Gunmen kill policeman in Iran's southeast
[Naharnet] Gunmen shot dead a policeman and wounded his wife in Iran's restive southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, state media reported Saturday.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Biden missing in action as Iranians protest regime and declare 'America is not the enemy'
[Fox News] The protests could have a global impact as demonstrators call out the regime's spending on terror ambitions

Protests against the legitimacy of Iran’s Islamic Republic continue to sweep across the vast country triggered by a multitude of reasons including rising food prices, the collapse of a twin-tower apartment building killing at least 29 people (with more dead feared under the rubble) and a considerable loathing of the clerical regime.

As the protests continue to intensify and spread, U.S. President Joe Biden has stayed on the sidelines and not personally weighed in on the revolts against the clerical regime.

During Thursday night’s protests in the southwestern city of Abadan, where the building had collapsed, people chanted slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei himself, saying "Khamenei is a murderer; his rule is illegitimate," despite the deployment of riot police.

Police fired tear gas into the air to disperse the angry crowd of hundreds near the building site, online video analyzed Saturday shows. Videos shared online showed a massive crowd near the Metropol Building on Friday night, with lights shining on its facade. In a second video, demonstrators at street level are seen chanting: "Our enemy is here; they lie that it is America!" A third video showed an angry crowd with one shot heard. The person filming turned and ran, shouting: "Don't shoot! Don't shoot!"

According to human rights activists and Iranians meticulously documenting the regime’s violent crackdown, at least five people have been killed and scores of demonstrators have been incarcerated.

The prominent Iran expert Alireza Nader posted video footage showing demonstrators in the city of Bushehr, located on the Persian Gulf, also declaring: "Our enemy is right here [in Iran], they lie and say it’s America."

The chant "Death to the Dictator!" was also voiced, referring to Khamenei.

"The Biden administration and EU continue to talk about social justice but that just seems to be cheap talk for votes," Banafsheh Zand, an Iranian-American journalist and human rights expert, told Fox News Digital. "That social justice does not seem to extend to everyone around the world though."

"That Biden did not even address the disaster in Iran and the huge anti-regime demonstrations, is another sign of him wanting to cover up the Khomeinist regimes’ crimes against humanity, just so he can make his disastrous [nuclear] deal," she added. "The Iranian people, for the most part, now consider both the Democratic Party and the European leaders as hypocrites and foes."

Lisa Daftari, also an Iran expert, wrote on her website, The Foreign Desk, "As protests enter their third week in provinces across Iran with demonstrators calling for the death of the Iranian supreme leader and the overthrow of the hard-line, radical regime, the Iranian opposition is coming to social media in droves expressing their frustration at being generally ignored and unsupported by the international community."

She continued, "The protesters, whose platform is mainly centered upon the government’s corruption and lack of human rights, have a global message; they’re calling out the regime spending billions of dollars on its terror ambitions and leaving the Iranian people without subsidies to purchase basic goods and live comfortable lives."

Biden hosts a photo op in Uvalde, but not before he disinvites Border Patrol agents who responded to the massacre
[AT] Apparently for Joe Biden, only certain murdered children are worth memorializing — ones that fit his political agenda. Although it’s been over a year and a half since little 8-year-old Jackson Sparks was mowed down at a Christmas parade, Biden has yet to pay his respects to the community of Waukesha, because the killer didn’t use a gun. However, Salvador Ramos did, so Biden’s handlers sprang into action for a press opportunity, but not before revoking invitations from heroes:

Biden administration officials uninvited many of the Border Patrol agents and other law enforcement officers who responded to the Robb Elementary School shooting from a meeting with the president scheduled for Sunday in Uvalde. Despite the event being planned for a large open-space facility, administration officials cited space as a reason for the retracted invitations.

His presence, unsurprisingly, was met with sincere disgust.

Other members of the public, upset about the fallout of lawless open-border policies in their border town, held signs directing Biden towards the scene of the chaos

Given his very public history, Biden’s sleazy reputation is well-earned, and well-known. From relegating Black Americans to a position of Democrat footstool with his "well then you ain’t Black" comment; to caressing and sniffing nearly every young child in his presence; to simply fathering Hunter Biden — Joe Biden’s behavior is unbecoming of an American, a man, and particularly a president. His gaffes are endless, and his entire political career is summed up by these defining characteristics: "incipient dementia, inability to lead, and sheer heartlessness." Biden has fully given into the tenets and beliefs of the modern Democrat-Marxist party, which stands opposed to law and order and the very Americans who uphold constitutional limits and God-given rights of the individual — his move to exclude the very men responsible for taking down the Robb Elementary child-killer ought to be predictable.

Just when you thought Biden couldn’t sink any lower into the pit of classlessness, he did — and I imagine he will be shoring up his indecency for as long as we have the misfortune of his "leadership."

#7  Regarding the Uvalde shooter, are we really being told the truth.

Curious about his murky birthplace, and the North Dakota birthplace reference seems convenient since birth records there are sealed, and the mother doesn't speak English. Further, thre is the question of money, " He was a high school drop out. Using round numbers, the rifle was $2,000, the Eotech sight at least $500, 60 magazines for $1,200 and 1,600 rounds of ammo at $1,000. That's about $5,000 worth of weaponry, not including his body armor. One article said he used a credit card. If true, whose?
His place of birth, his financing, his possible backing are all legitimate inquiries."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Hawkish Heritage Foundation Bails on Ukraine
[ZH] In a striking indication of the American right's increasingly skeptical view of costly foreign interventionism, the Heritage Foundation took an aggressive stance against the $40 billion aid package approved by Congress earlier this month.

In a May 10 statement ahead of the House vote, Heritage executive director Jessica Anderson said,

"This proposed Ukraine aid package takes money away from the priorities of the American people and recklessly sends our taxpayer dollars to a foreign nation without any accountability. America is struggling with record-setting inflation, debt, a porous border, crime and energy depletion yet progressives in Washington are prioritizing a $40 billion aid package to Ukraine."
Like COVID, it's over, at least as a front-and-center political crisis for the beltway crowd to milk. It's uncertain whether the Uvalde incident has the legs to replace it all the way to the mid-terms.
Noting Congress had approved a $13 billion aid package just two months earlier, Heritage blasted the new aid proposal for its lack of spending offsets and the absence of a guarantee that European countries would make proportionate financial commitments of their own.

Flirting with an "America first" philosophy, the press release was titled, "Ukraine Aid Package Puts America Last."

Though the aid package proceeded apace, Heritage's opposition was particularly significant because it came from conservative flagship with a profoundly hawkish history.

Heritage backed the invasion of Iraq and continued to defend it well after it had been fully revealed as an unjust disaster. A 2007 Heritage FAQ about Iraq asked—given there were no weapons of mass destruction and knowing what we know now—whether Iraq should have been invaded. "Yes," replied Heritage. "Saddam Hussein's regime was a major threat to American interests and the region as a whole."

Heritage was likewise a steady cheerleader for keeping U.S. troops endangered in the fool's errand that was the Afghanistan war, churning out reports with titles like "Afghan Review Shows Troop Surge Working and "Maintain Momentum in Afghanistan."

In a Ukraine-vote post-mortem at the Wall Street Journal, Heritage president Kevin Roberts said his think tank had been accused of "abandoning conservative principles or embracing populist isolationism. Neither charge is true. But in one sense, both are welcome. The war in Ukraine may finally force conservatives into the intramural foreign policy debate they have put off for more than 30 years."

In a promising sign of how that foreign policy debate may be nudging Heritage, Roberts has elsewhere referred to himself as a "recovering neocon," according to the New York Times.

In an interview this week, he told the Times that Heritage's opposition to the Ukraine package, reflects "a real skepticism among the conservative grass-roots about the entrenched conservative foreign policy leadership."

#4  America also has a right to question how much of the $40B would mysteriously find its way back to DC SWAMP pockets.

Only about $5B will actually go for weaponry and most of that will be useless or destroyed quickly by the Russians. $9B is going right back into MIC pockets, for replenishing depleted American weapons stocks.

Over $20B will disappear into the black hole of the Zelensky "government," likely for additional villas for Zelensky and his retinue in Israel and Miami and London and money laundering vehicles in Ohio and Appalachia for Zelensky's billionaire puppet master, the bandit and Azov-funder Ihor Kolomoisky.

#5  The Narrative shifts again. No more MoD planted bullshit about fumbling Russians; now it's all harrowing tales of "outgunned " Ukrainians and British, American and other mercenaries barely escaping death in ferocious firefights at close quarters with an enemy that actually has artillery and air support -- unlike the pisspoor ragtag third world fighters encountered previously in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Also just starting to see reality creeping into the coverage, with comparisons to the American experience in Fallujah, which took far longer for the American forces to subdue than any city that the Russians have vanquished when up against a NATO-trained and -armed entrenched enemy in Ukraine.

The Russians have been much more effective against an army that is vastly more powerful than anything the US ever faced in Iraq or Afghanistan. Every story now appearing in the Western press about US or UK mercenaries includes a lengthy discussion of how much more deadly this war is than the 3rd world expeditions in Iraq or Afghanistan. Lots of WWI comparisons ... trench warfare + drones. "Terrifyng" being used again and again.

Interesting how rapidly the Narrative shifts.

They knew WMD was a lie, just like the rest of them. It was nothing but an excuse to start a war.

Major threat to American interests, yeah sure. More like a threat to Israel. If they wanted Saddam gone why didn't they get thousands of their own soldiers killed doing it?

Saddam's constant violations of the 1991 ceasefire alone, including firing on our and NATO's pilots were sufficient cause for war.

#9  Rantburg’s archives start on 11. September 2001, or 9/11/2001 in the American style. We watched — and documented — events as they happened, including the observations of Rantburgers serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere then, before, and afterward.

Rantburg’s archives document that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had war chemicals in quantity at the time of the 2003 invasion, even after unknown quantitites had been destroyed by burning in ditches in the weeks before the invasion. The archives document the Saddam Hussein regime’s research into nuclear and biological weapons; hiding airplanes in the desert sands; the Salman Pak training facility for Muslim and Arab terror cadres that provided courses in hijacking airplanes, bomb making, and a variety of other advanced skills that Al Qaeda among others attended; the looooong caravan of trucks carrying Baathist Iraqi gold and other valuables for safekeeping in the care of Bqqthist Syria, where it was subsequently used to pay the jihadis who crossed through Syria to fight the Coalition in Iraq, first signing up with Al Qaeda in Iraq, then its successor organization Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The Archive tab can be seen at the top of the Pages at the right, or search Rantburg by key word using the box over the list of most recent comments in the right margin. A search of “Iraq nuke” for instance, yields this, from 2006.

tl;dr What badanov and Besoeker said. Bertie Lumumba1577, Saddam Hussein’s ambition was to corner the Middle Eastern oil supply, and thus control the entire world. His war against Iran failed, but he neatly conquered Kuwait, and would have taken over Saudi Arabia just as neatly if America, et al had not twice directly interfered — the second time making it impossible for Iraq to repeat the effort for the foreseeable future.

Undercover border cop lightly injured, 3 Palestinians wounded in West Bank clash
[israelTimes] Military says rioter threw bomb in Dheisheh refugee camp; 2 detained in Tulkarem on suspicion of terror activities; reported shooting toward Israeli car, no injuries

An undercover Border Police officer was lightly injured Sunday morning during festivities between Israeli security forces and Paleostinians in the Dheisheh refugee camp south of Bethlehem.

The officer was lightly hurt by shrapnel when an bomb was thrown toward troops during an operation inside the refugee camp.

The officer was taken to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment.

According to reports, three Paleostinians were also maimed in the festivities with Israeli troops. There were no further details on their conditions.

In a statement, police said that the undercover officer was involved in the operation at the home of a suspect.

When they left the refugee camp, police said, they were attacked by rioters who threw rocks and more bombs.

"Hits were identified at a number of bully boyz who hurled explosives," police said. Police did not say if the suspect was detained.

In a separate operation, the IDF said troops detained two Paleostinians suspected of involvement in terror activities in Danaba, a neighborhood of the West Bank city of Tulkarem, but did not elaborate on the suspicions against the pair. They were taken to be questioned by the Shin Bet security agency.

The IDF also said it received an overnight report of shooting toward an Israeli vehicle at Zif Junction, south of Hebron. The driver was unharmed in the incident, and no damage was caused to his vehicle. Troops went to the scene, where they found several shell casings in the area.

In record, more than 2,600 Jews visit Temple Mount on Jerusalem Day
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinian Authority, Jordan condemn Israel for allowing ’extremists’ — including far-right MK Ben Gvir — to visit holy site

A record number of Jews visited the Temple Mount on Sunday to mark Jerusalem Day, prompting rebukes from Jordan and the Paleostinian Authority.

According to the Israel Police, some 2,600 Jews were granted entry to the holy site, in groups of 40-50 in two waves in the morning and afternoon.

Hundreds had arrived early in the morning to wait for a chance to tour the site, and many more did not get in.

The figure was an all-time record, according to Hebrew media reports.

It smashed what was previously considered the record, on the fast day of Tisha B’Av in August 2019, when some 1,700 Jews visited.

Among those who visited the site on Sunday was far-right MK Itamar Ben Gvir.

The Temple Mount — which also houses the al-Aqsa Mosque — is administered by the Waqf, a religious trust run and funded by Jordan. The site is the holiest place for Jews, as the place of biblical temples, and al-Aqsa is the third holiest shrine in Islam, turning the area into a major flashpoint in the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.

A spokesperson for Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
said Israel was "playing with fire" by allowing "settlers to desecrate holy sites."

"[Israel] is disregarding international law and considers itself above the law," presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said, according to the official WAFA news agency.

Abu Rudeineh called for "the international community, especially the US administration, to assume their responsibilities regarding what is taking place."

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter wished he had thought to pack sun block...
Jordan’s foreign ministry denounced Israel for allowing Ben Gvir and other Jewish "extremists" to visit the holy site.

"The Foreign Ministry spokesperson demanded of Israel that it cease all practices and violations of the al-Aqsa Mosque," the ministry said in a statement.

The Jordanians also condemned the "provocative, escalatory" Flag March that began later on Sunday, warning it could lead to an eruption of violence.

Though it is a national holiday, Jerusalem Day, which marks Israel’s conquest of the Old City and East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War, is celebrated nowadays mainly by national-religious Jews.

Most prominently, youths parade through the Old City for the contentious Flag March. Israeli officials have worked to dispel false rumors that the parade route includes the Temple Mount.

Under an increasingly frayed arrangement known as the status quo, Jews are generally allowed to visit the Temple Mount during limited hours, but not pray there or perform other acts of worship that can be seen as a provocation to Moslems.

Prior to the arrival of the Jewish visitors at the site Sunday, dozens of Paleostinians barricaded themselves inside al-Aqsa Mosque and hurled rocks at security forces stationed outside.

In an apparent violation of the so-called status quo, several Jewish visitors who visited the mount raised Israeli flags. The Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group has previously signaled that the waving of the Israeli flag at the holy site, which includes the al-Aqsa Mosque, could trigger a violent mostly peaceful response.

After Jerusalem Day Flag March, clashes between Palestinians, Jews, cops flare in E. Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] Flashpoint Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood sees fighting, arrests, vehicle torched; Israeli maimed after Paleostinian stone-throwing near Old City, masked Jews beat Arab journalist.

Paleostinians, Jewish Israelis, and Israeli police clashed at several locations across Jerusalem on Sunday night, capping off a long, tense day in the city that hosted the contentious Flag March of tens of thousands of nationalist Jews through the Old City.

At least five Israeli Police officers, as well as several Jews and Paleostinians, were maimed in the violence. Paleostinians hurled stones at a Jewish Israeli near the Dung Gate to the Old City, according to Israeli police. The victim was hospitalized in good condition.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Mr. Nancy Pelosi arrested for DUI in Napa County
What about the hooker with him?
[TMZ] Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, was arrested this weekend for DUI ... TMZ has learned.

The House Speaker's spouse was arrested just before midnight Saturday night in Napa County, and then booked hours later into jail on two counts -- driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher ... both misdemeanors.

The details of the incident of the arrest have yet to surface, and we're working on getting a full narrative -- as well as a mug shot if available -- but at the moment, this is all there is.

BTW, the arrest info here lines up with what we know about Paul publicly, especially his birthday -- listed as April 15, 1940. Indeed, the guy's 82 years old.

No word on whether the Speaker herself was with Paul during this bust -- as you know, she's often in D.C. for her job ... but since it's Memorial Day weekend, she could've possibly been back home with her family for a bit -- but it seems unlikely. At the moment, it appears she's in Rhode Island for a commencement speech to graduates there.

She hasn't publicly acknowledged Paul's arrest, and neither have any of her children or immediate family as far as we can tell.

In any case, Paul's bail was set at $5,000 -- so we imagine he's already out at this point. He's been married to Nancy since 1963.
Whoopie! He was in a collision with a jeep in his 2021 Porsche before the DUI. Double-plus ungood, and much harder to wish away

BINGO!
Drinkers who have stopped drinking burn off alcohol at the rate of .015% per hour as a general rule unless they have compounding health issues.
A field sobriety test or the arresting officer use of the Horizontal Nystagmus Test seems likely. HGN is a standardized field sobriety test (FST) that police often administer in order to gauge whether a DUI suspect is under the influence of alcohol. It has a 77% accuracy rate and can be the basis for the breathalyzer. Absent an admission by the suspect, a breathalyzer or blood draw is the formal confirmation for DUI.
The delay in the breathalyzer is highly suspect.

#2  What Bhandrakumar wrote regarding Kyiv and Warsaw:

"About a month ago, in a rare statement, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused Washington and Warsaw of plotting to restore Polish control over part of western Ukraine, which Poland had ruled at different times in the past, most recently between the two world wars. The territories include the city of Lviv, which were absorbed into the Soviet Union at the end of World War II.

"The SVR said the US was discussing with Poland a plan under which Polish “peacekeeping” forces without a NATO mandate would enter parts of western Ukraine where the chance of a confrontation with Russian forces was low. The SVR’s intelligence scoop presumably triggered an expulsion of 45 Russian diplomats in Poland and a physical attack on the Russian Ambassador at a public function at Warsaw.

"Curiously, soon afterward, on May 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced “joint customs control” on Ukraine’s border with Poland, which he described as “also the beginning of our integration into the common customs space of the European Union… (and) a truly historic process.” Zelensky said Ukraine-Poland relations are “finally completely free of quarrels and the legacy of old conflicts. I would like the brotherhood between Ukrainians and Poles to last forever… our unity of Ukrainians and Poles is a constant that no one will break.” Two days before that, Polish President Andrzej Duda had visited Kiev.

"To be sure, Zelensky and Duda acted with US approval. In effect, Ukraine’s sovereignty over its western regions bordering Poland is eroded. Kiev has also announced plans to grant special legal status to Polish citizens. Plainly put, a de facto “merger” is under way."

A reclamation of lost territories in western Ukraine (estimated to be 178000 sq. kms) would make Poland much larger than Germany — exceeding 500,000 sq. kms as against Germany’s 357, 588 sq. kms. The geopolitical implications are far too profound to be overstated — to name a few, EU’s future, Germany’s rise, Europe’s autonomy, German-Russian relations, Russia’s security.

#6  Perhaps the Division of Poland Ukraine was part of the original plan:

Goodbye Ukraine. Welcome back Greater Poland and Imperial Russia

"Was the ongoing war in Ukraine started for the purpose of redrawing the map of Eastern Europe?

In particular, was the objective to restore the frontier between Poland and Russia along the Dneiper River, where it was agreed in 1665 by the Treaty of Andrusovo, an agreement made "permanent" in 1686 by Russia's payment to Poland of 146,000 Rubles. (The ruble was worth more then than now -- about 5000 times more.) Under the terms of that treaty, Russia acquired Polish land to the right of the river, while Poland retained the left bank.

If that is the objective, what is the motivation?

For Russia, the benefit is obvious: the recovery of at least the Eastern half of the former Imperial domain of Little Russia.

For Poland, likewise, the benefit is the recovery of former imperial lands.

But why would Ukraine facilitate its own extinction?

For several reasons.

First, to be rid of those damn Russian cockroaches, to use the terminology of the Ukrainian nationalists.

Better to lose the Eastern territories than tolerate continued cohabitation with people who speak a foreign language, perpetuate a foreign culture, and have allegiance to the super power next door.

Second, to be rid of those damn Nazified nationalists, who not only hate Russians but also Jews, a highly influenctial element of Western Ukrainian society, with over one hundred thousand members in Kyiv alone.

Third, to enter immediately into the European Union and NATO, thereby gaining the prospect of rapid economic development plus increased security from further Russian encroachment.

How did Ukraine hope to achieve these objectives?

Easy.

First, send the Nazis to exterminate ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine.

Second, fail to prevent the Nazis from being killed or taken captive by invading forces of the Russian Federation sent to protect their Ukrainian co-ethnics.

Third, refuse a negotiated settlement with Russia, thus ensuring Russian annexation of East Ukrainian.

Fourth, make Poland an offer of union it cannot refuse, meaning the return to Poland of former Polish territory, including the Polish city of Lvov.

Result: Ukraine will be no more, and everyone but the Nazis and the many thousands of victims of war will be happy.

#10  Zelensky's puppet master is the billionaire bandit who created and funded the neo-Nazi Azov Battalion which the Russians destroyed at Mariupol. Neither one gives a shit about Ukraine. Kolomoisky is in Israel and Zelensky will probably soon end up in Tel Aviv at his villa there, with occasional jaunts to Warsaw, London and Miami.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has done an extraordinary job detailing how Kolomoisky looted Privatbank, the embezzlement vehicle favored by Zelensky and other corrupt Ukrainian politicians (and Hunter Biden and his fellow Burisma thieves), and all of Kolomoisky's 14+ American money-laundering steel mills across Appalachia. Kolomoisky also invested in multiple commercial properties in Cleveland, Ohiio, most of which were foreclosed upon several years ago.

The looting began over a decade ago and was used to build up Zelensky's (much smaller) ill-gotten fortune and then to prop up him as a political candidate and Azov and others as paramilitary thugs creating havoc and murdering their way across Odesa and the Donbas.

It is an appalling spectacle. These are the thieves that America has funded and empowered in Ukraine. They have stolen even more money from their oeople and from their western backers than Hamid Karzai or the Iraqis stole from the US. They could not care less about Ukraine. Their only concern is

Kolomoisky's biggest champion in the US, the man who enabled him to break so many laws and launder billions while violating dozens of safety regulations at the steel mills he ran into the ground, was and remains Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's two-part extensive investigative bombshell was published only last November. It has been swept aside in the latest US faux-democracy crusade-cum-war hysteria.

Ohio's senators of both parties have also championed Kolomoisky and helped him evade scrutiny by US regulators and other authorities.

#15  Why not carve up Ukraine and turn the region upside down?

That fits nicely with the American playbook in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iraq is now effectively a set of three tribal states, with greater Iranian influence. Afghanistan is now part of greater Pakistan (or maybe vice-versa; it seems to be changing by the day).

So why not make Ukraine into Greater Poland + Greater Russia?

Notice how different this is from what Kissinger and every other wise diplomat and scholar recommended. Instead of a durable peace settlement based on making Ukraine a neutral buffer state -- what Kissinger called a "bridge" connecting and helping unite Europe with Russia -- the neo-con warmongers and Biden Freakshow are trying to create perpetual conflict and strife with a Dniepr version of Korea's DMZ.

#18  Kolomoisky's biggest champion ... is Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

Manchin is a total scumbag. His daughter has pocketed millions thanks to dad's corrupt intervention on her company's behalf. The safety violations at the rotten and decrepit steel mills that Kolomoisky took over with Manchin's help have destroyed the lives of dozens of American steel workers (and at least one health and safety inspector).

No wonder the Democrats support their filthy war in Ukraine. Sick corrupt bastards

#19  The Poles and the Biden Administration are playing with fire. Entry of Poland into western Ukraine will inevitably create a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia -- in short, set off World War III.

Here is what a Russian general said yesterday. It is difficult to dispute his conclusions:

"The Poles under the national flag will not go either to Belarus or to Ukraine. Mercenaries, volunteers, whatever you want to call them, can go to the Donbass, somewhere in the Lviv region or the Ternopil region, but not the servicemen of the Polish army. Poland is part of NATO, and one shot from NATO towards Russia is the beginning of the Third World War.

"Everyone understands this, and I think Warsaw received a very clear command from Washington: not to take initiative. America does not want to perish because of Ukraine or because of Poland. In a global nuclear war, which is exactly what World War III will inevitably become, there will be no winners."

There is a sense of dread or malaise settling in now in Europe. One hears the word debacle more and more. The New York Times' correspondent has picked up on this:

"As the war drags on in Ukraine, millions of refugees arrive in Europe, energy prices rise and inflation booms, European policymakers are reflecting a growing fatigue in some parts of the bloc. The oil embargo debacle is a case in point...."

This is somehow different from life in Europa for the last thousand years? Europeans should be thankful that life was temporarily prosperous for the last thirty or so years.
Posted by: magpie || 05/30/2022 11:17 Comments || Top||

#24  Over the last 207 years Europe has known many more years of peace than war -- twice as many, to be precise.

There was no war in Europe for nearly forty years, thanks to the Concert of Europe after 1815. There was no war for another forty years after Sedan.

And another forty year period of peace after 1945, and even longer if you consider that the major powers did not fight each other in the Balkan War.

In reality, between 1815 and the present, the major nations of Europe -- France, Germany (including Austria and Prussia) Britain and Russia -- have experienced peaceful relations and prosperity for about 140 or so years: i.e. more than two-thirds of that time. Compare that with Asia or the Levant during this modern era.
Posted by: Jean-Paul || 05/30/2022 11:43 Comments || Top||

#25  The reason for such long stretches of peace is the one that Kissinger alluded to: wise and realistic diplomacy aimed at pensyring each great power's interests and security concerns are respected and balanced.

From 1815-1853 this was achieved through the efforts of Kissinger's hero, Metternich -- with help from his British and Russian counterparts.

From 1871-1910 or so this was achieved mainly through the careful balance established by Bismarck -- again, with help from his counterparts in Britain (esp. Disraeli) and Russia (esp. Count Gorchakoff).

From 1945-1992 this was achieved by the strategy of the brilliant American diplomat George Kennan -- again, by creating a balance of power with Russia.

Perhaps you're perceiving a common thread... Do you see why Kissinger spoke out against the folly of imagining there can be European peace and prosperity while excluding Russia?

Realism isn't always pleasant but it's the only sound means of securing peace and prosperity.

#39  "Lie back and think of... Kissinger"

That is actually snarky! *clap*clap*clap*

Over the last 207 years Europe has known many more years of peace than war -- twice as many, to be precise.

This may be good marketing, but maybe not as impressive as intended. 1/3 war and 2/3 peace certainly isn't continuous war, but after a year of war, you need a year to clean up the rubble and another year to gather resources for the next round. Let's call it a continuous process with three discrete phases.

As a side note, the phrase "over the last 207 years" attracts attention for being quite specific. Not "the last couple centuries", but 207 years. Makes you wonder if there is something on the other side of that boundary that would give a different conclusion.

#48  Henry Kissing[er] got the Nobel Peace Prize

... because he signed a peace treaty that put a cap on the potential damage, in American lives lost and human suffering generally, that would have been wrought had he continued the two preceding Democratic presidents' mad escalation of a pointless American intervention.

Again, it's extremely strange to see intelligent people sneering at pragmatic, realistic solutions to pointless and devastating wars. The cause is either simple masochism or else some bizarre American puritanical impulse -- to punish others by causing harm to oneself.

State Security Court sentences Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh and Mahmoud Ezzat to 15 years in prison
Unless it is announced that this is the final ruling, it is only another stage along the intricately winding path that is the Egyptian judicial process, a process that is as much a deliberate punishment as an actual sentence would be. No doubt Hell’s devils are envious...
[AlAhram] A Cairo Supreme State Security Court sentenced on Sunday acting Moslem Brüderbund guide Mahmoud Ezzat and former presidential candidate and leader of the Strong Egypt Party Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh along with 16 others to 15 years in prison on charges of leading an illegal group and spreading false news.

The court also sentenced 15 others to life in prison and two other defendants — including Strong Egypt Party Vice President Mohammed El-Kassas to 10 years in prison.

The high state security prosecution accused Abul-Fotouh and Ezzat as well others in the trial of several charges, including leading the Moslem Brüderbund terrorist organization that attempted to change the regime by force and executing terrorist attacks targeting judges, army and police personnel, and public institutions in order to topple the regime.

Abul-Fotouh was also accused of spreading false news in an interview with Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i-based al-Jazeera news agency about the regime.

The 71-year-old physician had been a leading member of the Moslem Brüderbund since his university years in the 1970’s, however, he left the group in 2011 over organizational disagreements.

In June 2012 — following the 25 January Revolution — Abul-Fotouh ran an independent presidential bid in the first presidential elections after Mubarak’s ouster, finishing fourth with 18 percent of the votes in the first round of the election, which was eventually won by the Moslem Brüderbund’s Mohammed Morsi in a run-off against Ahmed Shafiq.

Shortly after the 2012 presidential elections, Abul-Fotouh established the Strong Egypt Party.

Abul-Fotouh was arrested in February 2018 hours after his return from a visit to London, during which he was interviewed by al-Jazeera and reportedly criticised government policies.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, a new, even louder, voice was to be heard...
Acting Moslem Brüderbund Supreme Guide Mahmoud Ezzat was arrested in a hideout in Eastern Cairo in 2020 and was sentenced in April 2021 to life over charges of murder and terrorism in a case known in the media as the ’Guidance Bureau Case.’

He was also sentenced in December of last year to life for collaborating with the Paleostinian group Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, and other foreign organizations and disclosing information pertaining to Egypt’s national security.

Moreover, he was sentenced to life in prison in April in the ’Storming of the Eastern Borders Case’ that goes back to 2011.

The Moslem Brüderbund has been designated a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government since December 2013.

Somalia: A prominent peace activist dies in Mogadishu
[Garowe] A leading peace and civil society activist in Somalia has passed away, his immediate family has confirmed, in what has been termed as a serious setback to the teams organizing reconciliation in a country that has struggled with instability for decades.

Abdullahi Mohammed Shirwa, a much-loved activist, died on Saturday night after illness, state media reported. Abdullahi spent most of his adult life trying to pacify communities in Somalia. He was the co-founder, and chair of the Somali Peace Line civil society organization.

Since the ouster of Siad Barre in 1991, Somalia has never enjoyed peace and there have been deliberate efforts to unite the country, which is also battling with al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
menace. al-Shabaab first emerged in 2007 and has been terrorizing people in the country and across the borders.

The death of Abdullahi Mohammed Shirwa is a big loss for Somalia according to analysts who have previously covered his peace initiatives. Recently he led the team that collected $4.4M for the victims of the Zobe explosion, which helped 1000s including 1,547 orphans, per VOA's Harun Maruf.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud termed the death a "huge blow" to the fragile nation and asked the world to pray for his family. The president, who assumed office last week, noted that the country should emulate the activist by preaching peace across the nation.

Mohammed Hussein Roble, who is the Prime Minister, also mourned the dear departed as a selfless leader who "used available resources" to bolster peace in the country. Similar tributes were passed by Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
President Said Abdullahi Deni.

His death comes at the time Somalia's new government has called upon the world to chip in and assist in the peacebuilding network. The US has already confirmed that it is dispatching close to 500 soldiers who will help the country in stabilizing.

Ten terrorists killed, one arrested in a raid on hideout in North Sinai terrorists
[AlAhram] Ten bad boyz were potted, and one more was arrested during a raid on a hideout in North Sinai governorate as part of ongoing anti-terror operations, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced on Sunday.

The Armed Forces recovered a number of small arms, hand grenades, boom belts, rocket launchers and wireless devices, as well as a quantity of ammunition and high explosives.

The statement added that an injured terrorist was arrested while attempting to escape the hideout.

The Egyptian Army added that legal measures are being taken against him by investigating authorities following his arrest.

This is the latest in a series of raids launched by the Egyptian Armed Forces in North Sinai against terrorist hideouts in May.

On 7 May, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced the death of an officer and 10 soldiers as well as the injury of five others after foiling an attack launched by a group of turbans on a water lifting station in western Sinai.

A branch of the terrorist group Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) — that was formerly known as Ansar Beit al-Maqdisgrabbed credit for the 7 May attack, which was the first major terrorist attack in North Sinai in recent years.

A day after the attack, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi directed the Armed Forces during a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to continue purging North Sinai of terrorists.

In 2018, the Armed Forces launched a major counter-terrorism drive dubbed "Comprehensive Operation Sinai 2018" that succeeded in almost eradicating terrorism from North Sinai as well as the Nile Delta and desert areas.

As a result, the rate of terrorist attacks in North Sinai has declined in the past few years following massive and successive security and military operations.

A forgotten diary reveals the truth about life and death at Azovstal: Fights for rotten food and drugs
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Dmitry Steshin and Alexey Ovchinnikov

[KP] ANGRY AT NAZIS BUT BELIEVE IN PROPAGANDA
Exploring the cellars of the newly liberated "Azovstal," we accidentally stumbled upon a book in a black cover. They opened it and gasped: the book turned out to be a diary, which was kept by one of the inmates of the cellars of the Mariupol plant.

The diary, written in Ukrainian, although it covers a short period - from May 1 to May 17 - but details the conditions of stay in the bunkers: how they got food, got angry at the well-fed and clean "Azov", believed Ukrainian propaganda - in a "happy ship ”, which will take the inmates of Azovstal to the“ evacuation ”, and then they were preparing for surrender.

We have translated this diary from Ukrainian.

From the captured diary:
It is already May, and there is no end in sight to our problems in the environment. Today there was a message about the evacuation of civilians and on the radio they talked about the end of the truce and silence. Most likely, a new, more powerful series of air raids (air bombings. - Ed.) is starting.

The next day, a two-day watch with Koval's group. After four days in the bunker, this is very useful, because here you already want to howl from boredom and hopelessness, and the food is like that, even cry from resentment. We won’t see the Internet anyway, because the authorities don’t care, and on duty in the daylight you feel like a person, and not some kind of rat.

While silence, climbed to the surface. Today we remembered the May Day celebrations in peacetime - barbecue, sunshine and even the opening of the swimming season. How far away is this...

Today I had the opportunity to go online, watch the news. About the adoption of equipment, tanks, artillery and aircraft (apparently, we are talking about the supply of weapons by the West. - Ed.). According to forecasts, in May in Russia they should understand that the matter did not burn out. Even if they mobilize all resources, Ukraine will increase the pressure.

Something flew very well over the bunker in our workshop, dust rose into the air. I moved into the room to "Rezol." But when I looked around, I saw that a large beam was hanging directly overhead. I decided to move to the bench, so calmer.

Today we were going to sort out the rubble over the "shop" with products , where everyone is grazing a little. But the shelling got in the way, you need to move along the street, and these are big risks, especially with such a crowd. So with the products are so-so. Today there was even borscht for lunch, but portions were half a bowl. We save water, give one and a half liters for two days to each.

How glad I am that I do not have the humiliating desire to look for cigarette butts, so many people do.

"ALL TOBACCO FROM" BUCKS "WERE PULLED"
May 3, 2022.

I sawed firewood during the day, there is enough here - the boards and beams are prepared, only the saw is dull. I managed to drink a couple of cups of tea in a day. The problem with water and the queue for the kettle. With sugar too.

One of our positions, "Kommunalnaya," has access to the river. Our Marines set up fish nets there, and Hans saw them out yesterday to collect the catch.

We eat fast, twice a day. There is trouble with the smoking, all the tobacco from the bulls has long been pulled out, the newspapers are spinning.

My main joy is that Palych showed me SMS from his wife saying that everything is fine with them, they love me very much and are waiting for me. Calmed down. Returned from position. I had to kick the dog out of my place. The white dog, who was considered a Labrador, turned out to be a Rottweiler, now he is not white, covered in mud and fuel oil. I don’t know what he eats, he himself has nothing to eat, but he doesn’t leave.

"NO HOPE, MINIMUM PRODUCTS"
05/04/2022.

The lads with Koval returned, they said that there was a heavy mortar attack, one was wounded, Koval was also slightly hooked. The situation is acute. All shelters were dismantled by shelling from tanks and armored personnel carriers.

No news, no evacuation. The unknown is stressful. We need to hold on, but there is no hope. There are still products, but at a minimum.

Eloquent footage from a photo report about the life of the "Azov" and the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the basements of Azovstal.

The prospect of getting out of here is increasingly impossible. It is becoming clearer that we are becoming some kind of bargaining chip. Perhaps this is the piece that Russia will be satisfied with and stop hostilities in Ukraine, taking Azovstal and the Azov people.

We'll just go to the slaughter or humiliating captivity because it looks like we've been forgotten. Today Oleg Kadolba looked a little on the Internet, there are messages about Mariupol from Zelensky: he said that not a day goes by that he does not think about the evacuation. But these are just empty words.

It would be nice to wash off the dirt, because there are only napkins (more precisely, medical masks instead of napkins), and there is very little water in general.

Dreams are somehow torn - trampling, explosions, constant noise of units that pass almost over heads back and forth at night. Thoughts only about the house, delicious food, smoking.

In the 7th company they promised a truce. Upon the return of the platoon commander and the "Archie" group, it remained to wait for the completion of the shelling and the planned sortie to "store 10" (a food warehouse. - Ed.). We went there in two groups (ours had 20 people), but without armor. It was good, because by the time we got there (almost 3 km), I was worn out. There was a tour of the ruins of the plant. The scale of destruction is impressive, the greatness of the broken giant, everything is torn apart.

In order to get food, you need to dismantle the blockages of concrete and brick, under all this to find something that they did not have time to endure before us. This "shop" has been dismantled for more than a week. They pull out sacks of cereals and peas, somewhere they found stew ...

But everyone was more interested in the half-burnt refrigerator. The meat in it burned down, but butter, cheese, sausage and frozen fish were preserved. This stink cannot be expressed in words - from rotten fish that needs to be dug up, because the sausage is vacuum-packed below. And melted butter. Nauseous, but what to do. They collected everything else they could eat. At the base, I had to get rid of the form and wash for a long time, but still, everything was saturated with rotten meat.

"Rostik" told me that the day after tomorrow he had to go on duty with "Kolyaka", because he was dropping out of the team. Blame it all on the “rastamania” that has blossomed wildly in the positions of the Marines and others. "Grass" has become a hot commodity, a bargaining chip. Of course, this is not good for the service. Our young people make a profit on this for the platoon - they changed products. Well done.

"WE ARE LOSSERS FOR THEM"
05/07/2022.

The second day the cooks try to make the most of the sausage that we brought (two-thirds of the brats was thrown out anyway - unusable). Roast and add everywhere. I remember Shevchenko's "for a piece of rotten sausage."
Sausage reference:
We live on the bare minimum. Something, but we are definitely not fulfilling the combat missions that the state needs here, we are just sitting under siege.

We often have Marines from the 36th Brigade. Those who were abandoned to the mercy of fate by the brigade commander. We often talk about the "Azovites", about their bosses - they sit warm, clean and well-fed, they control the actions of the military from tablets. At the same time, they protect their own.

All other fighters are treated like cannon fodder, considered worthless and losers. Of course, this does not raise morale in any way, but there is no question of military fraternity. There is no open confrontation, but everyone understands that it is precisely the presence of Azov that is the problem, which prevents us from resolving the issue of our stay here without death or captivity.

"SINISTER RUMORS"
May 8, 2022

Nikolai Golubov brought some ominous rumors about Zelensky's agreement on the surrender of the DPR and LPR within the borders of the regions. To my reasonable question - how can the territories controlled by us be given away - he began to convince me that the entire Donbass was already occupied. I do not believe and do not want to swear with these fools.

People say that I lost weight in my face. This is good, maybe it will freshen up my eyes, otherwise when I remember the last passport photo - both laughter and tears.

"EVERYTHING WOULD BE OVER ASAP"
May 9, 2022.

"Palych" with Kodolba came from the positions, but only so that the platoon commander in the workshop would shoot the machine gun with a new mount, a "greenhouse" (night vision sight with a thermal imager. - Ed.). The food is almost unsalted - not enough salt. Portions are also reduced. But I don’t complain - I won’t swell from hunger, and that’s good.

Mid-May is coming soon, but it hasn't gotten any warmer. There is nowhere to hide from dirt from dust, although I constantly wash my hands with an antiseptic. The beard is already thick. It will be interesting to see yourself shaved.

They want to take away the optics of my SVD (Dragunov sniper rifle. - Ed.). Yesterday even received a proposal to change to automatic. I am completely in favor.

The general mood: if only everything would be over, everyone is dreaming of getting out.

"PYLYUKA POST"
05/10/2022

It became more interesting. On the night of May 9-10, airstrikes began, from which even the walls of the bunker tremble. Bombs are now dropped during the day. It is impossible to prepare for the explosion - nothing is heard. This is a little nervous.

Pylyuka pillar. I had to go down, but there was dust there too.

From the news I learned that near Kharkov, ours were conducting a counteroffensive. All is well with the gunners and soon they will master the American 155-mm howitzers, high-precision and long-range. Putin did not introduce mobilization, and he did not hold parades (apparently, the Ukrainian media kept silent about the Parade in Moscow on May 9 - Ed.). Negotiations about our evacuation are ongoing.

"FIGHT OVER PRODUCTS"
05/11/2022.

The commander held a conversation to find out the problems of the servicemen. I raised the question of paying for hostilities. Ideally, it would be nice to get a printout of all payments. We are not able to check the money in the account, as well as send it home.

Nazarliev rushed into a fight against one of the guys. Due to product distribution. It is clear that when someone finds food on the side and feeds in a narrow circle, and someone sits on a scanty ration, there will be problems.

“THIS IS A TERRIBLE IMAGINATION OF ALL THE LOSSES”
05/13/2022

Almost the whole day was on duty near the radio. I heard negotiations with "Lawyer" - a marine of the 36th brigade. They remembered their inglorious breakthrough from Mariupol, two unsuccessful attempts, the escape of the brigade commander, hundreds of losses, prisoners. They said that at the stadium "Metallurg" - a mass grave, 150 fighters. Another truck with their "cargo 200" (the bodies of the dead. - Ed.) was filled up at the "Ilyich Plant".

Losses at Azovstal and in hospitals are also closed in refrigerators that are not working. One of them was destroyed by an explosion. Such terrible things. There were rumors that on one of the bunkers, after airstrikes near the “20 store”, 69 people filled up. It's scary to imagine all the statistics of losses.

After May 9, a new evacuation date is in the air - Monday the 16th. They still dream of a happy ship to a Turkish prison until the end of the war.

"THE RAIN DOESN'T INTERFERE WITH THE RUSSIAN TANK"
05/14/2022

The morning brought tragic news - our sniper from the 3rd platoon , foreman Zinchuk, was killed. This is almost the only professional sniper, he was very careful and responsible. Obviously, there are pros on the other side. This is already the fifth loss in the battalion during the rotation, not counting the missing soldier Ivan Krivonos. Came "Archie", cocked, pounced on Demchenko, who made a remark for the noise at 5 o'clock in the morning. Everybody gets on their nerves.

It started raining heavily. God, we already forgot that it could rain. But for more than an hour, a Russian tank worked closely in our bunker - the rain did not interfere with it.

"HOW DO MY PEOPLE DO IN POLAND?"
05/15/2022

From the news that I heard: negotiations on our issue were to be held in Mariupol today, representatives from the “horde” were waiting.

Disappointing rumors: products are running out and it is not known whether they will be issued at all. The grocery store is full. This is where about 70 "two hundredths."
(200s means killed. 300s means wounded)
And in general - killed twice as many.

Mid-May, spring has passed, and we do not see it at all. We still wear winter clothes.

I wonder: how are my people doing in Poland? Do they bask in the spring sun? I would warm up.

"HOPE FOR SALVATION IS A LIE"
May 16, 2022. Company "Pamir", "Bunker".

And then came the turning point. Today, at the formation, the company commander reported that our evacuation was beginning. Formally so, but in fact we are disarmed and transferred to the Yelenovka pre-trial detention center, which is under the control of the DPR. And although the command convinces that the word "captivity" does not appear, it still does not change the essence - this is captivity. It is clear that the hope of salvation is a lie.

Today, the seriously wounded were evacuated to the Novoazovsk hospital (also DPR). Those who accompanied them were sent to a pre-trial detention center. They promise decent conditions, "protection" of the Russian guard (not separatists), three meals a day, sleeping places. Hope they exchange it soon. We were allowed to take things with us. But all this does not calm, because lack of freedom and defeat.

Get rid of equipment and armor. We destroy what we can. I don't know what to do with diaries. Leave them here in a hiding place, but I don’t believe that it will ever be possible to find them.

I deleted everything from my phone. Hands go down. Although after what we've been through, it doesn't seem to get any worse.

How senseless and wildly perceived is the last loss of foreman Zinchuk, who did not live long before the evacuation. And today, a sniper killed one and wounded another "Azov" who made their way to the river000.

They say that there will be a different attitude towards the Armed Forces of Ukraine than towards Azov. Lord, when will this all be over. Tomorrow everything will be seen what and how. While I made a sortie to the workshop, wandered through the ruins, such melancholy, it was a farewell walk.

"WE HAVE NO CHOICE"
05/17/2022.

Went over things. Got rid of knives, burned chevrons, as well as pages from diaries with some data. In the evening I clung to Palych and, oh, a miracle, I got 10 minutes of communication. Beloved did get through, we talked for three minutes. I think they understood that I was going into captivity. I didn’t see contempt for us on the news, but we have no choice. What will happen? Everything is in the hands of the Lord.

Commentary by Dmitry Steshin:
We know what happened in the bunker under the Reich Chancellery - there are many eyewitness accounts. Books have been written and films made about it. People are always interested in how bastards get what they deserve, and how Good triumphs over Evil. I have no doubt that the last days of the "Azovstal inmates" will also arouse burning interest.

There are too many coincidences in two stories, although there are exactly 77 years between them - the same spring. The ideas are the same, the symbolism is the same - swastikas and runes. At Azovstal, scoundrels got into trouble no worse than those in Berlin, only with a smaller caliber. But even what they managed to do would be enough for the gallows: they dragged thousands of people to the next world, destroyed a beautiful city. At parting, from evil, without apparent military necessity. And no sense of guilt. No attempt to think: “What did we do wrong, since we were driven into these cellars like rats? What are they guilty of?"

No. The "prisoners" think only how to save their skins, they are waiting for NATO intervention, they believe in a Turkish steamship that will take them out to the last, to captivity.

Note that this diary was not written by a rabid Nazi from Azov. No, this is some kind of combatant from the National Guard. An officer seconded to Mariupol. He will serve time, and will leave, apparently, with a "clear conscience", theoretically.

There was a mise-en-scene when we found this diary under a stinky mattress in a bomb shelter. A militia scout with the call sign "Fox" talked about politics, collecting scattered machine gun magazines in a trash bag along the way. I quote Lisa verbatim:

- In vain they separate the "Azovites" and the rest of the Ukrainian military, this is the same bastard. I spoke to people in Mariupol. The same ukromorpehi shot people with whole families. Just if you didn't like it or aroused suspicion.

I was also told the same. They showed the grave of the victim. On the playground, in the sandbox. Some middle-aged man went into hysterics. The psyche broke down after the shelling. And those who allegedly defended this peasant from the “orcs” and “separators”, instead of giving him a sedative, simply shot him. Like. Without thinking. Ordinary Ukrainian warriors.

No wonder - the officers who were ideologically pumped in Azov were placed as commanders in the rest of the troops. And, judging by the abundance of swastikas on ordinary soldiers taken prisoner, the ideas of bunker inmates from two eras found great understanding in the army, which our troops are now grinding. And there is no doubt that the most interesting bunker that we will open will be in Kyiv. The circle will close.

Egypt receives half of target quantities of wheat from farmers; stock sufficient till Jan. 2023: Minister
By the time things reach equilibrium, the world will have excess built in and be more stable, while China will no longer be allowed the illusion that it’s cock of the walk.
[AlAhram] Egypt has received around three million tons of wheat from local farmers since the start of harvest season in early April, Supply Minister Ali Moselhi told Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during a meeting on Thursday, which amounts to nearly half the quantities the country targets from local market.

Moselhi said that currently the country's stock of wheat is sufficient to cover local consumption until January 2023, according to a cabinet statement released following the meeting.

The government seeks to collect six million tons of the strategic crop from farmers through August, up from the 3.5 million tons collected in 2021, as part of a diversification of its wheat supply amid the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Ever since the disruption in the supply of Black Sea wheat after the Russia-Ukraine war broke out on 24 February, Egypt — the world's largest wheat importer — has scrambled to find viable import alternatives to secure the strategic commodity. Russia and Ukraine alone accounted for 80 percent of the country’s imported wheat supply.

Annually, Egypt spends tens of billions of pounds to secure nearly 20 million tons of local and imported wheat, a key strategic commodity for the production of loaves of bread — a staple of everyday Egyptian diet and cuisine for tens of millions of citizens.

Prime Minister Madbouly said the government closely follows up on the purchase of wheat from local farmers nationwide as well as the country's strategic reserve of other staples, a cabinet statement noted.

Amid the current global crisis, the country has begun working on two avenues to ensure its annual needs for wheat are covered. The first is finding new international sources of wheat, and the second is taking a number of measures to ensure it collects the largest possible amount of wheat from local farmers.

Meantime, the strategic reserves of rice suffice for nearly five and a half months, cooking oil for roughly six months, livestock for around 16 months, frozen meat for six months and frozen poultry for about eight months, the minister added.

The General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), the country's grain buyer, contracted to purchase 50,000 tons of subsidised rice that are set to arrive in July and August of this year, he pointed out.

Egypt to increase local wheat production to meet 65% of consumption by 2024

[AlAhram] Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi told the Senate on Sunday that Egypt is doing its best to achieve greater self-sufficiency in wheat production, aiming "to meet 65 percent of domestic needs by the year 2024."

Responding to questions on the impact of the current global food crisis on Egypt, El-Moselhi said the government's policy of preparing a six-month stock of basic commodities was highly successful in absorbing this crisis.

"We moved on different fronts to absorb this crisis, such as diversifying the sources of our wheat imports, building a big number of wheat silos and opening hundreds of retail markets to make sure that citizens get their food needs at reasonable prices," said Moselhi.

Moselhi said that while the Russia-Ukraine war had disrupted food chains worldwide, including Egypt’s, "the fact that we had enough stockpiles led us to absorb the crisis," said El-Moselhi.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
he admitted that the government had to intervene for a limited period at some "critical times" to enforce price controls on bread and other commodities like sugar and rice to stabilise prices and prevent monopolistic practices on the market.

Separatist leader assassinated in Hadhramaut
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Unknown gunmen have assassinated a leader of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Hadhramaut province, eastern Yemen.

This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on the testimonies of local sources.

According to the sources, gunmen in a car opened fire at the head of the STC’s branch in al-Abar district, Salem al-Sayari, while he was in the Mankhr area of Hadhramaut Valley.

The sources noted that al-Sayari was killed instantly at the scene.

The STC accused the Islah party of being behind the murder, according to the sources.

The assassination comes amid escalating conflict between the STC and Islah over control of the oil-rich Hadhramaut valley directorates.

Annual posturing: Egypt’s FM deplores latest Israeli provocations with Fatah, Jordanian and Paleo officials while negotiating doubling trade with Israel
[AlAhram] Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed recent Israeli provocations in the Paleostinian territories with Secretary of Paleostinian Fatah Movement’s Central Committee in Cairo Jebril Ragoub, the Egyptian foreign ministry announced.
“Tut, tut. And again I say tut!”
“Too which, sir, I add a harumph!”

The press release which thereafter was sent out summarized the discussions as follows:

The parties found themselves once again in harmonious accord, indignantly tutting and harumphing in chorus at the perfidious conduct of the Joos, who refuse to vacate premises taken by the Ummah by right of conquest from the Romans a millennium ago.
Tensions rose in East Jerusalem Sunday as Israel allowed its controversial flag march celebrating the full capture of the city in the 1967 Six Day War with thousands of Israelis marching through the Paleostinian quarters carrying the Israeli flag.

Also on Sunday, groups of Israeli settlers stormed al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest place for Moslems around the world.

From his side, Minister Shoukry stressed the necessity of suspending any procedures or practices that target the Moslem and Christian Arab identity of the city of Jerusalem and change the historical and legal status of the city, warning that the escalation impacts the stability of the Paleostinian territories.

The Paleostinian presidency issued a statement condemning the Israeli actions saying that "Israel was playing with fire by allowing the settlers to desecrate the holy sites in East Jerusalem."

The Egyptian FM also warned that the expansion of settlement activity, whether through building new settlements, expanding current settlements or confiscating land from Paleostinians, undermines the opportunity to reach a two-state solution in Paleostine.

Sameh Shoukry asserted in the meeting with the Fatah official Egypt’s continuing support to the Paleostinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Paleostinian people.

Egypt has reiterated its full support for the two-state solution and an independent Paleostinian state on the borders of 5 June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Y’all keep chasing that phantom if it makes you happy — just understand that even President Biden can’t make it happen.

Egypt, Jordan, Palestine call for int'l community to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace process
Apparently it’s that time of year again, when vapid statements about belling the cat are made by various mice in conference.
[AlAhram] Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry held a meeting on Wednesday with his Jordanian and Paleostinian counterparts on the sidelines of the 157th ordinary session of the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
Council at the ministerial level, in an attempt to revive peace talks and resolve the Paleostinian-Israeli conflict.

During the meeting, Shoukry discussed with Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman al-Safadi and Paleostinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riad Maliki the latest political developments that Paleostine is witnessing, a statement by the ministry said.

The meeting also touched on the most prominent areas of cooperation between Egypt, Jordan and Paleostine and ways to further enhance their relations, foreign ministry front man Ahmed Hafez said.

The three foreign ministers stressed the importance of launching serious negotiations between Paleostine and Israel in an effort to reach a comprehensive, fair and ever-lasting peace that guarantees the establishment of an independent Paleostinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, Hafez noted.

The three ministers also expressed their aspiration for the concerned parties to actively engage in the grinding of the peace processor and to work towards addressing everything that undermines the chances of reaching a two-state solution and establishing peace in the region.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt's continued support for Paleostine at various levels, and agreed to continue coordination and consultation with all concerned parties during the coming period, according to the statement.

This came ahead of the opening of the 157th ordinary session of the vaporous Arab League Council, which was headed by the Lebanese FM, where Arab foreign ministers called on the international community to revive the grinding of the peace processor in accordance with relevant international references and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They call, but only the nymph Echo responds.
Meanwhile, instead of posturing, Israel and Egypt do this:
Israel, Egypt to boost economic ties, step up bilateral trade to $700m
[IsraelTimes] Economy Ministry says countries to develop commercial crossing as joint employment area, engage in R&D cooperation, and increase economic activity.

Israel and Egypt are moving to strengthen economic ties and hope to reach $700 million in annual bilateral trade in the next three years, the Economy and Industry Ministry said Sunday.

Under a new proposed plan, the two countries are set to jointly develop the Nitzana crossing between them, where commercial trade is handled, as a regional logistics center and a joint employment area; engage in R&D cooperation; develop joint projects in the area of green energy; and increase the number of direct flights. The plan will also see Israel increase imports of food, fresh fish, and construction materials from Egypt and exports of agriculture solutions and technologies.

The two countries are targeting annual trade (excluding tourism and natural gas exports) at about $700 million by 2025, up from about $300 million in 2021, according to the ministry.

Most Israeli exports to Egypt are in the textile sector, with the rest in areas like chemicals, rubber and plastics and other materials. Israel imports agricultural and food products from Egypt, as well as chemicals, electrical machinery, rubber and plastics, and minerals and fuels, the ministry said.

The new plan will expose more Israeli industries to the Egyptian market and make development and infrastructure projects accessible to Israeli tech companies, the ministry added.

Toxic smoke and suspicious plastic plant fires in Turkey
[Rudaw] The number of fires breaking out in plastic recycling plants has soared in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

In Kartepe, an industrial town in the country's north-west, one of these sites was closed by the authorities in December after the outbreak of three fires in less than a month.

Supreme Council of Resistance for the Salvation Afghanistan Rejects the Taliban’s Invitation to Return to the Country
[KhaaamaPress] Members of the Supreme Council of National Resistance® for the Salvation of Afghanistan issued a statement, on Friday, 27th May, calling the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
’s recent actions, including convening the Loya Jirga and forming the Return and Communications with Former Afghan Officials and Political Figures Commission, a "ploy" that they "firmly reject."

While the Taliban lacks national and international legitimacy, the council claimed that the Taliban had made "desperate efforts" to gain support from the Afghan people and the international community, as well as to rule the "oppressed" people for a period of time.

The council said in a statement that the Taliban were staging a "sinister plot" by hosting a "show", referring to the meeting of the "Great Assembly of Afghans" at the behest of a pre-determined plan.

The National Resistance® Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan, according to the statement, denies both Taliban attempts, calling them "an insult to the collective consciousness of the people, a disdain to political figures and their complicity in the Taliban’s crimes, and a play on the international community’s thoughts."

"The Taliban must understand that no conscientious political figure, no committed and diligent scholar, and no brave and patriotic woman is willing turn a blind eye on the blood of Afghanistan’s oppressed people and their just demands and partake in the group’s crime," the statement stated.

The council also said the Taliban should know that the group’s treatment of domestic politicians, its violence against women and former regime employees, is the best measure of how it treats others.

The Supreme Council of Resistance® for the Salvation of Afghanistan has stated that instead of these "ridiculous tricks and games," the Taliban should seek realistic and viable solutions to the country’s present situation.

According to the council, the Taliban must comply with the legitimate demands of the Afghan people, including the formation of a transitional government and then a regime based on the people’s will through general elections, in order to bring real change to the country and bring stability, security, and prosperity to the country.

The statement comes as the Taliban has established a commission to invite and protect political figures inside the country. In addition, the group plans to hold an assembly in Kabul, labeling it the Loya Jirga, to obtain internal legitimacy.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Briefly about Ukraine. 05/29/2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] 1. Svetlodarsk.
Fighting in the area of Novoluganskoye and at the Uglegorsk thermal power plant.

Fighting is going on in the Klinovoe area. The liberated settlements switched to the republican supply.

2. Artemovsk.
Fighting in the Pilipchatino area, which is located in a semi-circle.
The section of the road between Artemovsk and Soledar is also under fire from Russian artillery. Artillery and rocket attacks continue to be carried out on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the city.

3. Soledar.
Fighting at Stryapovka and Novaya Kamenka.

There are battles near Belogorovka, Nagorny and Berestovoye.
The Soledar-Lysichansk highway is subjected to heavy fire impact. Losses of the APU when using this route are growing. The enemy uses up to two BTGs to try to push our troops back to Lipovoe and Vasilievka.

4. Golden.
A little less than half of Kamyshevakha has been cleared. Fighting is going on near the western outskirts of Toshkovka and in Ustinovka.
Attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to return part of the positions in Toshkovka were not successful.

Fighting continues in Zolote. The enemy is still holding the cut.

5. Severodonetsk.
Fighting in the city, where our troops entered after taking the Mir Hotel area and the bus station. The enemy never received an order to retreat from the city. Fights - in residential buildings, the industrial zone will obviously be left for later.

The group's communications in Severodonetsk have been disrupted, and normal communication with Lisichansk is associated with losses.
There are fights in the area of Voronovo, Borovskoye and Metelkino. Lisichansk is not yet stormed.

6. Avdievka.
The slow advance north of Avdievka and the fighting in the industrial area continue.

There are also battles near Krasnogorovka, Novoselka-2, as well as on the southern outskirts of New York. A rapid pace of advancement is not expected here, since in fact, echeloned fortified areas are being hacked.

7. Krasniy Liman.
After occupying Krasny Liman, the RF Armed Forces are clearing the adjacent forests north of the Seversky Donets (river).

The positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are being processed north of Slavyansk and in the Raygorodok area. The enemy notes preparations for an attack by the RF Armed Forces on Seversk in order to cut off the only road along which the Severodonetsk grouping can fully retreat if it decides to leave Lisichansk and Severodonetsk in an organized manner. Seversk is actively preparing for defense.

8. Izyum.
Positional battles in the area of Kamyshevakhi, Dolgenkiy, Kurulka.
Fighting is going on in the Bogorodichny area in order to capture Svyatogorsk in order to encircle or force the retreat of the AFU grouping holding Svetogorsk.

The enemy expects an early resumption of the offensive of the Izyum grouping on Slavyansk or Barvenkovo. The grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was reinforced by forces withdrawn from the Kharkov direction and transferred from Dnepropetrovsk.

9. Kharkov.
Positional battles on the line Cossack Lopan-Liptsy-Ternovoe-Rubezhnoye. Attempts by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to advance in this direction ended in heavy losses (especially in the Ternovoye area), after which the hostilities again took on a positional character. The plans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to push the Russian troops to the border failed, limiting themselves to the occupation of several villages on the outskirts of Kharkov and north of Chuguev.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are clearly not planning active offensive actions near Kharkov at this stage, limiting themselves to holding down actions.

10. Kherson.
The attack attempt of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Davydov Brod area ended in much the same way as the attack attempt in the Gulyai-Pole area - the strike group came under artillery and aviation fire and suffered heavy losses. The fighting took on a positional character.

Nevertheless, the enemy clearly plans to continue probing the possibility of advancing northwest of Kherson from Krivoy Rog and Nikopol, where armored vehicles and artillery are being accumulated. We can expect an intensification of hostilities in this area in the coming weeks.

Odessa, Nikolaev, Marinka, Ugledar, Gulyaipole, Velyka Novoselovka - no changes.

Al-Qaida and Islamic Emirate Relationship 'Remains Close’: UN
[ToloNews] "The relationship between the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
and al-Qaeda remains close, with the latter celebrating the former’s success and renewing its pledge of allegiance to [Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada]," a UN report said.

The Islamic Emirate has yet to comment on this latest claim but has earlier denied reports of the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

The report estimated an approximate presence of "180 to 400 fighters affiliated with Al-Qaeda" from "Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistan" who are settled in "Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar, Nimruz, Paktika and Zabul provinces."
The UN Security Council released a report by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team which assessed the presence of al-Qaeda and ISIS groups in Afghanistan.

"Member State assessments thus far suggest that al-Qaeda has a safe haven under the Taliban and increased freedom of action. Ayman al-Zawahiri
...Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area assuming he's not dead like Mullah Omar. He lost major face when he ordered the nascent Islamic State to cease and desist and merge with the orthodox al-Qaeda spring, al-Nusra...
has issued more frequent recorded messages since August, and there is now proof of life for him as recently as February 2022," the report said.

The report estimated an approximate presence of "180 to 400 fighters affiliated with al-Qaeda" from "Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Pakistain" who are settled in "Ghazni, Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, Kandahar, Nimruz, Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
and Zabul provinces."

"The Islamic Emirate has yet to reach a final discussion regarding this issue. The officials of the Islamic Emirate should provide final assurances in this regard," said Shir Hassan Hassan, an international relations analyst.

"After the killing of (the late Osama bin Laden
...... who used to be alive but now he's not......
), the al-Qaeda has become a diminished organization. In fact, al-(Qaeda) is not an important danger to the world," said Torek Farhadi, a political analyst.

"These are the excuses for the Islamic Emirate. The Islamic Emirate should clarify its stance about whether it has a link with al-Qaeda or not. If not, then clearly deny it," said Sayed Ishaq Gailani, leader of the National Solidarity Movement of Afghanistan.

The report said that " Taliban are starting to see the National Resistance® Front challenge fading while recognizing ISIS-K as a more long-term and serious threat."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Severodonetsk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military blogger identified as Donetsky:

Quote from Chechen president Ramzen Kadyrov:
[DonRFLiveJournal]
"That's it! Severodonetsk is under our complete control. The fascists have been defeated. All their positions have been destroyed. The city has been liberated. The inhabitants can breathe easy. From now on, nothing threatens them anymore.

This is simply a brilliant result that our fighters have achieved under the leadership of dear BROTHER, Assistant to the Head of the Chechen Republic on the power bloc of Apta Alaudinov in close cooperation with all the involved forces of the Ministry of Defense and the people's militia of the LPR.

I will not hide that it was originally planned to liberate Severodonetsk in a week, but today I made adjustments and set the task of taking the city under control in three days. As a result, our fighters coped even faster - in three hours. All Bandera detachments shamefully fled from Severodonetsk as soon as they learned that the fighters from the Chechen Republic had begun to clean up the city "

Unlike many, I have a normal attitude towards the Chechens, there are no extra hands at the feast and in the battle, and thanks to everyone who helps in the liberation of Donbass. But this does not negate small clarifications:

1. All the same, the Ministry of Defense and the Corps are in the first place. Cities are taken by infantry in cooperation with artillery and tanks. The National Guard cleans up and acts as part of the infantry forces. It is difficult, risky and honorable, but it is superfluous to shift the accents.

2. Completely Severodonetsk is not taken. The enemy keeps a minimum of industrial and suburbs. Yes, and in the center - there is no photo and video evidence. It's not that I don't believe - I want to assure you of the good, but no. That's when they will be ... And so - street battles in the city have been going on for a long time, there is undoubtedly progress, but it's too early to talk about the end of history.

3. Beyond Severodonetsk - Lisichansk, so it is premature to speak of the end of the pocket, to put it mildly. There will be many more fights. And heavy.

4. The very fact of taking the city is gratifying, but without boilers, small and large, in general terms it does not give anything. For if they withdraw the troops from the pocket, these troops, having gained experience in urban battles, will strengthen the second triangle - Slavyansk-Kramatorsk-Artemovsk. And if they retreat from there too, they will receive a grouping of hardened combat-ready troops capable, after rest and replenishment, of attacking themselves or defending themselves in any city.

At the same time, before leaving, such a defense group will turn any city into ruins and inflict losses on us. And there is no boiler. There is the main route, which is under fire control quite tightly, and the second route, which is partially under fire. Both can be used if there is no choice.

5. Withdrawal means that the enemy has changed his mind about dying en masse, and moves on to flexible tactics. This is not good. We have few people. We will either have to sharply increase the number, or there will be problems. There is nothing good in the fact that the fool grows wiser. First of all, for his opponents. War is not taken cities, war is the destroyed enemy troops. At what not so much people, how many structures. It is very difficult to restore them.

So... So it's premature to rejoice. There are still many fights and many problems ahead. The general dynamics is positive, yes, as well as the fact that we are moving forward, and they are moving away, but it’s too early to fall into enthusiasm.

Moreover, the enemy is not far exhausted. In the Kherson region, he launched a counterattack, as a result of which he did not achieve significant success, although it was stated on his part that this was a breakthrough as far as New Kakhovka, but there was progress, albeit insignificant and with losses. This is precisely a counterattack, strictly according to military science, to divert forces from the main front, but our poverty in people, if the militants continue their attacks, will require strengthening the direction at the expense of others.

Yes, and in the North of the Kharkov region, according to the mind, the grouping should be increased and Kharkov itself should be returned to the fire control zone of relatively simple and cheap weapons. This is the rear of the enemy. There is a garrison, a repair base, a logistics hub ... In a word, the most important place for which Iskanders are still expensive to spend. And so in the South we have to calibrate Krivoy Rog, which, if we advanced another 30 kilometers, would be under the blows of heavy artillery and MLRS. By the way, the videoconferencing system is working successfully - both for railway nodes and locations.

If we reduce the message of the text to a single denominator, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation need to increase the size of the group. Actions are taking place on the broadest front, all the same, comparable in length to the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Due to air supremacy and the quality of artillery, we keep it with small forces, but serious deep operations require a different approach.

And I will end with positive things - the supply of heavy weapons to the militants is extremely weak. Harpoon missiles, according to the Ukrainian media, were brought in earlier, and it was with them that our ship was hit, heavy MLRS will receive ammunition with a range of up to 70 km, which turns them into ordinary Hurricanes, and Abrams and planes with other Patriots do not shine.

At the same time, supplies of artillery continue, and this is the main problem. Our war is artillery. And all these Wishlists of Kyiv, they are Wishlists. Deliveries of such weapons would bring the conflict to a new level. Yes, and NATO does not need it, a local long conflict suits them more than.

Iraq
Assyrian Peshmerga graduate opens door for further Christian participation
[Rudaw] In a rare occurrence that earned the high praise of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, a Christian on Thursday graduated from Zakho Military College in Duhok. The Assyrian’s graduation may have inspired scores of other young Christians in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, many of whom previously viewed the military as an unsuitable option, paving the way for them to enlist in the Peshmerga forces.

Eldad Apraim Yaldakhaei, 25, was always passionate about the military, and hoped to join the Peshmerga forces ever since he was a little boy. While Yaldakhaei was initially concerned that his religion might serve as a tool for discrimination, he decided to chase his dreams anyway and told Rudaw English over the phone on Saturday that "it was all worth it" in the end.

"I thought that they wouldn't prioritize me because I was a Christian and maybe I would be disadvantaged in the college, but I applied and they accepted around 500 students among more than 7,000 applicants for the college," Yaldakhaei said proudly, mentioning that a degree in military sciences is "very special" and will greatly assist him in the future.

While delivering a speech to the graduating class of Zakho Military College on Thursday, President Barzani specifically praised Yaldakhaei for being the only Christian graduate among 499 other Peshmerga officers, and encouraged other minorities, such as Yazidis and Turkmen, to enlist in the force. The president's remarks have served as a source of pride to the young Assyrian Christian and his family.

"I brought pride to my home, my family, my village, and all Christians," he said with delight, when asked about the president’s comments. "It was a very big deal when someone like President Barzani distinctively calls out your name and congratulates you among 499 others."

Yaldakhaei's fears of discrimination were put to rest upon his arrival at the college. Differentiation on the basis of religion or ethnicity was entirely nonexistent in his academy, he explained, and during the nearly two and a half years he spent at the college, he was never discriminated against by his superiors or fellow students.

"I had many friends, and not once did they ask me questions about religion. There, it's all about humanity. Everybody would pray their respective prayers and we had no differences whatsoever," he said, adding that "we are all like brothers."

The unorthodox decision by Yaldakhaei to enlist in the Peshmerga and his subsequent success has set the scene for further Christian participation in the force. After the popularity he attained from being recognized by President Barzani, scores of young Christians who had previously refrained from joining the military due to safety concerns because of their religious background have been calling Yaldakhaei for advice on how to apply to the college, he said.

The decades-long conflict between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has brought devastation to the Assyrian village of Chalik, which Yaldakhaei is originally from. He expressed concern about his village's state due to frequent Ottoman Turkish bombardments and wished that his people could safely return to their homeland again.

LPR forces occupy a bridgehead in Severodonetsk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] The forces of the LPR, with the support of the Russian Armed Forces, wedged into the line of defense of the Ukrainian troops in Severodonetsk and occupied a bridgehead in the city, said the official representative of the People's Militia of the Republic, Ivan Filiponenko, in a video published on the department's Telegram channel.

"We repulsed the enemy in front of Severodonetsk, directly occupied a bridgehead in the city, from where they continue to develop success," he said.

Filiponenko added that the Ukrainian security forces are hiding in residential buildings.

"The enemy does not want to fight for settlements, he prefers to go into residential areas, hide behind the backs of local residents," he said.

According to a RIA Novosti correspondent, the nationalists are hitting residential areas that they had previously abandoned.

On Friday, the People's Militia of the LPR, together with Russian fighters, blocked the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the city and cut off all their escape routes. As the representative of the defense department Andrey Marochko noted, one bridge from the city was destroyed, the second will not withstand military equipment, and the third is controlled by the forces of the LPR.

Ukrainian version:
The enemy is storming Severodonetsk, the fighting continues to this day. Due to the Russian shelling in the Luhansk region, there are dead and wounded, - Gaidai.

The citizens of Severodonetsk celebrate the anniversary of the city in the basements, two people were found dead due to the Russian shelling in the region, there are wounded, about 60 houses were destroyed.

The chairman of Lugansk OVA Sergey Gaidai reported about it , informs Censor.NET.

He explained that during continuous shelling, it is not always possible to quickly reach places of new destruction and check them for the presence or absence of victims.

Therefore, according to Gaidai, based on the daily growing number of damaged homes, there may be more deaths.

The situation is extremely aggravated. On May 28, a Russian shell hit a high-rise building in Lysychansk. A girl died on the spot, four locals were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. It was a difficult time for the city. "The situation in Severodonetsk is even more difficult - the enemy is storming. Fighting continues to this day

Regarding the destruction of the housing stock: Severodonetsk - 13 houses, Gorske - 11, Toshkivka - seven, Vrubivka - six, Nyrkove - two.

It should also be noted that in the area of Bobrovo, the enemy suffered losses and retreated to previously occupied positions. However, the assault aircraft struck airstrikes in the Ustynivka area.

Gaidai reminds that seven Russian attacks were repulsed at the front over the past 24 hours, one tank and six enemy vehicles were destroyed. Air defense units destroyed Orlan-10 UAVs. Джерело:

Censor.net editor Yuri Butusov from his Facebook page:
Ukrainian paratroopers of the 81st Paratroop Assault Brigade in battle in Severodonetsk destroyed an entire group of Russian soldiers and captured two soldiers from the 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade - Artyom Khokhlov, a mercenary named from Grozny, Russia, and Grigory Gudzhiev.

The opponent entered Severodonetsk from both sides, fierce street fights are taking place in the city.

I was near the Mir Hotel two days ago. The opponent is advancing from this direction.
Apparently Russian troops occupied the Mir Hotel two days ago, but have been driven back.
Now there is no clear front line in Severodonetsk, battles sometimes occur at the shortest distances. Russian troops are trying to break through on a broad front.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russian regimental commander mentioned by Russian MoD
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The heroism of Major Dmitry Mikhailov, shown by him during the Russian special operation of the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine, was told on May 29 at the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Major Dmitry Mikhailov commanded the motorized rifle regiment entrusted to him during an offensive operation to liberate one of the settlements from Kiev militants. Despite the increased resistance of the enemy, the regiment's units defeated a large enemy grouping and established control over the settlement.

Under the personal leadership of Major Mikhailov, three units of the BTR-80, one T-72 tank and many foreign-made anti-tank systems were eliminated. After the liberation of the settlement, Mikhailov organized the defense of the occupied positions and repelled three attacks by Ukrainian nationalists who tried to return the settlement under their control.

Russian motorized infantry, operating under mortar fire from Kyiv militants, managed to counterattack the enemy, create conditions for the regiment's units to seize the initiative and deprive Ukrainian nationalists of the opportunity to continue the offensive. When holding the defense, no losses were allowed among the personnel of the motorized rifle regiment.

Earlier IA REGNUM reported on the heroism and courage of the commander of a motorized rifle platoon, Lieutenant Andrey Shitov . During a long battle, a platoon under the command of a lieutenant destroyed the fortifications with machine gun and grenade launcher crews of the radicals, which made it possible to break through the line of enemy defense and contributed to the liberation of the settlement from the Kyiv radicals.

Residents of Severodonetsk rejoiced at the arrival of the forces of the Russian Federation and the LPR

[REGNUM] Residents of Severodonetsk expressed their joy at the fact that fighters from the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) and the RF Armed Forces entered this city of Donbass. This was reported on May 29 by Izvestia.

A man named Aleksey told reporters that people were waiting for the arrival of the allied forces of the LPR and Russia on May 9, 2022. “ We wanted to note. We waited now,"said Alexei.

He said that it had been “especially hard” for the residents of Severodonetsk over the past two weeks, noting that the Ukrainian military did not let non-combatants out of their apartments and equipped firing points in residential buildings.

"Well, somehow we survive, without electricity, water, gas, communications, by candlelight. In a complete vacuum, in the basement," a local resident told reporters, noting that in such conditions the inhabitants of the basement of the house lived for three months.

"It’s scary to go out into the street, there is no bread, but your guys gave bread," said another woman, who later said hello to relatives from the Urals.

Earlier , REGNUM reported that units of the People's Militia (NM) of the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) and the RF Armed Forces occupied a bridgehead in Severodonetsk. Ivan Filiponenko , official of the LPR defense department, noted that the allied forces "continue to develop success."

Brazen attack in Thai Deep South shatters Ramadan truce
Filed under Page 1: War in Terror on spec. Based on subsequent information we’ll know whether it needs to be moved to Page 3.
[BenarNews] A dramatic attack shattered a nearly two-month-long pause in violence in Thailand’s insurgency-wracked Deep South, when more than 10 button men armed with assault rifles and grenades hit a cop shoppe along the Malaysian border late Wednesday, injuring three security officials, police said.

By Thursday, no one had yet grabbed credit for the attack in the Tak Bai district of Narathiwat province, officials said. Police said it could be the work of smugglers or disgruntled forces of Evil left out of ongoing peace talks between the Thai government and BRN (Barisan Revolusi Nasional), the largest Death Eater group in Thailand’s southern border region.

In the attack — the biggest eruption of violence since the two sides agreed in early April to a 40-day truce to last through Ramadan — police said the button men hurled explosives and opened fire with automatic rifles at a nearby customs office and a convenience store, in addition to the marine cop shoppe along the Kolok River that separates Thailand from Malaysia.

Afghanistan
Jawzjan Residents Complain that Armed Nomads Usurp and Destroy Their Land
Afghanistan has their own Fulani — who knew?
[KhaamaPress] Residents of Jawzjan province have recently produced video recordings depicting armed nomads destroying agricultural land. The residents of the province have complained that armed nomads have destroyed and usurped their land.

They claim that nomads have expanded on and usurped dozens of acres of land.

Nomads have been seen in the Abgarmi, Dasht-e Lily, Zumrod, and Quban areas of Jawzjan province since this month, according to a number of residents.

Moreover, local sources told some news hounds that inhabitants of Jawzjan province had complained to the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
several times, but that the Taliban had refused to address their concern and take actions.

According to a resident of Jawzjan province, the Taliban’s negligence was attributable to the Kuchis’ cooperation and connection with Taliban leaders.

The man is accused the Taliban’s deputy governor for Jawzjan province, as well as the head of the Taliban’s court for supporting armed nomad.

Nonetheless, the Taliban have yet to respond to the residents of Jawzjan’s assertions.

The residents of Jawzjan are complaining about the presence of nomads, while nomads have sparked confrontations in other provinces.

Armed nomads are also said to have destroyed agricultural land in the Parwan province’s Sheikh Ali district.

...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
officials.

On Saturday, 28th of May, the Bakhtar state news agency stated that Taliban forces had discovered and apprehended a man who was attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition through Spin Boldak.

Four Kalashnikovs, three M16s, three PK machine guns, 900 heavy machine gun bullets, 33 grenades, and other ammunition were discovered with the detainee, according to the report.

Taliban security officials in Ghazni province had previously announced the arrest of three people in connection with weapons smuggling into Pakistain.

Military equipment is alleged to have been smuggled out of Afghanistan and into neighboring countries, mainly Pakistain, following the fall of the Afghan government.

According to recent reports, US weaponry used in Afghanistan were transferred across Pakistain to Indian Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. The weapons were discovered, according to reports, by Indian officials.

Hijab-clad girls refused permission to attend class in Mangaluru; CM says all have to abide by court order
[OneIndia] Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that everyone should abide by the High Court and the government's orders after the Hijab issue resurfaced in Mangaluru.

"There is no need to create hijab controversy (again), the court has given its order, all have to abide by the court and the government's order. Majority of them, about 99.99 per cent of them, are following it. The syndicate's resolution is also that court order has to be followed...according to me, studies should be important for students," Bommai told the news hounds.

He said that matter is closed "after a meeting." Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya had said on Friday that the college will facilitate admission of Moslem girl students in other institutions if they insist on wearing hijab inside classrooms, PTI reported.

The Vice-Chancellor had said that students wearing hijab will be counselled and an attempt will be made to convince them regarding the need for attending the classes without the headscarf.

The hijab issue had once again come to the fore on Thursday as a group of students from the University College in Mangaluru staged a protest at the campus alleging that a few Moslem girl students are attending classes wearing the headscarf.

The Karnataka High Court on March 15 dismissed petitions filed by a group of Moslem students, seeking permission to wear hijab inside classrooms.

The three-judge bench of the court consisting of Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice J M Khazi further noted that the prescription of school uniform is only a reasonable restriction, constitutionally permissible, which the students cannot object to.

Following the High Court order, the Department of Pre-University Education has made uniforms prescribed by the College Development Committee, compulsory for Pre-University (PU) students from the 2022-23 academic year.

It also states that in case no uniform is prescribed by the College Development Committee or management, students must wear a garment which will "maintain equality and unity, and which does not disturb public order".

To a question on demands for the sacking of textbook revision committee chairperson Rohith Chakratirtha accusing him of "saffronising" school textbooks, by including a lesson regarding RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar's speech and making other changes, Bommai said he would discuss this with Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh on the developments.

"He (Nagesh) is aware of all the developments, I will speak to him and make a decision," he added.

Afghanistan
Iran's Deportation of Afghan Refugees Continues
[ToloNews] The deportation of Afghan refugees by Iran
...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both...
has been continuing, the Ministry of Refugee and Repatriation said, adding that more than 700,000 Afghans have returned to the country since the Islamic Emirate swept into power.

Speaking at a presser in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, the deputy Minister of Refugees and Repatriation put the number of Afghans being deported by Iran between 2,000-3,000 a day.

"Since the Islamic Emirate took power, between 600,000 to 700,000 Afghan refugees have returned home, while many of them were deported by Iran," said Mohammad Arsalah Kharotai, deputy Minister of Refugees and Repatriation.

He called on the Iran government to hold those who mistreated the Afghan refugees accountable.

"We call once again on all countries, particularly from Iran, to treat the Afghan refugees based on international norms," Kharotai said.

Elderly women and kiddies are among the deportees.

The Afghans refugees returning from Iran have complained about the mistreatment they faced in neighboring countries.

"The Iranians treated Afghans badly. They would beat up the Afghans," said Daud, a resident of Ghazni, who has been deported by Iran.

"They were oppressing the Afghans. They were beating the Afghans," said Mohammad Aauz, a resident of Herat.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, Gloria slowly backed away from the eight-foot bull frog. If the creature croaked she would surely be deafened...
an Afghan charity organization in the US donated a shipment worth five million dollars to the vulnerable people in Afghanistan.

"This shipment arrived in Afghanistan. It is worth five million dollars. The shipment includes clothes, socks, blankets, jumpers and boots," said Farhad Safi, a member of the charity.

Philippine Congress officially declares Marcos new president
[BenarNews] The Philippine Congress on Wednesday officially declared Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte-Carpio winners of the May 9 presidential and vice-presidential polls, saying the running mates each garnered about 60 percent of ballots cast in landslide victories.

The declaration was a crowning moment for Marcos, the son and namesake of the late Philippine dictator, as he sealed his quest to follow in his footsteps as president, despite the long and dark shadow of his father’s brutal rule. It also guaranteed that a Duterte would have a top position in the incoming administration as President Rodrigo Duterte exits office at the end of June.

This year’s proclamation of electoral results — the fastest in the country’s history — came after the House of Representatives and Senate convened as a canvassing body a day earlier. Congress noted that lawyers for top opposition candidate Leni Robredo, who received less than half of the votes for Marcos, did not pose any objection.

"We did not sacrifice transparency and authenticity of the results for a speedy count," said Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, who chaired the process, adding that Marcos garnered close to 59 percent of the total presidential votes cast, while Duterte-Carpio, the daughter of the incumbent president, took in 61.5 percent of votes for VP.

Marcos’s inauguration is set for June 30, under the Philippine Constitution, and his first work day will be July 1.

FAMILY PRESENT
Among those attending the announcement on Wednesday were Marcos’s family, including his mother, Imelda. The aging matriarch of the political clan remains a polarizing figure in the Philippines, 36 years after a peaceful people-power revolt removed her dictator husband, Ferdinand E. Marcos, from office.

Marcos Jr.’s sister, Imee Marcos, a senator, said the family was grateful to the Philippine people for giving them a chance to revive the Marcos name.

Imee Marcos said the family had been unduly judged through the years after her father went into exile in Hawaii in 1986, where he died three years later. The elder Marcos had ruled the nation for more than two decades and had declared martial law in 1972.

Following his death, Imelda Marcos and their three children were allowed to return home and were never barred from running for public office.

In 2016, the family supported Rodrigo Duterte’s successful presidential campaign, the same year Marcos lost the vice presidential race to Robredo. One of Duterte’s first official acts as president was to transfer the remains of the Marcos patriarch to the National Heroes’ Cemetery in Manila.

"Yes we’re very, very grateful for a second chance as it were, because we have gone through so much. They have filed many cases against us, on top of their criticism and oppression. Our family really suffered for the past almost four decades," Imee Marcos told news hounds.

"So I thank everyone who trusted us, to our loyalists, the Ilocanos and to those who believed that the country really needs strong leadership," she said, referring to the people of the Ilocos region, the family’s northern bailiwick.

Sudan lifts state of emergency imposed since military take over
[AlAhram] Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Sunday lifted a state of emergency imposed since last year's military take over, the ruling sovereign council said.

Burhan "issued a decree lifting the state of emergency nationwide," the council said in a statement.

The order was made "to prepare the atmosphere for a fruitful and meaningful dialogue that achieves stability for the transitional period", it added.

Sunday's decision came after a meeting with senior military officials recommending the state of emergency be lifted and people detained under an emergency law be freed.

It also came after the latest calls by UN special representative Volker Perthes for removing the state of emergency, following the killing of two protesters during anti-coup protests on Saturday.

Sudan has been rocked by mass protests since the military take over, which have been met by a violent mostly peaceful crackdown that has left nearly 100 people dead and hundreds maimed, according to pro-democracy medics.

Hundreds of activists have also been rounded up in the clampdown under emergency laws.

On Sunday, military officials also recommended allowing the live TV unit of the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
-based network Al Jazeera to resume operations in Sudan, after authorities banned it in January for "unprofessional" coverage of protests.

Sudan has been reeling from deepening unrest since Burhan led the October 25 coup, upending a fragile transition following the 2019 ouster of president Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
The military takeover triggered widespread international condemnation and punitive measures, including crucial aid cuts by Western governments pending the resumption of the transition to civilian rule.

Sudan, one of the world's poorest countries, is also struggling from a plunging economy due to decades of international isolation and mismanagement under Bashir.

The United Nations

...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
and regional bloc IGAD, have been pushing to facilitate Sudanese-led talks to resolve the crisis.

Western governments have backed the UN-AU-IGAD bid and urged Sudanese factions to participate in the process.

Burhan has pledged to free political detainees to set the stage for talks among Sudanese factions.

Last month, Sudanese authorities released several anti-coup civilian leaders arrested in the crackdown.

#4  I must be late to the party. When they say “Allied Forces” to whom are they referring? The Ukrainian Army and ?

Story was written by Ukrainians, so yes "allied forces" refer to Ukrainian forces and whatever else is available to help.

Please note, the Russians use the same term when referring to the Russian Army and the formations of the breakaway republics.

US Army Ranger veteran remembers fellow soldier who saved his life
[Garowe] Nearly 29 years have passed, but U.S. Army veteran Jeff Struecker still vividly remembers the day a fellow soldier saved his life and died in the process as their convoy came under attack during the battle that became the basis for the movie "Black Hawk Down."

Struecker, a former Army Ranger who lives in Columbus, Georgia, was leading the convoy in October 1993 as it tried to return to its base after extracting downed helicopter Ranger Pvt. Todd Blackburn in the battle of Mogadishu, Somalia.

"These three Humvees just creeping down the road came under gunfire from hundreds of different directions at the same time. I mean from every doorway, every window ... every rooftop, there was gunfire and grenades and rockets," Struecker, a retired Army major and chaplain, told a Decatur audience Thursday.

Suddenly, the danger turned personal and immediate.

"Down the road on the right side of the Humvee, hiding, waiting for us was a Somali gunman."

Struecker was an easy target, but then his comrade, Dominick Pilla, and the gunman spotted each other.

"Pilla and this gunman exchanged gunfire at the exact same time, and they both killed each other."

Struecker said he would not be alive if Pilla had not been next to him operating a machine gun.

Struecker said he will remember Pilla on Memorial Day and that Monday's holiday is a time to remember men and women who have served in combat and bit the dust.

"It's one of those bittersweet holidays where I thank God that I had the chance to serve with great men and women, but it's sad that they're not with us anymore," Struecker said.

Struecker recalled the danger of the incident in Somalia and said, "I was absolutely certain I was going to die." But his strong faith in God and knowing where he would go when he died got him through the situation, he said, and helped him exhibit a calm in a battle that fellow soldiers recognized. He said it made him realize he should share his faith with soldiers who didn't have it as a bulwark against fear.

The audience of about 150 Decatur Kiwanis Club members and guests also heard Struecker discuss his participation in the invasion of Panama, Operation Desert Storm, and more than a dozen combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was awarded the Silver Star as well as other medals for his combat service and bravery.

Struecker spent his last years in the service as a chaplain in airborne and ranger units. He retired after almost 23 years of active service and was inducted into the U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Fame.

Marianthe Snyder, from Hartselle, is an Army wife and said Struecker's speech was inspirational on many levels. She said it was a good reminder for this time of year of what military men and women go through.

Around Memorial Day, "there are several different things that go through my mind because we have friends that have lost sons and we have friends that have been lost. But there's a sense of just never-ending gratefulness, just so thankful. It's just a debt I can't ever payback," Snyder said.

Austin Johnson, Giselle Lozano and Daivon "Deuce" Fouche from the Decatur High School JROTC attended the meeting. All are planning to join the military after high school and said they were inspired by Struecker's speech.

Lozano said Memorial Day is a special day "where we can appreciate veterans and anybody who has ever given their life for America and for other people."

Charles Rogers, from Decatur, attended the meeting and said Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have fallen and those who have survived.

"The way the country is right now, I think it's more important than ever," Rogers said.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 29th, 2022
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrspondent] 23:25 European unity in sanctions against Russia is slowly beginning to collapse, said Vice Chancellor, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, commenting on the failure of today's negotiations on an oil embargo against Russia, writes Bild.

23:24 The Pentagon announced that it had sent Ukraine a new batch of M777 howitzers. The C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft was loaded at an air base in California.

23:03 In the Kherson region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on a counteroffensive in the Beryslav direction and advanced 9 km, the invaders are retreating to positions that are not advantageous for them, said Sergey Khlan, deputy of the Kherson Regional Council: "The Russians are just running away, so now it is very important that we continue this offensive" .

23:01 Poland will strengthen the defense of the country, said President Andrzej Duda. According to him, Poland plans to increase the army to 250,000 soldiers and 50,000 soldiers of the TRO, and the already existing 10,000 US soldiers on its territory were only an "auxiliary force."

22:29 Lavrov told the French TV channel TF1 that the "liberation" of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions "is an absolute priority." At the same time, the inhabitants of the "liberated" territories, according to him, will decide their own future: "They must decide for themselves in what environment they will continue to exist."

22:25 This week, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a successful counterattack south of Krivoy Rog, the head of the military administration of the city Alexander Vilkul said: "A successful counterattack was carried out south of Krivoy Rog. 63 invaders and 19 units of enemy equipment were destroyed, including modern T tanks -72, Grad multiple launch rocket system, artillery, helicopters and one SU-35 aircraft.

21:58 Melitopol residents express a clear pro-Ukrainian position: in the first weeks of the occupation, these were rallies of many thousands, now they are a partisan movement, Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov said on the air of the telethon.

21:30 Russian troops fired on one of the districts of Kharkov after it became known about Zelensky's arrival in the city. The occupiers fired at the area of the village of Zhukovsky and the northern part of Kharkov, reports Suspіlne. The shelling damaged houses, cars, shops and garages. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, on the air of a single telethon, confirmed that the city had been shelled.

21:17 Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on the air of the telethon that Ukraine has concluded almost all agreements on the supply of weapons, but their implementation takes time: "The process of supplying weapons is really long. This is very different from how we, say, something shopping or even going abroad."

Malyar explained the duration of the process, including by the fact that Western arms manufacturers already had certain obligations at the time of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. In addition, the transit of weapons through the territory of other countries is “much more difficult than just carrying something in a suitcase for an individual,” since this requires permission at the highest level.

21:09 Kalush Orchestra, together with the Serhiy Prytula Foundation, sold at a charity auction a crystal microphone for Eurovision 2022 for $900,000 and a pink Panama hat for UAH 11 million. The proceeds will go to the PD-2 drone complex for the Ukrainian army.

20:50 Zelensky said in an evening video message that during today's trip to Kharkiv he fired the head of the SBU of the Kharkiv region Roman Dudin: "I arrived, figured it out, fired the head of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region for not working to protect the city from the first days of a full-scale war, but thought only of himself personally. What motives - the law enforcement officers will find out. "

20:28 Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak said that the EU again failed to agree on an oil embargo against Russia, since Hungary "requires additional exceptions." Also, some countries do not agree with the ban on citizens of the Russian Federation to buy real estate in the EU (previously Cyprus opposed this). According to the journalist, on the morning of Monday, May 30, the ambassadors will gather for a new meeting, where they will again try to agree.

20:10 EU countries again failed to reach an agreement on an embargo on Russian oil, reports Reuters.

20:07 Another Russian ship with grain stolen in Ukraine arrived in Syria, CNN reports. Bulk carrier Matros Pozynich is currently in Latakia. This is one of three ships that loaded grain in Sevastopol. It was last seen in Sevastopol on May 19 and then tracked as it passed through the Bosphorus and south along the Turkish coast. According to analysts, the ship can carry about 30,000 tons of grain.

20:03 The Russians destroyed several tons of grain in Mariupol. At the second berth of the Mariupol commercial port, they began to ship Ukrainian grain to Russian ships, MRPL reports. The director of the Mariupol Commercial Sea Port, Igor Barsky, said that the Russians use the Neptune crane to load grain.

“During the loading, a fire broke out. I don’t know if the ship or the grain itself caught fire, but the invaders took and filled the holds with grain with water and now they don’t know what to do with it all. They simply destroyed the grain,” said Barsky.

20:01 Payments on Russian government bonds have not been received on the accounts of foreign investors as of the evening of May 27, writes Bloomberg. If the money is not credited to the accounts within 30 days, a default will be declared on Russian foreign obligations.

19:59 Turkey still does not agree to the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO and is not going to change its position yet. As Erdogan said, negotiations with two candidates for membership in the alliance did not go at the expected level: "They are dishonest and insincere. We cannot repeat the mistake made in the past by countries that accept and support terrorists."

19:56 Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said following a telephone conversation with Putin that his country would sign a new long-term (three-year) contract for the supply of Russian gas. Serbia's previous ten-year contract with Gazprom ends on May 31.

The policy of Serbia, which seeks to join the EU, now contradicts the policy of the bloc - the country does not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, does not refuse Russian energy carriers and remains almost the main ally of the Kremlin in Europe.

19:51 A pro-Ukrainian action took place in the city park of the occupied Melitopol. Local activists gathered a rally and sang the anthem of Ukraine. The organization was carried out by the underground movement Yellow Ribbon . Several dozen people came to the meeting with posters, flags and blue-and-yellow ribbons, according to local publics.

19:46 The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that the main goal of the enemy now is the encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Lisichansk and Severodonetsk. Thus, the occupiers were actively fighting in the Severodonetsk, Bakhmut and Kurakhovsky directions.

In the Kharkov direction, the enemy launched an air strike on the settlement of Prudyanka. In the Slavic direction, he carried out assault actions in the direction of Pasek - Bogorodichnoye, but had no success, retreated to previously occupied positions. Separate enemy units have been withdrawn outside the Liman.

19:41 Orban's chief propagandist, Zsolt Bayer, equated Ukraine with Nazi Germany. According to him, Kyiv's revision of the role of Russian literature in the educational and cultural space is similar to the actions of the Nazis in relation to the Jewish nation: "It was already in Nazi Germany. Goebbels already said so."

He also called into question the existence of Ukrainian culture and the Ukrainian nation as such, illustrating his words with an image with Russian signatures that the territories of Ukraine were allegedly not Ukrainian, but were taken or received from Russia and Poland.

19:17 In Sevastopol, at the 13th shipyard of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, three large landing ships of project 775 are under repair at once, Krym.Realii reports. One ship without a tail number is moored at the entrance to the bay, the second, also without a number - in the middle, and the ship Azov (tail number 151) - in the vicinity of the bay.

The Black Sea Fleet has four Project 775 large landing ships: Caesar Kunikov (tail number 158), Novocherkassk (142), Yamal (156) and Azov (151). In the oil harbor (Grafskaya Bay) there are two more large landing ships of project 775. So the total number of BDK of this project in the bays of Sevastopol is five.

18:59 Germany will provide Ukraine with 1 billion euros in grant assistance, said German Ambassador to Kiev Anka Feldhusen after a meeting with Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko.

18:43 In the Nikolaev region from May 30, beaches and other recreation areas on the territory of the Ochakov city, Black Sea and Kutsurub united communities will not work, the authorities said.

18:38 Moscow-appointed "deputy head of the Kherson military-civilian administration" Kirill Stremousov said in an interview with Reuters that the issue of joining the region to the Russian Federation will be decided no earlier than winter, but most likely "by next year."

"This will not happen by autumn. We are preparing the administrative system, and then closer to next year we will see how things are," Stremousov said. At the same time, he did not rule out that a referendum could be held: "We will announce later when some kind of vote or plebiscite is planned, but it will not be today or tomorrow, because our first task is to restore order in the Kherson region."

18:30 The number of civilian casualties in Ukraine is dozens of times greater than military casualties, Shmyhal said: "The number of civilian casualties is dozens of times higher than the number of military casualties. This proves that the Russian army and Russia are fighting against the civilian population of Ukraine, and not with our armed forces."

17:47 Today, the border areas of Chernihiv and Sumy regions were shelled ten times from the territory of Russia, the State Border Service reported. In particular, the territory of the Novgorod-Seversky district of Chernihiv region was shelled nine times - the border guards counted 33 explosions of Russian shells. Another five mortar mines exploded on the outskirts of the Shostka district of the Sumy region.

17:35 Mass riots "mobilized" into the Russian army are brewing in ORDLO. According to human rights activists, men en masse refuse to become "cannon fodder". In this regard, protest actions are being prepared by "conscripts" and their wives against the "authority" of pseudo-republics.

According to the Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova, there have already been recorded cases of firefights between forcibly mobilized local residents and Russian servicemen. The "military procurator" of the ORDO dispersed the dissatisfied, but this only aggravated the situation. Human rights activists report that over the past two weeks, thousands of people have laid down their arms in the ranks of the "army" of ORDLO.

17:19 Yermak does not rule out that Russia, in addition to the food crisis, will start gas blackmailing Europe with the onset of cold weather: "Given that the Kremlin now wants to exchange the unblocking of Ukrainian ports for the lifting of sanctions, one can understand Moscow's ultimate goal. And right now it is important to show strength and unity of the Western world Economic support for Ukraine, duties and embargoes on Russian oil, sanctions against the banking system of the Russian Federation, secondary sanctions, as well as exactly the weapons that our state asks for - this is a strong, common response. Attacks on Russia must be quick, without hesitation, otherwise the Kremlin will try to split the EU and continue its blackmail."

16:37 Mayor of Nikolaev Alexander Senkevich reported that three high-rise buildings were damaged during the morning shelling, as of 16:00 it is known about two wounded, one more person was killed. Explosions are now heard in the city again.

16:35 Journalist Rikard Jozwiak writes that EU ambassadors are going to meet tonight to adopt a new package of sanctions against Russia. According to him, a complete oil embargo is not planned, but only a ban on the delivery of Russian oil by ship.

16:33 The war in Ukraine is not a local conflict or a humanitarian crisis, Podolyak said: "Why is the world paying more attention to Ukraine than to Africa and the East? - such a narrative is promoted by Russian agents of influence. Only Russian barbarians can weigh tragedies on the scales. War in "Ukraine is not a local conflict or a humanitarian crisis. It is a question of what the world will be like tomorrow. Allowing Russia to win will open a Pandora's box and throw humanity back into the dark ages. Every hypocritical autocrat will be able to provoke territorial conflicts, seize countries, destroy peoples. Stop Russia "is the common mission of civilized countries. There is still time, but it's time to hurry."

16:29 Because of the hostilities, the Bakhmut and Kramatorsk districts of Donbass were left without electricity, 115 miners in Toretsk were blocked underground, said the head of the Donetsk OVA Pavel Kirilenko. 16:26 The Czech Defense Ministry intends to appeal to the government with a request to provide more funds for military assistance to Ukraine. The amount should be about 600-700 million Czech crowns (up to $30 million), said Czech Defense Minister Yana Chernokhova.

16:11 Poland hands over AHS Krab self-propelled artillery mounts to Ukraine, Polskie Radio reports. We are talking about three batteries - 18 units of self-propelled 155-mm howitzers. The Polish army has already trained 100 Ukrainian servicemen to operate these weapons. Thus, together with 12 PzH 2000 (from Germany and the Netherlands), Ukraine will already have 30 tracked 155-mm self-propelled guns.

This is one of the most modern artillery pieces ... Germany will soon supply "It's a weapon for Ukraine. So it's not that Germany doesn't supply anything or supplies too little. It's true that Berlin can't fulfill all of Ukraine's wishes. This creates a certain tension."

15:42 Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin said in an interview with the BBC that Russia "does not and did not have a goal to capture Kiev": "None of our leaders, neither the president, nor anyone else has ever said that we would like to capture Kiev. I do not believe that it is possible to capture or occupy Kiev. It is a big city."

Kelin also stressed that Russia is not increasing the number of its troops in Ukraine: "We will figure it out through an operation conducted by conventional means. A limited operation using conventional means. You may have noticed that we have not increased the number of our troops. We believe that there are enough of them, to deal with this situation."

14:53 Podolyak on effective measures against Russia: "As soon as it became known that Ukraine would nevertheless receive MLRS with a normal range (100+ km), the Russians immediately fell into hysterical hysterics. A wild squeal is now over the entire Russian swamp: " Only not this! Just don't give them long-range jet systems! Only not a weapon of retaliation! "... What does this mean? Only one thing. Russia is capable of fighting exclusively against unarmed civilians and immediately "supervises" its own pants if the opponent receives an equivalent weapon. Conclusion? There is nowhere easier. Two wild Russian cries: "cancel sanctions!" and "we beg on our knees: don't give Ukrainians MLRS!" - direct proof of the extreme effectiveness of these two steps.

Chechens?? Perish the thought!
Yes, yes, that was sarcasm. Surely you guessed, dear Reader.

The second day it is loaded with Ukrainian coiled steel/rolled metal. Destination port - Rostov-on-Don.

13:56 In Ukraine, the company commander of the 106th Airborne Division of the Russian Federation Captain Alexander Vygulyar was destroyed, the Strategic Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports: "Vygulyar reconstructed the Vyazemsky airborne operation together with his company three months ago near Vyazma, but when meeting with Ukrainian soldiers, this did not help".

13:42 Kramatorsk and all neighboring cities were left without electricity. According to Mayor Alexander Goncharenko, a high-voltage power line was broken as a result of hostilities. Repair is complicated by the danger of shelling.

13:19 In Kherson, the Russians have appointed a security guard to run the theatre. According to Suspіlne, the new "director" of the Kherson Regional Music and Drama Theater was the security guard Valery Sheludko. The real general director, artistic director of the Mykola Kulish Kherson Theater, Oleksandr Knigu, was interrogated by the Russians back in March, but was released due to publicity, and later he managed to leave the city.

12:18 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that in Krivoy Rog, high-precision missiles destroyed "a large arsenal of Ukrainian troops on the territory of one of the enterprises."

He also said that reinforcements approached the APU in the region. The Ukrainian defenders drove the enemy out of Toshkovka and entrenched themselves in it. 10:17 In Mariupol, in the premises of the Shchiriy Kum supermarket in the Levoberezhny district along Svoboda Ave., Russians have equipped a dump of corpses. The bodies of the dead, which were washed out of the graves during an attempt to restore water supply, are brought here and dumped in a heap, said Petr Andryushchenko, an adviser to the mayor. The city has a catastrophic shortage of people for burial and the capacity of makeshift morgues. Moscow has already launched a separate recruiting campaign for pathologists.

10:09 British intelligence notes that Russia lies and misleads, even when it offers humanitarian initiatives. So, on May 25, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Moscow was ready to provide a corridor for the export of Ukrainian grain by the Black Sea in exchange for easing sanctions and demining the area around the port of Odessa.

Rudenko's request is entirely in line with Russia's information strategy to provide, albeit unconvincing, alternative narratives to confuse the audience. In this case, Ukraine planted naval mines because of the real threat of an amphibious landing from the Black Sea. Meanwhile, Russia has demonstrated that it is ready to use global food security for its own political purposes, and then present itself as a rational player and blame the West for everything.

Russia's move to ease international sanctions also highlights their impact on the regime, British analysts say.

09:47 Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin said that Moscow does not intend to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He recalled that according to the list of conditions for the use of tactical nuclear weapons, they can be used when it comes to a threat to the existence of a state. "This has nothing to do with the current operation," the ambassador assured.

09:18 Russian military from the 27th Motorized Rifle Brigade from the 1st Tank Army of the Western Military District of the Russian Federation moved their command post, which was located three kilometers from the state border with Ukraine (Ustinka in the Belgorod region), 22 kilometers from the state border - to Shagarovka , according to Defense Express, citing its sources. According to experts, this is due to an increase in reports in foreign media about the decision to transfer long-range missile systems M142 HIMARS and / or M270 MLRS to Ukraine.

09:10 On the Zhytomyr highway near Kiev, a bridge across the Irpin River was restored, said Minister of Infrastructure Alexander Kubrakov.

08:59 The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the approximate losses of the enemy on the morning of May 29. The enemy suffered the greatest losses over the past day in the Bakhmut direction.

The main ban covers sea transportation of oil and fuel from the Russian Federation, it is proposed to introduce it with a 6-8 month delay.

08:28 In Lisichansk on May 28, a Russian shell hit a high-rise building, one girl died on the spot, four local residents were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. 08:03 For two months, Germany almost did not provide weapons to Ukraine and reduced support to a minimum, writes Welt, referring to the documents that came into the possession of the publication. Thus, in the period from March 30 to May 26, Ukraine received only two shipments of weapons from the German government. These are 3,000 anti-tank mines and another 1,600 specialized directional anti-tank mines, spare parts for machine guns, lighters, detonating cords, radios, hand grenades, explosives. According to Ukraine, the last deliveries of anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons took place on March 25, more than two months ago - 2,000 Panzerfaust 3 missiles and 1,500 Strela anti-aircraft missiles.

07:57 Russian troops are trying to gain a foothold in Liman and are storming Severodonetsk. In Belarus, the number of measures to train the armed forces is increasing, and in Crimea, the "authorities" ordered to stop accepting civilians in hospitals in order to free up beds for the wounded, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a morning summary .

07:21 The Russian military near Zmeiny Island are trying to pull the hit Raptor landing craft out of the water. "The rashists are trying to patch up the significantly reduced number of ships and boats of the Black Sea Fleet with drowned people," OK Pivden said in a statement.

04:58 The Amkrikansky Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that after the end of the battle for Severodonetsk, regardless of its outcome, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have the opportunity to resume the counteroffensive at the operational level. Analysts admit the possibility that Russian troops could capture the city and win a tactical victory, but note that such an outcome is not guaranteed - Russian attacks may stall again.

"The Russians are paying a price for their current tactical success that is disproportionate to any real operational or strategic benefit they can expect," the ISW said. Analysts explain the importance of Severodonetsk for Moscow by the fact that its capture would make it possible to declare that Russia completely controls the Luhansk region. However, this will not give the Russian Federation any other significant military or economic benefit.

Moreover, the battle for Severodonetsk is likely to prevent the continuation of large-scale Russian offensive operations in other directions. The Russians suffered very heavy losses in the area of Severodonetsk. Moscow will not be able to restore a large amount of combat power, even if it captures Severdonetsk, because it carelessly spends this combat power on taking the city, according to ISW. The Institute also notes a decline in the professionalism of Russian officers and the morale of the military.

01:08 Four NATO ships entered the port of Helsinki. The international call of military vessels was agreed about two weeks ago. According to the Finnish Minister of Defense, the arrival of the alliance ships in Helsinki is an expression of support for the Finns in troubled times, reports Yle.
