OJ Simpson granted parole for Las Vegas robbery, search begins for real killers
[ABC] O.J. Simpson has been granted parole after nine years in prison for a Las Vegas robbery, a group of four Nevada commissioners decided today.

The imprisoned former NFL player could be released as early as Oct. 1.

Simpson, 70, delivered a rambling account of the case to the parole board earlier today, maintaining that he didn’t intend to steal but "wish this would have never happened."

Simpson was at times jovial and combative with the members of the parole board, expressing his remorse and saying he's humbled by his incarceration. Simpson was sentenced to prison following an arrest in 2007 during a botched robbery in Las Vegas, when he led a group of men into a hotel and casino to steal sports memorabilia at gunpoint. He contended the memorabilia and other personal items belonged to him.

Simpson said today, "I take full responsibility."

Berkeley Antifa Leader Arrested For Inciting A Riot
[HotAir] Tuesday, police arrested Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley middle-school teacher who is one of the leaders of the Antifa group By Any Means Necessary. Felarca is charged with inciting a riot last June in Sacramento, CA. From Berkeleyside:

Felarca was captured on video hitting a member of the Traditional Worker’s Party, a white supremacist group that had taken out permits for a rally on the west steps of the state capitol. Felarca, a member of the group By Any Means Necessary, and other counter-protesters blocked the rally by chasing and hitting and even stabbing members of the Traditional Worker’s Party.

This video appears to show Felarca punching a protester in the stomach before other members of her group jump him:

Lou Dobbs: Illinois should be stripped of its name (Video)
[FOX] FOX Business’ Lou Dobbs said Wednesday that Democratic policies are to blame for Illinois’s budget crisis.

"Democrats have controlled the state legislature for 14 straight years...given the unconscionable mess that Democrats made of Illinois, perhaps President Trump should just say ’no, no bailout,’" he said.

Illinois could go down as the first U.S. state to have a "junk" credit rating, with $15 billion in unpaid bills.

Dobbs said the state should be stripped of its name for its irresponsible economic actions.

MAXINE 2020? Waters appearance in NH on Sunday
Is 78-year-old "Auntie" "Mescaline" Maxine Waters seriously going to make a run for the White House in 2020?

Speculation is increasing as it’s revealed the California congresswoman and darling of Trump haters nationwide will be making an appearance in the early presidential primary state of New Hampshire on Sunday.

"According to an invitation, obtained by WMUR from Democratic sources, Waters will be in the state on July 23 for the picnic to be held at the Miller Farm in New Durham," WMUR reports, where she will hobnob with the Strafford County Democratic Committee.

President Trump has been a favorite punching bag for Waters, who seems to spin a new conspiracy theory about his administration and aides every few days.

Waters has been intentionally antagonistic towards the president’s supporters, as well.

During a screed on the House floor in March, Waters played the race card and the patriotism card against supporters of the president.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Klingon Deep State and DoD divided over Kurdish fighters in Syria
[Defense One] The end game has arrived. In Syria, the U.S.-backed campaign to retake Raqqa from the Islamic State is nearing its final chapter. And yet the rifts inside the United States government about what to do next, as ISIS falls, are as evident in President Donald Trump’s administration as they were many months ago in Obama’s. The questions about the long-term have yet to be answered.

Just take two fronts: America’s relationship with the Syrian Kurds who are leading the grinding fight against ISIS, and the question of Iran after ISIS.

Already there is a gap between the State Department and U.S.-led forces fighting the war in Syria. Parts of the State Department -- particularly U.S. diplomats based in Turkey -- share the Turkish government’s concerns about U.S. forces aligning with Syrian Kurds and have been worried about U.S. plans to have Syrian Kurds take part in whatever stabilization efforts come next. Meanwhile, in the eyes of those in uniform inside Syria with an up-close view of the battle, the Syrian Kurds are the best fighting force America has in country. They’re also most able to access and assist with Syria’s humanitarian crisis and post-conflict stabilization.

The divide is driven by the differing mandates facing State and the Pentagon. The State Department is working to keep NATO ally Turkey in dialog and on board. The Pentagon is charged with fighting ISIS with local forces and without tackling the Assad regime.

This means that Trump’s State Department can’t fully embrace a stabilization plan in Raqqa (much less negotiate one with Russia) so long as the Syrian Kurds remain both a central part of it and aligned with the PKK, or Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which Turkey considers to be a terrorist separatist group. That’s a challenge. In April, a group called the Raqqa Civilian Council was established to return order and forge a durable peace after the defeat of ISIS. It was founded and is led by Kurdish and Arab allies of America’s anti-ISIS coalition.

#5  Quick thinking Cajun woman thwarts gator attack with Beretta .25 caliber Jetfire pistol:

While out walking along the edge of a bayou just below Houma, Louisiana, with my soon to be ex-husband discussing property settlement and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-foot alligator suddenly emerging from the murky water and charging us with its large jaws wide open. She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive.

If I had not had my little Beretta Jetfire .25 caliber pistol with me I would not be here today! Just one shot to my estranged husband’s knee cap was all it took.

The gator got him easily and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace. It’s one of the best pistols in my collection!

Plus … The amount I saved in lawyer’s fees were more than worth the purchase price of this gun. — Matilda Landry

Iranian IRGC: U.S. Military Must Leave Iran's Borders and Stop Calling us Terrorists
[Newsweek] The leader of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has slammed the U.S.'s decision to pursue further sanctions against Tehran and urged Washington to curb its military presence in the region.

IRGC commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari demanded Wednesday the U.S. withdraw all of its military bases within 1,000 kilometers (more than 621 miles) of Iran's borders, a distance that encompasses most of the U.S.'s operations in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The remarks came in response to the White House's decision to impose more economic sanctions against the country only a day after President Donald Trump's administration concluded Iran was in compliance with their 2015 nuclear treaty. The State Department said Tuesday that the new sanctions were due to Iran's support for groups the U.S. designates as terrorist organizations, a label the U.S. has considered applying to the IRGC itself. Jafari countered these charges during his most recent address.

Rod Rosenstein suggests Comey broke FBI policy by leaking memos to press
[Washington Examiner] Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein suggested Wednesday that former FBI Director James Comey broke agency protocol by leaking memos to the press about his meetings with President Trump.

"As a general proposition, you have to understand the Department of Justice. We take confidentiality seriously, so when we have memoranda about our ongoing matters, we have an obligation to keep that confidential," Rosenstein said on Fox News after being asked if it would ever be proper for an FBI director to take notes on a meeting with the president and then leak them to the press.

Rosenstein stressed he wouldn't answer direct questions about Comey. But when asked if he would approve of Comey's leak, he reiterated the duty of offiicals to keep things confidential. "I think it is quite clear," he said. "It's what we were taught, all of us prosecutors and agents."

The second-highest justice official defended special counsel Robert Mueller, who he appointed to oversee a probe of possible collusion between Trump's campaign associates and Russia. Rosenstein indicated the appointment was not a conflict of interest to that investigation.

Kasich: Fix Obamacare With More Spending
[Hot Air] Ohio Gov. John Kasich wants Congress to "fix" Obamacare’s insurance exchanges with more federal spending, he explained in a New York Times op-ed.

"Congress should first focus on fixing the Obamacare exchanges before it takes on Medicaid," Kasich wrote, insisting that the federal government "provide adequate tax credits" to prop up the failed law.

Kasich has criticized the House’s American Health Care Act (AHCA) and the Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) at every step in the legislative process, penning opinion columns and making TV appearances to demand more spending and a slower phase-out of Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion.

When AHCA took shape as a package of delayed health insurance reforms well short of a full Obamacare repeal, Kasich attacked it from the left. Even as it became clear that BCRA was in some respects less ambitious than AHCA, Kasich attacked it from the left, too.

Britain
Britain Establishes An Exclusive Club For Rough Men
[Strategy Page] The British organized JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force) has accepted its first two non-NATO members: Sweden and Finland. Originally formed in 2014 with contingents from Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands and Norway the JEF has not yet become operational. That is not expected to happen until 2018. JEF contributions are limited to commando and other infantry units trained and equipped to move into action quickly. JEF also accepts air force and naval elements of a similar nature. This is why Britain is the lead member because Britain has the most long range military air and naval transport capability.

JEF is meant to supply, on short notice, a small force (of a few hundred troops) that can be sent anywhere in the world to deal with a crisis situation that would benefit from immediate attention before it turns into something larger and more difficult to deal with. Closer to home, JEF could put a force of up to 10,000 troops (land, air and naval) into action quickly. This option appears aimed at Russian plans for surprise attacks like those used successfully against Ukraine in 2014 (successfully to seize Crimea) and less successfully in 2015 (to take the Donbas area of east Ukraine).

After the Cold War ended in 1991, NATO nations began planning rapid reaction forces based largely on using conventional forces for emergencies within or adjacent to NATO member nations. This concept was expanded with the formation of the EU (European Union) in 1993. That was because at the same time the EU was formed there was a major crisis next door in the former communist state of Yugoslavia, where a civil war had broken out. The EU was meant to be an economic/political union. The EU has purely European and had more European nations as members than NATO did. Despite the existence of NATO, plans were soon underway to establish some EU military cooperation as well.

#1  Unfortunately, the EU has a very long history of grandiose military plans that go nowhere. That's because since 1991, they have cut back on their militaries to the point where they have just enough to keep drawing aid from Uncle Sugar. This one will join the parade.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian Authority's 2017 Budget Shows ‘Huge Increase' in Funding for Terror Payments
[Algemeiner] The Palestinian Authority’s 2017 budget shows a "huge increase" in the funding of salaries for imprisoned terrorists and the families of "martyrs," an Israeli research institute revealed on Wednesday.

According to Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), the amount of money allocated by the PA for payments to terrorists jailed in Israel rose 13% this year to $158 million -- compared to $135 million in 2016. During the same time frame, disbursements for family members of dead terrorists increased by 4% -- to $197 million from $183 million.

Overall, PMW said, the PA is spending $355 million this year on the direct funding of terrorism.

Itamar Marcus -- the founder and director of PMW -- told The Algemeiner on Wednesday, "There is no greater promotion of terror then the PA’s financially rewarding terrorists who have murdered Israelis. However it is critical to understand why the PA pays the salaries and why they refuse to stop. The PA claims that they have a right under international law to ’resist’ Israel and that includes murdering Israelis. They argue to their own people that to stop paying the salaries to prisoners would be to admit that all of the prisoners including murderers of women and children are terrorists and not legitimate ’freedom fighters.’ Accordingly, as horrific as the PA’s rewarding terror is, it is a symptom of a much deeper problem. The essential problem is that the PA tells its people they have a right to kill Israelis. Paying salaries to the killers who get caught and are imprisoned is a symptom."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Fmr. U.N. Amb. Power Emerges As Central Figure In Obama Unmasking Investigation
[Free Beacon] Former United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power's involvement in the unmasking by former Obama administration officials of sensitive national security information is raising red flags over what insiders view was an attempt by the former administration to undermine President Donald Trump and key figures on his team, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the situation.

Power appears to be central to efforts by top Obama administration officials to identify individuals named in classified intelligence community reports related to Trump and his presidential transition team, according to multiple sources.

The names of Trump allies in the raw intelligence reports were leaked to the press in what many in Congress and the current administration claim is an attempt by Obama allies and former officials to damage the White House.

The House Intelligence Committee, which is spearheading the investigation into these efforts, has issued subpoenas for Power and other top Obama administration figures, including former national security adviser Susan Rice, as part of congressional efforts to determine the source of these leaks.

Power's role in this unmasking effort is believed to be particularly questionable given her position as the U.N. ambassador, a post that does not typically require such sensitive unmasking activities, according to former U.S. officials and other sources familiar with the matter.

"Unmasking is not a regular occurrence--absolutely not a weekly habit. It is rare, even at the National Security Council, and ought to be rarer still for a U.N. ambassador," according to one former senior U.S. official who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.

"It might be defended when the communication in question relates directly to U.N. business, for example an important Security Council vote," explained the former official, who would only discuss the matter on background. "Sometimes it might be done out of other motives than national security, such as sheer curiosity or to defend a bureaucratic position. Or just plain politics."

The Intelligence Committee's focus of Power and other key Obama officials is a prime example of the Obama administration's efforts to spy on those close to Trump, according to sources familiar with the ongoing investigation.

"The subpoena for Power suggests just how pervasive the Obama administration's spying on Americans actually was," said one veteran GOP political operative who has been briefed on the matter by senior Congressional intelligence officials. "The U.N. ambassador has absolutely no business calling for the quantity and quality of the intelligence that Power seems to have been asking for."

The source questioned why Power would need to uncover such classified intelligence information in her role at the U.N.

Government
Coulter: How Delta Airlines Wrecked American Healthcare
[Breitbart] I think I’ve found the core problem with health care in America. And guess what? It involves Delta Airlines!
A few weeks ago, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was going on and on about a "single insurance provider" that pays for 49 percent of all births, as well as full health care costs of almost 40 percent of all children in the United States. This single "insurer," Maddow said, was the biggest "health insurance provider in the country by a mile."

Maddow was talking about Medicaid, which, of course, is not "insurance" but "welfare."

When we’re allowed to call things whatever we want in order to win an argument, there is a total breakdown in democratic politics, fair commerce, and social interaction.

Thus, for example, until we get our terms straight, Americans will be forced to keep paying through the nose whenever they try to buy actual health insurance -- because they aren’t buying health insurance; they’re paying for other people’s welfare. Washington will never be able to make it legal to sell real health insurance -- because, if they try, the welfare recipients will mob congressional offices claiming that Republicans are murdering them.

There is no truth in any discussion of Obamacare. Currently, the most persistent lie is the claim that -- according to scoring by the CBO! -- 22 million Americans would "lose" their health insurance under the Senate health care bill. Turn on the TV right now and you’ll hear someone saying this.

Not Enough Sex? Stop Having Threesomes With the Government
h/t Instapundit
Everyone who has tried them tells me threesomes are difficult. And anyone can imagine that threesomes with the government are the most difficult of all. Suddenly it’s no longer a matter of whose elbow is in whose eye, but a matter of whose legal rights are getting stripped, which way the courts lean, and who is likely to lose his parental privileges and, likely, his liberty or at the very least his wealth.

Which is why I find it absurdly rich of CNN (All the news fit to fake) to wonder why American couples are having less sex than they were 20 years ago.

The article disingenuously roots around for an answer (so to put it, to coin a phrase) and comes up with several. It’s not that they’re wrong ‐ precisely ‐ it’s more that they determinedly ignore what is at the back of those obvious causes of the ‐ ah ‐ dry spell enveloping Americans.

...As for the why of psychological conditions, let me see: courts incredibly biased in favor of women in both custody and divorce proceedings have made a mockery of the "equal rights" of a couple. At the same time everything from entertainment to the news to political campaigns (I’m looking at you Hillary) have managed to turn American women into the unhappiest, most privileged and dissatisfied minority in the world.

American women who are favored in everything from hiring to promotion to marriage to--well, everything ‐ due to subtle and blunt governmental pressure, are daily bombarded with the idea they’re downtrodden, mistreated and live in a patriarchy. And no matter how hard those of us who grew up abroad roll our eyes, some number of them will believe it.
Obviously, CNN has no idea why this type of disparate treatment and gaslighting should interfere in the intimate relationships between human beings.

The rest of us have a brain.

#1  This is an ongoing trend in the western world. It is men who are turning away. Men will be men and the natural way of things have changed. Too much to say here but it is a very real trend. The most common response of men I have found is that "women are crazy". The more you do for them the more unhappy they become. So men adapt. They play video games. They work many hours. In those worlds, sanity can be maintained. Then I just realized that if you don't have that luxury the gang family is a real choice for many men in the urban environment. Where you learn a new language of ebonics. Where you learn other basic survival skills. Making it very difficult to break free of the only life you know. Society is destroying family, culture, religion, the very basic building blocks of a stable society.

Posted by: Classer || 07/20/2017 0:45 Comments || Top||

#2  If they would let the bees keep more of their honey instead of feeding them sugar water or corn syrup water over the winter, the bees wouldn't be nearly as weakened and succeptible to various stressors. And if they didn't truck the bees quite so far, they would be less stressed.

For most crops, the native American bees are perfectly capable of handling pollination -- and all the farmers need do is provide suitable nesting sites upwind from the fields or orchards so they'll be out of range of sprayed pesticides. Orchard mason bee houses are easily and cheaply made, or can be ordered from a variety of sources. They do not, however, produce either honey or wax, and they are competition for the professional beekeepers with their trucks full of hives.

Two murder accused shot dead by complainant in Gujar Khan court
[DAWN] Two suspects in a robbery and murder case were bumped off by the complainant in the case while they were on court premises in Rawalpindi's Gujar Khan Tehsil on Wednesday.

The person who reportedly opened fire on the victims is reported to have turned himself in right after the incident. The pistol used in the incident was recovered from his person.

The victims, Mohammad Usman and Adnan Altaf, had been brought to the court for a hearing of a two-year-old case of dual murder and robbery against them. The victims in that case were brothers of the man who opened fire on Wednesday, the Gujar Khan SHO informed DawnNews.

A first information report (FIR) against the accused has been registered, he said.

Meanwhile relatives of the slain individuals protested with their bodies and blocked GT road. They said that the security at the court was not adequate which resulted in the killings. They also demanded the arrest of 'other culprits' in the case.

The protesters however dispersed after successful negotiations with the police. The superintendent of Saddar police had suspended all personnel deployed at the court and assured protesters that all found involved will be tossed in the clink

Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia banned 'to protect unity'
[Al Jazeera] Indonesia has banned the Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
group under a controversial presidential decree that gives officials the authority to disband organizations deemed to threaten national unity.

The legal status of Hizbut Tahrir, which campaigns for the country to adopt Islamic law and become a caliphate, was revoked on Wednesday to protect Indonesia's unity, according to Freddy Hari, the director-general of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

The group condemned the ban and said it "will not remain silent", vowing to challenge the decision in court.

The government's move comes a week after President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed a presidential decree that gives the government almost unfettered power to ban groups that go against "national unity and the existence of the Indonesian nation".

Legal expert Refly Harun said it was the first time in the reform era that the government had disbanded an organization without due process of law.

"The presidential decree is a blank cheque for the government to disband any group without due process of law," he told the AFP news agency.

The incident appears to be an act of assassination'>assassination, police sources added.

The bodies and injured were shifted to Sandeman Civil Hospital in Quetta.

Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) personnel reached the site and started an investigation into the incident.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the incident and termed it "against the social and tribal norms of Balochistan".

Thousands of mink dead after activists release 38,000 from Minnesota fur farm
[WASHINGTONTIMES] A Minnesota sheriff is blaming animal rights activists for releasing 38,000 mink from an Eden Valley fur farm this week, causing thousands of the domesticated animals to die in the wild.

"If they actually cared about animals they wouldn’t release thousands of mink to die out in the heat," Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson said Tuesday, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.

"They are not interested in animal rights, they are interested in chaos," he said.

Dan Lang, owner of Lang Fur Farms, estimated that more than half of his animals are dead, he told the St. Cloud Times. He and a group of neighbors have spent hours rounding up the dead mink, and the live ones, he said, are now fighting among each other because they’ve been thrust into different groupings.

"We just threw mink in pens to try to get as many back as we could. And now they are killing each other," he told the St. Cloud Times. "And they’re still dying. They are still dying from heat stress."

Missing Swiss couple found frozen in Alps after 75 years
[CNN] A Swiss couple who disappeared from their farm in the Alps during World War II have finally been found, 75 years later, mummified in a glacier.

Marcelin, 40, and Francine, 37, Dumoulin went missing on August 15, 1942, after leaving to milk their cows in a meadow near their home. They never returned to their family, including their six children.

A worker found the frozen bodies of a man and a woman last week during routine maintenance. The corpses were preserved in the receding Tsanfleuron glacier, near a slew of trendy ski resorts at 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) above sea level.

"From afar, it looked like small rocks, but there were too many in the same place," noted nearby Glacier 3000 resort director Bernhard Tschannen in an interview with Radio Television Swisse.

When he got closer, he noticed a collection of frozen accessories -- backpacks, watches, mess kits, a glass bottle and boots -- all of which dated back several decades.

Decked in World War II-era clothing, the duo was frozen close together. Their bodies have since been airlifted from the Alps.

The couple's youngest daughter, 79-year-old Marceline Udry-Dumoulin, told Swiss paper Le Matin their children had never stopped looking for them.

"We spent our whole lives looking for them, without stopping. We thought that we could give them the funeral they deserved one day," she said.

Another daughter, Monique Gautschy-Dumoulin, told Radio Television Swisse (RTS) her parents were walking to the valley the morning of their disappearance. It was a nice day, she says. Her father was singing.

More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

Iraqi forces capture Qayyara

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi forces on Wednesday took over a village in Mosul which was re-invaded by Islamic State militants just before the government declared victory over the group in the city.

Shafaq News website quoted a security source regained control over Imam Gharbi, a village in Qayyara, on the borders with Salahuddin province. Militants stormed the village two weeks ago and killed a number of pro-government paramilitary troopers and two journalists. Iraqi joint troops invaded the village last Friday.

Also in Mosul, Iraqi police arrested four women members of the Islamic State hiding in the middle of refugees in the eastern side of the city.

BasNews quoted Cap. Ahmed al-Obaidi saying that the four women served with the group’s vigilantism squads. They were arrested based on an intelligence tip at a house in al-Masaref neighborhood, he added.

Since it took over a third of Iraq and Syria in 2014 to establish a self-styled “caliphate”, Islamic State drafted male and female vigilantes to observe the implementation of its extreme religious code of conduct. Harsh punishments, sometimes mounting to death, were imposed on violators.

Iraqi government forces took over eastern Mosul late January and concluded its campaign to retake the whole city earlier this month by taking over the western side.

Iraqi security authorities occasionally said they arrested IS-linked individuals hiding among refugees.

Cummings: Voter fraud commission will 'suppress the vote'
[THEHILL] Rep. Elijah Cummings
...Representative-for-life from Maryland, representing half of Baltimore City, which makes his district ultra-safe, and most of Howard County, which is out-populated by the city. Cummings' politix are so liberal they're tedious...
(D-Md.) slammed President Trump's voter fraud panel on Wednesday, arguing that the real motive behind the presidential commission was to "suppress the vote."

In a series of tweets, Cummings went after the commission for not investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and accused the panel's vice chairman, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, of not respecting voters' personal information.

"How can you investigate 'election integrity' w/o investigating voter suppression & Russian interference in the 2016 election?" Cummings tweeted.

Egyptian court sentences 4 to life in prison for judge assassination attempt
[AlAhram] A Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Wednesday four individuals to life in prison for attempting to assassinate a judge by detonating improvised bombs (IEDs) near his home two years ago.

The court also sentenced two others in the same case to 15 years in prison.

A life in prison sentence in Egypt is equivalent to 25 years in jail.

The prison sentences can still be appealed in front of the appeals court.

In May 2015, three improvised bombs were set off near Judge Moatez Khafagi’s home in the southern Cairo district of Helwan.

Khafagi, who had presided over cases and handed down a number of death sentences to Islamists, was unhurt in the kaboom but four others were maimed.

A few weeks after the attack on Khafagi’s home, the interior ministry said it killed two individuals involved in the attack as they were trying to arrest them in a house raid. The men were identified as Ahmed Hassan Abd El-Latif, 32, an engineer at Helwan’s health department, and Saeed Ahmed El-Sayed, 33. The interior ministry said they were members of the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund group, which was also deemed a terrorist organization in 2013.

Sahrawis sentenced to jail over Western Sahara killings
[Al Jazeera] A Morocco court has sentenced 23 civilians to prison terms ranging from two years to life over the killing of 11 members of the Moroccan security forces in contested Western Sahara.

A verdict was delivered at dawn on Wednesday by the Court of Appeals in Sale near Rabat, the official news agency MAP reported.

The defendants and lawyers have boycotted court proceedings since May, announcing they would no longer attend what they said was a "mock trial".

The killings took place in November 2010 as Moroccan forces moved to dismantle a camp in Gdim Izik camp where thousands of displaced Western Saharans, known as Sahrawis, were living.

Morocco and the Algeria-backed Polisario Front independence movement have accused each other of provoking the deadly festivities, which spread to a nearby city where businesses and public buildings were looted and torched.

The defence has 10 days to appeal.

The defendants, who include several advocates of human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
and independence for Western Sahara, were initially tried by a military court in 2013, and sentenced to jail terms ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment.

US says Pakistan failed to act against Taliban, Haqqani Network
[DAWN] The United States has once again accused Pakistain of not taking significant action against the bad boy outfits and accusing them of operating from "Pakistain-based safe havens" to threaten the US and Afghan forces in Afghanistan.

The US State Department, in its annual "Country Reports on Terrorism 2016" released on Wednesday, said Islamabad has failed to take significant action to constrain the ability of the Afghan Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and Haqqani Network to operate from "Pakistain-based safe havens".

It mentioned the Afghan Taliban, the Haqqani Network, Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LT), and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JM) as "groups located in Pakistain, but focused on conducting attacks outside the country".

The report accused that the government did not take any significant action against Jaish-e-Muhammad (JM) or Lashkar-e-Taiba (LT), "other than implementing an ongoing ban against media coverage of their activities".

"LT and JM continued to hold rallies, raise money, recruit, and train in Pakistain," it maintained.

"The government has not joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, although it designated ISIS as a terrorist organization in 2015. Police and security forces detained and killed a substantial number of ISIS-affiliated terrorists," the report said.

Army destroys Indian posts in retaliation to cross-border shelling, killing 5: ISPR
[DAWN] A teenage boy and a man were killed and at least 13 others were maimed as Indian troops continued to pound civilian populations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) with mortar shells on Wednesday, local officials said.

A blurb from the Inter-Services Public Relations on Wednesday evening stated that a soldier had also been martyred in the assault, while two were critically injured.

"Pakistain Army aggressively responded on Indian posts," read the release. "Response destroyed Indian posts firing on Pak posts/civilians. Five Indian soldiers killed, many injured. Indian guns silent due to effective engagement."

"Unprovoked cease fire violations shall always be responded strongly, aggressive and effectively by Pakistain Army," the director general of the army's media wing was quoted as saying.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rashid Naeem Khan, Wednesday had been the worst day for the Nakyal sector of Kotli district in terms of casualties.

‘Father of Taliban’ Sami-ul-Haq offers conditional support to Afghan peace process

...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
has offered a conditional support for the grinding of the peace processor in Afghanistan.

According to a statement released by Maula Sami’s office, the leader of the party has said he is prepared to support the Afghan grinding of the peace processor but the foreign forces must leave the country first.

He has reportedly made the remarks during a meeting with the Afghan ambassador to Pakistain.

The statement further added that the Afghan ambassador met with Maulana Sami to play his part in encouraging the Afghan Taliban
...Arabic for students...
to peace talks, considering his influential role.

In the meantime, Maulana Sami has called on the government of Pakistain to reconsider its policies in Afghanistan, claiming that India is taking advantage from the ongoing situation in the region.

Maulana Sami is the founder of Haqqani Madrasa in Pakistain from where several key Taliban leaders have graduated and it is believed that he is also having a key influence on the Afghan bully boys, considering the close relations he had with the Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

The Afghan officials are saying that Pak could play a key role in the reconciliation process and ending the violence in Afghanistan, insisting that the leadership councils of both the Taliban and the notorious Haqqani terrorist network are based inside the Pak soil where they have freedom of action and safe havens.

province of Afghanistan, inflicting casualties to both the Afghan forces and the Taliban bully boys.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place late on Tuesday night after several Taliban faceless myrmidons launched a coordinated attack on the security forces check posts in Garamser district.

The officials further added that two big shots of the Taliban group are also among those killed.

The provincial government media office in a statement confirmed the festivities and said the dead bodies of the Taliban faceless myrmidons are still left in the battleground.

The statement further added that two public order police forces personnel bit the dust and three others sustained injuries during the attack.

The control of the check posts are still in the hands of the national defense and security forces, the provincial government added.

The anti-government armed holy warrior groups including the Taliban faceless myrmidons have not commented regarding the report so far.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban faceless myrmidons are actively operating in its various districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

This comes as the Afghan cops managed to take control of the restive Nawa district during a large operation launched after almost nine months when the control of the district was seized by the Taliban group.

Wasserman Schultz to allow laptop scan after months of stonewalling in IT probe
[FOXNEWS] The former head of the Democratic Party who lost her post in the fallout from a massive email breach is expected to start cooperating with federal Sherlocks in a separate cybersecurity case, after months of apparent stonewalling.
Finally got it scrubbed, huh?
Fox News has learned that Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
...Congresswoman from Florida, the abrasive chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. She has been a politician since 1992, and prior to that was in training as a political science major. Her primary accomplishment seems to be that she's Jewish...
plans to allow federal Sherlocks to scan a laptop belonging to her as part of a complex probe into allegations of computer theft, over-billing and possible email hacking.

U.S. Capitol Police have had the laptop for months and until now had been unable to get access. It's unclear why the Florida politician and ousted Democratic National Committee chairwoman had been battling law enforcement over the computer; however, her counsel began negotiating this week with Capitol Police in connection with the probe.

At least five IT contractors who worked for dozens of House Democrats including Wasserman Schultz purportedly took hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of computer equipment and potentially hacked into the politicians’ email accounts.

Wisconsin letter carrier to testify Wednesday on political campaigning by postal workers
[JSONLINE] Timm Kopp is a letter carrier from Marshfield and a whistle-blower who will take center stage Wednesday in Washington, D.C., at a hearing on political campaigning by postal workers.

Kopp's complained that certain postal workers were taking leave without pay to work for union political campaigns and that the absences caused operational problems. That prompted an investigation by the U.S Office of Special Counsel.

The counsel concluded that the U.S. Postal Service was in violation of the Hatch Act, which restricts political activity of federal employees while on the job. The investigation found that the Postal Service did not take political sides but sought to maintain good relations with the union.

"I didn't expect it to get to this point," Kopp told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "All I wanted was an explanation on a few things. This needs to be fixed and needs to be taken care of so the Post Office does not look biased."

Kopp will testify to the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee chaired by Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin.

The counsel's investigation found the Postal Service and National Association of Letter Carriers had a long-standing practice of letting workers take "union official" leave without pay.

The union provided to a USPS labor relations official lists of letter carriers to participate in the AFL-CIO's Labor 2016 program. That program sought to "elect Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
and pro-worker candidates across the country."

The lists were sent to USPS middle managers, who interpreted them as directives, the investigation found. Despite objections by some local postal supervisors, the mid-level managers instructed those on the lists be allowed to take a leave.

Ninety-seven carriers participated in the program, mainly in six states, Wisconsin, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Letter carriers were reimbursed for the leave by the union's political action committee.

Kopp, a union member, said he was concerned that his office in Marshfield would be short-staffed when a fellow employee announced he was going to take a leave for five weeks to do union activity. Kopp said a supervisor told him that he was going to deny the request because of staffing issues. Later, Kopp said the supervisor told him that "people higher up the chain" gave instructions to let the employee take a leave.

Kopp said he made calls to union officials, expressing his concerns.

"I was told that this was how it's always been done and we are trying to get people in office who will help the Postal Service get favorable legislation passed," Kopp said in written testimony.

Ultra-Rich Gay Activist On Targeting Christians: It's Time To ‘Punish The Wicked'
[TheFederalist] In a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, tech millionaire turned LGBTQ activist Tim Gill said he’s aiming to punish Christians who don’t want to participate in same-sex weddings.

For more than two decades, the software programmer has poured an estimated $422 million into various gay rights causes. After the Supreme Court ruled gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 2015, Gill turned his attention and resources to targeting Christians.

The election of Donald Trump, who claims to support gay rights but stocked his administration with anti-LGBTQ extremists, has only emboldened those looking to erase the gains of the past decade. Gill refuses to go on the defense. ’We’re going into the hardest states in the country,’ he says. ’We’re going to punish the wicked.’
Might want to be a little careful with that, Bub.
Allow me to add some context. After the Obergefell ruling in 2015, which forced all 50 states to perform same-sex marriages, several state legislatures passed protections to ensure that those who object to participating in a same-sex wedding for religious reasons have recourse when hauled into courts or extralegal commissions for this belief. It’s these state laws that Gill and his various nonprofit entities have decided to go after -- and persecute Christians along the way.

Here’s how Rolling Stone -- a magazine with a history of throwing journalistic ethics and pesky things like truth and accuracy out the window to advance a narrative that fits their agenda -- describes religious freedom restoration acts (RFRA): "Under the guise of right-to-worship protections, these bills offer legal cover for individuals and businesses to deny service or otherwise discriminate against LGBTQ people," Rolling Stone’s Andy Kroll wrote.

Except that’s not at all what religious freedom restoration acts are. For one thing, religious Americans still serve gay customers in myriad capacities, just as they do every other customer. Their objections are to being forced to use their artistic talents to proclaim particular speech they find fundamentally false or to be required to participate in a religious ceremony that conflicts with their consciences. As Sean Davis has explained, these laws simply ask that judges use a simple balancing test when ruling on cases involving a person’s religious freedom.
...
Last year, the Gill Foundation set up a group to wrangle corporate support in going after religious freedom proponents in Georgia. Called "Georgia Prospers," the fake grassroots effort organized protests against a religious freedom restoration act that passed the state legislature. The pressure from the corporate-backed endeavor dissuaded Georgia’s governor from signing the bill -- a victory for the wealthy activist.

The group also opposed North Carolina’s bathroom bill, which barred cities from passing laws that would force businesses to allow customers and employees to use restrooms that are not consistent with their biological sex.

Along the way, Christian business owners have been maligned and demonized for not wanting to participate in a same-sex wedding. In Colorado, a cake baker was forced to change his company’s policies and provide training to staff after he objected to baking a cake for a gay couple. A Christian couple was slapped with a $13,000 fine for refusing to host a same-sex wedding on their property. People threatened to burn a pizza shop to the ground after its owners answered that they would happily serve gay customers, they just wouldn’t want to cater a gay wedding should they be asked to do so.
So, if a Lib doesn't agree with conservative traditions it is now "wicked"? Any dissension, of course, is anti-LGBTQXYZ....

Arabia
Arabs urge Qatar to accept 6 principles to combat extremism
[DAWN] Four Arab nations that cut ties with Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
urged the tiny Gulf nation on Tuesday to commit to six principles on combating extremism and terrorism, and to negotiate a plan with specific measures for implementing the principles in a step that could pave the way for early resolution of the crisis.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Bahrain broke diplomatic relations with Qatar in early June, alleging that the state supports terrorist and holy warrior groups ─ a charge that Qatar has rejected. They initially made 13 demands, which were also dismissed by Qatar.

Saudi Arabia's United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
(UN) Ambassador Abdallah al-Mouallimi, in a briefing for a group of UN correspondents, said that the four nations are now committed to the six principles agreed to by their foreign ministers at a meeting in Cairo on July 5. The nations hope that Qatar will support them as well.

The principles include commitments to combat extremism and terrorism, prevent financing and safe havens for such groups, and suspend all acts of provocation and speeches that incite hatred or violence.

Al-Mouallimi said the four-nation quartet thinks it "should be easy for the Qataris to accept" the six principles.

He stressed that implementation and monitoring must be "essential components," and "there will be no compromise when it comes to principles."

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
he said that both sides can talk about details of "the tactics" and "the tools" to implement the principles "and that's where we can have discussion and compromise."

[Newsweek] Tyrannosaurus rex could not run, scientists now believe, in direct contrast to previous research. Instead, the dinosaur probably walked along at a fairly slow pace, eating slow-moving sauropods rather than chasing after fast-moving prey.

Previous research had suggested T-Rex could clock speeds of up to 45 miles per hour and the new estimates paint a far less fearsome image of one of the Cretaceous period's apex predators.

The debate over T-Rex’s running abilities has raged for decades. Following the initial discovery of the species in the 1800s, T-Rex was often depicted as being a fast-moving creature. In the 1980s and 90s, several studies reinforced this image, based on anatomical research that indicated a very fast running speed and a high level of athleticism.

But not all scientists agreed, and more recent research using biomechanical approaches has indicated the predator moved at far slower speeds. Studies published over the last 15 years have favored the idea that T-Rex could not run at all.

In a study published in Peer J Tuesday, a team from the University of Manchester, U.K., demonstrated how a T-rex would move. They used two separate biomechanical approaches to create a computer model simulating how T-Rex would run, if it could. Because their model combined different aspects of bodily analysis, including the stress placed on the skeleton and how its body would move anatomically, the team believe the picture produced is a more accurate depiction of T-Rex’s gait.

Their findings show that not only was the species unable to run, but it could not even walk very fast. If it were to run, it would have buckled under its own weight and broken its legs, they found. They believe T-Rex’s maximum speed peaked at around 7.7 meters per second, or just over 17 miles per hour (mph). To put that in perspective, Usain Bolt, during the 100-meter sprint, has clocked speeds of over 27 mph.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Los Angeles' homeless crisis goes from bad to worse
[BBC] Homelessness in Los Angeles County soared by 23% in the past year and it shows. The problem has become tangible and inescapable, with makeshift tent encampments cropping up across the sprawling metropolis.

Tourists are shocked to find themselves stepping over people draped in filthy blankets and begging on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Shop owners routinely swill the pavements to wash away urine and the accompanying stench.

"For the 31 years that I've been involved with homelessness... it has gotten worse far worse than I've ever seen before," says Ted Hayes, a long-time activist.

Hayes says gentrification of the downtown area has begun to scatter a previously concentrated homeless population across the city.

The yearly homeless count in Los Angeles County rose to 58,000 in 2017, up from 46,874 in 2016.

Neighbouring areas, such as Orange County, are also experiencing the same upwards trend.

Young people - aged 18-24 - are the fastest growing group of homeless people, up 64%. And children without a home increased 41%.

"Something is shifting right now, we're all noticing it," Kerry Morrison, executive director of the Hollywood Property Owners Alliance says. "We could viscerally feel that something was changing maybe about two years ago."

Morrison believes the problem has worsened because of combination of factors, with rising housing costs in the city at the top of that list.

"The cost of housing is far outpacing the increase in incomes."

Another potential factor is California's drive to reduce the prison population. The state has committed to new rules that mean nearly 9,500 people will be released early. Morrison believes that in some cases, they also end up on the streets.

There's also what she describes as the "attraction" of the Golden State to Americans who find themselves in dire economic circumstances.

"California seems to have this allure," she says. "'Go west and stake your claim. Make your future here.'"

#5  "The cost of housing is far outpacing the increase in incomes."

This is always a favorite response of politicians, do gooders and developers. But it's a load of crap. If these people were willing to work and manage their money for some purpose other than booze, cigarettes and drugs they could find housing somewhere. Maybe not in Los Angeles, but somewhere. Go ahead and build a high rise apartment building and subsidize the rent for them at taxpayers' expense. Watch them tear it apart and burn it down.

But I think a better approach is to let them pitch their tents out in the desert surrounded by concertina wire so civilized people don't have to step over them on the sidewalks and smell their pee. We have vagrancy laws, we just need to enforce them. A taste of that might not smarten 'em up but it'd at least get them out of Los Angeles...and San Diego too.

The man of the house was also the enforcer of decorum. My parents lived in separate boarding houses up until their marriage. Mother's landlords kept an eagle eye on my future father when he came courting. Mother's landlady became her "second mother" -- mother's exact terminology. Can't imagine that happening much if at all nowadays with the current generation.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi and Syria Editions

ISIS troops hiding amongst civilians fearing arrests
I'd say they should be afraid of losing their scrotums if civilians find out who they are
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State members hiding between the displaced families have gone ‘hysterical’ as they feared being arrested by security troops, intelligence sources said.

The militants, according to the sources, were begging the families to hide them until they flee Mosul toward the Syrian city of Raqqa.

However, the families refused to hide these families due to the oppression they suffered. They reported about all those who belonged to the extremists that some of them reported about their sons who cooperated with these groups, the sources told AlSumaria News on Wednesday.

Despite declaring the end of battles in Mosul, some clashes still occur at west of the city, an Iraqi military source was quoted as saying.

ISIS wimmin troops arrive in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (Iraqinews.com) Women members of the Islamic State sentry teams have made a limited return to some areas of the group’s stronghold town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, a local source in Nineveh province said Wednesday.

The source told Alsumaria News that the face-veiled women were deployed around areas where foreign militants and their families reside, adding that those are in charge of searching women entering those areas.

Those women are all foreigners, and were deployed by foreign IS leaders to secure their families from possible assaults by their local power rivals as divisions grow among the group’s ranks.

IS had previously formed female squads in its vigilante teams, observing locals’ commitment to the group’s extreme religious rules.

Islamic State has held Tal Afar since 2014, when it took over a third of Iraq and Syria to establish a self-styled “caliphate”. Iraqi troops declared victory earlier this month over IS in Mosul, after more than eight months of battles to retake the city.

Tal Afar, according to statements by Iraqi government and military officials, will be the next target of military operations. So far, operations by pro-government paramilitary troops have recaptured villages surrounding the town and isolated it from the Syrian borders and the rest of the province.

ISIS executes smuggler for collaboration with Iraqi forces

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has executed one of the main smugglers in Shirqat town, north of Salahuddin, over collaboration with security troops, a local source from the province was quoted as saying.

“IS militants executed on Wednesday one of the main smugglers in the western side of Shirqat, north of Salahuddin, over cooperation with security,” the source told AlSumaria News. “The militants claimed that the execution was based on a decision from the so-called legislative court.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, “the militants depend on group of smugglers to secure their needs from some regions that are near the western side of Shirqat.”

The execution, according to the source, “comes within rivalry among the militants to seize the smuggling trade as part of its profits are allocated to the support of the group.”

The IS terror group has a grip on key areas that link Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk governorates.

The eastern coast of Shirqat, which lies on the west bank of the Tigris river in Salahuddin province, is still under the IS control, after liberating the western coast few months ago.

In September, Iraqi army said its forces recaptured the town, located south of Mosul, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias.

13 die in mined residences in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Thirteen civilians were killed and wounded in two explosions of booby-trapped houses in western Mosul on Wednesday, a security source told Basnews.

Police captain, Amir Watheq, told Basnews that eight civilians were killed and five others were injured after returning to their booby-trapped houses in al-Najar area, west of Mosul, which was liberated two months ago.

“The two houses exploded as their owners entered them,” Watheq added, noting that the Islamic State (IS) had booby-trapped many houses in districts of western Mosul during clashes with security forces.

Security forces took the injured civilians to hospitals and prevented citizens from returning to areas that may have booby-trapped houses.

Mass grave found in Mosul

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) International observers have introduced Human Rights Watch to a site in western Mosul where Iraqi army members allegedly executed civilians, the U.S.-based organization said Wednesday as the Iraqi government grapples with accusations of human rights violations in its war against the Islamic State.

“International observers, whose evidence has proven reliable in the past, told Human Rights Watch that on July 17, 2017, at about 3:30 p.m., a shopkeeper in a neighborhood directly west of the Old City that was retaken in April from ISIS took them into an empty building and showed them a row of 17 male corpses, barefoot but in civilian dress, surrounded by pools of blood,” said a report by the organization. “They said many appeared to have been blindfolded and with their hands tied behind their back”.

According to HRW, observers quoted the shopkeeper saying he had seen the Iraqi Security Forces’ 16th Division, identifiable by their badges and vehicles, in the neighborhood four nights earlier, and that night had heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of the empty building.

“The international observers also saw soldiers from the elite Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) in the area. They contacted Human Rights Watch by phone from the site and later shared five photos they took of the bodies,” the report read.

“As Prime Minister Abadi enjoys victory in Mosul, he is ignoring the flood of evidence of his soldiers committing vicious war crimes in the very city he’s promised to liberate,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “Abadi’s victory will collapse unless he takes concrete steps to end the grotesque abuses by his own security forces.”

Iraq declared victory over the Islamic State in Mosul earlier this month, ending a three-year occupation by the militant group. But as the military campaign against IS continued from October 2016 to July 11th, human rights groups have regularly urged Baghdad to investigate human rights violations by the Iraqi forces and allied paramilitaries against civilians from opposing religious sects and others suspected of having links with IS.

PM Abadi has consistently defended his troops and supporting militias against wrongdoing claims, even urging rights groups to heed integrity in their reporting.

5 refugees found dead of thirst in Hasakah

Hasakah (Syria News) Five displaced persons died of thirst, yesterday, after fleeing from the Islamic State-held areas to the southern countryside of Hasakah, local sources told Qasioun News on Wednesday.

The sources said that three women and two children died of thirst when the drinking water ran out of them, after fleeing the Islamic State-held areas to the southern countryside of Hasakah.

Thousands of civilians flee from the areas held by the radical Islamic State group, due to the ongoing air strikes carried out by Russian and US warplanes, since the beginning of Raqqa offensive.

It is noteworthy that the Islamic State militants are preventing civilians from leaving their territory and imposing sanctions, which could lead to the execution of the “smugglers” who move civilians out of the IS-held areas to the areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, north of Raqqa and south of Hasakah.

Honey Badgers replace ISIS as threat in Anbar

“It is one of the most dangerous beasts of prey, even a lion would be afraid to counter it due to its extremely sharp claws,” as the officer put it.

Khamis al-Mohammadi, a tribal chief at Mahamda region, told the website that honey badgers appeared early 2006 when U.S. forces stationed at the Habbaniya base and Hadana airport, east of the city of Ramadi. “We never knew it existed until U.S. forces entered,” he said.

“That animal was entirely eliminated in 2010, and we never saw it again until this year, especially at farmlands that were occupied by Islamic State terrorists and which remained mysterious until they were recaptured.”

According to Mohammadi, honey badgers, which he said have spread panic among locals, only move during the night, and sneak into farmlands and unfenced residences.

Adel Abdullah al-Azzami, a resident of one of the affected areas, believes honey badgers are “much more dangerous that a wolf”. “It digs very deep holes in the ground…..it mates rapidly and there are several holes near the Euphrates river in Saqlawiya that have been searched”.

Azzami added that the searches reached two young badgers that were killed Tuesday morning. He urged to form civilian groups to watch over residential areas at night, and to light fire near poultry and cattle barns to repel the animal.

BasNews says that though badgers had been killed in large numbers in Ramadi, they remain a threat that obliges residents to carry weapons when going out during the night. It pointed out a belief that the reason badgers began to target humans is the diminishing numbers of preys on which they fed, especially mammals.

2 Iraqi soldiers die in encounter with ISIS at Rutba

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and five others were wounded in an attack by the Islamic State on their position west of Rutba district, Anbar Province, Anadolu Agency reported on Wednesday.

Army Colonel Walid al-Dulaimi told Anadolu that the IS launched an attack with medium and heavy weapons on an Iraqi army position west of Rutba district.

“Violent clashes took place between the troops and IS elements, leaving two soldiers dead and five others injured,” al-Dulaimi added, noting that troops managed to kill five IS elements.

Earlier today, a security source told Alsumaria news that Several Islamic State fighters were killed and injured as an army force repulsed an attack by the militants on its position west of Rutba district.

Iraqi security forces face almost daily attacks on their positions by IS elements.

Despite being controlled by security troops, Rutba faces IS attacks every now and then that are being encountered by security.

Peters Blasts Sentence for ISIS Supporter
[INSIDER.FOXNEWS] Fox News strategic analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (Ret.) sounded off this morning on a Minnesota federal judge's decision to order an ISIS supporter to undergo "terrorist rehabilitation."

Abdullahi Yusuf, a 21-year-old from Minnesota's Somali community, was sentenced last November by federal judge Michael Davis after he was jugged

for plotting to join the terrorist organization.

Yusuf then allegedly violated the terms of his 20-year supervised release by watching a documentary on ISIS fighters while at a halfway house.

Peters said this is a dangerous experiment for U.S. federal courts when dealing with suspected terrorists.

"Young Americans or residents need to know that if you try to join a terrorist organization, if you try to go to Iraq or Syria or Libya or anywhere else, you're gonna go to jail for a very, very long time. Punishment is underrated in our society. We want to treat everybody nice, we want to rehab them," he said, likening it to releasing a rabid dog in a petting zoo.

"You don't do it. This is serious. Rehab doesn't work for terrorists!"
Is Saudi Arabia still trying to rehab theirs?

Al Gore Calls for United States to Adopt Single-Payer Health Care System
[FREEBEACON] Former Vice President Al Gore
Former Vice President, Nobel Prize winner, and crazed sex poodle Al Gore
told a crowd at Borough of Manhattan Community College on Tuesday night that he would like to see a single-payer health care system implemented in the United States.

Gore was speaking at an event to promote his new climate change documentary, but went off-topic to discuss health insurance companies and how they have failed to offer cost-effective coverage to Americans, according to HuffPost.

"The private sector has not shown any ability to provide good, affordable health care for all," Gore said. "I believe we ought to have single-payer health care."

Gore's statement makes him one of the first prominent Democrats to publicly support the so-called "Medicare-for-all" plan that Sen. Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
(I., Vt.) has been publicly advocating. Gore's call for a single-payer plan came after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) was unable to pass the Republican health care bill to replace Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
this week.

McConnell could not rally enough Republican senators to pass the bill. With Senate Republicans lacking the votes to repeal Obamacare without a replacement, President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
suggested on Twitter that they should just let Obamacare fail on its own terms.

Syrian Army’s latest East Ghouta offensive reaches deadly undesired outcome
[ALMASDARNEWS] Three soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed-in-action today after engaging Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
in close quarters trench warfare around the town of Rayhan in the eastern farmland of Damascus, better known as the East Ghouta.

8 images released by the Saudi-backed krazed killer group on Wednesday showed Jaish al-Islam murderous Moslems standing over the dear departed SAA soldiers after government forces launched a largely failed localized offensive on the contested town:

In an online bulletin, Jaish al-Islam also claimed to have damaged a SAA tank on this frontier although no photographic evidence was provided to back up the claim.
Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Kinnison began his slow infiltration of the sewer system...
tensions still remain high between Jaish al-Islam ‐ which occupies most of the northern and eastern parts of the East Ghouta ‐ and its rival Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) which is based in the southern and western areas.

On the other hand, the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
’s (FSA) Failaq al-Rahman has thrown everything it has into the defense of Jobar and Ayn Tarma, two large suburbs in east Damascus that have become subject to another SAA offensive which has proven far more succesful in recent weeks.

Turkey claims Daimler, BASF, and other German companies support terror
[DW] Ottoman Turkish authorities named dozens of German firms as supporters of the Gulen movement in a list they sent to Germany's federal police, according to Die Zeit weekly. The list includes industry giants Daimler and BASF.

Ankara has handed Germany what police sources called a "ridiculous" list of 68 companies and individuals in Germany who have ties with Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, enemy of President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, Die Zeit reported on Wednesday.

The list, forwarded to Germany several weeks ago, names the car maker Daimler and chemical company BASF as backers of terrorism, but also includes a Ottoman Turkish fast food restaurant and a late-night food store.

Earlier this month, Erdogan told Die Zeit that his officials sent 4,500 files on alleged Gulen sympathizers to Germany and demanded that the they be extradited to Turkey.
He is the Sultan. All non-sultans must obey his merest whim.
"You need to deliver these gunnies to Turkey," he said. "As long as you don't, Turkey will perceive Germany as a country which is protecting terrorists."

German officials view the list from Ankara as "absurd" and "ridiculous." Germany's Federal Criminal Police (BKA) has requested additional information from their Ottoman Turkish colleagues, but received no reply so far, Die Zeit reports.

Germany has been locked in a long-running diplomatic row with Turkey, with Berlin slamming the purges by Erdogan's administration and accusing the Ottoman Turkish government of using violence to silence its political opponents. Earlier on Wednesday, Germany summoned the Ottoman Turkish ambassador in Berlin to protest the arrest of several human rights

#19  Copied:

Medical professional here. Really sad to hear he has GBM. Here's a quick run-down:
1) Occurs most often in old people, but can happen in younger people. Prognosis is worse in the elderly (>65), McCain is 81. Median survival with treatment is ~12 months in the latest studies (I earlier reported some data from a couple years ago that was lower). More on that below if you find that kind of stuff interesting.
2) We've got no real idea how to treat this well. Old people sometimes get less aggressive treatment, which perhaps contributes to their worse prognosis. Most common option is just to throw things at it: Surgery to remove the cancer, then followed by radiation and/or chemotherapy. In the elderly the radiation/chemo is sometimes not done because the toxicity is high and the added benefit is less. There are new clinical trials being tested, nothing has been promising so far but sometimes if you have a specific mutation in your cancer you can get lucky.
3) Really rough disease, recurrence is extremely common and occurs within a year. Patients have seizures, headaches, nausea. As it progresses you'll get incontinence, increased falls, and eventually delirium.
My heart goes out to his family. :(
Edit: There's been debate about the prognosis, I'm including this here from a comment I made:
Which study are you seeing 17 +/- 5 months in? I'm no GBM specialist by any stretch, but the data I've seen is <12 months median survival with full treatment.
1) Rusthoven et al (2016) did a large retrospective study (n = 16,717) and Overall Survival was 9.0 months with combined therapy. Granted "combined" included patients who only received 2 combinations, but still I haven't seen great numbers for older patients with GBM.
2) Babu et al (2016) got 12 months, up to 14.1 in those with gross total resection. But this was looking at only 120 patients.
3) Franceschi et al (2016) got 11.1 months, though a subtype with MGMT methylation got up to 17.2. But this was even smaller (N <30) and done in italy.
I've seen some good looking stuff with bevacizumab, supposedly Babu got patients median survival of 20 months with bevacizumab + XRT + surgery, but I haven't seen numbers that good anywhere else so I'm not sure if its consistent with the other data. One can speculate that it's higher but I err on the side of conservatism and would want to see better data before making that claim.

Germany says EU aid to Turkey could be halted over arrests
The Ottoman Turkish threat to open the floodgates remains, but then Angela Merkel recently pledged no limits on those who come...

This month, Turkey tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
rights activists including Amnesia Amnesty International's Turkey head Idil Eser and German citizen Peter Steudtner on terrorism charges, which Berlin has labelled "absurd".

"Unfortunately we have constant cause to talk to Turkey about civil and press freedoms," government front man Steffen Seibert told a news conference. "We think it is important to review aid in light of the latest developments."

Seibert was referring to a package of assistance totalling three billion euros that the EU has promised to Turkey to help stem flows of migrants colonists, mostly from conflict zones in the Middle East, into Europe.

The deal has helped to sharply reduce the number of arrivals and has been especially welcomed by Germany, the preferred destination for the migrants colonists, and Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel cut short his holiday to deal with the latest rise in tensions with Turkey, whose ability to rekindle Europe's refugee crisis could harm Merkel's prospects in a national election due in September.

The six rights activists are among tens of thousands of Turks swept up in a crackdown that followed last year's failed coup against Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. Many have accused Erdogan of using the dragnet as an excuse to purge opponents.

"Claims of terrorist links are absurd," the German foreign ministry said in a statement demanding consular access to its citizen and the release of all the activists. "It is appalling to accuse Amnesty and other rights organizations of terrorism."

Bilateral relations have already been tested by, among other issues, Turkey's arrest of Deniz Yucel, a Ottoman Turkish-German dual national who is a correspondent for the German newspaper Die Welt, on similar terrorism and propaganda charges.

Ankara is seeking the extradition of army officers whom it accuses of involvement in the coup attempt. Berlin has declined to return the men, who have sought asylum in Germany

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Bloodbath ensues as massive inter-jihadist violence sweeps Idlib, Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] Full-scale war has broken out between a number of major Idlib-based murderous Moslem factions. Opposition media is indicating that the forces involved are seizing entire townships from each other throughout Idlib and Hama, even going so far as to use heavy weapons (i.e. tanks) to do so.

According to preliminary reports, the main belligerents appear to be the Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) jihadist group, the Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
Islamist coalition and the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA). The latter two groups have united against the former.

Earlier today, HTS attacked an Ahrar al-Sham base in the Armanaz area of northern Idlib with a vehicle borne improvised bomb (VBIED). The blast from the boom-mobile is said to have resulted in the death of three Ahrar al-Sham fighters and two civilians; furthermore, another 15 people were maimed of which at least five were Ahrar al-Sham murderous Moslems.

Bomb attacks aside, the warring factions have also engaged in seizing towns and villages from one another.

Reports say that Ahrar al-Sham took over the town of Qalat al-Madiq in the al-Ghab Plain region after forcing all HTS fighters to withdraw or face certain death. Moreover, Ahrar al-Sham also kicked HTS out of several towns and villages in the Shahshabo Mountain area of northern Hama.

Ahrar al-Sham is currently storming HTS bases at the town of Harem in northern Idlib. The two groups are also exchanging fire in the town of Salqin where both have bases. The engagement has thus far left 16 people dead, most of which are Ahrar al-Sham fighters.

HTS has for its part also delivered some heavy blows to Ahrar al-Sham.

Britain
Man Accused of Islamophobic Hijab Attack Says he was ‘Racially Abused’ by Muslim on Underground
On the 17th I bet that the young women made up the whole thing. Now the question becomes, was she trying to avoid punishment for coming home late or was this a spot of Twitter jihad?
[Breitbart] A man accused of an "Islamophobic" hate crime by a Moslem on Twitter has denied the assault, insisting the story was made up, and that he and his partner were in fact racially abused by the other party.

The story ‐ played out on social media and involving numerous competing claims and counter claims of alleged religious and ethnic aggregative factors ‐ has been latched onto by activists and journalists alike.

A Moslem woman, 18, and her ’Christian’ friend say a man tore off her hijab and spat in her face. After identifying him online, they contacted his employer demanding action, and called him a racist.

The man has since strongly denied
No, no! Certainly not!
the claims, insisting he merely broke up a fight started when his black girlfriend was attacked by the Moslem woman and her friends.

He claims the attack was launched on his girlfriend because they are in an "interracial relationship".

British Transport Police have confirmed to Breitbart London they are investigating both claims, and say they may release CCVT at a later stage.

Some on online have said the saga is a "terrifying" example of how the modern hate crime industry and "kangaroo court" of social media and public opinion can distort justice.

It all began when the Moslem women, Aniso Abdulkadir, Tweeted a photo of the man and his girlfriend on London’s tube, captioned: "This man at Baker Street station forcibly attempted to pull my hijab off and when I instinctively grabbed ahold of my scarf he hit me." The Tweet has now been deleted.

She added on the social media site: "He proceeded to verbally abuse my friends and I, pinning one of them against the wall and spitting in her face... The woman was throwing out threats and was also verbally abusive."

Her photo quickly garnered more than 30,000 re-Tweets, with people praising her for "calling out racism" and urging the public to help "track down" the couple.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
when the man responded, saying he was "accused of completely false allegations" and making counter claims, his account was largely ignored by the media until some online began questioning Ms. Abdulkadir’s story.

Pawel Uczciwek, who has identified himself as the man in the photograph, also wrote: "I defended my partner by trying to completely diffuse a racist attack from three random females... I NEVER hit, or attacked anyone..."

"The police is fully cooperative with me and will be able to obtain CCTV footage showing the three women attempting to attack my partner because we are in an interracial relationship", the 28-year-old architect from London added.

The complainant’s friend, known as "Lux" online, claimed to have been there and wrote on Twitter: "Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
has been normalised and it’s genuinely scary... whatever counter argument even if it’s completely absurd people will agree with it just so they can blame Moslems for everything..."

As people more people began questioning her account, Ms. Abdulkadir also hit back by labeling them racist. "For those continuously calling me a liar: I owe no one an explanation", she wrote, adding: "I put this post out to find our attacker... not for dead ass racists to be all up in my mentions giving their trivial comments".

Rioters clash with police around Jerusalem over Temple Mount metal detectors
[IsraelTimes] Suspect armed with Molotov cocktail placed in durance vile
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in Shuafat; demonstrators pelt cops with rocks at Qalandiya checkpoint

Rioters clashed with police and security forces at several sites around Jerusalem on Wednesday as Paleostinians held a "day of rage" over new security measures at the Temple Mount in the Old City following a recent terror attack.

This was the fourth day in a row of protests as protesters threw rocks and fire bombs at Israeli forces. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
only several hundred demonstrators turned out despite the call for mass protests by the Paleostinian Fatah party.
So much for the vaunted "Day of Rage".
In the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat, rioters threw rocks at police in the area. Police arrested one masked suspect who threw a Molotov cocktail that went kaboom! on the ground. The suspect was found to be in possession of another Molotov cocktail, police said in a statement.

At the Qalandiya checkpoint in East Jerusalem, dozens of protesters clashed with police and threw rocks at officers. Police responded with riot-dispersal measures, the statement said.

In addition, near to the Tomb of Rachel in Bethlehem, dozens of protesters gathered and threw rocks at police who employed riot-dispersal measures. Two rioters were arrested, police said.

There were no reports of injures in the festivities.

Metal detectors were set up in front of entrances to the Temple Mount as part of increased security measures after police said three Arab-Israeli attackers who emerged armed from the compound and rubbed out two coppers just outside on Friday had stashed their weapons on the holy site.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he will hold consultations about the continued use or removal of the metal detectors and Hebrew media reported that an agreement was under discussion with Moslem officials who administer the Temple Mount.

Following the terror attack Israel made the rare move of closing the compound while it searched for more weaponry there, reopening it to Moslems on Sunday and to non-Moslems on Monday.

The Fatah organization, headed by Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, had called for marches in the West Bank toward Israeli checkpoints in protest of the new measures and announced that Friday prayers, when many worshipers go to the Temple Mount, would be conducted in public squares instead.
Ynet adds:
The Jerusalem Islamic Waqf announced Wednesday that all of the mosques in the capital will be closed on Friday in an effort to encourage worshipers to come pray at the gates of the Temple Mount, a move that could is intended to lead to more violent festivities.

Arabia
Houthis destroy schools at behest of Iran
ADEN: Houthi militias are blowing up schools and changing curricula in Yemen to push their pro-Iran agenda, according to a Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report.

Facing difficulty on the battlefield, Houthi militias are choosing to disrupt educational facilities “with the aim of achieving their empowerment, control and governance,” it was reported.

The appointment of the brother of the Houthi coup leader as minister of education in the internationally unrecognized government means curricula are being charged with “sectarian thoughts and ideologies that serve their policies and agenda being supported by Iran,” SPA said.

Pro-Iran material is being planted in schools, especially those at the primary and preparatory educational stages — and at the expense of other material relating to Islamic history, it was reported.

Sources told SPA that Houthi militias have closed 13 civil universities, about 50 specialized programs in other universities and sections of Qur’anic studies at universities in Hodeidah and Sanaa, and introduced new programs to teach the Persian language.

3,000 irregular migrants detained during first half of 2017: Egyptian army
[AlAhram] Egyptian authorities have thwarted attempts at irregular migration from Egypt's borders by some 3,000 people of diffrent nationalities in the first half of 2017, a statement by the Armed Forces said on Wednesday.

Over the past few years, thousands of migrants colonists have attempted to cross the Mediterranean for Europe through Egypt’s northern coast, with thousands detained by Egyptian authorities while attempting the journey.

In late 2016, Cairo introduced a law stiffening penalties against human traffickers.

The move came after a migrant boat sank in September 2016 off the Mediterranean coast, killing hundreds.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has spoken on multiple occasions about Egypt's ongoing efforts to curb irregular migration from its shores to Europe ‐ a key concern for European countries facing a growing migrant crisis.

Iran's president threatens response to new US sanctions
[DAWN] Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that Tehran would "respond appropriately" to new US sanctions but that Iran remained committed to its nuclear deal with world powers.

"The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran will always stick to its international commitments," Rouhani said in a televised cabinet meeting.

But if the US wants "to press forward with new sanctions under any pretext... the great nation of Iran will respond appropriately," he said.

"We will not forgive violations by the Americans and we will stand against them." His comments came a day after the US and Iran traded tit-for-tat sanctions over the Islamic republic's ballistic missile programme.

The State Department slapped sanctions on 18 individuals and entities in Iran, hours after the White House admitted Tehran was adhering to the 2015 agreement.

Iran hit back with its own sanctions against "American people and entities that have acted against the Iranian people and other Moslem peoples of the region." Rouhani on Wednesday accused Washington of "duplicity".

UK College Will Replace Portraits of School's Founders Because They're Bearded White Men
[TOWNHALL] King's College London, a prominent university in the UK, announced it will be replacing some of the portraits of the school’s founders in the main entryway because they are white, which, apparently, is “intimidating” to minority students.

The entryway will instead feature a “wall of diversity” of black and ethnic minority scholars. The changes are being implemented by the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, whose dean of education, Patrick Leman, explained that the reason for the change was because the entrance was full of “busts of 1920s bearded men.” The inclusion of more diverse modern scholars will make the entrance feel less “alienating,” he said.

Raqqa reconquest: Syrian ground forces take dam, locales near Raqqa
Raqqa (Syria News) Syrian army troops managed, on Wednesday, to recapture the town and dam, in addition to several oil wells and a gas field, near Dbissâne, a military source told Tishreen Online.

The source said in a statement that the troops of the Syrian army recaptured town and dam and al-Rmelan, in addition to 15 oil wells and a gas field, east of Dbissâne,

Furthermore, air strikes hit the Islamic State militants, south al-Zamla Village, and Madan City, in the southern countryside of Raqqa, destroying several headquarters and vehicles belonging to the Islamic State group, the source added.

It is noteworthy, Syrian army troops, backed by Iranian militias, recaptured the oil fields of Wahab, al Fahd, Dbissâne, al-Qseer, Abu al Qatat and Abu Qatash, on Saturday, while also retook other oil fields, southwest of Raqqa province on Monday.

Moreover, Islamic State group burned the oil wells and gas lines extended from al-Rasafa area till al-Akrishi village, in the southern countryside of Raqqa, after being recaptured by the Syrian forces.

Syrian warbirds wreck ISIS HQ in Raqqa

Raqqa (Syria News) The Syrian Air Force has intensified its air strikes on the headquarters and gatherings of the Islamic State group in the southern countryside of Raqqa, a military source told SANA on Wednesday.

The source said in a statement that the air strikes hit the Islamic State militants headquarters and gatherings, located south of al-Zamla Village and in the city of Madan, in the southern countryside of Raqqa, destroying several headquarters and vehicles, as well as killing a number of terrorists.

Furthermore, air strike carried out by the Syrian Army Aviation killed several members of the Islamic State, and destroyed their vehicles in the eastern countryside of Homs.

It is noteworthy that the Wrath of Euphrates operation was launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in Raqqa Province, in order to capture the so-called capital of the caliphate in the city.

ISIS troops mined antiquities in Raqqa province

[AlManar] ISIL terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) left mined numerous historical sites in the Syrian city of Resafa, known in Byzantine times as Sergiopolis and located southwest of Raqqa, a representative of the city’s administration said.

“Only two weeks ago Resafa was under Daesh terrorists’ control, the Syrian government forces with the support of the Russian Air Force brought back to the world this ancient city, which is over 1,000 years old… The city’s gates, the citadel, the Basilica of St. Sergius… all these objects are mined,” Abdulah Vitar told reporters, referring to Takfiri group.

The official noted that the city was a center of the pilgrimage of the Raqqa province attended by tens of thousands of visitors before the war.

The danger of shelling the city still exists, since the line of contact of the Syrian army and the militants is still in 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from the city, but the official expressed hope that the demining operations would start soon and the archaeologists would be able to visit the city in winter, Sputnik International reported.

FSA faction within SDF kicked out of Raqqa operation on US orders

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Quwwat al-Nukhba sub-group of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA), which fights within the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been dismissed from any and all front-line duties in the ongoing Raqqa operation.

About one week ago, word came out that the FSA-linked group was to give up its positions within Raqqa city and retreat to the SDF’s rear areas outside the urban center. Not long after this but, contradictory reports then came in suggesting that a compromise was reached whereby the Arab faction could retain its positions within the city ‐ this was supported by some photo evidence.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
according to the latest reports, Quwwat al-Nukhba has officially withdrawn from all of its front-line positions within Raqqa city and handed them over to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

Information on why the Arab militia has been booted out of the operation remains officially unclear. Nonetheless, some sources suggest that the group showed repeated incompetence during Raqqa battle, advancing quickly within the city but then withdrawing from all gains, abandoning them to ISIS, almost as soon as they were taken.

The delegation underscored that the indigenous movement of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination has entered an important phase since the martyrdom of Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016.

Aziz, during the meeting, reiterated that Jammu and Kashmire remains the core dispute between India and Pakistain. "The Kashmire issue's resolution is imperative for peace in South Asia," he said.

Since July last year, over 200 Kashmiris have died, many in extra-judicial killings and fake encounters, the delegation told Aziz.

It recounted that around 8,000 individuals have been affected by pellet guns, with more than 250 youth blinded either fully or partially and another 930 on the verge of losing their eye sight. Further, 697 women have reported molestation by Indian forces. Over 19,000 Kashmiris in all have been injured and around 18,000 incarcerated

Trump orders the CIA to halt all financial, military aid for rebels in Syria
Oh my -- the Decider deciding.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Over six years after the Syrian revolt first began, the US administration has finally decided to indefinitely give up on its long-standing support for supposedly moderate rebel groups in the war-torn country.

According to US officials, Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has decided to end the CIA’s covert program to arm and train forces of Evil opposed to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA). This arming program was put into effect by the B.O. regime in 2013 and looked to topple Bashir al-Assad.

After talks with Russia, the White House will now phase out the secret program, a move which is likely to have grave implications for US-vetted Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) factions based in southern Syria around the al-Tanf border crossing.

Although the CIA declined to comment, US officials told the Washington Post that Trump decided to scrap the CIA program nearly a month ago ahead of a meeting on July 7 with Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
. "This is a momentous decision ... Putin won in Syria," said a current official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a covert program.

"It’s probably a nod to reality," said Ilan Goldenberg, a former B.O. regime official and director of the Middle East Security Program at the Center for a New American Security.

Once this sudden change of policy is fully implemented, al-Masdar News expects the US Army will evacuate its troops from the al-Tanf military base and fly them to Kurdish-held territory in Hasakah, thereby leaving rebel forces in southern Syria to fend for themselves against the SAA.

The plan does not involve the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led fighting force in northern Syria which has had its supply of heavy weapons and armored vehicles increased in recent months.

ISIS militants refuse to surrender in Marawi as Philippine Army unleashes final assault
[ALMASDARNEWS] Besieged ISIS bandidos bully boys are putting up a determined fight for Marawi, the quiet provincial capital of Lanao Island in the southern Philipines, although jihadist belligerents have been contained in a downtown pocket of some 500 buildings stretching across four districts.

According to Lieutenant General Jo-Ar Herrera, six turbans of the ISIS-linked Maute and Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
groups were killed during counter-insurgency efforts on Sunday alone. He added that an estimated 60 Islamic State

fighters were still fighting, down from 500 when the battle initially began two months ago.

"We are gaining more ground. The rebel-held area is getting smaller. We are committed and focused to finish the job as soon as possible," Herrera said.

On the other hand, Amaq Agency claimed 10 Philippine troops were killed on Tuesday alone, thus signifying the remaining jihadist rebels to be ready to fight to the last man.

With the battle soon entering its third month, some 511 firearms have been seized by government troops since the battle began while 1,723 residents have been rescued from ISIS-held residential areas according to a military source.

Keeping the Mississippi Blues Legacy Alive and Relevant
[AmericanBluesScene] Blues and jazz are uniquely American art forms. Folks can discuss the origins of each, but one fact is indisputable: When it comes to blues, the state of Mississippi is exceptionally blessed. Of particular note are what is known as Hill country blues and Delta blues. Along with the history of these genres and just as important, are the lives and work of the authors, performers, and interpreters of this music.

Everyone from Robert Johnson, Willie Brown, Ishmon Bracey, Bo Carter, and Son House, to Little Freddie King, Robert Bilbo Walker, James Cotton, Elmore James, and Charley Patton has contributed to the mythic folklore and seemingly endless catalog of music that constitutes the Delta blues. A list of no less talented performers has contributed their vast abilities to the Hill country blues including probably the best known of these, “Mississippi” Fred McDowell.

Today in Mississippi there are many programs and initiatives to not only keep Mississippi’s rich music heritage alive, but also to bring that legacy to new generations so that they can keep it and pass it to their children. This year Mississippi is celebrating “Mississippi at 200” with unique events and programs throughout the state.

American Blues Scene was fortunate to spend some time with Abe M. Hudson Jr., elected Mississippi State Representative, on June 28th, 2016 in a special election for District 29, Bolivar and Sunflower Counties. He is a native son of the Mississippi Delta, and a graduate of T.L Weston High School in Greenville, Mississippi. After graduation, he attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he received a BSBA in Marketing. He then attained two Master’s degrees, an MBA and a MSBA in Finance, from Mississippi State University. Hudson is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Urban and Regional Planning from Jackson State University.

Hudson owns two businesses, Abe Hudson Consulting Services, and Real Delta Tours and Artistry. Real Delta Tours and Artistry is a company committed to providing authentic Mississippi Delta Tours, creating handmade invitations, and sponsoring creative events. The businesses are located in downtown Cleveland, Mississippi.

Initially, we rattled off just a sampling of celebratory events coming up including Bo Carter’s Headstone Celebration, and the City of Cleveland Bicentennial Celebration, hosted by Cedric Burnside. Then too, there’s the New York City premiere of the Daniel Cross documentary, I Am the Blues, which sees the great Bobby Rush guiding the filmmakers around the Delta and Hill country to meet and film pioneers of Mississippi blues. We asked Representative Hudson what he thought about Mississippi being so blessed with events celebrating the blues.

This year Mr. Wife started a new program at the Cincy Blues Society where people can donate money to provide tickets to veterans, distributed by the DAV and AFTA-Cincinnati. I'm really proud of him. Thus far we have enough donations to provide tickets to 300 veterans and their guests!

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Operation Good Neighbor: Israel reveals its massive humanitarian aid to Syria
[IsraelTimes] Detailing its outreach for the first time, officers say the IDF is building clinics inside its war-torn neighbor and treating sick children in Israel; hundreds of tons of food, medicine and fuel sent to ravaged border towns

The Israeli military on Wednesday unveiled the scope of its humanitarian assistance in Syria that has dramatically mushroomed over the last year to include treating chronically ill children who have no access to hospitals, building clinics in Syria, and supplying hundreds of tons of food, medicines and clothes to war-ravaged villages across the border.

Since Syria disintegrated in a brutal civil war that has left hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced, Israel has struggled with how to deal with the humanitarian disaster taking place just across the border, a dilemma made even more complicated by the fact that Israel and Syria remain officially at war.

Israel initially responded by providing medical treatment to Syrians maimed in the war, treating more than 3,000 people in field hospitals on the border and in public hospitals, mostly in northern Israel since 2013.

But on Wednesday the army revealed that since June 2016 it has quietly been working on Operation Good Neighbor, a massive multi-faceted humanitarian relief operation to keep starvation away from the thousands of Syrians who live along the border and provide basic medical treatment to those who cannot access it in Syria because of the war.

In the year since the operation was launched, over 600 Syrian children, accompanied by their mothers, have come to Israel for treatment. Hundreds of tons of food, medical equipment and clothing have also been sent across the border to Syria, clearly bearing Hebrew labels from Israeli companies.

The IDF is also currently facilitating the construction of two clinics within Syria, which will be run by locals and workers from NGOs. This includes logistical coordination and sending over building materials and medical equipment, according to the army.

These clinics are meant to support 80,000 Syrians living in the area near the Syrian city of Quneitra, just across the border.

Inside Israel, another clinic is also being constructed. This one, being built at an army outpost that currently carries the bland name Outpost 116, will be guarded by the IDF but staffed entirely by NGO officials. It will be operated only during the day and is therefore meant to be used to treat Syrians suffering from less severe injuries.

As part of the operation, the army has also stepped up the amount of humanitarian aid it transfers to Syria, in some cases dramatically.

According to IDF figures, the quantity of food sent to Syria has increased tenfold in the past year, from a few dozen tons between 2013 and 2016 to 360 tons in 2016 to 2017 alone.

The amount of clothes, baby formula, medical supplies, diesel fuel and generators being transferred to Syrians have also significantly increased in that time.

While the officers involved in the operation stressed Wednesday that there is no mass starvation on the border, they said there are food shortages, which drives up the price of bread and other essentials.

Israel, therefore, sends over hundreds of tons of flour, oil, sugar, salt, canned beans and dry goods. It has also sent 12,000 cases of baby formula and 1,800 packages of diapers.

Israel has also seen fit to send over eight cars and six mules, the military said.

According to the IDF, most of this humanitarian aid was donated by NGOs, but some was also provided by the Israeli government directly.

Number of terrorist attacks globally dropped in 2016: US government
[AlAhram] The number of terrorist attacks worldwide and deaths from such attacks dropped in 2016 for the second straight year, driven by decreases in Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria, Pakistain and Yemen, the U.S. State Department said on Wednesday.

The total number of terrorist attacks in 2016 dropped 9 percent compared to 2015, while fatalities caused by the attacks fell 13 percent, the department said in a report on global terrorism.

(IS) was the deadliest terrorist group last year, carrying out 20 percent more attacks in Iraq and causing 69 percent more deaths there compared to 2015.

Data compiled by the University of Maryland for the State Department showed there were a total of 11,072 terrorist attacks worldwide last year, resulting in more than 25,600 deaths. Of those deaths, 6,700 were of perpetrators of the attacks.

Terrorist attacks took place in 104 countries in 2016, but the majority occurred in just five countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Pakistain and the Philippines. Three-quarters of all deaths from terrorist attacks took place in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria and Pakistain.

The report spoke positively of recent efforts by Sudan, which was placed on the list of U.S.-designated state sponsors of terrorism in 1993 because of its support of Paleostinian and Lebanese turban groups.

"Notwithstanding this history, countering terrorism is today a national security priority for Sudan, and Sudan is a cooperative partner of the United States on counterterrorism," the report said.

Other U.S.-listed state sponsors of terrorism are Iran and Syria.

's administration last week postponed for three months a decision on whether to permanently lift the sanctions.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told news hounds in June that no matter what decision is made on the Sudan sanctions, the designation of Sudan as a state sponsor of terrorism will remain in place.

A June filing with the Justice Department showed that Sudan had hired law firm Squire Patton Boggs LLP at a monthly fee of $40,000 to represent Sudan's interests in Washington, including avoiding a "snap back" of U.S. sanctions.
The Times of Israel has more about the annual “Country Reports on Terrorism” just released by the State Department.

Afghan forces seize 1,400 kgs of Ammonium Nitrate from Torkham-Jalalabad highway
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan national defense and security forces have seized around one thousand and four hundred kilograms of Ammonium Nitrate from the main highway between Torkham and Jalalabad city.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the chemicals were placed inside a lorry and the turbans were looking to transport it to an unknown location for the manufacturing of explosives, mainly the Improvised Explosive Devices used in roadside kaboomings.

"Afghan National Police (ANP) seized 1400 kilos of Ammonium Nitrate, a key component used to make Improvised Explosive Devices," the statement by MoI said, adding that the Ammonium Nitrate was placed in a truck transporting goods to Afghanistan.

MoI also added that the police searched the truck and found the Ammonium Nitrate hidden under the goods in Torkham port, eastern Nangarhar

Arabia
Saudi airstrike in Yemen leaves 20 civilians dead
[DAWN] An air raid in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has killed at least 20 people mostly from the same family, the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
(UN) and witnesses said Wednesday, the latest in a series of suspected strikes on civilians by a Saudi-led coalition.

The attack on Tuesday afternoon hit a group of civilians in the Mawza district of the southwestern province of Taez, a statement by the UN refugee agency said.

Residents said the attack was carried out by a warplane from the Saudi-led coalition fighting rebels in support of Yemen's internationally recognised government.

At least seven women and four children were among those killed, they said.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it was "deeply shocked and saddened at reports of the deaths and injuries of a number of internally displaced persons in an aerial attack" on the area.

The statement said the civilians had fled fighting in the nearby Mokha district, on the Red Sea coast.

Coalition-backed forces loyal to Yemen President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi recaptured the port of Mokha in February as part of a major ongoing offensive to drive rebels from Yemen's lengthy coastline.

The UNHCR statement said more than half a million civilians, 27 per cent of Yemen's internally displaced people (IDPs), originate from the governeorate of Taez.
