[Garowe] The Somali National Army (SNA) has destroyed a suspected al-Shabaab ... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... weapon store in central regions, following a sophisticated operation launched by the military within Adan Yabaal district, which is largely under the krazed killers.
The two facilities were used for storage of weapons and vehicle-borne explosive preparations, officials said. The snuffies usually use the facilities to wage attacks against security forces and innocent civilians within central regions.
Reports by security teams suggested that the compound, which was destroyed, was used by the snuffies to rig vehicles with explosives. It was destroyed beyond repair, officials said while lauding the Somali National Army for the success.
Military sources described the raid as a strategic blow to al-Shabaab’s logistical network in the central region. The damage would significantly aid the military in increasing its operations against al-Shabaab to retake the town.
"This marks a key step in disrupting the group’s capacity to launch attacks," a senior army officer told news hounds, requesting anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operation.
The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local intelligence, has intensified operations across Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle in recent months to degrade al-Shabaab’s strongholds. The Ministry of Defence is yet to release further details after the attack.
Adan Yabaal town was taken by the snuffies a few months ago, but there are deliberate attempts to regain control following increased military operations within the district. al-Shabaab is fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia.
[ShabelleMedia] Somali government forces and regional troops from South West State repelled a major attack by Al-Shabaab militants near the city of Baidoa on Sunday, following hours of intense fighting that left several insurgents dead, military officials said.
The clashes erupted early in the morning in the Daynuunay and Burjeed areas, located on the outskirts of Baidoa, after Al-Shabaab fighters launched a surprise assault on military outposts held by South West State forces.
Heavy weaponry, including mortars and machine guns, was used in the firefight, with explosions heard across several neighborhoods in Baidoa. Local residents reported widespread panic as stray shells landed outside the immediate combat zone.
“The militants attempted to overrun our positions, but our forces were prepared,” a Somali National Army (SNA) officer told state media. “We inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabaab, and many of them were killed at the scene. Others are on the run and being pursued.”
Although casualty figures remain unconfirmed, military sources said the confrontation resulted in a “significant blow” to the militants, who have intensified attacks in the Bay region in recent months.
Baidoa, the interim capital of South West State, is heavily guarded by Somali and allied troops, including Ethiopian forces operating under a separate bilateral security arrangement.
While the Ethiopian military’s involvement in the latest fighting has not been officially confirmed, they are known to maintain a strong presence in the region and have provided logistical and training support to local forces.
[ShabelleMedia] Somali National Army forces, backed by local Macawiisley militias, killed more than 20 al-Shabaab ... the personification of Somali state failure... Death Eaters in heavy fighting in the Mabaax and Gayacad areas of Hiiraan region, government officials said Monday.
The festivities, which erupted earlier this morning, resulted in significant losses for the krazed killer group, with numerous others maimed, according to an official government statement.
Somali forces and allied local militias continue joint operations to secure the region, intensifying efforts against al-Shabaab fighters who have maintained a presence in parts of Hiiraan.
Officials said operations have doubled in intensity in recent weeks, supported by international partners providing intelligence, Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s, and military equipment targeting al-Shabaab hideouts and command centres.
"The offensive will continue until al-Shabaab is completely expelled from all remaining strongholds in the Hiiraan region," security officials said.
[IsraelTims] While officially remaining neutral, the kingdom is thought to have a hand in drone and missile interceptions, exposing its unsheltered people to danger from falling debris
For the past 11 days, the kingdom of Jordan has found itself caught in the literal middle of the Israel-Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... war, turning its airspace into a battleground where ballistic missiles meet interceptors and drones are knocked out of the sky.
Falling missile debris, interceptor shrapnel, and explosive drones have injured several Jordanians and caused significant property damage around the desert country during the hostilities.
Aside from the physical danger, the conflict has placed Jordan in a precarious position diplomatically. The kingdom is sandwiched between an Israel with which it shares an American patron and discreet security cooperation but little love, and Iran, a somewhat friendly regional power that wields considerable sway. Amman maintains diplomatic ties with both.
Unlike the Paleostinians, Jordan does not have deep emotional ties with Iran, however. Instead, it leans more toward the pro-Western camp dominated by Arab Gulf allies that oppose Iran. It is also a staunch partner of the United States, which backs Israel and launched a direct strike on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend.
According to Jordanian authorities, seven civilians in the country have been injured due to the hostilities since Israel began attacking Iran on June 13. The toll includes a boy, 5, and a girl, 12, who were maimed when a drone, apparently shot from Iran, crashed near al-Azraq in northeastern Jordan.
Their conditions were not disclosed. According to Jordan’s General Security Directorate, three homes and two vehicles were damaged in the same incident.
On June 14, as Iran barraged Israel with volleys of missiles loaded with massive explosive warheads, "fragments of foreign objects" fell in the southern Irbid suburb of Aydoon, some 25 kilometers (16 miles) from the Israeli border. The pieces slammed into dozens of cars and homes, and left five Jordanians with non-life threatening injuries.
"We woke up in the morning to a strange sound, and saw that fragments had fallen inside the house and shattered glass," Abd al-Rahman al-Radadweh, a resident of Aydoon whose home was hit, told a Jordanian news channel. "My brother, sister, and father were maimed, and two of my cousins were also hurt when the missile fell on their house."
A more serious event, which caused most of the injuries reported so far in Jordan, occurred earlier that week, on June 14, in Aydoon, located in the southern Irbid district near the Israeli border, a day after Israel began its strikes on Iran. According to Jordanian media, "fragments of foreign objects" fell in the area, destroying dozens of cars and homes, and lightly injuring five Jordanians.
Reports of property damage from falling shrapnel and drone interceptions have occurred on a near-daily basis over the war.
In Hatim, north of Irbid, Jordanian media published footage on Sunday showing a home with shattered windows and destroyed furniture, which the homeowner said was caused by nearby "explosions."
These may have resulted from the shockwave of an interception along the Israel-Jordan border.
A day earlier, authorities announced that multiple drones and other foreign objects had fallen in Ramtha, northern Jordan, damaging homes and vehicles, though no injuries or fatalities were reported.
According to a statement by Jordan’s National Center for Security and Crisis Management, which has been monitoring the impact of the conflict, around 100 pieces of shrapnel from drones or missiles landed in Jordan during the first seven days of the war. It did not specify how many of the pieces came from missiles, interceptors, or drones.
MIDDLE GROUND
Since fighting began, Iran has fired some 550 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel, the vast majority of which have been intercepted.
Depending on where they are targeting and shot from, the projectiles spend a considerable part of their journey over Jordan, which inhabits as much as a third of the thousand kilometers (some 621 miles) separating Iran from Israel.
Most missile interceptions are thought to take place over Israeli airspace, though Israel says they can also occur outside the country’s borders. Aside from Jordan, shrapnel impacts have also been reported in Iraq and Syria, though on a less frequent basis.
Unlike missiles, about half of the drones, which are slower moving but harder to track, have failed to even make it to Israel’s borders, according to the military. Authorities are largely mum about who is downing them or how.
There is widespread speculation, however, that the Jordanian military is intercepting some of the missiles and drones en route to Israel, with debris from those interceptions causing damage in some instances. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by... Jordan has made no official comment in recent days regarding its security actions in response to missile and drone launches from Iran toward Israel beyond announcing the activation of its air defense systems.
The June 13 statement from the Jordanian Armed Forces stated only that air defenses were being deployed in response to drones and missiles entering Jordan’s airspace, without specifying their origin. It emphasized that it would not tolerate violations of its airspace. No further official military updates have been released since then.
Jordan, which has not participated in a military conflict since the 1967 Six Day War, when it fought against Israel, is not accustomed to missile or drone attacks on its territory. While it will sound air raid sirens when foreign threats are detected, the instructions issued to the public are vague, advising citizens only to avoid open spaces. Bomb shelters and reinforced rooms are rare.
Unlike in Israel, schools in Jordan have continued operating as usual, and summer camps have recently begun. Airports and land border crossings have also remained open throughout the past week, with only temporary closures following Israel’s initial strike and the US attack in Iran on June 22th.
Nonetheless, most tourists are staying away while the missiles and drones fly, hurting a key source of income for Jordan.
On June 16, Jordan’s Tourism and Antiquities Minister Lina Annab stated that the cancellation rate for tourist bookings was extremely high, ranging from 70 percent to 100% for reservations in the near term. She noted that such a wave of cancellations was expected, given the current uncertainty and the military escalation between Israel and Iran.
Jordan’s media, which is tightly controlled by the kingdom, has downplayed reports of damage from Iranian attacks or Israeli interceptions, with even incidents involving injuries not receiving prominent coverage.
In official communications, Jordan has attempted to remain neutral, primarily issuing warnings about regional escalation. This appears to reflect fears that a broader regional conflict could severely impact Jordan. At times, however, Jordan’s official statements have also included harsh criticism of Israel.
Immediately following Israel’s surprise attack on Iran, Jordan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the attack, calling it "a violation of international law." It also joined 20 other countries across the Middle East and North Africa in signing a declaration against the Israeli strikes on Iran.
On June 17, King Abdullah of Jordan publicly addressed the Iran-Israel conflict for the first time, telling the European Parliament that "the attacks on Iran risk escalating tensions in the region and beyond... When Israel expanded its offensive to include Iran, there is no telling where these boundaries of this battleground will end." He called Israel’s actions "a threat to people everywhere."
Amman was less vehement on Sunday, after American bombers struck Iranian nuclear sites, with the Foreign Ministry saying it was "closely monitoring with great concern the consequences of the attack on Iranian nuclear facilities." It called for an end to the war and a return to negotiations to reach a political solution on Iran’s nuclear issue.
The comments and lack of coverage reflect the tightrope being walked by Jordan’s King Abdullah, who is seeking to protect the kingdom’s citizens and its pro-Western national security interests behind the scenes, while being careful in public to avoid appearing too closely aligned with Israel.
Ties between Amman and Jerusalem were already chilly before being frayed to their breaking point by war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... . Amman’s cold stance toward Israel is also likely a product of Jordan’s demographics — unofficial estimates suggest that around 60% of the population has Paleostinian roots.
WHO’S BEING DEFENDED?
Unlike other Arab countries in the region, Jordan’s mainstream outlets have not conducted public opinion polls or aired man-on-the-street interviews to gauge public opinion on the war between Israel and Iran or Jordan’s role in it.
Online, though, the military’s interceptions are a hot topic. While some believe Jordan is just protecting its airspace, others see the moves as de facto assistance to Israel.
"The message is clear: Jordan is not a playground for conflicts," one Jordanian said in a video shared online. "It is a sovereign state with institutions and an army — it is not run by groups who act based on fluctuating sentiments."
Another Jordanian woman wrote on X in support of the military’s actions: "The Jordanian army doesn’t shoot down drones or missiles arbitrarily. It intervenes when these objects go off track... posing a real threat to Jordanian lives." "Blowing them up in the sky is the right and necessary decision, because it prevents them from exploding in full force over populated areas."
On TikTok, one man asked if Jordanians wouldn’t be safer if the missiles and drones were allowed to continue on to their targets.
"In all the recent days of war, no Iranian missile or drone has fallen naturally [on Jordan], but dozens have been shot down over Jordanians’ heads," he opined. "People have been injured and property damaged — all supposedly to protect Jordanian citizens. I ask logically — what’s safer for Jordanians: to let them pass, with almost zero chance of falling, or to intercept them and increase the risk of fallout?"
With America joining the war, some Jordanians now have a new concern: radioactive fallout from attacks on nuclear sites.
In one video that has gone viral in recent days, a Jordanian doctor told his countrymen they did not need to rush out to buy iodine. Online, claims circulating on social media had suggested stockpiling the element as protection against clouds of radioactive fallout from Iran that some Jordanians now fear will be headed their way.
In the end all those spies haven’t done Iran much good…
[IsraelTimes] Haifa resident reportedly stalked Netanyahu’s future daughter-in-law, sent photos of her to Iranian agent; two suspects received thousands of dollars from handlers, police say
Police and Shin Bet agents have arrested three Israelis suspected of spying on Iran’s behalf, the latest in a string of espionage incidents linked to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
The three had no known connection to one another and were detained separately by police.
One of the suspects gathered intelligence on the future daughter-in-law of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hebrew media reported Monday, soon after police announced the arrest of the alleged spy.
Dmitri Cohen, a 28-year-old resident of Haifa, was said to have gathered intelligence on Amit Yardeni and her family weeks before her scheduled wedding to Avner Netanyahu last week — which has since been postponed following the outbreak of open conflict with Iran.
He also spied on other Israeli citizens, the police and Shin Bet said in a statement, taking pictures of peoples’ homes and surrounding areas, which he then passed on to his Iranian handler.
He was promised $500 for each task he carried out, and received thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency since first coming into contact with the Iranian agent. He used a separate phone for his espionage activities, according to the police and Shin Bet.
Cohen was arrested a month ago, before the outbreak of war with Iran, by coppers in the Coastal District’s investigations and intelligence unit, in cooperation with the Shin Bet.
A prosecutor’s affidavit was filed against Cohen on Monday morning, the police and Shin Bet said. State prosecutors in the Haifa District Attorney’s Office are expected to file charges against him in the coming days.
Later on Monday, police and the Shin Bet announced the arrest of another suspected spy, a 27-year-old Tel Aviv resident who was detained for questioning a day prior by law enforcement.
He, too, allegedly photographed the homes of public officials and military bases, as well as sprayed graffiti throughout the city at the behest of an Iranian operative, receiving thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency as compensation.
In a raid on the suspect’s home Sunday, the Tel Aviv District Police’s Fraud Division seized several electronic devices and computers they suspect were used to communicate with the Iranian agent.
He was brought on Monday morning to the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court, where a judge extended his detention until June 26.
Police also recently detained a 19-year-old from the Sharon region on suspicion of spying for Tehran, Ynet reported Monday.
The young man was thought to have contacted an Iranian agent and passed along confidential information to him over the course of the war.
The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the Shin Bet. Police have not yet commented on the arrest of the unnamed man, according to the outlet.

[IsraelTimes] Audio recorded at the beginning of Israel’s attack on Iran and obtained by Washington Post was reportedly part of a broad intelligence operation
Leaked audio of a call shows how, on June 13, as Israel began bombing Iran’s nuclear sites and assassinating key officials, its intelligence agents embarked on a campaign to threaten lower-level Iranian military leaders.
In the recording, published Monday by the Washington Post, an anonymous intelligence operative can be heard telling an Iranian general in Persian that he has 12 hours to flee with his family before Israel kills him.
"I can advise you now, you have 12 hours to escape with your wife and child," says the intelligence operative, whose voice has been altered in the recording. "Otherwise, you’re on our list right now."
The Post did not identify the Iranian general, who it said is believed to still be alive, and muted his voice on the call. It reported that the call was one of a number made to senior Iranian officials at the outset of Israel’s strikes against Iran’s nuclear program and military infrastructure, with the aim of destabilizing the country’s regime and threatening second- and third-tier officials who would replace the assassinated leaders.
At the beginning of the call, the operative identifies himself as coming from a country that "sent Salami, Bagheri and Shamkhani to hell," referring to three senior Iranian leaders Israel killed at the beginning of the campaign. They are Hossein Salami, chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s military chief; and Ali Shamkhani, a top adviser to Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...> , Iran’s supreme leader.
The call, which the Post said only that it had received from an "Israeli individual who obtained the material," appeared to have been part of the vast Israeli intelligence operation that accompanied the strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The intelligence effort saw groups of agents and weapons covertly embedded in Iran. Along with assassinating military leaders, Israel also killed many of Iran’s top nuclear scientists. On Monday, a semi-official Iranian news agency said the country had executed someone arrested in 2023 for collaborating with Israel’s Mosssd ...sees all, knows all, gets 'em all in the end... intelligence agency.
The Prime Minister’s Office told The Times of Israel that it had no comment on the Washington Post report.
Later in the call, the operative tells the general to make a video denouncing the regime in Tehran, "saying we have walked away from this government, and we are unwilling to sacrifice our lives for people who destroyed our country for 46 years."
The operative told the general to send the video via the encrypted messaging platform Telegram. The general asks where to send the video, though it is unclear whether he made one or sent it.
In the call, the operative says that Israel could kill the general on a moment’s notice.
"We’re closer to you than your own neck vein," he said. "Put this in your head. May God protect you."
[IsraelTimes] Mojtaba Khamenei, hardline son of supreme leader, said to be a frontrunner, alongside Hassan Khomeini, his predecessor’s grandson, who is considered a relative moderate
The clock is ticking for senior holy mans seeking a successor to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...> A three-man committee from a top holy manal body, appointed by Khamenei himself two years ago to identify his replacement, has accelerated its planning in recent days since Israel attacked Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and threatened to assassinate the veteran leader, five insiders with knowledge of the discussions told Rooters.
Khamenei, 86, is being regularly briefed on the talks, according to the Iranian sources who requested anonymity to discuss highly sensitive matters. He has gone into hiding with his family and is being guarded by the Vali-ye Amr special forces unit of the Revolutionary Guards, a top security official said. On Monday, the IDF conducted what Defense Minister Israel Katz called "unprecedented" strikes on the Iranian capital.
The ruling establishment will immediately seek to name a successor to Khamenei if he is killed, to signal stability and continuity, according to the sources who acknowledged that predicting Iran’s subsequent political trajectory was difficult.
A new leader will still be chosen for his devotion to the revolutionary precepts of the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s late founder ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, according to one insider, who is close to Khamenei’s office and privy to succession discussions.
At the same time, the top echelon of power is also considering which candidate might present a more moderate face to ward off foreign attacks and internal revolts, the person said.
Two frontrunners have emerged in the succession discussions, the five insiders said: Khamenei’s 56-year-old son Mojtaba, long seen as a continuity choice, and a new contender, Hassan Khomeini, grandson of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
The New York Times
...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... recently reported that Khamenei had chosen three possible successors, in addition to other potential replacements for top officers.
Khomeini, a close ally of the reformist faction that favors the easing of social and political restrictions, nonetheless commands respect among senior holy mans and the Revolutionary Guards because of his lineage, the sources added.
"I once again humbly express that this small and insignificant servant of the Iranian people stands ready to proudly be present on any front or scene you deem necessary," the 53-year-old said in a public message of support to the supreme leader on Saturday, hours before the US bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Khomeini has come into the frame as a serious candidate this month amid the conflict with Israel and America because he could represent a more conciliatory choice internationally and domestically than Mojtaba Khamenei, the five people said.
By contrast, Khamenei hews closely to his father’s hardline policies, according to the insiders who cautioned that nothing had been determined, candidates could change and the supreme leader would have the final say.
However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well... with the military conflict continuing, it remains unclear whether any new leader could be chosen easily or installed securely or if he could assume the level of authority enjoyed by Khamenei, they added.
Israeli strikes have also killed several of Iran’s top Revolutionary Guards commanders, potentially complicating a handover of power as the elite military force has long played a central role in enforcing the supreme leader’s rule.
Khamenei’s office and the Assembly of Experts, the holy manal body from which the succession committee was drawn, were not available to comment.
Planning for an eventual handover was already in the works because of Khamenei’s age and the longstanding health concerns of a leader who has dominated all aspects of Iranian politics for decades, the sources said.
The urgency of the task was underlined in September when Israel killed Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ...The late, lamented satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...> , a close ally of Khamenei’s, and the planning accelerated significantly this month following the Israeli attacks on nuclear sites, which were followed by the American attacks this past weekend.
US President Donald Trump ...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!... reportedly vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei on the first day of the war. But last week, ahead of the American strikes on Iran, Trump issued his own threat to the supreme leader.
"We know exactly where the so-called ’Supreme Leader’ is hiding," the president warned on social media, calling for Tehran’s unconditional surrender. "He is an easy target."
On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that the Trump administration is not seeking regime change. However overnight Trump posted online that "if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!"
Khamenei hasn’t publicly expressed any preference for his successor. The sources said he had repeatedly opposed the idea of his son taking over in succession discussions in the past, concerned about any suggestion of Iran returning to the kind of hereditary rule that ended with the ousting of the shah in 1979.
The role of supreme leader was created after the revolution and then enshrined in the constitution, giving a top holy man ultimate authority in guiding the elected president and parliament.
Officially, the leader is named by the Assembly of Experts, made up of 88 senior holy mans who are chosen through a national election in which a hardline watchdog body aligned with Khamenei must approve all the candidates.
"Whether the Islamic Theocratic Republic survives or not, it will be a very different one, because the context in which it has existed has fundamentally changed," said London-based Iranian political analyst Hossein Rassam, adding that Hassan Khomeini could fit the bill for a leader to take Iran in a new direction.
"The regime has to opt for someone who’ll facilitate slow transition."
Hassan Khomeini’s close links to the reformist faction of Iranian politics, which pursued an ultimately unsuccessful policy of opening Iran to the outside world in the 1990s, saw hardline officials bar him from running as a member of the Assembly of Experts in 2016.
The succession planners are aware that Khomeini is likely to be more palatable to the Iranian population than a hardliner, the five insiders said. Last year he warned of a "crisis of rising popular dissatisfaction" among Iranians due to poverty and deprivation.
By contrast, Mojtaba Khamenei’s views echo those of his father on every major topic from cracking down on opponents to taking a hard line with foreign foes, the sources said — qualities they saw as hazardous with Iran under attack.
A mid-ranking holy man who teaches theology at a religious seminary in the city Qom, the center of Iranian religious life, Mojtaba has never held a formal position the Islamic Theocratic Republic, though he exercises influence behind the scenes as the gatekeeper to his father, according to Iran watchers.
The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Mojtaba in 2019, saying he represented the supreme leader in "an official capacity despite never being elected or appointed to a government position" aside from working in his father’s office.
Several of the candidates long seen as possible successors to Khamenei have already died.
Former president Hashemi Rafsanjani ... the fourth President of Iran. He was a member of the Assembly of Experts until he was eased out in 2011 He continues, for the moment, as Chairman of the Expediency Discernment Council. In 2005 he ran for a third term as president, ultimately losing to rival Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was in Khamenei's graces back then. In 1980 Rafsanjani survived an assassination attempt, during which he was seriously injured. He has been described as a centrist and a pragmatic conservative without all that much reason. He is currently being eased out of any position of actual influence or power and may be dead by the end of 2012... died in 2017, former judiciary chief Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi died in 2018 and former president Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash in 2023. Another senior holy man, Sadegh Amoli Larijani, has been sidelined.
Others, such as Assembly of Experts member Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, are still in contention but have fallen behind Mojtaba Khamenei and Hassan Khomeini, the five sources said.
Beyond the most likely candidates, it’s also possible that a less prominent holy man could be chosen as a pawn of the Revolutionary Guards, said Ali Vaez, Iran project director at the International Crisis Group think tank.
"It is possible that they would put forward a candidate that no one has ever heard of and would not really hold the same levers of power that Ayatollah Khamenei has held now for more than 30 years," he said.
The supreme leader’s voice is powerful.
After the death of the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s founder Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, Khamenei was publicly hailed as his predecessor’s choice. Although he had already served as president, Khamenei was only a mid-ranking holy man and was initially dismissed by influential holy mans as weak and an unlikely successor to his charismatic predecessor.
However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well... he steadily tightened his grip to become Iran’s unquestioned decision-maker, relying on the Revolutionary Guards as he outmaneuvered rivals and crushed bouts of popular unrest.
[FE] Lt. Colonel Vladimir "Popski" Peniakoff ranks among the most creatively unhinged military commanders in history. Through quirks of the WWII British military system, he ended up with a special command that, had he played by the rules, he never would have had. He employed it brilliantly and extensively for behind-enemy-lines guerilla raids, with damn little in the way of adult supervision.
At one point in Italy, he became aware of an entire German division garrisoned in a medieval mountain town. A division would have well over 10,000 men. In contrast, Popski had only a couple dozen. So, his usual traditional guerrilla hit-and-run ambush tactics wouldn’t do much, especially because the Italian mountains did not offer the same escape and evasion opportunities as the enormous desert of North Africa, where he had developed his tactics. But then, he had one of his crazed brainstorms.
The whole strategic point was taking real estate, forcing the enemy back. What if he just scared them off? And, maybe, say, stole their trucks?
This occurred about the same time he’d met a local Italian partisan commander, a Major Ferri. He and Popski immediately agreed to throw in together, and an audacious plot was hatched. Many partisan commanders often executed captured Germans, but Ferri had instead held his as prisoners.
[World Net Daily] 'Perhaps America has joined [the war] because we were very close to annihilating Israel. It was in the closing stages'
Gen. Ebrahim Jabbari, senior advisor to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps — the branch of Iran's armed forces created by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979 to protect the radical theocratic regime — said on Iranian TV Monday, June 23, that Iran was "very close to annihilating Israel."
As reported by the Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI, the IRGC commander-in-chief and former commander of current Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei's security unit, said the U.S. may have joined the conflict because Iran was on the verge of destroying the Jewish state.

[GEO.TV] Leb ...home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade.... 's health ministry said an Israeli strike killed three people Tuesday in the country's south, the latest such raid despite a November ceasefire with the Iran-backed Hezbollah.
"The strike launched by an Israeli enemy drone on a vehicle" in the Bint Jbeil district "resulted in the death of three people", the ministry said in a statement carried by the official National News Agency (NNA).
Israel has kept up regular strikes on Lebanon, particularly in the south, since a November 27 ceasefire meant to end over a year of hostilities, including two months of all-out war that left Hezbollah badly weakened.

's civil defence agency said Israeli forces killed another 46 people waiting for aid in the Paleostinian territory on Tuesday as rights groups and UN agencies slammed the US-backed food distribution system.
Civil defence front man Mahmud Bassal told AFP that 21 people were killed and around 150 maimed by Israeli fire near an aid point in central Gaza early Tuesday, and that another 25 were killed in a separate incident in south Gaza.
The latest deaths came as Israel's opposition leader and the families of Israeli hostages being held in Gaza called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to widen a ceasefire with Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. [THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] President Donald Trump ...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US... has said that former President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. Too old and senile to be prosecuted, not too old and senile to set national policy... allowed "a lot of sleeper cells" into the United States during his presidency. This comes after the president ordered the bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities. This also comes as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken 11 Iranian nationals into custody in 48 hours.
While aboard Air Force One, Trump told the press when he was asked about the possibility of Iranian sleeper cells in the US, "Biden led a lot of sleeper cells in. Biden was an incompetent president. He had no idea what he was doing."
"Hardly ever signed a document. Other people signed documents for him with the auto pen. It was gross incompetence. And among everything else, he let a lot of sleeper cells in, many from Iran, but hopefully we'll take care of them," the president continued, adding that the actions of the Biden administration should "never be forgotten."
According to CBS News, in nine cities nationwide, ICE has arrested 11 Iranian foreign nationals in a 48-hour span. Among those who have been taken into custody is Mehran Makari Sahel, who was arrested near St. Paul, Minnesota. Authorities said that he is a former member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a military arm of the Iran's terror regime. He also has "admitted connections to Hezbollah," a terrorist group.

[X] Contrast with some shmuck following Bibi Netanyahu’s future daughter-in-law around. There’s no comparison in terms of quality.
🚨 Breaking: General Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of IRGC, was arrested for spying for Israel
Right now any IRGC general that is alive, is either an Israeli spy or such an idiot that he is deemed to be more useful for Israel alive than dead 🤡 pic.twitter.com/o4lZttFSVk
[AyPee] The Supreme Court on Friday again cleared the way for the Trump administration to strip temporary legal protections from hundreds of thousands of immigrants for now, pushing the total number of people who could be newly exposed to deportation to nearly 1 million.
The justices lifted a lower-court order that kept humanitarian parole protections in place for more than 500,000 migrants from four countries: Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. The decision comes after the court allowed the administration to revoke temporary legal status from about 350,000 Venezuelan migrants in another case.
The court did not explain its reasoning in the brief order, as is typical on its emergency docket. Two justices publicly dissented.
The administration filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court after a federal judge in Boston blocked the administration’s push to end the program. The Justice Department argues that the protections for people fleeing turmoil in their home countries were always meant to be temporary, and the Department of Homeland Security has the power to revoke them without court interference.
Abigail Jackson, a White House spokeswoman, said the Biden-era policies weren’t in line with immigration law. “We are confident in the legality of our actions to protect the American people and look forward to further action from the Supreme Court to vindicate us,” she said.
But Karen Tumlin, founder and director of Justice Action Center, said the decision has “effectively greenlit” deportation orders for a half-million people.
“I cannot overstate how devastating this is,” she said. "We get paid by the head!"
The heart weeps, truly…
The court “allowed the Trump Administration to unleash widespread chaos, not just for our clients and class members, but for their families, their workplaces, and their communities.”
[GeorgiaRecord] Is China running an operation related to America’s food supply?
THE BIG PICTURE: THE CCP IS INTERESTED IN U.S. FOOD PRODUCTION.
The largest pork producer in the U.S. is owned by China. Smithfield Foods, based in Virginia, is the largest producer of pork in the U.S. IN 2013, a CCP-linked company in China purchased Smithfield Foods for $7.1 billion.
As of 2024, China owned approximately 384,000 acres of farmland in the U.S.
What about more recent actions? Is there a connection?
2023: THE SECRET CHINESE LAB IN FRESNO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.
In March of 2023, California law enforcement officials conducted a search of a secret laboratory run by Chinese nationals in Fresno County, California. The unlicensed laboratory was located in a nondescript warehouse in Reedley, California.
When law enforcement officials searched the lab, they found over 700 mice. The mice had been genetically altered to carry disease.
In May of 2023, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, a CDC team entered the lab to conduct an investigation. The CDC team found over 20 infectious disease agents in the lab, Those agents included:
-HIV
-E. coli samples
-Tuberculosis
-Dengue virus samples, and
-Heliobacter pylori samples.
-The lab also contained malaria parasites.
The illegal lab was run by Jia Bei Zhu, a Chinese national. Mr. Zhu had several aliases including Jiabei “Jesse” Zhu, Qiang He and David He. Mr. Zhu was an executive at several Chinese businesses, including the Henan Investment Group Company Limited, a Chinese company linked to the Chinese military.
Notably, Mr. Zhu was an executive at al Chinese cattle company. Mr. Zhu was the Chairman of “Aide Modern Cattle Industry (China),” a Chinese company that owns other Chinese cattle companies.
In November of 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Mr. Zhu for making false statements to federal authorities. In August of 2024, the Department of Justice added charges related to conspiracy and wire fraud.
At the time of his arrest, Mr. Zhu lived in Clovis, California. Clovis is in Fresno County, California Fresno County is the San Joaquin Valley, among the richest farmlands in the America.
As of August 2024, Mr. Zhu was held in federal custody. He has filed a lawsuit against Fresno County.
The Georgia Record was not able to determine when Mr. Zhu’s trial will be held.
JULY 2024: FUNGUS SAMPLES SMUGGLED INTO THE DETROIT AIRPORT.
In July of 2024, Mr. Yunqing Liu, a Chinese national, was arrested for attempting to smuggle a hazardous fungus into the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Samples of the fungus were sealed in small plastic bags that were concealed in Mr. Liu’s luggage. Mr. Liu admitted that he was bringing the fungus to his girlfriend, Yunqing Jian. Ms. Jian is a Chinese citizen who had been a researcher at the University of Michigan.
On June 3, 2025, the Department of Justice charged Ms. Jian and Mr. Liu with smuggling Fusarium graminearum fungus into the U.S. F. graminearum can cause grain crops and corn yields to drop.
F. graninearum also produces a mycotoxins. The mycotoxins can cause illness, and sometimes death, in humans or livestock that eat grains affected by the fungus.
Mr. Liu is at-large. He is reportedly in China.
JUNE 2025: A CHINESE NATIONAL SENT ROUNDWORMS INTO THE U.S.
On June 8, 2025, a Chinese national was arrested for smuggling biologic material into the U.S. On June 9, Jeremy F. Gorgon, Jr, the Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, announced that Ms. Chengxuan Han was charged with smuggling “biological materials related to roundworms” into the U.S.
Roundworms are a class of parasites (nematodes) that can affect grazing cattle, especially calves. Roundworms on grasses can be ingested by grazing cattle. Once ingested, the larvae mature to adulthood inside the cow.
Some roundworm larvae can cause damage to the digestive tract of cattle. Some infect the lungs. Roundworm infection can cause diarrhea and failure to gain weight in young cattle. Death is possible.
A preliminary hearing in Ms. Han’s case is currently scheduled for June 30.
WHAT IS NEXT?
Is there a connection? Is there a Chinese operation?
There are steps that the U.S. and California governments can take. Here are few steps that the U.S. government can be take immediately.
The U.S. State Department could demand that China extradite Mr. Liu, who is reportedly in China.
The U.S. Department of Justice could expedite Mr. Zhu’s trial.
The Department of Justice could aggressively prosecute the Han case. The June 30 hearing should be kept open to the public and the media, as should all of the proceedings in the Han case.
The Congress and the Department of Agriculture could investigate how many Chinese nationals are attending U.S. veterinary schools. A source has told The Georgia Record that it is not known how many Chinese nationals are taking seats at the approximately 4,000 slots at American veterinary schools in the U.S.
There are steps that the California government can take. Here they are:
California could counter-sue Mr. Zhu. California and Fresno County could add China and Chinese companies as co-defendants.
California and Fresno County could seek to expedite discovery.
California has two veterinary schools. California could investigate how many Chinese nationals are attending its two veterinary schools.
Municipalities in California could immediately start looking for other illegal labs in California. The Fresno lab might not have been the only one.
[FoxNews] A fairytale turned into a nightmare after authorities reveal that the man killed by a lightning strike on a Florida beach was on his honeymoon.
The Volusia County Beach Safety confirmed to WTVG that the victim, a 29-year-old man, was visiting from Colorado with his new bride, when he was struck by lightning on Friday afternoon while he was standing in ankle-deep water.
The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries, Volusia County Beach Safety Director Tammy Malphurs shared in an update on Monday with WESH.
Malphurs told the outlet that the storm was still miles away from the beach, making the strike "an extremely rare occurrence."
"It was clear blue sky, and the storm was like miles away from us," a witness described to WESH.
Volusia County Mike Chitwood addressed the tragedy and also confirmed the victim was a tourist visiting on his honeymoon.
This is the aftermath of being taken to the woodshed...
[Regnum] Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, in response to the concerns of US President Donald Trump, who suggested the possibility of transferring nuclear weapons to Iran, said that Russia does not intend to do so.
Good. That would have been really, really dumb. Because they consider you infidels in need of conquering, too, and there is no guarantee that feeding that particular alligator would get you eaten last.
Medvedev wrote about this in English on the X social network, commenting on criticism of him from the head of the White House.
"As for President Trump's concerns: I condemn the US strike on Iran - it did not achieve its goals.
Apparently it did… or at least pushed the deadline considerably further off.
However, Russia does not intend to supply nuclear weapons to Iran because, unlike Israel, we are parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," Medvedev wrote.
*Snicker* Like you, Israel was not going to supply Iran with nukes. So nice to see you both in agreement on the subject.
He indicated that he was well aware of what such a move could lead to, since he also controlled Russia's nuclear forces when he was president. At the same time, Medvedev warned that other countries could make deliveries.
In addition, Medvedev recalled that the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which he signed with the 44th US President Barack Obama, is still in effect.

[NAHARNET] Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem ... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies... warned in an interview published Monday that ''the attack on Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... will have hefty prices because the entire region is in danger.''
In an interview with the Hezbollah-affiliated al-Ahed news portal, Qassem also slammed U.S. President Donald Trump ...The Hero of Butler, Pennsylvania... 's threats against Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...> ''Trump's threat to assassinate Imam Khamenei is a vile action and at the same an evidence of weakness,'' Qassem added.
''Trump is ignorant of the reverence of this great leader among Moslems and in the world and ignorant of the dangerous repercussions of such threats,'' the Hezbollah leader went on to say.
He also stressed that ''Iran will emerge victorious, because it is righteous and the one being aggressed against,'' adding that ''Iran has the leadership of the brave supreme leader who is insisting that Iran be dignified and strong.''
''Iran has unified people who have left behind their disputes to be unified in the face of the American-Israeli aggression,'' Qassem added.
As for Israel's continued occupation and attacks in Leb ...The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else?... , Qassem said Hezbollah supports the Lebanese state's ''diplomatic choice'' but would take the ''appropriate decision'' if diplomacy fails to achieve Lebanon's objectives.
Hezbollah is ''ready to adopt any choice taken by the state to halt the aggression and secure Israel's withdrawal,'' he said.
Noting that the reconstruction of areas destroyed in the latest war with Israel is the ''top priority'' for Hezbollah and for ''the course of the state and its recovery,'' Qassem said his group still retains military ''capabilities.''
''The resistance shall stay and continue and it is repairing itself. It has expressed the strength of its continuity through its people, who rushed to their villages in the South and offered deaders to remain in their land, and also through the million-man funeral for its two (slain) secretaries-general (Sayyed ...Arabic term meaning your/his lordship. Groveling in His Exalted Presence is encouraged... His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah ...The late, lamented satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...> and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine) — as well as through its effective contributions to the process of building the state and its institutions,'' Qassem went on to say.
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited. Trump says Iran and Israel agree to complete ceasefire
Israel and Iran have agreed to a complete ceasefire. US President Donald Trump announced this on June 23 on the Truth Social social network.
Iran and Israel have agreed to a full and complete ceasefire in about six hours, after the current missions are completed, Trump said. Iran will cease fire first, followed by Israel 12 hours later, Trump said. After a 24-hour period of complete ceasefire by both sides, the world will see a complete end to the 12-day war, Trump assured.
“I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, for having the fortitude, courage and intelligence to end what should be called the 12-day war,” the head of the White House noted.
Trump added that the conflict could have dragged on for years and “destroyed the entire Middle East.”
Earlier, Regnum News Agency reported that Israel plans to end the operation against Iran soon, which it has notified the United States about. Israeli officials and analysts note that despite the suddenness of the first strikes on Iran, Tel Aviv is unable to control the end of military actions. If Iran continues its attacks, Israel risks being drawn into a war of attrition.
From the Times of Israel liveblog at 1:30 a.m.EDT:
The airstrikes foiled a larger attack on Israel, according to the military. It is unclear if the strikes were launched before the Iranian missile salvos or during them.
The military issues footage of the strikes.
Despite the action, at least four people were killed when a ballistic missile hit an apartment block in Beersheba.
...Minister of Defense Israel Katz condemned the violation of the ceasefire and stated: "In light of Iran's blatant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, and the launch of missiles toward Israel—and in accordance with the Israeli government's policy to respond forcefully to any violation—I have instructed the IDF, in coordination with the Prime Minister, to continue the intensified strike operations in Tehran, targeting regime assets and terrorist infrastructure in the city. This follows the actions carried out yesterday."

Don't discount renegades given that the chain of command has been seriously compromised. Much like the Japanese who attempted to stage a coup in the last days to prevent their surrender.

What is missed here is that the US is out of it.
Semantically and functionally.
When Iran and Israel inevitably start flanging away at each other, it's a cease-fire violation. We're not involved.

NBC: ICE arrested 11 Iranian nationals in 48 hours, including Mehran Makari Sahel in St. Paul, a former IRGC member with ties to Hezbollah.
[BBC] A powerful new telescope in Chile has released its first images, showing off its unprecedented ability to peer into the dark depths of the universe.
In one picture, vast colourful gas and dust clouds swirl in a star-forming region 9,000 light years from Earth.
The Vera C Rubin observatory, home to the world's most powerful digital camera, promises to transform our understanding of the universe.
If a ninth planet exists in our solar system, scientists say this telescope would find it in its first year.
It should detect killer asteroids in striking distance of Earth and map the Milky Way. It will also answer crucial questions about dark matter, the mysterious substance that makes up most of our universe.
In a press conference on Monday, the observatory revealed that in 10 hours, the telescope detected 2,104 new asteroids and seven space objects close to Earth.
All other space and ground surveys combined usually find about 20,000 asteroids in a year.
This once-in-a-generation moment for astronomy is the start of a continuous 10-year filming of the southern night sky.
"I personally have been working towards this point for about 25 years. For decades we wanted to build this phenomenal facility and to do this type of survey," says Professor Catherine Heymans, Astronomer Royal for Scotland.
The UK is a key partner in the survey and will host data centres to process the extremely detailed snapshots as the telescope sweeps the skies capturing everything in its path.
[Naharnet] An Israeli airstrike has targeted the transmission building of Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV on the heights of the Toumat Niha area, which overlooks West Bekaa and the southern region of Iqlim al-Tuffah, state-run National News Agency reported on Sunday.
Al-Jadeed television said the building was being used by several TV stations and mobile network operators as a transmission and coverage point.
The TV network added that the building was fully destroyed along with its towers, equipment and transmission facilities, noting that it had been targeted and partially destroyed two days ago.
[NAHARNET] The Lebanese Army inspected Monday a building in Hay al-American in Hadath in search of military equipment.
Army forces had inspected buildings in the area, once with a bulldozer, at the request of the five-member committee supervising the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire.
Inspected with a bulldozer?? That’s sending a very clear message!
The densely populated Hay al-American street in Hadath near Beirut's southern suburbs had been targeted by Israeli strikes during the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war and even after the late November reached ceasefire.
Israel has warned that it would keep up its strikes on Hezbollah targets across Leb ...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel... , while the Lebanese army condemned Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s and warned that such attacks are weakening the role of Lebanon's armed forces that might eventually suspend cooperation with the committee monitoring the truce that ended the Israel-Hezbollah war.
The army had tried to convince Israel to let Lebanese officials go in to search suspected areas, under the mechanism laid out in the ceasefire agreement, instead of striking them.

[FoxNews] A former Secret Service agent shares crucial guidance on situational awareness following US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities
Robert McDonald was a Secret Service agent for more than 20 years and is an expert in executive protection, intelligence and protective travel logistics. During that time, he coordinated security for U.S. and foreign dignitary visits.
Now, he is a professor of criminal justice at the University of New Haven.
"There are those type of areas where people are coming and going. People are transient. Lots of people go there every day," he told Fox News Digital in reference to airports and bus and train stations. "Anything can happen at any time. Again, you've just got to be able to be cognizant of your surroundings, be situationally aware and be able to get yourself out of a situation if something was to happen."
"We don't wish anything to happen, but you just got to be able to get yourself out of a particular zone relatively quick," he said.
The same principle applies to any crowded place, both indoors and out, McDonald said. Being "situationally aware" includes being on the lookout for anything that seems out of place in day-to-day life. He clarified that "out of place" is different for everyone.
"For example, if you go to a mall or Times Square and you see a backpack lying on the corner with nobody around it, or it hasn't moved in a while, you might want to report that," he said.
"If there are particular cars in and around your neighborhood that are not normally there, it could be nothing," McDonald said. "It could be a visitor to your neighbor, but it could be something out of the ordinary that you would want to potentially report."
With regard to reporting suspicious activity, McDonald assured Americans that law enforcement entities want to be tipped off to anything suspicious, even if it turns out there is no threat.
"Authorities want to hear from you and want to be able to investigate things that are out of the ordinary," he said. "You may be the only person that's noticing that something is out of the ordinary, and we have a responsibility to pass that information forward to authorities. Let them come and decide that the issue is a non-issue, right."
Since Saturday's bombings in Iran, a leading state sponsor of Islamic terrorism, major metropolitan areas including New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Miami have stepped up security protocols.
Fox News contributor Paul Mauro, a former NYPD inspector who monitored terror cells, told Fox News Digital that police are upping patrols, particularly at relevant religious sites, and also monitoring for online chatter from potential terror threats.
"[NYPD] will put out special attention patrol cars at locations that could track to the conflict in places that have an Israeli connection, and there's a couple of Shia mosques – Iran is Shia – and there are a couple of Shia mosques," Mauro told Fox News Digital. "You never know what's going to develop. So [they'll] liaise with those communities. They'll talk to them, they'll put special patrol, special attention patrol."
"You're going to look very closely online," he said. "You're going to be monitoring a lot of the online stuff. NYPD has a very robust cyber counterterrorism program, and you're going to do that very heavily."
[IsraelNationalNews] While American B-2s were dropping fourteen-ton super bombs on the Iranian nuclear facilities, on magnificent Lake Geneva there was a meeting between the foreign ministers of France, Germany, England and Iran. Also present was Kaja Kallas, the high representative of EU foreign policy and the only woman there. The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghachi, did not shake her hand.
No European diplomat seemed upset. Remember when Erdogan left President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Leyen without a chair and former president Charles Michel shrugged? And Ursula, without a chair, muttered: "It’s regrettable, but I chose not to make the situation worse".
A few hours later, the British foreign minister, David Lemmy of the Labour Party, addressed Iran in this way: "We did not participate in the attacks (by Israel and America)."
In other words, we British ostriches have nothing to do with it.
When Trump took out Iranian general Soleimani, German foreign minister Heiko Maas was quick to distance himself from the raid ("it will not help reduce tensions") and to point out that "as Europeans, we have reliable channels of dialogue with both sides".
In mid-June, Israeli forces launched an unprecedented offensive against Iran, targeting military and nuclear infrastructure. The message from Jerusalem was unmistakable: Israeli deterrence is real and not subject to diplomatic concessions from anyone.
The European Union issued ritual calls for "moderation on all sides", carefully avoiding any statement that might offend Tehran, always expecting the liquidation of the Iranian nuclear threat to be carried out by others.
The exasperating European inertia is the result of impotence, which in turn is the result of a great misunderstanding that grew in the shadow of US military and political tutelage, progressively eroded since 1989 and now openly under discussion.
If Israeli pilots hadn’t bombed Iran’s nuclear project, who else would have? The RAF? The French? The Germans? After all these years and all these "talks," the only country that finally intervened was the one with the most at stake: the one that Ayatollah Khamenei and his predecessors always said they wanted to annihilate like a "tumor."
Israel acts because it must, because its survival demands it and as Melanie Phillips wrote, it has become the moral compass of the free world. America acts from principle because Trump wants to protect Western ideals. And he has secured his place in history, as has Benjamin Netanyahu. Europe doesn’t act because it no longer knows what it stands for.
And the implications are clear.
Some European leaders have "Das Houellebecq-Problem", as Die Welt calls it: Emmanuel Macron is siding with the Islamists and against the Jews because of "French demographic dynamics," not to mention the trade surplus with Iran. "Recognize the Palestinian state to appease French Muslims": this is the recommendation contained in a dossier from the Ministry of the Interior in Paris.
Clear?
It’s not about Gaza, it’s about us, in Europe!
Along the corridors of the Paris Air Show, the French air show, the stands of Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael, Uvision, Elbit and Aeronautics were fenced off with two-meter-high fences covered in black cloth, preventing access (and even a view) of the Israeli stands, at the same time that the Israeli air force was bombing Iranian atomic sites.
Brilliant, these French.
Those black panels reminded me of others.
The ones used by the Italian government to cover the statues of the Capitoline nudes in Rome during the visit of Iranian President Hassan Rohani. At the time, in Le Figaro, I called it "the little Italy that submits to Iran".
In 1976, Saddam Hussein’s Iraq purchased a nuclear reactor from France. While Iraq and France claimed that the reactor, called "Osirak" by the French, was intended for "peaceful scientific research", Israel rightly saw it differently and destroyed the reactor in 1981. Thank God.
European dhimmitude was also atomic.
From Swiss President Alain Berset to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, European chancelleries specialize in congratulatory telegrams for the anniversary of the Islamic Republic.
In the European squares these days there is not a single demonstration for Israel or even one from the Iranian diaspora: only Islamic flags and slogans of submission. And Israeli flags are burned, in Italy, not in Tehran.
In what imaginary world do Europe’s statesmen live - under the blackmail of multiculturalism, fear of their own shadows and their own cultural cowardice?

[CenterForImmigrationStudies] Our analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics household survey, officially called the Current Population Survey (CPS), shows a large decline in the foreign-born or immigrant population (legal and illegal) between January and May of this year. The decline was caused by a falloff in the number of non-citizens from Latin America who arrived in 1980 or later, a population that overlaps significantly with illegal immigrants. We preliminarily estimate that the number of illegal immigrants has fallen by one million since the start of the year, perhaps due to their leaving in response to President Trump's election and stepped-up enforcement efforts. But it is important to note that these findings come with important caveats.
Findings:
Based on the CPS, published figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that the number of foreign-born individuals in the labor force declined by 601,000 from January to May 2025.
Our analysis of the raw data shows the total foreign-born population, both in and out of the labor force, declined 957,000 from January to May 2025. This is one of the largest declines over a 4-month period in the foreign-born in the last three decades, but it is not unprecedented.
The decline was entirely among non-citizens. The number of naturalized U.S. citizens in the data did not fall from January to May of this year.
In particular, non-citizens from Latin America who indicated they arrived in the United States in 1980 or later show a 1.07 million decrease from January to May of this year and a 1.45 million falloff since December 2024.

[BREITBART] Border Patrol agents in the greater Los Angeles area came under attack by residents unhappy with the ongoing deportation operations in two separate incidents. In one attack, a motorist rammed a Border Patrol vehicle, and vehicles were vandalized. On Friday, significant damage to units occurred after rocks were thrown, and tires were slashed.
The violent mostly peaceful attacks occurred on Friday and began at approximately 3: oo p.m., in Bell, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, on Atlantic Avenue. According to the Bell Police Department, a Jeep collided with an unmarked Border Patrol vehicle and became lodged underneath. Initial reports indicated a child may have been involved in the accident and emergency services might be required.
As coppers arrived, Border Patrol agents came under attack after a crowd of citizens breached traffic safety barricades. In a statement issued by the Bell Police Department, the crowd attacked the agents and vandalized police vehicles. Bell Police officers summoned additional assistance from Bell Gardens, Vernon, Huntington Park, South Gate, and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

[X] Still an interim step — the actual banning is up to Parliament.
London (June 23) — Leftist and Muslim rioters gather to express support for terrorist group Palestine Action after the government announced plans to ban it. Palestine Action had attacked a military base. pic.twitter.com/UZEMv1EReD
[IsraelTimes] Members of Palestinian Action, which vandalized UK military planes last week, clash with police in London protest as home secretary unveils ban, which requires Parliament approval
Britannia said on Monday it would use anti-terrorism laws to ban the campaign organization Paleostine Action, making it a criminal offense to belong to the group after its activists damaged two UK military planes in protest at London’s support for Israel.
The proscription would put the pro-Paleostinian group on par with Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... , al-Qaeda or ISIS under British law, making it illegal for anyone to promote it or be a member. Those who breach the ban could face up to 14 years in jail.
Members of the group clashed violent mostly peacefully with coppers during a protest in London’s Trafalgar Square on Monday, after it was forced to relocate its planned protest outside the British Parliament, staged amid reports that the ban was set to be announced.
Paleostine Action has regularly targeted British sites connected to Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems as well as other companies in Britannia linked to Israel since the start of the conflict in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... in 2023.
In its latest and most high-profile action, two of its members entered a Royal Air Force base in central England on Friday, spraying paint into the engines of the Voyager transport aircraft and further damaging them with crowbars.
"The disgraceful attack on Brize Norton... is the latest in a long history of unacceptable criminal damage committed by Paleostine Action," Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said in a written statement to parliament. "The UK’s defense enterprise is vital to the nation’s national security and this government will not tolerate those that put that security at risk."
She said the group’s actions had become more aggressive and caused millions of pounds of damage.
Under British law, the Home Secretary can ban a group if it is believed it commits, encourages or "is otherwise concerned in terrorism." The banning order will be laid before parliament on June 30 and will come into effect if approved.
Paleostine Action, which says Britannia is an "active participant" in the conflict in Gaza because of military support it provides to Israel, called the ban "an unhinged reaction" that it would challenge, and accused Cooper of making a series of "categorically false claims."
Earlier on Monday, the group was forced to change the location of a planned protest after police banned it from staging a demonstration outside parliament, otherwise a popular location for protests in support of a range of causes.
The group said in response that it changed the location of its protest to Trafalgar Square, which lies just outside a police exclusion zone.
Gathering in Trafalgar Square, members of the group and its supporters clashed violent mostly peacefully with coppers who sought to shut down the protest after the ban was announced.
Protesters surged toward police when officers tried to detain someone, while onlookers chanted "let them go." In a statement, London’s Metropolitan Police said Monday afternoon that they shut down the protest at 3 p.m. but that "crowds remained in the road."
"Officers moved in to give final warnings and a number of people who refused to leave were arrested," the police statement added. "The road is now clear."
Earlier, police said three other protesters had been arrested, two for obstruction and one for "a racially aggravated public order offense."
The police said late on Sunday that it would impose an exclusion zone for the protest planned by the group outside the Houses of Parliament.
"The right to protest is essential and we will always defend it, but actions in support of such a group go beyond what most would see as legitimate protest," Met Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said at the time.
Paleostine Action’s members are alleged to have caused millions of pounds of criminal damage, assaulted a police officer with a sledgehammer and, in the incident last week, damaged two military aircraft, Rowley added.
In recent months, the group has sprayed the London offices of Allianz Insurance with red paint over its alleged links to Israeli defense company Elbit, and vandalized US President Donald Trump ...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party... ’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland.

Tucker Carlson’s YouTube from June 18, 2025. It’s not his fault he completely got the situation wrong, as both the Trump administration and the Israelis had not yet Revealed All. Interestingly, the video was released with Russian subtitles.
Ted Cruz gives Carlson a good working-over and explains in small words what AIPAC is: patriotic Americans who strongly support the alliance between America and Israel. Carlson starts with his "Jews control the US government" conspiracy theories and Cruz takes him apart brick by brick. Cruz is a DC insider who is very familiar with AIPAC and knows what they do, and he's not having any of what Carlson is selling. It's beautiful to watch.
Carlson immediately retreats to the first resort of antisemites: JAQ. "Just asking questions". Tucker keeps JAQing off and Cruz slaps him soundly every time. Tucker even literally says "The Jews" while making the quote marks gesture with his fingers.
I have to wonder if Mr. Carlson is actually neutral on Israel and “The Jews”, just catering to the noisy, Israel-hating part of his audience rather than leading them, because he objects to the idea of a monolithic group called The Jews with scare quotes — I never got my news from television, so know nothing about the man except what I’ve read here at Rantburg. Senator Cruz makes a really good point that as a politician he can find donors for whatever positions he takes, and that he was a supporter of Israel long before AIPAC discovered him.

An Iraqi border guard officer told AFP that Khalil and a member of an Iraqi gang were killed by "an Israeli dronezap" after crossing into the neighboring country.
The Iraqi group, the Sayyed al-Shuhada Brigades, said that the commander of its security unit, Haider al-Moussawi, was killed in the "Zionist attack", along with Khalil and his son Mahdi.
The former bodyguard had appeared alongside Nasrallah for years during the leader's rare public appearances.
The two men also shared family ties, with one of Khalil's sons married to a granddaughter of Nasrallah.
During Nasrallah's funeral in February, Khalil stood atop the vehicle carrying the slain leader's body.
The funeral drew a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people, the first mass event organized by Hezbollah since the end of its war with Israel.
Separately, five children were maimed in Iraq on Saturday by fallen debris from a missile near the town of Dujail in the northern province of Salaheddin, security and medical sources told AFP on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak to the media.

A security source in the area confirmed the children were maimed by "a fallen fragment from a missile".
The origin of the missile was not clear.
Since Israel launched its unprecedented attack on Iran last week, Iranian missiles and drones have been crossing paths with Israeli warplanes in the skies over Iraq, forcing Iraq to close its airspace to commercial traffic.

[Regnum] The Russian medium-range hypersonic missile system Oreshnik has proven itself well in combat conditions. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 23 at a meeting with the best graduates of military universities in the Kremlin.
“Serial production of the latest medium-range missile system ‘Oreshnik’ is underway, which has proven itself very well in combat conditions,” the head of state specified.
Putin added that the Navy will include new ships and submarines equipped with the latest generation of high-precision weapons.
In addition, according to the president, Russia pays special attention to its strategic nuclear forces.
“Thus, modern Yars systems will be delivered to the strategic missile forces, and the aviation component of the strategic nuclear forces will be replenished with modernized Tu-160M missile carriers this year,” the Russian leader added.
On November 21, 2024, the Russian military used the Oreshnik missile system for the first time, striking the Yuzhmash military plant in Dnepropetrovsk. The attack was carried out in response to the Ukrainian army's use of NATO ATACMS systems. The Oreshnik has no analogues.
The missiles can hit highly protected targets and objects located at great depth. Dozens of self-separating warheads of the missile develop a speed of about 3 km/s, and the temperature of the striking elements reaches 4 thousand degrees.

[Regnum] Russia's nuclear forces will be replenished with Yars strategic missile systems and Tu-160M missile carriers in 2025. This was announced on June 23 by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with graduates of military universities in the Kremlin.
Putin noted that one of the priority areas continues to be the technical modernization of the Russian ground forces and navy, primarily within the framework of a new large-scale and long-term state armament program.
"We will pay special attention to our "nuclear triad". Thus, modern "Yars" systems will be delivered to the strategic missile forces, and the aviation component of the strategic nuclear forces will be replenished with modernized Tu-160M missile carriers this year," the head of state specified.
He added that the country is also launching serial production of the Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic missile system, which has proven itself well in combat conditions.
In addition, the President stated that new ships and submarines will be added to the Navy.
On June 11, Putin said that the share of modern weapons in Russia’s nuclear triad is 95%, the highest figure in the world.
The head of state also stressed that special attention should be paid to the country's nuclear triad. He recalled that it was and remains the guarantor of Russia's sovereignty, and also plays a vital role in ensuring the balance of power in the world.
On December 16, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced that four Tu-160M missile carriers would be delivered to the troops in 2025. Along with them, the strategic nuclear submarine Prince Pozharsky and new models of high-strength equipment for soldiers will be transferred.

[Regnum] The number of victims since the anniversary of the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall has increased to 149 people, 609 were injured and traumatized. Updated data was reported on June 23 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko.
A year after the terrorist attack in March 2025, committed by people from Central Asia before a concert of the group "Piknik" in a concert hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, 146 people were reported dead, six of them children.
Since then, three missing persons have been declared dead by the courts. Another person remains missing.
A representative of the Russian Investigative Committee noted that the agency had completed the investigation into 19 defendants in the criminal case, and the materials had been sent to the prosecutor for transfer to the court.
“The preliminary investigation is ongoing in relation to the two organizers and four members of the terrorist organization,” the press service of the Russian Investigative Committee reports Petrenko as saying.
The department also clarified that the terrorist act in the concert hall was committed in the interests of Ukraine in order to destabilize the political situation in Russia.
More from Kavkaz-uzel.eu Investigation into case of 19 accused in Crocus terrorist attack completed
The investigation into the case of 19 people accused of involvement in the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall outside Moscow has been completed, and their case has been transferred to the prosecutor's office. Six more people remain under investigation in the terrorist attack case.
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, on March 22, 2024, armed men broke into the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, opened fire and set it on fire. 145 people died, the FSB classified the incident as a terrorist attack. This terrorist attack was the largest in the Moscow region in 30 years.
In April 2024, four Tajik citizens and a Russian citizen, Shakhromdzhon Gadoev, Mustakim Soliev, Zubaydullo Ismailov, Umedzhon Soliev and Khusein Khamidov, who worked as tilers at construction sites in Makhachkala and Kaspiysk, were arrested in Dagestan. The investigation believes that they were preparing a terrorist attack in Kaspiysk and supplied weapons to those involved in the attack on Crocus City Hall. In November 2024, Ingush residents Khusein Medov and Dzhabrail Aushev were detained in connection with the terrorist attack. The investigation links them to the recognized terrorist militant wing of the Ingush vird of the Batalkhadzhins. In December 2024, four more Ingush residents were detained on suspicion of aiding the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.
The criminal case against 19 defendants in the case of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall has been sent to the prosecutor's office for transfer to court, and the investigation against two organizers and four members of the terrorist organization is still ongoing, said Svetlana Petrenko, a representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
The investigation into the case against Shamsiddin Fariduni, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Muhammadsobir Faizov, Saidokram Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shakhromdzhon Gadoyev, Zubaydullo Ismoilov, Khusein Khamidov, Muhammad Zoir Sharipzoda, Yakubdzhoni Davlatkhon Yusufzoda, Nazrimad Lutfulloi, Jumakhon Kurbonov, Khusein Medov, Dzhabrail Aushev, Alisher Kasimov, Umedzhon and Mustakim Soliev, Isroil Islomov, as well as Dilovar and Aminchon Islomov has been completed. The investigation believes that all of them were members of the terrorist organization "Vilayat Khorasan", banned in Russia. Depending on the role of each, they are accused of especially serious crimes.
"The investigation has established that this inhuman crime was planned and committed in the interests of the current leadership of Ukraine with the aim of destabilizing the political situation in our country. In addition, a number of the accused planned to blow up an entertainment complex in the city of Kaspiysk in the Republic of Dagestan, but this crime was prevented," RIA Novosti quotes a representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia as saying today.
According to the investigation, preparations for the terrorist attack began several months before it was committed. Some of the defendants arrived in Russia from abroad, where they had undergone initial training. Some were already in Russia, looking for means and tools to commit the crime. Others were constantly remaking firearms and handing them over to members of the terrorist organization. The weapons were brought to Kaspiysk, from where they were delivered to Moscow immediately before the terrorist attack, TASS writes.

Iran, in another strike, attacked the entire territory of Israel from north to south with missiles and kamikaze drones. This was reported on June 23 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"The IRGC has changed its tactics in shelling Tel Aviv and Haifa and is targeting numerous targets from the north to the south of the occupied territories," the Nour News agency quotes the military as saying.
It will be specified that during the morning combined strike, solid-fuel missiles and liquid-fuel warheads, as well as kamikaze drones, were used.
According to preliminary data, Iranian missiles struck the northern part of Haifa, Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, Acre and Ashdod, as well as Safed, Lachish and Beisan, the IRGC noted.
More from regnum.ru Israel says it hit missile storage sites in western Iran
The Israeli Air Force, using 15 fighter jets, carried out a series of strikes on missile and drone storage sites in western Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported.
"[A total of] 15 fighter jets recently carried out a large-scale wave of strikes in western Iran. Underground military facilities, missile storage sites and drones belonging to the Iranian armed forces were attacked, " the statement reads.
The text also claims that the Israeli Air Force struck central Iran, which allegedly destroyed installations ready to fire in the direction of the Jewish state.
Earlier on June 23, Israel said it had struck six airfields in western, eastern and central Iran, claiming that runways, underground facilities and at least one tanker aircraft were damaged.
Even more from regnum.ru Pentagon confirms Iranian missile attack on US airbase in Qatar
The Pentagon confirmed that the American military base Al-Udeid in Qatar was attacked on June 23 by short- and medium-range missiles launched from Iranian territory. This is stated in a written statement by an American official.
Pentagon confirms Iran's medium-range missile strike on US airbase in Qatar
"I can confirm that the Al Udeid airbase was attacked today by short- and medium-range ballistic missiles launched from Iran. There are currently no reports of losses on the US side," follows from the text cited by RIA Novosti.
It is also noted that the US Department of Defense intends to continue to monitor the situation.
Earlier on June 23, the Iranian Armed Forces confirmed the strike on the American military base in Qatar. The statement emphasized that the attack was carried out in response to Washington's aggression against the Islamic Republic.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the night of June 22, the United States Air Force carried out a series of strikes on the Iranian cities of Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow. US President Donald Trump said that the attacks targeted facilities allegedly related to the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. The head of the White House also demanded that Tehran make a deal with Washington, threatening consequences for the Iranian side in case of refusal.
"Over 50 fighter jets" targeted and struck "military command centers belonging to the Iranian regime. The sites struck included missile and radar production sites and missile storage infrastructure in Tehran," the IDF later confirmed.
During the strikes, Israel targeted various locations in Tehran, which included the Basij headquarters and Evin Prison.
The Basij is a paramilitary militia part of the IRGC. The United States designated both the IRGC and Basij terrorist entities.
The Alborz Corps, responsible for the security of several cities in the Tehran District, was also struck, the IDF said. The IDF added that various parts of the Iranian regime's military forces were hit, along with assets belonging to the Internal Security Forces and the IRGC.
The IDF also struck the Tharallah headquarters, which is a command within the IRGC and responsible for defending Tehran against security threats, Israel's military added.
The waves of Israeli strikes started following Iran's multiple barrages of missiles directed at Israel, which impacted various areas across the country, including a strategic electric infrastructure facility in southern Israel.

[REGNUM] At the beginning of the 18th century, Vyborg, a small fortress town in a convenient bay founded by the Swedes in 1293, became a significant threat to the young Northern capital of Russia. After the victory at Poltava in 1709, Tsar Peter I decided to finally cut the Swedes off from Russian possessions in the Baltics. By 1710, columns of the Russian army and navy rushed to the Karelian coast - 13 thousand people under the command of General Admiral Fyodor Apraksin. The Russians faced the most important task - to ensure a security zone in the adjacent part of Finland and protect the rear of St. Petersburg from threats from the north.
Vyborg, which allowed the Swedes to close off the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland (and therefore the mouth of the Neva with the newly built St. Petersburg), as well as control the Karelian Isthmus, had already become a cause for concern for the Russian command more than once.
Peter I first attempted to capture Vyborg in 1706, but the poorly supplied and underprepared army was forced to retreat without achieving any results. This defeat clearly demonstrated that success would require not only force, but also endurance, engineering skill, and naval support.
RUSSIAN BRUCE VS. SWEDISH AMINEV
After the defeat of the main Swedish forces at Poltava in 1709 and the collapse of attempts at a diplomatic settlement, the campaign against Vyborg was again on the agenda. In the spring of 1710, Peter gathered troops and approved a carefully planned offensive.
On April 1, Apraksin's corps, having overcome a difficult path across the still frozen Gulf of Finland, quickly reached the walls of Vyborg. According to contemporaries, movement across the melting ice required exceptional discipline and determination: soldiers walked across ice floes, risking falling into the water, carrying guns and supplies.
The Russian army quickly encircled the fortress, cutting it off from possible help from the land. At the same time, another part of the operation was unfolding in the Baltic: the fleet was making its way through the ice fields and storms of the Gulf of Finland to the siege site.
The fortress garrison numbered about six thousand people, well armed and provided with artillery. It was headed by Colonel Zacharias Aminoff, an elderly and experienced Swedish officer of Russian origin (one of the descendants of the Ivangorod voivode Fyodor Aminev, who defected to the Swedes during the Time of Troubles).
Despite the prolonged spring, the cold and the shifting ice, the besiegers continued to attack vigorously. Under the leadership of General Feldzeugmeister Jacob Bruce and engineer Georg Bernoulli, there was continuous artillery fire, digging and laying of earth mines.
By the end of April, with the arrival of reinforcements and the strengthening of the fleet, the Russian troops deployed heavy siege artillery. Two batteries were aimed at the stone fortifications of the old city, the third at the earthen ramparts of the bastion part. The guns were installed with the expectation of prolonged shelling: preparations were underway for the decisive blow.
WILL THERE BE AN ASSAULT?
In the tradition of siege warfare, Apraksin sent an ultimatum to the Swedish commandant Aminoff: to surrender the fortress “on the accord that (the commandant) desires.” This meant that Aminoff was offered surrender on some compromise terms.
To which the commandant calmly replied: “Why would I surrender a defensive and armed fortress?” – this is what the oath obliged him to answer even in the most desperate situation.
The Russians ordered the preparation of pontoon bridges and assault columns - they were going to take the Scandinavian outpost by force.
On May 31, Apraksin received permission to begin the assault as soon as a breach appeared. The very next day, he again offered the enemy to surrender, but was refused. On the evening of June 1, a five-day artillery bombardment began, which caused serious damage to the fortress walls and the city. The Swedes staunchly resisted and responded with fire, but were unable to turn the tide.
An important success was the capture of a key fortification, which opened the way to the bastion and allowed the preparation of assault vehicles. Despite losses, the positions were held. There was no help to be expected from outside: attempts to break through to the besieged were unsuccessful. The situation for the Swedish garrison became critical.
By June 9, the assault had been carefully prepared, the troops were distributed into columns and supplied with the necessary equipment. The plan called for decisive action on both sides and strict discipline. Meanwhile, the enemy, realizing the hopelessness of the situation, began negotiations for surrender. Despite stubborn resistance, it was clear that there would be no help; the arrival of His Majesty helped catalyze the capitulation.
CAPITULATION AND HONORS TO THE VICTORS
On June 12 (23), 1710, the negotiations finally ended with an agreement to capitulate the fortress. The Swedish garrison, devastated by the hurricane fire, surrendered with honor. The next day, the Russian Tsar triumphantly entered the city at the head of the Preobrazhensky Regiment. He found 141 cannons, gunpowder supplies, and 5,500 rifles here – huge trophies.
At first, there were plans to exchange the nearly 3,400 Swedish soldiers and officers who had been taken prisoner, but Peter I rejected this, reproaching the Stockholm government for its cruelty in treating Russian prisoners and for refusing to exchange the Russian ambassador, Prince Andrei Khilkov, who had been arrested by the Swedes.
The celebration was loud and wide. Peter I awarded the participants of the siege: officers were given gold medals, and privates - silver. Apraksin was awarded the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called.
In honor of the victory, a commemorative silver medal with a diameter of 46 mm was minted with an image of the siege plan and Latin inscriptions. This medal became a symbol of the return of Vyborg and the adjacent Karelian lands to Russia, which had been developed by Novgorodians in the early Middle Ages.
OPEN BALTIC
The capture of Vyborg in 1710 was of enormous strategic importance. This fortress was the main Swedish bastion in the North-West and stood on the way to St. Petersburg. Russia for the first time finally cut off Sweden from its possessions in Eastern Finland. Now the Baltic Sea was open to the Russian fleet: St. Petersburg received a reliable outlet to the sea, and the Russians began mass colonization and fortification of the coasts of Finland.
The Petersburg and Karelian directions quickly entered the sphere of Russian influence: new fortresses, settlements and roads were founded along the Karelian Isthmus. Russian naval forces consolidated their positions on Kotlin Island, guarding the Neva Bay. The fortress of Kronstadt was built on this island.
By September 1721, according to the Treaty of Nystad, practically all of Swedish Finland (including Kexholm and the Åland Islands) was ceded to Russia. Peter's creation received a reliable shield for many centuries: " And so, through the capture of this city (Vyborg), St. Petersburg received its final security," the autocrat wrote.
THERE, 230 YEARS LATER
When the Red Army entered Vyborg (called Viipuri when it was part of Finland) in March 1940, history came full circle. Exactly 230 years after the city first became part of Russia thanks to the efforts of Peter the Great, it returned once again under the Russian flag – this time under the banner of the Soviet Union. And just as in the 18th century this was dictated by strategic considerations for the protection of St. Petersburg, so in the 20th century Moscow acted in the interests of the security of Leningrad, the new capital of the North.
After the collapse of the Russian Empire, Vyborg found itself outside the new state border. Finland, previously the grand ducal outskirts of the empire, became a hostile buffer. Leningrad, one of the most important industrial and cultural centers of the USSR, became a dangerously close front line, fortified under the command of Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, a general who had once served the Russian Empire. Like Aminoff, who defended Vyborg from Peter the Great, Mannerheim found himself in the role of a commandant who had come out against his historical homeland.
The Soviet command could not allow a repeat of the threat from the north. The breakthrough of the Mannerheim Line became a symbol of Moscow's military will to restore control over key positions on the Karelian Isthmus. This had not only military but also historical logic: the return of Vyborg was an act of restoring natural borders.
And again on the 12th the northwestern neighbor capitulates, although this time with the signing of a peace treaty in Moscow, on March 14, 1940 the last Finnish units left Viipuri. Two wars, two centuries, two empires - and one constant task: the defense of the Northern capital, no matter what it is called, St. Petersburg or Leningrad.
History, as we know, does not repeat itself literally, but sometimes it rhymes. And in March 1940, the echo of Peter's victory once again sounded over the shores of the Vyborg Bay.

[REGNUM] On June 22, a terrorist attack occurred in the Church of St. Elijah in the suburbs of Damascus. As a result of the attack, representatives of the Christian denomination, including several foreigners, were killed.
The attack on the Greek Orthodox diocese was far from the first terrorist attack on religious sites in Syria, but it was the first major attack on Christians since the change of power in Damascus. And how the Syrian government responds to this challenge will largely determine its future relations with local minorities.
ATTACK ON THE CHURCH
According to information from Syrian security forces, a lone radical belonging to ISIS* attacked parishioners during a Sunday service, opening fire on them with small arms.
Some time later, when the scene of the terrorist attack was cordoned off by police, he entered into a shootout with them and then blew himself up.
According to various sources, between 30 and 100 people died in the attack. Of these, at least a dozen died on the spot. Another ten died on the way to hospitals and on operating tables.
At the same time, the attacker, as noted, did not take hostages and did not make any demands on the security forces, which allows the attack to be characterized as an act of intimidation without a clear political subtext.
DELAYED REACTION
Although the Syrian government almost immediately blamed ISIS* for the attacks, the group only claimed responsibility for the attack 10 hours later, calling it a "contribution to the defeat of the apostates."
According to terrorist media resources, the attack highlighted Damascus's inability to protect its citizens even near the capital, let alone the outskirts, where ISIS* activity is many times higher.
However, radical propagandists described the terrorist attack in extremely general terms, without naming the attacker or his motives.
This is noticeably different from their usual tactics, when a broad ideological basis is provided for the actions of the adherents of the "caliphate" in Syria, and the "semantic roots" of the attack are linked to the plots of Islamic history. Here, the information was presented in the most routine manner and tied exclusively to the events of the present day.
Such uncharacteristic stinginess in details allows us to assume that the radical who attacked the church was a lone wolf and acted without instructions “from above,” although he could well have shared the ideas of ISIS* or its allied groups.
However, the ambiguities did not prevent the radicals from ultimately taking credit for the attack and presenting it as one of the signs of their own growing power in the fight against the new Syrian authorities.
COUNTER-ACCUSATIONS
The attack on the Christian minority has once again stirred up discussions about the ability of the new authorities to fulfill their promises and “return Syria to peaceful life”; to protect the “suffering” national and religious minorities.
Some Syrian leaders, out of old habit, tried to convert tensions into political points and blame the tensions on the “surviving supporters of the old regime.”
For example, the country's Minister of Culture, Mohammed Yassin Saleh, stated that the destabilization of minorities is beneficial to "those parties that suffered the most from the fall." Thus hinting at the participation in the attack of representatives of the defeated republic, of whom there are still many in both the security and civilian agencies.
The placement of former associates of ousted President Bashar al-Assad on the same level as radicals suggests that the search for compromise between yesterday's opponents is still complicated, and not all of the new Syrian elite agree to peacefully coexist with the vanquished.
However, opponents of the current Syrian authorities also did not remain in debt and recalled Damascus' controversial management decisions. Among them, for example, the integration of Uyghur militants from the "Islamic Party of Turkestan"* (IPT*) into the ranks of the army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Considering that many IPT* leaders still have close ties with terrorist cells, their inclusion in government structures significantly simplifies the radicals' planning and execution of operations.
The version that was spread on emigrant resources (especially on the X network) was that the person who attacked the church had previously served in the ranks of the “Security Service” of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham* group, from whose leadership part of the current Syrian cabinet “grew” – including the country’s interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
Thus, the opposition placed responsibility for the terrorist attack directly on the country's leadership. However, this version was not confirmed.
KEEPING BALANCE
However, even taking into account the sharp rhetoric, neither side of the conflict is interested in elevating the voiced accusations to absolutes. Excessive pressure on Damascus could provoke the authorities to expand repressive measures against the internal opposition.
In this case, the al-Sharaa government risks repeating the same scenario as earlier with the Druze and Alawites.
Damascus does not want to create another hotbed of tension in the country, and therefore quickly shifted the emphasis in its accusations from the “Assad camp” to the terrorist underground.
Former supporters of the republic also agreed to “shift the blame” to ISIS*, due to the fact that the camp of supporters of ex-President Assad is still segmented. Most of its leaders are either in exile or do not have sufficient authority to challenge Damascus and “take” minorities under their protection.
One way or another, today's Damascus will have to seriously reconsider the model for preventing terrorist attacks, especially since the strategy for fighting ISIS, with an emphasis on destroying cells in border areas, has weakened attention to the capital region. The radicals have not failed to take advantage of this.

[REGNUM] This spring I was in the Kursk region, next to the recently liberated Sudzha.
I recorded many interviews: with people who spent seven months under occupation, and with fighters who took part in Operation Pipe. Each conversation is unique.
It's time to introduce you to the Belobrov family, who survived the occupation in Sudzha. The interview with Svetlana Belobrova was recorded on the phone at a temporary accommodation point on the day of the evacuation.
A FAMILY DIED BEFORE OUR EYES
— How did you find out that the Ukrainian offensive had begun?
— We woke up from such a blow that our house jumped. We, as we heard earlier, when we came to our house in the village, heard that it was flying. Well, like, we already knew. And we woke up from such a blow. Aviation was flying. And HIMARS or something like that, not far from us.
And that's it, our lights went out. My husband said: that's it. It's an attack. And they started writing on social networks, my husband was watching. That's how we found out that we were being bombed.
- And you didn’t have time to get out?
— We didn’t have time to leave, because it all happened early in the morning on the sixth (of August), and the eldest son went to work on the night from the sixth to the seventh. And how could we leave our son? We waited for him half the night, we were on edge, we were all on edge…
- Is he back?
— I came back, everything was fine. And then… And then it was dangerous to drive, because on our street… drones were hitting civilian cars. We saw a car hit, everyone died: husband, wife, child.
— You didn’t see it from the window?
- We were on the street. And after that it was somehow clear... you won't leave, that's it. All that's left is to hide.
- And you went into the basement after that?
- No, we lived in the apartment for all these seven months.
They came to our house, looking for our soldiers. Politely. They asked us to come into the apartment, to have a look. That was it, they didn’t come again. But we saw them go to the neighboring house. They were looting. They took everything: gold, household appliances, cars…
— And nothing was touched at your place?
— We tried, of course. We got our car back so many times. Different people could come five times a day.
- Dad, do you need a car? - Yes, I do. - Okay, that's it.
Others arrive in an hour or an hour and a half. The next ones drive in. But there have been cases where they almost shot.
- Why did you defend this car? They could have killed you for it?
— They defended it to the very end. Because when you work for this machine for half your life... Well, they saved it, they fought it off.
— And how did the children feel?
— They didn’t touch the children. My husband once met a Ukrainian on the street, and he said: “Tell the children not to touch anything on the road, not to take anything in their hands, neither objects nor money.”
You dig trenches, and we'll give the children for organs
- You probably lived every day with fear? Just like a mother.
- Yes, like a mother - with fear, of course. Not so much the day as the night. Because it's night, and the arrivals begin: bang, and bang, and bang. Where is it flying? Where will it arrive? You still somehow hold on during the day, but at night it's already scary.
But we supported each other. We tried. My husband said: "You are a mother. Hold on, hold on."
— And you didn’t touch the older one?
— They didn’t touch us. There was an incident once. We found out that they were here for two weeks, then they would leave on rotation, and others would come. And one day they came, so cheerful… stoned, I think. And it started: “You’re going to dig trenches now, and we’ll take the children for organs…” Of course, it was scary. But they were afraid of the commandant’s office. If you mentioned the commandant’s office, they would leave. But that was one time.
And usually - you wake up in the morning, you need to feed your family. You need to do laundry. You need to do something around the house. You need to keep yourself together.
— What was the worst thing?
— All these whistles, flights. I wasn't afraid for myself, but for the children — yes. As for cruelty... We, in the station part of the city, didn't have anything like that. But in the city, on Goncharovka and Onishchenko streets, they say there were very cruel people there.
— And how did the children experience it?
— We held on. Positive on positive… We sang songs. Here (nods at his daughter) is an energizer battery. And looking at it, how can we give up?
Relatives said, come to us. But how can we come when it is dangerous to go?
We had all the products, we stocked up. We built a stove. We baked bread. We exchanged food with our neighbors: bread, potatoes, milk, meat. Everyone helped each other.
— But did you perceive life during these months as an occupation?
- How else can you call it? Because there are Ukrainians everywhere, Ukrainians everywhere.
— Have they tried to have political conversations?
— No. They suggested leaving through Ukraine to Russia. We said no, if we leave, then straight to Russia. Not through Ukraine, not through other such countries.
— Were you hoping that you would want to go to Ukraine?
- Yes. They did such a good deed, they took people away, they are so good.
- Why did you refuse?
- Well, how is it? It's a foreign country. You come to Ukraine - and you're a disenfranchised Russian. Moreover, we've seen enough of all this stuff they do. They didn't touch us, but they took everything out of the city. From an entire motor transport company - all the equipment. All the stores were robbed, everything. They took away all the metal, boards, everything-everything-everything. Such is the poor, unfortunate country, they came to rob.
- Is it disgusting?
- Well, imagine if it's your thing and someone came and took it. When you're such a rich country, "we're going to Europe" - and you're the one robbing.
— But there were people who agreed to leave?
- Yes, there were some. Maybe it was hard for them, I don’t know, they were counting on coming back…
— Didn't you think it would just last forever? Seven months is a very long time.
- No, no, it didn't seem that way. It was just August 6th, and soon it would be New Year's. We thought so: maybe our people would come after New Year's.
We knew that our people would not leave us.
— And did you celebrate the New Year?
- Well, yes. We had toys, an artificial tree. Candy, lemonade.
— What did you wish for?
— I wanted it all to end faster.
— What was the hardest thing about the occupation?
— When we were sitting in the basement, on March 8th a rocket flew onto the road, and the windows in our apartment simply fell out.
— Have you ever had this feeling: Moscow is living its own life, and you are given away as a victim?
- No, we didn't think we were victims... Well, that's what happened. They won't leave us, they'll free us one day anyway.
— Do you think we were worried about you, or were we living our own lives?
- The man managed to leave, which means he's doing well. If people don't know this, then it's better for them not to know.
— We were very worried...
- That's understandable. We listened to the Russian news on the radio. They are liberating territories, evacuating, restoring, providing assistance.
— Was there ever a moment when you thought you were abandoned?
- No, no. There was no such thing. We always hoped that it would end someday. Our army is the strongest after all.
— And even though our army retreated?
— Because so much was invested in the Ukrainian army — both technically and financially. But we still believed that it would end, that our army was stronger and that it was impossible for us not to be liberated.
Grimy, in red bandages
- Now Sudzha is liberated. What was the day of our army's return like for you?
— We noticed that Ukrainians started leaving in groups. My husband was in the area around his house. And my friend and I saw soldiers walking between the houses — all so dirty… I looked closely — and they had red armbands. My husband said, “Guys, are you ours?” They said, “Ours!”
Well, there were emotions, of course. We weren't really on the street because there was a cleanup going on. Then another group and another!
— What did you feel then?
— I burst into tears.
- You know, in the six days in the pipe someone died because there was nothing to breathe. They died to get to you. What do you think about these soldiers now?
- Great job (cries).
- When Sudzha was captured, we thought something terrible had happened...
— And we believed that it would end soon...
— I thought that when we returned from here, it would be such a sharp, pure joy. But now for some reason there is no sharp joy.
- Maybe just tiredness. Because we waited a long time... But, of course, joy.
- Thank you for surviving. What will you do now?
— We are trying to leave for Kursk. We need to go to school, finish the school year. My daughter is in the seventh grade, my son is in the ninth. I will look for a job there. And the payments have increased now…
— You won’t return to Sudzha?
- No. I've been through so much...
— And where is your husband?
— My husband is staying there for now. And our cat is a coward, it’s not really possible to accommodate him in the temporary accommodation… My husband wants to come by car when it’s safe.
— This car is still very dear to my husband...
- Because it was hard to get, I saved it up penny by penny. Ours, a domestic car, an ordinary one. Well, that's just the way the man is.
- What do you do for a living?
— My husband is involved in setting up the equipment. And I am an assistant teacher in a kindergarten.
- That’s why you have such a calm voice... Thank you, Svetlana Alexandrovna!

[LB] The defense forces struck 6 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 2 artillery pieces and an enemy air defense system.
by Tetyana Boyarchuk
The 1216th day of the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has begun. Ukrainian defenders are steadfastly holding back the onslaught of the occupiers, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. In total, 142 combat clashes were recorded over the past day.

[NAHARNET] srael carried out Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in parts of south Leb ...Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects.... , including in Iqlim al-Tuffah.
Monday's airstrikes were more intense than the usual near-daily ones that Israel has carried out since a ceasefire ended its 14-month war with Hezbollah in November.
The strikes targeted the outskirts of Ansar-Zrariyeh, Tebna-Bissariyeh, Azza, Buslaya, Houmine al-Fawqa, Mazraat al-Mahmoudiyeh and al-Aishiyeh and came hours after Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qassem ... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies... said the group will not join the war between Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Qassem spoke in his first public comments since the U.S. inserted itself into the war on Sunday, saying his group is ready to back any decision taken by the Lebanese state to force Israel to stop the war.
Israeli's military said it struck rocket launchers and an arms depot for Hezbollah.

[Regnum] In the US state of Connecticut, police found the skeleton of a 73-year-old female detective in a pile of trash that had accumulated in her home. This was reported by the publication People.
Detective Mary Notarangelo retired in 1996. She lived alone in the house for all those years. Last July, a friend told police he had received a strange text message from a woman a few weeks earlier, complaining of stomach pain and vomiting. The man had asked to check on Notarangelo.
He waited weeks to ask for a welfare check?
To search for the woman, police brought in a specially trained dog and a drone. In addition, employees of the Environmental Protection Agency and a hazardous biological waste collection company took part in the search operation.
The detective's house had accumulated so much trash that it had to be cleared away with an excavator. The woman's body was eventually found in February 2025.
"I've never seen conditions like this," said Glastonbury Police Chief Marshall Porth.
He added that the remains of birds in cages and a large number of mice were also found in the house.
Forensic experts were unable to determine the cause of the detective's death due to advanced decomposition.
According to Fox News, the retired police detective, who admittedly had a hording problem, texted her friend on June 12, 2024. Three weeks later, he contacted the police, who first stopped by the house on July 3rd, then returned on the 5th, 11th, 12th, and November 20th without being able to find any sign of the lady. On February 24th the bio waste company went in with the excavator. NBC Connecticut reports:
On Feb. 24, an environmental services crew arrived with a small excavator. Plywood was removed from the front door area and crews used the excavator to carefully remove the contents of the home through the opening. Notarangelo's remains were discovered within minutes, police said.

...If you've ever seen Hoarders - and once you've seen it, it's like watching a train wreck - a surprising number of these people look and act remarkably well put together...until you see the inside of their homes. Sounds like DET Notarangelo may have come under that heading.
