State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said Thursday that "something is seriously wrong" with the way anti-Israel protests are unfolding in the nation's capital.
"Something is seriously wrong when you see people marching through the streets of Washington carrying Hamas banners, literal, literal Hamas banners, carrying the Hamas flag down the streets of Washington, D.C. When you see people spray painting on fountains in Washington that Hamas is coming, when you see them displaying signs calling for the death of Jews, when you see them burning American flags, it's despicable," Miller said.
"It's hateful. It runs contrary to the values of this country, I think especially when you consider what that flag that we saw being burned yesterday stands for," he continued. "And one of the things that stands for is the right to protest, the right to make your views known, make them known peacefully."
"I would say to anyone that is burning an American flag while spray painting pro-Hamas graffiti in Washington to stop and think for a moment about what would happen if they were protesting Hamas's rule in Gaza," Miller added.
"And it's not a question that you have to look very hard for an answer, because we know, because we've seen in the past when people have protested Hamas' rule in Gaza, we've seen how Hamas has responded. They responded with brutal crackdowns, with arrests, with violent repression. Fortunately, that is not who we are in this country," he concluded.
A new disposition has emerged in the US presidential election. After Joe Biden's emergency and dramatic replacement in the election race, Kamala Harris is ready to take his place . However, not everyone is enthusiastic about her candidacy.

At the very beginning of her career, Harris was actively assisted by Willie Brown , at that time an influential "fixer" and the mayor of San Francisco. However, Harris quickly fell out of favor with the Democratic electorate. She ended her campaign in early 2020 with a 2% rating, without even waiting for the first states to vote in the primaries. But ironically, it was she who was chosen as his vice-presidential running mate by Biden, the very same person she called a racist.
And in this case, the racial and gender factor helped her again, although even then, Harris’s figure raised many questions among Democrats. 2020 passed under the shadow of BLM speeches, and she was accused of putting many black people in prison for marijuana possession as a prosecutor.
Then, however, the agenda changed, and "progressive" justice became fashionable. Harris immediately changed her tune, supporting the practice of reducing the police, which led to an unprecedented rise in crime in the United States.
There were also questions about her origins. On her mother's side she was Indian, and on her father's side, contrary to the legends that still circulated, she was not a descendant of slaves. Her ancestors were one of the largest slave-owning families in Jamaica; an entire town on the island was named after them - Brown Town. Her great-grandfather Harris Hamilton Brown owned no fewer than 200 souls.
...As vice president, Harris faced real challenges for the first time in her life. She was immediately tasked with resolving the immigration crisis at the southern border of the United States, but she was not interested in it, and she clearly lacked talent. Recent polls show his support among Hispanics and blacks once again at record levels. It would be ironic if, with Harris at the helm, Democrats find themselves in the midst of a disintegration of their already very shaky minority coalition.

NORAD fighter jets from the United States and Canada conducted the interception.

That's the only thing I could think to say in response to reading the order handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Mark Scarsi on Wednesday requiring Hunter Biden's legal team to show cause why they should not be sanctioned for making false statements in their recently filed motion to dismiss. While Hunter was presumably focused on his father's Oval Office address, his attorneys were getting lit up by a federal judge.
Here's what happened: On July 15th, Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the Florida criminal case against former President Donald Trump regarding his alleged improper retention of classified documents on the basis that Special Counsel Jack Smith's appointment violated the Appointments Clause of the Constitution.
On July 18th, Biden's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the California tax case against him, attempting to piggyback off Cannon's ruling and asserting that Special Counsel David Weiss, likewise, was improperly appointed and thus didn't have authority to bring the charges against Biden.
In the motion, Biden's lawyers argued, "The Attorney General relied upon the exact same authority to appoint the Special Counsel in both the Trump and Biden matters, and both appointments are invalid for the same reason."
There's just one problem with that: Weiss was already a sitting U.S. Attorney when he was appointed as Special Counsel. Or, as George Washington Law professor Jonathan Turley noted:
However, a key difference between Smith and Weiss is that it could lead these courts to asking "why is a Weiss like a Smith?" The extent that he is not could prove a critical distinction. Weiss is a Senate confirmed U.S. Attorney where Smith was a private citizen plucked by Merrick Garland from the general population for the position.
But there's an even bigger problem with the motion than that: Biden's lawyers contended in the motion that Weiss only brought charges against Biden after he was appointed as Special Counsel. Which, as Scarsi very pointedly notes in his order, is false (emphasis mine):
The Court orders Mr. Biden’s counsel to show cause why sanctions should not be imposed for making false statements in the motion.
...
In support of his motion, Mr. Biden asserts, several times, that Special Counsel Weiss "brought no charges [against Mr. Biden] until after he received the Special Counsel title . . . ." (Mot. 5; accord id. at 6 ("Special Counsel Weiss . . . brought no chargesin this investigation with his U.S. Attorney position but, as Special Counsel, initiated legal proceedings on both sides of the country against Mr. Biden in Delaware and California . . . .id. at 7 ("Mr. Weiss . . . sought Special Counsel status before bringing any charges.").) These statements, however, are not true, and Mr. Biden’s counsel knows they are not true.
The order notes that Weiss brought charges against Biden as U.S. Attorney in Delaware prior to his appointment as special counsel and further notes that Biden's attorneys acknowledged that very fact in a prior pleading filed with the court before adding:
The misstatements in the current motion are not trivial. Mr. Weiss’s institution of charges against Mr. Biden in his capacity as U.S. Attorney offers a meaningful distinction between this case and the nonbinding district court decision on which Mr.Biden bases his motion. But Mr. Biden’s motion does not engage with this distinction; instead, counsel avoids the issue by misrepresenting the history of the proceedings.
This Court has little tolerance for lack of candor from counsel.
The order notes that Biden's counsel may withdraw or amend their pleading, but they still must show cause as to why they included the false statements in the first place.
Here's my prediction as to how Biden's legal team will play this: Attorney Mark Geragos (also known for representing such notables as former President Bill Clinton's business partner Susan McDougal, Roger Clinton Jr., former Congressman Gary Condit, Scott Petersen, Michael Jackson, Jussie Smollett — oh, and being implicated but not charged in Michael Avenatti's attempted extortion of Nike) recently (on July 3rd) entered his appearance for Biden, joining his legal team. Abbe Lowell is still co-counsel, but Geragos is the one who signed and filed the motion. My best guess is the legal team will plead miscommunication and confusion between the original legal team and the new one and issue multiple effusive mea culpas for their "inadvertent oversight."
Will Scarsi have mercy on them? We'll soon find out.

Reporting out of the Sudan is execrable. Fighting is occurring along two fronts, one south of Khartoum for control of the White Nile. The second is the action in and around the capital of Darfur, El Fasher. What is not at all clear is the role the The extensive ethnic Zaghawa is playing in this. The Zaghawa, a significant minority in Darfur, constitute a majority of officers in the Chadian army. They are the most intelligent, trusted, and the most battle tested. They are superior in general to the Arab cohort in Sudan's officer corps. Unfortunately, the Zaghawas in Chad and Sudan at present seem to be severely divided, The Zaghawa reportedly have an aversion to hereditary rule, and internal divisions along such lines remain to be played out.
The Arab sides in conflict in Darfur do not choose to attack the Zaghawa, or so it seems, but which side the Zaghawa Chad/Sudan leadership supports is not at all clear. Are they the wildcard? Reporting on inter and intra-ethnic conflict in Darfur would certainly be appreciated.

An unnamed patriot reached into a smoldering heap Wednesday to rescue an American flag from burning at the hands of pro-Hamas agitators.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, was able to successfully save a fragment of Old Glory. He told a local journalist who recorded the incident that he is an attorney who works near Union Station in Washington D.C., where the anti-Israel demonstrations happened.
In a video taken by Richie McGinniss and shared via X, the man stoops down into the flames and takes a fragment of the burning flag with his bare hands.
An angry mob rushes after the unnamed man carrying the burned flag, shouting "Get him!" and banging drums.
In the chase, a pro-Hamas agitator can be seen tripping over a skateboard. The anonymous patriot barely escapes through the crowd, running out of Columbus Circle.
In a later video post, McGinniss shares that the unnamed man said, "I grabbed what I could out of the fire and ran."
"I'm ashamed I didn't stop and go back and get the rest of it," the man told McGinniss.
"Thank you, sir, whoever you are – that was brave and honorable behavior on display," a user commented on X.
Agitators also burned an effigy of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as an Israeli flag.
At least 23 pro-Hamas agitators were arrested Wednesday during the unruly demonstrations outside Union Station. Vandalism included "F--- ISREAL" painted onto brick pavement, with Israel misspelled.

Accusing the group of being a "direct representative of Iran's supreme leader", the ministry said the centre spreads Tehran's ideology "in an aggressive and bully boy manner".
It is allegedly seeking to "establish authoritarian, theocratic rule" in place of a democracy, said the ministry, accusing the centre of backing the "military and political dimension" of organizations like Hezbollah. It is also believed to propagate anti-Semitism, the ministry claimed.
Investigators raided 53 properties allegedly linked to the centre across Germany on Wednesday, and the ban will also be imposed on several organizations related to the Hamburg centre - including four Shia mosques.
"I want to make it very clear: We are not taking action against a religion," said Interior Minister Nancy Faeser.
"We are drawing a clear distinction between the Islamist murderous Moslems that we are cracking down on and the many Moslems who belong to our country and live according to their faith.

The Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) was under investigation for several months over its alleged support for Leb's Hezbollah group which is backed by Iran. Hezbollah is classified as a terrorist group by Germany.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said on Wednesday that the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) would be banned for propagating extremism and that its famous "Blue Mosque" was being searched by police.
"It is very important to me to make a clear distinction here: we are not acting against a religion," Faeser said, but just against a group accused of undermining the German state as well as women's rights.
The Imam Ali Mosque, known locally as the Blue Mosque, is one of Germany's oldest mosques and is operated by the IZH.
The IZH is being probed for "spreading aggressive antisemitism," Faeser said on Wednesday, adding that raids against the group in November established proof of connections to Hezbollah and led to Wednesday's ban.
In a statement, the Interior Ministry said that it "banned the Hamburg Islamic Centre and its affiliated organizations throughout Germany to date, as it is an Islamist murderous Moslem organization pursuing anti-constitutional objectives".
The ministry accused the organization of spreading Iranian revolutionary ideas, writing the IZH worked to spread those ideas "in an aggressive and Death Eater manner."
There had been calls for years from Hamburg residents to investigate the IZH.
Affiliated institutions in the federal states of Bremen, Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin were also being investigated. The ministry said 53 properties were being searched, and four mosques were shut.
In 2020, Germany designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization and banned its activities on German soil.

Two of the plaintiffs in the case were Texas Gun Rights, Inc., and the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR). There were individual plaintiffs, as well.
Plaintiffs sued the United States Attorney General, the ATF, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and others over the rule, which made it a felony to possess an FRT. Their suit centered on the ATF’s broadening of the term “machinegun” to include FRTs.
An FRT is a trigger that resets a semiautomatic firearm’s trigger mechanically, thus allowing the gun to be fired faster. However, the gun still fires only one round per trigger pull.
O’Connor noted the semiautomatic action of a firearm is not changed by the installation of an FRT: “When firing multiple shots using an FRT, the trigger must still reset after each round is fired and must separately function to release the hammer by moving far enough to rear in order to fire the next round.”
He applied various court decisions regarding the ATF’s bump stock rule, noting, “FRTs do not fire multiple rounds with a single function of the trigger and, thus, do not qualify as machineguns.”

As with all events since Trump’s first election, there was a certain collapse of meaning surrounding the attempt that likely only an early-career DeLillo could parse. Two things have emerged: Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election and his vice president will be marine turned venture capitalist turned Ohio senator, J.D. Vance.
Following the announcement of J.D. Vance as Trump’s number two, there was an outpouring of celebration from a certain faction of the liberal commentariat on Twitter that this was a "beatable ticket." They pointed to his extreme positions on issues such as child sacrifice abortion, immigration, climate change, and the January 6 riot as evidence.
But this is a wilful delusion that demonstrates how little these people have learned since 2016 and their inability to grasp the fact that they are running a corpse. It also shows a critical lack of understanding of who J.D. Vance is and what position he holds in the new political landscape.
J.D. Vance is not a MAGA crackpot or a garden-variety Republican bending the knee to Trump; he represents a bridge between mainstream politics and the Neoreactionary Right, a political force that so far has remained largely on the periphery of electoral politics.
The New Right or Neoreactionary Right or Dissident Right is a broad coalition of disaffected former leftists, race scientists, auteur filmmakers, health gurus, podcasters, bodybuilder satirists, accelerationist fashion designers, Unabomber fans, and bitcoin maximalists. The discourse in neoreactionary circles is often so heavily meme-ified and laundered in irony that it can be difficult to know what they believe or even have in common.
However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened... in a Vanity Fair article covering the movement in 2022, which also happens to chart J.D. Vance’s ascent, James Pogue stated, "It is a project to overthrow the thrust of progress, at least such as liberals understand the word." ... and so on, blah blah blah.
I've seen that movie, watched it a second time, in fact. The red pill represented reality. The other pill was the lie.

Good find, IS. It’s important to know which particular flavour of propaganda we’re analyzing — and to recognize its tropes when they show up elsewhere.
At this point there is not enough information to indicate how it should be filed, dear Reader, which is very odd, indeed. Usually the FBI is racing the DOJ to get in front of the news cameras and crow about their triumph.
[Breitbart] The FBI raided the $3.5 million home of a former Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) staffer on Tuesday, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.
The five-bedroom Long Island property of Linda Sun, Hochul’s former deputy chief of staff, was searched in the early morning hours before dawn, the outlet reported.
Inside sources told the publication that neither Sun, 40, nor her husband, Chris Hu, 41, have been accused of criminal wrongdoing and that they were not arrested.
The search warrant was obtained by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, sources said.
It is unclear if anything was seized from the home, which the couple owned until transferring it into a trust in March.
An FBI spokesperson confirmed to the New York Times that agents from the bureau’s New York field office had “conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity” at Sun’s gated-community home in Manhasset, but declined to provide more information.
According to her LinkedIn, Sun most recently worked as a campaign manager for Austin Cheng, a Democrat who ran for New York’s third congressional district before withdrawing from the race in December 2023.
Sun has also had multiple “diversity officer” jobs in recent years, including within the New York State Department of Financial Services and the New York State Executive Chamber.
She stopped working for Hochul’s office around two years ago, according to NBC New York.
Exactly why Sun and her husband were the target of an FBI search is still unknown, but details are beginning to emerge around Sun — the latest person in New York politics whose home or property was raided by the FBI (See: Winnie Greco, Briana Suggs and Rana Abbasova — all connected to the mayor of New York City.)
Here’s what we know about Linda Sun:
1. She was fired from the Department of Labor for “misconduct” in 2023
A source in state government, who requested anonymity to freely provide details about Sun, said she was fired from her job in the Department of Labor in March of 2023 after the administration discovered “evidence of misconduct.”
“Immediately upon discovering the evidence of misconduct, the administration referred the matter to law enforcement authorities,” the source said.
Sun could not be reached for comment.
2. She served in mid-level roles within the Cuomo and Hochul administrations.
Sun was brought on by the Cuomo administration in 2012 to be their liaison to the AAPI community and work on intergovernmental affairs in Queens.
After three years with Cuomo, Sun worked for Empire State Development for another three years as “Director of External Affairs for Global NY,” according to her Linkedin profile.
The job included leading trade and investment missions to five countries each year and “negotiating mutually beneficial deliverables in-line with NYS trade and foreign direct investment goals,” according to the profile.
She then took a job as deputy chief diversity officer in Cuomo’s executive chamber in 2018, before moving to the Department of Financial Services, before being hired by Hochul in September 2021 to work as her deputy chief of staff. In 2022, she left the chamber to work for the state’s Department of Labor.
In New York State government, secretary to the governor — not chief of staff — is the most powerful position within the executive chamber.
3. She has a really, really nice house
The home the FBI raided on Tuesday was in a gated community in ritzy Manhasset on Long Island’s North Shore. It last sold for $3.5 million, according to property records. The home has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, and costs over $50,000 in property taxes, according to real estate websites Zillow and Compass.
According to the Empire Center’s SeeThroughNY database, Sun’s salary was about $145,000 in 2021.
4. Her most recent financial disclosure provides few details
Besides her state salary, Sun reported no other sources of income in 2021, according to financial disclosure documents reviewed by Playbook. The New York Times, which broke the news of the raid on Sun’s home, reports that her husband, Chris Hu, operates a liquor store in Queens and had other ventures before then, like starting a company called Medical Supplies USA LLC during the COVID pandemic.
The documents reviewed by Playbook also show that Hu was also listed as the CEO for the company “Foodie Fisherman LLC” and was shown to have partial ownership of a property in Jamaica, Queens, with his share reportedly valued somewhere between $250 to $500k.
According to The Salem News, a local newspaper for communities north of Boston, Hu was with delegates from the Chinese Consulate General’s office during a trip and luncheon in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
The article, published in 2016, said Hu’s company “exports more than a million pounds of lobster annually back to China.”
5. She is active in the China General Chamber of Commerce
Upon Sun’s appointment as Hochul’s deputy chief of staff, the China General Chamber of Commerce — an organization that calls itself “the largest and most impactful non-profit organization representing Chinese enterprises in the U.S.” — celebrated Sun for her appointment to the governor’s administration and for being the highest-appointed Asian American in the executive chamber.
“CGCC has had the honor and pleasure to work with Ms. Sun and her colleagues on many charitable projects,” the organization’s website reads.

Whatever was in the 'damning letter', I don't see anything about it in today's Israeli media. There was some sort of 'letter' written in May but the exact content wasn't made public (or at least I couldn't find that either).
