"We noticed a guy bear crawling on the roof with a rifle."
"I'm standing there pointing at him for two to three minutes, and the Secret Service is looking at us."
"Next thing you know, five shots rang out."
"Secret Service blew his head off."

#34  Once upon a time in mid 1960's, in Austin TX, I attended a speech given in a wide open venue similar to that in Butler PA today. Speaker was President Johnson. It was mid afternoon. There were multiple buildings with flat roofs in the vicinity. I scanned them all and could easily make out men standing on every roof, spaced a few dozen feet apart. I wonder how the perp was able to get to a convenient firing position without being challenged.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Muhammad Deif is no more, probably
[NY Post] A major Israeli airstrike in Gaza Saturday targeted the Hamas commander considered the mastermind of the horrific Oct. 7 attacks that left 1,200 Israelis dead and triggered the war.

Israel Defense Forces shot rockets at a fenced-off compound where Muhammad Deif, the commander of Hamas’s military wing, and Rafa’a Salameh, the commander of Hamas’s Khan Younis Brigade, were holed up, according to multiple reports.

The military was still waiting for intelligence to confirm whether Dief, leader of the group’s notorious Qassam Brigades, and Salameh were killed in the strike. The Saudi news channel al-Hadath reported that Dief was seriously injured and Salameh was killed, according to the Times of Israel, but their fates were not yet officially determined.

Dief is widely viewed as Hamas’ second-in-command in Gaza behind the supreme terror boss Yahya Sinwar. Long sought by the Israeli military, his death could derail cease-fire talks, but would also be seen as a major victory for Israel.

Witnesses said the strike landed inside an Israeli-designated safe zone that stretches from northern Rafah to Khan Younis. The IDF said the building the strike targeted is in a civilian area but was not part of a camp for displaced Palestinians. The IDF, which released before-and-after images of the site that showed a fenced-off area, said no Israeli hostages were held at the location.

"The area that was struck is an open and forested area, with several buildings and sheds," the military said. The images show before and after the strike.

In a statement, Hamas denied that Deif had been targeted in the strike.
"No, no. He is alive and well. Sunbathing on the beach!"
Unverified reports from the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said at least 71 Palestinians were killed and 289 injured in the strike. Hamas figures do not distinguish between civilian and terrorist casualties and the group is known to hide high value targets in densely populated areas.

"Israel targeted October 7 mastermind Muhammed Deif, head of the Hamas military wing," said Eylon Levy, a former government spokesman on X Saturday. "If he was hiding among civilians in a makeshift camp, that shows how determined Hamas is to use civilians as human shields and sacrifices."

Videos circulating on X showed Israelis breaking into celebration when news of the strike was announced.

Long before the current war, Deif was wanted by the Israeli military and became infamous for his ability to elude capture or assassination. In December, Israel placed a $100,000 bounty on his head, the Times of Israel reported.

The strike comes as U.S., Egyptian and Qatari mediators continue to work to narrow the distance between Israel and Hamas over a proposed deal for a three-phase cease-fire and hostage release plan in Gaza.

US, Germany foil Russian plan to assassinate exec of arms firm helping Ukraine: report
[NYPost] The US and Germany claim to have worked together to shoot down a Russian plot to assassinate the CEO of a German arms manufacturer that is the main supplier of 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine, according to reports.

Russia planned to kill Armin Papperger, head of Rheinmetall, as well as other executives of European defense companies aiding Ukraine’s war effort, sources close to the situation told CNN. The Papperger plot, which was discovered earlier this year, was believed to have been at an advanced stage.

"We’re seeing sabotage, we’re seeing assassination plots, we’re seeing arson. We’re seeing things that have a cost in human lives," a senior NATO official told reporters, as leaders gathered in Washington, DC, for the 75th NATO summit. "I believe very much that we’re seeing a campaign of covert sabotage activities from Russia that have strategic consequences."

American intelligence learned of the plot and warned its Germany counterparts, who then protected Papperger and thwarted the plan.

Rheinmetall, which already has a plant in Ukraine, is opening an armored vehicle factory there in the coming weeks. The company previously said it would open a total of four production plants in Ukraine.

"Russia’s intensifying campaign of subversion is something that we are taking extremely seriously and have been intently focused on over the past few months," National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement. "The United States has been discussing this issue with our NATO allies, and we are actively working together to expose and disrupt these activities. We have also been clear that Russia’s actions will not deter allies from continuing to support Ukraine."

For more than six months, Russia has reportedly been implementing a campaign to sabotage the flow of weapons from Europe to Ukraine, largely by hiring local amateurs for various acts like arson attacks on warehouses linked to arms for Ukraine and vandalism.

#1  "We’re seeing sabotage, we’re seeing assassination plots, we’re seeing arson. We’re seeing things that have a cost in human lives," a senior NATO official told reporters. Well what the fudge are you going to do about it? Whine?

Human rights activists linked Alkhanov's transfer from Rostov pretrial detention center to an attempt to extract testimony
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Magomed Alkhanov, the defendant in the case of the attack on the Pskov paratroopers, and two other natives of Chechnya, as well as one native of Dagestan, were transferred from Rostov's SIZO-1 after the hostage-taking. Alkhanov and the other detainees are not allowed to see a lawyer; human rights activists believe that they may be subjected to torture.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", Magomed Alkhanov escaped from custody on October 26, 2021, while undergoing a medical examination in a psychiatric hospital department in Astrakhan.
Yes, but was he truly crazy, or old-fashioned Soviet-style drugging-of-troublesome-prisoners “crazy”?
Security forces put him on the federal wanted list, and the FSIN promised a reward of 100,000 rubles for help in finding him. On November 2, 2021, he was detained. According to investigators, an FSIN employee helped him escape for a bribe of one million rubles.

On June 16, prisoners in Rostov's SIZO-1 took two employees of the detention center hostage. During the assault, the prisoners who took the hostages were killed and the hostages were released. On June 18, it became known that one of the participants in the hostage taking, 28-year-old native of Stavropol Daniil Kamnev, survived and is in intensive care in serious condition. He has been arrested until August 15.

Also  arrested was Malik Gandaloyev, a native of Ingushetia, who, according to security forces, participated in the hostage taking in the detention center. The hostage takers declared themselves to be followers of the "Islamic State". The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report " Taking of Hostages in the Rostov SIZO " with a chronology of these events.

A native of Chechnya, Magomed Alkhanov, accused in the case of the attack on the Pskov paratroopers, and three other prisoners were suddenly transferred from the Rostov-on-Don pretrial detention center No. 1, where an escape attempt had previously occurred, to the Taganrog pretrial detention center, the Memorial Human Rights Defense Center reported today (the Memorial Human Rights Defense Center has been recognized as a foreign agent).

According to human rights activists, after the assault, Alkhanov and other Muslim prisoners were beaten by special forces. Relatives were afraid to talk about this, so as not to worsen the prisoners' situation. Magomed himself expressed concerns that the security forces would want to present him as an accomplice to the invaders, since some of them were in his cell.

Alkhanov was placed in a solitary confinement cell in Taganrog's SIZO-2, restricted in daily walks, has no access to personal hygiene products, was not given personal items, and cannot even change into clean clothes.

Magomed is not allowed to see a lawyer. The detention center staff say that the man refuses to meet with his lawyer, but his relatives do not believe this. They fear that violence is being used against Alkhanov to obtain a confession about complicity in the preparation of an escape from SIZO-1, the report states.

Along with Alkhanov, at least three prisoners were transferred to Taganrog - two Chechens and a Dagestani. They are also not allowed to see lawyers, human rights activists emphasized.

A recess has been declared in the consideration of the case against Alkhanov, which has been ongoing since December 2022, and the next hearing is scheduled for August 5, according to the case file on the website of the Southern District Military Court.

Magomed Alkhanov, in particular, is accused of involvement in the attack on the Pskov paratroopers in Chechnya. On the night of March 1, 2000, soldiers of the 6th company of the 104th Regiment of the 76th Guards Airborne Division entered into battle in Chechnya with a large detachment of  Shamil Basayev  and  Khattab. The company held off the onslaught of about 2,000 militants for about a day, who were trying to break out of the encirclement. Then 84 of the 90 servicemen died, 370 militants were killed. Among the reasons for the tragedy, analysts name corruption and incompetence of the command and officers, according to the reference material " Battle for Height 776: How the Pskov paratroopers died ", published on the "Caucasian Knot".

City, the Israel Defense Forces announced on Friday, as troops raided an UNRWA facility in the area that the army said was used by the terror group as a command center.

According to the IDF, Shweidah had carried out numerous attacks on troops in Gaza, and was involved in planning in executing the October 7 onslaught, when thousands of Hamas-led murderous Moslems stormed southern Israel to kill nearly 1,200 people and take 251 hostages, sparking the war in Gaza.

One of the Shejaiya Battalion’s company commanders, Ubadah Abu Hain, was also killed in the strike, the IDF said, describing him as a seasoned and prominent commander who had taken a significant part in the fighting.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
several rockets were fired on Friday from northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun at the Lachish Regional Council area in southern Israel yesterday, setting off sirens in the town of Nir Israel, near Ashkelon.

The IDF said the rockets struck open areas, and in response, airstrikes were carried out against sites belonging to terror groups in the area of the launch.

Paleostinian media reported that an airstrike on central Gaza’s Nuseirat killed at least three people. Another airstrike on Khan Younis, in the Strip’s south, was said to have killed four aid workers.

Elsewhere in the Strip’s south, the IDF said soldiers with the 162nd Division had killed numerous button men in Rafah in festivities and by calling in airstrikes.

Troops from the IDF’s Commando Brigade have located weapons and a command room used by Hamas at UNRWA’s headquarters in Gaza City, the army said on Friday.

The troops had raided the compound earlier this week as part of a new operation carried out by the 99th Division in western and southern neighborhoods of Gaza City.

The UNRWA headquarters had not been in use in recent months. The IDF raided the compound earlier this year, discovering a major Hamas tunnel network that passed beneath it.

In the latest operation, the IDF said the commandos captured Hamas operatives who attempted to flee the UNRWA headquarters.

The commandos also battled with cells of button men who were holed up inside the facility, the army said.

Inside, the army said that Commando Brigade troops found a command room used to observe Israeli forces.

The troops were also said to find parts of a Hamas drone as well as dozens of weapons, including rockets, machine guns, mortars, bombs, grenades and bomb-dropping drones.

Israel has long accused UNRWA, the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
agency for Paleostinian refugees, of funneling money into Hamas’s coffers and letting the terror group use the agency’s facilities.

Israel has also accused the aid agency of employing people who are active members of Hamas and other Gaza-based terror groups. On Thursday, it was reported that Jerusalem had sent UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini a letter listing 108 employees of the agency who Israel says are Hamas or Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
operatives, demanding that they immediately be fired.

Previous Israeli allegations that UNRWA was employing murderous Moslems led several countries to defund the agency. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
the allegations have not been independently corroborated.

At a university building near the UNRWA headquarters, commandos located several weapons and an underground bomb-making lab, the army said on Friday.

Elsewhere in Gaza City, the IDF said troops with the 99th Division also located lathes used to manufacture weapons, along with cash belonging to terror groups. The troops also killed several button men, the army said.

The Gaza City raids came as the 98th Division on Wednesday wrapped up a two-week raid in the city’s eastern neighborhood of Shejaiya. The IDF said Hamas had regrouped in the neighborhood after previous offensives there.

During the operation, troops killed more than 150 terror operatives and demolished eight tunnels, the army said.

Israel had warned virtually all of Gaza City that it was now a "dangerous" combat zone.

The Hamas-run Gaza civil defense agency said on Friday that some 85% of Shejaiya’s buildings were destroyed in the latest operation there.

The agency said that it had recovered at least 100 bodies amid the rubble in Gaza City over the past week, as Israel has been withdrawing.

"There are bodies scattered in the streets, dismembered bodies, there are bodies of entire families, there are also bodies inside a home of an entire family that was completely burned," spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said on Friday in comments carried by Hamas media.

The terror group’s figures cannot be confirmed and do not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, Hamas media said four people working for the al-Khair Foundation, a Moslem non-profit based in Britannia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, were killed in an airstrike at an aid distribution center.

Hours later, the IDF named one of those killed in the strike as Hossam Mansour, who it said was a head of a department in Hamas’s internal security forces in the Gaza Strip.

According to the IDF, Mansour "took a significant and continuous part in the preservation and presence of Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip, while undermining Israel’s efforts in the region," and also served in the terror group’s military wing.

Mansour was a director of al-Khair, which the IDF charged transferred funds to terror groups in Gaza "under the guise of humanitarian activity."

Gaza talks explore alternative to Israeli troops on Gaza-Egypt border
Or at least the Egypt/Hamas side of the negotiation among themselves, anyway.
[GEO.TV] Israeli and Egyptian ceasefire negotiators are in talks about an electronic surveillance system along the border between Gaza and Egypt that could allow Israel to pull back its troops from the area if a ceasefire is agreed, according to two Egyptian sources and a third source familiar with the matter.
…none of whom are Israeli, or the article would have said so.
The question of whether Israeli forces stay on the border is one of the issues blocking a potential ceasefire deal because both group Hamas and Egypt, a mediator in the talks, are opposed to Israel keeping its forces there.

Israel is worried that if its troops leave the border zone, referred to by Israel as the Philadelphi corridor, Hamas's armed wing could smuggle in weapons and supplies from Egypt into Gaza via tunnels that would allow it to re-arm and again threaten Israel.

What the article would have noted had the reporters bothered to check with Israel:
Netanyahu’s office denies report Israel open to pullout from Gaza-Egypt border

[IsraelTimes] PMO insists IDF will remain on Philadelphi Corridor, after Reuters cites Egyptian sources that say installing surveillance equipment to prevent smuggling would lead to IDF withdrawal.

Drone attack on Gedaref government building leaves two injured
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A drone attack targeted the Gedaref state government headquarters on Thursday during a public gathering held in support of the Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese Armed Forces (SAF), who are currently engaged in conflict with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Two civilians were maimed in the attack, and authorities swiftly apprehended a suspect.

This drone attack is the second of its kind in Gedaref city. On April 9th, similar attacks struck the General Intelligence Service headquarters and other government buildings.

Military sources informed "Sudan Tribune" that two suicide drones attempted to target the event, attended by the state governor, security officials, and prominent community members, which aimed to bolster public support for the SAF’s war efforts and state security measures.

Preliminary investigations suggest the drones originated from the "Um Sharaba" area in Central Gedaref and flew over "Ad Al Tin" before targeting the government secretariat. The drones missed their intended target, with one crashing near a women’s and maternity hospital and the other in the Al Sadaqa neighbourhood, causing injuries to two civilians.

The Gedaref government expressed deep sorrow for the civilian casualties and condemned the RSF for the attacks, accusing them of undermining the safety and security of the region.

The government emphasized that the gathering aimed to unite the community in support of the armed forces, bolster their capabilities, and mobilize local resistance to safeguard the state.

Gedaref remains vulnerable to RSF incursions due to its proximity to the Al Jazirah and Sennar states, where the RSF has a presence. In response, authorities have heightened security measures, activated local resistance groups, and are preparing for potential emergencies.

Minnesota public school district abolishes pandemic-era 'equitable' grading
[JUSTTHENEWS] A Minnesota school district is finally giving its students back the freedom to fail.

Rochester Public Schools implemented a "no credit" grading policy in 2020, in hopes of helping failing students who were struggling with virtual learning. Now, four years later, the district has overturned their policy to increase student accountability.

"Deciding that basic levels of effort were not necessary — because it wasn't going to show up in their GPA and they never got the very recognizable symbol of an ’F’ — there was a subset of kids who were seeing that possibility as a reason not to meet some level of basic requirements," Superintendent Kent Pekel said Monday.

Pekel, superintendent since 2021, said the old policy didn’t provide a clear picture to parents of how their students were doing, and did not count toward their grade point average. With a return to giving F's, the district hopes to raise student standards.

This is not the first policy Pekel has repealed, seeking to reverse the course of former Superintendent Michael MuĂąoz.

The previous administration implemented the now-overturned "Grading for Learning," which allowed for unlimited quiz retakes and did not count participation or homework as a part of grading. For the 2023-24 school year, teachers can now base up to 30% of their grade on in-class and at-home participation.

"If you give kids no credit for being ready for a test, and instead they take a test and then study it because they can take any number of retakes; or you never give points for class participation or homework — especially in a pandemic when kids were disconnected from school and a lot of social norms broke down — you had a disincentive to engage in the practice side of learning," Pekel said.

#3  In the before condition, students had to pass the test at some point of the endless retakes. In the after condition, teachers can max out homework and class participation scores to pass students who haven’t learned the material. I predict that the after condition will be worse than the current no grade state.

Biden Advisors Threaten To "Beat The Shit Out Of" Staffers Who Don't Keep Quiet
Democracy dies under marching Biden Boots, yeow!
[ZH] It’s weird seeing the media pile on with the ’scoops’ about what exactly is going on behind the scenes with Biden’s panicking entourage, but this one takes it to another level.

CNN reports that a prominent Democrat has claimed Biden’s advisors have threatened White House staffers, saying they will "beat the shit out" of anyone who says anything about Biden’s health that runs contrary to their narrative.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper spoke with reporter MJ Lee in a bizarre segment in which she revealed the claims.

Lee noted "You know, we talked to a lot of folks who said, ’Of course we know that he has aged. Of course, we had seen some signs, especially over the last year, of his decline in terms of his physical stamina, his mental clarity.’ But that version of the president that we saw on the debate stage, they said was basically unrecognizable."

She continued, "what my colleagues and I have really reported on is there is a lot of anger and the blame that is being placed on the inner circle of advisers and family members around the president and what these people say is this really painstakingly choreographed and stage managed daily operations at the White House around the president that is set up, specifically designed to prevent the public from often seeing the president in these extended unscripted settings."

"And one thing that many of the folks that we spoke with that they are so furious about is this idea that when people have gone to these inner circle of advisers around the president to express some of these concerns, that they were not taken seriously or really brushed aside," Lee added.

Then came the kicker.

"This is what one top Democrat told me, they said, "Everyone who expresses any level of suspicion or contrary views, they call everyone, and they beat the shit out of them and say stay on message," Lee asserted.

Lee also claimed that the source said members of Biden’s family have also been warned not to step out of line.

The comments come after multiple reports, many in the New York Times, citing insiders who say Biden is completely out of it.

Tapper also cited yet another longtime Biden advisor, claiming he received the following text message:

The CNN anchor took some flak for suddenly and strangely being on board with the ’Biden’s brain is fried’ angle after years of ignoring it.

Gunmen Kidnap Nigerian Polytechnic Rector, Others, Demand N70million Ransom
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have kidnapped three staff members including the acting Rector of the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Dr. Emmanuel Barki.

According to a report, Barki, two other management staff of the institution and their driver were kidnapped on their way to Ugbokolo after an official assignment in Makurdi, the state capital, on Thursday.

It was gathered that the abductors kidnapped them along the Otukpo/Otukpa Road.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
one of the victims was released due to ill health.

A source close to the rector’s family who did not want to be mentioned as he was unauthorised to speak on the matter, told PUNCH that the kidnappers made contact with the family and demanded a N70million ransom.

The immediate past Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Benue State chapter, Augustine Leva visited the family of the acting rector on Friday as he prayed for the immediate release of the victims.

The former CAN chairman called on the state government to improve the security situation of the state so that residents of the state can heave a sigh of relief.

The front man for the state police command, Catherine Anene confirmed the abduction of the rector and two others and said that investigation was ongoing.

"Incident confirmed and investigation is ongoing," Anene said in a terse statement.

Also confirming the kidnap, the Security Adviser to the state governor, Joseph Har said he was not aware of any ransom demand.

Har said, "The incident happened but I’m not aware they demanded ransom but coppers are combining the bushes to rescue them."

In late May 2024, two female students of the Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture, Makurdi, were kidnapped by button men, as confirmed by the state police command.

Britain
UK Justice Minister, Shabana Plans Early Release Of Thousands Of Prisoners
[SAHARAREPORTERS] Shabana Mahmood,
...such a pretty, traditional English name…
the United Kingdom new Justice Minister, declared on Friday that thousands of prisoners would be released early from September to prevent the collapse of the prison system.

She emphasised that failure to act risked a total breakdown of law and order, noting that only 700 spaces remained for men, with jails operating at 99% capacity since 2023.

England and Wales currently hold the highest per capita prison population in Western Europe.

The early release initiative excludes violent mostly peaceful offenders with sentences exceeding four years, sex offenders, those convicted of domestic abuse, and life sentence inmates.

Urgent action was stressed by Charlie Taylor, chief inspector of prisons, who described the system as being at breaking point, AFP reports.

Mahmood, appointed shortly after Labour’s general election victory, warned vividly about the consequences of prison overcrowding. She painted a picture of potential chaos with dangerous individuals roaming unchecked due to lack of space.

In a speech at a prison, she highlighted the risk of criminals operating without fear of consequences, potentially leading to looting and widespread disorder.

The plans entail allowing prisoners eligible for automatic release after serving half their sentence to be freed sooner than usual, reducing their required time behind bars from 50% to 40% of their sentence.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: July 12, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22:29 The IAEA Board of Governors condemned the attack on the Okhmatdet children's hospital in Kiev on July 8 and blamed it on Russia. The corresponding resolution was approved at a closed meeting held at the request of Ukraine.

22:16 The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has denied and called absurd the statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova that Ukraine is allegedly "preparing to destroy the dams of the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Station and the Kaniv Reservoir." The department emphasized that the aggressor country will be held responsible for any criminal intent regarding the dams.

20:30 Ukraine expects to receive six F-16 aircraft from Western partners this summer and up to 20 aircraft by the end of the year, Bloomberg writes. According to the agency's sources, the process of sending the aircraft to Ukraine is currently complicated by issues with spare parts and a language barrier between Ukrainian pilots and their foreign instructors. Experts who are working on this issue are also concerned that Ukraine does not have enough runways, and those that do exist are vulnerable to Russian attacks.

19:43 One of the key issues at the NATO summit in Washington was the ability of the Russian army to rearm, which is becoming increasingly "surprising and alarming," Le Monde writes. Analysts note that sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union complicated the development of the Russian defense industry at the beginning of the war, but Moscow partially mitigated the restrictions with evasive tactics. Thus, since the beginning of the year, the Russian Federation has exceeded the pre-war level of production and stockpiles of cruise missiles. In 2023, the country produced six Iskander 9M723 missiles per month and had 50 units in reserve, and since January 2024, there are already 200 units in reserve. Russia's military efforts in the tank segment are equally significant.

19:39 Russians are mining the harbor near the Novorossiysk seaport, trying to protect their ships from Ukrainian sea drones, according to partisans from the Atesh organization. Thus, their agent discovered four large landing ships on the traverse of Mount Koldun near Cape Myskhako. According to the partisans, the ships are mining the entrance to the harbor with small anchor-type mines.

19:31 US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh reported. According to her, Austin stressed the importance of maintaining open channels of communication between Russia and the US. Singh also said that the US does not allow Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russian territory, but this could change.

19:26 The status of a combatant can be obtained on the Diia portal - the corresponding decision was made by the government, said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Mykhailo Fedorov. "This will make life easier for our defenders and reduce the burden on military units," he added.

19:22 Russians dropped an aerial bomb on Liman in Donetsk Oblast - four people were injured, reported OVA head Vadim Filashkin. The bomb fell in the private sector, damaging houses. In addition, the number of victims of the shelling of Mirnohrad has increased - currently three dead and ten injured are known.

18:27 The missiles and drones that Russia uses for daily attacks on Ukrainian settlements contain foreign components produced in at least 19 countries - China, South Korea, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Taiwan, the USA and others, said Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin.

17:58 On Saturday, July 13, measures to limit electricity consumption will be in effect throughout the day, Ukrenergo reported. From 6:00 to 19:00, regional power companies will apply two stages of shutdowns simultaneously, and three stages at other times.

17:10 Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Ukraine is allegedly preparing to "destroy the dams of the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Station and the Kanev Reservoir" with the aim of blaming Moscow for this.

16:54 The Russian army attacked Berislav in the Kherson region from a drone, one person was killed, the OVA reported. In addition, a resident of Antonovka, who was injured the day before as a result of Russian shelling, was hospitalized.

15:38 Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Ryabkov stated that the experience of the war in Ukraine showed that the Russian nuclear doctrine "contains overly general formulations."

15:07 Luxembourg and Denmark have transferred network equipment and auxiliary licenses worth more than 2 million euros to Ukraine as part of the IT coalition, the Ministry of Defense reported. The department noted that this equipment will increase the capacity of data processing centers and cyber defense of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

14:21 In the village of Staritsa in the Vovchansk community of the Kharkiv region, six people were blown up by a tripwire left behind by Russian soldiers, the regional prosecutor's office reported. The victims were walking through a forest belt during the evacuation when they were blown up by the tripwire. Three of them have an acute stress reaction, the rest have blast injuries.

13:46 Two buildings of Okhmatdet cannot be restored after the Russian missile strike, Health Minister Viktor Lyashko said. According to him, a new building will be built, including through donations, of which 800 million hryvnias have already been collected. Today, the Blood Center was launched in the children's hospital, and the return of cancer patients to the hospital is next in line. The oncohematology laboratory and the radiology department have already been launched.

13:19 Orban was not invited to the first plenary session of the new European Parliament, despite the fact that Hungary currently holds the presidency of the Council of the EU. Usually, the leader of the country beginning a six-month presidency of the Council addresses the parliament. MEP Clara de Melo explained that Orban was not invited because "he does not respect the role and rules of the European Union."

13:05 Russians are preparing for possible provocations along the state border in the Kharkiv region and are trying to regroup their units, said OSGV Khortitsa spokesman Nazar Voloshin.

11:56 On the evening of July 11, Russian troops fired at the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson from a tank, the National Police reported. A multi-story building and three private houses were damaged. After police, the State Emergency Service, and utility services arrived at the scene, the Russians struck them with drones. Two police officers, a rescuer, an employee of the press service of the Kherson OVA, and one civilian were injured.

11:04 Canada is allocating about $285 million to train Ukrainian pilots and service F-16s, the country's government reported.

10:45 Scholz rejected Zelensky's calls to lift all restrictions on the use of Western weapons: "Nobody is going to change the existing requirements and guidelines - and for good reason. Our task is to provide maximum support to Ukraine, but not to allow the war to escalate into a war between Russia and NATO. And this requires wisdom, clarity and firmness."

10:07 The British Ministry of Defence stated that London did not give permission to fire Storm Shadow missiles at Russian territory, The Telegraph writes. The department clarified that Ukraine has the right to strike its occupied territories, but not at Russian territory, because otherwise Britain would be drawn into the Russian-Ukrainian war.

08:46 The number of victims as a result of yesterday's Russian shelling of the urban settlement of Bely Kolodets in the Chuguevsky district of the Kharkiv region has increased to nine, three people have died, reported the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

08:43 Biden did not rule out the possibility of negotiations with Putin if he "changes his behavior": "I don't have any compelling reasons to talk, to discuss anything with Putin. Just as he, in general, is not ready to make any changes in his behavior. But there are no world leaders with whom I am not ready to communicate and deal. I understand your general question. Is Putin ready for dialogue? I am ready, but not ready if he does not change his behavior. I am ready to talk to anyone, but I do not see any inclination on Putin's part to do so." Biden also said that "there is no point in striking at Moscow and the Kremlin."

08:35 In Donetsk Oblast, four people were killed as a result of Russian shelling on July 11: in Mirnohrad, Raigorodka, Seversk and Novoselivka Pervaya. Another 21 people in the region were injured in the past 24 hours, said OVA head Vadim Filashkin.

08:32 In the Kherson region, seven people were injured as a result of Russian shelling over the past day, OVA head Oleksandr Prokudin reported. A critical infrastructure facility, a gas pipeline, a farm and a utility company, two multi-story buildings and ten private homes were damaged.

08:23 On the evening of July 11, Russia attacked Ukraine with five Kh-101 cruise missiles from strategic aviation aircraft, and during the night - with 19 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs, the Air Force reported. The main direction of the attack was Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytsky region, where a military airfield is located.

All missiles were shot down - in the Khmelnytsky, Sumy and Cherkasy regions. Also, the air defense shot down 11 "shahids" and unidentified drones in the Nikolaev, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsky, Kherson and Sumy regions. The remaining eight drones were lost. Probably, the enemy is using simulators of attack UAVs to overload the Ukrainian air defense, the Air Force noted.

07:44 Orban said he met with Trump in the US: "Peace Mission 5.0. It was an honor to visit President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago today. We discussed ways to achieve peace. The good news of the day: he is going to solve this problem." Trump thanked Orban: "Thank you, Viktor. There must be peace, and as soon as possible. Too many people have died in a war that should never have happened."

07:32 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of July 12:

  • personnel - about 556,650 (+1030) people,

  • tanks - 8191 (+9),

  • combat armored vehicles - 15,755 (+23),

  • artillery systems - 15,158 (+48),

  • MLRS - 1119 (+0),

  • air defense systems - 888 (+2),

  • aircraft - 361 (+0),

  • helicopters - 326 (+0),

  • Operational-tactical level UAVs - 12,035 (+26),

  • cruise missiles - 2397 (+5),

  • ships/boats - 28 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 20,409 (+84),

  • special equipment - 2543 (+8).

07:13 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine. The document emphasizes the need for demilitarization and deoccupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

04:51 Biden said the Ukraine Compact unites allied states in a "single comprehensive security architecture." He said the document is at the center of a "bridge" on Ukraine's path to NATO: "This is the path to future membership. This treaty is at the center of that bridge. We are united against Putin in this senseless and brutal war."

The US President noted that the treaty would help protect Ukraine, in particular, in the long term. As for the short term, Biden said, "we will provide Ukraine with ammunition, weapons, training to counter Russian aggression." "In the medium term, we will help build an army to protect Ukraine and deter new aggression. So that if Putin decides to do it again, all countries will support it," Biden explained.

02:23 The US is calling on all NATO allies to provide Ukraine with all possible air defense systems that they can share. "Our position is let's provide air defense to Ukraine, that's the most effective way to protect the skies. That's why we've called on every ally - provide any system that you can provide," said White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

01:20 The European Union and 21 other countries signed the Ukraine Compact during the NATO summit, which will coordinate and accelerate their defense assistance to Ukraine, the European Commission reported. The agreement was signed by the leaders of the United States, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, together with the President of the European Union, the President of the European Commission and the President of Ukraine

The document provides for the implementation of the goals set out in Ukraine's bilateral agreements. The signatories undertake to support Ukraine in defense by providing military equipment, finances, and training for Ukrainian troops. In addition, the agreement provides for the acceleration of assistance in the development of the future Defense Forces of Ukraine until 2027, with the prospect of an extension in the 2030s. To this end, the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine will convene at ministerial level every six months to review and approve the development roadmap. In the event of a new Russian attack on Ukraine after the end of the current war, the signatory countries are obliged to quickly meet at the highest level to determine further steps to support Ukraine.

00:49 The island state of Mauritius signed the communiquĂŠ of the first Peace Summit, Zelensky said.

An Israeli official involved in the negotiations told Axios that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn, has toughened Israel’s demands for a deal as a result of this intelligence, explaining that the premier "is trying to use Hamas’s weakness to get as much as he can out of the negotiations."

"But there is a risk that he will go too far and the negotiations collapse," the official said, adding that the premier wants a deal, but is willing to play hardball.

are working to close a deal that would include the release of hostages seized by Hamas during its rampage in southern Israeli communities on October 7, along with an end to the war in Gaza that was triggered by the devastating attack.

A senior American official and several others from Israel told Axios that US and Israeli intelligence had assessed that pressure from Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza and the international community has pushed Hamas closer to agreeing to a deal.

The officials said that some senior Hamas commanders in Gaza have communicated to the Hamas politicianship based in Doha, Qatar, that the situation in Gaza is urgent and that they want — and need — a ceasefire, Israel and US officials said.

A Washington Post report on Wednesday cited a US official as saying that Hamas is in "rough shape," running out of ammunition and supplies. That official said the terror group, the de facto regime in Gaza, is facing growing discontent from civilians who are more vocally demanding a ceasefire.

PM’S TOUGHENED TERMS
Netanyahu laid out his position on Thursday as Israeli negotiators were departing to Cairo for further mediated deliberations on a hostage-for-ceasefire deal with Hamas. The government is facing growing public pressure to reach a hostage release deal after over nine months of war.

The prime minister specified the four non-negotiable conditions for a deal which he first set out on Sunday, calling them "iron principles."

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
he toughened two of those four previously declared non-negotiable terms.

Any deal, he said Thursday, "must allow Israel to resume fighting until all the goals of the war are achieved." It must also prevent weapons from being smuggled into Gaza from Egypt, "primarily by means of Israeli control of the Philadelphi Corridor and the Rafah Crossing," he went on, adding the references to the area that runs along the Gaza-Egypt border, and the Rafah border crossing there, a day after Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had offered leeway as regards to the border corridor.

Furthermore, said Netanyahu on Thursday, any deal must prevent "the return of armed terrorists, and the entry of weapons, to the north of the Strip." And finally, he said, any deal must, "already in the first stage of the framework, maximize the number of living hostages that will be freed." He had not specified the "first stage" when declaring this demand on Sunday.

He said he was sure that if Israel stands behind these conditions, "we’ll achieve a deal that will free our hostages and also ensure that we will continue to fight until all aims are achieved. The way to free our hostages is to continue to pressure Hamas with all our strength."

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
Netanyahu’s renewed demand for any Gaza truce deal to prevent the return of weapons and armed holy warriors to the Strip’s north violates prior agreements with mediators and will complicate or even thwart negotiations, according to unnamed senior security sources cited by Channel 12 news.

The network cited sources familiar with the talks as saying that in its May 27 response to mediators, Israel gave up its initial demand to maintain control of the so-called Netzarim Corridor, which currently splits the Strip in two and prevents the return of button men to the northern part.

"The demand to monitor everyone moving north is a retraction of our concession on the matter," one source is quoted as saying. "The IDF will know how to deal with the situation even if armed fighters return to the north, and we can find a solution with the Americans.

"This is a demand that will prevent a deal," the source said. "In the best case, it is an obstacle that will make the continuation [of talks] more difficult, and in the worst case, it is aimed as a spoke in the negotiations’ wheel and at eliminating the ability to reach a deal.

"We are in a crucial two days for the deal to succeed. It’s either now or in a very long time, perhaps never. Prime Minister Netanyahu added demands that deviate from the agreements with the mediators."

Two Israeli officials told Axios that there had been progress regarding security on the Egypt-Gaza border. Israel is demanding measures to prevent Hamas from digging smuggling tunnels under the boundary to bring weapons into Gaza. The Israel Defense Forces, which captured the area in May, says it has found over 20 smuggling tunnels under the border.

The Israeli officials told the outlet that Egypt has agreed to construct an underground wall to block tunnels and that the US will fund its construction. As part of the arrangement, Israel is also asking for access to sensors and cameras that are to be installed on the Egyptian side of the border. It is unclear if those demands will be met, the report said.

Israel has a similar subterranean barrier along its border with Gaza, intended to prevent Hamas from digging attack tunnels as it has done in the past.

Axios cited Israeli officials as saying the current ceasefire proposal allows for unarmed, displaced Paleostinians to return to northern Gaza, but doesn’t specify how that will be achieved while preventing Hamas from relocating fighters and weapons as well.

Israeli, Egyptian, Qatari and US mediators are striving to find a mechanism that would enable that, officials said.

BARNEA SAID TO BACK NETANYAHU
Amid the ramped-up hostage deal negotiations in Qatar and Cairo, Mossad chief David Barnea defended Netanyahu’s "non-negotiable" conditions for a deal, and told a security cabinet meeting that without them, Israel would not win its war against Hamas, according to the Ynet news outlet.

Ynet said that Barnea told the meeting’s attendees that "without the clauses that Prime Minister Netanyahu insists on, we will not be able to renew the war [after the deal], and without it, we will not win and we will not return all of the hostages.

"This is what is needed for the good of the State of Israel," Barnea added.

Barnea addressed the security cabinet upon his return to Israel from negotiations in Qatar. Following Barnea’s return, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar departed Israel for Cairo to continue negotiations there.

According to Haaretz, Barnea told the security cabinet that insisting Israel can resume fighting in the terms of the deal will give the country leverage to prevent Hamas from changing the identities of the hostages it intends to release.

The clause will also ensure that the deal doesn’t fall apart before reaching the second phase, Haaretz added, citing unnamed sources familiar with the contents of the security cabinet meeting.

The Israeli-drafted outline for a hostage deal and truce in Gaza, publicized by US President Biden at the end of May, proposed a phased deal that would include a "full and complete" six-week ceasefire that would see the release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly, and the maimed, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Paleostinian security prisoners.

During these 42 days, Israeli forces would also withdraw from densely populated areas of Gaza and allow the return of displaced people to their homes in northern Gaza.

Over that period, Hamas, Israel and mediators would also negotiate the terms of the second phase that could see the release of the remaining male hostages, both civilians and soldiers. In return, Israel would free additional Paleostinian security prisoners and detainees. The third phase would see the return of any remaining hostages, including bodies of dead captives, and the start of a years-long reconstruction project.

The sides have been reported to differ on core aspects of the transition from the halt in fighting in the first stage to a potential permanent ceasefire. Israel is demanding "an exit point" between the two stages, in line with Netanyahu’s insistence that the war will not end until Hamas is destroyed. Hamas, by contrast, wants the initial ceasefire maintained for as long as is needed until negotiations are finalized on a permanent ceasefire and an end to the war, which Jerusalem says could enable Hamas to drag out the talks indefinitely.

Negotiations mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the US have so far failed to secure a truce in Gaza and release of captives there, since a weeklong ceasefire in November saw Hamas free 105 hostages in return for 240 Paleostinian prisoners.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
talks progressed after Hamas recently said it dropped its demand that the framework include an upfront commitment from Israel to end the war during the first phase — though the terror group is still demanding a commitment to that effect from mediators.

As part of a hostage deal, Israel would be expected to release hundreds of Paleostinian security convicts it has imprisoned, including those involved in deadly terror attacks. Haaretz cited Paleostinian sources familiar with the talks as saying that Israel has vetoed the release of 15 security prisoners that Hamas is demanding be set free as they have "significant symbolism."

Mediators are seeking to solve the issue, possibly with release to exile for the prisoners, or, for those who are residents of the West Bank, transfer to the Gaza Strip. The sources noted to Haaretz that at the start of the negotiations Israel had vetoed a far higher number of prisoners, but that has dropped as talks progressed.

At a news conference on Thursday, Biden said Israel and Hamas had agreed on the framework for a deal but that there were still gaps to close. He also said "It’s time to end this war," but added: "It doesn’t mean walk away from going after [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar and Hamas."

The war in Gaza erupted after Hamas’s October 7 massacre, which saw some 3,000 holy warriors burst across the border into Israel by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing 251 hostages, mostly civilians, many amid acts of brutality and sexual assault. Israel responded with a military offensive to destroy Hamas, topple its Gaza regime, and free the hostages.

It is believed that 116 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza — not all of them alive — after 105 civilians were released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released prior to that.

Seven hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies of 19 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military.

The IDF has confirmed the deaths of 42 of those still held by Hamas, citing new intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza. One more person has been listed as missing since October 7, and their fate is still unknown.

Hamas has also been holding two Israeli civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who were killed in 2014.

Tajikistan native arrested for plotting attack on temple in Maykop
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
More on this story from yesterday.
[KavkazUzel] The Maykop City Court has arrested a native of Tajikistan, Idris Idibekov, for two months in connection with the case of preparing an attack on a church.
Yesterday he was described merely as from one of the countries of the Central Asian region, today we have a name and nation.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", a native of one of the Central Asian countries  was preparing an attack on an Orthodox church in Maikop and the murder of clergy and security guards. An incendiary mixture and a flag of a terrorist organization were confiscated from the detainee, the FSB reported. In a video recording published by the agency, during interrogation, he said that, having watched videos of supporters of the "Islamic State"*, he planned to stab a security guard and set the building on fire.
Yesterday we guessed that. Today it is confirmed.
The Maykop City Court has arrested Idris Idibekov, a native of Tajikistan, accused of attempting a terrorist attack on the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Maykop, Interfax reported today.

"To assign Idibekov a preventive measure in the form of detention for two months, until September 10, 2024 inclusive," the agency quoted the judge as saying.

The judge emphasized that the accused, a native of Dushanbe, has dual citizenship - Russian and Tajik.

As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, on June 23, Trinity Day, which is one of the main Christian holidays, militants attacked synagogues and an Orthodox church in Derbent and Makhachkala. On June 23, the American Institute for the Study of War stated that  the cell  "Vilayat Kavkaz"*, a division of the "Islamic State"*, was behind the attacks.

FTC Study Reveals Widespread Use of 'Dark Patterns' in Websites and Apps
[Breitbart] Dark patterns are subtle design elements intentionally implemented to influence user behavior, often leading consumers to make decisions they might not have made otherwise. These manipulative techniques can range from making it difficult to cancel subscriptions to pushing users towards more expensive options through visual trickery.

One of the most prevalent dark patterns identified in the study was "sneaking," a tactic used by 81 percent of the analyzed platforms. This technique involves the inability to disable automatic subscription renewals during the initial sign-up or purchase process. Furthermore, 70 percent of the examined services failed to provide clear information on how to cancel subscriptions, while 67 percent neglected to specify the deadline for cancellation to avoid additional charges.

Another common dark pattern uncovered in the study was "obstruction," which involves making certain actions, such as canceling a subscription or bypassing a free trial offer, unnecessarily complicated or tedious for users. This tactic often manifests in the form of hidden or grayed-out options, making it challenging for consumers to opt out of services they no longer wish to use.

Europe
Nearly Half Of German Welfare Payments Go To Foreign Migrants
[ZeroHedge] The argument that mass migration is needed to support GDP levels and pay for pensions took another blow when it was revealed 47.3% of welfare recipients in Germany are foreign migrants.

According to newly released government statistics, nearly half of the 5.49 million people in Germany on benefits are foreign migrants, four percentage points higher than in 2022.

€42.6 billion euros is now being paid out in welfare compared to to €36.6 billion in 2022.

“In addition, there was another record €6.3 billion worth of administration costs for the citizen’s benefit program, which is €300 million more than 2022, according to government data obtained by AfD MP Rene Springer after a parliamentary request,” reports Remix News.

“If this administrative money is added, then total welfare costs equaled €48.9 billion. Bild notes this figure is 14.8 percent higher than in 2023, 18.4 percent higher compared to 2020, and 23 percent higher compared to 2015.”

2.6 million foreign migrants are now citizen’s allowance recipients, a rise of 368,000 on the previous year, which equates to 16.5 per cent.

Right-wing party AfD points out that the 47.3% figure also doesn’t include German citizens from a migration background, since once they obtain citizenship they are considered as German as someone who was born in the country.

“Which country in the world allows itself to be exploited in this manner?” asked the party in statement.

“The percentage of people receiving benefits has more than doubled compared to 2010 (19.6 percent).”

DHK, the largest business association in Germany, accuse the government of worsening the country’s economic position and exacerbating unemployment.

“The data pokes a major hole in the claims that newcomers will help pay for German pensions and help fill demand from German industry, which is desperately searching for skilled workers,” writes John Cody.

“In fact, the data shows that the German state spent €48.2 billion on migrants, including social housing, medical costs, education, integration courses, and other expenses.”

As we previously highlighted, statistics also show that around 6 out of 10 violent crimes in Germany are committed by foreign migrants.

CNN quietly disbands ‘Race and Equality' team as part of layoffs
[NY Post] CNN

quietly disbanded its "Race and Equality" team of reporters as part of a major restructuring that included firing 100 staffers this week, according to a report.

One of the journalists was fired while the other two were reassigned to other departments, according to a newsletter written by black journalist Phil Lewis.

A network spokesperson first claimed the Race and Equality team was not disbanded before admitting to Lewis that it will longer exist as a mission-oriented unit.

"For all intents and purposes, the team is not a team anymore," the spokesperson said.

"They’re assigned to different areas so that [their] perspective and work is brought into all of our types of programming. It’s not a unit in the way it was before, but [race and equality] is very much still their focus."

IDF Discovers Hamas, Islamic Jihad Command Center at UNRWA HQ
[Breitbart] The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) discovered a command center this week used by Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists within the Gaza City headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Israel has long insisted that UNRWA supports terrorism in general, and maintains that several UNRWA employees participated directly in the October 7 terror attack. Terrorists have repeatedly used UNRWA facilities to launch attacks and store weapons.

The IDF said in a statement:

Following intelligence indicating that Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists and infrastructure were embedded inside the UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza City, IDF troops began a counterterrorism operation in the area earlier this week. At the start of the operation, the IDF opened a defined corridor to enable civilians to evacuate from the area.

During the operation, the Commando Brigade Combat Team under the command of the 99th Division conducted a targeted raid on a Hamas combat complex embedded inside a compound previously used by UNRWA. With the guidance of the Intelligence Directorate (J2), Maglan and Egoz special forces raided the compound and apprehended terrorists who tried to escape from the area.

During the activity, the troops engaged in close-quarters combat with terrorist cells that had fortified themselves inside the UNRWA compound and located parts for assembling a UAV, war rooms used for surveillance operations and large quantities of weapons, including tactical drones, rockets, machine guns, mortars, explosives and grenades.

Next to the terror compound raided by the troops, the IDF previously exposed and operated against an underground tunnel route and significant asset of Hamas’ military intelligence that passed under the building that served as UNRWA’s Headquarters in the Gaza Strip.

In additional scans carried out by the troops during the current operations in the area, the troops located an underground laboratory for the manufacturing of explosives and weapons inside a university building.

In February, the IDF revealed that it had found a Hamas command center underneath Shifa Hospital. Several countries suspended funding for UNRWA after reports emerged of UNRWA participating in the October 7 attack; but several have since restored it. Funding from the U.S. for UNRWA remains on hold; President Joe Biden initially restored $700 million in funding to UNRWA that had been cut by President Donald Trump out of terror concerns.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Alec Baldwin Skates
[Just the News] A New Mexico judge shockingly dismissed Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter case on Friday, after agreeing that prosecutors withheld crucial evidence.

First Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer agreed with Baldwin's defense attorneys, who claimed the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office took live rounds of ammunition from the set as evidence but did not record them properly in the case file or reveal their existence to the actor’s defense team.

"The sanction of dismissal is the only warranted remedy," Sommer said, according to NBC News.

#7  I'm not fan of Baldwin. I also feel the minute you pick up a real gun you are fully responsible for it. #12  I really hate Baldwin and his ilk, but it sounds like the DA created this mess willfully. Here is CTH summation that kind of gets to that:

"Apparently, the prosecution received a box of live ammunition from a witness. The ammunition was from the same lot used on the set of Rust. That evidence strongly suggested the live ammunition that made its way on to the set came from the prop supplier, rather than from the film’s armorer.

The question has always been, how did live ammunition get into the gun on the set? The prosecution team hid the evidence and never told the defense team, a clear Brady violation."

PTI to emerge as largest party in National Assembly after SC ruling on reserved seats
[GEO.TV] Enjoying a D-Day after the Supreme Court's verdict in the reserved seats case earlier today (Friday), the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) is expected to emerge as the largest party in the National Assembly as the number of Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
-led party is likely to soar to 109.

In an unexpected legal victory for the main opposition party, the top court of the country ruled that the party of incarcerated Imran Khan is eligible for the allocation of reserved seats.

The decision has not only paved the way for the PTI's return to parliament, which was kicked out of the February 8 polls owing to the ECP's December 2023 ruling but has also increased the pressure on the coalition alliance by changing the composition of the National Assembly.

With the majority seats of the PTI in the lower house of the legislature, the ruling coalition led by Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) will continue to occupy the simple majority with the strength of 209 members. The PML-N has a total of 108 members.

The opposition alliance in the National Assembly will surge to a strength of 120 after the PTI gains 23 reserved seats. Currently, the combined opposition, including the PTI, has 97 members. At present, the PTI has 86 members in the lower house, with 84 on board with the Suni Ittehad Council (SIC) and two independents — Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub Khan.

Additionally, there are 68 members of the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) in the NA and the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
-Fazl (JUI-F) has eight members while BNP-Mengal, MWM and PkMAP have one each in the lower house.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the gondola was dangling by a single thread of rope.

Jack! Cynthia cried. I just realized I'm afraid of heights! I don't even like high heels!...

the MQM-P has 21 members in the National Assembly and a minority seat remains suspended.

Islamabad High Court rules to provide all facilities to Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi in jail
[GEO.TV] The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed the government to ensure the safety and health of the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) founder Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who isn't your heaviest-duty thinker, maybe not even among the top five...
and his spouse Bushra Bibi, who are currently serving time in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.

"The federal government must ensure compliance with the guidelines provided by the court," the decision stated. The ruling mandates that all entitled facilities be provided to the former first couple while in jail.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq issued a written verdict, outlining a number of key directives — disposing of a petition filed by Bushra Bibi regarding the provision of facilities and protection of basic rights for the incarcerated PTI founder.

The former prime minister, who was booted out of power via a no-trust motion in April 2022, is up to his neck in a legal quagmire facing charges ranging from corruption to terrorism since losing the premiership.

He has been behind bars since August last year after he was sentenced in the Toshakhana case and subsequently in other cases too ahead of the February 8 elections.

Khan was granted relief in the other cases, including the £190 million reference and Toshakhana, and was also acquitted in the high-profile cipher case in July.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the former first couple remains behind bars due to the conviction in the iddat (un-Islamic nikah) case only.

The IHC decision spotlights that the petition was filed at a time when both the PTI founder and [his wife] Bushra are serving a sentence in prison.

The issues raised by the petition are not limited to the PTI founder but are of a general nature, the court noted.

"It is incorrect to say that a prisoner has no rights," the decision asserted. "Imprisonment does not mean inhumane treatment. The purpose of imprisonment is the reformation of the prisoner without subjecting them to any physical or mental stress.

"The court has referred to the guidelines provided in the case of Khalid Hussain vs Ministry of Human Rights," the decision said, adding, "The federal government is obligated to enforce these guidelines in all prisons, especially Adiala Jail."

The court observed that the federal government had so far failed to ensure the same. The decision stressed the need for immediate compliance with the provided guidelines in all jails across the country.

Artillery and air strikes in El Fasher as residents flee westward
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) exchanged artillery and air strikes in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Friday, as residents continued to flee the city.

Since May, El Fasher, the largest city in the Darfur region, has witnessed fierce battles between the SAF, its allied groups, and the RSF. These festivities have resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians, displaced thousands, and caused significant damage to infrastructure.

According to local sources, SAF warplanes targeted RSF positions south, east, and north of El Fasher early Friday morning. The RSF responded with heavy artillery fire on various locations within the city.

Sporadic festivities involving light and heavy weapons between the SAF, its allied forces, and the RSF had already occurred in El Fasher around midnight on Thursday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
the escalating military operations have triggered a mass exodus from El Fasher, with humanitarian activists reporting that an estimated 3,000 residents have fled the city within the past few hours, seeking refuge in the Sullum area, approximately 20 kilometres to the west.

Coalition drone and Russian Aerospace Forces plane nearly collide in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The unmanned lethal MQ-9 Reaper of the so-called international coalition led by the United States flew dangerously close to the Su-35 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syrian airspace, the deputy head of the Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides (CROS) in Syria, Captain First Rank Oleg Ignasyuk, told journalists on July 12.

It happened in the skies over the province of Homs. The Russian fighter was carrying out a scheduled flight.

“In the area of the settlement of Es-Sukhna in the province of Homs, a dangerous approach occurred between an MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle of the “coalition” and a Su-35 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which was carrying out a scheduled flight in the airspace of Syria,” Ignasyuk said during a briefing.

According to the deputy head of the Center for the Prevention of Cruelty to the Air and Space Industry, the pilot of the Russian combat aircraft demonstrated high professionalism and promptly took all necessary measures to prevent a collision with the UAV.

Ignasyuk also reported that in the Et-Tanf area, observers identified 12 violations over the past 24 hours, committed by a pair of F-15 fighters, a pair of Rafale fighters, two pairs of Typhoon fighters and two pairs of A-10 attack aircraft of the Western "coalition". The Center for the Prevention and Control of Violence emphasized that such actions continue to create risks of aviation accidents.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, incidents involving approaching "coalition" drones have already occurred in Syria. On June 21, it became known that in the province of Homs, a pilot of a Russian Aerospace Forces Su-35 fighter was able to prevent a collision with three MQ-9 Reapers. On June 26, a "coalition" MQ-9 Reaper drone flew dangerously close to a Russian Su-34 fighter, which was making a scheduled flight.

On July 4, the Center for Strategic and Inter-Aircraft Monitoring reported that in the skies over Homs province, a Typhoon fighter jet from the coalition and an An-30 aircraft from the Russian Armed Forces almost collided due to a dangerous approach.

Biden Can't Drop Out and Transfer $100 Million Before He's Officially the Nominee
[Breitbart] An op-ed in the Wall Street Journal has thrown cold water on the idea that President Joe Biden will drop out of the presidential race before formally becoming his party’s nominee by the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.

The reason: he cannot hand over the $100 million in his campaign committee’s accounts to Vice President Kamala Harris or any other candidate until he formally becomes the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

Election lawyer Charlie Spies wrote this week:

In short: Before the nomination officially goes to Mr. Biden, his campaign is limited to donating $2,000 to the Democratic nominee, whether that new standard bearer is Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer or Ms. Harris.

…

In August 2023 the Biden for President campaign amended its FEC Form 1 to assert on Line 5 that the committee was the principal campaign committee for both Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris. At the time nobody had reason to question that maneuver, and if at the Democratic convention Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris emerge as their party’s nominees, then there won’t be a need to challenge the premature designation. If, however, Mr. Biden were to drop out before being nominated and attempt an unprecedented and possibly illegal unlimited transfer of funds to Ms. Harris, the courts would likely interpret the plain language of the statute to prohibit such a contribution.

…

If President Biden is committed to passing the torch to his vice president, and wants to be able to seed her campaign with the current Biden for President campaign war chest, he’ll first have to become his party’s legal nominee. After shuffling through the Democratic National Committee’s planned roll call vote he’d be free to drop out. Ms. Harris could seamlessly slip into the driver’s seat. That’s a risky strategy, as it requires maintaining an obvious fiction under intense public scrutiny for another six weeks.

The problem with Biden’s current status as the “presumptive” nominee — with no legal status — may be part of the motivation for Democrats to pursue an early, “virtual” nomination prior to the convention in Chicago.

#1  Early voting was something that has screwed up the timing for their swapping scheme. They waited too long even though they were aware of Joe’s feeble state throughout. BTW they championed early voting, which will keep Harris Whatever off the ballot in several states that are critical to their hopes of maintaining their hold on the White House. In this great tossed salad of failure, we are supposed to believe that Obama is a political genius.

#2  ...Just for the sake of discussion...I kinda feel that the rules governing when someone could get on a ballot are a real problem, even when we're looking at a far more benign situation.

My thinking is that with electronic voting machines, changing a candidate shouldn't be more than a day or so issue, and even if they're using paper ballots then not more than a week - 10 days should be needed. Yes, it would cost money, and if it's not an issue of illness, death, or other Act-of-God, then bill the respective national parties - that would help keep these events to a minimum.

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Moment packed Boeing 777 scrapes tail along Italian runway
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] … hundreds of yards in cloud of smoke before hero pilots avert disaster that could have 'killed everyone on board'.

A Boeing 777 jet packed with passengers scraped its tail hundreds of metres along an Italian runway.

The 777 jet, part of the Chilean airline Latam's fleet, was seen dragging its tail along the runway of Milan Malpensa Airport, in northern Italy, on Tuesday.

Video footage showed the plane, which can carry more than 500 passengers at a time, unable to lift off as smoke and debris fly behind it during the failed take-off.

Corriere reported that passengers also saw sparks come off the plane, which was set to fly to Sao Paulo in Brazil, as it dragged itself across the runway.

The pilot was someone able to get the plane off the ground, but was asked to land it for an immediate inspection.

Data from FlightRadar shows the plane, which flew under the code LA8073, looped around the airport nine times before landing again.

The plane is currently grounded at Milan Malpensa, local media reported.

Italian authorities are still investigating the incident, and are in communication with 'investigative authorities of Brazil and the US.'

Boeing has been forced under a harsh limelight for a string of serious failures. Earlier this week, the company announced it plans to plead guilty to fraud in connection with approval of its 737 Max before two of the planes crashed, killing 346 people off the coast of Indonesia and in Ethiopia.

The American aerospace giant has apparently made the calculation that admitting to a crime is better than fighting the charge and enduring a long public trial.

In a legal filing late Sunday - minutes before a midnight deadline - the Justice Department disclosed the agreement and said the fraud charge was 'the most serious readily provable offense' it could bring against Boeing.

Prosecutors say Boeing will pay another $243.6million fine, matching a fine it paid in 2021 for the same crime.
Less than Trump was fined for "bookkeeping error"
The Justice Department says a conviction for fraud will hold Boeing accountable for 'misstatements' it made to regulators who certified the 737 Max in 2017.

The crashes took place less than five months apart in 2018 and 2019.

The company still faces investigations into the blowout of a panel from an Alaska Airlines Max plane in January, increased oversight by the Federal Aviation Administration, and accusations from current and former employees about poor workmanship and retaliation against whistleblowers.

Boeing's plea deal would bring the total to $487.2million, which the Justice Department says is the legal maximum for the fraud charge.

The deal also requires the company to invest at least $455million to improve safety.

It will be on court-supervised probation for three years, and the Justice Department will name an independent monitor to oversee Boeing's compliance with terms of the plea agreement.

Boeing's board of directors will also be required to meet with families of the victims.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Project [2025] Total Control: Everything Is A Weapon When Totalitarianism Is Normalized
[ZH] The U.S. government is working to re-shape the country in the image of a totalitarian state.

This has remained true over the past 50-plus years no matter which political party held office.

This will remain true no matter who wins the 2024 presidential election.

In the midst of the partisan furor over Project 2025, a 920-page roadmap for how to re-fashion the government to favor so-called conservative causes, both the Right and the Left have proven themselves woefully naive about the dangers posed by the power-hungry Deep State.

Yet we must never lose sight of the fact that both the Right and the Left and their various operatives are extensions of the Deep State, which continues to wage psychological warfare on the American people.

Psychological warfare, according to the Rand Corporation, “involves the planned use of propaganda and other psychological operations to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and behavior of opposition groups.”

For years now, the government has been bombarding the citizenry with propaganda campaigns and psychological operations aimed at keeping us compliant, easily controlled and supportive of the government’s various efforts abroad and domestically.

The government is so confident in its Orwellian powers of manipulation that it’s taken to bragging about them. For example, in 2022, the U.S. Army’s 4th Psychological Operations Group, the branch of the military responsible for psychological warfare, released a recruiting video that touts its efforts to pull the strings, turn everything they touch into a weapon, be everywhere, deceive, persuade, change, influence, and inspire.

“Have you ever wondered who’s pulling the strings?” the psyops video posits. “Anything we touch is a weapon. We can deceive, persuade, change, influence, inspire. We come in many forms. We are everywhere.”

This is the danger that lurks in plain sight.

Of the many weapons in the government’s vast arsenal, psychological warfare may be the most devastating in terms of the long-term consequences.

As the military journal Task and Purpose explains, “Psychological warfare is all about influencing governments, people of power, and everyday citizens.”

Mind you, these psyops (psychological operations) campaigns aren’t only aimed at foreign enemies. The government has made clear in word and deed that “we the people” are domestic enemies to be targeted, tracked, manipulated, micromanaged, surveilled, viewed as suspects, and treated as if our fundamental rights are mere privileges that can be easily discarded.

This is what is referred to as “apple-pie propaganda.”

#2  2. What is the VAMPIRE
The Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment or VAMPIRE is designed by L3 Harris, a US defence contractor known for their radios, EO Tech sights, and a multitude of technological innovations. The VAMPIRE is a compact and palletized rocket launching platform. Designed to be mounted on any flat surface, the VAMPIRE can convert an average pickup truck into rocket launching technical. There are three main components to the system: The enhanced optical targeting system, etc.

Britain
Will we be the North Korea of Europe?
[ConservativeWoman] AS THE world has around 190 countries, it provides us with many examples of which political and economic systems result in peace, freedom and prosperity and which burden their people with enslavement, backwardness and poverty. Perhaps the best example of how one country becomes wealthy while a neighbour becomes a basket case is in the two Koreas. They have similar geographies, similar natural resources and similar people. Yet South Korea has produced growth, economic success and wealth, while the North has produced only misery, famine, malnutrition and impoverishment:

We can see a similar situation in the Middle East where democratic Israel has flourished while many of its neighbors have not exactly had the same success:
Graph
Perhaps the real reason Israel’s Arab neighbors desperately want its destruction is the fact that Israel’s success shows up the failure of many Arab leaders.

...That brings us to Sir Keir Starmer’s Britain. Sir Keir has promised us economic growth. But there’s a bit of a problem. Britain already has some of the world’s highest energy prices:
Table
Economics 101 will teach you that you cannot have economic growth with some of the world’s highest energy prices as high energy costs obviously make your industries uncompetitive. Moreover, the more a country relies on expensive and unreliable wind and solar for its energy, the higher its energy prices. And with Ed Miliband’s rush to wreck Britain’s North Sea oil and gas industry and blight our lives with hundreds of useless wind turbines and solar farms, Britain’s energy prices are bound to rise even further.

So we are in a crazy new world in which our government will be furiously pushing policies to stimulate economic growth while just as furiously doing everything it can under the banner of Net Zero to destroy any chance of economic growth.

The rest of Europe seems to be waking up to the insanity of imposing Net Zero in trying to solve a climate crisis which doesn’t even exist. Across Europe, Net Zero pledges are being gradually watered down and even abandoned. For example Germany, having made the ludicrous mistake of closing much of its nuclear industry after the Japan Fukushima disaster because Mrs Merkel didn’t realise there aren’t any tsunamis in the almost land-locked country, is reopening coal mines. But here in Britain under Starmer/Miliband, our government is doubling down on wrecking our economy in order to become a supposed ’clean energy superpower’.

We’ve already lost much of our manufacturing and oil refining. Our chemicals industry looks like being the next headed for annihilation. Some car manufacturers are threatening to close down their UK operations. After that, there won’t be much left. Though Starmer/Miliband, cheered on by the climate-catastrophist BBC and scientifically-challenged mainstream media, will be able to claim that Britain is ’leading the world in cutting its CO2 emissions’.

It’s a pity that, while doing this, Britain will be leading the world in committing economic suicide as we become the North Korea of Europe.

US to deploy long-range weapons in Germany
Direct Translation via Google Translate.

Text taken from the Telegram pages of vatfor and nuclear_stormbringer

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin is in italics

[ColonelCassad] An American-German statement thundered from the sidelines of the Washington summit about the appearance of "long-range strike weapons" (who are they kidding, we are talking about medium-range missiles) in Germany in 2026. What, again, was veiledly stated - in the pictures. They are waiting for them in Mainz-Kassel.

The essence was commented on for thematic materials of Kommersant and Vedomosti.

Traditionally, the author's version of our considerations.

Nothing unexpected happened: sooner or later the so-called "multi-domain task forces" (Multi-Domain Task Force), one of which (2 MDTF) is deployed as part of the 56th Artillery Command just in Germany, were supposed to get their "long arm".

The fresh American-German statement mentions very specific "products" of the army missile systems "Typhon" and "Dark Eagle", the appearance of which, despite the lack of direct instructions, is directly related to the US withdrawal from the #INF Treaty.

It is funny that there is no mention of the third model of missile weapon related to this plot - the operational-tactical missile system PrSM, which is integrated with fairly widespread launchers such as HIMARS and M270 and is reliably capable of hitting targets at ranges exceeding 500 km. Incidentally, these launchers are also included in the MDTF.

In the political dimension, we are now witnessing the funeral of not only the INF Treaty, but also the Russian "moratorium". It seems that the Americans and partly their allies have convinced themselves that the so-called "dual solution" of NATO perfectly solved all their problems in the 1980s (and did not contribute to the past Euro-missile crisis and did not put the world on the brink of a nuclear war, for example, in 1983), and they completely ignore the internal political processes in the USSR and, in general, the traditionally significant role of the disarmament agenda in Soviet foreign policy.

There are huge doubts that their attempt to play out a similar combination now, and especially in relation to two very different opponents (Russia and China) in a completely different international military-political (and economic and social) situation, will increase anyone’s security.

At the same time, the US is emphasizing the non-nuclear nature of its medium-range missiles in every possible way, and no changes are in sight. Theoretically, making nuclear versions is not the biggest problem, but today the American nuclear weapons complex is struggling to cope with current tasks, and adding new warheads to current projects will be very difficult in terms of limited resources - human, financial, industrial, and even fissile materials and plutonium pits.

Whether today's statement is connected with the evolution of Russian approaches is a debatable issue, but perhaps it served as an additional argument for obtaining Germany's consent for such deployment.

* * *

DOMESTIC AFFAIRS.
The public is interested in what we have to say about the prospects for the production and deployment of domestic medium-range missiles.

1. We would very much like to know how things are going with the development and testing of the relevant products, which, as is known, were supposed to be completed back in 2019-2020. At the same time, we do not rule out that everything is already ready, moreover, we do not rule out combat use. Such are the times.
Note: Links to mil.ru require a VPN on a Russian open VPN server to view.
2. What exactly we will see, if we see it, is a question. Perhaps, it will certainly be a full-fledged "grounded" Kalibr, but what kind of medium-range hypersonic complex is still not entirely clear. The obvious option is a land version of the "Zircon", or a conditional 9M723UTTH, or something in between. Although, again, the times are such that they can roll out the Rubezh-B3. Or they can do something together with our new friends from the Wrong Square of Evil.

3. When this will happen - the devil knows, but most likely it will happen. Where - is also a big question, here the new Leningrad Military District can "play", or, on the contrary, the Far East can be in the forefront, especially since from there it is possible, if desired and able, to reach the USA.

4. In any case, the arms race is gradually acquiring the character of a classic arms race, and even with a pronounced multilateral character. And the security dilemma works flawlessly, so we will see a lot of land-based missiles in the near future, including in our Europes, both ballistic and cruise. And in Asia they will not remain in debt, the worst Korea will not let you lie. As we like to repeat ( https://t.me/vatfor/8105), no one promised that a multipolar world would be safer.

5. Sooner or later, if we live long enough, and these new-old toys are taken up with control and reduction, the alternatives are much worse. And more expensive.

P.S. Don't doubt it, we will have all this stuff in double performance, as they say, for the Russians, everything that is larger than an ATGM receives a special warhead by default. Such are the traditions.

As I wrote even before the SVO, the nuclear missile arms race is inevitable. The emerging multipolar world will be a very dangerous place.

Russian Foreign Ministry calls for introducing clearer wording into the nuclear doctrine
The experience of the special military operation in Ukraine has shown the inadequacy of general formulations in the Russian nuclear doctrine, so it is necessary to introduce more precise definitions in it in order to show Western countries the possible consequences of their actions, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov said on July 12 on Channel One.

He noted that NATO members ignore Russia's potential in this area, they are clearly convinced that the worst will not happen, despite any steps they take against common sense. Because of this, clearer provisions are needed in the nuclear doctrine so that Western countries understand what will happen if they continue to act in this way, the deputy minister added.

“The political deafness of those who shape the position of Washington, Brussels, and other Western capitals in this area is all-encompassing; therapeutic measures in terms of some verbal signals are working less and less,” Ryabkov said.

The Deputy Foreign Minister also accused NATO of lack of restraint in the area of nuclear deterrence. He called this a characteristic feature of the alliance. NATO is trying to dominate in the area of nuclear weapons, but these aspirations are doomed, Ryabkov noted.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on June 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was considering a possible change to its nuclear doctrine in response to the West lowering the threshold for using nuclear weapons. At the same time, he emphasized that there was no need to envisage the possibility of a preventive nuclear strike. The head of state also noted that Russia was monitoring the growth of threats and would respond to them adequately.

On June 23, the head of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov announced a possible adjustment to the nuclear doctrine. He noted that this depends on changes in the military-political situation. If threats and challenges increase, Russia may make amendments to the document, the deputy added.

Foreign Ministry assesses the prospects for dialogue on strategic stability between Russia and the United States
Under the current conditions, dialogue on strategic stability between Russia and the United States is by definition impossible. This was stated on July 12 by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov on Channel One.

Ryabkov noted that at the moment, dialogue between Moscow and Washington has been reduced to a minimum, and this was not the fault of the Russian side.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs clarified that in some respects, Russia, for reasons of principle, does not confirm its readiness to meet the US halfway, explaining that he means a dialogue on strategic stability and prospects for nuclear arms control.

"They consider us an enemy that must be defeated, and at the same time, without blinking an eye, they propose to conduct such a dialogue. This is impossible by definition," he said.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on July 11, the head of state's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is ready to discuss strategic security issues only as a whole, and not their individual aspects. He emphasized that the Russian side will not discuss individual elements taken out of the general context of security.

A Kremlin spokesman noted on June 21 that the Russian side, as President Vladimir Putin had previously stated, was ready for a U.S. dialogue on nuclear security, but it should be comprehensive. Peskov added that dialogue on these issues was necessary because without it, global security problems were growing.

TĂźrkiye discusses resumption of 'grain corridor' with Russia and Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Turkey is negotiating with Russia and Ukraine to resume the “grain corridor,” the issue was discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Kiev regime Volodymyr Zelensky. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told journalists on a plane en route from Washington on July 12

The Turkish leader specified that active negotiations are currently underway with Ukraine and Russia on the resumption of the grain corridor. Erdogan noted that his last meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Astana was devoted to this very topic, and at the NATO summit he discussed this issue with the Ukrainian leader.
Are people still starving for lack of Ukrainian grain, as they were at the start of the current Russian invasion? I seem to remember reading that grain production increased elsewhere to make up for it, but I could be mistaken…
"We also want to work on the grain corridor with the Ukrainian side. I hope that we will start working on this corridor again," the Turkish leader emphasized.

Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that, as the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, stated, the Kremlin does not rule out any agreements, including on the resumption of the grain deal, but such issues should be considered in a comprehensive manner.

Peskov clarified that the Russian president is open to any dialogue and any attempts to reach agreements “based on a certain worldview.”

The Black Sea Grain Initiative (grain deal) was in effect from July 22, 2022. It involved the provision by the Russian military of a transport corridor for the export of grain from Ukraine to world markets. Turkey acted as an intermediary in the deal. The grain, following from Ukraine, passed through Turkish ports.

On July 17, 2023, Russia withdrew from the agreements, as none of its demands were met. In addition, Kiev, hiding behind the agreements, used the sea corridors to prepare terrorist attacks. On July 17, 2023, Erdogan declared that the grain deal went down in history as a victory for diplomacy.

AOC Loses the Endorsement of the Democratic Socialists of America
I’m shocked. Being the DSA representative is a large part of her brand. I’m not sure what the point of pulling the endorsement now is — she’ll be to the right of the Republican candidate regardless, so this just make the DSA look powerless.
[Townhall] The Democratic Socialists of America are no longer supporting progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, pulling their endorsement of the New York Democrat for failing to meet a list of demands the group set forth.

A conditional endorsement was offered in June as long as the congresswoman "Publicly opposes all funding to Israel, including the Iron Dome; Participates regularly in the DSA Federal Socialists in Office Committee; Publicly opposes all criminalization of Anti-Zionism, such as bills advancing the IHRA definition which conflates criticism of Israel with anti-semitism; [and] Publicly supports BDS (Boycott, Divest, and Sanction) to end Israeli settler-colonialism."

Failing to see evidence that AOC met all those conditions, the DSA National Political Committee withdrew its endorsement.

"We recognize that AOC has taken many courageous positions on Palestine such as co-sponsoring several House Resolutions (3103, 786, 496), naming Israel’s genocide as well as opposing House Resolution 894," a statement said. "However, members have raised their concerns regarding a number of her votes, including a vote in favor of H.Res.888, conflating opposition to Israel’s ’right to exist’ with antisemitism. AOC also co-signed a press release on April 20, 2024, that ’support[s] strengthening the Iron Dome and other defense systems.’"

China-Japan-Koreas
Pacific Fleet ships arrive in China for joint exercises
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Ships of the Pacific Fleet arrived at the Chinese port of Zhanjiang to participate in the joint naval exercises "Maritime Interaction - 2024", the Russian Defense Ministry reported on July 12.

“At the pier in the Chinese port, the corvettes Gromkiy and Rezkiy were met by representatives of the Navy of the People’s Liberation Army of China, the Russian embassy and the local administration,” the department said.

They noted that on the first day, a detachment of Russian ships took part in the opening ceremony of the exercises.

The Pacific Fleet in China has planned a busy program. There will be joint meetings of exercise leaders, a meeting of the working groups of the two countries on episodes of joint training, a tactical "fly-by", and a drawing of practical actions on maps. A cultural program with visits to local attractions has also been prepared for the crews of the Russian ships.

The Defense Ministry added that the practical phase of the training will take place from July 15 to 17. The crews of the Pacific Fleet and PLA Navy ships will conduct joint air defense exercises, anti-submarine exercises with the involvement of PLA naval anti-submarine aviation. Separately, the sailors will practice rescue tasks at sea.

As reported by IA Regnum, earlier the corvettes Rezkiy and Gromkiy left Vladivostok on July 8 to conduct joint exercises in the Asia-Pacific region. As part of the exercises, the ships were to conduct a number of activities in the Asia-Pacific region, including searching for and destroying submarines of a simulated enemy.

In June, Russian and Egyptian warships conducted joint exercises in the Mediterranean Sea. During the maneuvers, they worked out the formation of a detachment of warships in a designated area, conducted communications training, and provided flights for deck helicopters. The frigate Al-Qadir participated from Egypt. The joint training in the Pacific Fleet was called another practical step in strengthening Russian-Egyptian naval cooperation.

The nuclear-powered missile submarines Severodvinsk and Orel of the Northern Fleet carried out practical missile firing at the "enemy" in the Barents Sea. The exercises were conducted in accordance with the combat training plan.

State trials of icebreaker Evpatiy Kolovrat for Pacific Fleet completed

[Regnum] State tests of the newest icebreaker Evpatiy Kolovrat, created for the needs of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, have been completed. This was reported on July 12 by the information support department of the press service of the Eastern Military District for the Pacific Fleet.

“In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, factory tests of the multifunctional ice-class ship Evpatiy Kolovrat for the detachment of auxiliary vessels of the troops and forces in the north-east of Russia have been completed,” the statement said.

It is noted that in the near future a ceremony of raising the naval flag on the icebreaker will be held in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, after which it will be accepted into the Navy.

During the tests, the icebreaker's seaworthiness, maneuverability, and the operation of air navigation equipment and ship systems were tested. The icebreaker will provide year-round escort of Pacific Fleet ships in the near Arctic zone and provide logistical support and patrols.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, on June 9, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Viktor Yevtukhov said that the Navy will receive 50 new ships by the end of the year. According to him, the fleet will include submarines, as well as small missile ships and support vessels, in addition, special attention will be paid to frigates and corvettes capable of operating in the distant sea zone.

The Ministry of Defense reported in early January that the small missile ship Burya and the submarine Kronshtadt would join the Navy in 2024. The department specified that the Navy would continue the planned increase in its personnel. At the same time, the Baltic, Pacific, and Black Sea fleets would be reinforced with several small missile and patrol ships, as well as sea minesweepers.
