Soldier killed, 16 injured by roadside bombs during operation in West Bank’s Jenin
[IsraelTimes] Army bulldozers didn’t detect large explosives buried deep under road in northern West Bank; most damage caused when 2nd bomb exploded as troops came to assist

An Israeli soldier was killed and several others were maimed by roadside kabooms in the northern West Bank’s Jenin refugee camp early on Thursday, the military said.

The slain soldier was named as Cpt. Alon Sacgiu, 22, a sniper team commander in the Kfir Brigade’s Haruv reconnaissance unit, from Hadera.

The Israel Defense Forces had been carrying out an overnight raid in Jenin aimed at arresting or killing members of a Hamas

terror network in the city and adjacent refugee camp. It was part of a long series of counter-terrorism operations in the area, military sources said.

According to an initial IDF probe, a Panther armored personnel carrier (APC) used by a medical force was hit by a bomb planted under a road in Jenin during the operation, at around midnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

The blast slightly hurt the soldiers inside the APC. As additional forces reached the scene and worked to evacuate the maimed soldiers, another bomb went kaboom!, leading to the death of Sacgiu and the injury of additional troops.

The Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

In all, 16 soldiers were maimed by the bombs — one seriously, five moderately, and the rest lightly.

The slain soldier and the more seriously maimed were all outside of their armored vehicle when the second bomb went off, according to the IDF’s initial probe. The APC was largely able to protect the soldiers inside from the initial attack, with only minor injuries from the blast and smoke inhalation.

Before the APC drove along the road where the attack took place, a military D9 bulldozer and backhoe had scraped the road to uncover any potential improvised bombs (IEDs).

Armed groups in Jenin frequently plant IEDs under roads to attack Israeli forces carrying out arrest raids, and as such, the military rips up the roads with armored bulldozers before entering with lighter-armed vehicles.

Still, the two large IEDs were not discovered by the bulldozer and backhoe, and the military believes that they were planted much deeper in the ground than usual — around a meter and a half (5 feet) below ground. Normally, such explosives are buried a few dozen centimeters (one or two feet) under roads.

The IDF was probing how the bombs were activated, either by wire or wirelessly. Findings at the scene indicated that both methods could have been used, an initial probe found.

The military was also investigating how to detect such IEDs better and how to extract maimed soldiers from such incidents in a safer manner.

Tensions have been high in the West Bank amid the war in the Gazoo

Strip, which began on October 7 when thousands of Hamas forces of Evil attacked southern Israel under a barrage of rockets fired at population centers all over the country. They brutally killed 1,200 people, amid instances of torture and rape, and seized 251 hostages.

Since October 7, troops have arrested some 4,150 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 1,750 affiliated with Hamas.

According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 540 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed amid raids or forces of Evil carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 21 Israelis, including security personnel, have been killed in Paleostinian terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another four members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank, including in Thursday’s incident.

City’s Shejaiya neighborhood to evacuate the area and head toward the designated "humanitarian zone" in the Strip’s south on Thursday as Paleostinian media reported a series of Israeli strikes and tanks advancing into the neighborhood.

Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Forces’s Arabic-language front man, published a list of the zones that needed to be evacuated alongside the announcement.

Residents in a messaging group shared video showing large numbers of people fleeing the neighborhood on foot with their belongings in their arms.

Israel accuses the forces of Evil of hiding among civilians and says it warns displaced people to get out of the way of its operations against the fighters.

in the south of the Gaza Strip, a group of Hamas operatives at a school in Khan Younis were targeted in an airstrike, the military said on Thursday.

According to the IDF, the al-Hasna school was being used by Hamas as a command center where operatives "planned, directed and carried out many attacks" against Israeli forces in the Strip.

The operatives were hit by fighter jets and drones.

The IDF said that the strike was "carefully planned and carried out," and it used precision munitions to mitigate harm to civilians.

Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashaal acknowledged in an interview with Sky News Arabic on Thursday the damage wrought on the territory in the aftermath of the terrorist organization’s October 7 attack.

"Gaza is now destroyed," he said. "Every fair-minded person sees that this is absolutely true."

since the start of the war, the United States has transferred security-related aid totaling some $6.5 billion to Israel, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing an American official.

"This is a massive, massive undertaking," the official said, noting that Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and his teams sat down with American officials and went over the "hundreds of separate items" sent to Israel during their visit to Washington this week.

The war in Gaza broke out on October 7 with Hamas’s unprecedented attack on southern Israel in which forces of Evil massacred some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took 251 hostages.

"Near-daily aerial bombardment, artillery shelling and the incendiary chemical white phosphorus have made much of the 5 kilometers north of the Blue Line uninhabitable," the report claimed.

The Financial Times analyzed data from commercial satellites with research from the CUNY Graduate Center and Oregon State University to detect changes to buildings.

According to the report, only "handfuls" of Lebanese civilians remain in the area, with most buildings empty and many destroyed. The analysis identified 1,500 badly damaged structures, although this figure was considered a "conservative lower-bound estimate." A Lebanese official, Hashem Haidar, told The Financial Times that 3,000 homes in the country’s south have been completely leveled, and 12,000 have incurred medium-level damage.

Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted in 2006 to bring an end to the war between Israel and Hezbollah terrorists, UN peacekeepers were deployed to monitor a ceasefire along the 120-kilometer (75-mile) demarcation line, or Blue Line, between Israel and Lebanon.

The resolution also called for Hezbollah to withdraw its forces behind the Litani River, some 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of the border with Israel— a demand the terror group has ignored.

The report quotes an unnamed Hezbollah terrorist as saying, "Asking us to withdraw from the south is like asking a fish not to swim in the sea."

Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there.

So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in 10 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 15 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.

Hezbollah has named 349 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 64 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have been killed.

Al-Aqsa imam indicted on charges of incitement to terrorism
[IsraelTimes] Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, former mufti of Jerusalem, is accused of praising terror attacks in 2022 in which four Israelis were killed; he says charges are ‘fabricated’

The imam of Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque denounced on Thursday a "fabricated" campaign against him after being charged with inciting terrorism for allegedly praising Paleostinian button men who killed four Israelis, including a soldier.

Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, 85, formerly mufti of Jerusalem and now head of the Supreme Islamic Council in the city, preaches at the contested Jerusalem holy site.

Sabri was indicted this week for inciting terrorism for comments he made that allegedly supported an attacker who shot at guards in the West Bank settlement of Maale Adumim, killing a soldier, in October 2022.

The imam is also accused of praising a second attacker, Raad Hazam, who killed three Israelis and maimed six others in an April 2022 shooting in Tel Aviv. The 28-year-old was later killed in a shootout with security guards.

"The state attorney’s office submitted to the Jerusalem magistrate court an indictment against... the former mufti of the city, after he incited terrorism and praised terrorists," the Justice Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.


It said Sabri had "praised and sympathized with terrorists" during a visit to Hazam’s family home.

Sabri denied the allegations.

"This is a false accusation; the indictment is fabricated and malicious," he said.

"Offering condolences does not mean that we support what the children did."

The al-Aqsa Mosque compound sits on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. The flashpoint site is considered the third holiest in Islam and the holiest in Judaism.

The site’s status is the emotional epicenter of the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, and even perceived changes have ignited previous rounds of violence.

Jews are officially only allowed to visit, but not pray.

Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir this month called for Jews to be allowed to pray at the sensitive site, but higher officials have rebuffed the idea, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said that the status quo will not change at the site.

The court’s Pre Trial Chamber I decided on Thursday to give the UK until July 12 to submit its brief, meaning that the decision-making process on whether or not to issue arrest warrants against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant will be suspended until a decision can be made on the UK’s challenge.

The UK’s brief noted that the court at the time ruled that it would need to make a final decision on Israel’s claim that the Paleostinian Authority’s request to join the ICC violates the Oslo Accords if and when an ICC prosecutor requests arrest warrants against Israeli nationals.

The UK’s argument is that the Paleostinian authorities cannot have jurisdiction over Israeli nationals under the terms of the Oslo Accords, and so it cannot transfer that jurisdiction over to the ICC to prosecute Israelis.

"The United Kingdom submits that the Chamber, pursuant to Article 19(1) of the Rome Statute, ’is required to make an initial determination of jurisdiction in resolving the application for arrest warrants’ of which ’[t]he Oslo Accords issue necessarily forms part,’" the court noted.

The court said that other member states of the ICC could file similar briefs if they so wished by the July 12 deadline.

Dr. Tal Mimran, a lecturer in law and technology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a program director at the Tachlith Institute, said he did not expect the decision to delay the ICC’s decision-making process on the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for very long.

ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan announced in May that he was seeking arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant due to suspected crimes of "causing extermination, causing starvation as a method of war including the denial of humanitarian relief supplies, deliberately targeting civilians in conflict."

The decision was fiercely criticized by Israel, the US and others, arguing among other claims that Israel’s independent judiciary and legal system was capable of investigating any criminal wrongdoing during the ongoing Gaza war, and that the prosecutor had not allowed enough time to Israel to exercise that power.

war, according to figures published Thursday by the Haaretz daily. The publication of the figures come after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s public claim last week that the US has been "withholding" weapons shipments from Israel.

Tracking the number of American military and civilian cargo planes landing in Israel from US military bases around the globe, Haaretz tallied 173 deliveries to date since October 7. The majority of flights landed in October (22), November (47), December (32), and January (20). Then, figures began tailing off significantly, with only eight planes arriving in February and 11 in March.

April saw a slight uptick to 17 against the backdrop of the Iranian missile and drone attack against Israel, which the US helped the Israel Defense Forces thwart.

But May and June saw a return to lower numbers, with seven and nine shipments landing in Israel respectively.

The tally doesn’t include another 100 leased cargo planes that originated from non-US Army bases. Also left out of the tally were dozens of US military planes that landed in Israel as part of visits by senior American officials, Haaretz said. Maritime arms shipments to Israel weren’t included either, even though ships are able to carry much larger cargo than planes.

On Wednesday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the Biden administration announced separately that progress had been made toward resolving what Jerusalem considers to be an insufficient flow of arms.

A senior Biden administration official briefing news hounds confirmed for the first time that there had been some "bottlenecks" in weapons transfers that are now being addressed.

The official clarified that these bottlenecks weren’t intentional and that Gallant’s meetings with brass hats in Washington were an opportunity for the US to order the acceleration of certain shipments while reprioritizing others based on Israel’s needs.

The comments were the closest the administration has come to confirming Netanyahu’s public claim last week that the US has been "withholding" weapons shipments and that there had been a "dramatic drop" in transfers. The accusation made in a video statement infuriated Washington, which vociferously denied the assertion and insisted that it has only held one transfer of heavy bombs that Biden didn’t want the IDF using in the densely populated Paleostinian city of Rafah.

As for other weapons shipments, the senior administration official said, "There are some things we are able to maybe pull up a little faster or reprioritize."

"The progress made [during Gallant’s meetings] was the ability to sit down with the people who do this work every day and go through every single case and where it is in the system."

"Where there were some misunderstandings, those were clarified," he added, noting the highly complex bureaucracy within the US weapons transfer system.

A US team went through each of the hundreds of planned weapons shipments with Israeli counterparts, explaining where each stood in the transfer process, the senior administration official said.

The official said that during the early months of the war, the US had been able to expedite the transfer of weapons that had been further along in the approval process. In recent months, though, such shipments ran low.

Moreover, Axios reported that some officials in the administration interpreted Biden’s freeze of the shipment of 2,000-pound bombs as a signal that all arms shipments should be scrutinized more closely, slowing the process in comparison to the beginning of the war.

Thursday’s action imposes sanctions on three companies based in the United Arab Emirates the US accused of being involved in the transport of Iranian petroleum or petrochemical products, as well as 11 associated vessels.

Earlier this month, the Group of Seven rich nations warned Iran against advancing its nuclear enrichment program and said they would be ready to enforce new measures if Tehran were to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia.

Iran rebuked the statement, calling on the G7 to distance itself from "destructive policies of the past," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said.

Earlier in June, the UN nuclear watchdog’s 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution calling on Iran to step up cooperation with the watchdog and reverse its recent barring of inspectors.

Iran is enriching uranium to up to 60 percent purity, close to the 90 percent of weapons-grade, and has enough material enriched to that level, if enriched further, for three nuclear weapons, according to an IAEA yardstick.

Western powers say there is no credible civilian reason for that. Iran says its aims are entirely peaceful but officials have recently said it could change its "nuclear doctrine" if it is attacked or its existence was threatened by arch-foe Israel. That has prompted alarm at the IAEA and in Western capitals.

About 3,000 people demonstrated outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home in Caesarea, according to unofficial estimates. In Jerusalem, a crowd estimated at some 5,000 people marched from the Chords bridge on the western edge of the city to Azza Street, where the prime minister also has a home. Smaller protests were also held in other cities around the country.

Protesters held signs calling for the removal of the government, blaming it for the lack of progress in reaching a deal to free hostages kidnapped on October 7 and mismanaging the war effort.

"We’ve been abandoned — Elections now!" read one sign that rose above the crowd. Demonstrators yelled through megaphones, waved flags and banged on snare drums while coppers stood at barricades.

"How much more blood will be spilled until you leave," protesters in Caesarea chanted, along with "bring home the hostages and leave."

As the sun began to set, protesters in Jerusalem blocked traffic and lit a large fire.

Police in Jerusalem said in a statement they were restoring order after demonstrators "set a fire in the middle of a road, in a residential neighborhood and another group of lawbreakers attempted to break through a police barricade."

There were no reports of major scuffles and police did not use a water cannon to control the crowd, as they have during more rowdy demonstrations. No arrests were announced.

Earlier in the day, police said they detained a suspect en route to Jerusalem with containers of flammable material and devices for creating smoke screens. Police also said they discovered a cache of tires stuffed with flammable cloths on Thursday morning, meant to be used to block traffic on Route 1.

In Caesarea, police reportedly found a smoke grenade attached to a wire in the area designated outside Netanyahu’s home designated for the demonstration.

Netanyahu’s Likud party complained in a statement that "incitement against Prime Minister Netanyahu has crossed another red line tonight... The writing is on the wall."

Among those demonstrating in Jerusalem was Einav Tzangauker, whose son Matan is being held captive in Gaza, who has become a central fixture of the near-nightly demonstrations.

"The prime minister decided to give up on the hostages," she said, accusing him of being less interested in winning the war or recovering the hostages than in staying in power.

"We will topple him to bring them home and to bring back security to the citizens of Israel," she declared. "There will not be a deal or reconstruction without the fall of the Netanyahu regime. When he falls, we will rise."

Efforts to reach an agreement with Hamas to free the estimated 116 hostages and remains still in captivity have failed to progress in recent weeks, with Hamas demanding the war first end before anyone in released, a condition rejected by Netanyahu’s government.

The US and Israel have both blamed Hamas for rejecting Israel’s last offer earlier this month.

Earlier Thursday, anti-government demonstrators blocked main highways near Tel Aviv and Haifa.

On the Ayalon Highway near Tel Aviv, demonstrators set a metallic cage on fire emblazoned with the word "Help."

Israel says at least 42 of those held by Hamas are no longer alive, and unofficial estimates are thought to be even higher, with families saying time is running short for those still alive. Despite conquering most of the Strip over the past eight months and decimating the terror group’s fighting forces, Israeli troops have only managed to recover seven hostages alive, and have failed to locate most of Hamas’s top leaders.

A week-long truce in November saw 105 civilians released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce, and four hostages were released prior to that. The bodies of another 19 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military.

Hamas is also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who were killed in 2014.

SCOTUS Hands DOJ another J6 Loss
[Townhall] In a 6-3 opinion, the Supreme Court handed down a massive blow to federal prosecutors, concluding, per SCOTUS Blog’s Amy Howe, that for the statute to be used in this way, there must be evidence to the fact that "the defendant impaired the availability or integrity for use in an official proceeding of records." In a blow to the narrative that the Supreme Court is rogue and right-wing, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson joined the majority. Justice Amy Coney Barrett dissented.

The question before the court was whether the "obstruction of an official proceeding" statute could be used in how the Justice Department weaponized it to go after hundreds of January 6 defendants. The plaintiff, Joseph Fischer, a former police officer, argued that the statute only pertained to evidence tampering in a congressional investigation.

The court reverses the D.C. Circuit, which had adopted a broader reading of the law to allow the charges against Fischer to go forward. The case now goes back to the D.C. Circuit -- which, the court says, can assess whether the indictment can still stand in light of this new and narrower interpretation.

SCOTUS overturns Chevron - Delivers a Kill Shot to Big Government
[PJ] Also overturned J6 Obstruction Law use. Presidential Immunity decision on Monday
Today, the Supreme Court ruled to overrule the so-called Chevron deference in a 6-3 decision. The ruling is a HUGE victory for those who hate the massive power the administrative state has amassed in recent decades.

Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, concluded: "Chevron is overruled."

In the most basic terms, the Chevron deference (also called the Chevron doctrine) allows the courts, through a two-step process, to defer to "reasonable" administrative agency interpretations if a federal statute is unclear or ambiguous. It was/is essentially a get-out-of-jail-free card for presidents and agency hacks who liked to claim that a law says whatever they want it to say. It gave federal agencies broad authority to regulate everything from health care to immigration to women's sports to Covid jabs.

According to Ballotpedia:

The principle derives its name from the 1984 U.S. Supreme Court case Chevron U.S.A., Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. which concerned disagreement over a change in the Environmental Protection Agency's interpretation of a permitting provision of the Clean Air Act of 1977. The case established a two-step review approach used by courts to analyze an agency's legal interpretations. Under the review process, courts consider (1) Congress' clear intent in passing a law and (2) (if the court finds ambiguities in the law) whether an agency's rule was reasonably construed and not arbitrary, capricious, or manifestly contrary to the statute.

Amy Howe at SCOTUSblog wrote:

Chevron, Roberts explains, [Chevron] "defies the command of" the Administrative Procedure Act, the law governing federal administrative agencies, "that the reviewing court--not the agency whose action it reviews--is to decide all relevant questions of law and interpret ... statutory provisions. It requires a court to ignore, not follow, the reading the court would have reached had it exercised its independent judgment as required by the APA."

Chevron's presumption that statutory ambiguities are implicit delegations of authority by Congress to federal agencies "is misguided," Roberts explains, "because agencies have no special competence in resolving statutory ambiguities. Courts do."

Roberts notes that today's decision does "not call into question prior cases that relied on the Chevron framework. The holdings of those cases that specific agency actions are lawful--including the Clean Air Act holding of Chevron itself--are still subject to statutory stare decisis despite our change in interpretive methodology."

The high court had consolidated two cases—Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Department of Commerce—and heard oral arguments in January of this year.

Howe reports, "The vote is 6-3 (although 6-2 in Loper-Bright because Jackson is recused). Kagan dissents, joined by Sotomayor and Jackson as it applies to Relentless, from which she is not recused."

Both cases concern the National Marine Fisheries Services (NMFS) interpretation of a federal fishing law (George W. Bush's Magnuson-Stevens Act) requiring government monitors to accompany certain fishing boats. At issue: Who would pay for the monitors—the agency requiring them or the fishermen themselves? The statute is unclear on that point, and using the Chevron deference, the lower court ruled that the NMFS had the right to require the fishermen to pay for the $700-a-day monitors on trips that often last several days.

After losing at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the plaintiffs argued before the Supreme Court that the lower court's decision “perceives ambiguity in statutory silence, where the logical explanation for the statutory silence is that Congress did not intend to grant the agency such a dangerous and uncabined authority.” They added, "Whether by clarifying Chevron or overruling it, this Court should grant review and reverse the clear agency overreach at issue here."

Most of us learned in school (I hope!) that the judicial branch interprets the law. It's explained in both Marbury v. Madison and Alexander Hamilton's Federalist 78. The Chevron doctrine takes some of that power to interpret from the courts and hands it to unelected bureaucrats. The word "deference" in Chevron means that the court defers rulemaking to "experts" in the administrative state.

#8  Well it must be said that a lot of the underlying problem is that some legislation is written poorly (maybe poorly on purpose). Also, there are laws where previous judicial decisions have made the law incomprehensible.

The Chevron decision, made in 1984, was on such a case where the issue was what was a 'source' of pollution for the purpose of requiring a lengthy govt review. Chevron argued it was only a 'source' if it was a new or rebuilt facility. An environmental org said it was a source even if Chevron did a minimal alteration of the source. The EPA (this was in 1984 under Reagan) argued for Chevron's position and the SCOTUS agreed.

With the apparent success of the effort to reduce the influence of God in our lives, we have come to rely on "our leaders" playing God or believing that what we (through them) are fulfilling the role we previously assigned to God — and doing it as well if not better! Thus, humanity has become conceited, believing that we have instrumentally had an effect on climate as reflected by what the influencers tell us humans have done in effecting "climate change," a matter that when examined closely is nothing more than the normal variability in the weather as well as short term changes in the climate that come and go with few existential consequences.

As a result, our so-called scientists believe that they have all the answers and thus feel free to attempt to modify weather and climate, having confidence in the efficacy or correctness of their actions. One major element of the current geoengineering effort is the removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the environment, especially as it exists in earth’s atmosphere. This is the conclusion that their contrived "scientific consensus" has decided is the right thing to do because CO2 as a "greenhouse gas" and thus supposedly warms the climate in a detrimental manner. Of course, they also believe that most CO2 arises from human activities instead of merely being a part of earth’s natural environmental processes. The percentage of the various gasses in our atmosphere is as follows: Nitrogen: 78.1%, Oxygen: 20.9%, Argon: 0.93%, Carbon Dioxide: 0.04%, Trace Gasses: the rest.

Wildcard candidate stirs up presidential election
[BBC] A snap election called after a deadly helicopter crash. A candidate promising a different approach both at home and abroad. And suddenly there’s an element of suspense and unpredictability in Iran, as voters go to the polls to choose a new president.

Elections in the Islamic Republic are tightly-controlled affairs - the candidates are all vetted by an influential committee of clerics before they can stand. And recently voter apathy has been widespread.

But this time there is a wild card: a reformist former heart surgeon and health minister, Massoud Pezeshkian, who has declared “immoral” the actions of Iran’s morality police, who enforce strict dress codes on women.

The rules on wearing the hijab are now being regularly flouted by women and Mr Pezeshkian, 69, has said: “If wearing certain clothes is a sin, the behaviour towards women and girls is 100 times a greater sin. Nowhere in religion is there any permission to confront someone because of their clothing.”

He has also promised to try to improve relations with the West and revive nuclear talks, in the hope of bringing an end to sanctions that have crippled Iran’s economy.

Mr Pezeshkian has been publicly backed by two former reformist presidents, Hassan Rouhani and Mohammad Khatami, and the former foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.

His campaign rallies attracted growing crowds in the run-up to polling day.

And on Thursday two candidates dropped out of the contest - in an apparent attempt by the clerical establishment to avoid splitting the conservative vote.

The most recent opinion polls showed Mr Pezeshkian ahead of Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, a former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards who is currently speaker of parliament, and Saeed Jalili, a hardline former nuclear negotiator.

The conservatives oppose engagement with the West and argue that Iran can succeed despite sanctions.

One other candidate remains in the race to replace Ebrahim Raisi - the hardliner who died on a foggy mountainside last month in a helicopter crash that also killed seven other people.

Turnout figures are seen as a key test of the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic.

They hit record lows in parliamentary elections in March and the last presidential election in 2021.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - who is the ultimate authority in Iran - has called for “maximum” turnout. And a solid core of regime supporters are sure to vote.

But many young and middle-class Iranians are deeply disillusioned and distrustful of any political process organised by the Islamic Republic, and now want an end to 45 years of clerical rule.

“There are lots of billboards in the streets asking people to ‘vote for a better tomorrow’, but we just don’t buy it any more,” a 20-year-old student in Tehran told me via text message. “Nobody wants to vote any more.”

Since the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, in morality police custody in 2022 - and the nationwide uprising it sparked - the gulf between Iran’s leaders and its people has widened dramatically.

A brutal crackdown on protesters hardened hatred of the regime, particularly among Generation Z.

Hopes pinned on reformists in the past have repeatedly been dashed. And, over the past few years, those wanting reform of the system have been increasingly marginalised.

Former president Hassan Rouhani wasn’t even allowed to stand in recent elections for an influential body, the Assembly of Experts, whose job it is to appoint the Supreme Leader.

IDF releases images showing Doctors Without Borders staffer in Islamic Jihad uniform

[IsraelTimes] The IDF releases images showing Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket expert Fadi al-Wadiya wearing the terror group’s uniform, after Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders, named him as a staffer but denied he was a terror operative.

Al-Wadiya was killed in a drone strike in Gaza City yesterday.

The organization then said in a post on X that al-Wadiya was killed while riding his bicycle to the MSF clinic where he worked.

The IDF said he was a prominent member of Islamic Jihad, involved in developing missiles for the terror group, as well as being an electronics and chemistry expert.

Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, says al-Wadiya worked for Islamic Jihad’s rocket manufacturing unit for more than 15 years.

He attaches three images showing al-Wadiya in Islamic Jihad uniform.

Adraee adds that in 2018, the same year that al-Wadiya joined Doctors Without Borders, the latter tried to leave Gaza for Iran to undergo training there with two other terror operatives.

Post-debate analysis: Biden has more than six handicaps
[American Thinker] The Trump-Biden presidential debate went so badly for Joe Biden that the Dems (and contributors) want a rebate. Rather than their usual Machiavellian machinations, they are openly considering ways to dump the reprobate who’s riddled with hate.

Conservatives tend to be magnanimous and compassionate, but our republic is at stake so sorrow for Biden is not forthcoming while he dares to remain in the ring.

Biden’s debate performance was so atrocious that it’s almost tempting to sympathize with his inflictions and infirmities — but not quite. Not quite because he is unrepentant. Not quite because he is so harmful to America, and because he is a threat to democracy and our national security.

He is so loathsome that commiseration for his handicaps is grudging. He’s essentially public enemy number one, who, frankly, doesn’t engender much sympathy, pathetic though he is.

Despite the grave topics discussed during the debate, and Trump’s stark reminders that America, under Biden, is "failing," there was a humorous moment related to Biden’s age and infirmity.

When asked by the CNN debate moderator about his age, Biden mentioned he has six handicaps. I can think of more, but I wonder if the six include these: learning disabilities, mobility disabilities, medical disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, visual impairments, and hearing impairments?

There are many more handicaps by which Biden is encumbered. And while compassionate conservatives don’t relish schadenfreude, Joe and Jill brought the attention upon themselves. If they weren’t so pigheaded, they’d step aside gracefully, yet grace is not in their constitution.

Planes flying from Lithuania to SE Asia mysteriously land in Iran
[Jerusalem Post] Iran smuggled two planes out of Lithuania, the country's public broadcaster announced on Thursday. The planes were due to fly to Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

The two Airbus A340s, leased by the Gambian company Macka Invest, were due to fly to South Asia in February but reportedly ended up in Iran. The aircraft's transponders—which enable them to be identified on air traffic control radars—were turned off upon entry into Iranian airspace. The aviation data site ch-aviation reported that one plane had landed at Mehrabad airport in Tehran and another at Konarak airport in Chabahar.

The incident was originally reported by vz.lt, a Lithuanian business news website.

A musicology lecturer, who is not Jewish but who believes Israel has a right to exist, Briceño did this because she “didn’t think university facilities are the place to fly flags to make statements about controversial geopolitical conflicts,” she told The Times of Israel this week.

But in Chile, which has one of the largest Palestinian communities outside the Middle East, this action had major consequences for Briceño’s career and the entire university. The flag removal helped trigger an ongoing campus occupation by anti-Israel activists seeking the dismissal of “Zionist professors,” as they call Briceño and another faculty member, Noemi Grinspun, who is Jewish.

Occurring amid an uptick in violent antisemitism in Chile and beyond, the standoff (Spanish-language article) at the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences (UMCE) stands out amid a global wave of anti-Israel campus protests for its targeting of individual lecturers, who feel abandoned by their university administration.

The campaign coincides with weeks-long harassment of Chilean Jews at their community centers, a development that recently prompted the heads of Chile’s Jewish schools to tell students not to walk outdoors in their school uniforms for fear this would invite attacks against them.

In a list of demands that the organizers of the May 29 occupation submitted to the administration, they wrote that the university should “disconnect” itself from “the Zionist lecturers Gladys Briceño and Noemi Grinspun.” They “inhabit and transgress on our university space, actively teaching hate speech in the classroom and through their social networks,” the organizers wrote.

The campaign against Grinspun and Briceño is part of a broader pattern of anti-Israel harassment that escalated on October 7 following the Hamas onslaught on southern Israel that saw some 1,200 people murdered and 251 taken hostage to Gaza. The public outcry against the ensuing war with Hamas has bled over to antisemitism on several notable occasions, according to Ariela Agosin, the president of the Jewish Community of Chile organization, which represents the country’s 20,000-odd Jews.

Part of the problem, many Chilean Jews believe, is that protesters feel emboldened by the government led by Gabriel Boric, a far-left politician who became president of Chile in 2021.

In 2019, he spurned a Rosh Hashanah gift, a small pot of honey, that the Jewish Community of Chile had sent lawmakers.

“I appreciate the gesture but they could start by asking Israel to return the illegally occupied Palestinian territory,” Boric wrote on X (then Twitter) about Chilean Jews, many of whom cited this post as proof that he is antisemitic. Boric is the only Chilean president who has declined to meet with representatives of Chilean Jews, Agosin said.

His government has recalled its ambassador to Israel, as have several other Latin American countries after October 7.

Swedish court indicts teen for going to Israeli embassy with semi-automatic weapon

A Swedish court on Thursday found a 15-year-old boy guilty of possession of a semi-automatic weapon while heading to the Israeli embassy in Stockholm in a taxi. The conviction came less than a month after Sweden’s intelligence agency accused Iran of recruiting gang members to attack Israeli interests in the Scandinavian country.

The boy was arrested on May 16 when police stopped a taxi in the Tyreso suburb south of Stockholm, en route to the Israeli embassy in the capital. He was carrying the gun in his jacket.

The following night, a 14-year-old boy was arrested after a shooting near the Israeli embassy. That investigation is still underway.

The 15-year-old, who was sentenced to 11 months of juvenile supervision, told the Nacka district court he had been ordered to pick up an item in Tyreso for delivery, according to the verdict obtained by AFP. He said he thought he would collect drugs and only discovered it would be a gun on the way to pick up the item.
Not exactly an innocent, then.
He said he found out he was going to the Israeli embassy when he got in the taxi, which a woman had ordered for him. fThe taxi driver confirmed that a woman, whose identity has not been established, gave the driver the embassy address. The teen told the court he felt tricked, but still went ahead with the assignment.

Prosecutors presented evidence from the boy’s smartphone showing that he had looked up the route to the embassy, and the court ruled the youth “knew that the trip was going to the embassy even if he was unable to give the taxi driver an address.”

The fact that the weapon was discovered en route to the embassy meant “the weapon typically could be feared to be used criminally,” the court said.

However, the ruling emphasized that there was “no investigation in the case about what was actually planned to happen” that night. It was not known why the police stopped the taxi.

Sweden’s intelligence agency, Sapo, on May 30 accused Iran of recruiting gang members in Sweden, some of them children, as proxies to commit “acts of violence against other states, groups or people in Sweden that it considers a threat.”

It cited in particular “Israeli and Jewish interests, targets and operations in Sweden.”

According to Sapo, Iran has conducted “security-threatening activities in and against Sweden for several years.”

On January 31, police found a live grenade in the grounds of the Israeli compound.

Sweden has seen a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents since the October 7 Hamas onslaught, which saw terrorists infiltrate Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping 251.

A total of 110 complaints were registered by police between October 7 and December 31, according to the report by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention. In 2022, the figure was 24.

Anti-Israel sentiments were also prominent when the Scandinavian country hosted the Eurovision song competition last month, as protesters demonstrated against Israeli contestant Eden Golan, who was booed during her performances.

Ultra-Orthodox protesters blocked a main traffic junction for several hours on Thursday at a demonstration against proposals to draft them into the military. The demonstrators scuffled with police, who arrested at least 32 participants.

Police said some protesters blocking Route 4 at the Coca-Cola Junction in Bnei Brak called them “Nazis” and lay under police vehicles to block them.

Police were seen using mounted officers in attempts to clear the road during rush hour. After some three hours police announced that the road was finally open.

Some protesters called for violence, while others vowed to go to jail or die instead of enlisting.

Demonstrators carried signs reading: “All Haredi Jews are forbidden from enlisting, even those who are not yeshiva students.”

The sign was referring to a talking point often made in public discourse that many of the ultra-Orthodox men who receive exemptions on account of their status as yeshiva students do not actually study at yeshivas.

The demonstrators belonged to the extremist Jerusalem Faction, which numbers some 60,000 members and regularly demonstrates against the enlistment of yeshiva students.

Many ultra-Orthodox Jews believe that military service is incompatible with their way of life and fear that those who do enlist will be secularized.

The protest was a response to the High Court of Justice’s landmark ruling on Tuesday that ordered the Israel Defense Forces to begin conscripting ultra-Orthodox men and halt funding to yeshivas that do not comply.

Trump Indicted For Murdering Elderly Man On CNN
[Bee] LAS VEGAS — Tonight's presidential debate ended abruptly when Donald Trump was served with papers notifying him that he had been indicted for the murder of an elderly man on CNN.

"Hey, I didn't do anything!" Trump told authorities. "He was like that when I got here!"

Trump, who had planned to debate President Joe Biden, argued that the strange old man keeled over all on his own.

"Yeah, yeah," said Officer Nolan of the LVPD. "Why don't we talk about this downtown."

At publishing time, Trump had been indicted again for the murder of the Democratic Party.

The men can be seen standing on top of a sinking submersible.

Dramatic footage shows how drug smugglers aboard a narco submarine headed for Spain's southern coast were rescued on Wednesday from the sinking vessel before getting arrested in the middle of the Atlantic.

In a video released by the Spanish civil guard and the Spain's Tax Agency, four men, who are Colombian nationals, can be seen in life vests standing on top of a sinking submersible as a customs surveillance ship approaches the vessel.

Another clip shows the sub's crew floating in the sea as waves crash against them, alongside black barrels - which the crew appear to have held on to to stay afloat.

The men can then be seen climbing up a ladder onto the ship, before another video shows them getting arrested once they get onboard. The drug smugglers are then seen lying face down while they are handcuffed civil guards.

The blue vessel had been navigating the waters 280 miles west of the coast of Cadiz when its crew spotted a surveillance ship.

According to the Tax Agency, the men came to the surface and opened the submarine's valves, allowing the vessel to fill with water and sink to the bottom of the sea, along with its precious cargo.

Police believe the vessel was carrying a large shipment of cocaine given its similarity to previously-seized narco submarines.

The operation, which was jointly carried out by the Spanish civil guard, the national police and the Tax Agency, started on Monday when authorities received a tip from the US's Drug Enforcement Agency.

The DEA had reportedly detected a potential drop off between an unknown vessel and a semi-submersible.

The 20-meter blue submarine was eventually spotted off the coast of Cadiz, which authorities successfully intercepted.

It so happens that the customs surveillance ship was already loaded with 900 kilograms of seized cocaine following an operation just a few days prior.

The surveillance ship on Saturday had spotted a speedboat carrying a shipment of cocaine near the Canary Islands after having had received a tip from the British National Crime Agency and the DEA.

9000 kg of cocaine were dumped into the ocean by the seafaring criminals as the civil guard attempted to catch the drug mules during what was reported to have been a six-hour-long chase, according to Canarias7.

While the speedboat managed to escape and reach the island of La Palma, authorities discovered the abandoned boat on Tazacorte beach on the island the following day. Police said the boat corresponded with the one chased the day prior.

New Jersey mother's chilling reason for drowning her daughters, ages 1 and 3
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Naomi Elkins, 27, was arrested at her home in the predominantly Orthodox Jewish community of Lakewood Tuesday night and was charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon and other offenses relating to the deaths of her two children, ages just 1 and 3.

She told authorities who rushed to the scene that she felt she 'needed to kill the children for religious purposes' after they returned home from Giggles Daycare - where she worked and where the children attended, according to arrest documents obtained by the New York Post.

She is said to have told the officers she realized she had done something wrong, and called Hatzolah Medical Services - a Jewish volunteer ambulance program - telling dispatchers there she had hurt her children.

As cops questioned Elkins in the aftermath, she reportedly noted she previously struggled with bad feelings when her husband left on a business trip on May 24.

She said she dropped her kids off at the daycare that day, and spent the night praying, according to 6ABC.

Oklahoma superintendent orders all schools must teach the Bible and have a copy in every classroom
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The boss of Oklahoma public schools has ordered teachers to incorporate the Bible into lessons and keep a copy of the holy book in every classroom.

Republican State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters made the decree on Thursday.

'Effective immediately, all Oklahoma schools are required to incorporate the Bible, which includes the Ten Commandments, as an instructional support into the curriculum across specified grade levels, e.g. grades 5 through 12,' Walters said.

Adherence to the mandate is compulsory and 'immediate and strict compliance is expected.'

'The Bible is an indispensable historical and cultural touchstone,' Walters said. 'Without basic knowledge of it, Oklahoma students are unable to properly contextualize the foundation of our nation which is why Oklahoma educational standards provide for its instruction.'

Oklahoma law already explicitly allows Bibles in the classroom and lets teachers use them in instruction, said Phil Bacharach, a spokesman for state Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

It's not clear if Walters has the authority to mandate that schools teach it and critics have spoken out against the order.

The head of the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations slammed the directive as a clear violation of the Constitution's Establishment Clause, which prohibits the government from 'establishing' a religion.

'We adamantly oppose any requirements that religion be forcefully taught or required as a part of lesson plans in public schools, in Oklahoma, or anywhere else in the country,' Adam Soltani said.

Rachel Laser, president and CEO of Americans United for Separation of Church and State: 'Public schools are not Sunday schools.

'This is textbook Christian Nationalism: Walters is abusing the power of his public office to impose his religious beliefs on everyone else´s children. Not on our watch.'

Walgreens will shut 'significant' number of 8,700 US stores
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Walgreens is to set to close a 'significant' number of its 8,700 US stores, it said Thursday.

The news came as the company - which also operates under the Duane Reade banner - cut its profit forecast for fiscal year 2024 as shoppers continue to cut spending its stores.

Harvard dean threatens faculty who protest school's mistreatment of Jews
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] "Snitches get stitches" is a threat typically made by adolescents to avoid punishment by intimidating those who might expose their misdeeds. Yet it seems Harvard is a glorified junior high these days, with Lawrence Bobo, its dean of social sciences, threatening faculty who publicly criticize the university for its mistreatment of Jewish students.

Writing in the Crimson, Bobo argued that it is "outside the bounds of acceptable professional conduct for a faculty member to excoriate University leadership, faculty, staff, or students with the intent to arouse external intervention into University business."
You can always tell a Hahvahd Man but, they say, you can’t tell him much. No insult intended to Rantburg’s own Harvard men, who are of course very much out of the common way.
Faculty who appeal to external actors to reverse gross injustices at Harvard may not get literal stitches, but Bobo could deny them tenure or lower their pay. His piece has not been made official Harvard policy, but more senior administrators have not repudiated his interpretation of "acceptable professional conduct," and his discretion to punish snitches remains intact.

Bobo’s hostility to "external intervention" is reminiscent of something more menacing than junior high taunts about snitches. It echoes George Wallace’s complaints about "outside agitators." The segregationist governor of Alabama claimed in a 1964 letter that efforts by him and other Southern leaders to improve the condition of the "Negro citizen" were being undermined by "the national news media and the propaganda distributed by various organizations." If only outside agitators would avoid stirring up trouble, both "white and colored" could continue to live in "peace and equanimity."

Bobo similarly expresses a preference for managing Harvard’s problems through "internal discussion on key policy matters," threatening to sanction "behaviors that plainly incite external actors — be it the media, alumni, donors, federal agencies, or the government — to intervene in Harvard’s affairs." It’s as if Bobo were saying that Harvard’s Jews could be living in "peace and equanimity" without outside agitators in the media and government stirring up trouble.

Bobo and other Harvard leaders are right to fear outside intervention. Despite its more than $50 billion endowment, Harvard is a financial house of cards built on government subsidy and donor largesse. Harvard’s operating budget last year was $5.9 billion, of which about $650 million came from federal research grants, $55 million came from government student aid and loans, and another $500 million came from the "current use" gifts of donors

Feds ID 400 migrants smuggled into US by ISIS-affiliated network —with the whereabouts of 50 unknown
[NYPOST] The Department of Homeland Security has identified over 400 migrants colonists who were brought to the US from Central Asia and other places by an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling network — and the whereabouts of more than 50 of them are unknown, according to an unsettling report.

More than 150 of the migrants colonists have been arrested, but the locations of another 50 remain unknown, three US officials told NBC News, adding that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is looking to arrest those involved on immigration charges.

"In this case, it was the information that suggested a potential tie to ISIS because of some of the individuals involved in [smuggling migrants colonists to the border] that led us to want to take extra care," a senior Biden administration official told the outlet, "and out of an abundance of caution make sure that we exercised our authority in the most expansive and appropriate way to mitigate risk because of this potential connection being made."

The official noted that since ICE started arresting migrants colonists brought into the US by the smuggling group several months ago, no information has tied them to any threats to the US.

Many of the over 400 migrants colonists involved had crossed the southern border and were released into the country by Customs and Border Protection because they were not on the government’s terrorism watchlist, the three anonymous officials said.

While the agency did not have information raising concerns at the time the migrants colonists entered the country, recent terrorist attacks in Russia have caused heightened concern over ISIS and its offshoot ISIS-K.

As a result, the Department of Homeland Security has been monitoring migrants colonists coming from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Russia — all places ISIS-K has been observed.

One of those hotbed locations, Tajikistan, had over 1,500 migrants colonists come into the US between October 2020 and May 2024, according to leaked border data obtained by The Post.

It’s unknown how many of the Tajik migrants colonists were released into the US, but the vast majority of migrants colonists caught at the border claim asylum and are allowed to stay while they await a court hearing.

ISIS-K was responsible for a massive attack on a concert hall in Moscow — carried out by citizens of Tajikistan — that killed 145 people and maimed hundreds more on March 22.

"The fact that the whereabouts were unknown is clearly alarming," former FBI counterterrorism section chief Christopher O’Leary told NBC.

According to O’Leary, ICE is likely looking to arrest these people even if there’s no evidence they are plotting a terrorist attack.

"I believe the [U.S.] is scrambling to locate these individuals, and using the immigration charges is not uncommon," O’Leary said. "They are in violation of that law. And if you need to take somebody off the street, that’s a good approach to do it."

Federal law enforcement agencies are "not panicking" about the group of people, but they have been identified as "subjects of concern," and are prioritizing them for arrest out an an abundance of caution, two of the officials noted.

Some of the 150 migrants colonists who were arrested have already been deported out of the country, the officials added.

While some of those detained or deported have been charged with immigration violations, none have been charged with terrorism-related offenses.

Florida man becomes 6th charged with antisemitic mob beating of Jewish man in Times Square
[NYPOST] A Florida man became the sixth attacker indicted in the brutal caught-on-camera beating of a Jewish man in Times Square in 2021, Manhattan prosecutors said Thursday.

Salem Seleiman, 28, was arrested on a warrant on May 10 — nearly three years after he allegedly joined the hateful mob who pummeled victim Joseph Borgen during festivities between Israel and Paleostinian supporters in Midtown.

Seleiman was part of a pack of men that hurled antisemitic slurs like "dirty Jew," "filthy Jew" and "f—k Israel" at Borgen, who was wearing a yarmulke, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

The 29-year-old victim, who had been attending a pro-Israel rally when he was attacked May 20, 2021, was thrown to the ground, punched, hit with a crutch and pepper-sprayed — with footage of the vicious beating later going viral on social media.

As good Samaritans tried to intervene, Seleiman pretended to offer to help Borgen — only to then unload a kick in his face as he lay on the ground, prosecutors said.

The three soldiers killed are Sgt. William Jerome Rivers of Carrollton, Georgia; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders of Waycross, Georgia; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett of Savannah, Georgia. All three were assigned to the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade, Fort Moore, Georgia.

The attack occurred in the early morning at the logistics support base located at Tower 22 of the Jordanian Defense Network. Approximately 350 U.S. Army and Air Force personnel are deployed to the base. The three soldiers were killed when a one-way uncrewed aerial system impacted their container housing units.

A grand jury indicted former schools police Chief Pete Arredondo and former officer Adrian Gonzales on multiple counts of felony child endangerment, per reporting from the Uvalde Leader-News and the San Antonio Express-News.

The indictments would make Arredondo and Gonzales the first officers to face criminal charges in one of the deadliest shootings in U.S. history.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety for comment.

A scathing report by Texas lawmakers that examined the police response described Gonzales as one of the first officers to enter the building after the shooting began.

The indictments come more than two years after an 18-year-old gunman opened fire in a fourth grade classroom, where he remained for over an hour before officers confronted and killed him.

In total, nearly 400 law enforcement officers responded to Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022, some waiting in the hallway outside the classroom, even as the gunman could be heard firing an AR-15-style rifle inside.

Arredondo lost his job three months later. Several officers involved were eventually fired, and separate investigations by the Department of Justice and state lawmakers faulted law enforcement with botching their response to the massacre.

The DOJ released a 600-page report earlier this year that cataloged what it described as "cascading failures" in training, communication, leadership and technology problems that day.

[NYPOST] A migrant from Ecuador who entered the US illegally is accused of suffocating a 21-year-old Syracuse woman on her birthday and then burying her body in a shallow grave in an upstate New York park, authorities said.

Jhon Moises Chacaguasay-Ilbis, 21, is charged with killing Joselyn Jhoana Toaquiza, a fellow Ecuadorian, after arranging to meet the victim for her birthday at his Airbnb in Syracuse on June 18, the Post-Standard reported.The pair, who are believed to have attended elementary school together in Ecuador, were captured on surveillance cameras entering the rental property just before 4:30 pm., cops said.

Just hours later, Chacaguasay-Ilbis allegedly re-emerged with a limp Toaquiza draped across his back — with her arms and legs wrapped around him — before carrying her body to a park opposite the Airbnb.

He allegedly buried her in the shallow grave and then hightailed it on a Greyhound bus back to his residence in Rockland County’s Spring Valley, according to cops.

Toaquiza’s remains weren’t discovered until Saturday after her family reported her missing.

The accused killer was slapped with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse charges after eventually turning himself in to cops late Tuesday.

He was arraigned Thursday in Syracuse City Court, where he claimed, via a Spanish interpreter, that he had zero recollection of the alleged slaying because he was too drunk.

Chacaguasay-Ilbis was picked up by US Border Patrol agents in January 2023 after illegally crossing the border in El Paso, Texas, a Homeland Security source told The Post.

Because there wasn’t enough space to hold him, he was released into the US with a tracking device.

The victim’s relatives said she had immigrated to the US last year. It wasn’t immediately clear, though, what the young woman’s immigration status was.

U.S. authorities are working with their Mexican counterparts to locate 17-year-old Jessica Garcia Rojo and her mother 56-year-old Juana Marcela Rojo who went missing shortly after crossing from Laredo, Texas into Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the FBI revealed. Garcia Rojo was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She and her mother have family ties to Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey.

The women are believed to have been traveling to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, in a white Dodge Caravan with New Mexico license plates, when they went missing shortly before 9 p.m. on May 15. Relatives reported them missing on May 28.

Russia Teases ‘Big Treaty' with Iran
