Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Under new regime, Syria’s Alawites are evicted from private homes at gunpoint
[IsraelTimes] Um Hassan says she was forced to surrender Damascus home within 24 hours after brother arrested; rights group says thousands of such cases have taken place

Early one evening in late January, 12 masked men stormed the Damascus home of Um Hassan’s family, pointed AK-47 assault rifles in their faces and ordered them to leave.

When they presented ownership documents, the men arrested Um Hassan’s oldest brother and said they could only have him back once they had moved out. The family surrendered the house 24 hours later and picked him up, battered and bruised, from the local General Security Service headquarters, said Um Hassan, giving only her nickname for fear of reprisals.

Her family is part of Syria’s minority Alawite community, an offshoot of the Shiite faith and the sect of former strongman Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
. Their story is not unique.

Since Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa seized power in December, hundreds of Alawites have been forced from their private homes in Damascus by the security forces, according to Syrian officials, Alawite leaders, human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
groups, and 12 people with similar accounts who spoke to Rooters.

"We’re definitely not talking about independent incidents. We are talking about hundreds, if not thousands, of cases of evictions," said Bassam Alahmad, executive director of human rights group Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ).

The mass evictions of Alawites from privately owned homes have not been previously reported.

For more than 50 years, Assad and his father before him crushed any opposition from Syria’s Sunni Moslems, who make up more than 70 percent of the population. Alawites took many of the top positions in government and the military and ran big businesses.

They now accuse supporters of Sharaa, who once ran an al-Qaeda affiliate, of systematically abusing them as payback.

In March, hundreds of Alawites were killed in Syria’s western coastal region, and sectarian violence spread to Damascus in apparent retribution for a bushwhack on Syria’s new security forces by armed Assad loyalists.

Two government officials said thousands of people had been kicked out of homes in Damascus since Assad was toppled by Sharaa’s rebel force, with the majority being Alawites.

The officials said most resided in government housing associated with their jobs in state institutions, and, since they were no longer employed, they had lost their right to stay.

But hundreds more, like Um Hassan, were evicted from their privately owned homes simply because they are Alawites, Rooters interviews with multiple officials and victims show.

Syria’s Interior Ministry, which oversees the GSS, and Sharaa’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

’WAR SPOILS COMMITTEE’
Sharaa has vowed to pursue inclusive policies to unite a country shattered by a 14-year sectarian civil war and attract foreign investment and aid.

But Alawites fear the evictions are part of systematic sectarian score settling by Syria’s new rulers.

An official who declined to be named at the Damascus Countryside Directorate, which is responsible for managing public services, said they had received hundreds of complaints from people who had been violent mostly peacefully evicted.

An Alawite mayor in a Damascus suburb, who also asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, said in March that 250 families out of 2,000 there had been evicted.

The mayor shared with Rooters a call recorded in March with someone claiming to be a member of the General Security Service (GSS), a new agency made up of rebel fighters who ousted Assad.

The GSS official demanded that the mayor find an empty house for a family relocating from the north. When the mayor said there were no apartments for rent, the official told him to "empty one of those houses that belong to one of those pigs," referring to Alawites.

Moslems consider pigs unclean and impure, and calling someone a pig is highly offensive.

According to three senior GSS officials, the new authorities have established two committees to manage properties belonging to individuals perceived to be connected to the previous regime. One committee is responsible for confiscations, the other addresses complaints, the people said.

Rooters was unable to determine to what extent Sharaa was aware of how homeowners were being evicted, or whether his office had oversight of the committees.

They were created as Sharaa’s forces closed in on Damascus in December and were modelled on a similar entity known as the "War Spoils Committee" in his former stronghold, Idlib, the GSS sources said.

"These evictions will certainly change the demographics of the city, similar to the changes that Assad implemented against his opponents in Sunni areas. We are talking about the same practice, but with different victims," said Alahmad at STJ.

On April 16, STJ filed a complaint with the Damascus Suburbs Directorate, calling for an end to "sectarian-motivated" property violations and the return of looted properties.

TWO MINUTES TO LEAVE
Assad’s father Hafez al-Assad moved Alawites from coastal areas to urban centers to help cement his power base.

Assad set up military installations and housing units for troops and their families around Damascus, where Alawites, who were over-represented in the army, made up a significant portion of the population, according to Fabrice Balanche, a Syria expert and an associate professor at the University of Lyon 2.

Balanche estimated that half a million Alawites have moved to coastal areas after being evicted from the capital, Homs, Aleppo, and other parts of Syria following Assad’s fall.

In the Alawite neighbourhood of Dahyet al-Assad, civil servant and mother of four Um Hussein said two armed masked men came to her privately owned home on January 16 and identified themselves as GSS members.

The newly created GSS deployed by Sharaa seems to be an extension of the security force that ruled Idlib province, said Syria expert Joshua Landis, head of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma.

The GSS now seems to be the police, FBI, CIA, and national guard, all rolled into one, he said.

Um Hussein said the men gave her 24 hours’ grace to leave, because of her son’s dependence on a wheelchair. She appealed to numerous government bodies to keep her home, and received some assurances.

The next day at about 10 a.m., the men returned and gave her two minutes to leave. Um Hussein said they also confiscated a shop her family owned in the neighbourhood and were renting out.

"We have been living in this house for more than 22 years. All our money and savings have been invested in it. We cannot afford to rent elsewhere," said Um Hussein.

Rooters spoke with two members of the security forces at the private homes they had occupied. One had seized two houses — including Um Hussein’s — after evicting the owners.

Hamid Mohammed, meanwhile, said his unit had taken over four empty homes belonging to Shabiha, a notorious pro-Assad militia.

He said the security forces had not seized anything that wasn’t theirs and recalled angrily that his home in a Damascus suburb was destroyed during the civil war. Mohammed said he moved to the capital after Assad’s fall and had nowhere else to stay.

’TRANSITIONAL INJUSTICE’
On February 12, the Damascus governor called on citizens who say property has been unjustly confiscated to submit complaints at directorates.

bottom-color:gray;' title='Reuters'>Rooters visited one in March, where the official, who declined to be named, confirmed a pattern: armed individuals evicted people without a court order, prevented them from taking their belongings, and then moved in.

The majority of confiscations targeted low- to middle-income Syrians who had lost their jobs and lacked the resources to pay their way out of the situation, the sources said.

Another official in another Damascus directorate said the evictions happened overnight without due process.

"It’s chaotic, but there is a method to the madness, which is to terrify people and to let the whole world know that Alawites are no longer (in power)," said Landis. "There is no transitional justice. There’s only transitional injustice."

Seven gunnies came to Rafaa Mahmoud’s apartment on February 20 and threatened to kill her and her Alawite family unless she handed over the keys to the property they had bought 15 years earlier, she said.

Mahmoud shared a 2-minute 27-second video with Rooters showing her standing behind her door, desperately arguing with the men, who warned the family to leave by nightfall.

The men, who identified themselves as state security agents, called Mahmoud and her family "infidels and pigs."

When Mahmoud asked for a court order, the men replied: "We only do things verbally here."

Two reservists wounded, one seriously, in West Bank roadside bomb attack
[IsraelTimes] Israeli forces encircle town near Nablus where soldiers were struck by explosive while carrying out routine patrol; IDF arrests Palestinian journalist for alleged Islamic Jihad ties

Two IDF reservists were maimed, one of them seriously, in a roadside kaboom on Wednesday near the northern West Bank town of Beita, close to Nablus, the military announced.

The soldiers of the Ephraim Regional Brigade’s 9221st Reserve Battalion were carrying out a routine patrol in Beita when they were hit by an explosive.

Both soldiers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops encircled the town and were operating in the area to locate the assailants behind the attack.

Earlier Wednesday, the military announced the arrest of Ali Samoudi, a well-known journalist, in an overnight raid in Jenin in the northern West Bank. Samoudi previously worked for international outlets including CNN

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Official: Lebanese army has dismantled over 90% of Hezbollah infrastructure near border
[IsraelTimes] Iran-backed terror group has withdrawn north of the Litani River without fight, security official claims, as President Aoun says full deployment hindered by IDF control of 5 posts

The Lebanese army has dismantled "over 90 percent" of Hezbollah’s infrastructure near the border with Israel since a November ceasefire, a security official said Wednesday.

"We have dismantled over 90% of the infrastructure in the area south of the Litani," the official, who requested anonymity as the matter is sensitive, told AFP.

In accordance with the truce deal brokered between Israel and Leb

in November, the Lebanese army is required to dismantle all unauthorized military facilities and confiscate all arms, starting in areas south of the Litani River, located some 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Israeli border.

To that end, the official said much of the Iran-backed terror group’s robust underground infrastructure in the south had been "filled and closed" by the army.

They added that soldiers had also reinforced their control of crossing points into the area south of the Litani "to prevent the transfer of weapons from the north of the river to the south."

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, meanwhile, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia that the army was now in control of over 85% of the country’s south.

Aoun, on a visit to the United Arab Emirates, said the Lebanese army was "fulfilling its role without any problems or opposition," and charged that the single obstacle to the full deployment of soldiers across the border area was "Israel’s occupation of five border positions."

While Israeli forces withdrew from almost all areas in southern Lebanon following the start of the ceasefire, troops have remained deployed at five key points.

Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed last month that the troops would remain stationed at these locations, deemed strategically important for Israel’s safety, "indefinitely."

With regard to Hezbollah, which was also required to withdraw from southern Lebanon under the terms of the deal, the security official told AFP that the terror group had been cooperating with the army.

"Hezbollah withdrew and said ’do whatever you want’... there is no longer a military [infrastructure] for Hezbollah south of the Litani," the official said.

The official added that most of the munitions found by the army were either "damaged" by Israeli bombing or "in such bad shape that it is impossible to stock them," prompting the army to detonate them.

The US-brokered ceasefire has largely halted more than a year of hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border, and some two months of all-out war in southern Lebanon.

Hostilities were initiated by Hezbollah on October 8, 2023, in support of Paleostinian ally Hamas

Aoun: Decision of removing arms to be implemented across Lebanon but priority for South
[AnNahar] President Joseph Aoun has stressed that “the decision of removing arms will be implemented across Lebanon but the priority is for the South.”

“We’re in agreement with Speaker (Nabih) Berri over the issue of Hezbollah’s arms,” Aoun added, in an interview with Sky News Arabia broadcast as he departed to the UAE on an official visit.

“The decision has been taken as to limiting weapons (to the hands of the state) and only implementation on the ground remains,” the president said, adding that “what’s important is the handover of heavy- and medium-caliber weapons, whereas light-caliber weapons are a culture for the Lebanese.”

Noting that the army is “performing its duties without any objections or problems,” Aoun dismissed as baseless the reports that claimed that Hezbollah had refused the army’s entry into a Dahieh site to search it.

Calling for opening “the file of arms inside Palestinian camps,” the president stressed that “it is necessary to build the army’s capabilities,” adding that “the most important weapon is the unified stance behind the army.”

Report: Army entered over 500 Hezbollah posts in Dahieh and south and north of Litani
[AnNahar] The Lebanese Army has so far raided more than 500 Hezbollah posts south and north of the Litani River and in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanese governmental sources told Al-Arabiya’s Al-Hadath channel.

The Kfarshima Municipality meanwhile denied an Al-Jadeed TV report that quoted U.S. sources as saying that the army had entered into Hezbollah depots in Kfarshima, which lies near Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Hezbollah “has no depots in Kfarshima for the Lebanese Army to enter into them,” the Municipality added.

Arson suspect arrested in E. Jerusalem as authorities probe whether massive fires were started on purpose

[IsraelTimes] Police apprehend East Jerusalem man with lighter, cotton wool, flammable materials; right-wing officials urge West Bank lockdown amid Palestinian social media calls to start blazes

An arson suspect was arrested Wednesday, as authorities were probing whether major brush fires west of Jerusalem were started intentionally and as calls appeared on Paleostinian social media to start more blazes. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
authorities said Wednesday evening it was too early to determine the cause of the fires.

A 50-year-old resident of East Jerusalem’s Umm Tuba neighborhood was arrested on suspicion of attempting to set fire to vegetation in southern Jerusalem, police said.

Law enforcement carried out the arrest after receiving a tip that someone had seen a person attempting to start a fire, a police front man said. The suspect was detained for questioning at the Oz cop shoppe in East Jerusalem.

Police said the suspect attempted to flee from coppers but was nabbed after a brief pursuit. Cops said they found a lighter, cotton wool and other flammable materials on his person.

The arrest coincided with calls made by Paleostinians on social media to carry out arson attacks on Israel during the country’s Independence Day, whose eve coincided this year with a heatwave combined with strong winds that caused the blazes to spiral out of control and resulted in many communities being evacuated and many festive events being called off.

One message on the Paleostinian channel Shehab, which is affiliated with Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
, said: "There are popular calls to set fire to forests near the settlements." Hamas considers all Jewish communities in Israel and the West Bank, both within and beyond the Green Line, to be settlements.

Another message circulated on X across several accounts stated: "Your role is to set fire to gardens, vehicles and everything around the settlements."

Responding to the incitement on social media, Zvi Sukkot, a far-right politician from the Religious Zionism party, sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calling on him to order that a curfew and lockdown be imposed on Paleostinian villages in the West Bank.

"There is a real concern, based on past experience, that Paleostinians will try to ignite more fires in Judea and Samaria and throughout Israel... To prevent such occurrences, a curfew must be imposed immediately on Judea and Samaria, and a blockade must be imposed on the Paleostinian villages," Sukkot wrote, using the West Bank’s biblical name.

Similar calls were issued by settler leader Yossi Dagan, the head of the Samaria Regional Council, and by Likud MK Dan Illouz.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu was receiving updates and conducting assessments of the firefighting efforts and speaking regularly with National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and firefighting and security officials.

The Shin Bet domestic security agency, which is typically tasked with counterterrorism efforts, said in a statement that it was also taking part in the investigation.

International-UN-NGOs
At World Court hearing, US backs Israel’s right to ban UNRWA from Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Legal adviser to administration argues international law gives Israel the right to decide which organizations run relief operations in Strip

Israel cannot be forced to allow the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Paleostinian refugee agency, UNRWA, to operate in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, the United States argued Wednesday at an International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearing in The Hague.

Israel last year passed a law that banned UNRWA from operating in the country, as it said the organization had employed members of Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
who took part in the October 7, 2023, onslaught, among a series of other accusations including that the organization runs schools that incite to terrorism and perpetuates Paleostinians’ refugee status by passing it by generation unlike the rest of the world’s refugees.

The ban officially came into effect in late January, prohibiting the agency from operating on Israeli soil and forbidding contact between it and Israeli officials.

Despite the ban, The Times of Israel reported in early April that, according to Paleostinian sources and UNRWA itself, the agency was still operating in East Jerusalem almost entirely uninterrupted. Additionally, the legislation was seen as having had little effect on UNRWA operations in other areas where Israeli cooperation was required.

The UN said in August 2024 that nine UNRWA staff members may have been involved in the devastating Hamas assault and had been fired. Another Hamas commander, confirmed by UNRWA as one of its employees, was killed in Gaza last October, according to Israel.

The UN General Assembly in December 2024 asked the agency’s top court to give an advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations to facilitate aid to Paleostinians that is delivered by states and international groups, including the UN.

The ICJ, also known as the World Court, on Monday opened a week of hearings on Israel’s humanitarian obligations toward the Paleostinians, more than 50 days into its blockade on aid entering war-ravaged Gaza, which is aimed at pressuring Hamas to release the 59 hostages it is holding, 24 of whom are believed alive.

On the third day of hearings on the matter, the US said Israel had the right to determine which organizations could provide basic needs to the population of Gaza and the West Bank.

"An occupational power retains a margin of appreciation concerning which relief schemes to permit," US State Department legal adviser Joshua Simmons said.

"Even if an organization offering relief is an impartial humanitarian organization, and even if it is a major actor, occupation law does not compel an occupational power to allow and facilitate that specific actor’s relief operations."

Simmons also stressed the "serious concerns" Israel has about UNRWA’s impartiality.

UN and Paleostinian representatives at the opening of hearings on Monday had accused Israel of breaking international law by refusing to let aid into Gaza.

Since March 2, Israel has completely cut off all supplies to the 2.3 million residents of the Gaza Strip, and food stockpiled during a ceasefire at the start of the year has all but run out.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said in Jerusalem on Monday that Israel had submitted its position in writing to the hearings, which he described as a "circus."

Israel was absent from the hearing, which included scheduled participation from 40 countries and four international organizations.

The court will likely take months to rule. Experts say the decision, though not legally binding, could profoundly impact international jurisprudence and public opinion.

Yale University economics professor sparks outrage by proposing mass suicide and disembowelment of elderly people in Japan to deal with the country's rapidly aging society
[MAIL] A Yale University professor has sparked outrage by suggesting the only way to deal with Japan's rapidly aging population is a mass suicide and disembowelment.

Yusuke Narita, an assistant professor of economics at Yale, defended his views in a New York Times profile this weekend after he made the remarks on a streaming news program in 2021.

'I feel like the only solution is pretty clear,' he said at the time. 'In the end, isn't it mass suicide and mass 'seppuku' of the elderly?'

Seppuku was a ritual disembowelment that was forced upon samurai who had brought dishonor to themselves in 19th century Japan.

The slaying of the innocent, not just limited to the unborn.

Well, THAT Didn't Take Long: California Noncitizen Police Officer Charged With Rape
[OffThePress] The I-Team has learned that the Belmont police officer arrested for rape last week had an arrest for domestic violence several years ago, before he became an officer.

That’s raising questions about whether he should have been hired at the Belmont Police Department in the first place.

We have new information on his previous arrest and his immigration status. The I-Team confirmed Felipe Gomes is not a U.S. citizen but has a work permit, so he is allowed to serve as a police officer in this state under a recent law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Just four months ago, Belmont Police Chief Ken Stenquist presented his new recruits, including 35-year-old Gomes.

“He was in the Brazilian Air Force and part of their Air Force Police,” Chief Stenquist said. “He was a full-time police soldier and left that position when he moved to the United States. He enjoys practicing jiu jitsu and attending church when he’s not working.”

Last week, Redwood City police arrested Gomes at the Belmont police headquarters on penal code 261 (a) (1).

Tell us what you REALLY Think! Woman at Islam Event Tears Off Her Hijab, Starting Her Political Campaign
[WesternJournal] Influencer Valentina Gomez probably won’t be asked to attend next year’s Texas Muslim Capitol Day.

On Tuesday, Raw Story reported that Gomez attended this year’s event, and she posted footage to social media platform X of herself taking to the podium while ripping of a hijab and addressing a crowd of Muslims.

Gomez included the caption, “Islam has no place in Texas. Help me to Congress so we can end the Islamization of America. I only fear God.”

Speaking into the microphone, Gomez unleashed on the crowd, telling them that “Islam is the religion of rape, incest, and pedophilia where they bow down to a stupid rock and a false prophet.”

“I will never let Sharia Law take over Texas,” Gomez said, still able to be heard despite event organizers trying to stop her.

“This is a Christian nation. There’s 57 Muslim nations,” she said over loud boos shortly before being escorted away.

As she walked away, one man could be heard telling her, “Go back in your cage, dog,” to which Gomez replied, “Go back to your Muslim nation.”

According to the TMCD website, the day aimed to be an event that “brings together hundreds of Texas Muslims at the State Capitol in Austin.”

“The day features meetings with elected officials, a rally in front of the Capitol, and a congregational prayer,” the website added. “Organized in collaboration with Texas Muslim organizations, Islamic centers, and community groups, TMCD empowers Muslims to become more civically engaged and amplify their voices in the legislative process.”

Needless to say, Gomez’s actions were bold.

With the Quran instructing Muslims to inflict punishment and death on infidels, Gomez is putting herself at risk by making the statements she did.

Leftism Is a Death Cult That Embraces Terrorism
[RedState] I have often made a distinction between liberals and leftists, and will continue to do so.

One of my most pleasant conversations at the CNN event in Washington was with a former Biden official (lower-level) who was your old-style liberal. He wasn't angry. He didn't hate conservatives--a rarity these days, I admit--and as far as I could tell, was just as committed to making our country and the world better for everyone as I am.

We disagreed on means, not ends. I genuinely like talking to such people, and know that there are many more of them than you would think if you spend too much time on social media or paying attention to politics.

Leftists, though, make no bones about hating people with whom they have disagreements. It is their thing, going back to the birth of the modern Left in the French Revolution. Leftism traipses from one bloody revolution to the next, reveling in the bloodshed as a cleansing ritual.

Symbolic of this bloodlust, the Left valorizes men like Che Guevara, who oversaw a concentration camp and the liquidation of people he considered enemies of the Revolution.

Mass Immigration Without Assimilation Is A Recipe For National Suicide
[Federalist] If we don’t insist on the total assimilation and Americanization of our immigrants, we’ll cease to be America and become something else.

If you want to know what mass immigration without assimilation produces in a country, look no further than Scotland. Immigrants from Pakistan now constitute an ethno-religious voting bloc in that country with their very own politicians advocating for nakedly sectarian interests.

Recently, a video clip from 2022 resurfaced on social media of Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar standing in front of the flag of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan claiming that "change is coming" and forthrightly calling for ethnic and Muslim sectarianism in Scottish politics. Sarwar doesn’t mince words: He wants his people to take control of every level of government in Scotland.

Workless 'Lost Generation' Suffering Mental Health Issues
[Zero] The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) is warning of a workless "lost generation," caused partly by the number of young people suffering from poor mental health.

The body is calling for immediate government action which it says is needed to help young people from generation Z, generally defined as those born between 1997—2012, to enter the workplace or education.

Its report, "Creating Job Opportunities for Gen Z," released on Monday, follows research published last week which found the number of young people claiming benefits owing to poor mental health or neurodiverse conditions such as autism and ADHD was not economically "sustainable."

’Double Whammy’
Shevaun Haviland, director general of the BCC, said:   "The UK’s active workforce is rapidly ageing, while the number of young people who are not in employment, education or training is at its highest level for a decade.

"Generation Z face a double whammy of increasing barriers to entering the workforce, and reducing opportunities as the number of vacancies continues to fall.

"But research shows the longer we leave this pool of talent to drift away from the workplace the harder it becomes for them to engage."

The BCC, which represents a large number of smaller businesses, is calling on the government to spend more on mental health support and further education and for a more "collaborative approach" across the various Whitehall departments.

’Rise of Anxiety’
Last week’s report from the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) pointed to soaring numbers of people reporting poor mental health and claiming benefits since the COVID-19 lockdown era.

"One clear trend is the rise of anxiety particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from the Annual Population Survey show that prior to the pandemic, self-reported levels of anxiety in the population were relatively stable. Since 2019, however, the number of people reporting high levels of anxiety has surged and remained high, with 23 per cent of working-age adults reporting ’poor anxiety’ in 2023," authors for the former prime minister’s organisation wrote.

Mental health conditions are now the most commonly reason cited by people across all age groups who are out of work owing to long-term sickness, the report by the TBI notes.

"The reasons behind this shift remain unclear. It may reflect a rise in true prevalence, but other factors could also be at play — such as distorted financial incentives within the system, overdiagnosis or changing public attitudes and awareness around mental health.

"Whatever the cause, one thing is clear: the current trajectory is unsustainable," the authors concluded.

The study highlights a 168 percent reported increase in depression, anxiety, and stress among those aged 16—24 in the two decades ending in 2019, with a 42 percent rise seen across all age groups.

It also notes a doubling in the prescribing of ADHD medication since 2018—2019, with the younger age group the main driver behind this increase.

Walz says Harris picked him for VP to 'code talk to White guys'
[FOX] Former vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., continued a self-described "listening tour" across the country at a Harvard Kennedy School forum on Monday night, ruling out a 2028 presidential bid and revealing why former Vice President Kamala Harris chose him as her running mate.

Walz said Harris chose him, in part, because, "I could code talk to White guys watching football, fixing their truck" and "put them at ease." The Minnesota governor described himself as the "permission structure" for White men from rural America to vote for Democrats.

"I think I'll give you pretty good stuff, but I'll also give you 10% problematic," Walz added when pushed by moderator Brittany Shepherd, ABC News national political reporter, about why he didn't take that message to cable news to reach a larger audience. Walz laughed off criticism over inconsistencies in his background on the 2024 campaign trail, describing himself as a "knucklehead."

Walz told CNN's Jake Tapper earlier this month that he was considering a third bid for Minnesota governor but was not thinking about running for president in 2028. When asked by Shepherd to explain, Walz said the Democratic Party should run a collective 2028 presidential campaign.

It is a social construct theory in movie previews, hiring actors to chortle or gasp whatever during certain scenes so that the critics, if not join in, can at least use those prompts as to what corporate wants the advertising message to be. DNI GABBARD: Biden Admin Admitted 600 Illegal Aliens with Ties to Terrorists
[Breitbart] Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard reported that nearly 600 individuals with ties to terrorism were allowed to enter the United States under the Biden administration. The individuals were “paroled” into the U.S. by the Biden administration after they illegally entered the U.S.

DNI Gabbard told President Donald Trump during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that her office identified 700 “alien terrorists” who have ties to MS-13, Tren de Aragua, and the Sinaloa cartel. President Trump designated these cartels and transnational criminal gangs as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.

Gabbard said the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) “identified almost 600 individuals with ties to other terrorists who came through our borders illegally, claimed asylum, and, under the Biden administration, paroled here within our borders.”

The director said her agency is working with the Attorney General and the NCTC to prioritize its focus on finding these potential terrorists and gang members. She pledged to find those “who are already here in our country because of the Biden administration’s four years of open borders.”

Her agency is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to identify the cartels that were designated as foreign terrorists by the president and stop them at the border. She said the agency is turning over names to the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI “to be able to find those who are already in our country.”

Breitbart Texas reported extensively on illegal aliens who were on the Terrorist Watch List and other aliens with known or suspected ties to terrorists who the Biden administration released into the U.S.

In December 2024, the Biden administration released a suspected terrorist into the United States after being warned by Texas law enforcement officials of the terrorist connection, Breitbart Texas reported.

Breitbart’s Randy Clark wrote:

Under the Biden-Harris administration, the number of migrants arrested attempting to enter the United States illegally at the southwest border who appeared in the Terror Screening Database skyrocketed. During the four fiscal years of the Trump administration (FY 17 through FY 20), agents apprehended only 14 migrants appearing in the national security database, compared to the more than 385 terror watch list migrants encountered since fiscal year 2021

In September 2024, Breitbart’s John Binder wrote:

From Fiscal Year 2021 through July 2024, Biden and Harris have watched as record levels of illegal immigrants have poured across the southern border — including a record number of illegal aliens on the Terrorist Watch List.

During this less-than-four-year period, almost 400 illegal aliens on the Terrorist Watch List have attempted to cross the border between Ports of Entry. For comparison, from 2012 to 2017, about 100 illegal aliens on the Terrorist Watch List were caught crossing the border.

At the same time, a bombshell interim staff report from the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement reveals that since the start of 2021, the Biden-Harris administration has released at least 99 illegal aliens on the Terrorist Watch List into the U.S. interior.

The report states:

So far during fiscal year 2024, Border Patrol has encountered tens of thousands of illegal aliens nationwide from countries that could present national security risks, including 2,134 Afghan nationals, 33,347 Chinese nationals, 541 Iranian nationals, 520 Syrian nationals, and 3,104 Uzbek nationals.

More information on known or potential foreign terrorists released into the U.S. can be found here.

We Might End Harvard Grants Entirely, They Don't 'Really Need It' and Teach Remedial Math
[Breitbart] During an interview with NewsNation on Wednesday, President Donald Trump stated that there may be a permanent end to Harvard getting billions from the government and “We can grant that money to people that really need it,” and cited issues with foreign students and Harvard offering remedial math while also stating that “if we’re going to give grant money, we want people in that school that are going to love our country, not people that are going to hate our country.”

Trump said, “Harvard gets four or five billion dollars a year from the United States government in the form of grants, and they have $53 billion. And yet they don’t treat the people right. They take foreign students, nobody knows where they come from. And they viciously hate our country. And I’m saying if we’re going to give grant money, we want people in that school that are going to love our country, not people that are going to hate our country. They run a bad operation up there, and we have to get to the bottom of it.”

He continued, “On top of that, they said they want to teach their students remedial mathematics. That’s basic math, two and two is four. And you say, well, Harvard’s supposed to be so great, why do people have to have remedial, that’s basic, very simple mathematics? So, we’re looking into Harvard. But we give them billions of dollars a year, and that may very well stop. And that’s up to the president, it’s up to our government. We don’t have to grant their money. We can grant that money to people that really need it, and frankly, people that you’d rather have me give the money to, Stephen.”

RAF Typhoons pound Iran-backed Houthis' drone-building facilities with airstrikes in Yemen
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] British forces carried out airstrikes on a Houthi military target in Yemen overnight, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.

The MoD said RAF Typhoons had joined in operation with US forces in targeting the Iran-backed group's drone-making facilities near the capital, Sanaa.

Several Typhoon FGR4s used Paveway IV precision guided bombs on a cluster of buildings used on facilities manufacturing drones like those used to target ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in recent months.

The MoD said 'very careful planning had been completed to allow the targets to be prosecuted with minimal risk to civilians or non-military infrastructure'.

'We conducted these strikes, supported by the US, to degrade Houthi capabilities and prevent further attacks against UK and International shipping,' said Defence Secretary John Healey.

The strikes marked the UK's first involvement with America's new intense campaign targeting the group.

The campaign, called 'Operation Rough Rider,' has been targeting the rebels as the Trump administration negotiates with their main benefactor, Iran, over Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program.

The British offered no information on the damage done in the strike, nor whether it believed anyone had been killed.

The U.S. military's Central Command did not acknowledge the strike.

'The strike was conducted after dark, when the likelihood of any civilians being in the area was reduced yet further,' Britain's defence ministry said.

Mr Healey added that all UK aircraft and personnel involved had also safely returned to base.

'This government will always act in the interests of our national and economic security,' he said.

'Royal Air Force Typhoons have successfully conducted strikes against a Houthi military target in Yemen and all UK aircraft and personnel have returned safely to base.

He stressed that the Houthis' activities in the Red Sea were a 'persistent threat' to 'freedom of navigation'.

'A 55% drop in shipping through the Red Sea has already cost billions, fuelling regional instability and risking economic security for families in the UK,' he said.

'The Government is steadfast in our commitment to reinforcing global stability and protecting British working people.

'I am proud of the dedication and professionalism shown by the service men and women involved in this operation.'

The Houthis claim their actions are in response to Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza - an assertion dismissed by the UK and allies.

Britain has taken part in airstrikes alongside the U.S. since the Biden administration began its campaign of strikes targeting the Houthis back in January 2024.

The U.S. is conducting strikes on Yemen from its two aircraft carriers in the region - the USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea and the USS Carl Vinson in the Arabian Sea.

US forces have struck more than 1,000 targets in Yemen since Washington launched the latest round of its air campaign in mid-March, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

The joint U.K.-U.S. strike follows an alleged a U.S. airstrike on Monday that hit a prison holding African migrants, killing at least 68 people and wounding 47 others.

The U.S. military said it was investigating.

On April 18, an American strike on the Ras Isa fuel port killed at least 74 people and wounded 171 others in the deadliest-known attack of the American campaign.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan warns it has 'credible intelligence' India is planning military attack within next 36 hours as nuclear-armed rivals inch towards war after Kashmir atrocity
[Daily Mail, where America gete its news] Pakistan claims it has 'credible intelligence' that India is preparing to launch a military operation within two days, raising fears of a war between the nuclear-armed neighbours amid escalating tensions in Kashmir.

The statement by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met yesterday with army and security chiefs, giving the military 'complete operational freedom' to respond to the attack, a senior government source said.

Fresh fighting erupted last week in Kashmir - a territory that has been disputed between India and Pakistan since the British partition of India in 1947 - after gunmen killed 26 people.

The shooting, which Indian authorities say was perpetrated by three terrorists, including two Pakistani nationals, targeted Hindu tourists relaxing in the meadows near the town of Pahalgam in Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement early on Wednesday, Islamabad again denied any involvement in the attack, adding that it condemned terrorism in all forms and would respond 'assuredly and decisively' to any Indian military manoeuvres launched 'on the pretext of baseless and concocted allegations of involvement in the Pahalgam incident'.

'Any act of aggression will be met with a decisive response,' said Tarar. 'India will be fully responsible for any serious consequences in the region!'
"Look what you made us do!"
The warning comes after Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told Reuters in an interview earlier this week: 'We have reinforced our forces because (an incursion) is something which is imminent now.'

He added that India's rhetoric was ramping up and that Pakistan's military had briefed the government on the possibility of an Indian attack, though he gave no details as to why he thought an incursion by India's forces was in the offing.

The April 22 assault prompted a flurry of military and diplomatic action as both sides moved to militarise along the 'Line of Control' (LoC) that separates Indian- and Pakistani-administered Kashmir.

India launched naval drills, test-fired several long-range missile systems and suspended a key treaty that ensures India supplies Pakistan with water from the Indus River, a provision that is crucial for Pakistan's water supply and agricultural economy.

The unprecedented abeyance of the treaty on India's part is seen by some analysts as a key factor that could hasten a major conflict.

Dr Manali Kumar – an Indian foreign policy expert and lecturer at the University of St. Gallen, said: 'India's response, moving beyond conventional diplomatic and past kinetic military actions to include the unprecedented suspension of participation in the foundational Indus Waters Treaty... carries immense risks.

'It is perceived by Pakistan as an existential threat – an act of war if water flows are curtailed - drastically increasing the likelihood of military confrontation between two nuclear-armed states.

'This also sets a dangerous precedent for the weaponisation of shared resources, raising alarms among India's other neighbours who will be watching how this develops very carefully.'

Pakistan in turn deployed its air force to close its airspace to Indian airlines and has mobilised its army with footage appearing to show artillery batteries and armoured vehicles on their way to the LoC in anticipation of a major conflict.

India's army today said it had repeatedly traded gunfire with Pakistani troops for a sixth night in a row across the LoC - a heavily fortified zone of high-altitude Himalayan outposts - but with no reported casualties.

Pakistan's military did not confirm the shooting, but state radio in Islamabad reported on Tuesday it had shot down an Indian drone, calling it a violation of its airspace.

In the meantime, several politicians have ramped up threatening rhetoric.

Pakistan's railway minister, Hanif Abbasi, dramatically declared at the weekend that his nation's nuclear arsenal of more than 130 missiles were 'not kept as models' and were reserved 'only for India'.

'These ballistic missiles, all of them are targeted at you,' he concluded in a chilling warning.

The brutal attack that stoked tensions in Kashmir unfolded on a stunning day in the rolling hills a short walk from the town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.

The majority of the dead were Hindu tourists from India, with reports from witnesses and survivors claiming the gunmen, who remain at large, were ordering civilians to recite Islamic prayers and shooting those who were unable to do so.

A Pakistani militant group known as The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility in the wake of the attack, only to rescind the statement days later and blame the initial claim on a communications breach.

India accused Pakistan of supporting 'cross-border terrorism' as authorities concluded the gunmen were Islamic militants and identified two of the three suspected shooters as Pakistani.

Indian foreign policy and defence experts also claimed that the TRF is closely linked with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.

But authorities in Islamabad called attempts to link Pakistan to the attack 'frivolous'.

Netanyahu issues warning as raging wildfires push Israel into crisis
See also here.
[GEO.TV] Thick smoke billowed above highways near Jerusalem as firefighters rushed to control wildfires that have injured several people and prompted the military to deploy troops to help.

Israel's Magen David Adom rescue agency reported that hundreds of civilians were at risk from the worst brushfires in years. It said the alert level had been raised to the highest tier.

A resident said: "It's just very sad because we knew the weather, we kind of knew that would happen and still we feel like they weren't ready enough with the big planes that can drop large amounts of water."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that "the western wind can push the fire easily towards the outskirts of (Jerusalem), and even into the city itself".

"We need to bring as many fire engines as possible and create firebreaks well beyond the current fire lines... We are now in a national emergency, not just a local one. The priority right now is defending Jerusalem," he added in a video statement.

Hegseth sends strong message to Iran and Houthis: 'You will pay'
[FoxNews] Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sent a message to Iran on Wednesday night, warning the country that, because of its "LETHAL" support of the Houthis terrorist organization, they will pay the consequences.

"We see your LETHAL support to The Houthis. We know exactly what you are doing," Hegseth said in a post on X. "You know very well what the U.S. Military is capable of — and you were warned. You will pay the CONSEQUENCE at the time and place of our choosing."

Earlier this week, a Houthi drone forced the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier to make an evasive maneuver, which some believe caused an F-18 fighter jet worth $67 million to fall off the carrier and into the Red Sea.

The move came after 47 straight days of U.S. airstrikes against Houthi targets.

Hegseth then retweeted a Truth Social post by President Donald Trump from March 17.

"Let nobody be fooled! The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN," Trump posted. "Any further attack or retaliation by the ‘Houthis’ will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that the force will stop there.

"Iran has played the ‘innocent victim’ of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control," the president continued. "They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated Military equipment, and even, so-called, ‘Intelligence.’ Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!"

Iran hangs 'high-ranking spy' for Israel
[GEO.TV] Iran on Wednesday executed a man convicted of espionage for Israel's Mossad spy agency and involvement in the 2022 assassination of a Revolutionary Guards colonel, the judiciary said.

Mohsen Langarneshin, described as "a high-ranking spy" who supported Mossad operations inside Iran, was hanged in the morning, the judiciary's Mizan Online news website reported.
The Times of Israel adds:
Mohsen Langarneshin convicted of link to death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officer in 2022, providing support for attack on defense ministry site in Isfahan

An Iranian man convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel was executed on Wednesday, Iranian state media reported, at a time of high-stakes nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

intelligence service and facilitating the latter’s operations in the country, notably liquidations or acts of sabotage meant to undermine its nuclear program.

According to Iran’s judiciary media outlet Mizan, the defendant identified as Mohsen Langarneshin was accused of involvement in several cases, including the death of a Revolutionary Guards colonel in 2022.

"During his two years as a spy... he was responsible for important actions, including supporting terrorist operations and being present at the scene of the liquidation of Sayad Khodai," state media said. It said the defendant also provided operational support for an attack on an industrial center in Isfahan, affiliated with the Iranian Defense Ministry.

The state media reports said Langarneshin had confessed to the charges. Rooters was not able to reach a representative for comment.

Earlier this week, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of seeking to derail Iran-US nuclear talks, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting the idea of a deal merely limiting Tehran’s uranium enrichment and pushing for the full dismantlement of its nuclear infrastructure.

One of the initiators of the legislative initiative, Secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko, announced the registration of the document on Facebook.

"Today, the Verkhovna Rada registered the bill #13229, which I initiated, which will grant the right to citizens aged 60+ to voluntarily sign contracts for military service. This is a response to the demand of society - many motivated and experienced people want to be useful in war conditions, but the current legislation limits them in this," he wrote.

A video is being circulated on social networks in which an unknown man, calling himself a local resident, talks about the alleged removal of documents and property from administrative buildings, which, according to him, indicates that the authorities are preparing to surrender the regional center.

Blue state judge attempts to stop Border Patrol from arresting suspected illegal immigrants without warrant
[FoxNews] Border Patrol argues it changed its procedures, making ruling irrelevant

A California judge on Tuesday demanded Border Patrol agents allow people they think are living in the U.S. illegally to stay in the country, unless authorities have a warrant or reason to believe the person may flee before they can get a warrant.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston ruled on Tuesday that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents in the Eastern District of California cannot stop illegal immigrants without reasonable suspicion, or deport them via "voluntary departure," unless that person is explained their rights and agrees to leave, according to a report from The Associated Press.

Federal judge orders local law enforcement to stop enforcing new immigration law
[FoxNews] Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier earlier sent memo to local police saying judge was legally

A federal judge in Florida said an order that blocks local police from enforcing a new state immigration law applied to all local agencies despite the state’s attorney general stating otherwise in a recent memo.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams told attorneys for the state during a hearing in Miami on Tuesday that she planned to issue a preliminary injunction against a statute that makes it a misdemeanor for undocumented migrants to enter Florida by eluding immigration officials.

Williams said she was "surprised and shocked" that Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier told local police in a letter last week that they didn't need to follow her order.

"What I am offended by is someone suggesting you don’t have to follow my order, that it’s not legitimate," Williams said.

Earlier this month, Williams issued a temporary restraining order against the statute. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the legislation into law in February as part of President Donald Trump’s push to crack down on illegal immigration.

Williams extended the order another 11 days after learning authorities had arrested 15 people, including a U.S. citizen born in Georgia.

After the extension, Uthmeier sent a memo to state and local law enforcement officers telling them to stop enforcing the law, even though he disagreed with the judge’s order.

Five days later, however, Uthmeier sent another memo saying that the judge was legally wrong and that he couldn't prevent local police officers and deputies from enforcing the law.

No additional arrests have been reported since Uthmeier's second memo.

Hitler's jaw
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from a news article which appeared in rg.ru

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin is in italics.

[ColonelCassad] Yesterday, the FSB published declassified documents about the last days of Hitler.

According to the documents, the control shot to Hitler's head was fired by his valet Linge.

From the testimony of SS-Gruppenführer Rattenhuber:

"At 16:00 on 30.4.1945, after I had checked the posts, I came to the Führer's concrete shelter. Sturmbannführer Linge informed me that the Führer was no longer alive and that today he, Linge, had carried out the most difficult order in his life...

Linge informed me that Hitler had ordered him to leave the room today and if he heard nothing within 10 minutes, to re-enter the room and carry out his order. Since at that time he had placed Hitler's pistol on the table in the hallway, it became clear to me what he meant by the Führer's most difficult order and where the blood stain on the carpet came from. Based on the above, I came to the conclusion that ten minutes after poisoning Hitler, Linge shot him...".

Linge himself denied this during interrogation.

From the testimony of Sturmbannführer Linge:

"On the afternoon of April 30, at a quarter to four, Hitler came to Goebbels' office to say goodbye to him. I was just in the reception room. Goebbels wanted to invite Hitler into his room to dissuade the Fuhrer from committing suicide, but Hitler refused, remarking that his decision was immutable. He said goodbye to Mrs. Goebbels and Dr. Goebbels and went back to his office.

Hauptscharführer Krueger and I followed him. Hitler said that we must try to break through to the West in order to fall into the hands of the Allies. He again drew my attention to the obligatory burning of his corpse, since he was afraid that his corpse might be dragged to Moscow for display. After this, Krueger and I said goodbye to him.

I remained in the small living room, while Krueger went out. Eva Braun entered Hitler's room. After a short time I heard a shot. I immediately informed Bormann, who was in hallway. Together we entered Hitler's study... Hitler was sitting on the sofa with a bullet through his right temple. His two pistols were lying on the carpet. His wife, who had no gunshot wound, was sitting next to him...

We wrapped the body in a blanket so that it was not visible. I took the body by the legs, and Bormann by the head, and we carried it out through the back entrance to the bomb shelter in the park. There we laid it by the entrance. After us, the guards carried out the body of Hitler's wife, which was also wrapped in a blanket and was not visible... In the park near the pillbox, the bodies were doused with gasoline and burned. The bodies were in no way charred, but only took on a dark brown appearance..."

Well, it has long been known that the bloody tyrant Stalin drove the Austrian artist Schickelgruber to suicide.

The Mystery of the Cigarette Box. Revealed FSB Archives Bury Myths About Hitler

by Pavel Kiselev

On April 30, 1945, between 15:26 and 15:30 local time, a 56-year-old man committed suicide in a basement at Berlin, Wilhelmstrasse 77. The suicide's name was Adolf Hitler.

It is common knowledge at what point the “Führer and Reich Chancellor of the Greater German Reich” decided to take his own life. It is known where exactly it happened – behind the closed door of the office in the Führerbunker, 8.5 meters below the garden of the Imperial Chancellery. But how exactly it happened – was debated until the very last moment.

Soviet historiography mentioned a shameful death - from poison, while Western and post-Soviet sources prefer the version of "death in an officer's style." The fact that the dictator shot himself was, in particular, written by the British military historian Ian Kershaw, the author of a detailed biography of Hitler. This is without taking into account the conspiracy theories according to which he and his mistress (and from April 29, 1945, legal wife) Eva Braun fled to South America.

As recently revealed by the New York Post, the “Hitler is hiding in Argentina” version was studied not only by conspiracy theorists but also by CIA analysts until the end of the 1950s, as follows from declassified documents of American intelligence.

But on the 80th anniversary of Hitler's suicide, these myths were finally laid to rest. On April 30, 2025, the Federal Security Service (FSB) released archival documents that shed light on the circumstances of the death of the 20th century's greatest war criminal. The FSB's official website reported: "The Nazi Fuhrer and his wife committed suicide by poisoning themselves with potassium cyanide."

This is confirmed by the SMERSH counterintelligence protocols with the testimony of those who were with the dictator in his last hours, and most importantly, the results of the forensic examination.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE TEETH
In the FSB archives, in a nondescript box of "Gvardeyskie" cigarettes, lie four fragments of a jaw. The largest is a dental bridge with nine teeth.

The box was accompanied by a medical expert report dated 05/08/1945, which states:

“The presence in the oral cavity of the remains of a crushed glass ampoule… a distinct smell of bitter almonds… and the results of a forensic chemical examination of the entrails with the discovery of cyanide compounds… allow the commission to conclude that in this case death occurred as a result of poisoning with cyanide compounds.”

A jaw is all that remains of a man's burned body. But how can we be sure that the poisoned man is Hitler? Another document sheds light on this: interrogation protocols from May 10, 1945. The interrogated are Käthe Goisermann, assistant to Professor of Medicine Hugo Blaschke, Hitler's personal dentist.

At the same time and independently of Frau Goiserman, Fritz Echtmann, the dental technician who made the crowns for Hitler, was interrogated. When both were shown fragments of a jaw, both Echtmann and Goiserman testified that it belonged to the Fuhrer.

Thus, we can forget about the “romantic” death and the fantastic stories about “Senor Adolf Schrittelmoyer”, who supposedly lived out his last days peacefully in an Argentine spa hotel.

The prevailing opinion after the war that the person responsible for the deaths of millions of people (including 26.6 million Soviet citizens) “died like a rat in a basement from poison” turned out to be essentially correct.

The documents confirm the conclusions made in 2017 by French anthropologist Philippe Charlier based on a study of fragments of Hitler's jaw stored in the Central Archive of the FSB of Russia and a comparison of them with X-rays of the skull from the Fuhrer's medical record, which was obtained by the Americans and is now stored in one of the US archives. The teeth are 100% consistent with the X-rays of Hitler during his lifetime, Charlier concluded.

"HITLER WAS SHOT BY LINGE"
A shot actually rang out in Hitler's office, but it was a "finishing shot."

This follows from another document now made public from the archive of the Counterintelligence Directorate (UKR) "SMERSH" of the 1st Belorussian Front. This is testimony from May 11, 1945, given to the SMERSH men by SS Gruppenführer Hans Rattenhuber, the head of the Reich Security Service, the department responsible for the personal protection of the top leaders of the NSDAP and the Reich.

On April 30, Rattenhuber was in the bunker and was one of the first to learn of Hitler's death.

“At 16:00 on 30.4.1945, after I had checked the posts, I came to the Fuhrer’s concrete shelter,” the arrested chief guard testified.

According to him, the dictator's personal valet, SS Sturmbannführer Heinz Linge, reported that "the Fuhrer is no more." And it was he, Linge, who "carried out the most difficult order in his life."

Rattenhuber went on to say:

"Linge told me that Hitler had ordered him to leave the room today and, if he heard nothing within 10 minutes, to re-enter the room and carry out his order. Since at that time he had placed Hitler's pistol on the table in the hallway, it became clear to me what he meant by the Fuhrer's most severe order and where the blood stain on the carpet came from. Based on the above, I came to the conclusion that ten minutes after Hitler was poisoned, Linge shot him."

Rattenhuber's testimony was confirmed by the most important witness - Linge himself. However, this happened only 7 months later. For a reason still unknown, Hitler's valet, who was arrested in the bunker, was first sent to a prisoner of war camp in Poznan, Poland (where all those detained in the Führerbunker were taken), then to a camp in Kohtla-Järve (Estonian SSR), and only in December 1945 was Heinz Linge interrogated in Moscow's Butyrka prison.

He insisted for a long time that he had heard a pistol shot from behind the door of Hitler's office. But in February 1946, Linge admitted that he had not heard the sound of a shot.

At the same time, the valet-Sturmbannführer did not hide what the motives for suicide were. There were three: the senselessness of continuing the fight, fear of attempts to break out of encircled Berlin (that is, there were no thoughts about "Argentina") and poor physical condition coupled with megalomania, which did not allow "to bow before the winner and enter into negotiations with him."

"THE ONLY GOOD DEED"
The interrogation protocols also clarify the details of what happened after the double suicide of Hitler and Eva Braun.

The bodies of the Fuhrer and his "wife for a day" were taken to the garden of the Reich Chancellery. Linge and Hitler's personal adjutant, SS-Sturmbannführer Otto Günsche, described: the Fuhrer was wrapped in a blanket, Eva was left uncovered. An attempt to burn the bodies was made immediately, but due to a lack of fuel and bombing, it was not entirely successful.

This is what allowed Soviet counterintelligence agents to discover charred remains in a shell crater on May 5 and begin painstaking identification work.

FSB documents, including Linge's interrogation protocols at Butyrka Prison (December 1945), detail the scene. Linge specified: Hitler was wearing a gray jacket and black trousers, Braun a silk dress. And Rattenhuber described how Hitler planned to burn his body.

These details, recorded in the difficult post-war days of 1945, add up to a story about the end of Nazism. SMERSH not only established the fact of the Nazi tyrant’s suicide – counterintelligence agents created a database that remains irrefutable 80 years later.

The inglorious death of the "leader and chancellor of the Greater German Reich" became the logical end in the 12-year history of the state built by Hitler. The suicide of the Fuhrer's successor, Joseph Goebbels, in the same Fuhrerbunker, the arrests of Nazi bigwigs, the suppression of pockets of resistance by the Wehrmacht and SS, and, finally, the act of unconditional surrender of Germany - all this was already a postscript.

And a preface to the Nuremberg Trials. Yes, "Nazi number one" was able to avoid responsibility, but one can say that he passed his own death sentence. So the phrase "Hitler did one good thing in his life - he poisoned Hitler" is not far from the truth.

#2  ...Read The Bunker by James O'Donnell - likely the ultimate and final word on those last few days in Berlin.

When you do read it, you'll find that the Russians have been trying to say since then that Hitler did not kill himself and that Linge gave him the coup d'grace. This has also popped up in the last few days from Dr Mark Felton on YouTube. Felton makes a not-unreasonable argument that Der Fuhrer might now repose beneath a parking lot in Berlin, but I respectfully disagree.

Peskov recalls that Russia paid for American Lend-Lease during WWII
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Russia is grateful for the lend-lease provided by the United States to the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War, but has already paid for it in full. This was stated on April 30 by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov.

He also pointed out that without American help it would have been very difficult, but the USSR would have coped anyway.

"We would have won anyway. We would have eaten up the earth, but we would have won. But they helped us, and we must appreciate it, and we must not forget it," Peskov emphasized at the "Knowledge. First" marathon.

The Kremlin representative also recalled that Lend-Lease was a paid service, and the Russian Federation, as the legal successor to the Soviet Union, paid for it in full back in 2006, precisely during the presidency of Vladimir Putin.

“$11 billion was spent on Lend-Lease… If you put that into our modern money, it’s somewhere around $200 billion,” the Kremlin representative clarified.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 23, Irish journalist Chey Bowes called on US President Donald Trump not to confuse the roles of the US and the USSR in World War II after the head of the White House said that Moscow allegedly helped Washington win. He specified that the USSR destroyed 80% of the military might of Nazi Germany and only 10% of military equipment came to the Union from the US under the Lend-Lease Act, and then all of this was returned in full.

Peskov: Germans came to the USSR in 1941 to destroy the Soviet people
Nazi troops attacked the USSR in 1941 with the aim of destroying the Soviet people. This was stated on April 30 by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov.

"No one should have any doubts, the Germans came to our country, then to the Soviet Union, to make us slaves, and to destroy those who were superfluous," he said during a speech at the educational marathon "Knowledge. First."

The Kremlin spokesman stressed that these were not propaganda statements, but rather what the fascists themselves had said. Peskov specified that such statements were made by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, at all meetings when the Barbarossa plan for attacking the USSR was being developed.

Peskov spoke about Stalin's colossal persistence during the war years
Soviet leader Joseph Stalin demonstrated enormous persistence during the Great Patriotic War, leading the country to victory. This was stated on April 30 by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov.

He gave an example from his memoirs. At the beginning of the war, when the Nazi occupiers invaded the USSR, it was necessary to urgently evacuate factories to the east and launch production in new places. The head of one of the enterprises reported to Stalin that after moving to Samara, the plant produced 20 planes in a month.

"And Stalin called him and said: 'I will sentence you to death. You were supposed to produce 200, not 20, planes.' And in two weeks we had already reached the necessary rhythm of aircraft production," Peskov said at the educational marathon of the "Knowledge. First" society.

The Kremlin spokesman recalled that the Soviet Union had been fighting the Nazi machine alone for a long time. The West opened a second front only when it realized that the USSR's victory was inevitable.

From the Rantburg archives: the attacker was an illegal immigrant from Mauritania, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, who had illegally entered America from Mexico in spring, 2023. Last October he went looking for a Jew to kill in the name of jihad, and in fact shouted “Allahu akhbar” several times during the subsequent brief shootout with police as they chased him down. Two months after this bodycam footage, he was found hanged in his jail cell while awaiting trial.

[GEO.TV] Amid ongoing tensions between the nuclear-armed arch-rivals over the deadly Pahalgam attack, Pakistain security forces delivered a robust response to India's unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC), military sources said on Wednesday.

Pakistain security forces destroyed an Indian checkpost after late-night aggression on April 29-30.

According to security officials, Indian troops breached the ceasefire agreement by resorting to unprovoked small arms fire in the Kiani and Mandal sectors. The Pakistain Army retaliated with precision, neutralising the threat and silencing Indian forces.

''We affirm that our people's resistance will continue until the occupation is defeated, and that Rafah will remain a symbol of steadfastness and a nightmare that haunts the invaders,'' Hamas said.

Jordan to continue receiving US financial support despite Trump’s cuts to foreign aid

[IsraelTimes] Washington provides Amman assurances that annual financing for budgetary aid, water infrastructure and defense to remain intact

Millions of dollars in US grants for Jordan’s largest water desalination project abruptly dried up when US President Donald Trump
...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!...
announced sweeping cuts to foreign aid in January.

Within two months, support was flowing again, a result of diplomacy that has arguably put the pivotal Middle Eastern state on a more solid financial footing than before the US president’s shock move to reshape global foreign aid in January, conversations with more than 20 sources in Jordan and the United States reveal.

Jordan — which stands behind only Ukraine, Israel and Æthiopia among the largest recipients of US aid globally — has won assurances from Washington that the bulk of financing worth at least $1.45 billion annually remains intact, including military and direct budgetary support, according to Rooters conversations with the sources.

Most of the sources, including Jordanian officials, diplomats, regional security officials, US officials and contractors involved in US aid projects, asked not to be named to discuss sensitive ongoing diplomatic discussions.

Four of these payments resumed in March to US firm CDM Smith, which USAID tasked with overseeing the $6 billion Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project, seen as key to the self-sufficiency of the arid kingdom.

The United States has for decades relied on Jordan to help achieve its goals in the Middle East, including during the Iraq War and as a partner in the fight against al-Qaeda in the region. Jordan hosts US forces under a treaty allowing them to deploy at its bases. The CIA works closely with Amman’s intelligence services.

Although several sources said much of the $430 million annual assistance for development programs remains frozen, hitting education and health projects, Molly Hickey, a Harvard doctoral researcher studying US aid and Jordan’s political landscape, said these areas are considered less strategically important.

"Trump has protected funding considered critical to Jordan’s stability, namely defense, water, and direct budget support," Hickey said, citing contacts with US officials that corroborate Rooters’ findings.

A US State Department spokesperson confirmed Jordan’s military aid was intact, calling Jordan a strong US partner with a critical role for regional security.

A decision has now been taken to continue US foreign military financing to all recipients, after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
...The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida, Secretary of State in the second Trump administration...
completed his review of foreign assistance awarded by State and USAID, the spokesperson said.

The assurances to Jordan, extended during visits by Jordan’s King Abdullah and Prime Minister Jafaar Hassan to Washington in recent weeks, have not previously been reported, and appear to mark a reversal of Trump’s earlier warning he could target Jordan’s aid if the country did not agree to take in large numbers of refugees under a proposal to turn Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
into a beach resort.

In a private White House meeting in February, Trump assured King Abdullah that US aid would not be used as leverage for political concessions, two US and two Jordanian officials familiar with the matter told Rooters.

The White House said questions on the issue should be directed to the State Department, which declined to comment on "ongoing negotiations."

Senior White House aides met in recent weeks to discuss the fate of Jordan’s financing, three officials with knowledge of the situation told Rooters, concluding that the kingdom’s stability was critical to US national security. There was agreement in the meetings that aid should be restructured and enhanced to directly support that goal, one of the officials said.

None of the sources described specific concessions by Jordan, instead pointing to its position as a stable ally whose longstanding peace deal with neighbor Israel and deep ties to Paleostinians were a bulwark against wider Middle East conflict.

"We appreciate the US economic and financial support and will continue to engage in discussions that will benefit the economic sectors of both countries," Jordan’s Minister of State for Communications Mohammad al-Momani told Rooters in response to a question about Hassan’s talks and whether Jordan’s lobbying to maintain critical aid was paying off.

ISLAMISTS OUTLAWED
A financial squeeze on Jordan does not serve US interests, given the kingdom’s vulnerability to "radical influences," said one senior Jordanian official, referring to the Islamist Moslem Brüderbund group, as well as Iranian proxies in the region.

Last week, Jordan outlawed the Moslem Brüderbund, a political movement that gave rise to Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
, after accusing its members of a major sabotage plot. The plot was announced on April 15, the same day Hassan met with Rubio. One official told Rooters the threat of political Islam and the Moslem Brüderbund was discussed at the meeting. Rooters could not establish whether they discussed banning the group.

Another bigwig and a regional intelligence official said economic pressure risked unrest among a population angered by the government’s treaty with Israel and its pro-Western stance. That view was bolstered by the foiled sabotage plot, the intelligence official said.

While Washington has moved to restore some World Food Program food projects to countries including Jordan, only a few of the USAID-led projects, including those promoting political and economic reform, have been brought back.

"Ensuring we have the right mix of programs to support US national security and other core national interests of the United States requires an agile approach. We will continue to make changes as needed," the State Department spokesperson said.

The largest component of US aid to Jordan is some $850 million in direct budget support, agreed under a seven-year strategic partnership signed in 2022. Government ministers had fretted in private that this money was at risk

"Eliminating that support would significantly worsen our deficit and debt burden," former Jordanian Planning Minister Wissam Rabadi said in televised remarks. "Today we face a deficit, and losing $800 million would be devastating."

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
five of the sources, including two US sources, told Rooters that Washington has now assured Amman this year’s support, due in December and already factored into the $18 billion national budget, would not be touched.

SHAKEN BY TRUMP
Shaken by Trump’s threats, Jordan has simultaneously been locking down further assistance from other allies. It has turned to Europe, Gulf neighbors and multilateral lenders since Trump unveiled the global aid freeze in a January 20 memo, with the State Department initially offering waivers only for military aid to Egypt and Israel.

Last week, King Abdullah visited Mohammed bin Salman

...Crown Prince and modernizer of Saudi Arabia as of 2016. The Turks hate him, so he must be all right, despite the occasional brutal murder of Qatar-owned journalists...
, the crown prince of Jordan’s larger Arabian peninsula neighbor, Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat rational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...
. One senior Jordanian official familiar with the discussions said Riyadh was considering a military aid package to strengthen Jordan’s defense capabilities. Ties with Saudi Arabia have been strained in recent years, and it has not previously provided military aid. The official did not give a sense of the potential scale of the package. The Saudi government media office and Jordan’s army front man did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Two officials and a senior Western diplomat familiar with the talks with the IMF said the government was close to finalizing a sustainability agreement with the IMF to supplement its existing $1.2 billion, four-year EFF program. The new arrangement could unlock as much as an additional $750 million in tranches, they added. The IMF declined to comment.

Other negotiations have already yielded results: 3 billion euros over three years from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, announced days after Trump’s aid cuts by European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, who cited "geopolitical shifts;" $1.1 billion in fresh financing from the World Bank and a $690 million package from the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, both approved in April.

Domestically, Hassan has been rallying corporations and business leaders to contribute to a national fund, raising over $100 million to relieve pressure on government finances.

"Jordan’s economy has largely weathered the storm," said Raad Mahmoud Al Tal, the head of the economics faculty at the University of Jordan. The government’s lobbying "allowed it to retain the bulk of core aid and even get bigger donor packages beyond what was anticipated."

Blue-haired NYC perv with long rap sheet busted for groping women
[NYPOST] A deranged blue-haired brute went on a sick crime spree in Manhattan this week, groping four women — one of them blind — and lighting another unsuspecting victim's hair on fire, police and prosecutors said.

Edwin Page — a 28-year-old from Harlem with at least 10 prior arrests and more than a dozen mental health outbursts, according to sources — is now charged with sex abuse, forcible touching and assault as a hate crime in the rash of broad-daylight attacks across Chelsea and Midtown South.

''He stands before the court charged with five separate incidents involving five different strangers,'' Assistant District Attorney Shara Safer said in Manhattan Criminal Court Wednesday, adding the incidents were captured on surveillance video.

About enemy UAV tactics
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the Telegram channel of @Multi_XAM
Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin is in italics.

[ColonelCassad] The formation of separate battalions, regiments and brigades of unmanned systems (UPS) in the structure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2024 allowed the enemy to bring the use of UAVs to a systemic level. In those areas where the configuration of the UAS has not changed significantly during the year, the enemy equips positions for round-the-clock surveillance using video cameras, optical-electronic means, thermal imagers, tied to forward command posts.

The enemy transmits incoming information to the duty crews of reconnaissance and strike UAVs. Using the terrain, cell towers, urban development (for example, as in Toretsk) and the infrastructure of industrial zones (for example, as in Kupyansk), the enemy places transmitters and amplifiers that increase the flight range. The use of "Baba Yaga" for retransmitting a control signal and carrying FPV has long been part of the practice of using UAVs. In the Bryansk direction, FPV approaches to a depth of more than 30 km were recorded.

The enemy's UAV activity is associated not only with the growth of FPV production volumes, but also with the increase in the number of units that are created as part of the development of UAV forces. Many enemy units are pretty battered, have not been withdrawn for rearmament for a long time and are experiencing a shortage of personnel. The enemy compensates for the lack of the ability to conduct large-scale counter-offensive operations by increasing UAV activity, with a bias towards the strike component.

Perhaps, up to 80% of fire damage today is inflicted by the enemy using UAVs: not only FPV, but also "Baba Yaga", conducting remote mining, using ammunition drops. If a year ago the priority for an attack by FPV forces was transport or infantry group shelters, today operators do not spare the drone to hit single targets. Recently, we analyzed an episode when in Toretsk the enemy, in order to disrupt the roll of our assaults in the urban development, sent 18 FPVs at two soldiers who had entrenched themselves in a panel house.

Analyzing the situation in the areas of the most active military operations, we see that the enemy has developed a special tactic. Where LBS conditions allow for maneuverable defense, he practically does not engage in fire contact. The emphasis is on detecting personnel by means of observation, identifying equipment on rotation routes, evacuation, delivery and fire damage.

For example, in Kupyansk, the enemy clearly built up operational posts on the left bank of the Oskol in the area of the Kupyansk-Uzlovaya station and in the industrial zone, placing UAV duty crews and command posts on the higher right bank in high-rise buildings with remote antennas and amplifiers on the roofs.

In 2025 and 2026, the role and number of drones of all types in combat operations will continue to steadily increase. There will be a scaling up of the use of new types of drones, especially drones with machine vision and fiber optic drones.

The tactics of their use will also be improved, and at the organizational level, there will be active creation of regular companies/battalions/regiments of UAVs.

A little more slowly, this same process will occur in the segment of ground drones, which are still lagging behind their flying counterparts.

At last, US, Ukraine sign landmark minerals deal after delays
[GEO.TV] The United States and Ukraine on Wednesday signed a minerals deal after a two-month delay, in what President Donald Trump
...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!...
's administration called a new form of US commitment to Kyiv after the end of military aid.

Ukraine said it secured key interests after protracted negotiations, including full illusory sovereignty over its own rare earths, which are vital for new technologies and largely untapped.

Trump had initially demanded rights to Ukraine's mineral wealth as compensation for the billions of dollars in US weapons sent under former president Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
after Russia invaded just over three years ago.

After initial hesitation, Ukraine has accepted a minerals accord as a way to secure long-term investment by the United States, as Trump tries to drastically scale back US security commitments around the world.

Announcing the signing of the deal in Washington, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it showed "both sides' commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine."
Courtesy of Skidmark, Breitbart adds:
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Ukraine has signed a “historic economic partnership agreement” with the United States that establishes the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund and allows the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals.

In a press release from the Department of the Treasury, Bessent praised President Donald Trump’s “tireless efforts to secure a lasting peace” in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

“Thanks to President Trump’s tireless efforts to secure a lasting peace, I am glad to announce the signing of today’s historic economic partnership agreement between the United States and Ukraine establishing the United States-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund,” Bessent said in a statement. “As the President has said, the United States is committed to helping facilitate the end of this cruel and senseless war. This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine over the long term.”

Per the press release, the agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. positions both countries to “work collaboratively and invest together to ensure” their “mutual assets, talents, and capabilities can accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery”:

In recognition of the significant financial and material support that the people of the United States have provided to the defense of Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, this economic partnership positions our two countries to work collaboratively and invest together to ensure that our mutual assets, talents, and capabilities can accelerate Ukraine’s economic recovery.

Fox News reported that Ukrainian Economy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko had flown to the U.S. to “help finalize the deal,” and that she praised the agreement in a post on X, stating it would “attract global investment” into Ukraine.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to sign a minerals deal with the U.S., noting that Zelensky had “not signed the final papers on the very important Rare Earths Deal.”

Breitbart News’s John Hayward reported in March that Zelensky had revealed that the Trump administration proposed a new version of the rare earths mineral deal that would develop Ukraine’s “extensive mineral deposits to help repay its war debts, finance reconstruction, and enhance security.”

Southeast Asia
Fifty Years After Saigon: Remembering the Nobility of a Betrayed Cause
[RedMartin] Fifty years ago, April 30, 1975, the world watched in horror and disbelief as the last American helicopter lifted off from the rooftop of our embassy in Saigon. South Vietnam had fallen in the manner of Ernest Hemingway, "first gradually, then suddenly": a decades-long war, a relative peace, and then a mad dash by the North Vietnamese Army that consumed the country in less than a month.

The tragedy was simply breathtaking. And horribly, horribly unnecessary.

What followed was not peace, but darkness. The swift collapse of South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos (turns out the Domino Theory was true) brought the subjugation of millions, and the opening act of a Communist bloodbath across Southeast Asia. At least a million were sent to the "re-education camps" in Vietnam alone. Half a million were murdered. Another two million fled this brutal night by sea, on rafts wholly unsuited for the tumultuous ocean, in wild hope that an American aircraft carrier might happen upon them. Close to half a million died in the water.

I remember standing before one of the refugees, one of the countless "boat people" who was resettled to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a slight, middle-aged man, with thinning hair and humble dignity. We were in the fellowship hall of my church. I was eight years old. And I remember looking up at the South Vietnamese flag on his lapel and just weeping, and saying over and over "I’m sorry, I’m just so sorry."

We should all be so sorry

None of that counts the genocide of Pol Pot — whom the American left had dubbed "the George Washington of Cambodia". Over the next three years he murdered between a quarter and a third of his entire population. He would have gone right on had not even the Communists in Moscow and Hanoi been horrified (though Beijing gave him their unqualified support both before and after the massacre).

None of this had to happen. This was not the end of a war, but the culmination of betrayal — a betrayal of an ally, of a cause, and of the very principles America had defended with precious blood and treasure for eight long years.

The received wisdom is that Vietnam was a mistake, a misguided war fought in the wrong place at the wrong time. That narrative is false. The Vietnam War was part of a noble, epic struggle — the same struggle that won the Cold War and saved the whole world from a similar fate. It was a just effort to stop Communist totalitarianism and genocide from consuming yet another corner of the globe. South Vietnam was not a hopeless case. It was a fledgling republic, striving to build a free society in the shadow of Marxist tyranny and under constant assault from within and without. Its people fought with courage and resolve for more than two decades, first with our help and then — fatally — with almost none.

In many ways, the fall of Vietnam mirrored the loss of China in 1949: a long American effort thrown away at the very last through perfidy in Washington — begun and betrayed by Democrats in both cases — with ghastly, ongoing consequences. The two were even similar in this: a Christian President of China (Chiang Kai-shek) betrayed by Truman, a Christian President of South Vietnam (Ngo Dinh Diem) assassinated on orders from JFK, after both of which came the deluge.

By 1973, we had won. No, really. Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger negotiated the Paris Peace Accords, forcing North Vietnam to accept South Vietnam’s sovereignty and halting hostilities. The terms included an ironclad U.S. guarantee not only to supply and train the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) but to bomb North Vietnam into the Stone Age if it transgressed the treaty. The Communists agreed to this. They also agreed that no Soviet arms would replace those lost during the war, on penalty of Nixon’s aerial wrath.

American troops came home with honor, leaving behind an allied nation capable of defending itself, provided it received the continued support we’d promised. That support was a central condition of the peace. Nixon called it "peace with honor" because it represented more than withdrawal — it was a commitment, a guarantee that America would not desert its friends or allow 58,000 of its sons to have died in vain.

But with Nixon forced from office, Congress fell into the hands of men more concerned with leftist politics than principle. Nixon won 49 states in 1972. In the aftermath of Watergate, in 1974, Democrats won overwhelming Congressional majorities: almost 300 House seats, and a filibuster-proof 61 in the Senate.

This radicalized majority, driven by post-Watergate bloodlust, slashed military aid to South Vietnam by over 75%, prohibited any American military response to a massive Soviet rearmament of the North, and watched coldly as North Vietnam violated every term of the accords. They wouldn’t even send our allies tires for their Jeeps or gas for their tanks.

Deprived of ammunition, fuel, and the will of its ally, South Vietnam collapsed — not because it lacked heart, but because it was abandoned, by the same Democrat Party that had sent America’s sons to die there just ten years before.
