[IsraelTimes] With Labour predicted to become the biggest party in the UK parliament, here are the contenders for the most prominent ministerial positions.
Deputy Prime Minister: Angela Rayner
Rayner, 44, is an outlier in a country long dominated by a ruling class disproportionately educated at private schools and Oxford and Cambridge universities.
She grew up in social housing in northern England, left school without a degree and became a single mother at 16.
A trade unionist before being elected to parliament in 2015, she was elected as Labour’s number two in 2020.
Her left-wing background and straight-talking style — complete with strong northern accent — contrasts with Starmer’s more staid public persona.
"He smooths off my rough edges. I bring him out of his shell," she has famously said of their partnership.
As well as being deputy prime minister — filling in for Starmer at weekly parliamentary questions when he is unable to attend — Rayner would be responsible for housing policy and tackling regional inequalities.
Finance: Rachel Reeves
The former Bank of England economist is in line to become the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer, living next door to Starmer at 11 Downing Street.
Reeves, 45, has called that prospect shattering "the last glass ceiling in politics".
A central figure in Labour efforts over the last four years to regain the electorate’s trust on economic issues, she insists it is now "the natural party of British business".
Using her reputation for economic competence, Londoner Reeves, whose younger sister is also an MP, has pledged "iron discipline" on public finances.
The former child chess champion, an MP since 2010, has vowed to be both "pro-worker" and "pro-business" in her role overseeing the public purse.
Foreign affairs: David Lammy
Lammy, 51, a black politician descended from slaves, has honed his vision for UK diplomacy with dozens of foreign trips in the past two years.
He has argued that the foreign ministry needs to "rediscover the art of grand strategy" in the post-Brexit era.
Lammy, an MP since the age of 27 in 2000, is likely to steer Britannia towards closer EU ties — no easy task with both Brussels and Eurosceptic Britons reticent.
He will also likely face pressure from Labour’s left flank over issues including its policy towards Israel and its war against Hamas ..a regional Iranian catspaw,... in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... A friend of former US President Barack Obama If you like your coverage you can keep it... , Lammy may also have to deal with the possible White House return of Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and whatever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... He once described Trump as a "neo-Nazi ...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both.... sympathising sociopath" and "profound threat to the international order".
Home Affairs: Yvette Cooper
Cooper’s decades of political experience will undoubtedly be sorely tested heading the Home Office — Britannia’s interior ministry — a notoriously hard government department to succeed in.
An MP since the late 1990s and a minister in the 2000s, Cooper, 55, has been Labour’s home affairs spokesperson over two stints during its 14 years in opposition.
A candidate to be party leader in 2015, plaudits credit her grasp of policy and details as well as stellar communication skills.
Immigration — a major election campaign issue and potential weak point for Labour — will likely dominate much of the public discussion around her brief.
Health: Wes Streeting
A fresh-faced Labour centrist, Streeting has been one of the most visible Labour figures during the election campaign.
Hailed as one of its best communicators, the 41-year-old from a working-class background in east London is tipped as a potential future leader.
But first he will have to prove himself in one of the toughest jobs in UK government, charged with reversing the decline in the country’s cherished but ailing National Health Service (NHS).
Weighed down by years of austerity under the Conservatives and still struggling to recover from the pandemic, Streeting — a cancer survivor — will rely in part on his own experience of the system.
Defence: John Healey
Party veteran Healey is set to become defense secretary as the policy area gains importance given the war in Ukraine and rising global insecurity.
The 64-year-old, who first became an MP in 1997 when Tony Blair won power for Labour, held a series of government posts during the party’s 13-year spell in charge.
Labour has promised to increase military spending to 2.5 percent of GDP (from 2.3 percent this year) "as soon as" economic conditions allow.

[FoxNews] Duke Medical School claims it is "White supremacy culture" to expect people of color to be on time in a strategic plan for creating an "Anti-Racist Workforce."
The medical school said its goal is to "catalyze anti-racist practice through education," in a 2021 plan titled "Dismantling Racism and Advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the School of Medicine." The guide – praised by the school's dean – called out what it deemed "White supremacy culture," with its purported nitpicking of being on time, dress code, speech and work style. It also contains a series of negative terminology vis-à-vis White culture.
"White supremacy culture is the idea (ideology) that White people and the ideas, thoughts, beliefs, and actions of white people are superior to People of Color and their ideas, thoughts, beliefs and actions," the document stated.
The document stated that America is rigged for the interests of White people, who get privileges, i.e. the "unquestioned and unearned set of advantages, entitlements, benefits and choices bestowed on people solely because they are White."

When you can't meet the standards of excellence, change them, and pretend for a while that nothing changes the product. Brilliant, it just defines another trusted source, Duke Medical School graduates, that no longer are worthy of it.

U.S. officials say Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of... i nationals will be offered temporary protected status (TPS) for another 18 months in a move that a former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director is calling an "extreme risk for this country’s security and safety."
The announcement on Monday by the Department of Homeland Security — which means that Yemeni nationals living in the U.S. will be further protected from deportation and can apply for work permits — comes as Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him... rebels continue to destabilize the Middle Eastern country.
"Yemen is a special interest alien country. We got to be careful of who we are allowing into the country because they have terrorist ties," Tom Homan, a former acting director of ICE, told Fox News Digital. "We have already shown our current vetting is not as sufficient to keep us out of harm’s way, because most people with terrorist ties, gunnies in this world — you can’t find them in any database.
"We don’t know who most gunnies [are], so I think it’s an extreme risk for this country’s security and safety," he added.
[PM] President Joe Biden has repeatedly touted his record on jobs creation in America, but what he hasn't told you is that 70,000 of the 206,000 jobs recently added were government jobs. On Friday, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics released its jobs report for the month of June, revealing that although 206,000 new jobs were added, the unemployment rate still sat at 4.1 percent, .5 percent higher than June 2023. A sizable portion of those positions were in the public sector, which does little to improve the overall economic situation for ordinary Americans. IIUC April, May were revised down by 110,000
Biden said in a statement that "With today’s report that 206,000 jobs were created last month, a record 15.7 million jobs have been created during my Administration. We have more work to do, but wages are growing faster than prices and more Americans are joining the workforce, with the highest share of working-age Americans in the workforce in over 20 years. That’s real progress for hardworking families who have the dignity and respect that comes with earning a paycheck and putting food on the table."
A society where everyone works for the government seems a bit commie to me. https://t.co/7AaG22cq3b
Among those who criticized the report was former Home Depot CEO an Chrysler chairman Bob Nardelli. He called the findings "deceptively correct," and urged people to look beyond the numbers provided by the Biden administration.
"The second-largest employer last year was the government, and they're back on the same track again this year," Nardelli said during an appearance on Fox News' Maria Bartiromo's Wall Street. "There is no GDP generated by government jobs." He noted that the report showed there were 200,000 fewer manufacturing jobs.
Nardelli went on to slam the government for allowing inflation to rise, explaining that like "carbon monoxide," it is "the silent killer" responsible for "creating job problems in the quality of life." He also called out Washington's "reckless spending," claiming that, "it's causing these problems in our economy, it's stressing the fault lines in our economy, and whoever gets in that white House next year is going to be hit with a wrecking ball to try and pull this back."
One of the policies Nardelli took aim at was the recently announced overtime protection extension, which will ensure over 1 million salaried workers making less than the median individual salary per year, or about $43,300 get paid for work they do outside of their scheduled hours. If a worker earns $844 per week they will be eligible for overtime pay. It was criticized as a "one-size-fits-all" approach by industry groups while others said these are rules Congress, not federal agencies, should be making.
"This is not equitable in that if you have a lower skilled job, why are they going to get paid more than someone with higher skills?" Nardelli said. "Because they're both working a couple of hours of overtime? So again, I'm not sure this is equitable, and I'm not sure this is an appropriate way to increase the standard of living for our families today. I think there are other things we should be doing."

After the IDF initiated a reinvasion of Gaza City, the IDF reported on Tuesday morning that it had eliminated dozens of terrorists in the area.
Israeli forces also reportedly found numerous weapons in the area.
The reinvasion of Gaza City followed a reinvasion of Shejaia, a neighborhood in the eastern portion of the city.
In Shejaia, the IDF also eliminated numerous terrorists and located weapons, including sniper gear, RPGs, grenades, and AK-47 assault rifles, during both above and below-ground operational activity, the military added.
Subterranean terror infrastructure in the vicinity was also demolished by Israeli troops.
MORE OPERATION ACTIVITY IN RAFAH
To the south, in Rafah, IDF soldiers continued operational activity, killing dozens of additional terrorists in both close-quarters combat and via Israel Air Force airstrikes, the military added.
Throughout Gaza, over the past day, the IAF struck numerous targets, including subterranean shafts and other terror structures.

[JustTheNews] The funding for the program has increased from $363.8 million in fiscal year 2023 to $650 million in fiscal year 2024. Now, city officials and politicians are asking it be funded at as much as $3 billion.
The city of Atlanta received $4.85 million in funding in the 2023, the first year of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Shelter and Services Program. In 2024, the city will get $10.89 million in the second year with another round of funding later in the year to be announced.
FEMA's Shelter and Services Program is another indicator of the growing impact of the arrival of migrants in the U.S.
The program provides grants to communities for the expenses they will incur for handling migrants. There were 14 states, including Washington D.C., that received the first tranche of money in fiscal year 2024.

Since Biden took office in January 2021, about 12 million illegal border crossings have been documented, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data and "gotaway" data obtained from border agents by The Center Square. Gotaways is the official CBP term to describe those who illegally crossed the border and were not apprehended. CBP does not publicly release "gotaway" data.
In November 2023, the United States Conference of Mayors sent a letter to Congress asking that the funding for the program be set at a minimum of $1.3 billion.
In March, Congresswoman Lori Trahan, D-Mass., and Congresswoman Diana DeGette, D-Co., requested $3 billion in funding for the Shelter and Services Program.
[Jpost] As the war continues into a less intense phase it is worth looking back at the extent of Hamas illegal use of UN facilities, including schools, because it appears systematic and on a large scale.
On Monday, July 8, the IDF said that it had begun an operation in Gaza City targeting terrorists and terrorist infrastructure. UNRWA's headquarters was among the sites targeted. Hamas and other terrorist groups have systematically used UN facilities throughout the war in Gaza. They have hidden in them and used tunnels underneath them, and their armed terrorists have been present at schools, shelters, warehouses, and other UN sites.
It will take time for the full details of how Hamas embedded inside UN institutions to come to light. However, news reports and IDF statements provide a lot of details on recent incidents. It is important to understand this in context.
Hamas has always exploited international organizations and the UN in Gaza. It does this in many ways. It knows that UN compounds and schools are sites that would normally be protected during a war. Therefore, it appears that Hamas views these areas as a priority and has tried to use areas near them, or underneath these sites, as command and control nodes.
After October 7 Israel carried out an intense aerial campaign in Gaza, striking Hamas and other terrorist groups. Israel’s ground operations began on October 27. Then, in February,
…pushed hard by the Biden administration to stop being mean to the poor Gazans…
the ground operations were much reduced in intensity and the IDF withdrew from most of Gaza by April.
This enabled Hamas to return to many areas. It returned in force to Shifa Hospital, for instance, overrunning the hospital with hundreds of terrorists. It also began to operate from within UN schools and sites that had become shelters or even aid distribution warehouses.
At the UNRWA headquarters, it appears that Hamas even took advantage of the rebuilding of the site. Ynet reported that “intelligence reveals that Hamas command and control centers, including UNRWA headquarters, have been rebuilt since December, when forces last operated in parts of the city.” In February, the IDF found a Hamas data center underneath UNRWA's headquarters in Rimal.
Hamas knows that when it hides at schools, any airstrike on the site can be used for propaganda.
On July 6 for example, the BBC reported that “at least 16 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a UN-run school in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials have said. Dozens more have been injured.”
The IDF said in response that it had struck a UN-run school in Nuseirat. “Earlier today, based on the IDF’s and the Israel Securities Authority’s (ISA) intelligence, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) struck several terrorists operating in structures located in the area of UNRWA’s Al-Jaouni school in the central Gaza Strip,” the IDF said.
Hamas knows that in this case, it is likely that it may win the propaganda war because most reports will state that the IDF struck a “school” rather than a Hamas site.
EXAMPLES OF HAMAS USING UN SITES
Let’s look at two months of examples of how Hamas has used UN facilities in Gaza and exploited the UN for cover.
On July 8, the IDF said that it found UNRWA uniforms during searches that it conducted in northern Gaza’s Shejaia.
On July 6, the IDF struck terrorists at the Al-Jaouni school in central Gaza and on July 4, the IDF also said that it “struck terrorists who operated from UNRWA schools in the area of Gaza City – the Alqahirah school in Al-Furqan and the Musa School in Daraj Tuffah.”
In June, the IDF also found that Hamas was using numerous UN facilities. On June 30, the IDF said that a tunnel was found near a UNRWA school. “As part of operational searches of civilian structures converted into terrorist infrastructure, the soldiers raided a UN school that the terrorists of the Shejaia Battalion were using as a hideout and a warehouse,” it stated.
Two days earlier, the IDF said that it targeted “dozens of terrorists who were hiding in UNRWA schools and facilities.”In early June, more terrorists were found at UN sites. On June 7, the IDF said that terrorists were identified at a UNRWA school in Nuseirat the previous day.
Hamas was operating a compound that the IDF said was “embedded” inside the UNRWA school in Nuseirat.Furthermore, the IAF also “targeted Hamas terrorists operating from a container inside the grounds of the Asmaa UNRWA school in Shati.”
Then, on June 4, the IDF also said that it “struck a Hamas compound embedded inside UNRWA’s Abu al-Hilu school in El-Bureij, located in the central Gaza Strip, from which Hamas terrorists operated and planned numerous attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops operating in Gaza.”
Further, in May, the IDF found terrorists in UN facilities. In one case on May 30, the IDF said that a terrorist fired an anti-tank missile from a UNRWA school in Rafah.
“In response to an anti-tank missile fired from a UNRWA school toward IDF troops, the 12th Brigade combat team operated in the school complex,” the army proclaimed.
On May 22, the IAF targeted “a compound located inside a UNRWA school where Hamas terrorists, including an anti-tank missile operative and a Nukhba terrorist, were operating,” the IDF said.
In another incident on May 14, the IDF declared that it carried out a precision strike “on a central Hamas war room commander embedded inside a UNRWA school in the area of Nuseirat. The war room was used by terrorist operatives in Hamas’s military wing. The strike was carried out using precise munitions in order to minimize harm to uninvolved civilians.”
This reflects two months of incidents of Hamas hiding in UN facilities, in which the IDF has released statements. These clearly represent only the tip of the iceberg.
Separately, the IDF revealed footage on July 5 showing Hamas attacking civilians who sought “to enter a warehouse where humanitarian aid was stored.”
In another incident, the IDF eliminated Fadi Muhammad Al-Wadiya, a terrorist in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.
Oddly, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), more commonly known as Doctors Without Borders, said that he was a colleague. “Al-Wadiya was executed by an Israeli strike. No proof of any wrongdoing on his part has been shared with MSF,” the group claimed.
In many cases, the UN does not put out statements about how and why Hamas seems to use so many of its sites in Gaza, including numerous schools.
Instead, what UNRWA said on July 8 in a social media post was that “the level of destruction across the Gaza Strip is unfathomable. Houses, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure have been turned to rubble. Around 190 UNRWA facilities have been impacted. At least 520 displaced people sheltering in our buildings have been killed.”
As the war continues into a less intense phase, it is worth looking back at the extent of Hamas’s illegal use of UN facilities, including schools, because its actions in this regard appear to be systematic and on a large scale.

[Declassified with Judy Kelly] Remember when the media and class of "legal experts" swooned over Jack Smith?
Immediately after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith as special counsel to take over the Department of Justice’s existing investigations into Donald Trump, news outlets eagerly touted Smith’s credentials. "He’s a hardworking, smart person who knows how to move cases. That’s who he is: He comes in and gets things done," one former DOJ colleague told the New York Times in November 2022.
Another ex-colleague described Smith as "a brilliant independent thinker and a gutsy lawyer." A prosecutor on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team told CNN that Smith "understands the courtroom. He understands how to try a case. He knows how to prove a case."
Regime lapdog Andrew Weissmann, in response to Smith’s January 6-related indictment of Trump, said in August 2023 that the case indicated Smith "wants to get to trial quickly."
But Weissman’s doomsday predictions about the fate of Donald Trump once again didn’t materialize into reality. Nearly one year later, Smith’s two federal indictments against Trump—one for J6 and one for allegedly hoarding national defense files at Mar-a-Lago—are nowhere close to going to trial.
A series of legal stumbles, bad blood between Smith’s prosecutors and Judge Aileen Cannon in the documents case in Florida, and unfavorable Supreme Court decisions imperil not just Smith’s cases but his media-manufactured reputation as a prosecutorial ace. AND his constitutional appointment status - See Thomas's concurring opinion in the immunity case
It has cost Trump 10's of Millions defending himself so far.
Now, Imagine a common citizen or mom & pop store facing the Federal DOJ.
How can they expect to get a fair shake without going bankrupt?
When will we see the LAWFARE Abusers Indicted, put on trial, personally sued (their $$$, not taxpayers) and jailed ?
Because surely they must understand what goes around, comes around. Now the same process can be used and abused by others against LSD's and the DC Swampers also in the future?

Sad thing is Trump should be able to sue the Government for his legal expenses but then we all pay. Jack Smith and company are playing with our money on their little legal vengeance game and they should be the ones to pay, somehow.

[MAIL] France's radical left-wing coalition has vowed to bring in a 90 per cent tax rate on the rich following their shock election triumph on Sunday.
In a result that caught political commentators by surprise, the New Popular Front (NPF) emerged as the biggest party in the second round of the elections which ended in a deadlock, gaining 182 seats ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's centrist Ensemble party, on 168.
Marine Le Pen's populist right National Rally (RN), which won the first round of elections on June 30, performed poorly in the second round and only obtained 143 seats.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), who served as the Platform Committee Chair, said in a statement, "The job of the chair is to orchestrate the platform committee meeting, and I am so proud the delegates passed Donald J. Trump’s platform."
Trump Campaign Senior Advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said the platform showcases Trump’s MAGA agenda "in a way that is concise and digestible for every voter."

Someone needs to ask Speaker Johnson if that vetoed bill will end up on Trump’s desk in 2025? This reminds me of the ‘kill obamacare’ and ‘immigration’ bills vetoed by Obama that never showed up on Trump’s desk.
[BBC] When Luca was born in a Perth hospital two years ago, it flipped his parents’ world in ways they never expected.
With the joy came a shocking diagnosis: Luca had cystic fibrosis. Then Australia - Laura Currie and her husband Dante’s home for eight years - said they couldn't stay permanently. Luca, his parents were told, could be a financial burden on the country.
“I think I cried for like a week - I just feel really, really sorry for Luca,” Ms Currie says. “He's just a defenceless two-and-a-half-year-old and doesn't deserve to be discriminated against in that way.”
With a third of its population born abroad, Australia has long seen itself as a “migration nation” - a multicultural home for immigrants that promises them a fair go and a fresh start. The idea is baked into its identity. But the reality is often different, especially for those who have a disability or a serious medical condition.
It is one of few countries that routinely rejects immigrants’ visas on the basis of their medical needs - specifically if the cost of care exceeds A$86,000 ($57,000; £45,000) over a maximum of 10 years. New Zealand has a similar policy but Australia's is much stricter.
The government defends the law as necessary to curb government spending and protect citizens' access to healthcare. It says these visas aren’t technically rejected. But neither are they granted. Some can apply for a waiver, although not all visas allow it. They could also appeal the decision but the process is lengthy and expensive.
Campaigners see this as discriminatory and out of step with modern attitudes towards disability. And after years of fighting for it, they are hoping for change in the coming weeks, with an official review of the health requirements under way.
Laura Currie and Dante Vendittelli had moved from Scotland for jobs that Australia desperately needs. She is a nursery teacher and he is a painter-decorator.
How is it that those roles cannot be filled by native citizens?
They had started their application for permanent residency before Luca was born. But now they feel like the life they built here and the taxes they paid meant little.
“It's like, we're here for you [Australia] when you need us, but when the roles are reversed and we need you, it's like, nope, sorry, you cost too much money, you go back to your own country.”

[Regnum] The corvettes Rezkiy and Gromkiy left Vladivostok for sea. They will conduct joint exercises in the Asia-Pacific region, the Pacific Fleet reported.
As part of the exercises, the corvettes will have to carry out a number of activities in the Asia-Pacific region, including searching for and destroying submarines of a simulated enemy. "Rezkiy" and "Gromkiy" will practice joint algorithms of actions in air defense and anti-sabotage defense at sea.
The events of the exercises began to unfold immediately upon leaving Vladivostok. The crews worked out emergency preparation for combat and a campaign, and also conducted training to repel an attack by drones of a simulated enemy.
Before leaving for exercises in the Asia-Pacific region, one of the corvettes took on board a Ka-27PS helicopter.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, in June Russian and Egyptian warships conducted joint exercises in the Mediterranean Sea. During the maneuvers, they worked out the formation of a detachment of warships in a designated area, conducted communications training, and provided flights for deck helicopters. The frigate Al-Qadir participated from Egypt. The joint training in the Pacific Fleet was called another practical step in strengthening Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation.
The nuclear-powered missile submarines Severodvinsk and Orel of the Northern Fleet carried out practical missile firing at the "enemy" in the Barents Sea. The exercises were conducted in accordance with the combat training plan.

Lesson #1 Laws are for honest people. Criminals don't obey laws.
Lesson #2 Gun Control laws are followed by Honest citizens.
Criminals don't follow Gun Control laws.
Suggested Solution:
Minimum 10-15 year prison sentence for criminals using a firearm in the commission of a violent felony. Plus a Nationwide Castle Doctrine law with immunity from criminal and civil actions when followed.
Unfortunately in Chicago, firearms and ammunition are not locally available for law abiding citizens unless they themselves start going around the laws and getting these from elsewhere.

[Regnum] Eight people continue to receive treatment in hospitals in Dagestan after the terrorist attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent, Assistant to the Minister of Health Alexei Kuznetsov told journalists on July 8.
“Eight victims in Derbent and Makhachkala remain in hospitals,” Kuznetsov said.
The Health Ministry representative added that the victims are in a moderate or mild condition, and doctors are noting positive dynamics in each of them.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, armed terrorists attacked two Orthodox churches, two synagogues and a traffic police post in Derbent and Makhachkala on June 23. Law enforcement officers eliminated six terrorists. It turned out that the militants included the children of the head of the Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov.
On June 24, the head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, announced that he had fired the official, since full responsibility for the terrorist attack should be taken. On June 26, the court arrested Omarov for 10 days for swearing in the street, and the next day it became known that five of Omarov's children had been administratively arrested for petty hooliganism.
On June 27, the Supreme Court of Dagestan declared that Magomed Omarov's son founded a gang that carried out terrorist attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent.
On July 1, it became known that the death toll from the militant attack had increased to 22 people. According to the head of Dagestan, 21 people died directly during the terrorist attacks and one police officer died the next day from serious injuries. Earlier, the Dagestan Ministry of Health reported that the actions of the terrorists also killed the rector of the church, Father Nikolai, and the head of the police department of the city of Dagestanskie Ogni, Lieutenant Colonel Mavludin Khidirnabiyev.
[Ynet] Recent satellite imagery shows major expansions at two key Iranian ballistic missile facilities that two American researchers assessed are for boosting missile production, a conclusion confirmed by three senior Iranian officials.
The enlargement of the sites follows an October 2022 deal in which Iran agreed to provide missiles to Russia, which has been seeking them for its war against Ukraine. Tehran also supplies missiles to Yemen's Houthi rebels and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah, both members of the Iran-backed Axis of Resistance against Israel, according to U.S. officials.
Images taken by commercial satellite firm Planet Labs of the Modarres military base in March and the Khojir missile production complex in April show more than 30 new buildings at the two sites, both of which are located near Tehran.
The images, reviewed by Reuters, show many of the structures are surrounded by large dirt berms. Such earthworks are associated with missile production and are designed to stop a blast in one building from detonating highly combustible materials in nearby structures, said Jeffrey Lewis of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
[NY Post] Consequences for being Assholes? That are Unpossible! Three Columbia University deans have been "permanently removed" from their posts for sharing "very troubling" texts that "disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes," school officials said Monday.
The three administrators — Susan Chang-Kim, Matthew Patashnick and Cristen Kromm — have been on leave since last month since it emerged they’d been involved in the disparaging text exchange that unfolded during a panel discussion about antisemitism on campus.
"This incident revealed behavior and sentiments that were not only unprofessional, but also, disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes," Columbia president Minouche Shafik said in a statement.
"Whether intended as such or not, these sentiments are unacceptable and deeply upsetting, conveying a lack of seriousness about the concerns and the experiences of members of our Jewish community that is antithetical to our university’s values and the standards we must uphold in our community."
Susan Chang-Kim, Columbia College’s vice dean and chief administrative officer, was among the university brass placed on leave in the wake of the exchange.
Provost Angela Olinto said that "the three staff members involved have been permanently removed from their positions at Columbia College and remain on leave at this time." It was not immediately clear what their current status was on staff.
Josef Sorett, another dean who was also involved in the text exchange, will remain in his post but will publicly apologize for his role in the ordeal, Shafik added.
The developments come weeks after images of the group chat emerged publicly after being captured by an alumnus sitting in the crowd during the May 31 panel about Jewish life on campus.
The group had exchanged the messages — including one featuring a vomiting face emoji — as speakers discussed the impact that rising antisemitism stoked by Israel’s war against Hamas has had on the Ivy League’s Jewish students and faculty.
In some of the texts, the administrators had accused Jewish students of asserting "privilege" — and mocked them for needing a place to "huddle" to avoid antisemitism and harassment on campus.
"Laying the case to expand physical space! They will have their own dorm soon," said Patashnick, associate dean for student and family support, in one text, prompting Chang-Kim, vice dean and chief administrative officer of Columbia College, to respond: "Comes from such a place of privilege."
In another exchange, Kromm, the dean of undergraduate student life, had used the vomiting emoji in reference to an op-ed in the student-led Columbia Spectator — titled "Sounding the alarm" — that was written by the school’s campus rabbi, Yonah Hain.

[Regnum] The Federal Security Service of Russia has thwarted an attempt by Ukrainian special services to hijack a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber to Kiev-controlled territory. This was reported on July 8 by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of Russia.
"The Russian FSB has thwarted yet another attempt by Ukrainian special services to hijack a long-range strategic bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces Tu-22M3 abroad," the Center for Public Relations reported.
It is specified that during the attempt to organize the hijacking of a military aircraft, Ukrainian intelligence was going to recruit a Russian pilot for a monetary reward and the provision of Italian citizenship, persuading him to fly and land the bomber in Ukraine.
“During the operational game, Russian counterintelligence agents received information that helped our armed forces inflict fire damage on the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Ozernoye airfield,” the FSB added.
The long-range supersonic missile carrier-bomber Tu-22M3 is equipped with a variable-sweep wing. The aircraft is designed to destroy sea and land targets with guided missiles and aerial bombs; in addition to conventional bombs and missiles, it can also carry nuclear weapons.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, in July 2022, Ukrainian intelligence also carried out an operation to bribe a Russian pilot and hijack a Russian Aerospace Forces plane to Ukraine, which was thwarted by the FSB. According to Russian intelligence, the navigator was planned to be poisoned with clonidine, for which the drug was then delivered to Volgograd.
An FSB operative said on July 25 that Ukrainian military intelligence intended to take hostage the family of a Russian military pilot who was being tempted to hijack a VKS plane. He emphasized that the Kiev regime has no moral or ethical limitations, and blackmail, threats, and pressure on relatives have become an integral part of their activities.

[Regnum] Russian military personnel have discovered a Ukrainian Armed Forces laboratory for the production of chemical weapons in one of the DPR settlements near Avdeevka, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces' Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops, said at a briefing on July 8.
A laboratory with chemical equipment was discovered in an industrial zone on the first floor of a destroyed building during an engineering reconnaissance.
The premises contained a semi-industrial rotary evaporator, a filtration exhaust system, chemical reactors, and carbon dioxide cylinders. The mobile diagnostic group of the RCB troops discovered shelves with laboratory glassware and reagents, gas masks, including those made in the USA, and a protective suit made in Poland.
A detailed analysis of equipment and exhaust fumes revealed the presence of sodium cyanide, sulfuric acid, and trace amounts of cyanide anions in the samples.
“The presence of these chemicals clearly indicates that the laboratory that was discovered was producing toxic substances with a general toxic effect,” Kirillov said.
He noted that the productivity of the laboratory installation found near Avdeevka is at least three kilograms per day. Its operation requires personnel - two or three people. The lethal inhalation dose for this group of toxic substances is very small and is only 70-80 mg for a person, the head of the RCB troops emphasized.
Hydrocyanic acid, a colourless volatile liquid with the odour of bitter almonds, is listed in Schedule III of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The use of this poison is prohibited by Article 1 of the CWC. When inhaled, the acid causes dizziness, increased respiratory rate, vomiting, convulsions, paralysis of the respiratory muscles and death.
As Kirillov noted, the Ministry of Defense has received confirmation of numerous facts of the use of toxic chemicals, including hydrocyanic acid, by the Kyiv regime. In May, in the village of Semenovka, located ten kilometers from Avdeevka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces dropped ammunition from a drone, after which the victims developed symptoms characteristic of hydrocyanic acid poisoning - difficulty breathing, vomiting, and a bitter almond taste.
Last month, the Kyiv regime's use of hydrocyanic acid was recorded by the military after a Ukrainian drone attacked Grayvoron. The poison was found on fragments of ammunition. In addition, Ukrainian prisoners of war reported laboratories producing chemical weapons.
“During his testimony, Ukrainian prisoner of war Sergei Batyr stated that American specialists were involved in their work, as well as the participation of these laboratories in the mass production of kamikaze drones,” Kirillov said.
The head of the NBC troops also reported at a briefing that during the special operation, Russian military personnel recorded 400 cases of toxic chemicals being used by the Ukrainian army. Kirillov emphasized that Kiev regularly violates the Chemical Weapons Convention.
At the same time, the West and the OPCW plan to accuse Russia of using chemical weapons. The US, Germany, Ukraine and the OPCW technical secretariat are preparing to launch a "special mission". One of the states will initiate an investigation and fabricate evidence. Washington has already allocated about $400,000 for this.
The United States and Germany, together with Kiev and the technical secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), intend to once again accuse Russia of allegedly using chemical weapons in the area of a special operation. This was stated on July 8 by the Chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense (RCBD) Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, at a briefing at the Ministry of Defense.
“According to available information, the United States and Germany, together with Ukraine and the OPCW technical secretariat, are preparing to launch a special mission to investigate the so-called facts of the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine with the aim of bringing charges against Russia,” he said.
The head of the NBC protection forces specified that for this purpose one of the “independent” states will initiate an investigation and fabricate evidence of the alleged use of toxic chemicals by the Russian side, for which the US has already allocated about 400 thousand dollars.
“At the same time, the OPCW received instructions from its Western curators not to respond in any way to the Russian Federation’s statements about Ukraine’s violations of the provisions of the Convention,” Kirillov explained.
He noted that Washington and London use the same methods within the framework of the “Mechanism for Conducting Scientific and Technological Assessment” and the “International Mechanism for Cooperation and Assistance” promoted at the site of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction (BTWC), which allow them to form an expert opinion on threats to biological security in their own interests.
“To this end, it is planned to create channels of influence on international political and scientific research structures involved in the work of the BTWC by allocating grant funding,” the military man added.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, Kirillov previously said that during the SVO, more than 400 cases of the Kiev regime using non-lethal toxic chemicals were recorded. He emphasized that Kiev, with the assistance of Western countries, does not limit itself to the use of non-lethal chemicals, actively using such compounds as Bi-Zet, hydrocyanic acid and chlorine cyanide.
The head of the NBC Protection troops reported on June 25 that the SBU sent a request to the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 2023 about the possibilities of studying samples of chemical, radiological, nuclear, and biological weapons. He added that in response, the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences confirmed the conduct of dual-use research under a 2005 agreement between the US Department of Defense and the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

[Regnum] None of the allies of the United States doubted the ability of American leader Joseph Biden to lead the country.
Absolutely, they do not doubt. But that he can’t lead, not that he can.
This statement was made on July 8 by the coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council John Kirby during a regular briefing for journalists.
When asked about media reports that, allegedly after the US President's failed debate with his political opponent Donald Trump, a number of European leaders expressed doubts about Biden's ability to lead the country, Kirby assured that this topic was not discussed in the White House and he was not aware of any such precedents.
Spokespeople only officially know what they’re officially told. But there’s always an awful lot to be known that they don’t. Officially, anyway.
Earlier, Regnum News Agency reported that current US President Biden considers himself the best candidate for the post of head of state from the Democratic Party in the presidential elections in November 2024.
The politician declared his “firm intention” to remain in the presidential race. At the same time, he noted that he would not “turn a blind eye” to the concerns that arose among his fellow Democrats after the televised debates with Trump.
Biden said on July 6 that he would drop out of the race only if “God Almighty” came down from heaven and told him to do so. He also noted that the Democratic leadership in both houses of Congress was urging him not to give up and not to quit.
More from regnum.ru Biden says he is 'firmly committed' to remaining in the presidential race
In a letter to the representatives of the Democratic Party in Congress, US President Joe Biden stated his “firm intention” not to leave the election race. On July 8, he published the text of the letter on the social network X.
“Despite the speculation in the press, <…> [I] am determined to stay in the [election race], see it through to the end, and defeat [former US President] Donald Trump,” the White House chief wrote.
At the same time, the American leader noted that he “does not turn a blind eye” to the concerns that arose in the ranks of Democrats after his televised debate with his political opponent.
Biden says he is clear and forthcoming about such concerns, saying he would not seek re-election unless he was absolutely certain he was best suited to defeat Trump.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, on July 7, a number of Democrats from the House of Representatives of Congress, in a conversation with the leader of the Democratic minority Hakeem Jeffries, called on the incumbent president to withdraw from the election race. In their opinion, otherwise, this could prevent the representatives of the Democratic Party from gaining a majority in the House of Representatives in the next elections.
On June 27, a televised debate between Biden and former US President Donald Trump took place in the United States. Biden later admitted that he had performed poorly in the debate with his political opponent.
On July 7, the Axios portal wrote that representatives of the Democratic Party called on Biden to withdraw from the elections before July 12. It was specified that calls for the head of the White House to withdraw from the presidential elections would be heard "from Barack Obama to the leaders of Congress."
Biden said on July 6 that he would drop out of the presidential race only if God came down from heaven and told him to do so. He claims that the Democratic leadership in both houses of Congress is urging him not to give in and not to drop out.
Even more from regnum.ru Radio host fired in US for interviewing Biden on White House issues
In the US, radio host Loful-Sanders was fired. It turned out that she independently negotiated and organized an interview with President Joe Biden and conducted it using questions written by the White House. The management of the WURD radio station did not know about this.
The station said in a statement that the interview questions were pre-determined, which "contradicts WURD Radio's principle of remaining independent and accountable only to listeners." It noted that the company's management had reached a mutual agreement with Loughall-Sanders "to part ways."
WURD Radio was the first to air an interview with Joe Biden after his debate with Donald Trump.
As reported by the Regnum news agency, the televised debates between Trump and Biden took place on June 27. Before they began, the opponents did not shake hands.
Biden admitted in an interview with Milwaukee radio host Earl Ingram that he "screwed up" in the televised debates.
Many Democratic Party supporters considered the incumbent president's speech a failure. They pointed out that the American leader constantly stuttered and confused while answering questions.
Representatives of the Democratic Party insist that US President Joe Biden withdraw his candidacy from the presidential election.

[REGNUM] Mass protests are taking place in the northern regions of Syria controlled by Turkey. The strikes that began have resulted in armed clashes between local residents and the Turkish army. The reason for the tension was reports from Turkey.
Waves of pogroms and attacks on objects associated with Syrian migrants swept through Kayseri and later other cities in the country. The cause of the unrest was the news of a Syrian man molesting an underage girl.
This is the narrative that informs the publications covering the latest events in the Turkish-Syrian borderland. However, the problem is multi-layered and has deeper roots.
NON-INTEGRATED MIGRANTS
First of all, the current tensions are a direct consequence of Turkey's active role in the Syrian crisis, as well as Ankara's nearly ten-year military presence in the north of the country.
After the start of the "Arab Spring" in the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), the Turkish government almost immediately sided with the Syrian opposition and opened the borders to refugees.
The result of this policy was the migration of a huge number of Syrians to Turkey. As of 2024, there are more than 3.6 million of them. It is important that only a small part of the refugees were able to integrate into Turkish society. This is the first reason for the discontent that arises among the Turks.
The second is of an economic nature.
Turkey has been experiencing hyperinflation since 2018
…it’s expensive to swan around the world like you really are a neo-Ottoman empire instead of a mere wannabe subsidized by Gulf Oil money…
and millions of residents are barely making ends meet. Against this backdrop, the population considers the costs of social support for migrants an unnecessary burden for the Turkish economy.
Moreover, after the conclusion of the agreement between Ankara and Brussels on refugees, Turkish society increasingly views its country as a “migration hub” for Europe, and this is clearly at odds with national interests.
Considering that Syrians make up the largest proportion of the total number of refugees, it is they who are the focus of public discontent.
Meanwhile, there are also tensions between Syrians and Turks on the other side of the border. Since 2015, Ankara has carried out three military operations in the SAR and created two military protectorates in the north and northwest of the country.
The first is governed by the Interim Government of Syria, the political body of the Syrian opposition, and the second by the Syrian Salvation Government, an administrative and political body created by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
…formerly Jabhat al Nusra, before that Al Qaeda in Iraq and Syria, which remained loyal to the home office when ISIS spun itself off…
(an organization banned in Russia) in 2017.
The socio-economic security of these zones is directly linked to the southern Turkish provinces adjacent to the Syrian border.
In addition, Ankara is the main sponsor of the Syrian National Army, the armed wing of the Syrian opposition.
It would seem that the population of the northern and northwestern regions of Syria should be grateful to Ankara for its support. However, it is not that simple. The residents of these regions have accumulated fatigue from living in an uncertain status.
It is obvious that the opposition's coming to power in Damascus by armed means is unrealistic. The option of a political settlement with major preferences for the opposition is also not in sight.
In the current situation, the population of the northern regions blames the Turkish authorities, who entered into negotiations with the allies of the Syrian government.
In addition, there is discontent in society with the Turkish military presence. Opposition media often report on various tragic incidents involving Turkish soldiers. All this also leads to anti-Turkish demonstrations by local residents.
LOCALS DON'T WANT DAMASCUS TO RETURN TO POWER
Another reason that has provoked the increase in violence in the northern regions of Syria is the ongoing process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus.
It was launched in late 2022, when the defense ministers of Russia, Syria, and Turkey met in Moscow. However, by the summer of 2023, the rapprochement between the parties had frozen.
It is noteworthy that during the period of normalization negotiations, anti-Turkish protests took place in the northern regions of the SAR, which are under Ankara’s protection.
In the summer of 2024, the process of restoring relations was restarted. The parties softened their positions, removing the harsh preconditions that had appeared earlier. Moreover, the presidents of the two countries publicly spoke about the prospects for establishing ties.
"Syria has a positive attitude towards normalizing relations with Turkey, if this process is based on respect for its sovereignty and the desire of the Syrian state to restore it over the entire territory of the country," said the country's President Bashar al-Assad.
His Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, returning from the SCO summit in Astana, also announced Ankara’s intention to reach an agreement with Damascus: “We have no reason not to restore diplomatic relations with Syria.”
Erdogan's words were met with hostility by the population of northern and northwestern Syria. Therefore, protests would have taken place in any case, as they already did in late 2022 - early 2023. The pogroms in Kayseri only accelerated the process.
A strong trigger was also the trial opening of the Abu al-Zindine crossing between areas controlled by the official government and areas controlled by the opposition.
Subsequently, the checkpoint was supposed to become a permanent commercial crossing that would strengthen trade and economic ties between the zones.
However, this move was negatively received by local residents, who came out to protest and blocked the road to the checkpoint.
The reaction of the population is indicative: some people are against the normalization of relations between the Syrian and Turkish governments, since under this condition the opposition areas will again come under the control of Damascus.
Thus, the current clashes have a “double bottom”. Firstly, it is the fatigue of the Syrians living in the northern regions of the SAR from the Turkish presence. Secondly, it is the response of local society to the possible normalization between Syria and Turkey.
Opposition-minded citizens are against the return of the official government's power to their areas of residence. In addition, the population perceives Ankara's actions as a betrayal.
At the same time, the anti-Syrian pogroms in Turkey did not become the primary cause of the outbreak of violence, but only accelerated the expected reaction of the residents of northern Syria.

Another massive missile strike by the Russian Armed Forces
After a brief pause, Russian troops launched a massive attack on targets in the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime. It took place in two stages: first, several night launches, followed by new waves of missiles in the morning and afternoon.
For the first time this summer, a series of attacks hit Kyiv. Explosions thundered in several areas of the city, where various military-industrial enterprises are located, such as the Antonov and Artem plants, which have repeatedly been the targets of attacks in the past.
One of the hits hit a building near the main building of the Okhmatdet children's hospital - it was from there that numerous shots of rubble being cleared were taken. According to preliminary information, striking elements from anti-aircraft missiles were found at the landing site. Later, local authorities reported damage and destruction of three transformer substations.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the target was the administrative building of one of the enterprises of Krivoy Rog - in the past days, the targets of the strikes were the Arcelor Metall plants and the local mining and processing plant. Also, one landing was recorded in Dnipropetrovsk itself.
A series of explosions also thundered in the area of airfields - Ozernoye in the Zhitomir region, Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytsky region and Voznesensk in the Nikolaev region. The last two objects are quite often targets of strikes by the Russian Armed Forces.
In Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) in the occupied territory of the DPR, hits fell on an object in the cemetery area in the northwestern part of the city, resulting in a large fire. Characteristically, HIMARS MLRS had previously been operating from this area regularly, with launches often observed by local residents.
The Ukrainian air defense did not succeed in repelling the attack - this is best demonstrated by the hits on Kyiv, which is the enemy's most protected area in terms of the density of air defense systems and other assets. This is partly due to the growing losses in anti-aircraft missile systems from strikes by the Russian Armed Forces, which, among other things, make it difficult to hit Russian cruise missiles on the distant approaches to the capital.
13:48 This morning, in response to the Kyiv regime's attempts to cause damage to Russian energy and economic facilities, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation inflicted a group strike with long-range precision weapons against Ukrainian military industrial facilities and Ukrainian Armed Forces air bases.
The strike targets have been achieved. The designated objects have been hit.
Statements by representatives of the Kyiv regime about Russia’s allegedly deliberate missile strike on civilian targets are absolutely untrue. My emphasis -- badanov
Numerous published photos and video footage from Kyiv clearly confirm the fact of destruction as a result of the fall of a Ukrainian air defense missile launched from an anti-aircraft missile system within the city limits.
We would like to especially note that similar hysterics by the Kyiv regime have been happening for several years now, and each time on the eve of the next meeting (summit) of its patrons from NATO.
The purpose of such provocations is to ensure further funding for the Kyiv regime and the continuation of the war until the last Ukrainian.

Air defense systems shot down two Leleka-100 unmanned aerial vehicles.
10:10 During the past night stopped attempts by the Kyiv regime to carry out terrorist attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.

[KavkazUzel] The Department of Fatwas and Reconciliation of the Muftiate of Dagestan has been abolished. The Mufti justified his decision by saying that the department "does not respond in a timely manner to the challenges of the time."
As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, on July 1, the Mufti of Dagestan announced a fatwa banning the niqab. On July 2, the head of the fatwa department of the Muftiate of Dagestan stated that there were no grounds for a general ban on the niqab, but a temporary ban could be introduced for security reasons. On July 3, the Muftiate of Dagestan announced a temporary ban on niqabs until a new theological opinion. The decision of the Dagestan Muslim Spiritual Directorate to ban the niqab is not mandatory, it will be followed only by those for whom the Muftiate is an authority, and this is far from all residents of the republic, religious scholars interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated.
Statements by representatives of the Islamic clergy on the issue of the fatwa on the niqab have sparked a debate about the presence of "radical" mosques in Dagestan and, on the contrary, those loyal to the muftiate. Disputes have also arisen about whether the ban is mandatory or advisory in nature. The "Caucasian Knot" reference " Fatwa on the ban on the niqab - a law or a recommendation " contains expert opinions on whether the ban of the Dagestan muftiate will be implemented.
Mufti of Dagestan Akhmad-Afandi Abdullaev held a meeting today with employees of the fatwa and reconciliation department. "It was decided to abolish the fatwa department due to the fact that the department does not respond to the challenges of the time in a timely manner," reads a message today on the muftiate's Telegram channel.
The mufti also said that further changes in the structure of the muftiate will be made in the coming days, the statement said.
The Telegram channel of the Fatwa Department of the Muftiate of Dagestan has not commented on the abolition of the department by 9:15 p.m. Moscow time. The last message is dated July 6 - it is a repost from the Muftiate's Telegram channel "Dua, recited on the last day of the year." Earlier that day, the Fatwa Department posted a link to a fatwa issued in 2021 on the question of whether Muslims can congratulate each other on the arrival of the new year according to the lunar calendar. The response states that congratulating on holidays is a "desirable action."
In the "Documents of Organizations" section of the "Caucasian Knot" an " Explanation from the Fatwa Department of the Muftiate of Dagestan regarding the ban on niqabs " was published.
Let us recall that on July 3, the Coordination Center of Muslims of the North Caucasus stated that wearing the niqab and burqa in modern conditions causes practical harm to Muslims and threatens discord in interreligious and interethnic relations. On July 4, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Karachay-Cherkessia introduced a temporary ban on wearing niqabs in the republic. On July 7, the Muftiate of Kabardino-Balkaria stated, citing the opinions of Islamic scholars, that wearing the niqab is a custom, and not an obligation for Muslim women. On July 8, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of North Ossetia recommended abandoning the wearing of niqabs, while the deputy mufti of the republic emphasized that a complete ban on niqabs would contradict Russian laws.
Mufti of Dagestan Akhmad-Afandi Abdullayev announced a fatwa banning the niqab after the head of the region, Sergei Melikov, spoke out against wearing niqabs following attacks by militants in Derbent and Makhachkala. The Dagestan Muslim Spiritual Directorate, as a religious organization, can issue a fatwa banning the niqab, but this is only a recommendation, and violators of it face a maximum of censure, Islamic scholars have pointed out.
On June 23, militants attacked a synagogue and Orthodox churches in Derbent and Makhachkala. As a result, 22 people were killed and 46 were injured. Among the attackers were the sons and nephew of the head of the Sergokalinsky District. "Kavkazsky Uzel" prepared reports " The Main Thing About the Participants in the Attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent " and " Attacks on a Church, Synagogues, and Security Forces in Dagestan."
In addition to the head of Dagestan, the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, spoke in favor of banning niqabs. "We need to ban all of this urgently," he said. Bastrykin also stated that the attacks in Dagestan were carried out by "Islamists." Ramzan Kadyrov criticized Bastrykin for these words, calling for him to "be extremely careful" in his statements about religion.
Earlier, on May 28, State Duma Deputy Speaker Vladislav Davankov proposed to empower legislative and municipal assemblies to introduce a ban on wearing religious clothing in public places. State Duma deputies from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Mikhail Matveyev and Sergei Obukhov also prepared a bill that proposes introducing fines for wearing clothing that conceals the face in public places.
The Kremlin is not discussing the issue of banning niqabs in the republics of the North Caucasus Federal District, the presidential press secretary said on July 4. The relevant committees of the State Duma are also not discussing this, and issues of religious clothing are within the competence of the clergy, the deputies pointed out.

[REGNUM] On July 8, 1709, five kilometers from Poltava, besieged by the Swedes, the renewed army of Peter I met an old enemy - the army of the Swedish king Charles XII. Being in the minority, the Swedish command underestimated the capabilities of the Russian army and expected a repeat of the quick victory, as happened at the beginning of the Northern War, near Narva.
As the reader is well aware, the hopes of the Swedish command were not justified. On the Poltava field, Russia won the main victory in the Northern War. This war made an empire out of Russia, and Sweden lost its historical chance for geopolitical power.
There are many myths surrounding this event. Some of them are born of current politics, others appeared due to attempts to simplify historical events. IA Regnum selected the most popular and harmful for historical self-awareness.
Myth one. The Russian army was not capable of victories before Peter the Great's reforms
In popular science sources, the pre-Petrine army is often presented as deeply archaic and incapable of victory. There are regularly colorful comparisons between the Russian army at Narva and the Russian army after the reforms - at Poltava: riflemen in multi-colored caftans with thick beards are replaced by orderly ranks of line infantry recruited from recruits.
The feudal militia of local cavalry was replaced by dragoon and hussar regiments; instead of dozens of calibers of artillery, the Russian army acquired modern guns of standardized calibers.
This extreme comparison is colorful, but far from the historical truth.
Regiments of the new order, linear tactics, dragoons and hussars, one of the best artillery in the world - all this already existed in Russia before the Tsar-reformer. In his reforms, Peter relied on the legacy of his father - Alexei Mikhailovich.
Peter speaks directly about this in the very first lines of his famous military regulations of 1716: "Because everyone knows how Our Father, of blessed and eternally worthy memory, began to use a regular army in 1647, and the Military Regulations were issued." Further, Peter says that his father's army "was established in such a good order" that it successfully fought against Poland and Sweden and only after his death fell into decline. But we should not forget that Peter came to power after the overthrow of his elder sister, Princess Sophia, whose reign, accordingly, was depicted in dark colors.
Be that as it may, weakened by the Streltsy rebellions and the interregnum, the inconsistency of Peter's first reforms, the old army did not disappear overnight and still managed to fight, sometimes quite successfully. Without the victories at Erestfer (1701) and Hummelshof (1702), the capture of Noteburg (1702), Narva and Dorpat (1704) and, of course, the battle of Lesnaya (1708), the Battle of Poltava would not have happened.
Myth two. Mazepa concluded an alliance treaty with Charles on behalf of Ukraine
In the national pantheon of the Kiev regime, the image of the traitor Ivan Mazepa occupies a special place.
The hetman of Little Russia and the tsar's protégé transforms himself into the sovereign ruler of an imaginary Ukrainian state, on whose behalf he allegedly concluded an agreement with Charles XII on assistance in liberating Ukraine from the rule of the Russian tsar and guaranteeing its independence. The fictitious text of this agreement has flooded the Internet.
Why does the myth that Mazepa almost tried on the crown of a sovereign ruler have nothing to do with historical reality?
Firstly, Ivan Mazepa was the leader of a broad Cossack autonomy within the Russian kingdom and was never an independent ruler or sovereign.
Secondly, at the time of Mazepa's betrayal, the Swedish protégé Stanislav Leszczynski had been placed on the Polish throne. Poland traditionally viewed Little Russia as its lost colony, and, of course, the interests of the Polish ally were much more important to Charles than the personal desires of the Little Russian official.
Thirdly, the agreements between Mazepa and Leszczynski, according to which the lands of Little Russia and Smolensk were transferred to Poland, and Mazepa received the princely title, “giving the right to own” Vitebsk and Polotsk, are well documented in historiography and do not raise questions among historians.
Mazepa's betrayal had extremely personal motives: faith in the power of Swedish weapons, a desire to settle in the new post-war world, and to receive a hereditary princely title.
Myth three. Most of the Cossacks and Little Russian gentry followed Mazepa
In Ukrainian historiography, attempts are being made to present Mazepa’s betrayal as a popular uprising against Russia.
The uprising did take place, but it was directed against the Swedish interventionists and the "Mazepa people". By building a national mythology around the figure of a traitor, Ukrainian historians are betraying the real Little Russian Cossacks, who resisted the Swedes en masse and remained loyal to the Russian Tsar.
Having learned of the betrayal, Peter managed to establish a dialogue with the Cossack elders in a short time, bypassing the Hetman's chancery. Legality was restored, and instead of Mazepa, the loyal Ivan Skoropadsky became hetman, leading the Little Russian Cossacks in the Battle of Poltava.
Mazepa's promised "bread and salt" on Little Russian soil turned into a brutal guerrilla war for the Swedes. Instead of fifty thousand Little Russian Cossacks, the disgraced hetman brought to the Swedish camp only three thousand serdyuks (mercenaries from Poland, paid from the hetman's pocket) and from two to eight thousand Zaporozhian Cossacks. Attracted by the opportunity to plunder and pillage in wartime, the "Mazepa men" were not eager to fight for the Swedes. And they modestly stood by while the Russian army beat the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava.
Myth 4. In the Battle of Poltava, Russia "pelted the Swedes with corpses"
This myth is structurally similar to similar myths about the Great Patriotic War. According to such myths, victory in the presence of numerical superiority always goes hand in hand with great losses.
Peter really did strive for confident victories, and for this he sought not only numerical but also qualitative superiority. On the day of the battle, Charles XII relied on select units - seventeen thousand Caroline infantry and royal cavalry.
Early in the morning they were to break through to the Russian camp and force a battle on their own terms. The Swedish officers counted on the passivity of the Russian commanders.
But the Russian lines met the enemy with coordinated fire and furious counterattacks. The Russian army had about a hundred guns on the battlefield, while the Swedes went into the attack with the support of four field guns.
Peter did indeed concentrate about twice as many soldiers in the Poltava area as the enemy, but most of them never managed to take part in the battle. In the end, the outcome of the battle was decided in a head-on battle, the Russian line infantry withstood the blow of the Swedish veterans and put them to flight.
The losses of the Russian army amounted to one thousand three hundred people killed and about three thousand wounded, with nine thousand Swedes killed. In the Poltava victory there is a place for a strategic plan, tactical maneuver, advantage in artillery, personal bravery and heroism, but no place for "meat assaults".
Myth 5. Peter personally led the troops into battle and was wounded
The fairytale nature of this story is quite obvious, but it stubbornly repeats itself from generation to generation, settles on Internet resources and social networks. Many want to see the first Russian emperor leading soldiers into an attack.
A medieval ruler could afford to give a general order to attack and rush towards the enemy line surrounded by squires. The absence of firearms and quality armor allowed the knight to take moderate risks.
But in the gunpowder era such heroism was impossible for the sovereign.
The complexity of the army's command structure and the dangers at the front had increased greatly compared to previous eras. The appearance of a senior officer at the front of the gunpowder era would almost certainly have deprived the army of leadership.
The story about three bullets is almost entirely a myth. But one bullet did exist. On the day of the Battle of Poltava, Peter's hat was actually pierced by it.
So Peter the Great nevertheless tasted his share of personal risk.
Myth 6. Most of the Swedes were able to retreat and maintain their fighting ability
The best army of Charles XII ceased to exist in three days. Nine thousand dead and three thousand captured Swedish soldiers, including dozens of generals and senior officers, remained on the field of the Battle of Poltava.
The retreating Swedish forces, pursued by Russian cavalry, reached the Dnieper two days later at Perevolochna, in the south of today's Poltava region. The defeated army of invaders was unable to organize a crossing. Only Ivan Mazepa, Charles XII and their closest entourage reached the opposite bank.
On July 11, the once best army in Europe, abandoned by its leaders, numbering seventeen thousand men, surrendered to the Russian nine-thousand-strong corps under the command of Menshikov.
Myth 7. After the Northern War, Sweden became neutral and peaceful
Russia is constantly reproached for remembering its victories. Allegedly, in the civilized world it is not customary to remember military successes. They point out the need to live only in the present and follow the example of such traditionally "neutral" countries as Sweden after the Northern War.
But is Sweden really so neutral? Russia had to fight Sweden three more times. Wanting to regain what was lost under the Peace of Nystad, incited by France and England, Sweden lost control over Finland.
During the Soviet-Finnish War, Sweden sent a volunteer corps of ten thousand people to Finland, declaring that it was not a party to the conflict. In order to provide its territories for the movement of military contingents of the Third Reich during the Second World War and actively supply its military factories with iron ore.
Sweden has finally secured its “neutral status” and “absence of revanchism” by joining the NATO military bloc on March 7, 2024.
[REUTERS] The Ugandan army has provided support to the M23 rebel group operating in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo ...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material... , a United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... report seen by Rooters on Monday said, as escalating festivities there fuel fears of a new all-out conflict.
Uganda denied involvement, saying it is cooperating closely with the Congolese government forces. The U.N. has long accused Rwanda of backing the M23, which has repeatedly seized large parts of mineral-rich eastern Congo, allegations Rwanda denied.
Congo has been riven by conflict for decades. Uganda and Rwanda invaded in 1996 and 1998 for what they said was defence against local militia groups. Uganda is still conducting joint operations with Congolese troops against a rebel Ugandan group.
The Tutsi-led M23 rebels have been waging a fresh insurgency in Congo's militia-plagued east since 2022.
Ugandan troops were part of a regional force deployed in November 2022 to monitor a ceasefire with the M23. Congolese authorities called for the force to withdraw last year, saying it was ineffective.
"Since the resurgence of the M23 crisis, Uganda has not prevented the presence of M23 and Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) troops on its territory or passage through it," the U.N. Security Council's Group of Experts said in the report, which was sent to the U.N. Security Council Sanctions Committee at the end of April and then to members of the Security Council in June.
The U.N. group also said it had obtained evidence confirming active support for M23 by officials from the military and military intelligence, with M23 leaders, including the sanctioned Sultani Makenga, travelling to Uganda for meetings.
Contacted by Rooters, deputy front man for Uganda's armed forces, Deo Akiiki, said such reports falsely accuse the east African country's army when its relationship with the Congolese forces (FARDC) is at its best.
"It would be mad for us to destabilise the same area we are sacrificing it all to have it stable," Akiiki said.
The U.N. report said some 3,000-4,000 Rwandan soldiers were fighting the Congolese army alongside the M23. The Rwandan army's "de facto control and direction over M23 operations also renders Rwanda liable for the actions of M23", the experts said.
In response, Rwanda said Congo was financing and fighting alongside a Hutu rebel group, the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), that has attacked Tutsis in both countries.
"The DRC has all the power to deescalate the situation if they want to, but until then Rwanda will continue to defend itself," Rwanda government spokesperson Yolande Makolo told Rooters.

[SAHARAREPORTERS] The Jama'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... has reportedly killed an unspecified number of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. [AIT.LIVE] The 8th batch of the re-integration of low risk and minors of 560 repentant Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... Militants have commenced training in Maiduguri, Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
The essence of the training is to prepare them for life after camp.
The re-integration training will be on between 6 and 9 months.
According to Brigadier General Abdullah Ishaq retired, who is the Borno State Special Adviser on Security Affairs, the trainees will be introduced to trades on different skills, before they are finally taken back to their respective communities.
He says they will be receiving lectures for 2 weeks from academicians, the police, the National Orientation Agency, religious leaders and other relevant sectors of the society.
They will also receive Starter packs at the end of the programme, before being returned to their communities who had screened them for the training.
[Epoch Times] A federal jury has awarded $687,000 to a research scientist who was fired from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee for refusing to comply with the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Tanja Benton, who had worked at the firm for 16 years when she was fired, was awarded $177,240 in back pay, $10,000 in compensation, and $500,000 in punitive damages, according to a document made public by the federal court in eastern Tennessee on June 30.
Company officials told Ms. Benton in August of 2021 that she would need to be "fully vaccinated" to keep her position, according to her lawsuit. Ms. Benton refused, saying aborted fetal cell lines were involved in the development of the COVID-19 vaccines and she couldn’t "in good conscience consume the vaccine, which would not only defile her body but also anger and dishonor God."

[EngMilRu] This morning, in response to the Kiev regime's attempts to damage objects of Russian power infrastructure and economy, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation delivered a group strike by long-range precision weaponry at objects of the Ukrainian military-industrial infrastructure and AFU aviation bases.
The goal of the strike has been achieved. All the assigned targets have been engaged.
Statements of the Kiev regime about the allegedly deliberate missile strike launched against civilian facilities by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are false.
Numerous published photos and footage from Kiev clearly confirm that the destruction was caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile launched by an anti-aircraft missile system in the city.
We note in particular that similar hysterics by the Kiev regime happen for years and every time on the eve of another meeting (summit) of its patrons from the NATO.
The goal of such provocations is to ensure further funding for the Kiev regime and the continuation of the war to the last Ukrainian.

Russians deny the charge.
[Korrespondent] The White House believes that the Russian strike on Okhmatdet is a crime by Russian troops that deserves a separate investigation.
The Russians have committed another war crime. Perhaps one of the bloodiest during the entire full-scale invasion. As a result of the Russian strike on Ukrainian territory on July 8, 33 people were killed and 140 were wounded. In particular, the strike hit the country's largest children's hospital, Okhmatdet. How did the world react to the Russian crime? THE US WANTS AN INVESTIGATION
The White House condemned the massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine, in particular on Okhmatdet.
"Today's horrific attack on Ukraine, including on a children's hospital, demonstrates the terrible price that Russian aggression is paying, and that leader Vladimir Putin is willing to pay in his war," Michael Carpenter, director of European affairs at the US National Security Council, said at a briefing.
"The attack on the maternity hospital, as well as on the children's hospital, is unfortunately not the first time that this has happened during the war," he added.
According to him, the United States will continue to make efforts to support Ukraine's ability to resist Russian invasion.
Carpenter also expects that steps to strengthen Ukrainian air defenses to prevent attacks like today will be announced at this week's NATO summit. "If Putin thinks he can wait out the West, he's wrong," the official said.
"The attack on the maternity hospital, as well as the children's hospital, is unfortunately not something that has happened for the first time during the war," Carpenter added, once again emphasizing that further action is needed after this crime by the Russians. "I expect that this attack is one that will require a deeper study, an investigation," he said.
THE CZECH REPUBLIC REMEMBERS USEFUL IDIOTS
Against the backdrop of the Russian attack on Okhmatdet, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky criticized the "useful idiots" who "dream" of peace with Russia.
"While useful idiots dream of peace with Putin, he sends missiles to a children's hospital," Lipavsky wrote.
He noted that he is now traveling to Washington for the NATO summit, where he will promote a long-term strategy for containing Russia.
PROTEST IN PRAGUE
Several dozen people held a protest on Monday, July 8, in Prague against the morning bombing of the Okhmatdet children's hospital in Kyiv.
The protesters stood with a large banner reading in English "There can be no peace without Russia's defeat" and Ukrainian flags. Nearby, they placed children's toys and clothes smeared with red paint, symbolizing the victims of the shelling.
The demonstrators observed a minute of silence for the dead and injured, sang Ukrainian songs, chanted "Glory to Ukraine," and called on NATO, whose leaders are gathering in Washington, to take decisive action.
WHAT THEY SAY IN BRITAIN
"An attack on innocent children. The most horrific thing that can happen. We stand with Ukraine against Russian aggression - our support will not wane," said the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The attack was also condemned by EU High Representative Josep Borrell: "Russia continues to ruthlessly target Ukrainian citizens. Dozens were killed and wounded in today's attacks, and Kyiv's largest children's hospital was destroyed. Ukraine needs air defense systems. All those responsible for Russian war crimes must be held accountable."
Kyiv has initiated the convening of the UN Security Council, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Russia will chair the Security Council for a month from July 1.
It is noteworthy that the massive missile attack on Ukrainian cities took place right before the start of the NATO anniversary summit. One of its topics is military support for Ukraine, which has been asking Western countries for a sufficient number of air defense systems since the very beginning of the Russian invasion.
THE MEANING OF OKHMATDET
"Okhmatdet is the main children's hospital in Ukraine. One of the most important exclusively children's hospitals not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe. Okhmatdet has saved and restored health to thousands of children," is how Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described it.
Every year, Okhmatdet treats up to 20 thousand children, including those with rare and severe diseases. The hospital performs up to 10 thousand operations every year; it is the only center in the country that saves premature newborns weighing 500 grams. In addition, the hospital's Children's Hematology Center is the country's leading institution for leukemia diagnostics and bone marrow transplants.
Okhmatdet is not only the largest, but also one of the oldest hospitals in the country. This year it celebrated its 130th anniversary. From the very beginning of the Russian invasion, Okhmatdet doctors treated children who were injured as a result of the fighting.
REACTION OF UKRAINIANS

We just came through Pride Month. Pride parades, celebrations, commercials, and notices were ubiquitous, everywhere, like drag queens. And not just where you might expect them, either.
It seemed nary a crosswalk, sports team, business, or email was unadorned by some form of acknowledgement or touting of the LGBTQ community.
So proud! Couldn’t be any prouder of our gender (whatever it is today) or sexuality!
Because that is what matters, what is really at the very heart of who we are, right? And that’s why they want to make sure youngsters are involved, as well. The younger the better. The younger, the prouder!
Hunter Biden is proud. And therefore defiant. And his dad, the president, claims he is “the smartest man I know.” And who would know better than Old Joe? No wonder Hunter is proud.
Dr. Jill Biden is proud, too. Of her husband. She exclaimed to him (of his recent debate performance) “You answered every question … !”
Well, sort of … and not at all well, but, hey, ice cream and a gold star for the commander-in-chief.
The pro-Hamas students on every campus are also proud. They are in-your-face proud. So proud of supporting the Hamas terrorists that many chanted “We are Hamas!”
NBC was once so proud its slogan was “Proud as a peacock!” It was so proud, in fact, that it spun off a new channel named Peacock. And the Peacock network has shows like “Queer As Folk,” “Queer Planet,” and “TransAmerica.”
All in its “LGBTQIA+ Collection.”
You know who else is proud? Nearly everyone! Muslims, feminists, Native Americans, “educators,” “journalists,” the polyamorous, etc.
Everyone but straight, white, male Christians. And why should they be proud, anyway? The younger ones have been kicked out of the military … and the older ones branded “domestic terrorists.”
No pride for you!
I mean there is only so much pride to go around, right?
I can’t remember, does pride cometh — or goeth — before the fall?

Pride (superbia), also known as hubris (from Ancient Greek ὕβρις) or futility. It is considered the original and worst of the seven deadly sins on almost every list, the most demonic.[39] It is also thought to be the source of the other capital sins. Pride is the opposite of humility.[40][41]
Pride has been labeled the mother of all sins and has been deemed the devil's most essential trait. C. S. Lewis writes in Mere Christianity that pride is the "anti-God" state, the position in which the ego and the self are directly opposed to God: "Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind."[42] Pride is understood to sever the spirit from God, as well as His life-and-grace-giving Presence.[19]

Glad fat people are getting some well deserved respect. Saw some female pop singers on July 4th that would have held their own in a sumo match. I could see one of them tossing salt in the air and catching in a foil bag to season some potato chips.

Re #3. A bit about pride vs humility...
As a moral virtue, humility keeps a person from reaching beyond himself. It is the virtue that restrains our natural desire for personal greatness and instead, leads us to an orderly, justified love for ourselves based on a true appreciation of our position with respect to God and neighbor. Humility is not only opposed to pride, but is also opposed to inordinate self-abjection. In other words, we are to be humble, but not humble in a sense that we fail to recognize God’s gifts and use them according to His will.
[TVCNEWS.TV] The combined forces of Nigerian Army troops from Combat Team 7 of the 27 Task Force Brigade and a hunters group have foiled an attempt to blow up a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) tower near Kasesa village on the outskirts of Damaturu, Yobe State.
Following credible intelligence on Boko Haram activities, troops swiftly laid a successful ambush on the terrorists and foiled their attack, causing them to abandon their explosive devices.
Items recovered from the scene include one Toyota Corolla, eight prepared Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), detonating cables, two damaged tyres, and a trade test card/certificate.
[CityJournal] As President Biden’s weak debate performance continues to erode his standing in the polls and the credibility of his reelection campaign, not to mention his presidency, observers may wonder why the Biden team continues to operate as though nothing has happened. Every day brings news of elected Democrats or major donors openly imploring Biden to terminate his campaign. With early voting in some states set to begin in September, time is running short if the party wishes to "swap in" a new candidate at the top of the ticket.
Democratic leaders are in a bind. Biden remains popular with the party’s rank-and-file, who are less concerned about swing-state opinion polls, "electability" questions, or down-ballot considerations than are party insiders, who obsess over these matters. It nevertheless appears obvious to many observers that the president, whose legendary "gaffes" are beginning to look like unambiguous signs of dementia, will eventually have to come up with a dignified way to exit the race. But doing so ahead of his nomination poses significant problems for Democratic Party leadership. After all, the Democrats are fractious by nature—but even more so now. The party includes an extraordinarily broad spectrum of opinion. Some senior members believe that Israel is a pariah state; others are hawkish Zionists. The party includes socialists who seek to end private markets in housing and health care and fiscal centrists who voted against Biden’s economic agenda. The party has built this unlikely coalition on a foundation of minority identitarianism and "inclusion," so representation at the level of race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation is a central concern in forming consensus.
...This factionalism is helpful as a means of attracting voters who feel disenfranchised, but much less so when it comes to facing something as contentious as an open convention, which is essentially the proposal being pushed by people calling for Biden to withdraw. An open convention, in which no candidate has secured a majority of votes ahead of time, hasn’t occurred in either party since 1952, when it took multiple ballots before Adlai Stevenson won the Democratic nomination.
If Biden bows out before getting nominated, one can easily imagine a host of candidates emerging to replace him. Even if, as many prominent voices are urging, Biden throws his support to Vice President Kamala Harris, his pledged delegates will be allowed to vote for a candidate of their choosing. Elements in the Democratic Party would prefer other candidates besides Harris, whose own electability is a major question.
...The Biden campaign’s current efforts to tread water, which many find mystifying, may reflect the Democratic leadership’s desire to carry the president over the line to the nomination, only then having him step aside in favor of a new candidate.
Political parties at every level maintain a committee on vacancies to deal with post-nomination absences, which can occur through death, dropouts, or other incapacitating events. According to the Charter and Bylaws of the Democratic Party, vacancies in the national ticket are managed by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) itself. The DNC is composed of true party insiders: the heads of all the state parties (and the highest-ranking officer of another gender); 200 other members apportioned by state population; the heads of various labor unions; senior Democrats in Congress; prominent mayors; representatives of "Democrats Abroad"; and so on.
This group, totaling about 500 people, would be called upon by the Executive Committee of the DNC to vote on filling a vacancy on the national ticket. The vote would require a quorum of half the members, who must actually be present to vote. The meeting would, presumably, be held in private, like a papal conclave. The committee members, all party regulars, would be able to pick a new candidate strictly on the question of electability, without regard to fringe opinion.
This scenario is hypothetical, of course, but the Democrats are in uncharted political territory. It is probable that every permutation is being analyzed in the party’s high chambers. Waiting until after the nomination to relieve Biden of his command would sacrifice transparency in favor of apparent harmony, but that may be a trade-off the mandarins are willing to make.

It's Jill, Hunter, and Obama hanging on. Jill likes the perks of the White House, Hunter doesn't want to give up the money from selling access, and Obama isn't finished fundamentally transforming the country.

Jill Biden is negotiating are pardon deal because as soon as Joe steps down that ship has sailed. A deal would probably include Hunter which is a harder one to swallow because pardoning Joe can be played off as a uniting the country move while Hunter went down for gun charges not for the laptop which is harder.
Perhaps Joe can pardon Hunter on his way out, despite his promises not to do so but assurances must be made.

Joe not only has an outsized ego but also has magical thinking (Trillion$ programs produce lots of jobs but no inflation) and Mitty fantasies (I put together NATO, I put down Corn Pop).
To be sure a lot of politicians have those characteristics (including Trump) but in Biden's case his incompetence and diminishing brain make it way worse.

What I find funny is a few days ago only Michelle Obama was beating Trump in the polls. Today only Hillary is beating Trump in the polls. The different Democrat factions are all trying to gain the upper hand and I don't think any are getting traction.
A smart politician would wait 4 years until Trump has fixed the country and has been attacked and villified for 4 years and people have 4 years to forget Democrat overreach and horrific economy. That would be a better time for Newsome to run and I think he knows it.

Hunter is leading policy meetings. We can’t have that through January. Joe needs to be canned.

At least since Obama won in 2008 I've been fascinated by Democrat Party discipline. Pelosi ruled the House with an iron hand. All of the Democrat members always voted the way the leadership told them to vote. I never heard any dissent. Republicans, the Stupid Party, seemed weak and divided. Pelosi, Schumer and Obama always got their way. If indeed there is a "broad spectrum of opinion" in that party, we've seen precious little of it in the past two decades. It would do us all a lot of good if some cracks in this monolith would finally appear.
And I still can't help wondering if the DNC is really the organization calling the shots or if it's Obama or if it is some other shadowy person or organization phoning it in to Kalorama from an even more obscure location. But it would be wonderful if he/she/they finally lost his/her/their grip.
Biden's obstinance is interesting because up until now most of us assumed he was only taking orders from Obama and, if ordered to stand down, he would. The scariest thing was the idea that Biden really was in charge in spite of his cognitive issues. But we still don't know because all of this could be part of some strategy that has yet to unfold. Democrats are full of tricks and this could all just be the latest trick. Let's just hope this is some kind of failure or mistake instead and they have no better options.

Hunter has become the gatekeeper and openly participating in senior meetings seated next to his father. Already questions are being raised about him receiving possibly classified information. This is a presidency converting to an Imperial kleptocracy because of a feckless political party unwilling to invoke the 25th and lose power. Never was there a clearer justification for immediate Impeachment or removal by the 25th Amendment!

CTH may have hit upon a primary motive behind the massive illegal immigration surge:
"The people behind Joe Biden that used illegal voter registration, subsequent ballot harvesting, and ultimately corrupt ballot counting to install Biden into office, have threatened to veto any legislation that would impede their election fraud operation."
"By now we should all know the essential process being deployed. This is the reason for the open border policies.
The Biden administration (DHS) is not “importing democrat voters.” Instead, DHS is importing people, names, that allows the state fraud process to generate ballots. This is an important distinction.
The migrants will not use the ballots. The DNC harvesters will collect them, fill them out (Team Obama), then the Precinct workers will scan them and count them (Team Clyburn). Illegals don’t need to vote. They only need to exist to create a ballot. "

When the voting returns wildly exceed the 2020 census of adults in key cities/states, that's when they'll force the "what are you going to do about it" moment.

What they should do is gather up a select group of press and head on out to a vehicle park, have Joe drive up to the crowd, get out, and make some poses in his aviators.
The catch is that the actual driving controls will be for the starboard seat and the actual drive be dressed and situated so as not to be seen from a predetermined camera position.
The Curse of the Helmet was doomed!
A clatter, and suddenly loomed
From out of the sun
Our Great Pilot! As one:
"How articulate, clean, and well-groomed!"
Bicycling. Takes stamina and concentration. Get Joe out to some nice looking bike trails and have him peddle around, smartly dressed, and pull up suave to a group of selected media attendants.

First, Joe still thinks he is full control of his faculties and the only people who could convince him otherwise have no interest in doing so. Second, all the money Biden/Harris has raised can only go toward their election and cannot be used by another nominee. Third, they know Harris would lose against Trump, but they can't replace her without angering the black female vote. The Democrats don't have many options and may choose to run Joe and hope they can squeeze out a victory against Trump.
[BMANALYSIS] Summer is here… heatwaves are incoming, and with them, the much-announced and expected Ukrainian new wonder weapon — his “majesty,” the F-16.
I have already written an analysis of this aircraft, and nothing is unknown.
The first question regarding the F-16's role in Ukraine is where they will be located. Several well-equipped airfields potentially can host them, but they are exposed, and from time to time, Russia attacks them, so chances that any will be a permanent base are unlikely. The F-16 is a demanding aircraft and requires well-trained and supplied maintenance crews and logistics. Also, it requires pristine runways, which are not always available. So, they may be placed in Allied bases, such as Poland and Romania. From there, they can perform combat sorties, which is the sure path to escalation and is just a “hair” away from WWIII.
Let's assume a dozen get to Ukraine and be sheltered in some hardened structures.
Flight distance to the front line is large, so they might be used as standoff weapons carriers. Direct close-range attacks against Russian positions are too risky, so one of the roles may be to provoke, expose, and clear the path for ATCMS attacks. They may be used to launch long-range decoy drones to trigger and saturate air defenses. Western strategists have high expectations that the F-16 will seriously degrade and overcome the up-to-now outstanding Russian integrated air defenses.

[Korrespondent] The Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively destroying the enemy in the south and east of Ukraine.
The Russian invaders are concentrating their main efforts on the Pokrovsky direction - more than a third of all battles took place there.
Since the beginning of the day, 85 combat clashes have occurred on the front. The enemy continues to increase the pace of offensive actions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in a report on Monday, July 8.
Thus, in the Kharkov direction, our soldiers repelled five enemy assaults in the areas of Glubokoe, Volchansk, Tikhe and Staritsa.
In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy twice unsuccessfully stormed the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Stelmakhovka. Another battle continues near Berestovo.
In the Liman direction, the Russians carried out 10 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Grekovka, Nevsky, Makeyevka and Terny during the day. Seven combat clashes ended without success for the enemy, the rest are ongoing.
In the Seversky direction, five attacks were repelled near Verkhnekamenskoye and Spornoye.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the invaders carried out eight unsuccessful assaults near Chasy Yaru, Bogdanovka, Grigoryevka, Belaya Gora and Andreyevka.
In the Toretsk direction, the number of enemy attacks has increased to 13. There is currently one battle underway near New York.

The occupiers have already made 30 attempts to push back our defenders in the areas of Vozdvizhenka, Novoalexandrovka, Timofeyevka, Kalinovka, Evgenyevka, Yasnobrodovka and Umanskoye. The defense forces have repelled 17 enemy attacks, 13 battles are still ongoing. The most active enemy is near Novoalexandrovka and Novoselovka Pervaya.
In the Kurakhovsky direction , four battles ended near Krasnogorovka, Georgievka, Konstantinovka and Paraskoveevka.
In the Vremevsky direction, clashes continue near Vodyanoye and Konstantinovka. The defense forces are taking measures to prevent the occupiers from advancing deep into our territory.
In the Orekhov direction , an enemy assault was repelled near Malaya Tokmachka.
In the Dnieper direction, the occupiers continue to try to dislodge the units of the Defense Forces from their positions on the bridgeheads. Three attacks by the Russians were unsuccessful.
Let us recall that 1,200 Russians were killed on the front in one day on August 7. The aggressor's total losses have exceeded 552 thousand fighters since the beginning of the war.
[RussiaToday] The 81-year-old president reportedly needs detailed illustrated instructions to enter and exit rooms
US President Joe Biden’s every movement is planned by his assistants, with photos showing the elderly leader exactly how to get to the podium at events, Axios reported on Monday.
Before each of his public appearances, Biden’s staffers prepare a document for the president, detailing how he will enter the venue, how he will walk to the podium, and how he will face the audience, the US news site reported. Images of these documents show full-page photographs of the route Biden will walk, with simple, one-line text instructions such as “Walk to the podium.”
