs - $15M worth)
Egypt (211 TEUs - $12M worth)
Greece (319 TEUs - $10M worth)
India (255 TEUs - $10.6M worth)
Italy (238 TEUs - $14M worth)
Turkey (514 TEUs worth $22M)
It should be noted that Israel was a minimal country named as the destination for these goods, with only 21 TEUs identified onboard, worth approximately $3M.

Iran will probably extort $ X from the owners for safe return of the ship and cargo to cover a potion of the cost of ordnance expended during the drone/missile attack...

Cuba reaching US over fate of doctors kidnapped by Al-Shabaab
[Garowe] The Communist government of Cuba is in touch with the US over two medical doctors who were kidnapped by al-Shabaab and whose fate still remain unclear, with the al-Qaeda network in Africa maintaining that they were killed in a US Africa Command airstrike.

Cuba's Foreign Affairs ministry maintained that "will not cease in hope or effort until it learns the truth." The militants issued a statement a few months ago on the fate of the two doctors where it indicated they had been killed by a drone in Jilib town.

Since such reports emanated, the US has remained mum about the fate of the doctors, failing to respond to the matter. The Federal Government of Somalia is also yet to establish the fate of the medics, neither has Kenya, which recruited them for services.

"We await an official response to the inquiries that Cuba has respectfully presented, with elements that the civil and military agencies of the United States that operate in Somalia and in that region of the world can provide," the MINREX noted.

It reiterated Cuba’s gratitude to the governments of Kenya, Somalia and other countries for their efforts. The two doctors were kidnapped by al-Shabaab from Mandera and their driver has since been convicted of planning for their abduction.

The statement recalled that five years are marked on Friday since the doctors were kidnapped in Kenya, where they were serving as part of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement in which they participated voluntarily.

The MINREX stressed that since the news about "the vile and absurd kidnapping" became known, the governments of Kenya, Somalia and Cuba made countless and huge efforts to rescue the two physicians and return them home.

It noted that this unprecedented event in Cuba’s long history of International Medical Cooperation has been guided by the leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro, and permanently monitored by the Communist Party of Cuba, the State and the Government, headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and other authorities.

The MINREX indicated that on February 17, news was received about the alleged deaths of Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodríguez Hernández, victims of an air raid by US military forces operating in Somalia on February 15.

It stressed that despite the multiple efforts made by the Cuban Government, no information or evidence has been obtained that would allow us to reach definitive conclusions and clarify whether the doctors are still alive or confirm their deaths..

"Given the nature of the conflict in Somalia and the impossibility of getting confirmation, in recent weeks Cuba has repeatedly requested, through direct communications and diplomatic notes to the US Government, precise information about the events that occurred," the statement said.

The United States did confirm the said airstrike but maintained it only targeted Al-shabaab militants within the vicinity of Jilib. Sources say the doctors had been offering services to injured members of the group until their alleged demise.

#2  AN interesting outreach, given the Cubans might hope our strike assessments can help determine if they were killed in the strike. Hardly likely we would give detailed analysis since it gives up TTPs, but also interesting since many Cuban Doctors are also likely active intelligence assets worldwide.

First-time mother, 38, stabbed to death in Sydney shopping centre knife rampage as her nine-month-old baby daughter fights for life: Victim's tragic final posts are revealed as witnesses describe how she tried to throw her daughter to safety
Based on updates in comments below that reveal the homeless killer, Joel Cauchi, has suffered from mental illness since childhood, this is moved to Page 3: Non-Wot.

— trailing wife at 12:55 p.m. ET
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A new mother stabbed to death in the Sydney shopping centre knife rampage has been pictured for the first time.

Ash Good, 38, was among the six shoppers at Sydney's Bondi Junction Westfield who were killed today, when a man, 40, dressed in a rugby league jersey, went on a stabbing rampage about 3.20pm before a female police officer shot him dead.

A total of nine people, including Ms Good's nine-month-old baby Harriet, suffered knife wounds. The infant is fighting for her life after being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

Just hours before the horror unfolded, Ms Good posted a photo to Instagram with her daughter in her arms.

'Only because I was walking past and happened to be wearing the same thing 9 months out vs 9 months in etc etc,' the caption read.

The knifeman, who killed five women and one man during a rampage in Sydney today, was 'known to police'.

Six people were killed and three more stabbed during the horrific attack in that left multiple people critically injured.

But one man was hailed a hero for rushing to aid Ms Good and her baby as he told how he desperately worked to keep the infant alive using store clothes.

A witness interrupted a Nine News reporter at the scene in Bondi Junction and pointed to his brother, saying: 'He's a hero - he saved the baby'.

The clearly shaken man said he used clothes from a store to try and stem the baby's bleeding.

'The baby got stabbed and, yeah, the mum got stabbed,' he said.

'The mum came over with the baby and threw it at me. I just helped by holding the baby... and trying to compress the baby('s wounds).'

The brothers stayed with the mother and called emergency services.

Four women and one man died at the scene and another woman died in hospital.

New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb told a press conference: 'Later this evening we became aware of who we believe the offender is and we believe that he is a 40-year-old man.

'However, we are waiting to formally identify him and we cannot speculate yet on his identification.

'But let me assure you that we are confident that there is no ongoing risk and we are dealing with one person who is now deceased.'

She added: 'If in fact it is the person that we believe it is, then we don't have fears for that person holding an ideation - in other words, that it's not a terrorism incident.

'He is known to law enforcement but we are waiting to identify him formally.'

Anthony Cooke, assistant commissioner of New South Wales Police, said: 'A man walked into Westfield at Bondi Junction, he left the centre very shortly after and returned... as he moved through the centre he engaged with about nine people.

'It is clear that during that engagement he caused harm to those people, we believe by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying.

'Very clearly a range of reports were made on the incident, police attended promptly - a single unit officer, inspector of police, was nearby, attended, [and] went into the centre directed by a range of people.

'She confronted the offender who had moved, by this stage, to level five.

'As she continued to walk quickly behind to catch up with him he turned to face her, raised a knife, she discharged a firearm and that person is now deceased.'

He added: 'I'm advised that there are five victims who are now deceased as a result of the actions of this offender.

'There are more than several other people who have been conveyed to hospital - a number of those are in serious and or critical conditions at this stage and I do not have further information in relation to descriptions of those people.

'I know one of them is a small child.'

It was later confirmed that six people died in the attack.

Mr Cooke said: 'I am content that there is no continuing threat; our police, as I said, have commenced investigations into the matter which will continue through the evening.

'I do not have details of victims who have been killed by this individual, nor those who have been conveyed to hospital for treatment - so I cannot provide you further information into relation to them, only to say very clearly our hearts go out to all of them, as they do (to) anyone touched by this incident this afternoon.

'I do not have information in relation to the offender - I do not know, at this stage, who he is, you would understand this is quite raw.

'Inquiries are very new and we continue to make attempts to identify the offender in this matter.

'That is it for the moment, in terms of information that I have for you.'

Security camera footage broadcast by local media showed a man running around the shopping centre with a large knife and injured people lying on the floor.

Witnesses said the dark-haired man, wearing a Kangaroos NRL jersey, slashed at least eight shoppers before he was shot by a female police officer. No-one else is being sought by police.

Pictures and videos from the incident have been uploaded on X including one photo showing the alleged attacker casually riding an escalator while holding a large knife.

Killer's parents share a message for cop who shot their son dead

The family of Bondi Westfield killer Joel Cauchi, 40, have revealed they have 'no issue' with the police officer who shot dead their son.

NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott gunned Cauchi down, bringing an end to his rampage that killed six innocent people and left more in hospital.

The killer's parents have released a statement saying they are 'absoluted devastated' by their son's actions and have no problem with Inspector Scott's decision to pull the trigger.

'We are in contact with both the New South Wales Police Force and Queensland Police Service and have no issues with the Police Officer who shot our son as she was only doing her job to protect others and we hope she is coping alright,' the statement from the Cauchi family read.

They condemned their son's actions, describig them as 'truly horrific' and confirming that he has suffered from mental health problems from a young age.

'Joel’s actions were truly horrific, and we are still trying to comprehend what has happened,' they said.

'He has battled with mental health issues since he was a teenager.'

They added: 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims and those still undergoing treatment at this time.'

A working group at the Crimean parliament, proved the illegality of the transfer of the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] In Crimea, they substantiated the illegality of transferring the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954, said the head of the republican parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov.
Of course they did. Whether they would have done so a few years ago is a moot point.
“A working group at the Crimean parliament, consisting of experts and lawyers, has substantiated the illegality of the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR; now all that remains is to make a judicial and political decision,” Konstantinov told RIA Novosti.

The withdrawal of Crimea from the RSFSR led to grave geopolitical consequences. In addition, the transfer of the peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR grossly violated the legal foundations of the Constitutions of the USSR, RSFSR and Ukrainian SSR. Also, administrative and economic procedures were not followed, and guarantees of the rights of Crimeans were not spelled out, the head of the republic’s parliament clarified.

According to the procedure, it was first required to hold a referendum within the RSFSR, taking into account the opinions of the local population, but no one asked the Crimeans. The Ukrainian SSR also neglected to hold a referendum on the annexation of Crimea.

As Regnum reported, according to Vladimir Konstantinov, a working group has been created in Crimea that is assessing the damage from being part of Ukraine. The Ukrainian authorities will be calculated and presented with the amount of damage, including for lost profits during the years of being part of the Ukrainian SSR. Specialists are working consistently and scrupulously, added the head of the Crimean parliament.

According to Konstantinov, the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR was not expedient. He compared the procedure carried out in 1954 to the way a bag of potatoes is handed over, as well as how, during serfdom, estates were given along with the serfs. Back in 2014, Crimeans clearly expressed their decision in a referendum and now continue to firmly stand their ground, the politician concluded.

On February 19, 1954, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR issued a decree on the transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR. On April 26, the decree was approved by USSR law and went down in history as the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine.

Crimea returned to Russia in March 2014 following a referendum after the coup in Ukraine. In the referendum, 96.77% of voters in Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol were in favor of reunification with Russia. At the same time, Ukraine still considers the peninsula to be its temporarily occupied territory, a position shared by many Western countries.

NPR reportedly in turmoil after editor accuses outlet of liberal bias
[NYPOST] NPR has reportedly been thrown into turmoil after a bombshell essay penned by a veteran editor claimed the broadcaster allowed liberal bias to affect its coverage — with the editor-in-chief telling furious staffers she did not want him to become a “martyr.”

Uri Berliner, a Peabody Award-winning journalist who has worked at NPR for 25 years, called out journalistic blind spots around major news events, including the origins of COVID-19, the war in Gaza and the Hunter Biden laptop, in an essay published Tuesday on Bari Weiss’ online news site the Free Press.

The senior business editor also said the internal culture at NPR had placed race and identity as ”paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace.”

Berliner’s essay sparked a firestorm of criticism from prominent conservatives — with former President Donald Trump demanding NPR’s federal funding be yanked — and has led to internal tumult, the New York Times reported Friday.

(Just) 22 Percent Trust U.S. Gov't to Do Right Thing Most of Time-Rasmussen national survey found 45% trust them to do the right thing only some of the time, and 32% rarely or never.
[Newsmax] Just 22% of voters trust the federal government to do the right thing most of the time. A Scott Rasmussen national survey conducted by RMG Research found that 45% trust them to do the right thing only some of the time, and 32% rarely or never.

The survey also found that 51% believe most Americans are too trusting of the government, while 33% believe most are too skeptical.

METHODOLOGY
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on March 26-27, 2024. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.

Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.

Struggle to Save Ethiopian Jewry (SSEJ), a volunteer-staffed organization in the United States dedicated to the assistance of the Ethiopian Jewish community, airlifted the medical supplies over the course of weeks.

The aerial transport from the U.S. to the city of Gondar began on Mar. 9 and finished on Apr. 5, delivering 10 pallets of supplies to the community for use at the SSEJ medical clinic.

SSEJ President Jeremy Feit spoke to Fox News Digital about the unique struggles facing Ethiopian Jewry and how they are hoping to help.

"Much of the support that the Jews in Ethiopia receive comes from remittance from relatives in Israel," Feit explained. "When the war started, large sections of the Israeli economy shut down. As a result, the Israeli relatives of the Jews in Ethiopia are not in the financial position to send funds."

SSEJ partnered with the Afya Foundation, an organization in New York that facilitates the redistribution of surplus medical supplies to care centers around the world in need of materials. The air transportation was provided by international humanitarian organization Airlink.

Feit told Fox News Digital that their SSEJ clinics are intended to cater specifically to the Jewish enclaves, but that the majority of materials delivered there will then be redistributed by the Jewish clinic to other, secular care facilities in the region.

"Some of [the medical supplies] will remain at SSEJ's medical clinics and assist the Jews, but much of it will go towards other local health clinics which are in dire need," Feit told Fox News Digital. "We're talking clinics where electricity goes down frequently in this region, and they don't tend to have backup generators. The conditions are in vast need of improvement."

"Supplies are hard to get. Funding is hard to come by," he continued. "We cannot ignore the suffering of others around there — non-Jews, Christians, Muslims, others."

The majority of Ethiopian Jews were airlifted to Israel via a series of covert evacuations undertaken by Israeli forces in cooperation with United States intelligence agencies.

The most prominent of these evacuations were Operation Moses in 1984 and Operation Solomon in 1991.

The enduring Jewish community in Ethiopia consists of approximately 13,500 people largely concentrated around the cities of Gondar and Addis Ababa, where the Israeli consulate and embassy are respectively located.

"The Jews in Gondar and Addis Ababa almost all originated in small, little villages," Feit said. "They left the villages to go to Gondar and Addis Ababa because that's where the Israeli consulates […] are located."

Ethiopian Jewry is further subdivided into demographics based on current geography and religious practices. "Beta Israel" is the name given to the ethnic group that made up the majority of those airlifted into Israel in the 20th century.

"Falash Mura" refers to a cross-section of these same communities that converted — willingly and unwillingly — to Christianity in the 18th and 19th centuries. The nature and cascading ramifications of this mass conversion has complicated their right to Israeli immigration.

"The question is — are these people Jewish? Because any Jew anywhere on earth is eligible for Israeli citizenship and absorption," explained Bonnie Glick, former deputy administrator for the United States Agency for International Development. "But if they're not actually Jewish, and they're economic refugees or asylum seekers, then technically under the Jewish law of return, they would not be eligible."

Glick worked for the State Department during Operation Solomon in May 1991 and told Fox News Digital about the unprecedented nature of past evacuations.

"In 1991, a lot of the people who were airlifted out, very much like Operation Moses, had never been on an airplane before. They had never been in a city before, and they were airlifted throughout the 40-hour period." Glick told Fox News Digital. "So they're sitting on tarmacs in their traditional garb in the middle of the night. Everyone has a fluorescent sticker on their forehead to show that they're eligible for transport. It was crazy."

Beta Israel currently makes up just under 2% of the Israeli population, while those who remain in Africa are typically of the Falash Mura demographic.

Political and religious debate over who among those left in Africa has a legitimate claim to Jewish identity and Israeli emigration continues to decision-making on the issue.

While continued fighting between Israel and Hamas does not directly affect Ethiopian Jewry stuck in Gondar and Addis Ababa, the war has brought Israeli aid and political attention to a halt.

"While the war rages, it is hard for the government of Israel to focus on other issues," said Feit. "As a result — while they appointed people to examine how many more Jews should be brought in and when — little progress has been made and, in the meantime, the Jews in Ethiopia suffer living in mud huts without running water, kitchens, bathrooms or electricity."

However, Ethiopian Jews are not only concerned about themselves, but also their relatives who have gone to Israel ahead of them.

"Thousands of Jews in Ethiopia have relatives in Israel and the safety of their loved ones amidst massacres by terrorists and constant rocket fire from Hezbollah and Hamas is causing constant distress, Feit told Fox News Digital.

He added, "Praying towards Jerusalem as they have for thousands of years, the Jews in Ethiopia now include in their daily prayers special prayers on behalf of the State of Israel and the IDF."

Iran launches drone strike on Israel
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Iranian military carried out a drone strike on Israeli territory, media reported on the evening of April 13.

“Iran carried out a drone strike on Israel,” KAN radio reported.

According to The Jerusalem Post, dozens of Iranian drones are flying in the direction of Israel.

As Regnum reported, on April 13, the naval forces of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized the commercial ship MSC Aries in the Strait of Hormuz. It was noted that the Portuguese-flagged vessel is associated with the London-based company Zodiac Maritime, which is part of the Zodiac Group of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer.

The United States admitted the possibility of an Iranian strike on Israeli territory in the early morning of April 14 in response to the attack on its consulate in Syrian Damascus. Washington expressed deep concern at the prospect of a large-scale attack on the Jewish state.

The US Central Intelligence Agency on April 13 warned of a possible Iranian response to the attack on its consulate in Damascus. The intelligence service said that Tehran intends to attack Israeli territory with hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles within 48 hours. After this, Israel put its troops on alert.

On April 1, Israeli aircraft launched a missile attack on the Iranian Consulate General in Damascus. The building was completely destroyed. Several people died on the spot, among whom were two generals of the Iranian IRGC Corps - Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji. In addition, five more representatives of this military formation were killed in the attack.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israel's actions against the Iranian consulate. The department called on Israel to stop its aggressive steps.

[Regnum] The naval forces of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized the commercial ship MSC Aries in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian state agency IRNA reports.

According to the Associated Press, the Portuguese-flagged vessel is associated with London-based Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer's Zodiac Group.

As a representative of the Ministry of Defense of one of the Middle Eastern countries noted to the agency, the ship was attacked by Iranian forces.

As Regnum reported, on April 3 it became known that the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned of a possible Iranian response to the attack on its consulate in Damascus.

The intelligence service said that Tehran intends to attack Israeli territory with hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles within 48 hours. Against this background, Israel put its troops on alert.

Israeli aircraft launched a missile attack on the Iranian Consulate General in Damascus on April 1. The building was completely destroyed. Iran's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Zahra Ershadi, said that because of this, the exact number of victims remains unknown.

Among the dead were two generals of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) - Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji. In addition, five more representatives of this military formation were killed in the strike.

Car bomb explodes in Damascus embassy district; no reports of injuries
[IsraelTimes] An explosive device detonated in a car in an upscale neighborhood of Damascus, Syrian state media says, quoting a police source.

Security incidents, including blasts targeting military or civilian vehicles, occur intermittently in Damascus.

It is not immediately clear who was responsible for the blast or who it targeted.

But it came with tensions high in Syria’s capital after Iran vowed retaliation for a strike on a building in the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital of Damascus, which killed several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders, including two generals. Tehran has blamed Israel for the strike.

“The explosion heard a short while ago in the Mazzeh area resulted from an explosive device detonating in a car in al-Huda square,” Syria’s official SANA news agency says, quoting a Damascus police command source.

It adds that there were no injuries.

The incident happened in the Mazzeh area, where Iran’s embassy and other foreign missions are located.

Biden interrupts weekend at the beach to return to White House as Israel braces for Iran attack
[NYPOST] President Joe Biden is interrupting his beach weekend to return to the White House as Israel and US forces in the Middle East brace for a possible impending attack by Iran.

Biden had been in Rehoboth Beach, Del., and was originally expected to return on Sunday, CNN reported.

The president is expected to be back at the White House Saturday to “consult with his national security team about events in the Middle East,” his administration confirmed.

Both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris previously raised eyebrows by jetting out of DC as tensions between Israel and Iran reached a boiling point.

Jewish writers say the post-Oct. 7 English literary world has blacklisted them
One of several reasons why so many writers in recent years have gone the self-publish route — including a number of Rantburgers — via Amazon and others. Long and full of liberals mugged by reality, so I give you the opening and closing, dear Reader.
[IsraelTimes] As the war in Gaza goes on, authors say that when they don’t face outright hostility for being Jews, they are marginalized as publishers claim their voices aren’t marketable.

All this leaves Howard Lovy, a Jewish writer and editor, feeling pessimistic.

“I don’t see this getting better anytime soon. There’s not only prejudice against Jewish and Israeli authors — even those who don’t even write about Israel at all — but there’s a perception among literary agents and publishers that there’s no market for Jewish voices right now. They believe readers just don’t want to hear from Jews at all,” Lovy said. “Whether this is true among the reading public, I don’t know, but it’s enough that the literary community believes it. That perception alone is leading to lost opportunities for Jewish writers, projects canceled and phone calls not being returned.”

However, Lovy implored Jewish and Israeli members of the literary community to carry on.

“Now, more than ever, it’s time to make our voices heard. In fact, I’ve spoken to Jewish authors who decided that they will write about Jewish issues more now than they would have otherwise. The answer to the silencing of Jewish voices is to make our voices louder,” he said.

#1  The bad truth is that so far neither the perpetrators of 10/7 nor of 9/11 can be said to have made a mistake.

Both attacks weakened the West and strengthened the enemies of Western civilization precisely because, and not in spite of their atrocious nature and scale.

The result of both attacks so far has been that Islam is now relevant in the West as it has never been before while we are on the defensive and our deterrence is gone.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard seizes Israeli-linked ship near Strait of Hormuz
[NYPOST] Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps seized an Israeli-linked container ship near the Strait of Hormuz in the latest escalation of the simmering standoff between the two countries.

An unverified video of the incident first obtained by the Associated Press showed IRGC commandos rappelling onto the MSC Aries vessel, the Times of Israel reported.

“Don’t come out,” a crew member on the ship can be heard saying in the footage, which was also posted on X by Times of Israel reporter Mannie Fabian.

The crew member can then be heard telling another to head to the ship’s bridge, as more IRGC commanders were rappelling onto the desk.

One commando is seen kneeling over the others to protect them from potential cover fire, the Times of Israel reported.

Sudan's military announces progress in restoring defence capabilities
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudanese military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan declared on Friday that significant progress has been made in restoring the country’s defence industries, air force, and artillery and aviation systems.

Speaking to soldiers and officers in Omdurman, al-Burhan expressed confidence, stating, “The armed forces have successfully restored a major portion of our defence capabilities. The battle will soon be resolved in the people’s favour.”

He said the Sudanese people’s patience and strong will to end the insurgency are the key factors behind the army’s recent victories.

“The mobile combat units established by the leadership are well-equipped to neutralize and suppress the insurgency. The army, backed by the people, will not be vanquished. To those who dream of disbanding the armed forces, we say: this is an impossible dream,” he stressed.

Florida enacts new laws designed to protect law enforcement officers
[JustTheNews] DeSantis pointed out that since the recruitment bonuses were offered, over 400 law enforcement officers from other states, namely California, Illinois and New York, have moved to Florida.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law several measures on Friday intended to protect and support law enforcement officers.

Senate Bill 184 increases penalties for those who knowingly harass, physically harm or impede a law enforcement officer or other first responders from carrying out their duties to a second-degree misdemeanor.

House Bill 601 prevents anti-police activists from carrying out extrajudicial investigations against law enforcement. The bill ensures that allegations against law enforcement are investigated by those properly trained to handle such investigations. County sheriffs will also receive an increase in their base salary of $5,000 for each population group.

DeSantis said during a news conference that his administration has a track record of supporting law enforcement in Florida.

"We’ve developed a track record in Florida of supporting law enforcement that is quite simply, second to none," DeSantis said. "We understood how important it is to have safe communities, and the way you do that is to support the people that are putting the uniform on and risking their lives to keep us safe."

DeSantis noted that it was essential that his administration and the Legislature took this position after other states began to defund police. He added that because of this, many law enforcement officers wanted to leave their careers.

"We saw that as an opportunity for the state of Florida, given our posture was much different," DeSantis said. "So, a couple of years ago, we enacted $5,000 recruitment bonuses for new law enforcement officers, some of that is recruiting from other states, but also, young people have decided to go into the profession in Florida."

Khartoum activists blame RSF for deadly shelling in Al-Jarif
[SUDANTRIBUNE] At least 13 people were killed and others injured in artillery shelling that struck Al-Jarif’s eastern Hab Al-Naseem neighbourhood on Thursday. The Al-Jarif Emergency Room confirmed the casualties but did not assign blame.

Local activists believe the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible. They allege the RSF, which controls much of the eastern Nile region, fired on a residential area where a social gathering was taking place. This resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

Speaking anonymously to the Sudan Tribune, a resident claimed the RSF had previously banned gatherings in the area. They believe the shelling aimed to displace residents.

The eastern Nile has been tense for the past two months following clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese army. The RSF currently controls most of the region.

Communication and internet services in Khartoum have been largely unavailable since February, further straining the population.

The conflict between the military and the RSF nears its first anniversary. Both sides prioritize military victory, ignoring international, regional, and local pleas for a ceasefire and negotiations.

Google Begins Blocking News From California Outlets Over State Bill
[ZeroHedge] Google has temporarily blocked access to California-based news outlets for some state residents, as the search giant escalates its battle with the state over a landmark bill which would force tech giants to pay online publishers for their content.

In doing so, the company has revived a political tactic used repeatedly by the tech industry to try and derail similar legislation in places like Canada and Australia which require online platforms to pay outlets for articles featured on their websites, Politico reports.

"We have long said that this is the wrong approach to supporting journalism," said Google's VP for global news partnership, Jaffer Zaidi, in a Friday blog post. According to Zaidi, the bill could "result in significant changes to the services we can offer Californians and the traffic we can provide to California publishers."

Sacramento is hosting the latest round of a global fight over the journalism industry’s future in the digital age, and California’s battle has taken on additional resonance because the state is home to tech titans. Advocates for such legislation argue companies like Google and Meta have helped decimate already flagging newsroom revenues through their control over digital advertising, and outlets deserve compensation for content that users may see on their platforms for free.

The companies counter that these laws could stifle vital sources of information — and they’ve fought back by attempting to preview what they say that would look like. -Politico

In Canada, Google similarly threatened to block content before reaching a deal with the government last November, three weeks before the 'Online News Act' came into effect. The company agreed to make annual payments to news outlets in the range of $100 million.

Meta, meanwhile, has completely removed news content from its social feed in Canada, and has threatened to do the same in California - where the company has lobbied heavily against the measures currently under consideration in the state legislature. The company has spent over $1 million to run an ad campaign decrying the bill as a "link tax," a phrase Zaidi used in his blog post.

According to state Sen. Ben Allen (D), "Newspaper publishers and the journalists provide a really important service as a part of [Google’s] broader business model, and meanwhile they’re going bankrupt and you guys have record profits."

IDF: Israeli Air Force is on alert, dozens of aircraft are in the sky
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Rear Admiral and head of the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Daniel Hagari said on April 13 that the defense and attack systems of the country's Air Force are on alert - dozens of aircraft are in the sky. He told reporters about this at a briefing.

According to Hagari, the IDF assessed the situation and agreed on plans to prepare for an attack from Iran.

“We are assessing the situation with our strategic partners, primarily the United States, and maintaining close coordination with them,” Hagari assured.

As Regnum reported, the United States assumes that Iran may attack Israeli territory in response to the attack on its consulate in Syrian Damascus in the early morning of April 14, Al Jazeera warned, citing a representative of the American administration.

On April 13, US President Joseph Biden interrupted his day off and returned from his residence in Delaware to the White House due to the worsening situation in the Middle East. He intends to hold consultations with his national security aides, the American leader noted in the pool.

On the evening of April 1, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus. According to a source in the Iranian publication Tasnim, at least five people were killed and 12 more were injured in the attack. One of the dead was a commander from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi promised on April 2 to respond to Israel's attack on the consulate. He condemned the actions of the Israeli military and called them an “inhumane” attack, as well as a clear violation of international law.

Chronicle: Iran's war against Israel
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 22:52 Israel closed its airspace for three hours, starting at 1 am. Jordan previously closed its skies to civil aviation. Iran announced this in Tehran.

TsAGAL confirmed the Iranian drone launch, saying the army is familiar with the threat and knows how to deal with it.

23:19 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the evening of Saturday, April 13, addressed the country's citizens about the Iranian attack, saying that Israel had been preparing for this for years. In the address, the Israeli Prime Minister said that the country is ready for a direct attack from Iran, both defensively and offensively, and will retaliate.

“I have established a clear principle - whoever harms us, we will harm him. We will defend ourselves against any threat, and we will do so calmly and decisively,” Netanyahu concluded.

23:40 Iran confirmed the launch of a UAV and announced the earliest possible launch of a missile attack on Israel, the Iranian Fars agency reports.

23:42 Jordan is ready to intercept drones and missiles that fly through its territory in the direction of Israel, reports Reuters.
Whoa! Who had that on their Israel Bingo card for this year?
23:45 The White House said Biden's team is in constant communication with Israeli officials, as well as other partners and allies. "President Biden has made it clear: Our support for Israel's security is ironclad. The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support the defense against these threats from Iran," the statement said.

23:59 Information appeared in the Arab media that an explosion was heard in the center of Tehran.
Oh? How very interesting.
14th of April
00:07 Jordan has opened its airspace to Israeli Air Force fighters.
*Boggle* I guess that peace treaty really means something.
00:08 Israel has begun intercepting Iranian drones over Syria and Jordan, Israeli Channel 12 reported.

00:22 The Iranian Ministry of Defense said that any country that opens its territory or airspace to Israeli attacks on Iran "will receive our direct response."

00:24 Between 400 and 500 drones and missiles will be launched into Israel from Iraq, Syria, southern Lebanon and Yemen, but the bulk will be launched from Iran, ABC NEWS reports.

00:37 Air defense begins operating in Tel Aviv. Videos of air defense missiles flying over are appearing on social networks.

00:44 Arab media report the first launches of Iranian ballistic missiles towards Israel.

00:58 British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that London will continue to defend the security of Israel and all regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq.

01:05 Iranian oppositionists condemn the attack on Israel and call for an uprising. Prominent Iranian opposition figures have denounced Iran's drone attack on Israel as contrary to the will of the majority of Iranians, whom they urge to oppose the regime of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In particular, Iran's Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, came out with condemnation.

01:25 Israeli media quote Israeli officials as saying that there is no information yet that ballistic missiles were launched from Iran at Israel.

01:27 The United States shot down a number of Iranian UAVs heading towards Israel, ABC reports.
Thank you, America!
01:46 The Israeli publication Times Of Israel, citing a representative of the Israeli defense department, reported that more than a hundred Iranian UAVs have already been intercepted by the US and British military outside Israeli airspace.
And thanks to the Brits, too!
01:51 Alarm signals are sounding in many cities in Israel, including Jerusalem.

01:55 Iran's mission to the UN says it considers the attack on Israel "complete." “The case can be considered completed,” the message says. "However, if the Israeli regime makes another mistake, Iran's response will be much stricter."
This space intentionally left blank.
2:29 Amman media reports that debris from an Iranian missile shot down by air defense forces over Jordanian Amman fell on the city.

2:31 Celebrations continue in Tehran regarding the attack on Israel. Hundreds of people with Iranian flags took to the streets of the city at night.
Hundreds? Golly. Still, it was the middle of the night, and they’re all exhausted waiting for Israel’s blow to fall.

The seven hundred and eightieth day of large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has begun. During the past day, 97 combat clashes took place.

Feral yoots assault, attempt to rob Uber driver at gunpoint while filming attack
[NYPOST] A group of teens attacked an Uber driving while filming him, breaking his nose and gashing his head.

The brazen kids — who appear to be between 11 and 17 years old — recorded the Brooklyn beatdown with a cell phone, said the driver, who asked not to be identified because he fears retribution.

“One was punching me and the other one had a gun,” the victim said. “He said. . .‘Give me everything – give me all the money.’”

The driver had arrived on Alabama Avenue in East Flatbush to pick up a female fare named Precious around 7 p.m. Sunday and noticed a group of teens across the street, he said. He asked if they knew his fare and they said no, he recalled.

When he turned his head to look for his client — he was suddenly punched in the face through his open window.

“I didn’t see them — a surprise punch,” he said.

Two of the alleged teen suspects were captured on video at the scene.

He got out of his car “to fight back” and “noticed that one of them was filming,” said the victim.

At that point, a brawl broke out and he ended up on the ground, where one of the punks hit him in the head with the scooter, he said.

The attackers scattered after a neighbor came outside and called 911. The neighbor also found the phone the kids used and saw a video of the victim on the device.

As he waited for an ambulance, two of the kids returned, “looking for the phone,” the driver said.

“The party’s over, the police are coming,” the driver yelled, sending them scurrying. “I don’t know if they intended to rob me or if it was just to make a TikTok video.”

The NYPD released photos of the pint-sized suspects.

The photos of the alleged muggers appear to be from inside a building.

The fare, Precious, said she was shocked by what happened and shot video of the kids as they returned to the scene.

“I’m so heartbroken that these kids are doing that,” the 28-year-old from Nigeria said.

Palestinian refugees in Chechnya on their celebration of Eid al-Adha
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Refugees from Palestine stationed in the village of Avtury reported that they organized the holiday mainly for children and did not organize large celebrations, as before in their homeland.

As the "Caucasian Knot" has reported, the Chechen authorities regularly report providing various assistance to refugees from Palestine located on the territory of the republic. Thus, on April 7, it became known that Kadyrov’s foundation distributed money and food to refugees from Palestine in Chechnya in honor of the approaching Eid al-Fitr holiday. The Chechen authorities previously promised to build a residential complex with 35 apartments for the Palestinians. As of January 29, the republic accepted 206 refugees from Palestine.

Ramadan  is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar, a month of fasting, spiritual and moral purification, as well as strengthening faith and will. During Ramadan, Muslims must abstain from food and drink during daylight hours. The month of fasting ends with the holiday of breaking  the fast of  Eid al-Fitr.

Palestinian refugees who are in a temporary residence center celebrated Eid al-Adha. “Children decorated the rooms with balloons, drawings and other decorations. And in one of the buildings of the Gorny Klyuch camp in the village of Avtury in the Chechen Republic, women organized an improvised kitchen for preparing the traditional sweet kataif,” wrote the head of the Ministry of Press of Chechnya, Akhmed Dudayev, in his Telegram channel.

As follows from the video of the Vainakh television company attached to the publication, the women prepared the table. One of the women said that the holiday was organized “for the sake of the children.” Another displaced person said that they still decided to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the children decorated the houses, but the celebration is not carried out as widely as usual, since there is a war in Palestine. “We celebrate here as always. In Palestine we celebrate every year. Well, we’ll celebrate it somehow. We have a war going on there. We also suffered, our parents, our people. Honestly, we won’t celebrate it like always,” he said he's on videotape.

The video, filmed in the evening, shows a table with fruits and sweets, at which eight men are sitting, women standing at another table. Fireworks were also set off to mark the occasion.

Let us recall that Ramzan Kadyrov suggested that officials, on the occasion of the end of Ramadan, pay for low-income residents of Chechnya who buy goods on credit in small shops. On April 6, the authorities reported that more than 100 million rubles were spent from Kadyrov’s fund to pay off the debts of low-income Grozny residents to grocery stores. At the same time, Ramzan Kadyrov stated that the action to pay off debts is not connected with the large number of poor people in Chechnya.

Let us remind you that there is no official information about the sources of financing of the Kadyrov Foundation. According to the head of Chechnya, money is given to the republic by Allah, as well as by “good people.” At the same time, public sector employees in the republic are obliged to transfer about 10% of their income to charity every month, according to the Caucasian Knot certificate “ Kadyrov Foundation: how they spend “money from Allah”.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Press of Chechnya, Akhmed Dudayev, at a meeting with refugees, said that they should maintain cleanliness and be more organized, and they should not rush the authorities of the republic to solve their problems. Dudayev’s reproaches to the guests  contradict the Chechen traditions  of hospitality, Caucasus experts and human rights activists noted.

German police shut down pro-Palestinian gathering over hate speech concerns
[IsraelTimes] Authorities cut power after banned speaker appears via video link; British-Palestinian surgeon who spoke at ceremony for terror leader says Germany denied him entry to attend event

German police cut the power and shut down a conference of pro-Palestinian activists on Friday after a banned speaker appeared by video link, organizers said.

The three-day Palestine Congress, promoted by pro-Palestinian groups including former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis’s DIEM25 party, said it aimed to raise awareness of what it called Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.

The police banned the final two days of the event, citing concern about the potential for hate speech.

Among the speakers was activist Salman Abu Sitta, author of a January essay that expressed understanding for the Hamas terrorists who carried out the devastating October 7 attack on southern Israel in which some 1,200 were killed and a further 253 men, women and children taken hostage to Gaza.

“A speaker was projected who was subject to a ban on political activity,” Berlin police said on social media. “There is a risk of a speaker being put on screen who in the past made antisemitic and violence-glorifying remarks. The gathering was ended and banned on Saturday and Sunday.”

Organizers of the conference said police intervened when Salman, who according to Stern magazine was banned from entering Germany, began speaking on video.

“The police violence, like we were some sort of criminals, was unbearable for a democratic country,” said Karin de Rigo, a parliamentary candidate for the German offshoot of DIEM25. “They not only stormed the stage, they cut the power like we were transmitting violence.”

In Germany as in other Western countries, Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza has stirred growing popular opposition as the Palestinian death toll has mounted.

Shortly after October 7, the German government implemented a formal ban on activity by or in support of Hamas.

Germany’s backing for Israel is rooted in a desire to atone for the genocide of Europe’s Jews in the Nazi Holocaust. The presence of a large, growing Muslim and Arab population in Germany has made the tension particularly acute.

Many protesters have complained that expressions of solidarity with Palestinians are effectively criminalized by authorities on alert for antisemitism.

“It is right and necessary that the Berlin police intervened firmly at the so-called Palestine Congress,” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser posted on social media. She earlier had urged police to be on guard for signs of hate speech at the congress.

Meanwhile, a prominent British-Palestinian surgeon who volunteered in Gaza hospitals during the first weeks of the Israel-Hamas war said he was denied entry to Germany on Friday to take part in the conference.

Abu Sitta said he arrived at Berlin’s airport on Friday morning before being stopped at passport control, where he was held for several hours and then told he had to return to the UK.

Airport police said he was refused entry due to “the safety of the people at the conference and public order,” Abu Sitta told The Associated Press by phone. There was no immediate comment from German federal police.

The UK’s Jewish Chronicle reported last year that Abu Sitta spoke at a Beirut ceremony on the anniversary of the death of a founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Maher Al-Yamani.

The report said Abu Sitta wept as he “hailed the late terror group founder for his success at striking fear into the hearts of Israelis.”

Terrorists from the PFLP participated in the devastating October 7 attack.

On October 8, Abu Sitta promoted a social media post which said Gazans should “fight back and die in dignity” as they were “going to die anyway,” the UK’s Jewish News reported.

Report: Hamas capabilities depleted, but terror group ‘remains in de facto control of swaths of Gaza’
[IsraelTimes] Officials and sources close to Hamas tell Britain’s The Guardian newspaper that while the terror group’s capabilities have been depleted, it is far from defeated.

The report says Hamas “remains in de facto control of swaths of Gaza” and notes that fighters from the terror group have been spotted maintaining order on the streets of Khan Younis, just days after Israeli troops withdrew from the city.

The outlet also notes the tensions between the terror group’s leadership in Gaza and abroad, including “deep personal animosity” between Yahya Sinwar and Khaled Mashal.

Additionally, the report says Hamas is facing rising dissent within Gaza.

Body of Israeli teen found in West Bank; IDF says he was murdered in terror attack
[IsraelTimes] Benjamin Achimeir, 14, went missing while shepherding near outpost; settlers clash with Palestinians; amid concerns death could ignite West Bank, PM says citizens must let security forces work unhindered

The Israel Defense Forces on Saturday found the body of a 14-year-old Israeli who went missing while shepherding in the West Bank a day earlier, as renewed clashes were reported between settlers and Palestinians.

Jerusalem resident Benjamin Achimeir was murdered in a terror attack, the IDF and Shin Bet security agency said in a joint statement.

According to the IDF, Achimeir set out in the early morning hours of Friday from a farm near the outpost of Malachei Shalom to go shepherding. Hours later, the sheep returned to “Gal Farm” without him.

Malachei Shalom is located near the West Bank town of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah.

Achimeir’s body was spotted on Saturday morning by a drone operated by the Border Defense Corps’ 636th Combat Intelligence Collection unit, close to the farm where he initially went missing.

The murder was believed to have been carried out by Palestinian terrorists, and taken place in the late morning hours or early afternoon of Friday, according to an initial investigation.

Next to the teen’s body, troops found his personal belongings that were handed over to police for investigation.

“Security forces are continuing the pursuit of those suspected of carrying out the attack,” the IDF and Shin Bet said, adding that they “send their heartfelt condolences to the family.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “the heinous murder” of Achimeir was a “serious crime.”

“I send my heartfelt condolences to his family,” Netanyahu also said in a statement published by his office.

“We will get the murderers and those who helped them, as we do to anyone who harms the citizens of the State of Israel,” the statement continued.

Security experts have long warned that Hamas wishes to ignite tensions in the West Bank, with concerns that settler reprisals could play into the terror group’s hands.

To that end, Netanyahu also added that he “calls on all citizens of Israel to allow the security forces to do their work unhindered.”

Amid the searches Friday, Israeli settlers rampaged in al-Mughayyir. The settlers set fire to houses and cars and sparked clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, in which a Palestinian man was killed and dozens of others injured.

The deceased man was identified by his family as 26-year-old Jehad Abu Alia.

Renewed clashes between settlers and Palestinians were reported on Saturday in the towns of Beitin and Duma, close to Ramallah.

Rights group reports at least 10 Palestinian villages under attack by settlers

[IsraelTimes] The Yesh Din rights group reports that at least 10 Palestinian villages in the West Bank are currently under attack by Israeli settlers.

  • Al-Mughayyir: Settlers opened fire, torched cars and wounded Palestinians.

  • Duma: Settlers opened fire, torched cars and wounded Palestinians.

  • As-Sawiya: Settlers hurl stones, damaging five homes and several vehicles.

  • Qusra: Settlers torch six homes and four vehicles in addition to other vandalism in the village.

  • Beitin: Settlers torch a car.

  • Silwad: Settlers block the village’s main road, throwing stones at vehicles, which damage several of them.

  • Sinjil: Settlers hurl stones at homes, damaging five of them.

  • Beitillu: Settlers hurl stones at homes, damaging several of them.

  • Turmusaya: Settlers vandalize three vehicles and two homes

  • Beit Furik: Settlers damage several houses and injure one Palestinian.
IDF says calm restored to West Bank after nearly a dozen villages reportedly attacked by settlers
About 6:30 p.m. Israel time.
[IsraelTimes] The IDF and Border Police are deploying more troops to the West Bank following violence by settlers against Palestinians, after the murder of an Israeli teenager.

The military says “clashes developed” between Israelis and Palestinians at several locations in the West Bank, during which stones were hurled and shots were fired, avoiding pointing a finger at the settlers who were widely blamed to have instigated the clashes by ransacking nearly a dozen different villages throughout the West Bank.

Dozens of Israelis and Palestinians were injured in the incidents, the IDF says.

The military says “many forces” were deployed to the sites of the clashes and used riot dispersal means. “As of now, all the incidents have ended,” the IDF says.

“Along with the forces deployed to the area, it was decided to reinforce [the area] with several IDF and Border Police companies,” the army says.

The IDF says it is continuing a manhunt for the terrorists who murdered 14-year-old Benjamin Achimeir.

ATF Final Rule Redefines Word ‘Sale' So that ‘Bartering' for a Neighbor's Gun Requires a NICS Check
[Breitbart] The ATF’s background check rule redefines the word “sale” so that private sellers who receive services or barter in exchange for a gun are required to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Breitbart News reported the ATF’s announcement of the proposed rule on August 31, 2023. The rule redefines what it means to be “engaged in the business of selling guns,” thereby expanding the instances in which an unlicensed seller — i.e., a private citizen — must use the NICS to sell/transfer a gun.

Much of the rule focuses on guns being sold for “profit,” using degree of profit and frequency of sales to categorize private sellers as persons who must go through NICS to sell/transfer guns.

However, pages 26-27 of the rule equates “pecuniary gain” with “profit,” opening the door for the ATF to redefine the word “sale” so as to require a NICS check when a private seller is “bartering” over a gun.

Beginning with the last paragraph on Page 26 and reading into the first paragraph of page 27, the reader sees clearly that the ATF is defining the terms: “Defining these terms to include any method of payment for a firearm would clarify that persons cannot avoid the licensing requirement by, for instance, bartering or providing or receiving services in exchange for firearms with the predominant intent to earn pecuniary gain even where no money is exchanged.”

Second Amendment Foundation founder and executive vice president Alan Gottlieb commented on the ATF rule, saying, “This is a continuation of the Biden war on guns. It is another attempt to get around Congress to make new laws without congressional approval.”

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: April 13, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 18:04 The Russians dropped a KAB-500 on Ocheretino, Donetsk region - they hit a five-story building, one person is known to be wounded. There are probably people under the rubble, but a search operation is not yet possible for security reasons, said the head of the OSA, Vadim Filashkin. In addition, the enemy struck Netailovo, killing two people. In the Kurakhovskaya community, a resident of Novoselidovka died, in the Maryinskaya community, one person was wounded in Krasnogorovka.

17:06 Germany will transfer another Patriot system to Ukraine , the country’s Ministry of Defense reported. They assured that the air defense system would be transferred “immediately.” In turn, the Office of the President reported that Zelensky, during a telephone conversation with Scholz, “thanked the Chancellor for providing the additional Patriot system, IRIS-T and Skynex systems, missiles and cartridges for existing anti-aircraft missile systems.”

14:59 The Russians dropped ammunition from an FPV drone on the village. Petropavlovka, Kupyansky district - the driver of an emergency medical team was injured, the prosecutor's office reported.

14:13 Mashinostroitelny Plant 100 was attacked in Lugansk, Radio Liberty reports, citing sources. The enterprise repaired military equipment, and also housed personnel of the Russian Army. The occupation "authorities" also announced a strike on a machine-building plant. Local residents posted a video in which the sound of ammunition detonating can be heard.

13:52 Trump supported providing assistance to Ukraine, but “in the form of a loan, not just a gift.” According to the US presidential candidate, Europe "should give its money to help Ukraine, because it affects them more."

12:47 The Russians shot at a civilian car in the border area of the Novgorod-Seversky district of the Chernihiv region - a man who was carrying food to the population died, said the head of the OVA Vyacheslav Chaus.

11:43 Donald Trump, while serving as President of the United States, made it clear that he believed that Ukraine should be part of Russia, said a former adviser to the ex-president. In addition, sources say Trump is likely to use US military aid to Ukraine as leverage to force both sides to the negotiating table. Read more in the article What Trump thought about Ukraine .

11:20 The Ministry of Defense denied the information that Bogdanovka in the Bakhmut direction was allegedly captured by the Russians. The department emphasized that intense fighting is taking place for Bogdanovka. At night, enemy assault groups made their way to the northern outskirts of the city, but Bogdanovka is now under the control of the Defense Forces.

10:57 The situation on the Eastern Front has worsened significantly in recent days, Syrsky said. In his opinion, this is primarily due to the significant intensification of the enemy’s offensive actions after the presidential elections in the Russian Federation. Warm, dry weather also favors enemy advances. The commander-in-chief noted that the Russian army “periodically achieves tactical success.”

According to Syrsky, only achieving technical superiority over the enemy in high-tech weapons will allow Ukraine to defeat a larger enemy and create conditions for intercepting the strategic initiative. Another serious problem is improving the quality of training of military personnel, primarily infantry units, Syrsky added.

09:15 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of April 13:

  • personnel - about 452,760 (+1030) people,

  • tanks - 7169 (+23),

  • armored combat vehicles - 13,745 (+47),

  • artillery systems - 11,518 (+32),

  • MLRS - 1045 (+3),

  • air defense systems - 756 (+1),

  • aircraft - 347 (+0),

  • helicopters - 325 (+0),

  • UAV of operational-tactical level - 9201 (+40),

  • cruise missiles - 2088 (+1),

  • ships/boats - 26 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 15,396 (+57),

  • special equipment - 1893 (+5).

09:11 Late in the evening of April 12, the Russians shelled Kupyansk in the Kharkov region, two people were injured, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA. In addition, the enemy attacked workers working in the field in the village with a drone. Shestakovo, Chuguevsky district, - four people were injured, agricultural equipment was damaged. In Volchansk, one person was injured as a result of an explosive drop from a UAV.

08:36 Russian troops captured Bogdanovka in the Bakhmut district, DeepState analysts report. According to experts, the Russians are gathering reserves for the battle for Chasov Yar.

07:45 Over the past 24 hours, 97 military clashes took place at the front, the General Staff reported in its morning report . In particular, in the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 33 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Belogorivka in the Luhansk region and Verkhnekamennoye, Spornoye, Vyemka, Razdolovka, Chasov Yar, Ivanovskoye, Kleshcheevka, Andreevka in the Donetsk region. In addition, the enemy tried 29 times to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops in the Novopavlovsk direction - in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Georgievka, Novomikhailovka, Konstantinovka, Vodyanoy, Urozhayny, Donetsk region.

The enemy did not conduct offensive actions in the Kupyansk direction. In the Liman direction, one enemy attack was repelled in the Torskoye area of the Donetsk region; in Avdeevsky - 18 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Novokalinovo, Novobakhmutovka, Berdychi, Pervomaiskoye and Netaylovo, Donetsk region; in the Orekhovsky direction - seven attacks in the districts of Staromayorskoye, Donetsk region and Rabotino, Zaporozhye region; on Kherson - six attacks on the left bank of the Dnieper.

03:47 On April 17, the US State Department will hold the US-Ukraine Partnership Forum at the Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Washington. The forum will bring together business leaders, officials and politicians, the main topic of the meeting is the restoration of Ukraine after the war.

01:04 The US and UK have expanded sanctions against Russia, banning the import of aluminum, copper and nickel of Russian origin, as well as limiting their use on world exchanges. "Our new bans on key metals, agreed with our partners in the United Kingdom, will continue to target the revenue that Russia can generate to continue its brutal war against Ukraine," US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said.

00:23 China supports Russia's military efforts in Ukraine by providing drone and missile technology, satellite imagery and weapons production machines. According to Reuters, this was stated by senior American officials at a closed briefing. Some of the information provided by officials was based on declassified intelligence. They showed a wide range of ways in which China is helping Russia without directly providing lethal assistance.

So, according to officials, the Russians probably used machines from China to increase the production of ballistic missiles. In addition, in 2023, 90% of Russian microelectronics imports came from China. Russia used these supplies in the production of missiles, tanks and aircraft. The officials also said China has provided Russia with drone engines and cruise missile turbojets, and that Chinese and Russian enterprises are working to jointly produce drones inside Russia.

To the west of Avdievka, Russian troops are advancing on a broad front, building on their success at the Umanskoye-Yasnobrodovka-Netaylovo line.

In the Uman region, the Russian Armed Forces are moving west, less than a kilometer remains to go to the outskirts of the settlement. According to incoming information, the enemy is preparing to withdraw from the southern part of the village beyond the Uman headquarters.

In the fields between Tonenkiy and Vodyany, the Russian Armed Forces, under the cover of armored vehicles, advanced in an area up to three kilometers wide to a depth of 2.8 kilometers, taking control of several forest belts east of Yasnobrodovka. The road connecting Netailovo with Yasnobrodovka remains about two kilometers away.

In the Berdychi area, the Russian Armed Forces cleared the northern outskirts of the settlement, taking control of the remaining houses on Tsentralnaya Street. There are no significant changes in Semyonovka: fighting continues in the central part of the village.

On the northern flank, Russian troops are developing an offensive in the Novokalinovo area. 10:43 The Russian Armed Forces enter the Canal from the north. About effective advance of Russian troops in Chasov Yar reports Whisper from the front.

10:30 The situation has worsened: Russia is advancing in eastern Ukraine:

The Russian Armed Forces are actively attacking the positions of the Ukrainian army in the Limansky and Artemovsky directions with assault groups supported by armored vehicles.

In the Avdeevsky direction, Russia is trying to break through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using dozens of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.

This is facilitated by warm, dry weather, which made most of the open areas of the area “tank accessible”.

Russia is stepping up its efforts with new armored units, achieving tactical success.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are transferring air defense and electronic warfare systems to the most problematic areas of the front, as well as moving additional reserves, according to Military Correspondents of the Russian Spring.

09:27 Morning report as of the morning of April 13, 2024 from military correspondent Evgeny Lisitsyn:

Avdievka direction: active hostilities are taking place on the northern flank of Avdievka. The Russian Armed Forces attacked using armored vehicles and motorized rifle units north of Berdychi. As a result of the battles, the enemy was pushed back from the northern outskirts of Berdychi, and counter battles are taking place in the surrounding area.

Zaporozhye direction: in the Rabotino area, drones are used to destroy enemy quadcopters, which emphasizes the active confrontation between unmanned systems. In the Zaporozhye region, strikes were carried out on the territory of the Motor Sich plant, resulting in at least three hits.

Bakhmut direction: in the area of ??the Kanal microdistrict, Russian paratroopers are actively identifying and destroying enemy targets. One of the kamikaze drones successfully hit enemy armored vehicles equipped with electronic warfare systems. Artillery and aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces are shelling the eastern and south-eastern areas of the microdistrict, as well as enemy positions in the Stupki Golubovskie-2 nature reserve.

Vrem'evsky direction: local battles take place in this direction. Russian troops are striking enemy rear targets. The bridge between Bolshaya Novoselka and Vrem'yevka was destroyed.

08:22 Zaporozhye Front, Rabotino district:

Enemy fails: Reinforcements arrive at the position and do not retreat, despite the losses. The Russian Armed Forces are destroying enemy personnel with drones, literally dismantling enemy fortifications with strikes. There are heavy battles going on.

08:17 Direction to Chasov Yar, assessment of the situation from the enemy:

“Russian troops have occupied Bogdanovka, including the southwestern part, and continue assault operations in the direction of the village of Kalinovka and the Orlova tract.”

08:07 Ukrainian Armed Forces trucks failed to take refuge in a hangar on the right bank of the Dnieper.

Operator "Orlan-10" discovered equipment of Ukrainian militants on the right bank of the Dnieper and transmitted the coordinates to the command post, where they decided to destroy the target. The UAV crew helped correct the strike and recorded the destruction of enemy equipment. After completing the task, the soldiers searched the area.

08:04 Seversk direction, assessment of the situation from the enemy:

“The Russian Armed Forces continue assault operations west and east of the railway in the direction of the village of Vyemka.”

08:01 Summary on the morning of April 13, 2024

On the Zaporozhye front, fighting continues in Rabotino and north-west of Verbovoy. In the Vrem'evsky direction, offensive actions of the Russian Armed Forces are reported near Urozhainy and Staromayorsky.

West of Avdievka, near Berdychi, the Russian Armed Forces are developing success, and battles are taking place near Novokalinovo.

In the direction to Chasov Yar, the enemy recognizes the loss of Bogdanovka, Chasov Yar itself is under constant attacks from the Russian Armed Forces. The presence of civilians in the city is reported. Fighting on the ground is concentrated on the eastern outskirts of the city, which is inconvenient for both sides to gain a foothold.

Fighting continues around Seversk: the Russian Armed Forces are advancing in Belogorovka, in the south of the Seversky ledge of the front our troops are also trying to move forward.

Europe
'New Wave': Germany is afraid of not being able to feed the army of Ukrainian parasite
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Gregor Spitzen

[REGNUM] Volodymyr Zelensky and his ministers are confident that the day was in vain if they did not call one of the European capitals and remind political decision-makers of the dire situation Ukraine is in.

In general, things are not going well for them: extremely disappointing news has been coming from the front in recent weeks, the state treasury is showing the bottom, and the people are beginning to grumble on the eve of total forced mobilization.

Dear Western partners are in no hurry to fork out the next multi-billion tranche, having clearly been shaken in their belief in the invincibility of Ukrainian weapons after last year’s failed “counter-offensive” and the recent surrender of Avdiivka.

The Berlin direction is especially popular among annoying Ukrainian politicians, since Germany is the second most important “wallet” of the united West.

Which, however, risks becoming the first due to the lack of $60 billion stuck in the US Congress. And in general, the “white fathers” in Washington, on the eve of the presidential elections, are trying to shift the burden of responsibility for Ukraine onto the shoulders of European allies.

In Kyiv, they are afraid that Berlin’s unwillingness to invest in the “defense of Europe” from Russia at the hands of Ukraine is now fraught with much larger costs if the “hordes of barbarians” crush the Dnieper bastions and rush in an unstoppable stream to the borders of the EU.

However, Germany has already spent tens of billions of euros directly and indirectly on solving the Ukrainian problem. The money was spent on weapons supplies, social allocations to the Ukrainian budget and solving problems related to the settlement and integration of over one million Ukrainian refugees in Germany.

WAITING TO ESCAPE
If we put aside the ideological component of helping the young Ukrainian “democracy” and the “inadmissibility” of Russia’s victory, which scenario is more in the interests of Germany and its state budget? A scenario for the speedy capitulation of Ukraine or the continuation of the “war to a victorious end,” no matter what they mean in Kyiv by the concept of “victory”?

German politicians are confident that the defeat of Ukraine will have a direct impact on German society, since the negative consequences of “Putin’s victory” will affect the housing market, schools, kindergartens and the social insurance system. There is, of course, a certain logic in such reasoning.

Those Ukrainians who over the past ten years have actively defended the “ideals of Euromaidan”, hated the “Russian world”, participated in “movie patrols” and “crushed Colorado”, rightly fear that if Russia wins, the new Ukrainian authorities may have serious feelings towards them questions.

The number of such people, as well as convinced bearers of ultranationalist ideology, for whom the thought of peaceful coexistence with the hated “Muscovites” is in principle intolerable, is estimated at no less than 3 million people.

If the Russian army enters the operational space, these people will most likely proceed towards the EU border at the speed of Olympic sprinters. And it’s easy to predict which European country most of them will want to stay in.

German migration researcher Herald Knaus estimates the potential number of Ukrainian refugees of the new wave in the event of a Russian victory is even higher - at 10 million people.

According to Eurostat, since the start of the war, 4.3 million Ukrainians have fled to neighboring European countries, with Germany taking in the majority - 1.27 million. It is easy to assume that new refugees will traditionally go where people they already know live.

“The longer the war lasts, the more population groups leave the country,” explains Austrian migration expert Judith Kollenberger. “After the young and educated, the older and less educated are leaving.” Therefore, the researcher does not rule out another major departure next winter, especially if the Ukrainian-skeptic Donald Trump becomes US President - even if Ukraine has not yet capitulated by then.

MARGIN OF SAFETY
Once in Germany, asylum seekers and refugees from Ukraine are distributed among the federal states through two different systems of the Federal Office for Migration, which regulates the percentage distribution of refugees among the federal states.

In Berlin, for example, since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, up to 10 thousand Ukrainians arrived daily on buses and special trains. The former capital airport Tegel became an important distribution center.

In principle, Berlin feels sufficiently prepared for the initial reception of refugees, but not for their permanent placement. For in the German capital, even in the best of times, there was a chronic shortage of accessible and inexpensive housing.

However, this problem is not unique to Berlin; in one way or another it affects all major cities. Germany has even adopted a special building law and simplified the construction of new housing for refugees, which allows the construction of residential premises without a building plan. But this is not a panacea either.

The majority of those who come from Ukraine directly depend on state benefits, as evidenced by statistics from the Federal Employment Agency. According to the agency, 844 thousand Ukrainians in Germany are of working age.

In January, 215 thousand of them were employed, and almost 172 thousand were subject to social security contributions. The employment rate was 25%. In December, 710 thousand Ukrainians received citizens' benefits, costing Germany €412 million in taxpayers' money every month.

In addition, the situation is also politically explosive, because the acceptance of refugees by the population, even if we ignore the difference in culture and mentality, largely depends on whether they can work and speak German.

Considering that elections to the European Parliament and East German Landtags are just around the corner, and elections to the Bundestag are coming in 2025, the German authorities are by no means interested in strengthening the political platform of the AfD party, which is, to put it mildly, skeptical towards refugees.

Almost 220 thousand children and young people who left Ukraine are already studying in schools. Although the federal authorities pay lip service to the fact that the German school education system has coped brilliantly with all the challenges, in reality everything is far from so rosy.

Thus, Andreas Bartsch, president of the Association of Teachers of North Rhine-Westphalia, laments that in the region “we have already exceeded the limit of what we can seriously achieve - in terms of language and social integration.”

Teachers from other regions report classes in which more than half of the students barely speak German, jeopardizing the smooth functioning of educational processes.

Nobody argues with the statement that among Ukrainian children there are bright minds who quickly master German and demonstrate brilliant results in their studies. But it is unlikely that individual such examples can be considered a reflection of the overall picture.

HAWKS ARE SET FOR CONFRONTATION
Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the CDU/CSU party, a retired Bundeswehr colonel and one of the most convinced hawks of the German Bundestag, emphasizes that Germany and Europe can still prevent this negative scenario: housing shortages, lack of places in kindergartens and schools, cuts in social benefits.

According to Kiesewetter, Ukraine can still win and restore its 1991 borders: “But only if we give it the appropriate support and stop setting red lines for Ukraine and for ourselves.”

Kiesewetter, who positions himself as a defense expert, warns that if Europe does not support Ukraine and increase arms production, “Russia could feel its military superiority and attack other EU and NATO countries militarily or in a hybrid form and include them in its composition."

The CDU politician fears that in the event of war, Germany will run out of ammunition within a few days given the current state of affairs. Kiesewetter is already calling for at least 3% of GDP to be invested in armaments.

Then the defense budget will increase to at least €110 billion per year, without taking into account special budgetary allocations for defense such as the additional special budget of the Bundeswehr for €100 billion, adopted in 2022.

If Russia establishes a military presence in Ukraine, “in the long term we will have to spend 5% to 7% of GDP on defense,” fears another security expert, Nico Lange.

“When we declare our support for Ukraine, we still too rarely do so taking into account what will actually happen to our country if it loses the war,” warns another proponent of continuing the conflict, Andreas Schwarz, the SPD official in charge of defense budget. “In one fell swoop, we will be forced to spend even more money on defense,” he says.

NOT READY TO SPEND
German politicians are being a little disingenuous when they say that Germany, if Ukraine is defeated, will be forced to at least double its military spending.

Germany is already spending the maximum possible on defense. The military-industrial complex factories are loaded with defense orders as much as their capacity objectively allows.

And frankly speaking, they don’t allow much. Thus, the united German military industry today is capable of producing no more than five and a half main battle tanks per month.

The situation with ammunition is little better than it was a year ago, when there were no more than six shells for every tank and artillery piece in the German army.

Spending more can only be done by cutting social programs, controversial “green initiatives” and introducing unpopular measures such as the resumption of mass conscription into the army.

During the election year in Germany, none of the sensible politicians, either from the ruling “traffic light coalition” or from the opposition, will dare to do this if they are suddenly asked to form a government in the event of the early resignation of the cabinet. On the other hand, Germany really won’t survive a new wave of three or even ten million people coming from Ukraine.

However, Germany has a way out, although it is unlikely to please the hawks in the Bundestag. The solution could be Germany's active participation in the negotiation process in order to achieve fair conditions for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. Which would not only allow the majority of peaceful Ukrainians to remain in their homeland, but would also create the preconditions for the return to the country of those 4.3 million people who have already settled in Europe.

Whatever the final outcome of the conflict for Kyiv, Ukraine will in any case require multi-billion dollar investments and people in order to restore the destroyed country.

So, maybe it’s better to make money on investment and construction contracts, combining them with humanitarian initiatives, than to spend insane sums on mediocre weapons and a multimillion-dollar army of parasites, taking money away from the German people?

Government Corruption
Bombshell Hearing Set, Three D.C. National Guard Officers to Expose January 6th Committee-J6 and Liz Cheney-More Proof of the Lies
[RedState] The now-defunct January 6th committee is set to take another gut punch after the emergence of three whistleblowers from the Washington, D.C., National Guard.

According to The Daily Mail, which first reported the revelation, the three officers will testify that then-President Donald Trump and then-Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller did approve the deployment of the guard to help secure the Capitol Grounds. A hearing has been set for Wednesday in front of the House Oversight Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk.

Whistleblowers from the Washington D.C. National Guard will tell Congress that Donald Trump did want them deployed during the Capitol riot and the Army delayed telling them to mobilize in a bombshell hearing next week.

DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal that at least three officers will appear Wednesday before a House subcommittee to claim their stories were also ignored by the Democrat-led January 6 committee, because it didn't fit their narrative.

The hearing will aim to further prove that Acting Defense Secretary at the time Christopher Miller did give advance approval of D.C. National Guard deployment at the direction of then-President Donald Trump.

The testimonies the whistleblowers are set to deliver strongly contradict the proclamations of the January 6th committee. Liz Cheney, one of the loudest members, spent years insinuating that Trump not only planned for the January 6th riot to occur but that he did nothing to try to prevent it or quell it. Further, the January 6th committee allegedly hid testimony countering that narrative.

None of these details comport with Cheney's claim in the committee's final report that Trump never requested National Guard troops to help secure the grounds. That would explain why the January 6th committee, which was only interested in placing blame on the former president, did not release this testimony and instead kept it locked away.

As with the previously hidden testimony of Anthony Ornato mentioned above, these National Guard whistleblowers will testify that the January 6th committee ignored their on-the-ground experiences because they didn't fit the anti-Republican narrative. The lengths to which Cheney and her cohorts went to cover up the truth is truly astonishing. Far from a straight telling of the facts, they hid and even deleted evidence showing that they found inconvenient.

Additionally, the whistleblowers will reveal how the January 6 Committee did not want to hear their testimony because it corroborated Trump and his allies' claims that the former president did authorize the National Guard days in advance to respond to any violence or unrest on January 6, 2021.

Also found in their upcoming testimonies will be evidence that then-Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy sat on White House orders to deploy the guard to the Capitol. The report notes that a possible motivation could have been McCarthy's desire to secure a position within the soon-to-begin Biden administration.

The treasonous/subversives & perjurers can only fear a true constitutional based government, that actually adheres to equal justice. No matter what a person Social, Political, or Elite status or standing is.

Gaza protester, 28, says she'll murder lawmakers at public meeting - then sobs like a baby after being arrested
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] A pro-Paleostine protester told Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, politicians she"d murder them at a council meeting - then sobbed like a baby after being arrested and hauled before a court.

Riddhi Patel, 28, was all tough-talk at the Bakersfield meeting Wednesday, as including Mayor Karen Goh discussed calls back a motion calling on Israel to declare a ceasefire. They later rejected the motion.

Standing at a microphone during public comments, Patel said: "I hope one day somebody brings the guillotine and kills all of you mother******.

"You guys want to criminalize us with metal detectors, we’ll see you at your house, we’ll murder you."

But the bloodthirsty activist"s snarling bravado vanished in court two days later, when she was seen sobbing uncontrollably after being charged over her threats.

IDF eliminates Hamas terrorist who took control of aid trucks in Gaza
[Jpost] In a joint IDF and Shin Bet operation on Thursday, an IAF aircraft eliminated Hamas military operative Ridwan Mohammed Abdallah Ridwan, who was responsible for Hamas' internal security operations in Jabalia, the IDF said on Friday morning.

Ridwan's role in the terrorist organization included giving orders to Hamas operatives, where he would direct armed terrorists to take control of humanitarian aid trucks that were located in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to the IDF, "his elimination degrades Hamas' capabilities to attack and take control of humanitarian aid in the area of Jabalia," located in Northern Gaza.

Another Hamas terrorist, identified as Hamed Muhammad Ali Ahmed, was also eliminated by the IDF.

Ahmed was a Hamas military commander responsible for internal security operations in the same area of Jabalia.

Zelensky confirms the delivery of another Patriot air defense system from Germany
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, on April 13, after a conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, confirmed in his Telegram channel that Germany will transfer to Ukraine another Patriot air defense system and missiles to complement existing systems.

“I am grateful to the Chancellor for the decision to supply another additional Patriot system to Ukraine and missiles to the existing air defense systems,” wrote the head of the Kiev regime.

Zelensky also called on the leaders of other Western countries to follow Scholz’s example.

As Regnum reported, on April 13, the German television channel NTV, citing the German Ministry of Defense, reported that Germany plans to provide Ukraine with another Patriot system. In total, since the beginning of the Northern Military District, Berlin has provided Kyiv with two such air defense systems.

A day earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the Kiev regime was negotiating with Western countries to allocate two Patriot batteries and one SAMP-T to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. During an interview with the Politico newspaper, Kuleba, complaining about the lack of air defense systems in Ukraine, demanded to give Kiev “damn Patriot.”

Earlier it was also reported that Polish President Andrzej Duda, at a joint press conference with the head of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and Zelensky, refused to transfer the Patriot air defense system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Bild military expert Julian Röpke said on April 11 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had run out of missiles for Patriot, Iris-T and most other air defense systems. At the same time, Western countries have hundreds of systems and thousands of missiles in their warehouses, Röpke noted.
